I want to be a poet.
I want to be an author, or a show writer.
I want to write the most gut-wrenching tragedies, the most sickeningly sweet romances, I want my words to be studied for centuries after my death, my autobiography, my poems, my stories, my marks.
But at the same time I want to be a psychologist.
Or a biologist.
Or neurologist or astronomer or botanist or historian or linguist.
I want to research everything on the human mind, the way it works the way it functions, how we as humans are the way we are, i want to learn everything about the world. How we got here how we speak what we speak. I want to learn everything about space, about how life could have been created,
I want to learn everything about everything.
And at the same time I know
That giving explanations
To questions
Gets rid
Of curiosity.
I want to leave my mark on history, on the world, I want to be remembered. I don't want to be another one of the billions, trillions, quadrillions, gazillions of people who live and then die and are never remembered as anything other than a grave.
I want to leave my mark.
But at the same time
Id rather not be seen.
I don't want to give the world
To give history
The satisfaction
Of my name.

New Year's is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls, and humbug resolutions, and we wish you to enjoy it with a looseness suited to the greatness of the occasion. - Mark Twain

i think the primary reason why K/S has such overwhelming appeal is and always shall be that it is, at its core, a soulmate bond that has to be forged. the only way a t'hy'la bond can manifest is through shared toil, hardships, and undying devotion; it must be given effort and put together piece by piece - but at the same time, by the nature of its creation, it alters all realities on a cosmic level, to the point that Kirk and Spock must meet in every universe.
t'hy'la is not spontaneous. it is not a soulmate mark, it doesn't spring to life at first sight or first touch or first word. it is destined - because it is chosen, time and time again. you cannot have one without the other

rook being such a nobody and surrounded by more influential companions right after the obviously well known inquisitor could be really cool actually. that conversation w solas 'what will they call you after this is done' <- NO FUCKING CLUE LOL!! the idea that this millennia long, world-ending story of gods and a herald being controlled for a moment by a nobody is incredible. they start as an irritant and end having saved the world. nobody thanks them. they go back home. maybe they're literally wiped off the face of the world when they're trapped in the fade with the dread wolf! and most of all, their name is not remembered. literally, because they become a 'rook' to the inquisitor's king.
like i’m actually really liking the idea that the inquisitor and rook get conflated into the same person by the public and by history, and what little agency they had is taken away. you were never in control of this story. your narrative will be written by other people, just like every figurehead that came before you. you are not the chosen one. the choice to have faded out and see the irrelevancy as a boon, or struggle to make your name known (not rook, not the nickname, not the title) would have been so. interesting.
veilguard is a heroic story (and the game doesn’t even let you be rude most of the time) that has to end heroically (the evanuris are defeated in some way, the last archdemon dies, and most rooks climb down from minrathous to literal cheers and applause) but the hero themself is forgettable. narratively that could have been so funnnn. but it wasn’t on purpose so it just feels hollow.

New day, same book and same struggle to focus. I need this thing to be done, it's so stressing and tiring to try to keep my focus on this. It's written so fucking badly I can't take it anymore. And after sending a few passages to a friend I can confirm I am not the problem, the book is. It's so tiring on my brain that I am also less motivated to read in my free time, which is fine, but it shows how badly it's influencing me. My free time, when I am alone, these days mainly consists of listening to music, doing sudoku puzzles and continuing my Lost rewatch. I am now at the end of season 3 and I am not joking when I say I don't remember shit. I mean I do have a few memories of things that will happen, but there has been so many plot points amd twists I had completly forgotten.
productivity list:
read first thing in the morning
finished reading and underlining the first half of the last section of the book (now I only have to work on the second half and the epilogue which should be less than 50 pages)
started writing down notes for what I have read yesterday and today
started outlining a few thoughts on what my 2025 reading goals are going to be (I feel like this year I really learned a lot on what I want my reading to be, I will be writing a post on that around the end of the year)

Another traditional print I did a few months ago, an etching to be precise. This specimen's proud owner is the lovely Sir Rylance himself! Even though he sighed looking at it as if he was mourning an old friend. Definitely makes watching the new season more painful 🥲
