Look at these pretty #selenite crystals . Now y’all know I’m more #kanye than #woowoo but every once in a while something Uber floofy and woo woo catches my attention and I go running to it at full speed ... . These crystals were mos def that little glimmer of my woo side coming out of its proverbial closet ✌️. . Something just pulled me to it - sorta like an inner magic - yup we’re gettin #soyogi up in this bee . Then I hit up the good ole @pinterest and it looks like these #crystals are known for their healing and cleansing properties - who knew?? {well I’m sure someone did but... natttt me} . “I don’t want any of the spiritual $-/! I’m just here to stretch” . Fairly certain that’s an exact quote from me 🙋🏼‍♀️. . This is what I would often say when I walked into yoga class 12 or so years ago . I was wayyyy too cool for school ✌️. . I thought running a lot and lifting were the only ways to get fit and that you had to be hard af to survive anything . Spirituality? Connection? Self reflection? . Nahhh thanks that’s for the weak - I’ll be over here bench pressing and secretly hating my body and feeling like crap but not knowing why 💪. . It wasn’t until I had a teacher marry both the spiritual and self discovery aspect w enough real world shiz that I thought “ohhhhh okay maybe I could have a little woo woo” . #yogiconfessions Here I am full on woo woo now and loving it . I still lift { running is kinda out the window never really liked it just refused to admit it - hello box I don’t fit into can I squeeze in?} and love to get a good sweat on duh . But there is something in me that’s forever changed from that one class where the teacher put movement and transitions and the spiritual aspect together in such a perfect symphony . I’m forever a little extra woo woo w every movement - forever trying to connect more and weave better threads w our bodies in motion. I can’t thank that teacher enough for sharing their gift . I hope one day I can pass that need and desire for something more something connected onto my students . Is there gym equipment that muchos intimidates you? . I used to be super intimidated by this thing - TBH I’m still not sure if the official name for it a landmine or some sassy person thought it felt like being in a landmine every time they use it and it caught on 💁🏼‍♀️. . Either way I gotchu . I know the feeling of being too scared that you’ll fall over or use it wrong or drop it on your foot and squeal .... . I was a runner, tennis, basketball etc player growing up ... I spent like zero time in the weight room - even when I took superfit {twice} in highschool I got most of my grades from the km ran and sit ups/push ups - the weight room wasn’t something I was good at so it intimidated me and I defaulted to my comfort zone - running outside ... . The weight room always intrigued me - someone doing the perfect smooth squat ... but how? I would wonder .. magic? And w weight - forgettabbutit . As I got older I wanted to lift more but I was scurred like you would not believe ... . But since I’ve been through that fear I now have a wise seed or 2 of knowledge to sprinkle on getting over that fear... . Here’s my tip for getting over that #gymtimidation cause #itsreal . First off - I never start my workout w the new thing I want to try. When I first started going to the gym I would run on the treadmill for 30 min and amp up my confidence {cause I knew I could run } and then hit the free weights - do the one exercise I wanted to and then peace out ✌️. . Eventually that exercise would become something I’d be confident w and I’d add on ... . I wrote a whole post on gymtimidation on sweatandyoga.com if you’re thinking you want to branch out of your reg movement routine but don’t know how you’re going to muster the confidence ... . And I may be bias but I totes think you should branch out cause remember - great things never came from comfort zones . What have you been intimidated by - what are you gonna amp yourself up to try next? . Key is to forever keep growing - k peace ima go do more frog pumps - I feel silly doing them at the gym but man do they get a good glute med burn so ima do more and not worry about how I look . #movementninja out ✌️ (at Toronto, Ontario)

Have you done some yoga today? . In his famous “the fuzz” video @gilhedleysomanaut says “every cat in the world gets up in the morning and stretches its body” . I have let my yoga practice fall a bit to the wayside this year while we were in Europe. I was consistent w it on days I had to teach cause I needed to plan my classes but on other days it was mucho sporadic . Now that we are back in our house and I’m back into the swing of things I’m committing to 20 min daily so I can play around a different muscles - different transitions - different connections . It’s not always all in the learning - it’s in the feeling of things in your own body . The play as a vessel to help #theconnection . So there’s my April intention . Play within my yoga space . Squats squats squats squats everybodyyyy 🎤 - do you like my rendition of @lmfaoofficial ‘s song ? No? . I was listening to @mindpumpmedia and they were discussing how you need to get below 90 degrees on your squat - esp when you want to build #datbooty yo ✌️. . I couldn’t agree more . Butttt I don’t have the flexibility/mobility/strength {insert other excuse here } . Actually we all do - we just need a little help and time to get there . That mayyy mean ditching the 200lb squat for a while and playing around w just your body weight or a smaller #medicineball 🤷🏼‍♀️. . Then slowly working back up to that hella big squat you were performing above 90 degrees . Sometimes the weights gotta come off so form doesn’t suffer #sorrynotsorry that’s the #hardtruth . . I know this isn’t exciting or fun or sexy and may feel like you’re regressing but actually it’ll put you miles ahead - just slowly . But ya know what they say #slowandsteadywinstherace .
