I haven't done an Annoying Work Post in a while, and today I got my Jule haul of bunad silver, so I'm just wanna show u this and tell u this is a breikjede - a 1.2 meter long chain of hundreds (~500 by my rough count - if I knew better at any point, I've forgotten) of hand-soldered sterling silver rings. It's used to string the front of the vest together on a bunad, and this particular chain for that particular purpose is unique to the regional folk dress tradition in Sogn. Simpler, machine-made cordell chains are more common these days, because this baby runs up to almost 700 USD.

The same chain technique is also used a little southwards, around Voss. There it's worn as a necklace either alone or to hold the dalar, a large and intricate piece of jewelry traditionally given as a bridal gift to signify the transition into married life, and also as an amulet to protect the bride from evil spirits and creatures (who might otherwise, y'know, steal her.)

My old boss told me that when he moved to Sogn in the 70s, you'd still see the older, wealthier farmers with a breikjede wrapped around their (large) wallets, as a very local status symbol.

crying in a coffee shop as i apply to a second shift quality assurance lab technician position at [redacted]. all this CDL nonsense was god testing me, it was always going to be [redacted] there was never any other option. i would be in the lab with my two bestest friends (A and M if any of you remember my [redacted] posting). i would work 10am to 7pm- at work while the neighbors are noisy and i would be off work in time for band/orchestra practice. i knew in 2020 this is how it would go and its all coming together now

I had 👍🏻 upsetting dreams 👍🏻 last night that I don't want to talk about 👍🏻

But I also had this dream, that I've had several times now, where:

There's a new ice cream shop opening up on the opposite side of town, and my mom brother & I All go as a ✨family outing✨ even tho 1) we Don't do that 2) my mom hates ice cream and only ever eats 2 bites before giving the rest of it to me & going another 6+ months without wanting another 2 bites of ice cream

But there's also like some seafood place opening across the street from the ice cream shop, and everyone including my mom and brother keep complaining about trying to enjoy their ice cream while smelling fish, and I'm like, "I dunno, I think it's kinda appetizing," to which my mom and brother both say I'm disgusting, which is the Only realistic part of the dream (and also true, I will never deny being gross)

And I Don't know what to take from this recurring dream besides that I really fucking want shrimp and just cannot afford to spend $10 on a tray of shrimp from the grocery store, so the craving remains . and I know that I want shrimp, as the person inhabiting this body and mind, and don't need my subconscious to inform me of it with recurring ice cream/seafood dreams
