Anthony Lockwood had never really believed in mermaids. Until he saw her.

Freedivers Lockwood and George stay in the same place on the coast each summer, but this time they’re not there to relax. Fishing nets have been banned for years because of their impacts on the environment and local marine life — no local fishermen use them anymore for the same reason. When a turtle washes up on the beach after being caught in a net, the boys take it upon themselves to find out who’s responsible. It turns out they’re not the only ones interested in getting justice for the sea creatures affected.

Enter Lucy Carlyle, anonymous environmental activist and local mermaid.

This summer might turn out to be more eventful than they thought.

I’m pretty satisfied with what I’ve got going with Lucy, but Lockwood’s face shape is still giving me trouble. And his hair but that’s a generalized problem for me. Let’s also ignore that I can’t draw shoes.

George is fine though. He’s pretty easy to get the essence of.

best change was giving Lucy her own pre-canon codependent homoerotic teenage friendship. I love the books but she needed a tragic sapphic backstory and girl best friend it gave her the character development she needed from the get go. get that not like other girls hating on other girls shit away from me she needs girl friends. girlfriends. btw.

worst change from the books was having kipps ask out Lucy btw. sorry that’s their lwk enemy who was reformed and now hangs out with them for community service lwk communal crush who they all hate lwk communal rival lwk the dick friend of a cool older brother but the brother doesn’t exist so they’re in weird frenemy non acknowledgement territory. he can’t date her he’s too busy grieving and being a pathetic loser and being morphed into a slutty father figure against his will by the narrative

just thinking about how Lockwood & Co is the perfect home for Lucy and Lucy is the perfect new member of L&Co because not everyone is going to be willing to join up with two other children, ones who are adamant that adults aren’t necessary, they’re better off without them—but Lucy, who has been failed by all the adults who were supposed to protect her, all the systems, built by adults, that were supposed to protect her, is made for that cause—and it’s no small miracle that she’s welcomed in by these boys when so many adults shut their doors in her face

Cot3 School Fencing Competitions AU

Lucy’s new to this whole ‘Public Schools Fencing Championships’ thing. She’s used to small school competitions against other places in her area, not going up against every other school in the country. She also isn’t used to dealing with cocky guys in the year above thinking they know everything there is to know about fencing… that’s where Lockwood comes in. They never have to fence each other for the competition itself, but George finds himself refereeing the two of them anyway.
