I hope it's not rude to ask (you can reply in private if you wish), but I am very curious on one thing. I tried to research your blog a bit but haven't figured that out. Are you trying to live of only things you can garden/find in the forest and only things you can make yourself I assume? Is that bc of some complicated situation or is that bc of your dedication to some live style/idea? I think it's both admirable and interesting whatever the reason you want to live that way, and your posts are very nice read, especially to city-stuck but nature-longing reader, so it's just my curiosity.

My situation is a bit complicated, but it comes down to this: I'm on my own, no family support, I'm in poverty, and I'm chronically ill. I dream to leave the city and live in the wilderness, where I can have my own garden, and make my own everything. I'm very stressed out by the city and long to live in a place where there is no male contamination (pollution, noises, construction, destruction of nature, violence, sexual violence, oppression of women), so I could live peacefully!

I am only able to work part-time so saving up for buying my own land is going very slow, but I am determined to use this time to learn as much as possible about survival in nature. That's why I'm trying to learn everything, all of the plants, preservation methods, foraging, gardening, herbalism, basketry, soap-making, shoe-making, making threads and fixing things, creating stuff out of natural resources - because the second I get where I'm heading, I will not have internet, I will not be able to look everything up in a second. I want to be ready. I want to come there and observe and know everything, what I can eat, what can I preserve, what I can make from resources immediately around me, how to build my own house and where to place it, how to make a greenhouse or a conservatory, how to build a fireplace, all of that knowledge will be vital.

I'm not against relying on capitalism when I have no other choice, like for flour and oil, I currently have no means of producing those, so I do buy them. I think in the future as well, if I'm sick I would go and buy medicine, if I can't make it on my own (which often I cannot).

I'm not following any kind of lifestyle, just trying to ensure my own survival the best I can. I also love sharing whatever I learn because I noticed a lot of the information got lost for this generation, a lot of survival skills are no longer passed down and knowing even a little bit of it can be incredibly helpful for survival in capitalism. I want everyone to feel encouraged to try, it's great for mental health as well.

I also get great feedback from people who know better than me! I learned so much just from comments and replies that is a treasured source of wisdom for me.

I feel like this world wants us to be as helpless as possible, as little equipped with knowledge as possible; not knowing how something is made, how it could be made from nature, what worth it actually has or what has been sacrificed or destroyed in order for it to exist. It has us making uninformed choices, unaware of the impact we have on the earth and the climate. I think we deserve to know all of it. I'm interested and curious in all of it.

I've been interested in survival in nature since I was a kid, and when it became an option to pursue it, I wholeheartedly did. It fills my heart so much to make something or to build my own pantry from scratch, or feeding myself easily during summer because of the abundance of produce! I feel like if everyone knew how wonderful this is, the store would no longer feel so convenient or so reliable; it's on the soil that we rely, it's always nature that all these things come from.

Listen I absolutely love the Tree Lady/Blacksmith! She's wonderful and cool

However, I do feel that we get a bunch of info and lore that contradicts a bunch of things or starts to make other info fall apart

Namely, the getting through the door thing.

In the 9th episode, the Cat's explanation that Neo can't go through because she has nothing to go back to made enough sense to me.

Ok, sure! Perhaps Afterans cannot leave? Or, perhaps the Cat can't because they are important here? Who knows, but that's an interesting rule! Cool!

Then the Blacksmith explains about the Brother Gods and how they were given a door to leave, and the door would be open for them to return whenever they like. Including, any of their creations.

So then.... why couldn't the Cat leave??? My best guess is the Gods made it so that the Cat couldn't leave, so that they can stay and do their job for them. But that seems cruel (though, making a creature to take over your job for you and to take on everyone else's burdens but never have it's own burdens eased is also super cruel)

The Cat just wanted to go explore and find out why they were abandoned, how is that wrong?

Also, that "you can't get through the door without attachments to another world" thing seemed quite arbitrary afterward. Yes, the group have reasons to go back, but it just doesn't seem to matter anymore after the Cat is.... dealt with

And side note: does this now mean that the Tree/Blacksmith is THE God of this universe? As Ever After seems to be the origins of everything now. I know it seems the Blacksmith isn't necessarily the actual Tree, but still. She's quite important

And why didn't anyone ask her how to deal with Salem????? Is that not important?? Doesn't hurt to try, right?? Worst she can say is "That's for you to find out" or something...

I was thinking about how massive discord is recently. Like, I'd guess a solid 90% of the surface web is now discord.

If you ever wonder why most sites feel dead nowadays, its mostly bc everyone is on discord. Discord has effectively contributed to ruining a lot of communities other sites should've had.

Which led me to thinking about what'd happen if discord went down. How that'd probably be a good thing and bring life to the other areas of the internet.

But also how much would be lost. I can use the wayback machine for a lot of sites, but I can't use it for discord. Discord is too closed off. If anything went down, there's no way it could be archived unless users actively archive their stuff on their own.

When considering places for archiving music, I had to rule out discord because it's just... not permanent. It's not accessible. It's not a viable archiving place. It's just a chatting site/app akin to skype that got too big.

Discord isn't meant to be everything.

If possible, please consider branching out to other sites if you value anything you typically put in discord, esp smaller sites, they really need it.

And/or look into how to make your own site.

It CAN be lost, it WILL be lost! You must consider Discord as a part of the Core Internet, controlled by one company that hosts the servers.

I thought it was impressive at first that it replaced IRC, but now I am horrified. If the company behind Discord went under today, how many friends would you lose?

In Ghost’s eyes, the first time you smiled up at him was the moment you became his and his alone.

So what if everyone apart from you knew it?

Didn’t make it any less of a fact, as far as he was concerned.

Still though, he wanted to learn more about just who his pretty little wife was, including anything that might make letting you know about your marriage a little easier. And so like the good soldier he is, he goes about it as though it were a reconnaissance mission.

He asks you how you take your coffees and teas, holding his breath as he watches you take the first sip of whichever drink he’s made you that day, pride swelling in his chest when you tell him it’s perfect, even better than when you make it.

The first time he’d done so, your eyes widened in surprise when he put his large, gloved hands over yours where they were wrapped around the mug, leaning forward and bringing the rim to his lips where he took a sip for himself, eyes locked with yours. You were unsure of what to think or say, but he apparently decided for you that this was okay, returning the warm drink to your mouth where he encouraged you to take another sip.

You figured that it was alright, he did make the tea for you after all, right?

You even laughed when he started only serving you in a mug with ‘Mrs.’ printed across the side, certain that it hadn’t been in any of the common room’s cupboards before.

He eyes the book peeking out of your bag one morning as you tuck it away, purchasing his own copy the very same day, curious to know what you like reading. You’re pleasantly surprised, if not a tad confused, when you find the next two books in the trilogy sat atop your desk soon after, a small note written in chicken scratch lain on top reads ‘To : Wife’. He’ll make a point of commenting on the novel if he sees you holding it, slipping in tid bits of information to impress you show he’s read it as well, likes the same things you like.

He’ll joke about how the food on the dining hall is always subpar, trying to casually find out what you like eating, subtly pulling out his phone and typing anything new into his notes app where he’s been keeping track of all your likes and dislikes. He just wants to get things right with you, be good for you, prove he can be the husband you need. You’re already perfect in his eyes, his sweet little soulmate who just doesn’t know it yet.

Though this was the first military base you’d ever worked on, you couldn’t recall anyone having ever warned you about the way Lieutenants apparently like to haze the new hires, never mind the fact that everyone else was apparently in on it.

No one bats an eye when you go to take the empty seat next to him in a briefing, and he wraps his strong arms around you to instead plop you down onto his muscular thighs, carrying on with the task at hand as though this is perfectly normal and professional. Even the Captain hardly glances at the interaction, so you figure it’s okay, some strange form of team bonding?

Not a soul comments on the way the Lieutenant insists on being the one to cut up your food and feed you bites during meals in the dining hall, pretending as though they don’t hear him telling you about how “my wife works hard enough, don’t need to be liftin’ a finger wit’ me around, love.”

They know to move out of the way if you’re approaching a closed door, knowing if the Lieutenant is anywhere near, he’ll be rushing to open the door for you before you can even attempt to do it yourself.

Even Soap has stopped complaining aloud and only rolls his eyes when Ghost drops anything and everything he’s doing- whether it’s spotting the Sergeant in the gym, being out on a morning run, hell even being in the middle of a shower- to send you a good morning text at six o clock on the dot. Every. Single. Morning.

No, you never exactly anticipated this sort of a running gag from a hardened military base, but you’re not exactly complaining either.

Not when you find your heart fluttering every time your fake work husband dotes on you like he really would marry you at the drop of a hat.

Besides, it’s all just playful, innocent fun, right?

Especially when everyone begins to apparently forget your name and instead refers to you only as Mrs Riley.

And when the Captain tells you that your requested time off for a honeymoon has been approved, something which you definitely don’t remember requesting, well that’s all just fun too, right?
