Embracing Valentine’s Day as a Single Gal: How to combat the fear of loneliness

For the most part, Valentine’s has become well known as lovers day; the day to celebrate you and your partner. While many will say it’s not only for the lovers and you can also celebrate family and friends (which I definitely agree with!), there still is that fear and insecurity of feeling alone creeping in, especially when it seems like everyone else but you are cozying up with their significant other on social media.

With one month until Valentine's Day, I started thinking about what I was going to do. I used to be anxious about it after my relationship ended; I just wanted to get through the day as quickly as possible. It shouldn’t be a big deal but it can be hard to rationalize it in the moment. However, overtime by trial and error, I’m finally in a place where being single on Valentine’s Day isn’t as daunting as I thought it was. Rather, instead of extending my energy outside and seeking external validation to mediate my insecurity, I’ve decided to give myself the love that I’m looking for and channeling the fear into peace.

And the best way to do it? Treat yourself.

Here’s a couple ways you can this year for Valentine’s if you’re spending it alone:

Buy yourself flowers.

Instead of waiting to receive flowers, give yourself the flowers you deserve because the world didn’t end when the relationship did, and you made it through when you thought you couldn’t.

Order your favorite food/Make your favorite meal.

Food is a girl’s best friend! Make that comfort meal or order that mouthwatering dish that you can’t get off your mind. 

Dress up!

I didn’t believe dressing up could make a difference, but it does! It doesn’t have to be a complete full glam if you’re not feeling it, but give yourself a little TLC by doing your skincare routine, styling your hair and maybe wearing the cutest PJs because this day is about you and loving yourself for who you are in this moment. 

Put on your playlist while getting ready and dance!

Having music while getting ready can help you block out the world just for a little bit and give yourself the time to relax and enjoy yourself before heading out!

Have a sweet dessert!

Cupcakes, ice cream, cake or cookies –  have a little sweet treat for that serotonin boost!

Watch your favorite movie!

Movie day or move night – it’s time to switch off the world and embrace your own little space with the films that never fail to make you laugh and smile.

i have so much to say and no one to listen, i however hear everything. i hear the cries for help of those i love, the crackling sound their hearts make breaking a little more everyday. all i am is a bystander. i can’t stand powerlessness. all i want is to protect you but so many things stand in my way. uncontrollable things; i have to let you feel and witness your pain. because that’s how life goes. i’m just scared and i wish i had someone in my life i could relay on. just for a moment forget about what i have to do knowing all the people i love are here with me and safe. just for a little while, go back to our garden and play innocently in the grass in blissful ignorance. just one last time. please. i promise

Big update!!!

Your girl got her first job!

It is honestly a little disorienting in terms of my previous routine which had unwavering hours of focussed studying. The best I'm able to do now is study in bits and pieces.
