Hello, books and worms!
I’m testing out a fun new project of creating themed lists of five to a dozen titles each month. They’ll have a cute little collage for each title’s cover, and then a very short blurb for the title, author, age, genre, and a sentence or two of description.
This month’s theme is devoted to Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week, but feel free to send an ask with requests!
Description blurb for each book under the cut v
Life Underwater / Matthew Metzger: Romance; a gray-romantic Muslim transgender man accidentally falls in love with a non-binary marine biologist
Fire Becomes Her / Rosiee Thor: YA Fantasy, Historical; a demiromantic bisexual woman schemes her way to the top of alt-Jazz Age magical politics
Syncopation / Anna Zabo: Romance; two band mates, one tour bus. can a gay song writer make it work with an aromantic rock star Dom?
Devon’s Island / SI Clarke: Sci-Fi; a soldier and her food scientist wife must work together with an aro-ace autistic scientist to plan a mission to Mars
The Bruising of Qilwa / Naseem Jamnia: Fantasy; a middle eastern aro-ace non-binary refugee discovers a terrible new disease amongst accusations of blood magic
The Last 8 / Laura Pohl: YA Sci-Fi, Apocalypse; eight teens survive an alien attack and gather at Area 51, led by an aromantic bisexual Latina who discovers a space ship that could change everything …
Two Dark Moons / Avi Silver: YA Fantasy; an aromantic bisexual female must survive in a jungle of reptilian people to pass her coming of age ritual
It Sounds Like This / Anna Meriano: YA Fiction; fat ace Latina MC leads a brass marching band of newbies with the help of a sweet and shy gray-romantic ace boy who just might be her new crush
Tarnished are the Stars / Rosiee Thor: YA Sci-Fi; a lesbian with an illegal clock-work heart, a tyrant’s aro-ace son, and a skilled assassin form an uneasy alliance to end an epidemic
The Liar’s Guide to the Night Sky / Brianna Shrum: YA Action; a ski-slope accident pits a bisexual girl training to be a firefighter and her cousin’s aromantic pansexual Latino best friend against freezing temperatures
The Rhythm of My Soul / Elin Dyer: YA Mystery; an aro-ace ballerina, a boy determined to dance until it kills him, and a new boy with a dark past need to figure out who is out for revenge–and why
Common Bonds: an anthology of short stories featuring aromantic characters

PLEASE tell me abt ur ocs they seem so interesting
omg thanks!! i already talked about piper so i’m going to describe the others now.
simon is piper’s brother and he’s twelve, skeptical, and extremely fucking lonely. he has no friends and is getting bullied. he does not trust anyone. he is the story’s token normal guy. he does get closer to his sister and makes positive connections with adults (first time ever!). he’s my little guy i want him to grow up happy and healthy. he plays minecraft 24/7 and his reaction to learning that his sister is a potential weapon for a superweapon is asking what its stats are.
thandiwe is piper’s crush and also someone piper Does Not Trust at first, mostly bc thandiwe is hiding a lot (rightfully!! but piper doesn’t know that) and is also just kind of a quiet private person. they are very different people on the surface. anyway thandiwe’s deal is that she used to be a really good (child) soldier but then she had a breakdown, transitioned, and is now a hero trying desperately to forget about what she’s done with her life so far. she trains piper <3 eventually she gets to a place where she can process The Horrors without the expectation that thinking about them means that she has to fight again. also she’s igbo <3
reyes is like if a typical protagonist was a femme latina lesbian and also is now in her forties. she’s not devoted to the military organization (bronze scepter) anymore, but she’s really trying to be because she’s spent almost her entire life serving them. all of her friends are either dead or she doesn’t talk to them a lot anymore, and her family is estranged. she’s at the point in life where she isn’t (and kinda can’t be) the best soldier at the bronze scepter, and she’s having trouble accepting it. yuuki and thandiwe convince her to leave the bronze scepter <3
which brings me to yuuki!!! japanese butch lesbian of my heart and soul. the answer to What If An Angsty Male Lead Who Is Middle Aged Traumatized And Badass Was Actually A Butch Lesbian. her whole thing is that bronze scepter originally thought, a couple decades ago, that she was a potential vessel for ardaris (the superweapon). she made the road trip with reyes and some others (now deceased or indisposed or leading the bronze scepter) but when she tried to get ardaris to possess her it almost killed her. surprise!! she wasn’t a potential vessel. she ended up with a lot of burns, and left the bronze scepter soon after. now she’s a mercenary who fights for anyone but the bronze scepter (except when it’s reyes asking. and then only for a good reason (lie))
#leon gets asks#road trip to ardaris#oc: simon gunther#oc: thandiwe duma#oc: reyes alonso luna#oc: uehara yuuki#orangetasteslikefruit#thanks for asking!! i have a lot to say haha

The entire Margot and her family are annoying. From the mother whose teen actress is darker-skinned and then suddenly they come up with a white latina for adult, ugh. The father and nothing is the same, he's the boring middle-aged man who gets an affair (but this time at least it wasn't with a girl from college or his younger assistant, but still...) and Margot.... Oh, holly can't do no evil wise Margot, who is an outcast in spite of being the most basic bitch I have ever seen, no personality attached to her character except books (and we don't see her enjoying books or art to be that excited in the 9th episode in Seattle, she's bland af), she was fun in episode 1 with the secretly language and the awkward spy thing, but then she just. I cannot stand her but maybe I could if she was a lesbian, but again then she would have emotionally fucked 3 different characters who had something to themselves (like a personality) with how bland she is.
#i miss when the problem was Allison had too many feelings and impulses in Teen wolf and that's why they killed her#margot does nothing she's pushed and pulled by the narrative that somewhat keeps patting her in the head when she is absolutely bland idk#i just hat her and her family

Anyway, if any of you come and visit Brittany or just go to this fest, DM me! I'd be more than happy to be a tour guide and I have a 3P tent for the fest if needs be! Can also teach you some French if you want to talk to vendors or we can just fist bump.
Some of the female owned businesses I bought stuff from : (if you need, I can translate stuff from the artists' websites or help you write a message to the artists in French)
Art Celtique a small business owned by the sweetest mamm-goh! I'm 100% coming back next year to eat pastries with her over a tea, idc. Lots of Breton-themed curios. Pins, patches, handmade soaps, Saints statues (Sant Ivo, Santez Anna, Sant Konan...) [btw Saints in Brittany are more like a remnant of a cult of the deads that was Christianised than something really recognised by the Church], shirts, local leather-crafted bracelets and the traditional white and blue bowls with your name on (that aren't Made in China like most of those you'll find elsewhere, you actually have to order them or be lucky. You can call in advance so you pick up yours after the festival! The shop is essentially her house, so she can let you get them at your discretion)
She's a bit of a punk at heart and was really sweet to talk to. She has a lady cat, Minnig (small name of "Hermine", also the nickname of Anna of Brittany, Duchess of Brittany and later Queen of France) watching over the shop and begging to be pet!! Careful, the doorbell is a bit surprising! Butches : she also sells ties and bowties and axes pendants!
Shirt reads "Breizh Metal"
[No pic available]
Ose small metaphysical shop. I only bought some incense and balm so nothing you won't see elsewhere, however the owner is more of an artist than anything and makes her own candles and decorations. She has decorative potions that are like snowballs but cooler, changing colours and stuff. She resells a lot from local crafters and artist. Her brother is a tattoo artist nearby and designed this year's Motocultor's shirt, so she had pins and stuff with that design and other exclusive stuff. Also sells keychains with colorful wichy cats and beautiful gemstone jewels and gems. Some tarots, of course. She also sell hand gathered and hand made plant balms and tinctures from a friend and second hands books and tarot/oracle decks (her philosophy is that books are to be read by as many people as possible). She's very kind and upbeat and was delightful to talk to. She's obviously a lover of craft arts. She drew me in with her music and incenses.
I don't have the name of this business. Forgive me, it was 2am and I was piss drunk.
Anyway, ma'am is a middle-aged Latina who does the leatherwork herself (lots of macrame) and does the most STUNNING jewels. Lots of them were beautiful but too femme for me, just like the lacey clothes also sold here. I didn't think of taking a pic either. I found a "labrys" earring there. Anyway, she sold her stuff directly on the festival's lawn, and apparently is here every year (again, I'm not sure anymore, I was a few liters of cider ahead of sobriety 💀). Lots of these shits would likely have a lot of you alty and lesbian girlies to succumb to the evil of spending money. It's not even much in proportion of the handiwork that got into the items. That small business is a treasure!
La-Lori is such a talented illustrator and was very patient with my drunken ass, like the following seller.
I fell in love with her (non-sexualised nor beheaded...it's harder to find that one may think) Medusa (who got the owner of the metaphysical shop Ose gush about when she saw my shirt. Three women, three based tastes). My blurry pics don't do her work justice, it's extremely detailed and the colors aren't toothpaste white, they actually blend amazingly on the shirts! Her dark aesthetic is so tasteful and you can tell a lot of thinking and spirituality got into the symbols and the way things are drawn. I'm in love for real!
Texts reads "Medusa" and either "Horned You" or "Horned God" depending on how you read it.
Poulettes-Sisters and their sister site for activism Poulette d'Assaut. The aesthetic here is more pin-up/femme, and I think more libfem, but I really wanted to support these queens! The staff is female only except for the photographer and treasurer.
I couldn't see their other stand, but they proposed to glitter up your faces while discussing feminism and selling mugs and stuff. I think they might have been near the SSV table, which sold anti-drug cups lids and condoms and talked about sexism.
In terms of activism, they do girls only nights in bars (wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't sex-based), take donations to gift menstrual products to women and girls who don't have the money for that and they also take second hand bags to give to modest kids along with school items while talking about feminism to students. Their photographer also shot portraits of female festivalers last year, to show the face of those who are often erased from punk/metal. You can support them on their second page.
Since the pics were a bit awkward to take : the first tops says "Born to kick your ass", "Fucking Fabulous" and "Irreducible". The pin is "Power Rageuse" (rageuse = female hater) and the last shirt says "All women are witches", "Fuck Misogyny" and "Unchain your Poulette power" ("poulette" could be translated to "chick", which is often derogatory -but less and less used- when said by men but usually affectionate and not sexual at all in nature when used by women, often close to each other or addressing a little girl). Illustrator is credited as Cerise-la-Castagne! They also gave me a sticker and their wrapping was super cool.
Motocultor 2024, Friday the 16th, Karaez, Poher (Kernev) and neighbouring cities and landscapes
(Too many passerby/friends in my other pics that could be identified, that's why I'm not posting much of the festival itself)
It was my first Motocultor. A friend kindly abducted me into going there. Honestly, great experience. If the organisation stays as it is, it is safe for women to go alone. There is a libfem association that was patrolling to ensure it. There were a lot of women (including in security and staff), it was quite accessible for people with physical disabilities. Toilets are clean and well thought. Everyone sleeps about everywhere on the festival undisturbed. There are many tasty vegan/vegetarian options in foods (and a good selection of Asian and African foods). You can dress however you want without being harassed (some women were in bras for comfort -yours included- and there were male travestites and they seemed to feel safe). Also, you can wash yourself/brush your teeth, fix your muddy shoes etc about 5min of walk outside of the fest (technically there is water on the fest but it's less crowded outside and actually made for that purpose (it's a sport's spot).
The vibe it gave was very libfem, so don't expect some activist radical lesbians everywhere, of course, or to not see bdsm stuff or performances of feminity. But it was still better than most festivals with a lot of very toxic macho males a lot of people don't feel safe around. They had stuff to protect your drinks and your ears. They had power banks. You have a market so if any of your clothes for some reason tear or whatever you can find some stuff. The light is well thought so there aren't dark isolated corners. The control of items at the entrance is good. You can have a cashless account you can add money to in advance as soon as you have your ticket, so you don't need physical money. You just need a credit card if you want to buy merch, but you can 100% come to the festival without credit cards or money anywhere else than in the bracelet they give you at the entrance. Also, Nazi symbols were explicitly banned in the rules THANKS FUCKING HELL. But according to the girls who were our tents neighbours, the other fest in this city, Les Vieilles Charrues, had some of those guys as well. Be careful for festivals in France in general (especially WOC), the people are becoming properly insane and violent these days. For the head up, as far as I know this is a far left separatist city, so people here are Bretons, not French. We unite in hatred of Paris.
The musics were a bit of everything. It depends of the days. We had Faun and Opeth at the same time, to give an idea. Some groups were rap/metal, other electro/metal, folk/metal, symphonic/metal and uh....well, just listen to Igorrr yourself, I can't explain it but it was fire and rhe female singer was fucking POSSESSED she was amazing and touching and funny as hell. We had punk on the Saturday, a good amount of female bands in comparison to other fests. Not just metalheads in the public, a lot of punks and other alt cultures as well. Booze was great (and unlike the previous fest I've been to where we got harassed by homophobic white supremacists, there was coffee and energy drinks, as it should).
Camping was crowded but had a good mentality. We had about twenty people cheering for us when we were trying to put the tent back in its bag. We asked for a Qeshua expert around and ended up at five people trying to wrap it up like idiots. Then -of course it was a woman 😭✨- Our Lady of Qeshua came out of thin air to our rescue and wrap that shit up on her own in about 30s, like a proper badass. I love you my sister in tent. Also we had the honour of witness a 4am dumpsters joust and the next day to talk with one of the dumpster warriors. So uh...maybe bring earplugs if you intend on actually sleeping. There is also the Makumba here, where it's purposely shitty and memeish old pop songs being played and remixed for people who are still alive and not dead-drunk after 2am. We did shitty dance. It was funny. Except I was tired, in sandals (because honestly fuck combat boots after one to many miles of walk and pogo) and it took about 2min for someone to spill his whole beer on my feet and for another dude crowd surfing in my back and falling from the sky on me (I'm fine, I believe he is?). The morning, if younre early you may miss the queue for a well-deserved watery coffee.
Honestly the ticket is expensive for my budget (now kinda dead because I shamefully admit I fell a bit for the capitalist evil. But I'm wealthier of sturdy leathers that will last a lifetime and supporting a lot of female owned businesses) but it ended up being a wonderful investment! 100% recommand (maybe 1-2 day for a start, because you need a medal if you survive to 4 days).

Should I watch The Owl House just for Willow and Hunter, 'cause you make them look very cute.
😂😂😂😂😂 Oh God, no, absolutely not, don't get me wrong I love the two of them I got the brainworms real bad, but they are like a tiny little thing at the end of the second season and we're only getting three 45 minute episodes to close out the entire series so they're relationship is mainly gonna be expanded upon in fanwork only, the most we will probably get in canon is some small confirmation with a handhold or mutual blush moment, maybe a kiss if we're lucky, like really lucky.
The reasons you SHOULD watch The Owl House for are the fact that the plot, story, writing, worldbuilding, and voice acting, are all very good and well done and its an insanely well put together show that is worth the watch shipping or no. And if you like shipping don't worry the main ship is between the main character, Luz Noceda bisexual afro latina with undiagnosed ADHD and a pencient for weird stuff and her first rival/antagonist, Amity Blight lesbian child abuse survivor and also theres something for the MILF and middle aged enby enjoyers with the pair of Eda Clawthorne and Raine Whsipers. I would write fanfiction about these couples but they're the kind of OTPs where I kind of just rotate them in my mind until I start crying about it. I think my brain probably hyperfixated on Huntlow because Willow's my favorite character and she's so underappreciated in fandom so when she was finally getting some spotlight I got excited and I really like Hunter's character I just don't like how a lot of others in the fandom like Hunter so when Huntlow came about I took my chance to take back a character I like from an ellement of the fandom I didn't vibe with. My love of Huntlow should not be your litmus test for watching this show.
In the end would I recommend you watch this show just for Willow and Hunter? Absolutely not. But I would recommend you watch it because it's a great incredibly well made show with lots of diversity in the show and in the writer's room

LGBT+ books by authors of color
For those of us tired of LGBT+ romance always being featured between white characters, or from the perspective of white characters, here’s a list of LGBT+ novels by authors of color centered on characters of color.
Thank you so much @percyannabcth for your recs! ♡
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz: a beautiful mlm coming of age story between two brown latino boys. Personally, one of my favorite books (young adult).
We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia: first of a series set in fantasy Latin America with a main couple compromised of brown wlw (young adult).
This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone: enemies-to-lovers time travel fantasy novel featuring wlwoc (adult).
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan: I’ll admit, this one wasn’t my cup of tea, but I’m more the exception to the rule. Fantasy with main asian wlw. Heavy rape and abuse tw (young adult).
It’s Not Like It’s a Secret by Misa Sugiura: contemporary novel with a japanese protagonist that falls in love with a latina girl (young adult).
When the Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie Mclemore: not a mlm or wlw story, but one with a latina protagonist and a love interest that’s a Pakistani trans boy (young adult).
More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera: borrowing elements from both sci-fi and contemporary, this is a story about the hardships a Puerto Rican boy from the Bronx has with coming on his own. Suicide and homophobia tw (young adult)
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong: beautiful novel that tackles a lot of themes, including coming to terms with being LGBT+, from the point of view of an Asian man (adult).
Tell Me Again How A Crush Should Feel by Sara Farizan: coming of age contemporary novel about a persian girl that falls in love with one of her friends (young adult).
Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender: contemporary novel in a high-school setting about a black trans boy learning to navigate the dificulties that are put in his path due to his identity. Transphobia tw (young adult).
Hurricane Child by Kacen Callender and Kheryn Callender: a tale of magical realism about a girl whose luck was sealed when she was born on the dreaded day of a hurricane (middle grade).
Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera: Juliet, a Puerto Rican lesbian, moves out of her family’s home and leaves to explore what her identity means both for herself and for those around her (new adult).
Ash by Malinda Lo: a wlw retelling of Cinderella with a girl of color as a protagonist and a very quick, entertaining read (young adult).
A Line in the Dark by Malinda Lo: a contemporary novel where the main character, an asian girl called Jess Wong, used to being on the sidelines, becomes the protagonist of her own story as she falls in love with her best friend (young adult).
Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann: Alice, an asexual black girl, learns to navigate her sexuality and how the perception of others affects her (or not) after a break up with her girlfriend and the start of adult life (adult).
Seven Tears at High Tide by C. B. Lee: Kevin Luong, an asian-american guy, asks the ocean for one summer where he can find love - and a selkie boy hears his pleading and seeks him out, willing to give him exactly that (young adult).
Not Your Sidekick by C. B. Lee: an intern girl with no powers at a superhero school starts getting notes from a mysterious person that goes by “M”. Bisexual main character, and the sequel includes a trans boy on the main cast, both people of color (young adult).
The Wicker King by K. Ancrum: prepare for your heart to be torn out by this not-quite psychological thriller about two boys in a codependent relationship that must learn to cope with their less-than-ideal circumstances, and their also less-than-ideal dynamic. Read the book’s description for potential trigger warnings (young adult).
Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo: a series of short tales that tells the stories of british black women through different years, including the those of lgbt+ women (adult).
You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson: when a girl’s attempt to get a scolarship to the college of her dreams falls through, her only choice if she wants her life to keep going on the path she’s set for herself is to become prom queen. It’s just too bad that the competition is so cute (young adult).
Final Draft by Riley Redgate: an 18 year old writer, who happens to be a plus-size pansexual ecuatorian girl, learns the perils of adulthood and gains life experience in this extremely relatable contemporary novel (young adult).
They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera: a heart-wrenching novel about two boys that meet up to live the entirety of their life in a day - a day which happens to be their last. (death tw) (young adult).
Adaptation by Malinda Lo: when strange events turn the American government into a paranoid mess, Reese wakes up with a month of her life gone from her memories. This time, as our main character finds herself pulled in two directions, the love triangle is bisexual (young adult).
The Weight of the Stars by K. Ancrum: a slow-burn, slow-paced romance between two women that will leave the reader bewildered and feeling like they have a new understanding of life, with a touch of sci-fi (young adult).
She of the Mountains by Vivek Shraya: an illustrated novel that touches on gender, sexuality and a re-imagining of Hindu mythology (adult).
The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin: fantasy novel set in an apocalyptic world, with a cast made up mainly of black characters, that includes polyamory in the first book and wlw relationships on the latter ones (adult). Be wary of possible trigger warnings.
Note: all the links redirect to The Storygraph, a Black-owned site currently on Beta! Consider checking it out and giving it your support - it lets you import all of your books and shelves from Goodreads, but unlike Goodreads, it’s not owned and ran by Amazon.
#ania speaks#txt#to read#lit#also bc it's always tsoa rwrb tsoa rbwb#and its cool!! i adore both!! but let's support authors of color too#also most of these are own voices so they are from lgbt authors of color#also i either read all of those myself or they come from Trusted Sources#so in theory they should be qualitay

I joke a lot about my hatred of Finn, but on a serious note, IKAG is kinda triggering.
Like, a lesbian gets outed to her entire state and is forced to sit through an entire week of hell to make her outer feel better while knowing this, and not one person, including her gf and teachers, stand up for her.
Also, the fandoms treatment of this…So, if Santana got kicked out of her home, hatecrimed or worse, it wouldn’t be Finns fault because she was mean? What if this wasn’t a show and real life? Honestly, this says more about them than Santana.
I completely feel you. There’s a reason I always say IKAG trash takes are on another level and I genuinely cannot be having discussions with people saying those anymore. I get so mad not because this stupid TV show did something stupid but because it’s disrespectful to real people and their stories and it’s a gigantic red flag when someone, just, accepts that level of homophobia without question. I’m not calling everyone who buys the show’s narrative automatically homophobic, but I don’t think you can be fully aware and critical of media depictions and say that Finn Hudson wasn’t 100% in the wrong. You cannot justify outing someone and if you try I will block you.
Like, you know, I do get mad on a story level. It infuriates the shit out of me when good and interesting and important stories get ruined by incompetence. But it’s more than that because it is real life. Especially when this is the only queer female story you’re willing to go into detail about in your show that’s lauded as America’s progressive, super gay darling. And the middle-aged guys in power deemed certain stories more important, more worthy if respect than others. Clearly, this Afro-Latina’s coming out wasn’t one of them.
Like Naya herself said, there are people out there that it’s not a joke to, it’s their real lives. Put another way, Santana Lopez is a fictional character; your closeted friend who hears you say she had her own outing coming in any way, isn't.
#way too many thoughts but mostly strong feelings on this#i have found that i need to step away from ikag discussions after a while#even here on tumblr where i know none of the people i interact with would have those trash takes#it's legitimately upsetting to think about how little they valued santana's story#queer women in general really#and this was supposed to be the gayest show! millions looked to it as their escape#and then they did this to the one and only lesbian#stomach churning#ikag continues to be my villain origin story#glee asks#anon#anti finn hudson

do you have any queer reading recommendations I could pass along to my 13 year old sibling? they're in a middle school GSA that, as a collective, has some very uhhhhhh interesting ideas about how a lesbian needs to "look like a lesbian" and I want to give them exposure to the wider queer world
lmao yikes! I don't know if you're looking for lesbian-specific books or if that was just an example, but this article has some solid options that seem age appropriate and would be a good starting place, as well as offering a diversity of genres, covering a lot of different identities, and including more than just white authors
some other cool books that I think I would have enjoyed in middle school:
The House You Pass on the Way (Jacqueline Woodson) - Woodson is a Black lesbian who includes queer characters in almost all of her work, and - even better - has a prose style that routinely leaves me breathless. I'd recommend pretty much any of her work (After Tupac and D Foster is also incredible), but I have a special soft spot in my heart for this short novel about a young girl dealing with tender feelings for a female friend as well as the legacy of her family's involvement in the American civil rights movement. I'd also highly recommend Woodson's memoir-in-poetry about growing up between the south and New York City, Brown Girl Dreaming.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Benjamin Alire Sáenz) - one of the cornerstones of modern queer YA, and it deserves the hype! this story follows two young Latino boys through the 80s as they first become best friends and then struggle through the confusion of becoming something more, while also figuring out their own identities and their complicated families. a much-delayed sequel is finally coming out, so now's a great time to read to get acquainted with Ari and Dante!
Juliet Takes A Breath (Gabby Rivera) - fair warning that this book has some references to sex that are pretty non-descriptive but might not be every middle schooler's cup of tea! having said that, this book fucks and I think I would have really benefitted from having it when I was younger. it follows Latina teenager Juliet as she deals with accidentally coming out to her family, managing her first breakup, and realizing that her feminist role model isn't exactly who Juliet hoped she was. minor spoilers, but it ends with Juliet attending a party where she gets to really meet and mingle with other queer people for the first time, which could be a very helpful for, hypothetically, some kiddos still trying to figure out what gay people are supposed to be like.
you may also find it helpful to hook up these young readers with LGBTQ Reads, where they can filter for middle readers or young adult books (middle school is a tricky age where I think either could realistically be accessible and enjoyable, depending on the maturity of the book) but also things like type of romantic pairings in the book, tropes present, types of representation other than queer, and so on.

@goldenliartrash you're gonna regret having said that bestie
anyways below the cut you'll find the info i generated about the rochester girlies, have fun i guess:
For context, they all became friends in high school (some probably were friends since primary school / middle school but I didn't plan that early), and that high school is East High School, again, in Rochester, NY, and I simulated their lives from there on basically. There are 6 of them:
MARTA is Latina and during high-school lives with her dad Miguel (an AC installer) and their step-mother Allison (a stay at home mum) in 68 Herkimer Street. He uses all pronouns and identifies as a non-binary bisexual. She's the funny one of the group, and her best friend is Juliet. They played volleyball during high school and his favourite subject was Mandarin. As every normal person should, they hated PE. After high school she studies an A.A. in Liberal Arts & Science - Humanities & Social Science at Nassau Community College that takes two years to complete, some of the courses he takes are Composition I, Computer Science I (both in year 1), Modern American Novel, and Molecules & Medicines (in year 2). During college she plays in the local volleyball team as well. After graduating, she becomes a nursery teacher in The Brunswick School (Jersey City, NJ). She dates a guy called Damon for a bit before meeting his future husband when they were 19, George Bloom, an MBA in Media Management in the Metropolitan College of New York, through Hinge. They got married when Marta was 24 and George 29 and went on to have two kids, Robyn (he has it when she was 24), and Ken (when they were 26). George and her live in 200 West 107th Street, in Manhattan Valley, Manhattan, NYC, not moving away once. Robyn went on to study an A.S. in Construction Management at Hudson County Community College and work as a fantasy map cartographer, living in 916 Fire Island Avenue, West Islip, NY. Ken, on the other hand, studies an A.S. in Nursing at Rockland Community College and works as a nurse in Innovation Charter High School while living in 144 Duane Street, Lower Manhattan, Manhattan, NYC. Finally, he dies at 71 years old from a failed lacrimal gland lymphoma surgery.
FARAH is South Asian and lives in 68 Minnesota Street with her immigrant parents (from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh and Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh respectively) Harish (works in finance) and Shama (stay at home mum), and with her siblings, Rasi (7 years older), Sudesh (4 years older), and Sujit (1 year older). Her pronouns are she / her and she identifies as a cis lesbian. She's the hot girl of the group, and her best friend is Camille. During high school she dates honors student Clare Fears from junior year until they went to college, and she works part-time in Winton Branch Library. Her favourite subject was PE and she hated Calculus (me too bestie). After graduating she studies a B.A. in History at Princeton University; some of the courses she takes are A History of the World and Tragedy and the Meaning of Life (freshman year), Difference and Deviance in the Early Middle Ages (sophomore year), The World of Late Antiquity and English Constitutional History (junior year), and The Sixties: Documentary, Youth, and the City, and Venice and the Mediterranean World. In her sophomore year she spends a semester abroad at University College Dublin, and she is also part of the Percussion Playes Ensemble, Princeton. After graduating she goes on to study a Ph.D. in History at Princeton University, which takes five years to complete. Upon completion she becomes a professor and scholar at Princeton University (Princeton, NJ). While studying at Princeton she also worked as a front desk recepcionist in the Westminster Conservatory of Music. She dates a total of five women during her life, but the most important of them was Sienna Kennedy, whom she met at Princeton when they were both 26 and studying a Ph.D., although she was doing it in Psychology. They dated for 11 years before marrying, aged 37, but ultimately getting divorced 3 years after. After her Farah dates other two women, Grace and Elaine, at 40 and 47 years old respectively, but she only lasts for a year with each. She lives in a total of 5 houses, the most important ones being the first one she shared with Sienna, at 27, in 2001 Ravens Crest Drive, Plainsboro Township, NJ, where they live for 8 years; and her last one, the one she moves into after her divorce, in 11 Steeple Chase Road, Millstone, NJ. She doesn't have kids, but becomes the cool lesbian aunt to her friends' kids, and she dies at 89 years old from brucellosis.
JOHANNA is Black and during high school lives in 55 Indiana Street with her mums Stefani (judge) and Tina (waitress at an Italian restaurant). Her pronouns are she / her and identifies as a cis straight woman. She's the Regina George of the bunch, being the sassy leader / girlboss, and her best friend is Madi. She plays in the high school's basketball team, and loves Chemistry but hates Algebra. For five months in her junior year she dated the artsy bohemian kid Alfonso Verdín. Results of the radblr survey
After over a thousand responses in just two days, I’m posting the results! I’ll leave the survey open to new responses just to see what happens over time. I also want to note that as this was anonymous it’s not perfectly reliable or accurate; I addressed some of the most common complaints in this post and I’ll say more in future posts. There were 33 questions and this post only contains the first 7 written out, plus a link to the results in google forms. I’m still working on transcribing the other questions :)
Age
59.8% of respondents are in their 20s, 30.4% are under 20, 8.1% are in their 30s, and the rest are over 30. This is definitely skewed by the fact that older gc/radfems are much less likely to be on tumblr, but still interesting.
Sex
Some people were concerned about the fact that this survey was open to men. However I don’t think this ended up messing with the data too much because only 29 men responded.
Sexual Orientation
39.1% of respondents are lesbians and 37.4% are bisexuals. 13.6% are straight, 1.1% are fully asexual, and 1% are gay men. 7.8% are unsure or questioning.
Transgender Identity
18% of respondents are dysphoric females (males are 0.4%), 3.5% are detrans females, (no detrans men), and 1.5% are trans identified females (males are 0.3%). 76.3% fit none of these descriptors.
Race
75.8% of respondents are white, 7.4% are latina, 4% are black, 3% are middle eastern, 2.9% are east asian, 2.5% are south asian, 2.2% are indigenous, 0.4% are pacific islander, and 9.4% are mixed (though this number is probably higher because many people wrote in their specific racial mix). Recently I changed this question to allow people to check multiple options, so the graph is unreadable.
Religion
47.4% of respondents are atheist and 24.7% are agnostic. 10.4% follow a female-centric religion. 6% are christian, 2.1% are jewish, 1.7% are pagan, 1% are islamic, 0.5% are hindu, and 5.9% follow a different religion.
Country
It’s impossible to list every country and it’s percentages but the most common ones are the US (50.4%), the UK (10.9%), Canada (5.7%), Australia (4%), France (2.2%), and Russia (1.9%). Some people complained that the survey was america-centric and I apologise for that, as I am from the US myself. [The key is also kinda useless in the picture because there are so many options it can't display]
~~~~~
These are just the basic demographic questions but I wanted to post them now because it’ll take me a while to transcribe all of the data. If you don’t want to have to wait another day you can see the responses here.
BONUS FUN:
I find it interesting that such a high percentage of respondents are vegan/vegetarian compared to the general population
Cats win! Not that it's a competition I guess ;)
Blue is most popular, followed by purple and green (we really like cool colors huh) and then pink/red tie, black, yellow, orange, brown, white, and some people who weren't sure. It's quite annoying that the graph colors don't match the actual colors but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
