If hockey didn't work out as a real career, Sidney Crosby knew from a young age that he wanted to be a firefighter.

"We did a tour of the fire station for whatever reason," Crosby recalled here Monday morning of that early interest. "I don't know if it's the similarities (with hockey) with the gear, but just the camaraderie and everything that goes in it. There's so many different things that they're involved with, and the courage it takes and all that. It's just something that as a young kid, that's something I wanted to do."

Fortunately for Crosby, Pittsburgh, and the sport of hockey, Crosby ended up being a pretty decent hockey player and never had to turn to his fallback plan ... though he quipped with a grin that "there's still time" for a career path change.
