i hate long covid rearing its head any time i’m even slightly vulnerable. it snowed overnight and my knees had been hurting all day yesterday but I was at least functional. woke up today and basically could barely walk. called off work and literally slept all day. I need a fucking vacation.

Summary: Y/N is six months pregnant and experiences a complication. House is dealing with a delicate case and Cuddy chooses not to inform him.

Y/N worked on patient files quietly in her office after a long day of seeing patients. She shifted in her seat as an uncomfortable sensation began to appear in her stomach and lower back. Y/N took a breath, smoothing a hand over her bump as she waited for it to pass.
Braxton hicks contractions were common, especially as the pregnancy progressed but this felt different. The pain was constant, it felt like her muscles were being torn apart. Y/N stood up from her seat with a grimace, she moved around her desk with a hand on her belly.
Y/N paused, crying out in pain as blood began to soak into the material of her pants. Y/N's hand shot out to her desk, it landed on a pile of stacked files that slipped out from under her palm. Y/N fell, her head collided with the edge of the desk as she landed on the floor.
Y/N had lost consciousness and no one had any idea that she was injured. House was working on a complicated case, Cuddy was supervising him and Wilson was with his patients.
No one had any idea how long she had been on the floor when Wilson finally found her. Y/N was admitted right away and her obstetrician was notified.
Y/N had a partial placental abruption, she lost quite a bit of blood and was having contractions. They were able to get her on a drug called magnesium sulfate in an attempt to stop her labor.
The contractions began to slow, but there was still the potential for an early birth. Y/N was given a blood transfusion and corticosteroids to speed up the baby's lung development.
Wilson stayed by her side throughout everything, "Where is House?" Y/N asked softly. She was weak and exhausted with a possible concussion.
"He's on a case," Wilson said. A pit was beginning to form in his stomach as she looked over at him with a terrified expression.
"Does he know?" She asked.
"Not yet, no," Wilson replied.
Y/N looked down at her bump, hand settling on her skin as she took a shaky breath. Wilson watched her eyes begin to fill with tears as she struggled to keep herself from crying.
"I-I'll go get him," Wilson said, standing up from his seat beside her bed.
"Wait, I don't want to be alone," Y/N mumbled.
"Whatever you need," He nodded, sitting back down.
Wilson pulled out his phone and sent a message to Cuddy.
'She needs him.' He typed.
Cuddy's reply was almost instant, 'How bad is it?' She'd asked.
'Partial abruption, stage two. They were able to stop contractions but are monitoring the baby for distress. She's on magnesium sulfate and corticosteroids but she also needed a transfusion,' Wilson typed back.
'Stay with her. We need him on this case.' She replied, leaving no room for argument
Wilson grimaced before tucking his phone into his pocket, "What's wrong? Is he not coming?" Y/N questioned.
"He's held up with something," Wilson said.
Y/N nodded, fingers brushing lightly across her bump as she sniffled softly.
"I'm sorry," Wilson said.
"It's fine," Y/N said shakily, brushing away a tear with trembling hands.
Wilson couldn't stand to see her upset, the idea of keeping this information from House was eating him up inside. The case that House was dealing with was important, but the life of his wife and child should be more important.
The case was proving to be difficult for the team, their patient was President Dibala and he was an African dictator. Hundreds of thousands of people would lose their lives if he was cured and the ethical dilemma complicated things.
House was able to compartmentalize easily, but Cameron's strong opinions and moral compass made her one of the worst people to be treating the president. Chase tried to keep her in check, but she was struggling to maintain her objectivity.
The last thing Wilson heard was that there was an assassination attempt against Dibala. He could understand why Cuddy wanted House to stay on the case and remain focused, but it still made him uncomfortable.
Wilson stayed by Y/N's side until she eventually fell asleep and he was able to step away. Wilson went straight to House's office, he lingered by the door as they went through another differential.
House noticed him and dismissed his team members, they filed out of the conference room and made their way back to the patient's room.
"House, I need to talk to you," Wilson said.
"I'm in the middle of something, it can wait," House stated, staring at the whiteboard.
"No, it can't... It's Y/N," Wilson said.
House looked over at him, "What happened?" He questioned.

Y/N opened her eyes, grimacing as her head pounded under the harsh fluorescent lights. She closed her eyes, hoping that the throbbing in her temples would resolve itself.
"Where does it hurt?" Someone asked.
Y/N opened her eyes, looking over to find House sitting at her bedside. His eyes ran over her body before glancing up at the machines that were keeping track of her and the baby's vitals.
"My head," Y/N mumbled.
"You have a concussion. It's gonna hurt," House stated.
He stood up from his seat, grabbing his cane and moving over to the door. He shut off the lights in the room before returning to his chair.
"Where were you?" Y/N asked.
"Doesn't matter, I'm here now," He said.
Y/N settled back against the pillows, her hands rested on bump as she looked down at herself.
"Is she moving?" House asked, Y/N nodded.
"I was scared that I was going to lose her... The pain was terrible and there was so much blood," She said shakily.
"I'm sorry I wasn't here, but she's okay and you're okay," House stated.
"The doctor put me on bedrest for the remainder of the pregnancy," Y/N said.
"I figured," He nodded.
"How are we going to do this, Greg?" Y/N questioned, already sounding defeated.
"We'll figure it out. I'll reduce my hours and we can hire someone to help around the house in the meantime," House said.
Y/N took a breath, "Don't worry," House stated.
"I'm not," Y/N replied.
"Your heart rate says otherwise," House said, glancing up at the vitals machine.
Y/N smiled slightly, "Well, I'm trying not to worry," She said.
House stayed by her side overnight, his case was overly complicated and resulted in the death of President Dibala. Cuddy was right to encourage House to maintain his focus on the case but it was an impossible situation.
The circumstances surrounding Dibala's death were murky, but House couldn't bring himself to care. It was true that the president was a bad person and his ideas would damage an entire population, but it was still a black mark on his record.
House's significant other and their child needed to take priority.

Y/N had been on bedrest for three weeks and she was absolutely miserable. She read every book she had intended to and watched all the trash television that she could stomach.
House did as he promised and limited his hours, during difficult cases he asked Wilson to check up on her. Wilson had been a vital part of their support system in the last few weeks.
Wilson helped them to assemble the furniture for the nursery and finish painting the walls. He cooked for Y/N when House wasn't able to and had just been an incredible help during this time.
Y/N was incredibly bored, but Wilson did everything he could to keep her spirits up. He knew that it must have been awful to be trapped in the house for such a long period of time.
He never came to their home empty-handed, he always brought snacks, gifts or flowers for Y/N. House appreciated his friend's kindness and let Wilson know that their door was always open to him.
House made his way into the apartment, tossing his keys into the dish and shrugging off his coat. House laid it over the back of the couch, pushing the door shut with his cane and making his way down the hallway to the bedroom.
Wilson sat in the chair beside the bed as Y/N sat with her back against the headboard. A laundry basket of various baby items sat on the bed beside her.
Y/N folded the items and set them in a stack on the bed next to her. Wilson folded the items in his own basket, gaze focused on the television.
"She did not sleep with his best friend, did she?" Wilson asked, not daring to pull his eyes away from the screen.
"Oh yeah, they've been sleeping together for at least two seasons in secret," Y/N said.
"No way. The cameras follow them everywhere, how could they find the time?" He questioned.
Y/N shrugged, "They stay up until four in the morning and sleep until two. They start every day with a pilates class and spend hours binge drinking while arguing. All they have is time," She said, folding a fluffy pink blanket.
"Sorry to interrupt your little watch party, but I'm home," House said.
"We're one episode away from the tell all, you have to let us finish the season," Wilson stated, folding up a baby onsie.
"My god, what happened to you?" House muttered, kicking off his shoes and laying down in the bed beside his wife.
"This is the best show to ever be invented," Wilson said, gesturing to the television.
"Sure it is. Wake up me up when it's over," House said, crossing his arms and settling back into the pillows as he closed his eyes.
Things had been complicated, but they were figuring it out and taking things one day at a time. The baby was growing and Y/N hadn't had any bleeding since that first incident.
She had a magnificent support system around her and she leaned on them in her time of need.
House may not have been everyone's favorite person, but Y/N was. She had always been kind and everyone who met her loved her.
It was shocking that he was the one she wound up falling in love with but you can't help it sometimes. House loved her and he was grateful that her and the baby were alright.

This is for the strikers everywhere since I'm nowhere near a picket line. This is the least I can do:
I am an EMT in Florida, one of the hottest states in the country on a regular basis. These are things you can do to protect yourself from the heat
1. Water
Water is great, your body needs it to live. You can go longer without food than you can without water. It's vital. If you become too dehydrated you can lapse into something called Hypovolemic shock which is the most dangerous form of shock because, usually, by the time you realize something is wrong, you're already in a bad position.
When you sweat, you're not just losing water. You're also losing salt, potassium, chloride, magnesium, & calcium. To combat this, you should drink something with electrolytes.
You can also eat a banana in order to avoid cramping that can occur with the loss of potassium. You don't want to be the one doing the Charley Horse Hustle on the line when people have phone cameras. You can also eat fruit and veg with high water content. They helps.
A word of caution about ice water. I know the idea of a big bottle of ice water sounds great when you're sweating your balls off on the line but NO! That can be dangerous. Your body temperature is up due to the heat. You chug a bottle of ice water like you used to do with Smirnoff Ice in college, you'll regret it. Ice water will cause your body temperature to drop which fraks up your homeostasis. You can experience stomach craps, fainting, and, on some weird occasions, cardiac arrest. Face planting on the pavement isn't cute.
One way you CAN use ice water safely is by soaking a t-shirt or towel and putting it on your head to help cool you off. Also, cold rags around the wrists can also cool you down. You've seen construction workers with the t-shirts on their heads? This is why.
2. Whole body
If you get blisters on your feet, you need to treat them. Also, don't force pop them, you're just asking for trouble. When they rupture, they need to be cleaned with soap and water (no alcohol or peroxide) and protected. Band-Aids won't really help here.
Band-Aids can easily slip off and give bacteria a chance to move in and really get gross. Liquid bandage is the better option. It's waterproof but it does sting when you put it on so be warned.
If you experience muscle cramps on the line, you need to deal with them. This is your bodies way of telling you something is wrong. Sit down, drink something. Stretching before picketing can also help prevent them. Let's be honest, as writers, we sit. A LOT.
Going from a cave dwelling hermit to bright sunlight and exercise is going to piss your entire system off. Icy Hot and hot baths will be your friend.
3. Dehydration warning signs.
Muscle cramps
light headed
headaches
feeling very thirsty
dark urine
urinating less often
feeling tired
dry mouth, lips, or tongue
skin tenting
confusion

Hey, so this isn't meant as advice for you, this is me asking if you have experience with trying a bit of advice I heard, and what your experience was with it? Basically I was told that two things that can help with migraines is soaking your feet in hot/warm water (possibly with ginger?) and to do breathing exercises where you exhale more than you inhale. Have you heard this advice before? Did you try it and if so, did it work for you? I get migraines pretty rarely but it's always so debilitating when they do happen and "go somewhere quiet and dark for 2 days" isn't always viable but is the only reliable method Ive had so far, but Id be down to try something like this if it has any validity to it?
I have tried them, and they have never worked for me. Alternating ice and heat directly over the pain helps me more (especially heat over my "trigger" eye), but usually, just so I can try to sleep through the pain, otherwise I'm going to be awake the whole 20+ hours, and that's never fun.
Your mileage may vary, and tbh, it's worth trying as they are fairly easy to do -- and who knows, you might get lucky and have "easy*" migraines that respond to deep breathing and soaking your feet.
For what it's worth, I've heard some people get more out of the foot-soaking thing by also putting a cold cloth/ice pack on the back of their neck. It helps aid with vasodilation and vasoconstriction, which can sometimes be a factor in migraines.
Aside from correcting my atypical binocular vision disorder with vision therapy and corrective tinted prisms, the biggest help I've had for my migraines has been from taking B2 supplements as recommended by my neurologist.
There's some evidence to show that taking 400mg of b2 for 3+ months can help lessen migraine intensity and perhaps even prevent them. Supposedly it works better if you also take magnesium.
I used to just take magnesium which is a common migraine "hack," but it never did much for me. Adding in the high dose of B2 was what finally made a difference. My migraines are still 20+ hours, but they're less painful, and I can be somewhat functional with them.
Obligatory: Talk to your doctor before starting any new medications, including supplements.

The rain pattered lightly against the window as Y/N slumped deeper into the couch. A plush blanket was draped over their lap, and a heating pad rested against their lower abdomen, though it felt like it was doing absolutely nothing. Every few minutes, Y/N would shift, trying to find a position that hurt less, but the cramps were relentless. They let out a frustrated groan and flopped back into the cushions.
The front door creaked open, and Y/N barely glanced up as Peter stepped inside. He was wearing a hoodie, the hem soaked from the downpour outside, and he carried a tote bag that looked ready to burst.
“Hey,” he said softly, kicking off his shoes and setting the bag on the floor. “How’s my favorite person doing?”
Y/N let out a weak laugh. “Horrible. I think my uterus is trying to murder me.”
Peter’s face softened with concern, and he immediately crossed the room to kneel beside the couch. “Murder is illegal, you know,” he teased, brushing a hand over their forehead. “I’ll have to have a word with your uterus about this.”

Peter reached for the heating pad, inspecting it like it was a malfunctioning gadget. “Is this even working? It feels… lukewarm.”
“It’s fine,” Y/N said, but Peter was already standing.
“Nope, not on my watch. I’ll warm it up for you.” He darted into the kitchen, and Y/N heard the hum of the microwave a moment later. When he returned, he handed them the freshly heated pad and tucked the blanket securely around them.
“Better?” he asked, sitting close enough that their shoulders touched.
“A little,” Y/N admitted, leaning their head on his shoulder. “You always know how to make me feel better, you know that?”
Peter grinned. “It’s a gift. Also, I did some research, and apparently, magnesium helps with cramps, so…” He reached into the bag again, pulling out a banana and holding it up like it was a rare artifact. “Banana?”
Y/N giggled. “You’re such a dork.”
“Yeah, but I’m your dork,” he said proudly, peeling the banana and offering it to them. “Come on, just a bite. For science.”
Rolling their eyes but secretly touched by his effort, Y/N took a small bite. “Happy?”
“Ecstatic,” Peter said, leaning back and watching them with a satisfied smile. “Anything else I can do? Want me to rub your back? Tell you a story? Make J. Jonah Jameson trending on TikTok again?”
Y/N snorted. “How would you even do that?”
“Easy,” Peter said, a mischievous glint in his eye. “I could edit together a compilation of all his ‘Spider-Menace’ rants. People love a good meme.”
They laughed, the sound easing some of the tension in their body. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Ridiculously in love with you,” he quipped, reaching out to gently rub their back. His hands were warm and steady, and Y/N sighed, the motion soothing even as their cramps persisted.
“Thank you for being here,” Y/N said after a moment, their voice soft. “I know it’s not exactly fun dealing with me when I’m like this.”
“Hey,” Peter said firmly, his hand pausing mid-rub. “Don’t talk like that. You’re not a burden, Y/N. You’re a human being, and you’re allowed to have bad days—period cramps or not. Besides, this is what we signed up for, right? Being there for each other, no matter what?”
Y/N blinked, their throat tightening with emotion. “You’re too good to me.”
“I disagree,” Peter said, resuming the soothing motion on their back. “You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, so if I can make your day even a little bit better, then I’m doing my job right.”
They leaned into him, their heart swelling with love. “You’re going to make me cry.”
“Hey, no crying allowed unless it’s because of a rom-com or happy tears,” Peter said, brushing a thumb under their eye even though no tears had fallen yet. “Speaking of rom-coms… movie night?”
Y/N nodded eagerly. “Only if I get to pick.”
“Deal,” Peter said, grabbing the remote and handing it to them. “But if you pick that one movie where the dog dies, I’m walking out.”
Y/N laughed, scrolling through the options. “No sad dog movies, I promise.”
As they settled on a cheesy romantic comedy, Peter grabbed the ice cream and two spoons, setting it on the coffee table. He propped a pillow behind Y/N’s back and adjusted the blanket so it covered both of them.
“You know,” he said, nudging their shoulder, “if I had superpowers that could fix this, I’d do it in a heartbeat. But until then, I’ll just keep bringing you snacks and rubbing your back.”
“You’re doing more than enough,” Y/N said, squeezing his hand. “Seriously, Pete. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Good thing you’ll never have to find out,” he replied, his voice light but sincere. “Now, let’s watch this movie, eat some ice cream, and pretend that outside world doesn’t exist for a while.”
Y/N smiled, resting their head on his shoulder again. Despite the cramps and the fatigue, they felt a little lighter knowing Peter was by their side. With him, even the worst days felt a little more manageable.

It was supposed to be a simple case. Get there, find the source, capture it, get out. It really didn't seem like something to make a big deal out of. Yet here you were, desperately digging the ground for multiple sources alongside George while Lucy and Lockwood are trying to fight off the wailing type twos surrounding your lot.
"I've never wanted Kipps and his crew to show up more than right now." You laugh, a hint of worry sprinkled upon it. George snorts and you grin at the sound, your hands steadily guiding the shovel that's digging the ground, not a spot on your body left that appears clean. You feel small droplets of rain start to drop down and the waters of panic lap at your feet, your heartbeat echoing in your ears. The possibility of you not making it out in one piece tonight just became very real. If the rain continues, you won't be able to see the ghosts well enough to fight them off.
As if on cue, your shovel hits something wet, hard and slippery. Bones. You shout for George and leave him to deal with the sources, hauling yourself up the muddy hole to go and help your friends.
Your gaze settles on Lockwood. He seems to be doing fine at first glaze, but as you look closer, you see that he's limping. Why on Earth would he be limping? You dont have enough time to wallow on that because he falls, his rapier flying just a few inches too far for him to grasp.
You shout for him and without thinking, grab a magnesium flare off your belt, throwing it somewhere in the direction of the ghost. The explosion would've knocked you off your feet but your mind is locked on him, his lanky frame, that now on the ground looks small, fragile even.
"Lockwood, Locky are you alright?" You ask, dropping down on to your knees next to him, gently cradling his face in your hands. He groggily opens his eyes and you practically sob, pulling him close to you. His brown curls tickle your face but you only hold him tighter, smiling to yourself as you feel his arms slowly making their way around you.
"Fucks sake, you scared me. Scared me so bad. Why were you limping? You could have been ghost touched." You murmur, pressing a kiss to his head after every word. You don't give him time to answer before pulling away, cupping his cheeks and resting your forehead against his. His eyes flutter shut, dark lashes brushing against pale cheeks. How does he always manage to look so breathtaking?
"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry. I messed up a manoeuvre and slipped on the grass, it was rather stupid of me." He apologises, but you only hold him tighter.
George finishes up securing the sources with Lucy and all five of you start the journey back to Portland Row, soaking wet and covered in mud, awaiting the box of Arif's donuts that are sitting on the kitchen table.
You exit the steaming bathroom, a pink towel wrapped around your upper body, soaking wet hair leaving a path of tiny droplets all the way to your and Lucy's room. The ginger girl is fast asleep under the mountain of covers, soft snores emitting from her. You turn off her bedside lamp, darkness swallowing the room. You're used to the darkness, the way it disables all your senses at first. You pay it no mind and slip into a grey 'The Rolling Stones' t-shirt, rough drying your hair with the towel before disregarding it somewhere.
You don't go straight to bed. Something is crippling inside you, chewing on your heart. You leave your room and walk downstairs, stopping in front of the library door. Light is bleeding through the cracks all around the door, and you instantly know who's awake in there at this hour. It's him, always him.
You knock on the door a few times and twist the door knob, stepping into the dimly lit room. Lockwood is sitting there; his hair damp, his sleep shirt a little soaked as well. He has a book in his lap and it looks like he's trying to read but something is bothering him.
"Hey, you. I wanted to check up on you. Are you okay?" You ask, your voice barely above a whisper. He sighs softly and closes the book, putting it away before patting on the spot next to him, signalling for you to come and sit. You do exactly that and sit down next to him, looking a little worried.
He's warm. You can feel the heat emitting from him, his body. Its heating up your cheeks, tinting them pink.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm alright. Just shaken I suppose. Felt like I was looking death himself right in the eye for a second there." He chuckles, but there isn't any amusement laced in it. You don't reply to him, you just take his hand in yours and lace your fingers together.
Nothing else is said throughout the night. When George finds you two in the morning, he's laying on top of you, his head on your chest and his arms around your waist. You're holding him close to you, your grip unrelenting.

oh god i’m such a nerd where do i start
my favorite element changes frequently but at the moment it’s probably chromium. generally i’m a transition metals girl over anything else (i primarily work in inorganic, that’s what im trying to get a phd in) so any metal i’m a pretty big fan of. chromium is just the primary one i’m working with in my lab right now. i’m using inductive heating to make chromium metal organic frameworks and it’s very very cool because i am very very lame. the chromium compound i work with (chromium nitrate nonahydrate) is also really pretty so (shown below). i also just really really miss working in lab. ive been just so ungodly busy with grad school applications and finals and family holiday and band needed me to do a bunch of stuff even on break so i haven’t had much time to do chem outside of classes which makes me a little sad

for reactions i think grignard reactions are really really cool. for one grignard reagents will blow the hell up if they touch water, some even being set off by moisture in the air so that’s just very fun! and even though it’s an organic reaction it still involves more than the basic oxygen carbon nitrogen bitches cause it needs a magnesium to work! and magnesium is dope!! also like chemically it’s a super important mechanism since it forms a new carbon carbon bond. i also obviously like any inorganic reaction bc duh that’s my field but in general inorganic reactions are far more likely than organic to have interesting color changes! i remember in like honors chem sophomore year of highschool we did an experiment where we soaked wood in metal complex solutions and the pieces all burned different colors, and that’s just fuckin cool.
now that i seen ive written a goddamn essay i’m gonna cut it there because i could legit go on for hours 😭 thank you for letting me chemical yap its one of my favorite things to do

So it could be pretty gruesome if people develop sudden clotting disorders and start bleeding out all of their orifices. I saw this with the 2004(?) SARS patients who were in total organ failure when working in a long term subacute hospital. People will be so freaked out.

I've been using Epson salts for almost a year in a 30' hot soak
almost every other day.
Epson 2-3C
Baking soda 1/2-1 C
Borax 1/4-1/2 C
When I drain the tub the following day there was very fine gray "silt"
on the tub bottom even though I'd activated the jets prior to draining the tub.
Two months ago I decided to try magnesium chloride crystals/flakes 2 C instead of epson (MgSO4).
The silt was black! After about 5-6 soaks it began to clear.. so I think lots of graphene/bots (?) had been sucked out with the ionization of the water.
Simultaneously, we'd just started using the fenbendazole 222mg daily to kill the bot producing chimera.
Something is working as my skin no longer burns with the solar flares. Praise god! 🙏🏽
