musings on baeddelism
i don't agree with the common critique of baeddelism, as it relies on a distorted conception of the ideology. for simplicity's sake, let's just define baeddelism as the fusion of transfeminism and radical feminism, which believes transmisogyny is the apex of patriarchy, as it's the clearest shared target between misogyny & queerphobia. most critiques of it come from what's referred to as TMRAs (also transphobic cis women who're upset about not being the center of the world, but ignoring them). the argument begins as the baeddel suggests trans men are agents of misogyny (patriarchy of course fundamentally shapes standards of manhood), who're a sugar-coated bullet, due to rhetoric of experience with misogyny preventing repetition, this paired with a strong distaste for the very relatively privileged cis mainstream feminism leads many leads many baeddels to also dislike most cis women as. this leads TMRAs to the very superficial & bad faith suggestion that we (do keep in mind "baeddel" is a reclaimed slur, which they really shouldn't be using in their tirades) are reskinned TERFs, due to believing there's a bad gender, alternatively TMRAs make the even more absurd suggestion that baeddels believe in AFAB privilege & general AMAB oppression. i think baeddelism's current ebb unfortunate, as it's the highest development of the classical radical feminism's (the era before it was co-opted by the far right) social-constructivism

i wish every woman could experience being in a true female only space at least once. a space away from men in a secluded area. cooking, eating, dancing, creating, swimming, existing only among women. no need for make up, clothing that’s not comfortable and practical, no bras, no shaving, no artificial femininity. if you wanna walk around naked you can be, no one’s gonna stare at you, no fear of a man sitting in the bush filming or masturbating. no body shaming or pointing out any part of your body. no pressure to look perfect. no need to look perfect. just existing and being enough, living without fear and in harmony with our bodies and nature.

Calling Lesbians' attraction to vaginas a mere genital "preference" erases the sheer violence behind corrective rape of millions of sapphic women. I do not just "dislike" dick, I am physically incapable of being attracted to it. My allure to the female genitilia is not a choice, it's my biological reality. Dismissal of same-sex attraction as a choice reinforces the homophobic ideology that attractions can be altered and also paves the way for discrimination. One cannot opt out of their sexuality, they are always born with it.

the way men talk about women they find unattractive is both enraging and idiotic.
she doesn’t look like a man because of something that she naturally has. a muscular woman doesn’t look like a man because men don’t own being burly. if it can grow naturally on a woman’s body then it’s not a man thing. if she can obtain it naturally then it’s not a man thing.
women look like that. they can look like that. men are just so used to seeing women bald and bleached and weak. women can be hairy and brawny. if we lived in the wild without current technology most women would look like that. men just aren’t attracted to women’s natural state. they want warm and breathing sex toys built like hentai anime girls. it’s honestly pathetic how heterosexual men only like women when they’re dolled up and artificial.

the seperation of lesbians and gay men is a travesty. "why are there so many historic gay bars and only like a handful of lesbian bars in the whole country" why are being gay and lesbian not the same thing in this context. you dont need to fuck everyone at the bar and it is a problem that needs to be addressed if these spaces arent mutually hospitable. and this applies to most gay/lesbian spaces imo
#its just wrong to assume gay spaces arent for women and if any gay men are reinforcing that it needs to be stopped lol#but a lot of it seems like very gender-biased willing exclusion bc they dont wanna associate with men#which um. grow up to you too#gender segregation is just evil period#other than intimate circumstances if you refuse to hang around people you perceive as x gender#its a problem you need to work on it's not just a right you've earned#now yes of course there are able to be specific cases of bars that are more explicitly lesbian or gay#but assuming if a bar is a ''gay bar'' its just for gay men is a fallacy... do you even go to these places?#''buh buh buh if theres a drag show drag is insulting to women cis and trans'' its not. address your revulsion#i know i come across harsh toned im actually more being flabbergasted that weve got to this point rather than saying hey you in particular#its just so strange to have grew up in the gay climate i did where the only lesbian flag was just lipstick lesbian and the girls didnt like#if you assumed every lesbian fell under it and to just use rainbow#and now people act like gay and lesbian arent synonyms because of gender seperatism. which disproportionally hurts members of the lgbt#community because they are more likely to be gnc lol#also a lot of individual opinions you just see the terf hand guiding.#and i HATE THE TOOTHPASTE FLAG!!#no pink flag for girls so blue flag for boys get the fuck out of my face#i dont want to superficially share my experiences with gay men i need community with gay PEOPLE

I'm sick and tired of bisexual and hetero women making lesbians out to be the bad guys when it comes to female seperatism. It is literally part of the damn movement. Sorry you have issues following or even understanding your own movement, but I will not apologize for pointing that shit out.
There are hundreds of hetero and bi women in other countries who can and do see past their own desires for the sake of the movement that they truly believe in.
And jesus stop comparing dating your own oppressor to lesbians dating other women. Like I dunno if you have noticed but lesbians don't date men, of course female seperatism is gunna look different for lesbians. Maybe it is even easier for us. But lesbians not being able to date each other in the past is NOT the same as osa women being asked not to date their own damn oppressor! Are you gyns even ducking hearing yourself???
Honestly it feels like most "radfem" gyns aren't even radfem. When they are confronted with their own shit they react just like TRA's & TQ+ & extreme right wingers.
I don't care what anyone says. I just don't. My lesbian friends always have something to show when the topic of lesbophobia in radfem spaces comes up. Always. I do too. I see this shit all the time myself. I will hope radblr is different but I'm not getting my hopes up.
If you wanna worship dick, go and do that. But don't pretend like you are a full on hardcore radfem when real hardcore radfems leave their dick worshipping ways behind them, no matter how much they wanna worship dick. It's not like we can stop you.
Radical feminism is a way of life, an ideology. Ideals to structure your life after. Female seperatism is one of them.
No one said you have to follow all the ideas of radical feminism but female seperatism is a pretty ducking big one. Calling it oppression is lunacy and complaining when someone brings it up is pretty ducking stupid.
The way osa women cry wolf... Smh. Especially considering that osa women are the ones who came up with the whole "female separatism" shit... Right during the time when they excluded lesbians from the movement... Guess some things never change.

Every time I see words like "fakebian" and "transtrender" I have to fight so many urges to start a fight
Any terms like that but those two especially give me the ick as someone whose both trans (esp since I'm genderfluid bc nonbinary people get targeted w that word a lot) and a lesbian

"identity is complex and people can identify with labels that don't make sense to you" and "lesbian as a specific term that excludes attraction to men matters to many lesbians" can both coexist I think. i don't want lesbian to be an umbrella term but i also don't want to like attack bi lesbians who are also just surviving in a complicated world. my lesbianism will always be a relief for me in that I no longer had to consider men as being in my options and the term lesbian will always mean that relief for me is all. we have different needs from the terms.
(t/-erfs dni, nonbinary is included in every orientation, etc)

Don’t really need a dude to tell women what should make them feel “safe”. Also you forgot to conveniently mention that women didn’t have access to public restrooms like men did. Most public restrooms up until a point were male only and the proliferation of women’s only facilities came about as women entered the workforce.
Sex segregation for train cars, in places like Japan, are a direct result from rape happening to women by males. They literally separate them because men can’t stop raping women.
You intentionally mischaracterize why women want separate facilities away from men. At the end of the day, it’s to avoid abuse, harassment, and to maintain privacy. You’re low-key a dumbass.
My dear lgbt+ kids,
If you listened to transphobes, you might assume that the whole concept of “separate toilets for women” was designed with women’s safety in mind - and it was, but not in the way you might think.
Gender-segregated bathrooms emerged in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century (so around the time women were entering the workforce in greater numbers in the US and Europe). But the idea behind that wasn’t rooted in empowerment or feminism:
Women were seen as fragile and weak. Public spaces (and especially higher education or the workforce) were considered unsuitable for women. So, it was believed women needed separate “restrooms”, assuming they might faint due to their naturally "delicate" health.
Separate bathrooms limited women’s access to education, work, and public life. This may seem counterintuitive at first glance, so let me explain: women’s restrooms were often located inconveniently… subtly discouraging women from staying in public spaces for extended periods. This was not about women’s safety, but about men wanting control over women.
In Victorian ideals, women were supposed to be modest and “pure”, and this meant that they had to occupy distinctly different spaces than men . Separate bathrooms were a way of reinforcing their “proper” roles in society, emphasizing that their “real” place is in the home rather than in public or professional spaces.
The argument that we need “women only” bathrooms to protect women is not rooted in history or evidence. They were born out of sexism, not safety.
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad
