first date

Mary gave Grace a glance as Grace was following Mary up to her apartment after Grace drove them back to BC.

“It’s your first date ever. I’m not going anywhere.” Grace just simply said seeing Mary’s look.

Mary just smiled a bit.

Mary opened the front and paused seeing Ryan and Gabe on the couch, Ryan immediately looked up and started smiling seeing her.

“Nope you can see her on your date.” Grace teased and started pushing Mary towards her room.

Ryan’s face dropped and Gabe stared laughing at him.

Grace pushed Mary into the shower and promised she would start unpacking Mary’s bags if Mary took a shower.

Grace pulled out her phone and texted the group chat that they were back and to come over and then she started unpacking Mary’s bags for her.

Gabe heard a knock and knew who was at the doors and he chuckled to himself, “Hi boys.”

James, Hutson, Cole and Teddy were all standing there and walked in when Gabe stepped back and all of them saying hi to Gabe.

Ryan groaned seeing them, mostly because of Cold but didn’t expect anything else as he figured they would be here with Mary before their date.

Cole gave Ryan a big teasing grin and Ryan just glared back and Hutson laughed seeing this and dragged Cole to Mary’s room.

Mary came out of the shower and saw the four all smushed together on her bed and let out a shocked scoffed but smiled glad they are here, especially because Will doesn’t even know this is happening.

Mary let herself be dragged to her chair and Grace did her makeup and James did Mary’s wavy hair routine and kept her hair completely down.

Once Grace and James were done Hutson handed Mary the outfit they picked out while she showered.

Mary headed into the bathroom to change into a pair of blue bell bottom jeans, a white cropped seater, brown heeled boots and a brown fur lined cropped jacket.

“So?” Mary asked as she stepped out of the bathroom and did it a little spin.

“Perfect.” Grace smiled proudly.

Gabe dusted off Ryan’s shoulder making Ryan fondly roll his eyes, Ryan had a pair of black jeans, black long sleeve with a brown jacket and boots.

“The backup plan is all good?” Gabe double checked. He knew Ryan had an originally plan for their first date but it started snaking today so Ryan had to change their date last minute.

“All good.” Ryan was pretty disappointed they wouldn’t be able to do his first plan but they will definitely be doing it when it isn’t snowing.

“Treat her the way she deserves.” Gabe just simply said not needing to say more because Ryan always treats Mary perfectly.

Gabe also felt he needed to say something with Will not being here.

Ryan just nodded and glanced down the hallway seeing Hutson, Cole and Teddy all come out and towards them.

“She better be back by eleven.” Cole told Ryan seriously as James and Grace came out of Mary’s room next.

“Get out of my house BU.” Ryan just bluntly said making Teddy and James start snickering. Cole gasped offended.

“Get Mary home safe?” Hutson asked instead a lot nicer than Cole.

“Of course Hut.” Ryan easily agreed giving Hutson a nod.

“The clear favoritism is crazy.” Cole dramatically said crossing his arms.

“That’s because Hut has manners.” Ryan said the same time Mary spoke.

“That’s became Huts is Ry’s favorite.” Mary walked out of the room.

Ryan looked over and his whole face softened watching her walk right over to him, he leaned closer kissing her cheek and whispering softly in her good ear, “You look perfect.”

Mary blushed a bit but had a pleased smile as Ryan pulled back.

Ryan took a couple of steps into the kitchen and grabbed something and came right back to Mary handed her a bouquet of all purple flowers.

Mary bit her lip as she looked at the big bouquet and gently took it from Ryan.

“I’ll put them in water for you.” Grace came over and gently took the bouquet, “Have fun.” Grace softly spoke to the both of them.

Ryan grabbed Mary’s hand and they started walking out of the apartment and towards his car, Ryan opened the car door for Mary to get in and walked to the drivers side.

Ryan slowly set his hand on her thigh and she didn’t move away instead put her hand on top of his hand, Ryan smiled to himself he’s been wanting to do that from the first time he drove Mary.

This was both of their first date ever, Ryan never wanted to have his first date or any date with anybody that wasn’t Mary and Mary has never been interested in anyone that wasn’t Ryan.

“So where are we going?” Mary asked once she looked away from the window where she was watching the snow fall.

“It’s a surprise Ellie baby.” Ryan just easily said back squeezing her thigh softly not realizing immediately why she froze.

Mary could feel her cheeks heating up and she was trying to not just giggle at what he just called her.

Ryan looked over at her silence and saw her flustered and he realized what he said and started blushing too, he’s been dreaming of calling her that for years now and so many other names too.

“Is that okay?” Ryan asked her softly glancing between the road and her, he didn’t want to overstep yet but he also wanted to call her every pet name he could think of.

“More than okay.” Mary softly reassured him squeezing his hand softly back making him smile back at her.

Ryan parked the car in a parking garage and he hopped out opening the door for Mary, He grabbed her hand helping her out and kept holding her hand as they walked in.

Mary followed Ryan as he led them into a elevator and to the tenth floor, the door opened to a restaurant and Ryan walked them to a host stand and they were brought out to a private balcony with one table and it was covered from the snow and heaters were on.

There were candle lit and spread across the table and balcony.

Ryan pulled out her seat and let Mary sit down and just looked around in awe, “Ry this is..” Mary trialed off looking shocked.

“I’m glad you think so. My original plan couldn’t happen with the snow so a future date but i hope this is a good first date.” Ryan said slightly nervous.

Mary smiled gently seeing his nerves and grabbed his hand across the table, “Ryan we could do anything and it would still be a perfect because it’s with you.”

Ryan let out a breath at her words and nodded and he smiled gently rubbing his thumb against her knuckles just starring at her in awe that he gets to do this, with her.

“So why here?” Mary asked after they ordered their drinks and she leaned her chin on her palm looking at Ryan.

“It’s private and gives you quiet.” Ryan just simply told her bringing her hand up to his face and pressing a gentle kiss to her knuckles.

Mary’s whole face softened, “You picked this so it’s quiet for me?” Mary asked softly.

“Course, how could i enjoy our date if i knew you were uncomfortable because it’s loud.” Ryan said easily like it was the simplest thing for him, that’s because it is the simplest thing to him.

Mary just looked at him her lips parted, “I love you.” She blurted out softly.

Ryan paused feeling his smile grow, “Yeah? I love you too baby.” He could get use to her saying those three words to him.

Mary smiled softly seeing his pink cheeks, she loves when Ryan is flustered.

Mary and Ryan spent the entire time just talking and laughing like normal as they waited for their food to come out.

Their plates were set down in front of them and the waiter left.

Mary hummed happily as she took a bit of her steak making Ryan grin at her happy face.

Ryan handed Mary a dessert menu once they finished their dinner and already knew what she was gonna pick.

“They have carmel cheesecake!” Mary gasped excitedly making Ryan grin fondly.

Mary ordered her cheesecake and Ryan didn’t order anything, fine with just stealing a bite from Mary.

Mary was looking at Ryan telling him something when her cheesecake was set down in front of her and when she looked down and gasped brining her hand up to her face.

The plate had a question written in chocolate. “Will you be my girlfriend?”

Ryan reached across the table and gently grabbed one of her hands squeezing gently, “Mary Ella Smith, Will you be my girlfriend?”

Mary started beaming at him quickly nodding her head yes, “Yes.”

Ryan beamed letting out happy laugh and cupped her face and kissed his girlfriend gently across the table.

Mary laughed giddy against his lips as she kissed her boyfriend back.

It was a perfect first date for both of them.

Eventually Ryan and Mary left the restaurant and got back in his car and he drove them back to their apartment and parked.

Mary’s eyes were on her boyfriend as she turned the car off and Ryan felt her gaze and glanced over raising an eyebrow giving her a lopsided smirk.

Mary leaned over the center console and cupped Ryan’s face delicately, her heart squeezed softly seeing how easily Ryan leaned into her touch.

Mary quickly kissed Ryan, one hand cupping his cheek as her other hand was tangled in the back of his hair pressing him closer to her.

Ryan hummed happily his hands going to her waist as her sweater rode up and his hands were on her bare waist pulling her as close as possible as he could with console in the way.

Mary hummed happily not wanting to stop kissing Ryan but she gasped as she pulled away as both of them tried to catch her breath.

Ryan could feel her breath hitting his lips as he just looked at her. He slowly pulled Mary closer and she easily let him so he pulled her across the console letting Mary sit right in his lap all first time, she fit perfectly in his lap.

Ryan made a amused sound as Mary eagerly pressed her lips back to his and he brought one of his hands up in her hair, his hand tangling in her hair as he cupped the back of her head.

Ryan inhaled sharply hearing a small sound coming from Mary and he slowly pulled back making the back of his head hitting the headrest as Mary made a sad sound as he pulled away.

“Baby i would love to continue.” Ryan softly reassured her his thumb softly brushing across the back of her head as he was still cupping her head.

“But if we continue i won’t be able to stop and i want to do this right with you.” Ryan confessed to her, as much as he would absolutely love to do more with Mary, he didn’t want to after their first date.

“Oh.” Mary realized and her cheeks turned even darker at the realization.

Ryan and Mary shared a look and both of them started laughing, Mary’s forehead hit his shoulder as she giggled feeling Ryan laughing.

They calmed down eventually and Mary lifted her head back up and Ryan gently wiped her lips as her lipstick was smudged all around her mouth and none of her lipstick was still on her lips correctly.

Mary softly wiped away the lipstick all around Ryan’s lips, she definitely liked seeing the marks she left from her lipstick on Ryan and she would remember that for the future.

“Let’s get inside.” Ryan said as he glanced at the time realizing they have been sitting in the car for over thirty minutes.

Ryan opened his door letting Mary hop of his lap and get out first and he closed the door behind them.

Ryan grabbed her hand softly and held it as they headed up to their apartment.

Ryan opened their front door and they walked down the mostly dark hallway, “Can i?” Ryan trialed off asking her.

Mary smiled knowingly and squeezed his hand, “Yes.” Mary kissed his cheek before heading into her room.

Ryan smiled to himself and quickly headed to his room getting ready for bed and hurrying to Mary’s room.

He knocked on the door and slowly opened it seeing Mary in bed already, he quickly crossed the room as Mary lifted her covers up and he slipped into her bed making Mary immediately curl into his side.

Ryan’s arm draped over her shoulders pulling her closer to him.

“Goodnight Ry, i love you.” Mary mumbled softly to her boyfriend. Her boyfriend that made her smile as she started falling asleep.

Ryan looked down at her softly pressing a gentle and slow kiss to her forehead, “Goodnight Ellie, I love you too.” Ryan had only waited years to finally get this chance with Mary.

Ryan and Mary both fell asleep with content and peaceful looks on their faces cuddling each other.

nineteen

January 6, 2025

Mary yawned as she woke up rubbing her face before immediately hiding her face back in her pillow as the sun was coming through the windows and she is still exhausted.

She didn’t get back to the hotel till almost five in the morning and had helped Hutson with getting James, Teddy and Cole in his room before heading to her room that she has been sharing with James but was alone last night.

Mary thought about last name and immediately started beaming and blushing, she turned onto her back and giggled softly thinking about her first kiss with Ryan, technically her second kiss with him but this one was perfect and she knows it isn’t gonna end up like last time where they don’t end up talking about it.

Mary trapped her phone ignoring all the notifications till she scrolled till Ryan’s contact and saw him typing as she clicked on their messages.

you up? can i bring breakfast and we can talk?

Mary bit her lip and smiled to herself as she quickly responded back.

Mary quickly say up and grimaced as she ran a hand through her knotted hair and quickly headed to the bathroom and taking a quick shower.

She brushed out her wet hair leaving it down and she put on a pair of USA sweatpants and hoodie and got back in her bed as she waited for Ryan.

Mary turned her phone off getting out of bed when she heard a knock on the door and she walked over opening the door and paused seeing Ryan.

They didn’t really see much of each other after their kiss last night only glances.

“Hi.” Mary mumbled looking nervous as she took a step back to let Ryan in.

Ryan cupped her face with one hand and his tie he arm wrapping around he waist as he leaned down and kissed her again, He pulled back slowly looking at her softly, “Hi.” He had been waiting to kiss her again since twelve hours ago when they kissed last.

Mary slowly smiled up at him her nose scrunching making Ryan look at her softly.

Ryan stepped back a bit as he held up a bag of food, “Breakfast?” Even if it is already noon.

Mary smiled nodding and walked over to the table in her room and sat down letting Ryan sit in the chair next to her, Ryan opened the bag and pulled out one of Mary’s favorite breakfast foods, pancakes with caramel and a side of bacon, then he pulled out a caramel ice coffee.

“Wait!” Ryan blurted out when she picked up a fork and pulled out a candle and put it in her pancakes making her smile as he quickly lite the candle, “Happy Birthday Ellie.” Ryan brushed back a piece of her hair behind her ear as she giggled and blew out her candle.

“Thank you.” Mary mumbled softly and hummed softly as she started eating the pancakes.

Ryan and Mary just ate their breakfasts in comfortable silence and once they were done Ryan cleaned up before he grabbed Mary’s hand making she stand up and walking over to ned and sitting on the end pulling Mary to sit next to him.

“First off, i didn’t regret the kiss last night, i’ve been waiting years for the chance to kiss you again.” Ryan softly reassured her as she faced him completely and he was holding both of her hands.

“Me too.” Mary softly reassured him back making his shoulders loose the small bit of tension they held.

Ryan let out a slight nervous breath and Mary squeezed his hands reassuringly.

“I love you Mary Ella Smith and i’ve been in love with you since that day in that little locker room and you waved at me, you’ve had my heart since that moment.” Ryan softly and lovingly spoke to her, telling her the words he’s wanted to for years.

Mary let out a watery laugh and squeezed her hands back, “I’ve loved since you started calling me Ellie Belly.” Mary confessed softly watching Ryan whole face light up and his eyes filled with his own tears.

Ryan let go of one of her hands cupped her face making her eagerly lean into his touch. He just smiled at her in disbelief, Mary loves him back.

Mary brought her free hand up and covered his hand on her face.

“Ellie i’ve been in love with you for years and i want to make sure i do this right so can i take you out on a date when we both get back to Boston?” Ryan asked her softly.

Also Ryan wanted to ask her to be his girlfriend on its own date and not her birthday, he wanted her to have multiple special days not on the same day.

“I would really like that.” Mary told him honestly with an excited smile, “I’ll be back Friday, if that works?”

“Friday is perfect.” Ryan beamed at her.

Ryan leaned closer to her when his phone started ringing making him jerk back and Mary laugh as Ryan grumbled at his phone, “Gabo.” Ryan told Mary.

“What?” Ryan spoke sharply but his face softened as he felt Mary squeeze his hand and he looked back at her.

“Fine i’ll be back in a few minutes.” Ryan grumbled unhappily and hung up, “He needs help with something.”

“That’s okay i’ll see you in a few days.” Mary just smiled at him. She knew most of the team was leaving tonight and she was staying till tomorrow with her family.

Ryan and Mary both got up and walked over to the door, “I’ll see you friday then.” Ryan mumbled gently as he brushed his hand across her wet hair.

“Friday.” Mary mumbled back as her eyes fluttered shut as Ryan leaned down pressing the gentlest kiss to her forehead for the first time and she just melted into him.

Ryan smiled slightly seeing how much she liked the forehead kiss and would remember that for the future, “Have a good day birthday girl.” Ryan gave her one more soft smirk before walking out of her room.

Mary blinked and shook her head and immediately pulled out her phone slamming Grace with texts to meet her at Hutson and Cole’s room before texting Huston she was coming over.

Mary grabbed her slides before she rushed out of her room and to another floor where Hutson and Cole’s room was.

She saw Grace waiting by the door, “Happy Birthday! Why did you want to meet here?” Grace hugged Mary quickly as Mary knocked on the door and it quickly opened.

“Happy birthday!” Hutson beamed at his best friends giving her a kiss on the cheek.

“Happy birthday!” Cole and James both mumbled out from where they were lying on the bed together, both looking absolutely miserable.

Teddy was still fully asleep on the other bed.

Mary just walked over to Teddy and shook him awake, “If you don’t wake up you won’t hear how Ryan kissed me.”

Teddy immediately sat up as everyone else started talking at the same time all looking shocked.

“Hello!! I want to hear this.” Teddy spoke up making everyone else quiet down.

“It was at the bar last night.” Mary told them sitting down next to Teddy.

“When you were outside?” James asked with wide eyes surprised they actually finally kissed.

Mary nodded softly.

“Ohhh that’s why your lips were swollen when you came inside.” Grace teased with a happy smile, she’s been waiting for the two to get together.

Mary just blushed and hid her face in her hands.

“She’s blushing!” Cole teasingly cooed making Mary groan and pick up a pillow tossing it Cole.

“Okay well are you two together?” Hutson spoke up to stop Cole from keep teasing her.

“No he asked me on a date first.” Mary answered fiddling with her birthstone bracelet.

“Good.” James nodded in approval, Mary deserves to be treated perfectly.

“When’s the date?” Grace asked eagerly looking so happy.

“Friday.” Mary answered.

“You mean we only have four days for a perfect outfit!” Cole dramatically gasped making everyone start laughing.

“You don’t even know what a perfect outfit is.” Teddy sassed through his own laughs, Teddy’s words only made them all laugh even more as Cole pouted.

The only thing that would make this better for Mary is being able to tell Will everything but she couldn’t, not now.

Nineteen was turning out to be pretty good so far even if this is her first birthday without spending it with Will.
