...Is Love, Sweet Love (Part II)
Tumblr media
Summary: Eight months later, (Y/N) and her daughter Molly have settled in well at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, with (Y/N) teaching a Classical Literature class and six-year-old Molly taking courses while learning more about her telepathic skills. Charles, having fallen head over heels for the school's new professor, debates whether or not to act upon his feelings.
Pairing: Charles Xavier X F!Reader
Word Count: 5.3k
Warnings/Disclaimers: None
A/N: Yes, I know, it's slightly unhinged to write a Part II to a one-shot that I published over 2 years ago, but I couldn't get this idea out of my head and here's what I came up with! Again, "What The World Needs Now Is Love" by Jackie DeShannon partially inspired this fic, so you should totally give it a listen if you haven't heard it before :)
…Is Love, Sweet Love May 1980 Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, Westchester (Previous Chapter)
Despite living in his family’s mansion for the majority of his life and spending countless hours of his childhood eagerly exploring its sprawling grounds, Charles Xavier hadn’t truly grown to appreciate the tranquility that the estate provided until he’d re-started Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. The sight of young mutants happily playing on the playground and partaking in group sports without feeling the need to hide their differences away brought a smile to Charles’ face, and the cheerful laughter of his students paired with the beautiful spring sunshine inspired him to once again enjoy his lunch outside with a good book…although, it was difficult to deny that he spent far more time listening in on Professor (Y/L/N)’s nearby Classical Literature class than actually reading his novel.
“Can anyone tell me why the characters of King Lear worship the pagan gods and not any form of Christianity?” (Y/N), who was sitting cross-legged on the grass in front of her small class, arched a brow as she surveyed the silent group of teenagers before her. “C’mon, guys, you know this. We went over the background of the play during our last lecture, and I seem to remember some of you even taking notes…” After a moment, a timid hand went up from the red-headed girl in the front and (Y/N) smiled. “Yes, Jean?”
“The play is set in ancient Britain, long before the arrival of Christianity.”
“Very good, Jean!” Jean Grey’s shoulders relaxed and beside her, her friend Jubilee gave her an enthusiastic thumbs-up. “Now, why would Shakespeare choose to set this play in this specific time period? Think about the time period in which Shakespeare lived, and what the social and political climate in England was like.” A dark-haired boy towards the back of their group raised his hand. “Go ahead, Remy.”
Remy LeBeau lowered his hand and began fiddling with his deck of playing cards as he spoke in his distinct French-Creole accent. “Well, Professor, that was when there was a lil’ trouble brewin’ ‘tween the Catholics and Protestants over there, right? He prob’ly didn’t wanna ruffle any feathers by puttin’ a popular religion in his plays, so he had his characters worship the gods from ol’ Roman mythology; anybody who’d be offended would’ve been long dead, so Willy did what any guy’d do to keep his head on his shoulders.”
Charles smiled to himself as the class laughed and (Y/N)’s lips curved upwards into a reluctant grin. “A little unorthodoxly put, Remy, but you’re absolutely correct. In the play, Lear states that-” She was cut off when the familiar sound of the school bell rang out and her students started to pack their things away. “Remember, on Monday we’ll begin performing your assigned scenes so be sure to work on memorizing your lines with your groups over the weekend. Have a good rest of your day!”
While they laughed and talked amongst themselves, the students headed back towards the mansion for their next class and with a fond smile on her face, (Y/N) looked away from them and finished packing her binders and books into her messenger bag. The novel in Charles’ hand was all but forgotten in favor of admiring his colleague and friend, who’s effortless beauty almost always succeeded in making him stutter over his words and caused him to blush in a way that he hadn’t since he was a schoolboy; she was dressed casually in a striped button-down blouse tucked into a faded pair of high-waisted jeans and well-worn Birkenstocks, with her (Y/H/C) hair pulled away from her face by a blue headband and her reading glasses dangling around her neck by a colorful beaded chain. Charles took in all of her striking figure, but it was her content smile and the happy gleam in her (Y/E/C) eyes that made him release a lovelorn sigh and look down at his lap.
Charles was infatuated with Professor (Y/L/N). Well, it perhaps started out as a simple infatuation, back when she’d first arrived on his doorstep pleading for him to help her daughter; her kindness and caring nature in regards to Molly’s safety and well-being was touching, considering how many parents he’d met who were overly eager to pass their mutant children off to a complete stranger just to be rid of them. After hearing their story, he knew that she couldn’t bear to be separated from her five-year-old and so, he asked that she stay and teach at the school to ensure that they would remain together. That was eight months ago and since then, the infatuation had evolved into a full-blown romantic crush; Charles was captivated by (Y/N)’s capacity for compassion, enchanted by her quick wit and natural beauty, in awe of her progressive idealism in regards to mutant rights and more than appreciative of her boundless consideration in regards to his disability.
Yes, Charles was enamored by his school’s newest professor, but he was also plagued by insecurity. The last woman he was romantically involved with was Agent Moira MacTaggert of the CIA, all the way back in 1962 when he was a dashing young man who’d just earned his doctorate and possessed an egotistical streak wider than the English Channel; nowadays, his ego was tempered and his youthful good looks were beginning to give way to wrinkles and streaks of silver. While a ten-year age gap between two consenting adults was hardly an insurmountable obstacle to a happy relationship, a part of him couldn’t help but think that (Y/N) would be happier with someone younger than him. Both Alex and Hank thought that he was overthinking the situation, and perhaps they were right but whenever he started to consider asking her out, that little voice of doubt whispered on in the back of his mind.
“Hi Charles!”
Looking up, Charles’ face reflexively broke out into a grin when he saw (Y/N) approaching the bench he’d parked his wheelchair beside. “Hello, (Y/N)! Holding your classes outside today, I see?”
“It’s such a beautiful day, so you could hardly blame me for taking full advantage of it.” The professor adjusted the strap of her messenger bag and tilted her head as a teasing smile played across her cherry-red lips. “Enjoying your lunch outside today, I see?”
“Touché, Professor,” Charles chuckled, slipping his bookmark into his novel to mark his place and tucking it into his wheelchair’s saddle pack. “Hank seems to believe that my vitamin D levels are too low, so I decided that eating outside was the quickest way to get our resident worrywart off of my back. Not only did I soak up plenty of sun, I had the added pleasure of listening in on your fantastic lesson on Shakespeare’s King Lear; no offense to the Bard, but it’s refreshing to see an Classical Literature professor teach her students about one of his historical plays instead of one of his romances.”
(Y/N) shrugged nonchalantly, but the way she began to fiddle with her pendant revealed the bashfulness she was attempting to mask. “Well, I remember what it was like being fourteen; you’re around the same age as Romeo and Juliet, yes, but you don’t know a damn thing about love and it’s not easy to understand why they do the things they do.”
“As a former fourteen-year-old, I heartily concur. At that age, I could scarcely understand myself let alone an emotion as complex as love, no matter how beautifully Shakespeare described it,” Charles replied, looking out across the manicured grounds as he recited, “‘My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep-’”
“‘-The more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite,’” (Y/N) finished and when their eyes met, Charles’ heart fluttered and he could feel his face beginning to warm; his brows rose in surprise when the professor hastily turned her head to try and hide her besotted smile, a flicker of hope igniting within him at the sight. “I, um, I-I should go and find Molly…”
“She’s at the playground with Alex’s second graders. Speaking of which, I need to speak with Alex about tomorrow’s scheduled book delivery…” Charles awkwardly cleared his throat before giving (Y/N) a tentative smile. “Would you allow me to escort you there?”
(Y/N)’s own smile widened at that. “Of course!”
While Charles wheeled himself along the stone pathway and (Y/N) kept in step with him, they eagerly discussed the school’s ongoing library expansion and all the new books they’d obtained for the students; any progress made at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters filled him with a sense of accomplishment, but expanding his ancestral home’s library was one of his greatest desires and he was thrilled that the children would soon have access to more knowledge than many of the country’s best private schools and universities. (Y/N) was just as excited about the expansion as he was, and he couldn’t help but admire the enthusiasm written across her beautiful features while he listened to her talk about all the lesson plans she’d brainstormed involving their new books.
They reached the playground sooner than Charles would’ve preferred, but his disappointment was set aside by the sight and sound of his school’s youngest students happily entertaining themselves on the elaborate structure; so many of them came from broken homes and were sent away without any second thoughts by families that couldn’t care less about them and while Charles couldn’t change their heartbreaking pasts, he did all in his power to give each and every one of his students a loving home and bright, promising futures. For the first time, I find myself truly understanding the blinding rage that fills Erik in regards to mutant rights, he thought with an inward grimace before glancing over at (Y/N) and smiling as the human woman affectionately watched her mutant daughter play, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve lost my faith in humanity’s innate goodness.
“Hi Mommy!” Molly exclaimed from the top of the structure, a toothy grin stretching across her face as she gave them both an enthusiastic wave. “Hi Professor ‘Zavier!”
“Hi Molly-Bear!” (Y/N) called back while a beaming Charles returned the little girl’s wave with one of his own. He’d always maintained that a good professor shouldn’t have favorites, but no one would blame him if he came out and admitted that Molly (Y/L/N) was – hands down – his favorite student; she was as exuberant and carefree as any human six year old, but her mutant abilities as a psychometric telepath meant that she was more insightful and tended to see the world around her with sage eyes. In truth, Molly reminded him so much of himself when he was a child and knowing first-hand how challenging having telepathic abilities at that age can be, he was grateful that he could help her by teaching her how to control and accept her gifts.
While Charles scanned the playground for Alex, he caught (Y/N) looking over at him and the tender expression on her face nearly took his breath away; she quickly looked away and pretended to adjust the fasteners of her messenger bag, but not before Charles noticed the glimmer of affection in her gorgeous (Y/E/C) eyes. A familiar whistle cut through his racing thoughts and when he glanced over, he spotted Alex leaning against a light pole that bordered the playground; a knowing smirk curved across the younger man’s face, widening as he brought a hand up to his temple and wiggled his fingers to signal for Charles to read his mind.
“I told you so.”
“Alex…”
“(Y/N)’s into you, Charles, and you’re clearly into her. So, what’re you gonna do about it?”
After taking a steadying breath and running an anxious hand through his hair, Charles cleared his suddenly dry throat and hesitantly spoke. “(Y/N)?” The professor looked over at him expectantly and his finger drifted upwards to loosen his shirt’s collar while he clumsily continued. “I, ah…well, I-I was wondering if I…(Y/N), would you and Molly care to join me for dinner sometime? There’s a wonderful Italian restaurant in Salem Center and a little movie theater just down the street from it that I think you’ll enjoy…”
(Y/N) blinked, looking dumbfounded but slightly hopeful as she took a moment to find her voice. “Charles, are you asking me out on a date?”
Charles nodded and offered her the barest of smiles. “Over the past few months, I’ve grown…immensely fond of you; I wake up every morning looking forward to our usual discussions over breakfast, I find myself spending far too much time styling my hair and picking out what to wear in the hopes that you’ll take note and every time you smile at me, my heart skips a beat.” The professor shyly smiled at that and he couldn’t help but lightly chuckle, the weight in his chest already feeling lighter with each confession he uttered. “Yes, just like that.”
“And you…you wouldn’t mind Molly coming along?”
The anxiety that filled (Y/N)’s eyes as she awaited his answer nearly shattered Charles’ heart; based on what little she’d disclosed to him about her past, he knew that she’s struggled with dating as a single mother and he could only imagine how disillusioned with romance she’d become as a result. “Of course not, (Y/N),” He softly replied and in a bold move, he reached forward and took her hand in his. “You two are a team, after all; Molly is your entire world, and I want you to know that I respect that more than anything. It’s also…well, let’s just say that it’s been quite a while since I’ve gone on a date, and I’d…”
“Like to go slow?” (Y/N) gently offered and when Charles wordlessly nodded, she gave him the smallest of smiles before looking over her shoulder and calling out, “Molly? Sweetheart, can you come here for a second, please?” After coming down the slide, Molly skipped over to them and the professor knelt down so that they were eye-level, her hand still holding onto his. “Professor Xavier wanted to know if he could take us out for dinner and a movie. Does that sound all right to you, Molly-Bear?”
The little girl’s head tilted to the side as her (Y/E/C) eyes studied Charles, and he was forced to mask his amused chuckle with a cough when she brought a mitten-clad hand up to her mother’s ear. “Like on a date?” Molly loudly whispered, and (Y/N) pursed her lips to keep from chuckling as she nodded; her daughter lowered her hand to reveal her excited smile and she gave her mother an enthusiastic thumbs-up. “Sounds good to me!” Molly looked back at Charles with a conspiratorial giggle. “Mommy likes you, Professor ‘Zavier.”
Charles arched a playful brow as his eyes flicked between the embarrassed elder (Y/L/N) and the beaming younger (Y/L/N). “She does, does she?”
“Mm-hmm, she likes your eyes and your smile and your hair and your-”
“Okay, young lady, that’s enough out of you,” (Y/N) hastily interrupted, tickling her daughter’s neck with both hands and smiling when she shrieked with laughter and scurried back to the playground. Shaking her head in fond exasperation, she stood and glanced back at Charles, who was trying and failing to muffle his laughter. “Well, I guess that settles it. Does six o’clock this Friday work for you?”
He emphatically nodded. “Yes, of course, it’s perfect!” He felt himself begin to blush at his obvious enthusiasm, and it was (Y/N)’s turn to chuckle as he awkwardly cleared his throat and tried again. “…I-I mean, Friday at six o’clock works for me.”
“Good. I guess that Molly and I will see you then.” The professor turned to walk away but took Charles by surprise when she turned back around and bashfully smiled at him. “I’ve…I’ve grown immensely fond of you too, Charles.”
Before he could say or do anything, she’d bent down and pressed a feather-light kiss onto his cheek, an infatuated gleam in her (Y/E/C) eyes as she flashed him one last smile and left to meet her daughter on the playground. A broad grin slowly spread across Charles’ face and while he watched her walk away, he leaned an elbow onto his wheelchair’s armrest and rested the side of his head against his palm, releasing a love-struck sigh and barely taking note of the familiar figure that moved to stand beside him.
“See what happens when you actually take my advice?”
Charles straightened his posture and glanced over at Alex, who was wearing the smuggest of smiles on his faces as he stared back at him. “Has anyone ever told you that you’re an impertinent ass, Alex Summers?”
Alex’s smirk widened. “Heard it all my life. So, when’s the big date?”
“This Friday at six o’clock. And since you and Hank have taken such a keen interest in my love life, I’ll be requiring your assistance on Friday.” The younger man quickly sobered and with a grin of his own, Charles chuckled and patted his arm. “There’s a good chap. Now, about tomorrow’s book delivery…”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although it was a far cry from the hazy evenings spent at Oxford’s many lively pubs and in the company of the college’s most flirtatious female students, Charles’ date with (Y/N) and Molly was undoubtedly the most enjoyable one he’d ever been on. He’d met the mother and daughter in the mansion’s foyer with two bouquets in his hands – daisies for Molly and vibrant pink roses for (Y/N) – and he happily watched them admire their flowers while simultaneously hiding the fact that he was studying (Y/N)’s figure; the professor was wearing a knee-length yellow dress with long billowing sleeves, a bright pink sash tied around her waist and matching high heels, and her carefully styled hair was pulled back by a pink headband. She was beautiful, far too beautiful to be going out with the likes of him, but his fears of inadequacy were quickly alleviated when she looked over at him and smiled.
Hank and Alex drove the three of them to Salem Center in Charles’ maroon 1959 Jaguar Mark IX, the pair of them opting to stay in town and catch a showing of the newly-released The Empire Strikes Back while they dined at La Mensa. Sensing Molly’s apprehension with being around so many non-mutant strangers, Charles distracted her by playing ‘tic-tac-toe’ and ‘hangman’ with her on her paper place-mat and (Y/N) threw him a grateful look as she asked her daughter about her schoolwork; while they enjoyed their food, (Y/N) entertained them with stories of her students’ antics and after some goading by Molly, she even balanced a spoon on the end of her nose much to her daughter and Charles’ delight. After dinner, they made their way down the street to the small movie theater and while many of its patrons were queued up to watch the latest Star Wars film, the three of them decided on watching the re-release of Disney’s Lady and the Tramp; Molly adored the classic cartoon and while Charles was impartial to the film, he thoroughly enjoyed exchanging enamored glances with (Y/N) over the little girl’s head.
Molly fell asleep on the drive home, cuddling against her mother’s side as she lovingly brushed her fingers through her daughter’s (Y/H/C) hair. In low whispers, (Y/N) assured Charles that Molly had a wonderful time and that she hadn’t seen the little girl so happy since before she’d come into her mutation; although aware that Hank and Alex were clearly eavesdropping from their front seats, Charles quietly asked her if she’d care for a quick nightcap in his study after putting Molly to bed, and he was thrilled when she readily accepted his invitation. When they arrived back at the mansion, (Y/N) carried the still-sleeping Molly inside, but not before giving Charles one last smile as he maneuvered into his outside wheelchair.
“So…” Hank arched a curious brow as he walked beside Charles’ wheelchair and steadied it when they reached the top of the ramp, where Alex was waiting with his motorized indoor wheelchair. “How was it?”
“Charming, but I could’ve done without the rather offensive Asian and Italian stereotypes-”
“Not the movie, Charles, the date,” Alex interrupted and when Charles chuckled in amusement at his friends, he leaned a shoulder against the doorway and crossed his arms over his chest. “C’mon, you finally ask out the woman you’ve been head over heels for and you’re not gonna give your two best friends the four-one-one?”
Shaking his head in faux exasperation, Charles shifted himself into his motorized wheelchair and arranged his legs as he airily answered, “(Y/N), Molly and I ate a truly magnificent meal at La Mensa that we followed up by watching a classic Disney film at the movie theater. What more is there to say?”
Alex heaved a sigh but moved to allow Charles to wheel himself into the mansion. “A little help here, Hank?”
“Oh, he’s having far too much fun messing with us to stop.” The scientist tucked his hands into his jacket pockets while a mischievous smirk played on his lips. “But speaking as the school’s resident genius, I couldn’t help but notice the good professor clearly checking (Y/N) out before we left and blushing when she smiled at him just now.”
A reluctant blush warmed Charles’ cheeks at that. “Don’t you two perverts have morning classes to prepare for?”
“Tomorrow’s Saturday, lover boy,” Alex smugly countered, nudging Hank’s arm with his elbow as they walked beside Charles’ wheelchair down the vacant hall to his study. “Well, Beast, there’s no doubt about it: Charles here’s got it bad for our lovely Professor (Y/L/N).”
When they reached his study’s door, Charles nudged it open and wheeled himself inside, but not before giving both men a look of genuine sincerity. “Thank you, for your assistance tonight and for your encouragement; the pair of you can occasionally be a pain in the ass, but tonight couldn’t have happened without you.”
Hank’s smile softened. “You’re welcome, Charles. We’re just happy that we succeeded in making you do something selfish for once.”
“Yeah, you’ve helped us both out so much over the years and it was high-time we returned the favor,” Alex added as he clapped Charles on the shoulder, his earnest expression morphing into a knowing smirk while he continued. “Enjoy your nightcap with (Y/N), and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do, lover boy.”
“Oh, and don’t forget protection!”
“Goodnight, gentlemen.”
Chuckling, Alex and Hank left the study and closed the door behind them; after pausing for a moment to take a calming breath, Charles wheeled himself over to the oak cabinet near his cluttered desk and unlocked it, pulling out a glass decanter of scotch and two glasses and setting them down on the coffee table. He bit his lip as his eyes surveyed the messy state of his study, cursing himself for not tidying up earlier, but a part of him knew that (Y/N) wasn’t the type to mind a little clutter; she liked to joke that the best professors had the messiest studies because they spent all their time teaching instead of worrying about how others perceive them. It was the good manners instilled in him from birth that saw him gathering stacks of loose papers, binders and leather-bound books and unceremoniously shoving them behind his desk before lifting himself out of his wheelchair to sit on the couch; with nothing else to distract himself from the anxious anticipation building up within him, Charles plucked the maple-colored queen off the chessboard and nimbly twirled it around his fingers as he waited for (Y/N).
Minutes later, there was a quiet knock on the door of his study and after scrambling to straighten up his chessboard, Charles called out, “Come in!” The door opened and (Y/N) stepped into the room, her gentle smile widening when she spotted him seated on the couch. “How’s Molly?”
“Out like a light.” (Y/N) crossed the room and sat on the couch beside him, her fingers playing with the flowing yellow material of her dress’ skirt as Charles poured their drinks. “She wanted me to tell you that she had a really fun time tonight, and she wanted me to thank you.”
“She’s been working so hard these past few months to complete her schoolwork and training, so if anyone deserves to have a little fun it’s undoubtedly her,” Charles replied, a surge of fondness for his youngest student and her kindheartedness bringing a smile to her face as he turned to (Y/N) and offered her a glass of the amber-colored liquid. “As do you, Professor.”
Accepting the glass, (Y/N) hummed thoughtfully before holding it up and angling it towards him. “In that case…to having fun.”
“To having fun,” Charles repeated, lightly clinking his glass of scotch against hers and taking a sip, his eyes appreciatively roaming along the professor’s figure while she took a sip of the strong liquor. “Do you like it? It’s top shelf scotch whiskey, all the way from Scotland.”
(Y/N) arched a playful brow as she crossed her leg over her knee and angled herself to face him. “Expensive, imported liquor? Are you trying to impress me, Professor?”
“Well, that all depends…” Following his instincts, Charles set his glass down and rested his elbow on the couch’s back cushion, his lips curving into a playful grin. “Is it working?”
Her (Y/E/C) eyes softened and after setting her own glass down, she rested one of her hands on his and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Charles, I was impressed by you before the top shelf scotch, before the fancy Italian restaurant, and before I ever laid eyes on this beautiful mansion.” His brow furrowed in confusion but she merely smiled and rubbed small circles along his knuckles with her thumb. “Eight months ago, the letter that I sent you asking for help with Molly was my Hail Mary; I had nowhere to go and no way to protect my daughter from the people who hated her for who she was, so I decided to write to the one person I knew could help her. And when you sent me a letter back – that incredibly kind and empathetic letter – you gave me hope, hope that I hadn’t felt in so long. So, you see? You managed to impress me before we’d even met, Charles Xavier.”
Charles, touched by her sincerity and feeling a little emotional, reached forward with his free hand and carefully cradled her warm cheek in his palm. “Oh, my darling (Y/N)…you’re not the only one who’s had their hope restored; I gave up any hope for romance not long after I lost my legs, choosing to focus my attention on the school and my fellow mutants. Over these past several months, however, you helped me to see that there was still hope.” His thumb traced along her cheekbone as he smiled and slowly began to lean in. “And now, I would very much like to kiss you, (Y/N) (Y/L/N).”
(Y/N)’s smile widened. “I’d like that very much as well, I just…” He could feel her cheek flush beneath his touch, and a look of embarrassment flashed across her face. “God, it’s been so long since I’ve done anything like this. Would it be silly to say that I’ve got butterflies in my stomach?”
“Not at all, darling. Truth be told, I’m a little nervous myself,” Charles murmured, his eyes flicking away from hers to stare at her enticing lips before glancing back up. “The last time I kissed a woman was in 1962, so you’ll have to forgive me if my technique has gotten slightly rusty over the past eighteen years.”
“Well, we won’t know unless we give it a go, will we?” (Y/N) breathed and her (Y/E/C) eyes burned with desire as they both inched closer. “Charles, dear…please kiss me.”
Wanting nothing more than to please the professor, Charles’ eyes fluttered closed as he tentatively brushed his lips against hers. (Y/N) wasted no time in returning the kiss, kissing him softly and sweetly as her hand left his to rest on the back of his head, her fingers tangling in his hair and eliciting a blissful groan from him; with one hand still cupping her cheek, he rested the other on her waist but soon found himself winding his arm around her in an effort to bring her closer. (Y/N)’s lips were soft and oh so addictive, slowly but firmly caressing against his as her fingers carded through his locks, and Charles surrendered himself over to the woman wrapped in his embrace.
Eventually, they were forced to separate for some much-needed air, the both of them out of breath and almost dizzy from their impromptu make-out session; Charles felt a surge of pride as he took in (Y/N)’s kiss-swollen lips, heaving chest and the dazed smile on her face, and he couldn’t resist leaning forward to lightly rub his nose against hers. When he pulled back, he huffed out a breathless chuckle at the incredulous look that she was giving him. “That’s a rusty technique?”
“Mm-hmm. Dreadful, wasn’t it?”
(Y/N) giggled at his joking question and pretended to consider it. “You know, I think I need another example before I can definitively say.” They both laughed but when Charles moved in for another kiss, a sharp twinge in his lower back caused him to recoil with a hiss of pain. “Charles, are you okay?!”
He mutely nodded, his eyes squeezed shut as he straightened his posture and leaned his back against the plush couch cushions. “I’m fine, it’s just a muscle spasm.”
“Is it…?” (Y/N) trailed off and when Charles finally opened his eyes as the pain began to fade, he could see the worry written across her face. “Is it because of your spinal cord injury?”
“That, and I’m afraid that I’m getting on in years; I’m not as young and spritely as I was in 1962.” Instead of stammering out a string of apologies and getting up to leave as Charles feared she would, the corner of (Y/N)’s lips curved upwards into a lopsided grin that left him slightly confused. “(Y/N)?”
The professor shifted closer to him. “Did you know that Molly’s father was fourteen years older than me?” Charles’ brow rose in surprise and he silently shook his head, watching as she reached over and brushed a lock of hair behind his ear. “You could say that I’ve always had a thing for older men…” Before he could think of something witty to say, (Y/N) swung her leg over his to straddle his lap and rested her hands on either side of his face; Charles couldn’t help but grin and, inspired by her delectable boldness, he placed his hands on her waist to hold her securely to him, his grin widening as her breath hitched. “Go ahead and read my mind if you don’t believe me, but it’s true.”
Shaking his head, Charles rested his head on the back of the couch so that he was staring up at her, softly smiling as one of his hands traveled upwards to cradle her cheek. “I believe you, darling. Would it be too sappy to say that I don’t want this night to end?”
“Not at all, dear,” (Y/N) shook her head before closing the distance between them and captured his lips in another passionate kiss; when they finally broke apart, she rested her forehead against his and returned his blissful smile with one of her own. “We can make this work, can’t we? Balance the two of us with running the school and raising Molly?”
“I believe that you and I can do just about anything, so long as we’re together,” Charles replied, his thumb and forefinger moving to guide her chin forward and pouring all his emotions into another kiss; there was no place on Earth he’d rather be than in the arms of the lovely Classical Literature professor who’d captured his heart and judging by the way she kissed him back, it was clear that she was thinking something along the same lines.
A/N: I had so much fun dipping my toes back into the Fox X-Men Universe (I still have a massive thing for 80's Charles Xavier and his flowing brown hair lol) and I loved that I finally resolved Charles and (Y/N)'s mutual attraction with this cute Part II! I may or may not have a few ideas for a possible Part III, so let me know if you'd be interested in reading more! Thank you all so much for reading and enjoying!
Tonight was the night. You were going out with Bucky Barnes. Excited for the date was a bit of an understatement. You may have told a few customers you had a date when they wished you a good day.
Thank God they were mostly regulars and seemed happy on my behalf.
"Maybe a sundress isn't nice enough," you told Tess, regretting the words the moment they left your mouth. She didn’t need to deal with you and your overthinking. Again.
"It's plenty nice. You’re going to look amazing,” she argued, going to check on the next batch of cookies. “And he can lift the skirt and bury his-"
"I thought you said I didn't have to get laid on my first date with him," you cut her off.
"You don't have to, but the visual alone will give him something for his spank bank later."
"Thank you for the vote of confidence," you smiled, but it quickly faltered.
You weren’t sure why a cloud drifted over your sunny disposition. Bucky was a good guy, a far cry from Richard. Gorgeous, kind, hardworking, the whole package. There was chemistry between the two of you that went beyond mere attraction. Maybe it was the fact that you were falling hard and fast for him that suddenly made you so nervous. You didn’t want to scare him away.
But he said he couldn’t stop thinking about me and he wouldn’t say that if he didn’t mean it.
Tess gave you a pointed look. “Stop overthinking. I’m begging you.”
“I’m not trying to,” you sighed, your nerves almost tempting you to grab a treat from the case. “What if I fall on my face?”
“Like Bucky would let you hit the ground. Even if you do stumble, that’s life. It isn’t going to change the fact that he likes you,” she said as you helped her with the cookies. You still had work to do. “The guy said he can’t get you off his mind and to text him whenever you want. He does not strike me as the type to just say those things and I know he doesn’t strike you as that type either.”
It took a moment, but your smile came back. She was right. Life wasn’t perfect and you were far from it, but Bucky liked you just as you are. Tonight would be unforgettable no matter what.
“I appreciate the pep talk,” you said, thankful that she told you what you needed to hear. “I’ll even tell you the dirty details if anything happens.”
“Hell yeah, you will. Remember, at this point, I’m living vicariously through you until I find my own hunk,” she winked. “But I mean it. Have fun tonight and get your man.”
I will.
Tumblr media
After your shift, you rushed to change for your date. You somehow managed to arrive a few minutes early outside of Bucky's shop and took a deep breath to get yourself under control. Catching your reflection in the window, you smiled before you turned away. Since Bucky hadn’t given you any hint for what you were doing, you chose your nicest sundress and kept your makeup minimal. You looked and felt beautiful, though you wished you would’ve brought a jacket with you.
Maybe Bucky will let me borrow his if he has one.
“Holy shit.”
You spun around when you heard Bucky’s voice behind you, your heart fluttering as he met you on the sidewalk. Instead of the jeans you usually saw him in, he wore khakis, a button up shirt, and a blue blazer that matched his eyes. He had his hair down, perfectly parted on the right side. You were so busy staring at the broad, handsome man that it took you a moment to realize he was trying to hand you something.
Flowers.
“Sorry. You just… wow,” he said as you took the small bouquet, sweeping his gaze over you as your cheeks grew warm. “You look so beautiful.”
You giggled and quickly covered your mouth with your hand, butterflies in your stomach when he gently smiled. “Don’t apologize,” you smiled back, taking a moment to smell the flowers. “You look pretty ‘holy shit’ yourself.”
His nose scrunched as he laughed and offered you his hand. “So, you’re telling me I clean up well. Steve insisted on the blazer when I said I wanted to bring my leather jacket.”
“That’s exactly what I’m saying. Though I wouldn’t have minded the leather jacket,” you said. He would’ve looked gorgeous, as always. “And thank you for suggesting we meet here. We had a last minute order and I was scrambling."
"It's no problem. One of my clients was running a few minutes late and I almost had to take you out in jeans."
"I wouldn't have minded," you said. You both worked hard and understood that things would come up from time to time. "So, where are we headed?"
He cleared his throat as he led you to his car. “Well, do you want the good news or the bad news?”
Your stomach dropped a little. “Mmm. Bad news first,” you said after a moment. “Always better to end on a high note.”
“Bad news was I had planned to take you out on my motorcycle so we could have a picnic in the park. There was going to be live music and I would’ve asked you to dance,” he explained, looking up at the sky. “But…”
“The weather called for a storm tonight, didn’t it?” you mused, a wistful smile on your face when he nodded. The image of being in his arms under the stars as music drifted through the air made your heart skip a beat. It sounded like the perfect evening.
“Yeah. The band is rescheduling,” he said, tucking his hair behind his ear as he looked at the ground. “Then I thought I could take you to this art gallery nearby. They normally have these stunning paintings of landscapes and various statues, but the current exhibit is on human sexuality and reproduction. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but maybe it was too much for a first date.”
“Oh, come on. It couldn’t have been that bad,” you argued as he stopped and took out his phone.
“No?” he asked, tapping his screen before he showed you what you assumed was the page for the gallery.
“…That’s a giant dick,” you said before you could stop yourself, tilting your head as you stared at the phone. “And does that say BALLS?”
An older woman crossing in the opposite direction gave you an amused stare before you and Bucky burst into a fit of laughter. You had to hold on his arm to keep from collapsing on the ground. It was the funniest thing you had seen since you could remember and to think you almost saw it in person.
This date is off to a great start.
“Maybe I wanted to see a giant dick and balls,” you said once you caught your breath, pointing at him when he opened his mouth. “And don’t say ‘all I have to do is pull down my pants’ or something like that.”
But I know he has a big dick. I know.
He smirked as he started walking again. “Only if you ask me nicely, Sugar.”
He’s going to kill my ovaries.
“I’ll ask you very nicely, Hottie,” you teased, wondering exactly where you were going then. “If that was the bad news, what’s the good news?”
“I managed to get us a reservation at one of the nicest restaurants in town,” he said, standing a bit taller.
He’s trying to impress me.
“That's really nice. And I’m sure dinner will be amazing,” you assured him, hoping he didn’t beat himself up over having to change his plans. It wasn’t his fault it was going to rain. He could’ve taken you to a fast food place and it would’ve been fine because you were with him.
“Speaking of, I better get us there so we aren’t late,” he said, opening the door for you to get in. “Maybe if you agree to a second date, I can take you out on my bike and have that picnic.”
“I’d love that,” you smiled, carefully putting the flowers in your lap and trying not to appear too eager that he was already thinking of a second date. You glanced around the car when he got in and drove off, noticing it was cleaner than when he took you home days prior.
Did he clean it for me?
You grinned as he hummed along to the radio, watching as he drummed his fingers along the steering wheel. “You could’ve made it as a musician if you weren’t a tattoo artist.”
“Now you’re just flattering me, Sugar,” he said. “Believe it or not, if I wasn’t a tattoo artist, I would’ve liked to be a science teacher. I loved science and everything space related growing up.”
“Really?” you asked. He would’ve been a wonderful teacher, no matter what age group he taught. “Okay. That’s another date night.”
“What? Playing teacher?” he joked, taking his eyes off the road for a second to wink at you.
“No,” you giggled, carefully shoving his arm since he was driving. “We’re going to a science museum. That's our third date. I’m going to watch you happily geek out over everything.”
“Yeah?” he asked, glancing at you after he parked the car. “You’d do that?”
“Yeah, I would. I think it would be a blast.”
I just want to spend time with you.
A soft expression took over his features when he took your hand and brought it to his mouth. His lips lightly brushed your skin, heat pooling in your gut as he made eye contact with you. The look alone made you want to skip dinner and go right to dessert. Why not throw caution to the wind?
“I’ll make it worth your while,” he promised before he got out.
You exhaled slowly and mentally told your libido to calm down. At the very least, you had to get through dinner. He went through the trouble of getting a reservation at a nice place and you weren’t about to take that away from him.
“Oh, wow. I haven’t been here before,” you said once you got a look at the name. Richard used to brag about the place, but never actually took you. From what you remember, he said the food was supposed to be expensive. You didn’t want Bucky to splurge on you.
“I haven’t either,” Bucky admitted. A fancy place didn’t seem like his style. “But it looked romantic.”
You bit your lip as he opened the door, the flickering candlelight in the entryway alone providing an intimate ambience. The date may not have been what he planned, but he clearly did his research and put thought into doing something nice for you. When was the last time someone tried to do something nice for you? When did anyone go out of their way to make you feel special?
“Hello,” Bucky said as the hostess greeted you. “Reservation for two under James.”
James?
The hostess scanned her screen before she looked up. “I’m sorry. That name isn’t coming up.”
Bucky’s cheeks turned pink when you glanced at him. “It should be under James, miss. James Barnes. Reservation for two for 7pm. I spoke with Charles. He confirmed it.”
You moved closer to Bucky when the hostess searched through her screen again. As calm as he sounded, you sensed he was anything but inside. You hoped he wasn’t embarrassed. Maybe she skipped over his name. A simple mistake.
“Charles did make a reservation for you, but he entered it for 7pm next Friday,” she said as she looked between the two of you. “We’re fully booked tonight. I'm sorry, James.”
Oh, no.
There was a tick in Bucky’s jaw before he shook his head and you wanted nothing more than to hug him. “No, that’s… It’s for tonight.”
“I’m so sorry. I can see if we can squeeze a table in for you, but it’ll be at least an hour,” she said, shifting uncomfortably on her feet. She probably expected one or both of you to make a scene. "I can get my manager?"
Bucky swallowed when he looked at you, his cheeks still pink. The candlelight danced in his eyes, but all you saw was sadness. No. You wouldn't allow that. This was your first date and it was going to be amazing.
You put a hand on his arm, his muscles relaxing under your touch. "It's okay. I know this amazing place that’s right around the corner."
"Are you sure?" he asked, the hostess visibly relaxing when you nodded.
"You have a good evening," you said to the hostess and tugged Bucky back toward the door. "I'm sure. Trust me. We may even beat the rain if we walk now."
“Okay,” he said, avoiding your gaze as you left. “Fuck. This is the worst first date, isn’t it?”
Your heart broke for him. All he wanted was to give you a nice evening and everything he tried fell through. “Not even close. And you have nothing to apologize for. Charles messed up the reservation, Hottie, not you.”
“Yeah, he did,” he said, his lip tugging like he wanted to smile. “I just really wanted tonight to be special and since I couldn’t give you the date I planned, I wanted to at least give you something nice. I couldn't even do that.”
Hearing that made you stop, even when you felt the first raindrop. "Tonight is special because you're spending time with me. That's all I wanted," you promised, squeezing his hand for good measure.
"That's really all?" he asked as he squeezed your hand in return.
"Well, not completely," you teased as another raindrop landed on your shoulder. "Maybe a kiss at the end of our date."
A wide smile formed on his face as he leaned in, not quite kissing you. "Whatever you want, Sugar."
As romantic as it was to stand on the sidewalk with him, the rain began to come down harder and had you rushing with him around the corner. “If you're still disappointed, you’ll feel much better when we eat. Antonia’s has the best food,” you said, holding out your hand in a grand gesture as you arrived. “Tada!”
Antonia's was a bit of a hole-in-the-wall kind of place. Not extraordinary on the outside, but lively and bright on the inside. The food and service were top notch. It was one of your favorite places.
“Wait, Antonia's?” he asked, a twinkle in his eyes. “This is where you’re taking me?”
“Yeah,” you replied, suddenly nervous as you faced him. Did he not like it? “Is this okay?”
“This is one of my new favorite restaurants,” he said.
No way.
"Seriously?"
"Seriously. I designed one of Antonia's tattoos. And I decided to check out the place."
He's full of surprises.
"Then you know you're in for a treat," you winked.
The hearty aroma of the restaurant filled the air as you went inside and wiped some of the rain off your dress. Antonia was speaking with the hostess as you went up to the stand. The owner was involved in virtually every part of her restaurant.
"Welcome to…" Antonia began as she looked at you, then at Bucky, then back at you. "Oh! You two… it's a date!"
Antonia looks so happy.
"Hi. And yes. We're on a date," you giggled when Bucky sheepishly smiled. It was sweet. "You wouldn't happen to have a table for two available, would you?"
Antonia put her hand over her heart and flagged down a waiter with the other. "Lover's special for these two. Go."
You exchanged a look with Bucky, who appeared just as confused as you were. "Lover's special?"
"Yes, yes. Come with me," she said, patting Bucky's cheek before she took you through the restaurant. You expected her to seat you at one of the few empty tables, but she passed them to take you to a door in the back. "Tonight is special and that means a special dinner."
Your eyes widened at the sight before you once she opened the door. There was a lone table in the middle of the room, flowers similar to the bouquet Bucky gave you sat in the center. Unlike the bright main room, the dimmed lights gave the room a romantic glow.
Perfect.
"Peter will serve you. And if you need anything, just ask, okay?" Antonia asked, putting her hand over her heart again. Were there tears in her eyes? "Two of my favorite customers. Together! Enjoy!"
You had to pause and swallow the lump in your throat once she left you alone. A restaurant owner showed more enthusiasm for your date than your mom did for anything that involved you. She likely never would.
"You okay?" Bucky asked, pulling out your chair.
"I'm fine," you replied, refusing to let the thought of your mom damper the evening. "A little chilly. I should've brought a sweater with me."
Bucky removed his blazer and put it around you, tenderness in his blue eyes as he rubbed your arms. "I can't wait to see you in my leather jacket," he said, helping you take your seat before he took his.
Oh, he's going to give me his jacket? Am I going to only wear his jacket? Fuck.
"Thank you," you said, inhaling as he rolled up one of his sleeves beneath the elbow and then the other. You reached across the table to lightly trace one of the tattoos on his right arm. "It was nice of Antonia to put us back here."
"Then why did you look so sad when she left?"
He caught that?
"She just looked so happy to see us together and I didn't expect that. It's nice that someone is rooting for us," you said, tracing your finger along his wrist before you stopped. "I'm sorry. I should've asked before I started touching."
"Don't apologize. I like your touch," he said in a low voice.
You lifted your gaze, seeing fire in his eyes that had nothing to do with the dim lighting. When he turned his hand over to hold yours, you made no move to pull away. You wished you could put your hands all over him.
"Hi! I'm Peter!" The waiter greeted as he brought water to the table. Bucky didn't let go of your hand. "I'll be taking care of you tonight."
"Only one taking care of my girl tonight is me," Bucky said. As much as you loved hearing that, you were glad he gave poor Peter a tiny smile so he could relax. "I'm kidding. It's good to see you, Peter."
"Y-You, too, Mr. Barnes. And you, Miss. You have the best cupcakes in town."
"Thanks," you smiled, quickly putting in your order before you gazed at Bucky. "So, James. Tell me more about you. How long have you been friends with Steve?"
"James is my first name. Everyone calls me Bucky," he chuckled before he shook his head. "And that punk."
You smiled softly as you listened to Bucky, not at all surprised by how easily the conversation went. Steve was his best friend since childhood and they served together before they went into business together. It was evident that he took pride in his shop and respected everyone who worked there. He carried the same affection in his tone when he spoke about his sister, Rebecca. He liked to frequent art galleries with Steve, but also enjoyed riding his bike, reading, and everything science in his spare time.
I could listen to him talk for hours.
"You know, you haven't said much about yourself," he pointed out as he set his napkin on his empty plate.
"I haven't?" You asked.
"No, you haven't and I don't want to monopolize the conversation," he said, leaning forward to give you his full attention. "I want to know more about you."
You tightened the blazer around you, unsure of what to say. "My life isn't exactly exciting," you said, wishing you could think of something clever or fun to discuss.
"Doesn't have to be exciting. I just want to know you," he said before Peter showed back up.
"Would you like to look at the desert menu?" he asked as he took your plates away.
"I think you can bring the check. We're going to skip dessert," you answered, giving Bucky an assuring smile when he frowned. "Let's go to my shop instead."
If Bucky wanted to really know you, you had to tell him more of your story. Your bakery was the only place to do it. And it would be the perfect way to end the evening.
Tumblr media
After you left the restaurant, with Antonia asking you to come back again, Bucky drove as safely as he could to the bakery. The rain didn't let up at all. You shrieked as you struggled to get the keys out of your purse, Bucky's blazer now soaked the longer you stood there. "Why didn't I get these out when I was still in your car?!" You shouted over the downpour.
"Why didn't I bring an umbrella?!" He yelled back, putting his hands over your head as if they would protect you.
The two of you practically fell through the door once you unlocked it and shut off the alarm. "We made it," you laughed, careful not to slip on the floor. He had his arm around you just in case. Tess was right, He wouldn't let you fall. "I'll get us some towels and you have your pick of any dessert I have in the fridge."
"You have any cupcakes?" He asked.
Your breath caught in your throat when you stepped back and caught the outline of multiple tattoos through his soaked shirt. "Yeah."
"See something you like?" he smirked, running a hand through his wet hair.
Fuck me.
"I do," you said, glancing down at yourself. "But I'm freezing and I owe you dessert."
Tess might also have words if I let Bucky ravage me by the front door.
You took Bucky to the kitchen and grabbed a few towels. It wouldn't dry you off completely, but it would help. You also put on some soft music. Not to set the mood necessarily, but just in case.
"So, this is where the magic happens," Bucky said, running the towel along his exposed skin.
"It is," you said, placing your hand on the counter. "You said you wanted to know me. It starts here."
"In the kitchen?"
"In the kitchen," you repeated, going to the fridge to take a container of cupcakes out. "I used to visit my grandparents every weekend when I was growing up. My dad wasn't around and my mom said it was for family quality time, but she never stuck around. The reality was that I cramped her style and she passed me off to them because she knew they wouldn't say no."
Bucky's jaw clenched as you let him take a cupcake. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault," you said, gripping the lid tightly before you closed the container. "I remember crying because I wanted to take dance classes and try and make friends. My mom said I would be a terrible dancer and that it would be a waste of time and money. A great thing for a kid to hear, right?"
"Jesus," he whispered.
It wasn't exactly the happiest conversation to have, but you wanted to show Bucky a part of you that you didn't show to most people. "My grandma wiped my tears away and brought me into her kitchen. Said she had the perfect cure for the blues. Baking. And that's what we did every weekend until I got old enough to look after myself."
"Your grandma sounds amazing," he said, carefully examining the cupcake in his hand. "And baking became your passion."
"It did. She taught me to pour love into every creation I make. And that's what Tess and I do for others. If someone is having a bad day, at least they can have a treat and feel a little better," you said, pride in your eyes as you looked around. "My grandma supported my dream, but my mom almost disowned me for wanting to run this place. It isn't good enough in her eyes."
I'm not good enough.
Bucky's nostrils flared as he set the dessert down. "Your business isn't good enough for her? What the hell? It's flourishing. I can barely find a lull to come in to get some undivided attention. And your customers love you. She should be proud of you."
His defense of you was heartwarming. "Doesn't matter how successful my business is. She wanted me to marry rich, probably so she could get money from me, but I didn't. She berated me when I broke up with Richard. No matter what I do, I'm never going to be good enough in her eyes," you told him, patting the counter with your hand. "But this makes me happy and that's enough."
"That's why you were sad that Antonia was so happy about our date, wasn't it? Because your mom either doesn't or wouldn't support it," he guessed, reaching for you and pulling you into his arms. "She'll probably hate me. I'm not rich. Covered in tattoos."
"I don't care what she thinks of you. I don't need a rich guy or fancy dates. I just want someone who can provide companionship and support. Someone who respects and cares for me," you said, wrapping your arms around him. "A good, hard-working guy like you deserves the same."
It was too soon to voice it, but Bucky was the kind of man you needed in your life. Someone you could share parts of yourself with and know he wouldn't judge. A man who made your heart race beyond lust.
A partnership.
He stared deeply into your eyes and you had no idea what was going through his head, but his gaze told you so much. How could a pair of eyes be so expressive? "You're perfect, Sugar, and more than enough. You hear me?"
Tears welled up in your eyes before you blinked them away. He sounded sincere and unashamed at his declaration. You hadn't done anything to deserve such praise. "No, I'm not," you whispered.
"You are to me. You took a chance and asked me out. Soothed me when tonight didn't go the way I thought it would," he said, gripping your chin to recapture your gaze. "And you trusted me enough to share something vulnerable with me when you didn't have to. It means everything."
"I feel like I can open up to you," you said as the two of you slowly swayed to the beat. You couldn't remember why you were nervous about your date to begin with.
"And I'll take care of you. I mean it."
I hope he knows I'll take care of him, too.
"You know," you began with a soft smile. "Our first kiss was in your shop."
"It was," he smiled.
"So I think it's only fair that we have our second kiss in my shop," you said.
"You did say you wanted a kiss to end our date," he said, bringing a hand to the back of your neck, but giving you a chance to stop him.
You didn't.
Even though you expected it, you still gasped when he molded his mouth against yours. Your heart pounded furiously in your chest, making you both eager and pliant as he licked his way across your lips. When he brushed his tongue against yours and took possession of your mouth, you mewled. Desire nearly blinded you from the taste of him.
I want more.
"I don't want our date to end," you breathed, clutching his arms to steady yourself.
"It doesn't have to," he said, resting a hand on your hip. His eyes were dark and full of want. To have him look at you that way, how could you possibly end the evening with one kiss? Why deny yourself what you both wanted?
"No, it doesn't," you agreed with a coy smile. "So. My place or yours?"
So. How do we think the evening will go? Love and thanks for reading! 💙
˚ ༘ ◝ are we still friends?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: kate martin x bestfriend!oc
summary: after hooking up with one of her childhood best friends, kate finds it hard to keep the friendship.. friendly.
warnings: none
Tumblr media
abigail’s eyes fluttered open slowly trying to take in her surroundings. the room she was in was very familiar, her best friend kate’s dorm. her nerves began to calm until she noticed that she was completely naked waist down. her breath hitched and her body froze. she sat up on her elbows quickly to see articles of both the girls clothing scattered around the room. as she looked around hastily, she soon heard footsteps coming towards the specific dorm room.
abi tried to put on her clothes quickly before having to run anto anyone she didn’t want to. she got up from the bed, ass still out looking for her under in the mess around the room. as she was bent over, she heard the door open and looked back ashamed.
kate didn’t look half as bad as eye did. her hair was tamed but her face was still puffy as if she hadn’t woken up that long before me. “morning g.” she muttered with a small smile. abi just nodded her head rushing to get out of there, trying not to leave anything. she eventually got all her clothes on but couldn’t find her cellphone for her life. kate just watched her every move, looking up and down for her phone.
they both knew how stressful the situation was but kate was taking it way easier. last night was everything she had ever wanted and more. the light haired girl paced in front of kate a few more times before kate grabbed her wrist so they could come face to face. for some reason, abi couldn’t get herself to look in kate’s face. almost like the was embarrassed from last night events.. knowing she’s not.
“talk to me abi.” kate’s voice was extremely warm and inviting as she rubbed abigail’s arm as a way of comfort. this action may have made her wanna go another round
but instead she let out a defeated sigh and shakily said “im just trying to find my phone kate. please.” kate’s hand fell by her side before she reached into her sweatpants pocket and pulled out abi’s phone, handing it to the shorter girl. “i was just sending our videos to myself” she said backing up to lay out in her bed. abigail stood there dumbfounded completely. she couldn’t even believe the had sex first of all but now there’s videos??? she was definitely gonna look at those later
the two were in this distanced position for a minute or two before abigail semi stormed out. it was expected but still hurt kate. she was scared of catching feelings but even more scared to lose her best friend all together.
few days later
today was game day. kate had found it hard to even focus on todays game. all she could think of was abigail. her face, her body, her voice, everything. they hadn’t been in contact since the other night. kate hoped and prayed that abi would show up to her game today even though she didn’t really expect it.
but to her surprise, abigail had shown up. she tried to hide herself but kate could spot her from a mile away. knowing that abi even showed up made her extremely happy and threw her back on her game.
by the end of the night, iowa obviously won but their captain wasn’t focused on that. she was focused on getting to talk to her girl by the end of the night. Kate quickly changed her clothes in an attempt to catch Abi leaving or even outside. unfortunately when kate came out of the locker room, she was stopped up by fans. taking pictures, answering questions, and signing merchandise. before she knew it she was in a post-game interview. her answers were rushed but that didn’t seem to cut the interview in half. if anything it made it longer.. having more questions to ask.
when the interview was over, kate sluggishly rose from her seat and continued to walk outside the arena. she was discouraged to say the least. her heart knew that when she went through those double doors, the person she wanted to see the most would not be on the other side.
but to her surprise, abigail was there.. waiting on the other side. kate didn’t get the reaction she wanted though. she expected abigail’s face to light up when she saw her best friend but instead it drooped into a deep frown. this was ignored tho.
“hey. glad you waited for me” kate spoke first. “yep. can we talk” abigail questioned avoiding the blondes gaze once again.
this sentence made kate’s stomach drop to her ass. there was no way this would end well.
“look i know you think the other night was a mistake and i thought that way too at first but i can’t deny it. i love you abi. like so much and we could work something out no matter what” kate expressed stepping closer to her best friend, rubbing her cheek gently.
“kate”
ot7 vampire enhypen part (four)
back to school after ni-ki fudged up
ni-ki meets a stranger who happens to know his secrets
you also meet this stranger who has you questioning the boys and the situation
nsfw - towards the end
please comment share and reblog! but please don’t repost or translate!!
₍ᐢ. .ᐢ₎ ₊˚⊹♡
you walked on to campus monday morning and everyone acted like last week didn’t happen. the girl was doing better, can’t remember what happen, and the cops never found the culprit.
well, you were looking the culprit in the eyes right now as he was getting a lecture from his two elders.
“you may have classes without us, but you are to be home before 5 pm. all your classes end by 3. if we catch you one on one with any human, we will find a way to get you your own babysitter.” jay ranted to the youngest.
ni-ki nodded. “i understand and i won’t fuck up again, i promise.”
“don’t make a promise you may not be able to keep.” sunghoon stated.
“come on ni-ki, i will walk you to class. my first class isn’t until 11.” you said with a smile.
“and don’t be late.” jay pointed a finger at you. you stuck your tongue out.
linking arms with ni-ki you walked him to his first class which was at 9. it was currently 8:47 am.
ni-ki sighed. “will i ever have their trust?”
you sighed as well. “yes, but it’ll take awhile, okay? just give them time. they just worry and are hard on you because they care.”
while walking to class with ni-ki you noticed a girl with blonde hair watching the both of you.
“who’s that?” you asked.
ni-ki looked over to where you were looking, and shrugged. “dunno, i think she’s in a class or 2 of mine. haven’t really interacted with her. don’t know her name.”
you smiled, “well she’s really pretty.”
ni-ki deeply chuckled, “no fraternizing with humans, remember?”
“i mean you can talk to her, just not alone, okay?” you stopped in front of ni-ki’s class building and patted his shoulders. “do good in class. learn something!”
ni-ki groaned and you happily skipped off.
once you were gone, ni-ki walked into the building, and soon the blonde girl was beside him, cutting him off as she stood in front of him.
“i know what you are, blood sucker. and i know what you did.” she smirked and walked off towards class.
︶꒦♡꒷꒦︶
meanwhile when close to 11 came, you made it to the class jay was a teaching assistant for, and just on time. you sat in the back while 96% of the girls in the class sat up front. mainly to ogle jay.
“we’ve missed this class!” one girl shouted.
“i was so sad when classes got canceled.” another shouted.
one girl argued, “it was for our safety though! i hope that creep is found!”
your heart sank knowing they were talking about ni-ki. jay and sunghoon had warned you and the other boys, people will be talking and saying rude things, but to not take it personally or say anything aloud.
“let’s get class started, shall we?” the professor of the class cleared his throat and began his lecture. as the girls attention was glued to jay and his jawline, jays attention was glued to you as you focused on the lecture.
jay hates the fact you don’t make flirty eyes with him in class, but you told him and the other guys, your studies come first. they respected you for that.
class ended 50 minutes later, and your next class wasn’t until 2, so you agreed to meet your roommate for lunch.
without bothering to say goodbye to jay, since he was busy with the girl students in class, you made your way towards the student center where most of the food options were.
while walking down the path you saw a familiar blonde from earlier. and once again, she was staring at you.
you walked up to her as other students passed, going along their day. “is there a reason you keep staring at me?”
the girl smiled and stuck out her hand. “im eunchae.”
“im—,”
“i know who you are.” she cut you off and stood up. “i also know what you are to those blood suckers.”
as eunchae went to walk away you grabbed her hand, “wait—,”
“don’t worry im not going to tell anyone.” she shook her head. “just know those boys don’t care about you. they give you precious attention now, but what happens in a few years? you get older and what, they stay the same age? they won’t have you as their precious feeding tube much longer. they’ll throw you to the curb sooner or later.”
you were too stunned to speak, and eunchae walked off. when you came to your senses, you walked to meet your roommate for food.
“hey, are you okay?” she asked and you mindlessly nodded, picking at your food. you were currently rethinking, and over analyzing your conversation with eunchae.
what would happen once they were done? you did get older and they wouldn’t, right? you weren’t their first human to primarily feed on and you won’t be the last. how many others have jay and sunghoon roped into this? how many others did they call love and baby doll and treated so well? would they erase your memory once they were done? would they just pack up and leave without telling you? would they kill you?
your mind raced and you felt so sick. “i think im gonna skip my 2 pm class. im not feeling well.” you stated while packing up. you would take the remainder of your food with you.
your roommate looked at you with concern. “okay, get some rest!”
you nodded with all your things and walked to the one place you might get answers. the guys house. and with them all being on campus until at least 4, you would have time to snoop for answers.
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
ni-ki was walking on campus when he spotted the blonde girl from earlier. he’s had two classes with her and each time she’s ignored him.
she was lying on a blanket on the grass reading as ni-ki walked up.
“we need to talk.”
“aren’t you not supposed to be around humans alone?”
ni-ki looked around. technically they weren’t alone, there were other students scattered about. “is this a test?”
the girl closed her book and sat up from her lying position. “a test?”
“did jay or sunghoon put you up to this?” ni-ki asked annoyed. did they really not trust him that much?
the girl shook her head but patted the spot next to her. “sit down riki.”
ni-ki’s jaw nearly hit the ground. riki was his birth name, but he always went by ni-ki. only certain people know his name is riki or even call him that.
ni-ki sat down on the blanket.
“im eunchae.” she held out her hand and ni-ki shook it. “and no, the guys didn’t put me up to anything.”
“then how—?” ni-ki couldn’t even finish his sentence as he was so confused. eunchae laughed.
“let’s just say, im not a vampire, but a supernatural creature as well.”
ni-ki’s eyes went wide as he looked at eunchae. “what kind of supernatural creature?”
“ever heard of a seraphim?” eunchae asked. “we’re also known as fallen angels.”
“oh.” ni-ki said. “what is it that you do?”
eunchae smiled, “maybe i can tell you that later tonight.”
ni-ki frowned, “i have to be home by 5.”
“yikes they put you on that much of a strict curfew because you lost control and fed on a human?” eunchae faked gasped. “just ignore it.”
“i—i can’t.”
“what are you gonna do, suck my blood? i promise my blood will not taste good.” eunchae said and stood up grabbing her book. ni-ki followed.
eunchae added, “i’ll also make sure you don’t feed on any innocent people.” eunchae promised with her hand up and her big eyes round and her lashes batting.
“you aren’t a good influence.”
“im a fallen angel riki. and i never said i would be a good influence.”
“how can i trust you’re telling the truth?”
“you can’t, that’s the thrilling the part.”
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
you arrived to the guys house and immediately went up to the library. the library had old books so it had to have something from jay and sunghoons past.
you searched and searched the shelves, not finding anything much helpful. you found a few books on the lore of vampires and made note to look at those later.
your attention turned to the desk. as you opened the drawers, you found a photo book. bingo.
but as you opened it, it was empty.
“love, why aren’t you in class?” at the sound of jay’s unexpected voice, you literally screamed. your heart rate was definitely up, but you took a few deep breaths.
“i wasn’t feeling well. so i came here, to my favorite place.” you smiled hoping jay bought your lie. since your heart rate was already up from being startled, he wouldn’t notice the difference because of your lie.
jays eyes soften. “aw love come here.” he waved for you to leave the comfort of the library into his awaiting arms.
you gave him a hug in the threshold. he smelt so good. you sighed into his chest. “wait, how did you know i wasn’t in class?”
“i went to look for you. i know we aren’t to interfere with your studies so i was gonna ask if i could feed before or after class.”
“how was you going to feed before my class?”
“take you to my office.” jay smirked and your face felt hot.
“well im here now.”
jay frowned, “but you aren’t feeling well.”
you shook your head, “im a bit better. honestly i just didn’t want to go to class and hear more people talk about what happened.”
jay held you closer, rubbing your back. he kissed the side of your head. “thanks for caring about us love, but people will talk, okay? we’ll get through it.”
you nodded and jay led you to his room. “are you sure you’re up for it, love?”
you nodded, and took your shirt off throwing it somewhere in his room then began unbuttoning your jeans.
“hey!” jay scolded. “undressing you is one of my favorite things.” he pouted and you laughed taking your hands off your button.
jay took his time undressing you, kissing every inch of your body, giving light nibbles up your thighs, stomach and chest.
his lips made its way to your lips for a deep and slow kiss. jay was always so gentle and romantic and sometimes you wish he wasn’t. you always wondered deep inside if he had a hardcore dominant side of him.
when you two made eye contact, you asked, “jay, why are you always so gentle with me?”
jay smiled, “honestly, because if anyone of us goes full force you genuinely may not be able to walk for a while.”
“what if that’s something i want?” you teased.
jay shook his head with a smile, “maybe on a day where you don’t have class for the next few days, okay?”
your hands ran through jays hair, “what’s the most public place you’ve had sex? i mean you’ve been a vampire for so long, there has to be somewhere interesting you’ve done it.”
“penthouse balcony.” jay replied. before you could reply further, jays fingers snuck down to your core, and entered your pussy, earning a low moan from your mouth.
he kissed and sucked your neck while his 2 fingers entered in and out of you, all while his thumb laid pressure and lazy circles on your clit. he had to get you pretty ready for him as although jay didn’t have inches, but he sure enough had thickness to his cock.
“so wet for me.” jay whispered in your ear and pulled is fingers out when he thought you were wet enough for him. giving you one last kiss, he aligned himself with your entrance and slowly entered you. you immediately felt the stretch, as he placed your legs on either side of his waist so you could feel him deeper. “i don’t think you’re ready for the damage i could do to you in bed, love.”
that earned another moan from you, “yes—yes i could.” you stuttered as jay was rocking his hips to yours, sounds of skin slapping the only noise to be heard.
jay sat up so he could hold your legs straight up, them vertical against his chest. this position offered a new feeling and ways for him to satisfy you, and he picked up the pace, your ass becoming red with the speed of his thighs hitting them.
spews of profanities left your lips at this new sensation and feeling. you loved it. your hands gripped the sheets to his bed, as jay held you in place. you were close and jay could feel it.
he pulled out, you hissed at the loss of contact, almost in tears when jay helped you get on your hands and knees for him to fuck you from behind. no warning, he bottomed out, a louder than usual moan leaving your mouth, the front of his body connecting with your back, and his lips finding your neck, his favorite spot.
his vampire teeth sunk into your skin, and you let out a moan of pain followed by a groan of pleasure, groaning jays name over and over, encouraging him to pick up his pace and chase both of your orgasms. soon, you felt jay release his come into you, and he slowed down, his vampire teeth retracting as he licked where he fed.
you were so thankful that although he could come, you couldn’t get pregnant since his sperm was dead.
you collapsed on your front on the bed, trying to catch your breath. although you know jay didn’t go full out, he did go harder than usual. jay rubbed your back, his breath already returning to normal, as he put on pants and covered you up with his sheets and comforter.
he looked down so he could face you, “are you okay?”
you nodded. once your brain fog from the orgasm started to go away, you remembered the whole reason why you were even there.
you turned around to face jay who was sitting on his bed next to you scrolling on his phone.
“jay?”
“mhm?” he hummed and looked to give you his attention.
“what happens when yall are done with me?”
jay pouted in confusion. “love, what do you mean?”
you sighed and sat up, covering yourself with the sheets. “i mean when you all are done using me as a human blood bank. do yall kick me to the curb? pack up and leave without telling me? kill me?”
“love, where is this coming from?”
“don’t—don’t call me love right now.”
“where is this coming from? why all of a sudden are you thinking about this?”
“jay, i gotta think about my future, okay? unlike you all, i get older, okay. i will eventually meet the love of my life, get married, have kids,”
“absolutely not.” jay stated, his tone darker than usual. when you looked him in the eyes you realized his eyes were red.
“jay—,”
“you belong to us and only us.”
“jay that’s not fair,” you said, “i can’t be at your beck and call.”
“yes you can and you will.”
“what happens when yall are done with me?”
“we won’t be.”
“then are you gonna turn me to keep me young?” you argued.
jays eyes went back to normal and his face softened, “no. i don’t turn people unless their life depends on it.”
you got up quickly from the bed, “jay, this makes no sense! how are you gonna say i belong to yall only, but not tell me what my future will look like?”
jay tried to reach for you but you pulled away. was you being unreasonable? you didn’t know and you didn’t care. you just know eunchae had you thinking more about this situation you got yourself in.
you looked around for your clothes, and immediately started to get dressed. “i need to go. i need to go home and think.”
“love,”
“NO!” you yelled to stop jay. “just no.”
you finished dressing as jay watched. your belongings were in the library so you walked down the hall to grab your bag and uneaten food. jay was following you around the house.
“im leaving. i don’t think this is a good idea anymore.” you said as you walked down the steps and that perked jays ears as well as sunghoon who happened to be listening.
“baby doll,” sunghoon began and it slightly startled you as you turned to look at both men. they both looked hurt, but angry at the same time.
“love, you belong to us, end of story,”
“not end of story jay, fuck you!”
“baby doll, behave.”
“and fuck you too sunghoon!”
you stormed out of the house, hearing jay tell sunghoon “let her go, for now.”
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
you held back tears as you walked around campus. you weren’t ready to go back to your dorm just in case one of the guys were waiting for you.
but it wouldn’t matter, they could probably track you by your scent. they’ve always said you were different.
“did they hurt you?” for the what, third time today? a voice startled you.
you looked behind you and saw eunchae. “no.” you shook your head then shrugged, “i don’t know.”
“come with me, i have some girls you might want to meet.”
you wiped your tears, “huh?”
“trust me.” eunchae smiled. “plus i think the person i arranged to meet at 5 won’t show up.”
Hi! First of all, I wanted to say that I love your blog 💕 reading your posts always cheer me up :D
So, I had an angsty thought about the big sis!reader ask, remember that part where shredder uses karai as hostage and accidentaly mutates her? How do you think things would go if reader was the one who got mutaded instead? It could be a snake or something else if you wish!
English is not my first language, but I think I made this understandable enough kdksjdk
Anyway, Have a lovely day/night 💕💕
I've actually had a few ideas about this before, just a little context, Reader is mutated into a humanoid spider.
Tumblr media
2012 BOYS WHEN THEIR BIG SISTER GETS MUTATED
A recon mission gone wrong.
That's how you ended up dangled over a giant vat of mutagen.
The rope was tight, and you heart was pumping.
One wrong move, and your whole life would be changed.
Hell, who knew what would happen if you came in contact with that much mutagen.
You just hoped the boys would get here in time,
And then you could all go home and laugh about this over some pizza gyoza.
When your brothers ran in, you let out a silent cheer, then you started trying to gain momentum to swing yourself to one of the catwalks.
To bad you were unaware of Shredders eyes on you.
The rope was cut before you knew what was happening, and then the fear set in.
You cried out as you came in contact with the slime like substance, and one thing you never expected was the pain.
You struggled for a moment, then pulled yourself out of the vat, a searing pain coursing through your entire body while you groaned.
"(NAME)!" The collective shout of your siblings barely reached your ears as the pain flared, you felt your body reshaping itself, and it hurt.
It hurt so much.
You collapsed to the ground, screaming in pain as your skin changed to a light shade of purple,
As your jaw reshaped itself along with your teeth,
As brain rewired itself to account for the new spider like appendages sprouted from your back.
It felt like your veins were made of fire, and you didn't seem to notice when your vision changed.
You didn't feel it when one of your brothers picked you off the ground.
You continued to stew in your own agony as your entire being shifted.
You didn't feel the softness of your own bed, or the gentle hand of your father resting on your forehead.
Then as soon as it started, the pain stopped.
Your body was sore, and even attempting to open your eyes hurt.
The low, painful whines went unnoticed by you, but not your father,
"Rest, my daughter. You need rest." He whispered, stroking your hair.
Rest...
That sounded nice.
Rest...
You drifted off, unaware of the turmoil amongst your family...
Donnie sighed as he examined your new appendages, you had grown something akin to spider legs along your back, and you were now sporting two new arms along your torso.
"She'll be fine..." he said, turning to his family, "It may take a while for her to get used to this though, she had a completely new set of eyes and arms to learn how to use. Hopefully I can finish that retromutagen soon.."
You woke around 2 hours later, you blinked open your eyes, and panicked.
What happened?
Everything looked so red.
Red.
Redredred.
You tried to stand, but you felt off balance, and you fell catching yourself before you hit the ground.
The sight of two extra hands greeted you.
Your heart began to pump louder,
So loud you could hear it beating.
Ba-dump, Ba-dump, Ba-dump-
"GUYS! KYOUDAI? OTOU-SAMA? DOKO NI IRU NO?"
You heard six pairs of feet rush to your side, but you struggled to see.
Everything was blurry and red.
"I can't see. I can't see. Otou-sama, Dōshite mienai no? D-dōshite mienai no?" your voice cracked, and Splinter pulled you into a hug.
The soft voice of April sounded through your own heavy breathing, but you didn't register, "What does that mean?"
Leo replied in a shaky tone, "She's asking why she can't see..."
"It's so loud." you whispered, "It's all so loud."
Splinter held you close, replying softly, "Hush, my dear. koko desu."
"Where are the boys?" you asked, quietly, "Are they ok? Please tell me they're ok."
Mikey whispered softly, "We're ok, Ane-chan. We're ok, I promise."
You pulled away from Splinter and shakily pulled them into your arms, and you felt tears fall onto your skin, "Naka naide kudasai. Please don't cry, kyoudai. Please..."
It took you accouple days to get used to your new body.
Your vision was your biggest problem.
You found yourself bumping and stubbling into things, and you took to just moving around as little as possible.
You cut your lip on your own teeth more than you should have, and couldn't wear any of your old clothes due to your new appendages.
April bought you some new ones with holes cut into them.
You were terrified to hug your family.
The last time you did was when you woke up, and one of your new spider arms cut Mikey's cheek,
After that, you stopped trusting yourself to touch them.
Donnie was working overtime on developing retro-mutagen, he hated seeing you so scared and lost.
All of them did.
You always knew what to do,
But not this time.
Splinter knew what you were going through,
The exact same thing happened to him,
He did his best, but you were so scared of yourself, he didn't know how to comfort you.
Mikey was the most noticably affected.
He tried so hard to help you get out of your horrible state of mind,
But you always pushed him away, scared you might accidentaly hurt him again.
Life was different,
Life was stressful, and the tone of the Lair was definitly alot less cheery.
Everyone was worried about you.
And you were so, so scared.
....................................
I know I said I was taking a break, but I swear I'm just finishing some drafts-
translations:
Kyoudai: Little brothers
Otou-sama: Father
Ane-chan: Big sister
Doko ni iru no: Where are you?
Koko desu: I'm here
Dōshite mienai no: Why can't I see?
Naka naide kudasai: Please don't cry
Compiling all of the canon evidence about Caleb because I noticed sources are getting muddled. Below the cut is all the canon info I could find with the episodes and who said it/ where it came from.
Caleb was alone as a child raising his little brother, at some point they moved from an unknown location to Gravesfield (Masha, TTT). The two of them played a witch hunter game where they dressed up in costumes. We see Caleb playing a witch, stepping in a trap Philip set. They also churned butter together and Caleb whittled Philip's mask in Gravesfield. (Portraits, Hollow Mind) Caleb met Evelyn at an unknown point, and bonded over birds, where she was disguised as a human. (Dana Terrace) Later, as a teen, Caleb and still child Philip went on a witch hunt. They found Evelyn in the woods (may or may not be related to witch hunt) and discovered she was a witch. Caleb was accepting of her and the duo began traveling back and forth between Gravesfield and the Boiling Isles, developing a secret code to travel, leaving Philip behind from his perspective. (Portraits/ cut portrait, Hollow Mind. Masha, TTT). As an adult, Caleb cut his hair. (Statue, Yesterday's Lie) At an unknown time, he acquired the cabin near the Noceda house. He had his (implied in KT/TTT) blue coat embroidered with the symbol of a bird in a cage, and this coat became Philip's at an unknown point in time. (King's Tide/TTT) Caleb or Evelyn also hid the Rebus Box under the floorboards and created said Rebus and hid the Titan's blood near the portal with an owl stopper. (TTT) At some point, as Caleb and Philip were adults, a fire started at the current day historical society and Caleb + Evelyn vanished. Philip followed after, leaving a diary behind which was used to understand the situation by the townspeople (Jacob, Yesterday's Lie. Masha, Storyboard for TTT, considering canon as complacent). Philip states that it takes him five years to find the Titan's blood and in the image he is growing a beard (Eclipse Lake). He has a medium length beard when he confronts Caleb and Evelyn first in his beast form, transforming back when Caleb hugs him. At this point, Evelyn is pregnant with a child and she and Caleb are holding hands. A later shot shows Philip holding a knife behind his back as Caleb smiles and Evelyn is turned away. Philip is wearing the blue coat. At a later point, Caleb has his hands up, holding a flat edged knife looking worried as Philip walks to the right. Caleb is on the ground with flames around him, and those flames die down as he dies. Philip sees himself in the reflection of the dagger with blood on it. Evelyn returns and uses a gold magic, hitting Philip as he runs away. (Portraits, Hollow Mind) At an unknown point, Philip obtains Caleb's remains and begins several failed grimwalker experiments until the episode Elsewhere and Elsewhen where he meets the Collector.
Missing/fragment evidence: Philip and Caleb are missing information for most of their adulthood, and Evelyn has extremely scare information. A mural in Belos's castle representing wild witches burning a town resembles Eda with short hair in a green dress and a blonde witch with rounder ears, likely Evelyn and her daughter. (Watching and Dreaming) The blue coat has never been proven to belong to Caleb, other than Masha using a similar blue coat in TTT and Belos's sensitivity to the coat being mentioned/ him always wearing it. There is no canon explanation as to how Caleb ended up alone with Philip, where their parents are, or how they got the cabin. It is unknown if Philip confronting Caleb in his beast form and Caleb's murder happened at the same time or on different days, or where Flapjack or Evelyn is for the murder (although she returns from the right, the same direction Philip was facing with the knife) (Hollow Mind). Flapjack has limited information but is likely Evelyn's bird (Dana Terrace). Caleb was a whittler and may have carved Palismen, as that later becomes the family business of the Clawthornes, and Evelyn is a Clawthorne. However this isn't provably canon.
May 23, 2025
Kensington has been back home in Michigan for almost two weeks now and Will had just come a few days ago and Ryan and Gabe were joining in a few days.
Kensington could feel her self slowly healing not only physically but mentally, she spent a lot of her days doing physical therapy and going to therapy as well.
She didn’t realize how much of a break she needed from hockey and she had a feeling she’s going to love the sport even more when she gets back on the ice but for now she’s okay being off the ice for a few months.
Kensington was still holding onto quite a bit of guilt over everything that happen the last season and she just can not seem to be able to let some things go, her therapist suggest a change to have a fresh start.
Kensington used her crutches coming out of her appointment to the car where her mom was waiting for her.
Kensington slowly sat down in the passenger seat, “Hi Mama.” She kissed her mom’s cheek.
“Hi sweetheart how did everything go?” Elena smiled softly loving how her daughter seems to becoming more and more herself.
“Good.” Kensington nodded and looked at her mother, “Do you have anything to do now?”
“No i’m free why?” Ellen asked as she started the car and pulled out of the parking spot.
“I uh was wondering if you could take me to the hair salon?” Kensington softly asked.
“You want to cut your hair?” Ellen questioned surprised as her daughter as always loved her long hair.
“I want a fresh start.” Kensington smiled at her mother.
“Ok.” Ellen smiled back quickly agreeing and driving to the salon they go to instead of going straight home.
Ellen parked the car in front of the salon and got out of the car, Kensington followed behind her mother using her crutches.
Ellen got Kensington all signed in with a stylist and let one of the employees guide Kensington to one of the salon chairs so she could sit down.
“Hi, I’m Tori.” A younger woman with bright red hair came over shaking Kensington’s hand.
“Kensington.” Kensington introduced herself smiling.
“So what are we doing with your hair today.” Tori asked as she touched Kensington’s hair.
“Chop it all off.” Kensington bluntly said with an excited smile.
“All of it.” Tori asked and Kensington gestured to right by her ears, “Okay let’s wash your hair and then we can get started.”
Kensington nodded and crunched her way over to the sink bowls and sat down leaning her head back and closed her eyes relaxing as she got her hair washed.
Kensington got back up after she got her hair washed and went back to the other chair and sat back down.
She closed her eyes and listened to the sound of her hair being cut off and she could literally feel the weight coming off as her hair continued to be cut.
“Okay all done.” Tori told her with a smile.
Kensington opened her eyes and a smile spread across her face as she saw her hair and she lifted her hand up feeling how light her hair feels now.
Her therapist was right. It felt like she got rid of so much bad memories and feelings.
Kensington thanked the hair stylist and crutched her way out to the waiting room where her mom is waiting.
Ellen looked up at the sound of crutches and gasped seeing her hair, “Oh my it looks so beautiful.” Ellen smiled as she stood up and gently touched her daughter’s hair.
Kensington giddy smiled at her mom and Ellen softened seeing her daughter become a little more herself again.
They got back into the car and headed back to home.
Ellen walked into the house first with Kensington behind her.
“Was everything okay?” Jim asked in concern when Ellen walked in and Kensington stayed outside the living room and they were back over a hour later than usual form therapy so it concerned the boys.
“Evening is fine.” Ellen reassured, “Kens has a surpise.” Ellen got the attention of the rest of the boys in the living room who were playing a video game together.
Kensington crutched into the living room seeing her dad, brothers and boyfriend all there and she grinned a little.
Will choked slightly as his eyes widen, he has always absolutely loved her long hair but he might change her short hair to his favorite.
Jack smiled getting up and walking over and gently touching her hair, “It looks very good K.”
“Thanks Jacky.” Kensington beamed.
“It suits you well.” Quinn softly complimented he thought the short hair looked very good on her.
“Not bad.” Luke smirked teasingly and Jack who was walking back to the couch smacked the back of Luke’s head making Kensington snicker.
Jim gave her an approving nod.
Jack teasingly nudged Will seeing him staring at Kensington with star eyes and his jaw half open.
Will shook his head snapping out of his day dream and got up and walked over to Kensington and saw her slighty nervous face for his reaction.
“I have a new favorite hair style of yours.” Will softly mused as he curled one of her short strands around his finger malign her beam happily at him with rosy cheeks.
Will leaned down pressing a soft and slow kiss to her cheek and softly mumbling to only her, “You look absolutely beautiful my gray.”
Kensington’s cheeks flashed darker and she hid her face against his shoulder feeling him chuckling.
Will chuckled fondly but brought Kensington over to the couch and helping her sit down slowly and setting her crutches onto the floor and and slipping her sandals off for her before plopping down onto the spot next to her.
Will wrapped an arm around her shoulder making her cuddle closer to him and rest her head on his chest.
“I love you.” Kensington softly mumbled to her boyfriend and best friend.
“I love you too.” Will smiled softly mumbling back kissing the top of her head as he gently rubbed her back.
Employee of the month
note: might continue just something I came up with.
Seo Jeno
You walked into your manager's office after knocking on his door and hearing a “come in” he had full focus on what he had displayed on his computer screen. You walked to his desk bowing slightly before setting the coffee he asked you to bring him. Jeno leaned back in his seat shifting his glasses in place as he looked up at you then back at the coffee. He picked it up and put it to his lips taking small sips before looking back up at you. You felt a wave of anxiety wash over you when didn't say anything but it went away when he smiled at you “first day on the job Y/N and i'm happy to say i'm not regretting it, now run along the project is due wednesday.” he said setting the cup back down. you quickly bowed before making your way out of his office with a proud grin.
About half an hour later
Your desk phone started ringing so you stopped writing the sentence you were halfway through with, and picked it up “hello, this is Y/N how may i be of assist-” you were cut off by a pained voice “Y-Y/N get your ass up here..”.
“Boss? I-im on my way!” you quickly set the phone down rushing up the stairs so you wouldn't get scolded. When you got to his door you knocked but this time there was no reply so you walked in. your eyes widened. Jeno had his tie loosened, his hair was messy and his shirt was unbuttoned. His face was flushed and red, sweat beads ran down his face and chest. “Y/N fuck, w-what was in that coffee?” He asked out of breath, you looked at the ground “just cream and sugar, the way you said you wanted it…” Suddenly you remembered a female worker asking you to check her work, you left her by his coffee. “It was sumi, she had to do it!”. “Well then hurry, and find out what she did” he said sternly groaning in pain, you felt pity towards him. “Okay, I'll be back”. Luckily you ran into her as soon as you walked into the hall “Sumi-ah!” she turned towards you and smirked “what did you do to the boss's coffee?” you asked irritated she shot you a sarcastic look of confusion before snapping her fingers as if she had remembered something “ohhhh that, it was just a bit of viagra not that big of a deal now go have some fun” she turned back around you glared at her as she walked down the hall swaying her hips. walking back into his office you start to bite on your bottom lip “i-i found out what it was…..it was viagra..and you should probably handle that” you point at the tent in his pants, he snickered and stood up “uh uh” he shook his head, you backed away as he started approaching you “you're not leaving until you fix this…” you end up pinned against the wall both of his arms were firmly planted on both sides of you. You looked to your left and thought about making a run for it. The door knob was only a few inches away. You look back up at Jeno and before thinking twice you ducked underneath his arm reaching your hand out and grabbing hold of the doorknob you twisted it a few times but it wasn't opening “its locked” he mumbled grabbed you pulling your waist onto his. “There's no getting out of this, darling”
Sort of belated, but it's still applicable somewhere I'm sure- Happy Halloween!
My optimistic Halloween deadline for chapter one of the werewolf fic has clearly not gone to plan, but it will be here soon! Like, before the week is out, if not tomorrow. And with a similar time frame, you all may receive photos of my Halloween costume this year! (It was Kim, if I hadn't stated that somewhere already; I just wasn't able to dye my hair for day, so I'll be taking better photos once that's done.)
The cover for chapter one is nearly done, and I was considering finishing and posting it before midnight came and went, but alas... instead, for the curious who just can't wait, here's a teaser!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And a bit of writing for you, although I want to note really quickly that I'm taking this but from the first draft on my phone and NOT the final cut. So there may be some tweaks in this passage when you see it in the coming days 👍
     After a moment of whirrs and chaotic sound, the signal came clear through, filling the room with the station's jaunty little opener as the host returned from break.
     "Welcome back, Toronto! Let's go ahead and recap today's forcast for those just tuning in: it's a brisk March morning out there today, be sure to wear a coat if you're headed out- and if you plan to be out late, be prepared for some snow later this afternoon or early tonight. Traffic reports seem to-" Kim listens as he drones on, mostly just keeping an ear out for anything along her route. Hearing nothing of the sort, she finishes her coffee and sets down the mug, stretching her arms up and back over her head. She fights a yawn and a wince as she does so, nearly biting her tongue at the pain she sparks stretching a bit too far. The ache spreads down her shoulders and back as she lets out a soft sigh, trying not to feel irritated with herself.
     Eventually, she gets up to set her mug in the sink, intending to wash it before heading out- but as her hand reaches for the faucet, the broadcast catches her attention once more, causing her to stop and listen.
     "In other news, there was apparently a rather gruesome display found in the Albion Hills Conservation Park early this morning. The bodies of several animals, primarily deer from what has been found so far, have been cropping up over the past few months in what seems to be the spree of some large, wild canine, experts warn. Attempts were made to track the creature, but so far all trails have turned cold. The park is still open, but caution has been advised if you're planning on camping in the area. Joining us now is-"
     The man's voice continues to drone on as Kim quietly sets the mug down in the sink, gripping the edge of the counter while Neil lets out a short whistle. "Wow. They're finally addressing it on the news, huh? Wonder how bad it must've been."
     Scott's puzzled voice rings out, a touch of fear in his tone. "Uh, addressing what? What's happening?"
     "You haven't heard? Last year or so, there's been this really strange string of animal deaths all around Toronto- people think they're connected."
     "Woah, really?"
     "Yeah. Some even say it's a werewolf." Neil leaned forward a little as he put emphasis on the term, lifting his hands up to mime ears atop his head.
      "How come I hadn't heard about this?"
     "Kind of a grim subject, man. Who'd want to talk about it? Besides, you have heard about it before. It's kind of a hot topic these days." Stephen's chair scrapes against the floor as he pushes back from the table; Kim scoots a little to the side and tries to school her expression, knowing he'll be heading towards her with his dishes.
     "What?! When? I feel like I'd remember that!"
     Thinking fast, Kim tries to put on her best shit starting grin, turning to address Scott. "Scott, you wouldn't remember it if the thing had leapt out of the bushes and bit you. The empty-headedness with which you float through life is fascinating, really."
     Stephen and Neil chuckle a little at that, adding to the intensity of Scott's frown. Crossing his arms, he scoffs, leaning back in his chair as he mutters to himself. "I'd totally remember if it'd done that- 'cause I would've kicked its butt, whatever it is..."
     Stephen shakes his head as he sets his things in the sink, reaching to turn the faucet on. He rolls up his sleeves as he lets the water run for a moment, looking at Kim out of the corner of his eye. "Hey, don't you have work today?"
     She nods once in response, thankful for the out, even though she didn't need it. She pushes herself away from the counter and makes her way out of the kitchen, throwing up a hand to wave on her way passed. "Try not to do anything fatally stupid- we've got band practice tomorrow."
     As she's slipping the strap of her bag over her head, she's pretty sure she hears Scott start to say something- but she doesn't have the time for it, genuinely; she's out the door and into the frosty air, taking in a deep and greedy breath to shock the senses. She lets herself have just a second to herself- then, she's off, brisk gait sure to have her sufficiently warmed against the chill by the time she reaches the video store.
So, yeah! Just a little sliver for ya. But again, barring anymore interruptions to my workflow, chapter one should be posted within a week! (And if it takes any longer than that, it'll be nearly double the length, probably, because it'll mean I've finished off the last chunk of what I'd originally plotted as chapter one.) Anyhow, if you're all the way down here reading this still, I feel like you might deserve another Treat for this Hallows Eve... hm....
Well, it's not open open yet, but if you want, you can check out the blog I've got reserved for all this! It will be an ask blog... I'm still workshopping the rules, but please: BEFORE YOU FOLLOW IT, READ THIS ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Great BreakDown of a February Olivia Plath Interview
youtube
Notes:
Olivia grew up believing that California was an evil place.
The interviewer pointed out that the show started with the older Plath children wanting to move away from the strict religious upbringing but now it seems that only Olivia is still wanting that distance. Olivia specifically notes that Moriah mostly dresses and eats different rather digging deep into family dysfunction and other more meaningful beliefs.
Olivia watched the first 3 seasons and stopped at season 4 because she felt that was a dark time and did not stand by some of her actions. It would have been a hard rewatch for her.
Olivia realized she was dissatisfied with life at age 14 or 15 but did not know why. She then realized she had no deep emotional connections. Around that time, she cut her hair to her shoulders and began wearing eyeliner (which was a no-no in her home). At 16 or 17, she apologized to her father and the church via a spoken letter.
Olivia met Ethan at a family conference. Years later, Ethan wrote a letter to Olivia's father. Olivia's father then called Kim (note: not Barry!) to discuss. The two families agreed that Ethan and Olivia could talk on Skype for one hour every three months.
Olivia has been dating! It is hard for her to get past the first date. She has been struggling with shame due to growing up in purity culture.
In regards to the statement Ethan made about how Olivia should be making 3 meals a day, more was said but cut out due to TLC avoiding politics. Olivia now asks men right off the bat if they cook.
The interviewer was confused when first watch the show. He did not understand why such a "pure" family would want reality tv fame. He then asked how Ethan and Olivia were approached with the idea.
Kim invited TLC to film Olivia and Ethan's wedding without asking because she knew Olivia would say no. It was not shown on the show, because to release, it required Ethan and Olivia's consent too. Ethan and Olivia then made a list of requirements to join the TV show. At this time, Olivia and Ethan could not see the siblings. In order to do the show, seeing the kids was added to the list.
Olivia will be in Season 6. She wants viewers to see what happens when someone actually walks away from the fundie lifestyle.
Olivia loves the TLC crew.
Olivia talks about the initial separation she had with Ethan. Ethan agreed they could live in 3 different places in 3 years.
Ethan agreed to marriage counseling during the first separation. He went to three sessions and then quit.
Olivia said Ethan said if his hypothetical son came out as gay, he would disown him. Olivia is strongly opposed to that.
Ethan tried to get her back during the divorce process but Olivia was not interested. They did not have any relationship at this point.
The Plaths allegedly had a party when they found out about the divorce.
Ethan is still very close with Nathan Meggs, Olivia's brother. Ethan heavily leaned on Nathan during the divorce, which affect Olivia's relationship with her brother.
Olivia still has a relationship with Ethan's extended family in Minnesota.
Olivia is willing to have a conversation with some Plaths to connect the storylines. Olivia said, "if this turns into a circus, I'm walking away" (quoting Moriah's song about her lol).
Olivia said WTP was not producer driven, rather "cast-members" drove the narratives of each season.
Olivia said 2023 was a tough year. In March, she split from Ethan. In May, her younger brother died unexpectedly and she had to see the Meggs family with whom she's estranged. In this February 2024 interview, she says she now has peace.
Olivia had not seen her family of origin in years, specifically her parents. Her parents have blocked her and all other siblings who have left the fold. She has not been able to talk to her youngest siblings, even her brother who died.
Lydia Meggs helped Olivia through their brother's death and funeral.
She is looking for a man who is okay for it to not be a forever thing.
Crack A Smile and Cut Your Mouth
Ledger!Joker Origin Story
Chapter Four - Desert Sands
Warnings: Depiction of 9/11
Chapter Summary: The US goes to war with Afghanistan and Jack gets called for his first deployment.
Author’s Note: This one was again shorter than I wanted it to be 😔 I didn’t outline this part of the story (chapters 3-5) well enough so I’m kinda winging it here. I really really want to write the upcoming chapters but I have to actually get there in the story first lol. Also I realized that haven’t updated this fic since May so I’m gonna work extra hard to get more chapters done this month. It will be easy since I have the future chapters outlined pretty well. Anyway, as always enjoy! <3
2 Years Later
Coming back from his usual morning PT, Jack entered the main building, sweaty and almost out of breath. He was just about to turn and go back to his quarters when soldiers gathered by the TV in the front lobby grabbed his attention. They looked concerned about something.
What’s wrong with them?
 Raising an eyebrow, he walked towards the commotion curiously. As he looked up, the images he saw on the television shocked him.
“Breaking news. A plane has crashed into the North tower of the World Trade Center. As of right now, 8:52 am, we have very little information on this incident. We still don’t know the cause of the crash, how many are injured, the people on the ground, etc. Updates will be made as they come.”
There were many gasps and confused murmurs among the soldiers. Soon a commanding officer came out into the lobby to restore order. He instructed everyone to get back to their respective areas, causing the soldiers to snap out of their daze and scurry out of the room at his orders.
As the morning went by, more reports came in. Another plane hit the South tower. That was when it became clear that this was no accident. The next one struck the Pentagon and lastly a plane intended to strike the capital was reclaimed by the passengers and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
Jack didn’t know what to think. The US was moved to defcon 3, which meant a state of readiness was put in place for all the military bases throughout the nation. Fort Benning was no different.
Everyone on base was shaken. Even the more experienced soldiers who’d seen the worst of combat many many times were shook. Nothing like this had ever happened before and so close to home.
Uncertainty was in the air before, but now it was brewing ten times stronger. As the days passed, war was most definitely imminent.
One Month Later
Running his fingers through his hair, Jack let out a frustrated groan. He dialed his home phone number and waited anxiously for an answer. Finally his mother picked up the phone.
“Hello?” Her meek voice answered.
“Mom?”
“Jack? Hi honey! How is everything?”
“Uh, good right now. But I have some news.”
He paused and took a breath. “I’m getting deployed in two weeks.”
“Oh… Where?”
Jack bit his lip. “Afghanistan.”
“Oh God.” Jacqueline barely managed to choke out.
She went quiet for a while and Jack could tell she was probably crying.
“For how long?” She finally asked.
“I don’t know. Nobody knows anything right now, Mom. It shouldn’t be more than a year though.”
“Alright. Call me before you deploy. Be strong. I love you.”
“I love you too, Mama.”
They said their goodbyes and Jack hung up. He sighed, wanting to punch a wall.
His duty called but that didn’t stop him from wanting nothing to do with this deployment. After a moment, he took a deep breath and composed himself.
This was his first deployment so he had no idea what to expect. He only had what people told him to go by. His mind was still processing the news that he was going since he was just informed this morning.
Man up, Jack. You signed up for this. It’s gonna be fine. Mom will be fine.
One of the soldiers on Jack’s squad poked his head in the room.
“Hey Napier, sergeant needs to see you.” He informed him.
“Okay. What for?” Jack asked as he walked towards the doorway.
The soldier shrugged. “I dunno. Probably more deployment stuff.”
Jack nodded and the other guy departed. He sighed and started down the hall to go see what his sergeant wanted.
Two Weeks Later
The hum of the aircraft’s engine buzzed in Jack’s ears as he gazed out the small window. The ocean below glimmered as the afternoon sun shone down. Jack had never flown before and even though the circumstances were bleak, he couldn’t help but admire the beauty beneath him.
Their destination was still several hours away so Jack was content to just sit and stare at the vast sea. Other soldiers were either sleeping or staring out the windows same as him. It was quiet inside the aircraft save for a few whispers here and there and the engines whirring.
Jack couldn’t help but worry about his mother. A few days ago she visited Fort Benning to see him before he deployed. She looked so distraught, like any mother knowing their son was going into combat would. She gave him so many hugs and kisses that day.
Jack thought it was a little much but he understood why she would be upset so he didn’t complain. He hugged her right back and assured her that he would be fine. After she left, his concern became more focused on her, not himself.
Ever since he left home he worried about her. But this time not only was he away from home, he was out of the country. He couldn’t be there if something happened to her or if Scott did anything. That thought gave him more anxiety than his current situation.
Several long hours later, the sun was beginning to set and the base was in sight. The aircraft landed with a jolt and everyone began piling out, awaiting instruction.
Jack stretched, relieved from sitting for so long, and took in his surroundings. The landscape was nothing but sand for miles in every direction. He looked up and not a single cloud was in the sky. The air was cooler than he expected but then he remembered deserts were cold at night. In contrast the sand felt hot against his boots. It hadn’t yet lost its heat from the sun.
The barracks in the base weren’t that bad. Certainly better than a rock in the middle of the desert. Jack knew it wouldn’t always be like this. The coming days when he would eventually be called into battle would definitely be worse.
But he couldn’t think like that. He just had to suck it up and deal with it. Worry causes things to go wrong and that’s what gets you killed. He refused to die here. No way.
Jack diverted his attention to making his bed. That would keep his mind off the coming days. Sure repressing emotions wasn’t healthy but it sure was convenient.
Once everyone settled in for the night, Jack laid on his bunk and stared at the gray ceiling. He tried to get to sleep but he just couldn’t. The worry was consuming him. He had a lot to think about. His mother, himself, what was gonna happen…
He forced himself to take a breath and slow his thoughts.
It’s going to be fine. You will be fine. You’re making it worse by worrying. Nothing good ever comes from that. Just calm down.
His mental pep talk seemed to appease his mind for a while. At last letting his anxieties drift away, he began to fall asleep. He had no idea what was ahead but at this moment it didn’t matter anymore. He wanted rest so he was getting it. And he would need it for the hellish days to come.
Happy @boblinweek! Here’s my contribution to Day 1: Relaxed/Cozy. Just a little early morning drabble about my favorite couple 🫶
Streetlight filtered in through the window, casting across the floor and the bottom half of the bed. Bob wasn’t sure what had woken him up, a natural stirring as he always tended to be up just a few minutes before his alarm went off. He rolled onto left his side, pulling the blankets with him as his hand searched for the pull string of his bedside lamp. The sun was not up yet - wouldn’t even think of coming up for another two hours probably, but it was time to start his day. He had to start breakfast, and wake Tina up so she could get in the shower. He’d only have 10 or 15 minutes to himself before Gene and/or Louise would be up, and Linda would take over getting the kids ready for school. Linda. He could hear her snoring softly beside him, feel the warmth radiating off her skin against his. He hesitated, glancing at the alarm clock. It would go off in just a few minutes. Still, a few minutes was all he needed.
He rolled back onto his back, then turned to face Linda. He watched her chest rise and fall rhythmically with her breaths, her breasts almost exposed by the top of the red night gown she was wearing. He put his hand on her thigh, running it up her leg and over her stomach under the gown. He could feel the crevices of her skin, stretch marks from where her belly had grew and shrank exponentially in size as she had carried each of their children. He loved those stretch marks, he always made sure to spend ample time kissing and stroking them as they laid in bed together - whether or not they were going to get frisky.
He wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her sleeping figure closer to him. He laid his head on the pillow next to hers, face mere centimeters from the crook of her neck. He could smell the lingering eucalyptus scent of her face cream- the same one she had worn for the last five years. It was a smell he had come to associate with her, along with fresh cotton laundry detergent and a lingering vanilla smell that she had developed when she was still pregnant with Tina - when they had first become a family. He wasn’t sure if it was her natural scent, vanilla, or if it was some long standing beauty product she used. It seemed like every year after 35 had come with a new step to her night time routine. It took her an hour, easy, to get into bed on a full routine night. He couldn’t complain too much, though. She was as radiant and beautiful as she had been that night they had met in the bar all those years ago.
He laid there watching his wife sleep, the mother of his children, the love of his life. He took in her scents, the feel of her skin against his, and way the streetlight came in through the window and shone on her black hair, and he just breathed. In, and out in long, deep breaths as he savored the moment. God knew it hadnt always been easy for the Belchers. Hell, it hadn’t ever been easy. That didn’t matter to Bob though, as long as he got to wake up every morning next to Linda. As long as every morning they got to start their day together, corralling their absolutely wild children out the door to experience what ever may come.
He was so relaxed he was almost completely asleep a few minutes later when his alarm rang out, cutting the quiet still air of the room. Linda stirred in her spot, pushing against his arm in an attempt to get away from the awful sound. He let go of her to grope for the snooze button. Yes, they would all be running late later on, but that probably would have happened anyway. Everything else could wait just a few more minutes, he just wanted to stay right here in bed.
Linda settled back against him, turning into the warmth he was emitting. Her face pressed against his chest, he could feel her breaths tickling his chest hairs. He pushed some of her dark hair out of her face, tucking it back behind her ear. He leaned down to gentle press a kiss to her forehead, lingering there for a second as he smelled her floral shampoo. This was the only place he wanted to be.
18+ MINORS AND THOSE WITHOUT AGE IN BIO DNI
chapter 5
tags: @illiana-mystery
Warnings: warnings: warnings: swearing, divorce, suggestive jokes, Roman makes self deprecating jokes (mostly about his weight and money situation), smoking, drinking, Roman gets turned on, Kate is her own warning here
I knocked on Roman's door, rocking on my heels as I fidgeted with my shirt. The sleeves had been stretched out with holes cut for my thumbs. A long leather jacket was thrown on top and my black jeans clung to my legs. My boots were loosely tied and thick black eye liner brought out my eyes. It had taken more time than I wanted to tease my hair out the way Eric had taught me but the end result was pretty cool. I only ever really dressed like this when Eric asked me to come to a gig but it was fun. Roman finally opened his door and his jaw dropped. My face heated up as Roman looked me over.
"Wow." He breathed out. "You look...wow." I smiled sheepishly and ducked my head. "I mean it. I just can't think of any words to describe you right now." Roman said, a light blush taking over his face.
"Thanks." I said softly. "Eric's band plays at this punk goth bar most of the time and its just a fun excuse to dress up sometimes." I shrugged. Roman nodded then bit his lip.
"We have a bit of time right?" I nodded.
"Yeah. I just figured we'd get to the venue early so you can properly meet Eric and Shelly. Why?" Roman ushered me into his apartment.
"Because I wanna change." He said as I walked through the door. I looked around and smiled to myself. "I'm sure I have a black shirt somewhere." Roman disappeared through what I assumed was his bedroom door and I moved towards his fireplace. There were pictures lining the mantle. Cara and Mara sat on his lap in one and I smiled at the one of them in what only could be school pictures. I saw one that had been ripped, but showed what had to be the whole family. "Yeah I ripped Kate out of that one." Roman said, scaring me slightly as he came back. “I got really pissed at her when we divorced. Best way I could take out that frustration." I turned back towards him and smiled as I looked him over, making it his turn to blush.
“you look good.” I said. Roman shrugged. “Seriously. You do.” He nodded towards the door and I followed him down to his car. “Only thing that’s missing is the eyeliner and teasing your hair.” Roman made a face and I laughed. “Maybe one day.” He held my door open for me and I bit my lip as I got in the car. Roman waited for me to give him directions before heading out of the garage. “This may be a bit heavier than what you normally listen to but I can guarantee it’ll be worth it.” I said after Roman had gotten on the highway.
“yeah?” He asked. I nodded. “So how long have you known those two?”
“oh as long as I’ve worked at the museum.” I said. “I met Eric first. He introduced me to Shelly about a month later when she got moved to the front desk.” Roman glanced over at me.
“sounds like the two of you have a history.” He said. “Any dark secrets I could convince either to tell me?” I laughed and shrugged.
“Shelly would need to be good and drunk I think. Eric well…” I rolled my eyes. “Eric just needs the right bribe.”
“noted.” Roman laughed. He reached over and picked up my hand. He kissed the back of it before intertwining our fingers. “I’m excited. Seriously. I think tonight is going to be fun.”
“it will. Eric always puts on a great show.” I confirmed. “Oh. By the way. The band is called hangman’s joke.”
“interesting name.” Roman said. I nodded.
“Turn here.” I said as Roman neared the stop light. “This is the place.” Roman looked over the building and I smiled as I got out of the car. “Welcome to the cemetery.” Romans eyes went wide for a second before he nodded, reaching for my hand again. I interlaced our fingers as we walked in. “I’m on the list. Eric draven invited me.” The bouncer nodded.
“why do you always do that (Y/N)?” He asked with a laugh. I shrugged.
“makes it more fun. And it makes him feel bigger than shit.” I laughed. “Roman this is heath. He’s usually here as a bouncer when Eric plays.”
“I’m the only bouncer who will put up with him.” Heath teased as he held his hand out to Roman. “This the waiter? The one you keep going back to that shitty diner for? Shelly told me about that. Said you thought he was hot shit.” I felt my cheeks heat up and sheepishly looked away. “Ah it is! Shelly said you’d be bringing him. Time you found someone.”
“shut up heath.” I muttered, smiling at him as I started to push past. “Say hi to the wife for me.” Heath nodded and let us pass. “So uh heaths a pretty nice guy. Takes too many dates to the museum but I think that’s more to bother Eric and Shelly when they work. He loves us though. Thinks of us as his kids.” Roman nodded, a smiled plastered on his face. “Ah shut up.”
“so im hot shit?” He asked, laughter clear in his voice. I rolled my eyes.
“like I said. Shut up.” Roman moved closer to me the more into the crowd we got. His arm made its way over my shoulders and I snuggled into him, wrapping my arm around his waist. “Bars over in the corner if you wanna grab something. Just have them put it on Eric’s tab.” I waved in the general direction of the bar. Roman nodded as we came up to the stage. Shelly saw us and rounded the curtain to let us through the rope. “Hey!” I said, letting go of Roman to hug her. “What’s wrong?” I cocked my head at the look of worry on her face.
“Moes sick.” Eric said, hugging me and shaking hands with Roman. “I need you to play.” I shook my head.
“not a chance Eric. We can here to watch you. I’m on a date.” I countered. Eric rubbed his eyes before pushing his hair back.
“and there’s no watching me if there’s no guitar player (Y/N). Please. Just for tonight.” Eric pleaded. I pushed my hand over my forehead and up to my hairline. Roman bumped my shoulder.
“I did say I wanted to see you play.” He said. I gave him a look and he squeezed my shoulder. “Come on (Y/N). Please. For me.” Roman pulled me closer and kissed my cheek. My cheeks grew warm and I nodded.
“ok. Ok. Fine.” I said. “I’ll play. But only tonight.” I pointed a finger at Eric. “And you owe me. Big time.” Eric hugged me and lifted me off the ground.
“thank you!” He cheered. “Now come on. We need to do sound check and get ready.” He took my hand and tugged me along.
“stay with Shelly! I’ll come find you after the show. I promise Roman!” I called back as Eric pulled me behind the curtain. Roman was smiling as I disappeared. “Thanks for ruining date night Eric.” I grouched as I slung moes guitar over my shoulder. I adjusted the strap and went about tuning it.
“I know. I’m sorry.” Eric said, a small grin on his face.
“no you’re not asshole.” I shot back. “Alright. Ready.” We warmed up as everyone bustled around the stage, prepping our setup and getting us ready to go. Eric looked at me one last time before the curtain went up. I nodded and played the opening chord, starting the show. ——————-Roman POV——————————
Shelly led me towards a corner of the floor next to the stairs leading to the stage. Apparently it was the perfect place to watch the show without having to deal with the rest of the crowd.
“Does this happen often?” I asked her. Shelly laughed.
“every other show.” She explained. “It’s why (Y/N) gets so pissed off at Eric about it. He needs a real back up guitarist but he refuses to hire one. I honestly believe he thinks (Y/N) is always going to be there to fill in. But they’re gonna get outta here one day. And he’s going to have to accept that.” I nodded, wondering if they would want me along when they left. “Don’t worry Roman. They like you too much to just disappear on you.” I blushed.
“didn’t realize I was being that obvious.” I laughed, rubbing the back of my neck. “I really like them. My kids like them. I just…” I sighed and glanced at the stage. The curtain was still down. “When I first started dating my ex it wasn’t like this. It was a slow build up. I didn’t even really like her much when we first started dating. I saw her maybe twice in that first month because I was so unsure about how I felt about her.” Shelly put her hand on my arm and rubbed circles into my bicep. It didn’t feel as comforting as when (Y/N) did it but it was confronting nonetheless. “With (Y/N)…” I laughed. “I’ve seen them everyday since I worked up the courage to talk to them at the diner. It helps we live in the same building but I’m just drawn to them. Everything about them…” I laughed. “I sound like a fucking rom com love interest.” Shelly smiled softly at me. “For the first time in my life I know exactly what I want to do and who I want to be with. And it’s (Y/N). I just want to make them happy.”
“trust me Roman. They haven’t been this happy in a long time.” She assured me. She was about to say something else when the lights went down and the curtains went up. A guitar started and two spotlights appeared. Eric appeared and Shelly cheered. I clapped even though he wasn’t the one playing. I squinted at the stage and gasped when (Y/N) appeared. My eyes flew to the neck of the guitar, watching their fingers fly across the board. I gulped as I watched them, blood rushing to my cheeks. Shelly screamed next to me as Eric stepped up to the microphone but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from (Y/N).
“wow.” I breathed out. Shelly elbowed me and smiled up at me.
“told ya.” She yelled above the music. I nodded slowly as I felt blood start to rush elsewhere. I bit my lip and dug my nails into the palm of my hands. Shelly was standing right next to me. She would know. She would know and then tell (Y/N) how I got a hard on just from watching them play guitar. I kept staring at them, trying to think of the most unattractive things I could, and praying the show would end soon.
———————-regular POV——————————-
I looked out over the crowd as I stepped up to the edge of the stage, getting ready for my solo. I smiled down at Roman and he gave me a strained one. My eyebrows furrowed before I let my eyes drift down his body. I bit my lip as I noticed the slight hard on he had. Shelly winked at me and I winked back before losing myself in the music. Eric’s voice trailed behind my guitar line and I closed my eyes. The show flew by and before I knew it, Eric had grabbed my hand and led me into the final bow. I dashed off stage to put the guitar down. Eric hugged me tightly once it was back in its case.
“Thank you!” He breathed out. I pushed on his chest. “Thank you!”
“yeah. I get it. Now let go of me you goof.” I finally pushed him off me and grabbed a towel to wipe some of the sweat off. “And don’t you dare ask me to join the band officially. The answer is always going to be no.” Eric shrugged as he toweled his hair. Shelly came running backstage and right to Eric. I shook my head as they kissed, tossing the towel to the side. I looked to the side as Roman appeared behind the curtain.
“hey.” He said. I smiled at him as he walked over. Roman held his arms open after glancing at the couple behind me. I shook my head.
“no way.” I laughed. Roman shrugged and moved closer. “Roman don’t. I’m sweaty and stinky and gross.” Roman wrapped his arms around my waist and I gently pushed his chest. “Roman.” I whined, only resulting in Roman tightening his hold on me. “Come on.”
“I could kiss you right now.” Roman whispered. I stared at him and stopped pushing at his chest. His eyes shown and he gulped as I took in what he said.
“Why don’t you?” I whispered back, wrapping my arms around his neck. Roman smiled and leaned in. I threaded my fingers through his hair as Roman kissed me. I sighed through my nose before relaxing into Roman. We pulled away with a small laugh. “I guess there goes my argument huh?” Roman nodded before pressing his forehead against mine.
“yeah.” Roman breathed out. “Although that doesn’t help my little problem.” I giggled as I played with his hair.
“Oh I saw that. You’re lucky no one else did.” I said, pecking his lips. “Who knew watching me play would get you turned on.”
“Not me.” Roman blushed. “If I had I wouldn’t have pushed you to play here. We would have been at my apartment instead.” I laughed before breaking away.
“We’re gonna head out.” I said, linking my arm with Roman’s as we walked over by Eric and Shelly. “Try to salvage what’s left of our date night.” I stepped closer to Roman.
“it was a great show though.” Roman added. “I’d love to see it with the full band.” Eric nodded with a laugh.
“of course. Have this one here bring you to the next show. Moe should be better by then.” I rolled my eyes.
“what? So you can rope me into playing for you again?” I teased. “Hell no.” Eric shook his head and hugged me again before shaking Roman’s hand.
“nice properly meeting you man. Bout time (Y/N) felt comfortable bringing someone around us.” Eric said as Shelly nodded. Roman blushed and wrapped his arm over my shoulder. I leaned into him and wrapped my arms around his waist. Roman kissed my head.
“see ya at work tomorrow.” Shelly said, reaching out and squeezing my arm. “Enjoy the rest of the night lovebirds.” I felt my face heating up and turned my head to press against Roman’s shoulder. He chuckled and we turned to head out.
“don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!” Eric yelled after us. “Ow! What was that for?!” I laughed, knowing Shelly had to have hit his chest.
“so where do you want to go?” Roman asked. We got into his car and he turned to look at me. “Anywhere you want. Whatever you want.” I reached over and cupped his cheeks.
“would you think terribly of me if I said I wanted to go back to your apartment and make out?” Roman blushed and shook his head.
“nope.” He said. “I was thinking the same I just didn’t want to…y’know.” He stared at me as I laughed.
“good.” I said, closing the gap and kissing him deeply. “Let’s go!” I sat back in my seat with a bounce and Roman laughed as he started the car. He pushed the limit of the traffic laws to get us back to our building. “I seriously did not expect you to want to kiss me when I looked like this.” Roman had his arm over my shoulder and I was hugging him tightly again. He laughed as we got off the elevator.
“hey blame the raging hard on.” Roman teased. “I had no idea you looked so good playing guitar. I can’t wait to see just you playing.” I smiled at him as he blushed. “I mean without all the makeup and whatnot. The you I see everyday at the diner. When you look plain…and I’m shutting up now.” I laughed before kissing him.
“I understand what you mean.” I said, patting his chest. “I just can’t believe me being sweaty and gross don’t bother you. Or that you aren’t forcing me to go to my own apartment and shower right now. We’re close enough.”
“I wouldn’t do that to you.” Roman said. “Besides I’m a little partial to this number.” He picked at my shoulder and I laughed. He chuckled before kissing me again.
“well well well.” Roman and I broke apart, looking in front of his door and seeing a woman standing there. “If it isn’t my ex husband and his new…”
“Kate. Don’t.” Roman growled. I stood there, arms wrapped around him and staring down Roman’s ex wife.
Scrimbly Jacqueline 44/52: Halloween scrimbly! Jack and Jacqueline are gonna kill it at the Legend-Legate Halloween Party because yes, Jacqueline did indeed get Jack on board...
Tumblr media
All he had to do was dare her to cut her hair for it! It went a little like this...
🎃👻🍷🥳✨
It started, (as most things did for her, weirdly enough) with a sprite sleep.
It wasn’t out of the ordinary. Especially this close to Spring’s approach. Work ramped up for Jacqueline and like, nine out of ten times Dite would be startled by a large thump out in the atrium, only to see her girlfriend COVERED in snow laying face down by the pond.
“Long day?”
“SO long and I am SO tired. I can’t even make it to the bedroom. What EVER will a cute LIGHT AS A FEATHER sprite like me do~”
Apparently, roll over, throw the back of her hand over her forehead and pout with really big cute eyes right at Dite.
“Well it’s a GOOD THING your fluffy, tall, and VERY strong girlfriend is here to rescue you.” She knelt down, picked her up bridal style and flew the pair of them right to her rarely used bed.
“Boop!”
“Hehe. Boop.”
A finger came up, booped her nose, and in seconds Jacqueline was passed out, a welcome chilly presence against Dite’s side.
They stayed cuddled like that for a while. Dite amused herself in the meantime. Stole Jacqueline's phone and scrolled through the tag she had for stuff to show Dite later. Let her brother know where she was, threatening him under pain of death should he try to wake his sister up and bring her back out into the field (he promised he wouldn’t and said he, too, was in hiding and Winter was who they had to watch out for). Checked in with Elle, since, y’know, Jacqueline’s phone was RIGHT THERE and Dite knew her url. Napped for a bit.
But when it became apparent that Jacqueline’s sprite sleep was just that, and would last more than half a day, Dite wriggled her way out and shifted to watch mode.
It was quite fun, really. Keep up with her notifications, place sweets on the bedside tables to see if they’d rouse the sprite (and they did but Dite always missed it by THAT MUCH, only knowing Jacqueline had eaten the treats based on crumb distribution), re-tuck her in every so often, cuddle when Dite decided sure, why not, she could totally sleep for a bit! You know, that sort of thing.
And while keeping vigil at her side, Dite booted up her PS4 and played her very favourite game possibly ever: Hades.
She lost count of how many runs she did. But she got a fair way along in the storyline by the time Jacqueline woke up. So much so that she didn’t even notice the sprite rouse and slowly make her way to the edge of the bed. And she must’ve been there for a hot minute because it wasn’t until Dite had dealt the final punch onto Learnie that she realized her girlfriend was awake and watching, and NOT because she had noticed calmly while button smashing. No.
It was because the moment Learnie exploded, Jacqueline made a noise that may have been a purr? And said, “Mm. That's hot.”
Right in Dite’s ear.
Needless to say, Dite was startled. So much so her flight and fight response kicked in and she shot into the air, longbow drawn, arrows ALREADY LAUNCHED before she realized what had happened.
“Oh! Oh no! Jacqueline! I’m so sorry!”
“It’s okay, it’s okay!” Jacqueline pulled an arrow out of the bed, feathers flying about. “It’s fine! I scared you! My bad. I knew you were in the zone but didn’t realize how in the zone you really were—hhh.”
The breath escaped the sprite as Dite grabbed her in a very tight hug. Emphasis on the tight.
“Dite. Dite. I need to breath—” the top of her head was wet. Why was it wet? Was Dite—
“I’m s-s-sorry!”
“Oh, sweetheart, you don't have to cry about it!” Wiggling out of Dite’s grip (a challenge in itself), Jacqueline managed to throw her arms around the goddess’s neck and squish her nice and tight. “I’m okay! Really.”
She pulled back and held onto Dite’s face, wiping the wet off her cheeks and immediately booping noses.
“Boop!”
Dite laughed. “You’re so cute.” sniffling, she wiped the rest of the wet away, fanning her face. “Whew. Okay. Okay. Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Positive! It’s just a couple arrows.” She pulled another one out of the bed. “And I’m slippy.”
Laughing, Dite pulled her close and kissed the top of her head. “Okay! If you insist.”
“Which I do. You’re playing Hades? That game you've been telling me about for like. GOD. Two years at this point?”
“Yep!” Chipper, Dite floated back down to the bottom of the bed, picking up the controller and popping Zagreus up to the next level. “It was a fun way to spend the time while you slept. How long have you been watching?”
“I woke up to a you died screen. Very disorienting. But then I got to watch you go through the underworld! Nyx is hot. So is Achilles. Like, everyone in that house was pretty hot.”
“If you think that, just wait! There’re a bunch of characters that weren’t in the house during that run! Wait until you see Thanatos. You’re gonna think he’s so hot”
Grabbing the blanket and wrapping it around herself like a cloak, Jacqueline picked up her phone, plopping down to sit beside Dite as she continued her run.
“It’s been a while since you played it.”
“It has! I got busy and I’d beaten the main plot. Now I’m doing the epilogue plot! And I’ve added some heat to make it harder, which is why I died so soon! One of the bosses was given a chariot and a MACHINE GUN. I think. And I was NOT ready for it.”
“Why did you pick it back up again? Had the urge?”
“All MONTH actually! They announced a sequel.”
“They did?”
“Yeah! It looks super cool! Here, let me show you the trailer.”
Pausing the game, she pried Jacqueline’s phone out of her hand, pulling up the Hades 2 sneak peek. Jacqueline watched with rapt interest, eyes going big.
“Woah. That looks dope.”
“Right? And it looks like it has a LOT more gameplay and I am SO EXCITED! I can’t wait until it goes into beta! I’m hoping I can play it during pre-release. I think you’ll really like it, too.”
“Really?”
“Yeah! The protagonist uses MAGIC! AND she’s trying to rescue her family! She’s Zagreus’s little sister.”
“Oh, cute! Maybe I’ll keep tabs on it then, if you think I’ll like it. And also, magical little sister. LOVE that.”
Dite giggled. “I thought you would. Wanna try playing the first one?”
“Maybe later. For now, I am perfectly content sitting right here and watching you play.” Pecking Dite’s cheek, she grabbed her phone back and opened it up, catching up on messages.
“What did you do to my recent emojis?”
“Don’t worry about it!”
🎃👻🍷🥳✨
It had also started small.
After their brief chat, Jacqueline didn’t really show any more interest in the game, though she was happy to start her own save and do a run or two or five. Which Dite had expected, of course! Jacqueline always liked up close combat and was a big fan of button smashing (you had to be when you played Super Smash Bros with her younger siblings. They were FAST—but Jacqueline was faster and Dite, even faster!) and Hades was full of button smashing.
And incredibly hot characters, according to Jacqueline. Dite took her word for it.
At any rate, Dite was not prepared for the ensuing love the sprite ended up having for the game’s sequel. Not until she got back from work to...WAY too many missed texts from Jacqueline.
DITE IT ENTERED EARLY ACCESS
I gotta pay for it? WHACK.
GUESS WHAT I JUST DID
OH GIRL IT’S DOWNLOADING
I can't find my ding dang controller
I STOLE YOUR BLUE ONE! SORRY BABE XOXO
Oh girl. GIRL. It’s so cool
Oh it’s so FUN
Okay. Just got my ass whooped.
OKAY WOW YEAH super different mechanics but like, really fun. She has this cool thing that I think replaces Zag’s cast basically? But it’s like a big sigil looking thing and it KEEPS THE LIL GUYS FROM MOVING ABOUT! I love it
NEW GODS
THEY’RE HOT
SOME OF THEM LITERALLY
I don't wanna give you too many spoilers but lmk if you’re free tonight? I’ll bring my laptop! And return your controller. Maybe. Idk it’s my favourite shade of blue, so...😈😈😈
There was a brief gap, according to the timestamps. Enough for a couple of runs, Dite guessed. The messages continued after, borderline unintelligible (Dite thanking the gods for small miracles like autocorrect as she read on).
Oh
Oh NO
DITE
DITE SHE NEVER GOT TO MEET HE R BROTHER
SJVHUHVUI
VUUEAKCJWNE
ASDFGHJKL
I’M SO SAD AND HEARTBROKEN OMG
SHE DIDNT GET TO MEET HER BROTHER? NOW SHE HAS TO GO SAVE HIM? SHE’S NEVER GOTTEN TO MEET ZAG?? I THOUGHT THEY HAD LIKE SOME TIME TOGETHER BEFORE CHRONOS BUT APPARENTLY NOT???
OH SHE’S SO CUTE WHEN SHE’S LITTLE I’M 🥺😭🤯
Another bout of silence before the final string of texts.
...girl I'm hooked.
I'm OBSESSED
I need the full game SO BAD
MELINOË 😭🥺😭🤩🤩🌨😭🧜🏻‍♂️
That seemed to be the end of it. Dite giggled to herself, quickly typing a few replies.
Well the good news is now, you own the full game! Yay💕💕💕! We should share Steam libraries if we haven’t already! 😘😘
So sorry for the late replies, blue eyes! 💙💙 It's high season for me! But I'm home now and yes, absolutely free.
What do you want for dinner? I can grab something or make something and we can hole up here for the night! Just you, me, and the sequel to critically acclaimed god-like, rogue-like dungeon crawler game Hades 2! 💙💖⚔
Also the controller is your favourite shade of blue because I got it for you, silly! 😘💕
The replies were instantaneous.
Is for me? YAY! 😁😁😁
I’ll be right over!
Can we do Za from that place by the tower of Pisa? 🥺🥺🥺
🍕🍕🍕🍕
Dite laughed.
Sure! I’ll grab it and meet you back here?
😎🆒
And that was Jacqueline for yes.
🎃👻🍷🥳✨
It was obvious once she’d returned with the pizza that Jacqueline was absolutely ENAMOURED with the game. The love radiated off of her in waves as she talked about it!
And talk about it she did. The pair of them spent the entire evening and well into the morning taking turns doing runs, guessing story beats, and trying to see who could make it farther out in the runs each in-game night.
By the time the sun rose down below them, Jacqueline had unlocked the path up to Olympus, and BOTH girls had squealed in excitement (enough to upset several cherubs as they flew away angrily. One even hissed).
They’d called it there, then. Angry cherubs made for a bad time.
But that certainly didn’t stop Jacqueline.
🎃👻🍷🥳✨
Whether with Dite or on her own, Jacqueline could not get enough of the game. It was like Dite said; she was enamoured with it. She loved it on its own, and she loved how much fun she had when playing it alongside Dite.
And maybe, just maybe, she felt a bit for Melinoë.
Whatever the case, it fast became one of her favourite games and was very much on the mind when talk of the Legend-Legate Halloween party came up once more.
For the last almost fifteen years running, Santa had been joining the festivities given that he now had a Legate of his own.
And for the last near fifteen years running, Santa and Charlie had won the costume contest every. Single. Time.
So when July came around and Halloween hit the shelves, talk of the costume party came up once more amongst Jacqueline and her Legend, the Big Bother himself.
It’d become a regular lament around this time of year.
See, she and Jack had won the contest since their first year both attending post reunion. They had held onto the trophy for a couple of sweet, sweet years when Charlie got his Legate status and he and Santa swooped in and managed to steal the trophy every goddess damned year.
“And I am tired of it, Jacqueline! I mean, the only reason they’re winning is because they have  SEVERAL departments FILLED with costume experts, I mean, come on. It simply isn’t fair!”
And sure, maybe Jack had a point. But like, they were using the resources they had at their disposal so like. You know. Why not.
Jacqueline had said as much, only for Jack to grumble and glower and tell her to stop defending the enemy.
“In fact, you should stop fraternizing with the enemy, too! No Charlie hangouts until after Halloween.”
Jacqueline had bit her tongue. Swallowing her laughter, she cleared her throat.
“Okay, but like, if I do that…how will we know our enemy? We can’t defeat them if we don’t know them, you know?”
“No, I don’t know! Good point! Okay, fine. Keep fraternizing. We’ll see who fraternizes last.”
Jacqueline snorted. “What the frost does that mean?!”
“I’m having a moment, Jacqueline! You think I know what the things I say mean when I’m having a moment?!?! Honestly. Where’s the support!”
He’d gone on for another good twenty minutes, much to Jacqueline’s amusement. Finally, though, he had eased off, and chit chat returned to the regular gossiping and bitching as they made sure to keep the snowcapped mountains…well. Capped with snow.
Of course, before finishing for the night Jack had once again reminded her to start thinking of a costume that would beat the Calvin-Claus duo once and for all.
It was distracting her something fierce that evening. She’d already lost two death defies to Chronos! TWO! And that hadn’t happened in like, the last ten Underworld runs. Goddess above, the costume thing shouldn’t be bothering her that much.
Finally getting the last hit in on Chronos, Jacqueline sighed. She piloted Melinoë around the decrepit House of Hades, really wishing the game was fully out. She was dying to see how gameplay would work re: saving the rest of Melinoë’s family. She also really, really wanted to reunite her with Zag! She couldn’t WAIT to see the plotlines and the arcs and the—
Oh. Now there’s a thought.
Sending Melinoë back to the Crossroads, Jacqueline sat up straight.
She knew exactly what costumes would give them the trophy this year.
🎃👻🍷🥳✨
“DITE!”
“JACQUELINE!”
“I JUST HAD A BRILLIANT IDEA.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah! I can trust you, right?”
Dite laughed. “We are literally dating, Jacqueline. Of course you can trust me! Why wouldn’t you be able to?”
“Because this isn’t your run of the mill Jacquie brand idea. This is serious stuff, Dite. This is...Halloween related.”
“Oh! You’ve thought of a costume for you and Jack? For the Legend-Legate party?”
“YES! And I think it’ll have a really good chance at winning the whole thing.”
Dite’s wings fluttered. “That’s wonderful! What’s the catch?”
“For this to work, there are two big things I have to do. The first one: use what I have at my disposal which is a literal goddess of a girlfriend.”
Dite flicked her ponytail. “Hedone is at your service!”
“I like that you added the sparkles.”
“You don’t think that was too much?”
“No! Not at all! I loved it!”
Dite grinned, hovering. “Yay! So what do you need from me?”
“Access to godly forages and godly resources.”
“Done! We’ll check in with Mom’s side of the family, they’ll probably let us do more nonsense than Dad’s side. So what’s number two?”
“I need to convince Jack to do it.”
“Why is that?”
“I think we should go as Mel and Zag.”
Dite brightened. “Oh! Oh, I love that idea! That’s so cute! We can make the weapons HERE and we’ve got TONS of reference material to get the fits JUST RIGHT and I can find some laurels for you both that’ll REALLY make the look proper godly, ou, it’s going to be SO FUN. I bet Jack’ll go for it!”
“I know if worse comes to worse I can guilt him about it but that’s not really how I want to go about doing it, you know? At least, not seriously.”
“Well, how about a PowerPoint?”
Jacqueline blinked. “Oh, shit! That is a great idea! I fucking love PowerPoints!”
🎃👻🍷🥳✨
And that’s how, months later, Jack found himself at Jacqueline’s recently-restored-forgotten-about-house, seated on the huge sofa and watching as Jacqueline set up a PowerPoint presentation on the TV, Dite grinning like a maniac beside him.
“And…there we go! Open up!”
The PowerPoint loaded.
“Why Jack and Jacqueline Should Attend the Legend-Legate Party as Zagreus and Melinoë from critically acclaimed, god-like, rogue-like game Hades and its sequel, Hades 2. That’s a bit of a mouthful, don’t you think?”
“But it gets the point across, right?”
“Jacqueline, I don’t even know who these characters are.”
“Well good news for you: The first half of this PowerPoint will make sure you know just that. We’ll start with the first game, because that’s where your character comes from: Zagreus, Prince of the Underworld!”
By some miracle, Jack actually sat through the entire slideshow, paying rapt attention and interrupting a minimal amount and learning quite a bit. Dite was more than happy to compare the game to both sides of her family in real life, much to Jack’s amusement. By the time Jacqueline made her way through the Hades 2 portion, Jack had a pretty good working knowledge of the characters and the game. Games, that is.
“So! In conclusion! Here’s why we should go as these two. One: they’re siblings, so are we! Two: they’re MAGICAL siblings. So are we! Three. They are INSANELY hot. Four: LOOK at how BADASS their fits are! Five: the big ass weapons are DOPE and WILL get us bunny votes. Six: I’ve gone ahead and pulled a Santa and Charlie and used the resources I have at my disposal.”
“Which are?”
“Ta-da!” Jacqueline grinned, presenting Dite. “Celestial girlfriend!”
“That’s me! AND I’ve gone ahead and gotten everything we need to get this going!”
“You know, Dite, technically you’re the enemy here too.”
“Hey! Jack! Be nice!”
“No, it’s okay babe! He’s right. But here's the thing. I love Jacqueline very very much and,” she leaned closer to Jack, her cheery disposition falling, determination taking its place, “I want to see Santa and Charlie go down just as bad as you two do.”
Jack looked surprised. Pleasantly so. “Really?”
“Really.”
“Alright then.”
“So? What do you say?! Please? Please Jack? Pretty please?”
Jack looked thoughtful for a moment, rubbing his chin and hemming and hawing.
“Need I remind you about the time you accidentally stabbed me and then left for fourteen hundred years?”
“You do not, thanks.”
“Okay, good. Just checking. So? What’s the answer?”
“Tell you what, little flurry. I’ll do this costume with you. But! If and only if you cut your hair as short as Melinoë’s for the thing. You know, authenticity’s sake and such.”
Jacqueline patted her hair which was, presently, very, very, very long. “My hair?”
Jack nodded. “Yep! Off it goes. Right up past your shoulders.”
“...done.”
Jack sat up in shock. “Really?”
“Yeah! I’ll cut my hair for this. But you HAVE to go as Zagreus. No take-back-sies, especially after my hair cut.”
Jack smirked. “Done.”
🎃👻🍷🥳✨
About a week before Halloween, Jack popped by to visit the fam only to find Jacqueline with very, very, very short hair.
“Wow,” he said, pulling out his seat and helping himself to the coffee time spread. “You really went and did it.”
“Yep! I told you I would! And also, you dared me to."
"Ah yes! Right. I did, didn't I?"
"Yep. And Jacqueline Frost does NOT go back on a dare."
"Evidently."
Dite brought the costumes by earlier, by the way. They’re done and just about ready to go! We’ll need to try them on and make sure they fit well and all that jazz but then we’re good to go!”
“Weapons, too?”
Jacqueline grinned. “Yep! Actual, FUNCTIONING weapons! I was playing with Lim and Oros earlier, holy heck. If that’d been my loadout during the piracy? I’d have conquered the piratical world, Jack.”
“Well it’s a good thing it wasn’t! There’s be no living with you then, King of the Pirates.”
🎃👻🍷🥳✨
Halloween week rolled around and with it, the Legend-Legate Costume party.
Jacqueline stood in her room, all dressed up, admiring the freeze job on her left arm. The ice was thick enough to give her arm an almost ghostly look about it underneath; close enough to Melinoë’s ghostly prosthetic of sorts to work for her.
Grabbing Lim and Oros and taking a few practise swipes, she tumbled out of her room,
“JACK! You ready? We gotta GO!”
“Chill out, would you?”
Across the hall, Jack’s door opened. Out he walked, in his Zagreus costume—huge sword and all.
“AH! You actually DID IT!”
“Of course! You actually cut your hair, and I am a man of my word.”
“Woo! Yes Jack!” In her excitement, the sprite was hovering a bit, the north winds filling the halls. “We’re gonna kill it today! That trophy is as good as ours.” Landing, she swiped through the air with Oros.
“Yes, just one little detail we need to fix.”
“What?” Jacqueline landed. “What detail?”
“Eyes. Quite literally. I have a little spell that may work, but it won’t do eye colours we don’t have in our genes.”
“So instead of one red, one green, it’ll be one blue, one gold-ish?”
“Bingo. I thought we may be able to do the red what with our favourite uncle and all,” (Jacqueline snorted), “But wen I asked Dad, he told me that the only reason his eyes were that dark was because of all the negative magic and whatnot that he used. Something like that.”
“Really? I always thought they were identical except for the eyes and hair.”
“Nope! Same eye colour too!”
“Damn. I do NOT envy Gran.”
“Nor do I. Anyway, hold still, would you?”
“You remember which side is which, right?”
“How could I not? With how informative your presentation was and how you haven’t stopped talking about the game?” He sniffed. “Please.”
There was a pull of magic in the air. Jacqueline looked down at the ice on her arm—yep! Two-toned eyes.
“Ou, that’s banging.”
“Banging?”
“You know darn well what I meant to say. Let’s bounce so I can go swear.”
“And so we can win that trophy! The look on Santa’s face when we take it from him will make my Christmas. I won't even ask for anything else! Except for maybe a framed picture of the exact moment we're announced as the winners.”
“And if we don’t get it, we have WEAPONS. We can take it,” Jacqueline smirked rather devilishly, stabbing the air with the dagger. She spun on her bare foot and ran down the stairs, weapons trailing magically behind her.
🎃👻🍷🥳✨
It was Cupid and Dite who were hosting this year.
Their villa was done up, lights flashing, the smell of good food wafting down their way. Decorations were put up, and it looked like some of the other gods were hanging around as well.
They made their way into the atrium, the party in full swing as they looked for this year’s hosts.
“Jacqueline!”
“Dite!”
“Ou it looks so GOOD ON YOU!!”
“And look at YOU!?!?!? Are you NEMISIS?!”
Dite giggled, flaunting the armour and standing very tall. “Sure am, Princess.”
“Oh, I love it! Why Nem, though? She’s so rough and tough with Meli and you for SURE can’t do that with me, your cute and lovable girlfriend!” Tilting her head and smiling sweetly, she folded her hands under her chin, Lim and Oros in her grasp.
“Dad was inspired by you two and had this great idea—”
“I sure was! I'll take it from here, kiddo." Cupid finally appeared, floating towards them. "Hey! Jack! Ya made it! And Jacqueline, look at you two! Lookin’ good.”
“You have got to be joking me. Really Cupid? Really? THESEUS?”
Cupid laughed, doing a loop-de-loop on the way over. “Yeah! Did it with you in mind! I’ve played my fair share of Hades, so when Hedone told me you and Jacqueline were doing Zag and Mel, I thought, hey! You know who annoys the shit out of Zag? THESEUS! And so, ta-da!”
He floated back, arms outstretched, lights catching onto the costume.
“I can’t even be mad anymore, Cupes. I’m simply impressed.”
“Ha! That’s the spirit, Jack. Anyway, c’mon in! Mind the crowd. Some of the more laid back family members are here—and some of our Greek cousins, too. Dionysus and Bacchus are in the house. It’s gonna be a PARTY TONIGHT! HAHA!”
“I saved you some treats! C’mon!”
Dite pulled Jacqueline away, the sprite grinning up at her as they disappeared in the direction of the food. Jack smiled, watching them go, content.
“I gotta say, Jack. I’m surprised you agreed to this.”
Jack quirked an eyebrow as Cupid floated closer to him, at eye level with his fellow Legendary Figure.
“Oh?”
“Yeah! I never thought you’d go for something like this,” he gestured to Jack’s Zag outfit, “for a costume.”
“Jacqueline was very excited about. She insists it’ll knock Santa and Charlie right off their pedestal.”
“Oh, I think it will. You’ll never guess who they’re here as.”
“Mario and Luigi?”
“Nope.”
“Scooby and Shaggy?”
“Ha! That’d be funny to see. Nope! Wanna guess again?”
“Not particularly.”
“Buzz Lightyear and Woody. From Toy Story.”
Jack laughed. Out loud. “Really? THAT’S the costume they went with?!”
“Oh yeah! So ah, between you and me, Jack…” the god floated closer. “I think you and your sister got this.”
“You and Dite have a good shot too.”
“Ha! Are you kidding? We don’t enter that shit.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. Hedone gets a little too competitive so I ah, try to avoid competitions as much as possible. Seriously, it’s terrifying. You should see her playing board games. Risk? Monopoly? Yikes. She brings even the greatest strategists to tears. Minerva hasn’t been the same since the last board game night. It’s bad, Jack.”
“It’s funny you mention that. When Jacqueline gave me her presentation on the world of Hades—or at least, this iteration of it—” he gestured to himself. “She got very…intense when I asked why she was helping.”
“Yeah. You’d think love was enough, right? Nah. That coupled with beating someone at a competition? Yeesh. You’re lucky you made it out alive, let me tell ya.”
Jack snorted. “The night is still young and this sword is very, very real. Or so I’ve been told. It’s lighter than I expected.”
“I think Heph did that on purpose.”
“I’m not sure whether to be thankful or offended.”
“Eh, when it comes to these guys, it's usually a bit of column A, column B. Regardless, I think you guys have a good chance at winning tonight! Helps that I’m hosting too. We gods are a vain bunch. And I don’t think I could stop them from voting even if I tried.”
“Ou. Then I can tell Scott that I got the godly vote.”
“Ha! You’re gonna be insufferable all year! More so than usual.”
“Only if you’re Scott.”
“Is that why you agreed to the costume?”
“Cupid, please. You know damn well why I agreed to it.”
Cupid smiled. “I do, yeah. I just wanna hear you say it.”
Jack tried very hard to look annoyed but it did not work. He bit back his smile.
“Well, you know how it is. You do very silly things for the people you love.”
“Ha! There it is! You betchya!”
“And you know…there’s no big, huge, grand gesture I can do to make up for everything I did to her,” Jack continued, finding himself watching their Legates in the distance.
Jacqueline already had chocolate on her face, Dite fawning beside her as they helped themselves to some drinks, talking animatedly with Tinkerbell and Peter Pan—ah. Roy’s kids, Jack realized. Olivia and Myles. The pair of Legates were admiring Jacqueline's weapons while she shoved an entire cupcake into her mouth, Dite showing them how to wield the set.
Jack smiled softly. “And while there may not be some grand gesture I can make, there’s all sorts of little things I can do to make up for it all. And this is one of them.”
Cupid chuckled, clapping Jack’s back. “Attaboy! C’mon, let’s get you a drink.”
AITA for doing as the king told?
I (16, F) have two sisters (18, 21). A few days ago, we left home to seek our fortunes but soon become lost. Luckily, we stumbled upon a house next to a wood and a wide river, and begged to be let in. The woman of the house told us that her husband was a giant and that he would do harm to us, but she relented and let us in after seeing the state of us. We ate a delicious meal before the giant returned, exclaiming that he shall eat us the moment he saw us. His wife put a quick stop to that and said that we will be staying the night before being allowed to go home. He agreed and let us sleep in a room with his daughters.
Now, here's where things became strange. Somehow unknown to my sisters or his daughters, he placed chains of gold around his daughters neck, and chains of straw around myself and my sisters necks. When the lights went out, I knew instinctively that I had to swap the chains, so I did. Hardly an hour later, the giant arrived back and felt in the darkness for the straw chains- which I had put on the necks of his daughters. He bludgeoned all three of them to death unknowingly before leaving, saying something about meat pie.
Myself and my sisters left then, before he realised what had happened, and arrived on the other side of the river, where we told the King what had occurred. He told me that if I had gotten the sword from his bedside, he would've given his eldest son to my eldest sister to marry. I of course wanted the best for my sister, so I returned to the giants house unseen and stole his sword away. The next day I returned to the King and he told me that if I had gotten the coin purse from beneath the giants pillow, he would have given my second eldest sister his second eldest son to marry.
Of course, I returned to the giants house and retrieved the coin purse while he slept, with him hearing me and chasing me away. I brought the coin purse to the king and he told me that if I got the ring from the giants finger, he would give his youngest son to me to marry.
Of course, I want to marry a Prince, so I returned to the giants house and hid by his bed until he slept. However, he caught me as I taking the ring and laughed in my face, asking me what I would do to him if I was him in this scenario. I told him "I would throw you in a bag with the cat and the dog, a needle and a thread, before going to the woods and finding the biggest stick I could to beat you to death with". So, he decided this was a great idea and did that, going off to the woods.
I decided to trick the giants wife into getting into the bag, saying there was something amazing in there. She cut it open and got in as I got out and sewed her inside. The giant came back and began bludgeoning her to death, and didn't recognise the poor woman's screams because of the cat and the dog howling from in the bag as well!
After this, I ran away with his ring, with the giant hot on my heels. I managed to cross the river using a bridge I made from a strand of my hair as he yelled insults behind me, screaming "A curse on you! May you never again come back here!"
I gave the ring to the king and got to marry a prince, so I did pretty well, but I did get the giants entire family killed and stole his property- he wasn't very nice though, and fully intended on murdering myself and my sisters.
So, I suppose, AITA?
