Please give me all the knowledge of war of 1812 naval surgeons!!! My 1805 doctor would greatly profit from knowledge from future and the new world
For the specific knowledge of War of 1812 surgeons, you could turn to a respected medical textbook of the time, Medicina Nautica by Thomas Trotter. It's a little dry to read from cover to cover, but you can find interesting takes on nautical medicine. On pp. 111-113 Trotter argues against the 15 shilling fine charged to sailors with venereal disease, which caused men to hide their illness and turn to dangerous quack remedies.
A great open-source article that explores what type of medical treatment was deliberately sought by sailors and expected by them is Treating, Preventing, Feigning, Concealing: Sickness, Agency and the Medical Culture of the British Naval Seaman at the End of the Long Eighteenth Century by Sara Caputo. It even opens with the battle of HMS Shannon vs. USS Chesapeake! Naval sailors had a surprising amount of agency in seeking medical care, despite their very regulated lives, and Caputo argues that "naval doctors had to foster an atmosphere of trust and support rather than punishment—because their care remained an option among many."

there's a distinct before and after to the current MASH sphere online, and I have no condemnations for mashblr but I really do miss when we didn't really have a fanon, it's 2018 and it's like 15 of us and every drawing, fic, or post is a remarkable gift and a thesis in itself- when the space is so small nothing can be "content"

Paul Kupperbergs plan for the peacemaker solo was to literally introduce a new Peacemaker to be a nicer not-Vigilante-Villain one but he also wanted the guy to be nearly driven insane by his evil military technology helmet and also Chris wasnt gonna be killed or anything he was literally just gonna be living in a rainforest somewhere in South America helping local rainforest protectors. He was literally gonna give Chris Smith a happy ending and then put some other guy through hell because he wanted Peacemaker to be a good guy again. Its so fucking funny to me

gross/scary under the cut !
so today my dad had a house showing scheduled w/ a potential buyer and i wanted to come with him to see if there's any cool stuff my grandma had (she did and i brought some of them home ^-^ i now have a cute silver/mirror-like tray, a decorative fruit bowl and a fish pitcher!!) so he was just telling the guy about the house and i was just looking around on my own time we ended up kinda splitting, they left the upstairs as i was done with the ground floor, and went to the basement while i went upstairs and here comes the horrid part so the house has many holes in the roof meaning it's very uh. wet in there. one room (kitchen??) had a small pond forming there . but then to my horror i saw the cobwebs. there were so many of them . that on it's own wouldn't be terrible, of course spiders run wild when there's nobody around ! but they were just so . large and they were hanging from places i really wasn't used to seeing them in. that was only a bit unnerving but then i found the spiders. in total, there were only two alive daddy longlegs on the ground floor. the absurd amount of huge spider corpses were almost everywhere. and completely covered in fluffy white mold. after i noticed that fuzz i got real worried about touching any and all cobwebs because 1) GROSS 2)DANGEROUS MAYBE?
obviously mold grows on everything when the right conditions are met but like. it was really spooky seeing all those spiders like this 😰
now a smart person after witnessing that would go "huh! better leave and not come back any time soon :)" but as we all know i have about 1 braincell to my name and wanted to see what the attic looked like NEWSFLASH IDIOT IT'S ALSO FULL OF HUGE COBWEBS AND DEAD SPIDERS COVERED IN MOLD . also i managed to ram my head right into the roof while i was entering and tbh that's probably for the better because the attic was dark as hell and my phone flashlight was too weak for that darkness. but i did get a glimpse of all the same things i've screamed about before but somehow the one spider was even bigger than the others . must've had a good life there before the mold hit . but that was the moment i decided i was done with it and went downstairs only to find out that the door is fucking locked . that entire trip felt like a goddamn tma episode but thankfully the door's lock just got a bit jammed and my dad came to rescue me after i called him :')
so after being repeatedly spooked by scary mold, hitting my head hard enough to feel my teeth rattle and getting locked in, you'd think "yeah that's enough for kavvie for today :)" but you'd be WRONG because i also wanted to see the basement and [literally nothing new. more dead spiders and cobwebs.]
in conclusion, i would be perfectly fine if the spiders were alive and not consumed by the mold thank you and goodnight

The Surgeon General is the operational head of United States Public Health Service Commission Corps, one of eight uniformed services in the early twenty first century United States, alongside far more well known uniformed services like the Army and Navy. The USPHSCC, along with the appointed Surgeon General at their head, is tasked with seeing to the health and safety of the general public. The service is deployed to disasters, pandemics, and outbreaks. They hold the equivalent of naval officer ranks. The Surgeon General holds the rank of Vice Admiral. The title comes from the idea of being the doctor for a whole organization, rather than being a military doctor with the rank of a general.
The Surgeon General reports to the Assistant Secretary of Health, who runs the Public Health Service (of which the USPHSCC is a part), and who in turn reports to the Secretary of Health and Human Services, a member of the US Executive Cabinet.
One of the duties of the USPHSCC is educating the populace. As such, the Surgeon General serves as the primary spokesperson for health related matters in the US Federal government. The Surgeon General is most known for a legally mandated warning on tobacco products which warns of the many risks involved in smoking. This is a highly visible part of the packaging marked as "Surgeon General's warning."
Other early twenty-first century nations also have Surgeons General, which occupy similar positions in government and military.
A Sturgeon is a type of fish that is known for the fish egg delicacy they produce: caviar. It is spelled very similarly to Surgeon but the words are not related. The joke is based on the lexicographical similarity.

A photo from memories, captured in May 2023.
Everyone has a superhero. For any girl in the world, her superhero is her father.
He is our hero. He is a doctor. Before this ongoing genocide, he worked at Al-Shifa Hospital. He is a wonderful plastic surgeon, loves his work and is committed to it, to help people and relieve their pain.
When We were forced to be displaced to Al-Shifa Hospital at the beginning of the war, he was still committed to his work. He worked nonstop for 40 days, besides caring for his family, especially in these difficult times!
But unfortunately the occupation stormed and burned the hospital after We were forced to evacuate , raising white flags. We could not carry anything, just our souls. We fled to the south on foot. He carried his two children in his arms, and walked long distances for many kilometers during the afternoon among tanks and heavily armed soldiers, and even among decomposing corpses!
Finally, we reached the UNRWA school at Khan Yunis. He started working in Nasser Hospital, which the occupation also stormed and destroyed! Even when we were displaced, he was working.
All that happened did not stop him from performing his lofty job as a doctor. He has now returned to work in MOH hospitals to carry out operations of debridement and grafting of needy injured people, but he is alone, we are far from him.
Tumblr media
He decided to protect us and made a decision to refuge in Egypt to be survived. While he stayed in Rafah before the beginning of the military operation there. Then he was forced to be displaced to Deir Al-Balah.
Every morning he goes to work at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis and returns to his tent in Deir Al- Balah in the evening all week.
Tumblr media
Is this what we and he deserve?
We stay away from our hero and torn our family. While at the same time, he is putting himself in danger while saving innocent lives!
For your information, his profession is considered more dangerous than ever before, due to the occupation’s systematic policy of targeting hospitals and medical staff!
All the day, we are worried about him. May Allah save him. Moreover, there is no safe place.
We hope to reunite again, we want each other, we want our home and our dreams!
We need your help and support to meet our father again, reunite our family and rebuild our lives. Little matters! Your little means a lot to us.
Please, donate or reblog this with others.
Our story is here:
This was not our only tragic story in this genocide, every day was a struggle for survival!
Thanks!
