Heads up (read tags too) on what’s been going on.
Just a little heads up that my dad is dying and he’s probably going to go in the next week. It could be longer, but I went to see him today and he looked like a cadaver, barely clinging to life. This was probably the last time I’ll see him.
It’s been a harrowing few months for him, for my mum, and for me, and I want to thank those of you who knew and have been enormously kind. Our lives have been completely on hold while he’s been slipping away, and it’s clear that he’s not long for this world.
He smiled and knew who I was when I held his hands today, but he couldn’t speak and he couldn’t even turn his head or hold it in place or lift it from the pillow. He couldn’t drink and he’s so thin that they’ve stopped weighing him because he’s too ill for them to worry about that now. He honestly looked like a corpse in the bed already.
I just wanted to post this so anyone wondering where I’ve been and why I’ve not felt like doing much in the creative line of things for months can now hopefully just understand.
Thanks again for your kind thoughts and messages over the past few months. Please don’t feel like you need to add anything or reach out because of this, but I just wanted folks to know why I’ve been so reclusive and empty for the better part of this year so far.
Take care of yourselves, and let your loved ones know you love them, every chance you get.

It is so, so important to me that people understand that Tim didn't figure out the bats because Dick was a "Show off". Like yes, Dick Grayson is the most flamboyant, dramatic ass man you will ever meet.
But the quadruple somersault? There's no way that was because dick was just showing off. Because you're telling me Bruce Wayne, who's so committed to hiding his identity that he literally acts like a completely different person out of the mask in public just to ward suspicion, would miss the fact that Robin regularly uses the flying Grayson's trademark move? There's literally no way.
In the comics we see Tim explain his deductive process to Dick and Alfred and they're both surprised impressed whatever. We don't see him explain it to Bruce. I think Bruce would be surprised and shocked that a 9 year old was able to put the pieces together but I don't think he'd be surprised that the quadruple somersault gave it away.
So if Bruce was possibly aware of such an obvious give away, why let it continue?
I'll tell you why.
It really comes down to the physics
So Dick was 9 when he started out right? That means the most he'd have likely weighed was 43kgs or roughly 95lbs in freedom units.
But Dick and both of his parents are gymnasts who tend to be smaller. So he was likely less than that.
In physics, rotating objects build up angular momentum (this is how bikes stay up right for example). The more rotation, the more momentum. And objects with less mass build up that momentum much faster than those that are heavier.
Robin constantly has to fight people who are nearly 3 times his size. I teach 8 year olds, they're tiny. A quadruple somersault for a small boy that weighs less than a hundred pounds is a brutal weapon. Especially if you add in the acceleration from gravity as he drops in from above.
And I can guarantee you this logic tracks because Dick literally utilizes this idea, without the somersault, in the 2009 teen titans cartoon.
Yeah, that's right. We're talking about the infamous knee drop.
Like it is borderline savage. Add in a quadruple somersault and the resulting force is nearly fatal. It's likely the main reason Batman would ever allow him to do it with the cape on.
Also, Dick landing feet first on the penguin in the first image probably gave the guy severe back issues
#I'm so tired of people giving Dick shit for being a show off#like he is for sure#but thats not what gave him away#it's strategic and practical#he's using the skills he already had in his repertoire to his advantage#also unrelated but#when Tim shows up to convince dick to be robin again#and has to explain how he figured it out#it was just after the arc where dick and bruce had to deal with tony zucco getting out of prison and nearly starting a gang war#pretty sure zucco dies sometime during it#but it brings up a lot of feelings for dick#which is the entire reason Tim finds him at Haley's circus in new york#then Tim immediately reminds him about his parents death again#and technically jasons too because thats his entire purpose for being there#point is#dick was going THROUGH it when Tim shows up#idk thought it bore mentioning#lena speaks#batman#tim drake#dc comics#robin#batman and robin#dick grayson#bruce wayne#nightwing#dc robin#dc analysis#a lonely place of dying#physics

Huh, found an older art piece of the FSM as a child
My anatomy is meh here but oh well. The eyes around him are basically the onis and the dragons. Its the pressure he felt when they were making him chose sides in a war… yikes.
Rambling below cut (and sketch!)
I hc he ran away when he was 14-15. This is him as a kid, basically 14. Also, i thought it’d be fun if he looked like both his sons hence the two toned hair (personally think he made his kids asexually btw cause its hilarious)
I also like to think hes a lot like BOTH his sons personality wise.
ANYWAY that moment when trauma hits you like a truck. As a child soldier, you are robbed of your childhood (lloyd parallel fr) and then you run away making 16 realms, 2 kids and possibly humans as well. You ingrain it into your everyday life and never realise your coping methods are unhealthy until you suddenly realise you’ve hurt your sons, but its too late by then.
My angst material is focusing on the generational trauma here btw
I mean FSM runs from the pressure from everyone around him -> Wu and Garmadon feel pressure to uphold their fathers expectations and everyone elses -> Lloyd trying to uphold expectations from everyone around him…
(Also, so fun cause my lloyd design looks like his grandfather, OOF think of the parallels is what i’m saying)
This family makes me crazy…
Bonus,, sketch
#no wonder this guy did so many fucked up things#bro was not number 1 parent lol#its cause of generational trauma :/#FSM didnt know how to raise his kids cause he was never a kid himself#yikes#imagine the behaviour he thought was normal that ended up being very much NOT normal#like testing your son to know where your tomb is by giving him a script secretly#and then dying w/o warning#ANYWAY#i’ll stop rambling#ninjago#lego ninjago#fsm#fsm ninjago#ninjago fsm#ninjago first spinjitzu master#first spinjitzu master#ninjago fanart#ninjago wu#ninjago garmadon#lord garmadon#sensei wu#last few tags cause i mention them in my rambling

I think one of the most interesting ways to write Steve’s parents (or his mom, at least) is as a deeply flawed person with good intentions.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a fic where they’re just bad people. Sometimes that’s all you need for a good story and this is not a criticism of anybody’s interpretation.
My personal preference in writing his parents is as people who are trying to be good parents.
Like, im currently messing around with this AU concept where Steve has a really complicated family dynamic. In it, he has bad parents. His mother made a choice to follow her husband because she thinks it’s the only way to preserve her marriage and thus preserve a good life for her son. It’s not malicious neglect but it is neglect. She’s trying to do the right thing but she’s making the wrong decisions. In the end, she’s still hurting her child.
A couple years ago I wrote this fic about Steve spiraling into a severe depression and his parents are trying to help him. They just don’t listen. They don’t understand what he’s dealing with and they make the wrong choices when trying to help him. Everybody that tries to help him makes the wrong choices, but with the best of intentions. Steve says repeatedly throughout the fic that it’s not his parents fault they don’t know how to be parents.
It’s really fun to write and it’s really cathartic if your relationship with your parents isn’t easy.
#I’m very lucky to have great parents but I don’t have parents who really understand me#so you know…✨inspiration✨#I also have an unfinished companion piece to a fic where Steve is dying#and in the foc Steve talks about his dad going out of town while his son is actively dying#he mentions that his dad had watched both his parents die slow deaths and implies that his parents are killing his in their minds to#make it easier when he actually dies. which isn’t a good to do but it is an incredible hard situation to be in#people don’t make the right choices all the time and I think it’s an interesting place to explore in your writing#again this isn’t like a diss at people who write them as like evil#I do that too. there’s not a lot of depth to his parents in the tiktok saga#steve harrington

as a little treat i am sharing with you little Aya doodles I've done over the last few days to unwind ww just little expressions based on lines in-game because those are always fun to draw. nothing too special just biscuit
it's Aya because upon doing bizarrely throughout playthroughs of the game for still unspecified project purposes I've gained a soft spot for her she's my daughter now my mental tier list on my favorite characters is so confusing right now
#re:kinder#fanart#aya re:kinder#aya hibino#i state shes my daughter NOW because before i didnt pay too big of a mind to her#but honestly in each different playthrough of this game i gain new appreciation for each character#because fun fact ryou was my favorite character at first just because he seemed nice and was a healer and was nice#second playthrough brought in rei and shunsuke in my mind because they ate it up wirh their roles in the story#meanwhile as time passed yuuichi started to grow on me as i realized he was a little too relatable BASICALLY THINGS LIKE THAT#and spoilers for the unspecified project mentioned in the text just because i feel like it#i also did this because having a transcript of every line just spurred me on becquse of how easy it made things#its much more fun to start doing these kind of line based doodles when you dont have to manually go througj hours of gameplay to find stuff#so just being ablr to ctrl f through a document made me very glad HEUEHEHEBEHR#im still working on it it needs proofreading and polishing on some sides but overall it should be here soon i hope#if anyones interested in it do let me know HUEHEHEBRB i will post it regardless but it would be nice to know if anyone is interested#ANYWAY#as to why Aya seems to have a purse when her sprite doesnt its because her equipment mentions her carrying a yellow pouch#its meant to be that!!!#she looks very goofy with it on made me giggle ngl#(as in. amusement)#it adds more interest to her visual design so its nice to have it there im glad its there#OH YEAH SOME COMMENTARY ON ONE OF HER LINES HERE THAT REALLY PIQUED MY INTEREST#if sayaka dies and shes there to see it (thus. you chose to bring her with you) she has this line#where it implies that shes afraid of dying which makes things sad when she's suicidal#she already states i think her desire is more to disappear than to die exactly but even then it's quite sad#like even if she wants to disappear with how gloomy she's feeling and all the things going around with her parents#shes just a little girl who doesn't want to die😭😭#it really adds a sense of realism to how depression is tackled in game at least for me#that when one is depressed and suicidal a lot of the time it's the wish for this state of suffering to end rather than to actually die#SUCH A GOOD CHARACTER ITS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT UPPED MY APPRECIATION FOR HER

the biggest misconception i had about octopath lore when i first played ot1 was that every time anyone mentioned "the war" they were talking about a huge realm-wide war that started over 21 years ago not long before the destruction of grynd and ended 8 years ago with the fall of hornburg. that this all encompassing war was the cause of ophilia and therion being orphaned, was a major factor in the fall of house azelhart, was the main cause of the great pestilence that nearly killed alfyn as a kid, and was of course a very influential event in olberic's life. and when i started reading into extended canon and such it was extremely disappointing to find out this wasn't the case.
in my opinion it is so much more interesting to read octopath 1 as a story that takes place in "the aftermath". to see how people's lives were affected by the war and how they rebuild after such devastation.
#as for the 3 travelers i didnt mention... obviously the war affected cyrus' research immensely and caused the loss of a lot of information#for h'aanit i imagine that pre-war tensions led a lot of monsters to attack towns?#i actually dont remember if her parents dying from a monster attack that z'aanta was fending off was canon or if i just made that up#anyway. as for tressa i would say its the reason why her parents seemed to shelter her and opposed her going on an adventure at first?#op#ot1#oh wait this is a meta post isnt it. welp#meta posts

"When she got sick, I felt my life losing its purpose. I’d do anything to save her. And I did! I don’t regret it!" this is one of reth's dialogues and like,, do you see what i mean when i say that the dialogue is So conflicting at times? like it's Just vague enough that it can very easily imply that tish Just got sick as an adult and that reth took action quickly afterwards. like it's worded in such a way that it doesn't Quite fit the vibes of tish being sick as a child. i'm not saying that reth wouldn't feel that strongly as a kid, but i am saying that it's worded in a way that implies a quicker passing of time between tish getting sick and reth getting into debt to save her life.
i feel like the devs really need to sort out the timeline and fix the dialogue to match up with it. either their parents died when they were like 5-10 or when they were teenagers/young adults. either tish got sick as a child or right before they moved to kilima. like,, you can't have dialogue that implies Both :')
#tbf they could make it so that tish was sick as a child. got better. and then it came back when she was an adult...#that would fit the new timeline of their parents dying 15 years ago too#and reth only being able to save her once they were adults#it also matches the one dialogue tish has about being sick as a child#since she doesnt mention how long and the second part where she says her parents weren't sure if she would make it#is worded in Just the right way to make it seem like it happened Once#i feel like it fits a lot more especially with reth's Constant dialogue that makes it seem like it just fucking happened#like as a kid he probably didnt Quite understand how serious it was or maybe he did but he couldnt do anything about it#other than spend time with her and make her soup#but if she got sick Again? and it was worse this time around? or it gradually got worse? that would also explain reth's urgency#and him feeling like his life was spiraling and lost meaning#OUGH#its just so :')#im trying to make sense of all the lore but when things are too vague and contradict too much it makes it a lot harder :')

The funniest part about my OCs is that, out of all characters, Kee has the most normal parents (others I just didn't get much into-)
Like. There are three somewhat main characters: Derres, Lioo and Kee (like Sonic the Hedgehog). There's also Ies, but her deal is kind of Complicated™, since they're not quite. Someone to have parents. Cuz. She's a demon-
But anyways (warning for death mention):
Derres doesn't want to remember his parents much to not let the grief and trauma resurface, but he idolises them a lot. However, his speech about them is more often than not very... vague, prioritising the feeling of him missing their company than any specific memory. And I don't blame him, because, if you actually dig in, there aren't many niceties to remember! Being a witcher in a secluded place, from a dynasty of sorts, it was inevitable that a lot of responsibility would be put onto him, especially considering he is the youngest, most recent holder of the amplifiers. So, the pressure resulted in an odd dynamic where young Derres knew that he is loved (he must be loved), but would dismiss his own feelings to prioritise what is important, so that he would be given attention (the way to earn love). Of course, it does not mean the parents were cold to him all the time, but it was not an ideal dynamic. And sadly, one that could not be prevented or, at least, mended. Not now...
Lioo, on the other hand, despises her mom, namely because of how she handled her proposal to become Derres' apprentice. Now, obviously, she was 18 when she left home to do what she wanted, so you need to take this with a grain - or a cup - of salt. However, her decision had somewhat reasonable roots: she saw how much Derres provided for the community, stressing himself out every day, and wanted to easen up his job. Her mom did not take it well, though, shutting down the idea at every possibility. Think of "Blow My Brains Out" by Tikkle Me, specifically the chorus (lyrics):
Lucky is she who lives unaware Doesn't get bothered by those who don't care Lucky is she who lives unaware Who doesn't get bothered by all that's unfair Unlucky me who knows way too much Who fights to make changes and music and such Unlucky me, aware of the pain All 'cause I happen to have some brain
Mixing together teenager maximalism and seeing the indifferent response to trying to fix the issue is bound to create fire. And it wasn't put out, even after drowning. In fact... The rift deepened. Since, who else can be blamed for your daughter's death, but the man who "took her away with witchcraft"? Who else can be yelled at for ruining your child? For making a deal with a demon? Who else?
And then we have Kee, who has been fully supported by his parents throughout his entire life. Said parents tried their best to help him adjust to the prosthetics and reach out when their son suddenly isolated himself and left the city. He's gonna regret that, alright.
All in all, very funny how the guy you'd expect to have fucked up upbringing actually has it fine, he just got hurt much later in life than the rest, hence why his coping isn't very good. And well. We are witnessing it in real time, and not as a memory. Trauma is messy
#dusty.ocs#dusty.txt#oc lore dump#because i want to cause. Congrats on Carlykit becoming Carlypaw :D
Slightly more seriously I do love what they’re doing with these two. Carly having just lost her dad and Arcee having lost Ultra Magnus a while ago. One coping very poorly and desperate to get stronger, one coping okay for now and distressed at their own fighting ability. Grief seems like it’s going to be a major theme in this comic and I’m interested to see where it gets taken. Especially given the circumstances just keep compounding that grief.
Also provided they all survive that long I hope Carly gets to meet Ultra Magnus someday. And that she makes up with Cliff.
#Transformers#Maccadam#Skybound#And shameless Warriors references#Still wondering if Carly’s mom just disappeared or what because I swear she mentioned “parents”#But I don’t remember her dying#So???#Also we need more gals interacting in general in this franchise#Maybe Elita’s Ladybots Squad will show up?#(I doubt it. But I would like it…)

Gwen Stacy: A Character Study
Spoilers ahead for Across the Spider-Verse
I started typing this in the tags of that last Gwen Stacy reblog and realized I had way too many thoughts on this to flood the tags with. Okay if you didn't read those tags, all I had said at first was that I had seen a lot of discourse about Gwen. Miles doesn't need to take her back, she's a bad friend, how dare she show up at the cookout knowing all she knew (lol that one made me laugh ngl), nothing too heinous but I didn't see a whole lot of forgiveness. Before I get in to this, I'm not excusing her behavior in the slightest. I just think there's a lot more to it than her being a bad friend to Miles. The whole movie, Miles is trying to make a point that he's not a kid. But...he is. The way the adults try to direct his life is juvenille and definitely make it seem like he's younger, but he is still only 15. He gets away with a lot cause he's still just a kid and he's still learning. Gwen doesn't get the same treatment and yet...she's only 15mos older. She's not years older like Hobie or even Peter B.. She's barely 16 herself. Now here's a girl who still blames herself for her best friend's death and who's dad blames her for her best friend's death (unknowingly). She befriends this kid who's just.like.her. Dad's a cop, he's new to being a spider, he's her age, and he too feels alone. But she can't get too close because she hurts the people she loves. She literally STARTS the movie explaining this.
When she finally reveals herself to her father, he turns his back on her. Now here's this group of other spiders who can travel to different dimensions freely and can provide her a fastrack ticket back to Miles. She asks Jessica to adopt her on sight. And that's before her dad even drops her, that's how alone she feels. She already feels like she doesn't have a home. So imagine her probable horror when she finds out that the new best friend she's trying to get back to, is the number 1 enemy of her new "family". He's the cause of a whole host of problems and she's forbidden to tell him. She can't go back home and she can't stay with Miles because she'll glitch without a watch. And she can't even use the watch because she's not supposed to see Miles at all. So what can she do, go back and have her dad arrest her? Or stay with the only people who understand her? They show us in multiple ways that she hangs out with Hobie the most. Now they want us to think there's something there and she probably has a small crush, but that's mostly just cause Hobie's kind of too cool not to have a slight infatuation with him. (And that's coming from someone who doesn't even like guys). But I like to think Hobie also is the only person who doesn't trust Miguel and doesn't really agree with "the plan". So she hangs with the one other person *besides Peter B, who doesn't hate on Miles. I can only imagine how insufferable Miguel probably is about it. So she finally gets an opportunity to be in Miles' dimension and the FIRST thing she does is go to him. Breaks all protocol, ditches her tracking device, and goes to hang out with her best friend.
Now this is the point in which I do believe she could've told him. Especially since the last time she lied, her best friend died. But we've seen Miguel can get unhinged. To a level even Peter B. didn't know he was capable of. She knows they don't like Miles. If she tells him and he goes to confront Miguel and he kills Miles, she's now caused the death of two best friends. If she tells Miles and Miguel finds out, and takes her watch, she's now lost any chance of EVER getting back to Miles not to mention she gets thrown back with her dad...who hates her. So she does what any 16yr old girl would do when faced with a lot of tough decisions....she lies (again), and she runs. First from the Spiderteam and then from Miles. She tries to do what Miles did and have two cakes, but she's bad at it. She's not designed to "break canon" so rule breaking isn't in her nature. I think there's actually a lot more to how much that drives who they all are as people. Which also explains why Miles simply doesn't get it. Even with Hobie, it's in.his.DESIGN to be an anarchist, ergo he's still following his own canon. But Miles doesn't have a canon. So none of his friend's actions are going to make sense to him.
I don't know. I think a lot of Gwen's decisions can be chalked up to "she's a 16yr old girl with her own baggage". She wants to see her best friend but it comes at a cost. A cost she pays for almost immediately when hanging with Miles is the reason the Spot gets even stronger and then escapes. She was supposed to be watching him but she impulsively went to go hang out with her best friend. Thus dragging Miles into the problem because he follows her. Her lying gets people hurt in so many ways. But if she had told Miles the truth, he still would've followed her. He has a thirst for knowledge and a need to help. He was always going to intervene when given the chance. Gwen's choices were between family or friends. Same as Miles. The only difference being, Miles considers them to be the SAME thing thus making the decision to choose, damn near impossible for him. He's close with his family but he can't tell them the truth, so he just needs friends who understand him. She needs both but she told her dad the truth and he turned his back, so if she tells Miles the truth....... She's been told explicitly that she can either have this new family who gets/wants her, or go back to her dad if she chooses Miles (who also gets her on a level that no one else does) but who she can't be with without risk of death by glitch....so she lies. And when she realizes she still has her dad, guess what her first act is? Going back to Miles. So should she have lied to him? No. But would telling him the truth have yielded different results? Honestly, I don't know. But I like to think no. Everything still would've happened, just differently. The Spot still would've gotten away and Miles would still go against Miguel to save his dad and stop the Spot. Unfortunately the only thing her lying did was put tension on their friendship, but she had no way of knowing if telling him would work in anyone's favor.
Now Peter B......I want to know if Miguel threatened him. Cause when Miles asks why he didn't come to see him he says the same thing as Gwen, "I couldn't". Miles doesn't really hear that. He hears "i had the opportunity to see you and I chose differently" but that's not what either of them said. I'm hoping they show us more of that cause there's a lot of power in the word "couldn't".
#wow that was a lot#i knew i had thoughts but my damn#i didn't think it was that many#idk i just really love the character arc they gave gwen#i thought it spoke a lot to the differences in how someone's home life affects their decisions#miles has his parents in his corner so he's just a teenager with superpowers#he doesn't have all of the trauma that the other spiders have outside of his uncle dying#he has both parents and they're stable#not to mention his dad also gets along with spiderman so telling him would actually solve a lot of his problems. not cause more#it's so obvious miles isn't canon just based on his relationships with people not fitting the reality for 'spiderman'#across the spiderverse#atsv#across the spider verse spoilers#gwen stacy#spider gwen#ghost spider#miles morales#spiderman#spiderverse#spiderverse spoilers#and again. i didn't see any hate towards gwen but people kept lumping her decisions with peter b#and they had two different driving forces for why they didn't tell miles#peter is an adult who can choose not listen to miguel...hence why i think something else is going on#original post#contactkhy

Obsessed with whatever the fuck went down in LPoD from Bruce's side of things like. POV you've been engaged in a week-long, homoerotic battle of wits with your oldest-friend-turned-dear-rogue while blatantly ignoring your growing recklessness and suicidal ideation brought on by the tragic death of your youngest son. You begrudgingly recruit your eldest to help you with the case and even though you want nothing more than to protect him you both end up under a pile of rubble with very little chance of escape. You've failed again, you've doomed both you and your son again- no, wait. There's a fucking. DARK HAIRED. BLUE EYED. Overeager thirteen year old you've never met even once in your life dressed in the Robin suit pulling you from the rubble. He knows your most closely guarded secret. He knows how to fight. He wants to help. Your butler is there for some reason. He and your son tell you to give him a chance bc they know him?????? Somehow??????????? You agree to train him but say you don't want another son. You are lying. You have already mentally drawn up the adoption papers, you fucking liar. The universe has a sense of humour and it is laughing at you.
#I mean tbf to Bruce#Dick and Alfred were also against the idea for like#two whole hours#but come on#the kid figured out your secret identities tracked you down and had the gall to not only fight two-face#but also tell Batman what's good for him to his face#all while displaying a concerning lack of parental oversight#he might as well have showed up with a resume#anyways#dc#tim drake#bruce wayne#batman#hehehe long post#nobody's speaking#tw suicide mention#a lonely place of dying
