Was talking to @cawcawbeech yesterday and accidentally came up w a Kylan parents AU so I wanted to draw the kid hehe More info abt this guy below the cut

He was an accidental and very unexpected pregnancy, the fact he was such an impossible odd is the main reason Kaz decided to keep him even though he was very uncertain about if he should be a dad at the time. He spent the second half of the pregnancy at Colm's farm in Novyi Zem where he also gave birth.

Johannus lives with Wylan and Jesper at the mansion. Wylan's staff believe that he was adopted from Novyi Zem and that Wylan is being a single father with Jesper's help.

Kaz visits as often as he can, which is usually once a day, to spend some time with him. He tries his best to be there for him, he's a bit distant and awkward at times, but Johannus can see that he is really trying his best and appreciates that.

Wylan is very excited to be a dad, especially given that he never thought he could be, but he's also very nervous of hurting his son the same way he'd been hurt. Initially he's a bit too gentle with his parenting, but over the years he learns how to be both kind and assertive. He's a very dedicated parent so he and Johannus are very close.

Jesper helped a great deal with helping raise him, Johannus sees him as a bit of a third parent and the two of them are very close.

Kaz, Wylan and Johannus often go on vacations together which is the only times they're really together as a family.

Johannus is probably the only person who got to know the real Kaz first and Dirtyhands second. As he grew up and slowly learned about Kaz's reputation he mostly just found it very strange because the Kaz Ketterdam seemed to know was nothing like the Kaz he knew.

Given that Kaz carried Johannus and took care of him as a newborn, Kaz finds physical affection with Johannus easier than with anybody else. He struggles to be emotionally open with his son so he finds it easier to show love through kissing and cuddling. But mostly he likes spending quality time with him, playing, reading books, etc.

Johannus and Kaz have a bit of a distant relationship at first. But when Johannus turns 13, Kaz lets him hang out with him in the Barrel (assuring his safety every step of the way ofc) and after finally seeing what his father's life is like and what he gets up to, Johannus finally feels closer to him and the two of them get along great after that (also bc the two of them are very similar personality-wise).

He has dyslexia just like Wylan, but his is less severe (he can still read, he just struggles with it). Initially Wylan has a hard time accepting it, terrified of his son suffering the same way as he had. But as he sees everyone accepting Johannus with ease and him never feeling ashamed of himself, he learns that his dyslexia was never the problem, his father was.

It was nighttime, the lights of the carnival creating a mood the mechanic hadn’t experienced in a while. The Future Foundation had decided that –seeing as a lot of time has passed since they woke up from the simulation, and they were now certain that they were free of despair– the remnants get to go on a free trip to enjoy a carnival as a change of scenery from the island. Still, the FF were very cautious in their decision, and for safety measures, they assigned each remnant a member to keep an eye on them.

That part didn’t bug the mechanic at all; he appreciated it, in fact, since he had zero trust in himself too — but the part that was bugging him was… that they assigned Kyoko Kirigiri to him of all people.

Y’know, the person whose father he killed in a rocket ship.

He absolutely couldn’t look her in the eyes, or even muster the courage to say anything at all to her. He didn’t have any right to. He knew that… so why did the Future Foundation pair them up? Was it some kind of cruel joke? Or did they just forget about that part? Either way, he remained completely silent, dragging his feet along to walk aimlessly instead of engaging with any of the attractions or booths, lost in his thoughts.

…She must hate his guts, huh?

Six of Crows au where the crows stay in Ketterdam after the heist (and Matthias is alive obvs) and Colm (Jesper’s father) visits Ketterdam all the time because those kids really need a parent figure like Nina what do you mean you haven’t seen your parents since you were a kid? Excuse me Wylan your father did WHAT NOW?? Matthias what about your family? Dead? Oh. Inej? ‘Somewhere in Ravka’ isn’t that specific. Kaz what do you mean your mother is Ketterdam go get some therapy please. And so Jesper’s dad adopts his son’s whole friend group

Six of Crows AU where Jesper brings an emotional support goat over from his Fathers farm and it’s just there for the entire duology.

Just imagine Nina, Kaz, Inej and Matthias escaping from Hellgate and as they approach the boat Nina is like.

“Is that one of the escape animals?”

And Kaz just sighs in annoyance and goes “no that’s just Milo”

And Jesper is just grinning holding his goat.

Or when Inej wakes up from being stabbed and she’s with Nina and Jesper walks in and she’s just like.

“You brought the goat!?!?”

And he’s like “I thought we’d need some comforting” and hands her a goat to pet.

Poor Wylans just constantly staring at it until he finally works up the courage to be like “so what’s up with the goat?”

And Jesper who infamously can’t take anything seriously is just like “what do you mean?” Completely deadpan as though bringing a goat to a prison heist is a completely normal thing to do and it sends Wylan spiralling.

Matthais already thinks the Crows are weird and the goat is just one more thing to confirm his suspicions, but Jesper is incredibly insistent that petting a goat is the number one way to alleviate stress and he eventually gives in and pets the goat.

It bites him.

And it only gets worse after they make it out.

Kuwei just has to hear Jesper lament about all his struggles to this goat for hours. The others are already used to it, but by the time they make it back to Ketterdam he’s seriously having second thoughts about why he finds this man attractive.

And Kaz has been half contemplating murdering it since Jesper joined the Dregs and bought the Goat along with him, but unfortunately everyone’s grown strangely attached, him included.

And Kaz won’t admit it, but he did grow up on the farm and they did have animals and the goat reminds him a little of when he was a kid and times were a little bit better. So he pretends to be completely and utterly against the goat like those dads when you get a dog acting like they don’t snuggle up next to it every night and the Crows figure out pretty quickly that Kaz does in fact love this goat.

So they go to confront Van Eck and they just bring the goat, cause why not?

And obviously Wylans dad is like. What’s up with the goat. And all the present crows stare at him like he’s the crazy one for thinking there’s something wrong with the goat.

Ice's new album that he puts out with zero publicity and no tour no nothing is just titled "for baby goose" and everyone goes into wild conspiracy theories about what it means and if it's an allegory to his own young Disney days (wait is Disney voice acting under Tom or Kiaro?) or if it's just something he saw!

Ice has an incredible singing voice and Bradley’s been getting his own songs for decades. So I've been working on this dumb Modern Ketterdam AU thing where Inej is working for Wylan's dad for a while before defecting to work with Kaz's crew, and I just have to share this Wesper interaction because it's one of the earlier ones they have after Jesper realizes Wylan sells illegal fireworks under his dad's nose and I just. God, sorry, I love them.

Wylan kept his head down, navigating through the crowd with practiced ease, already planning his route back to the mansion where his tutor would be waiting. He hated being late—it would only give his father more ammunition to fire at him later. But just as he was turning a corner, a familiar figure caught his eye, leaning casually against a marking stall, a bright, amused grin spreading across his face.

The boy with the guns from last night. Jesper, Kaz had called him.

Wylan's heart skipped a beat as Jesper spotted him, eyes lighting up with recogntion. There was no mistaking the tall sharpshooter, dressed in flashy attire—a dark coat thrown over a vivid red shirt, his fingers tapping the side of one of his revolvers. He was as confident and at ease as he'd been the night before, and Wylan instantly felt exposed, like Jesper could see every thought racing through his mind.

“Well, well,” Jesper drawled, pushing off the stall and strolling over, his steps lazy and confident. “If it isn’t the pretty boy from last night. Small world, huh?”

Wylan bristled, feeling his cheeks flush with a mix of irritation and embarrassment. “My name’s Wylan,” he muttered, crossing his arms defensively. “And I really need to get going.”

Jesper’s grin widened, undeterred. “Wylan, huh? Nice to meet you properly then.” He fell into step beside Wylan as if it were the most natural thing in the world, weaving effortlessly through the crowd. “So, what’s a Van Eck doing wandering around the markets on a morning like this? You slumming it for fun, or is there something more interesting going on?”

Wylan’s jaw clenched. He didn’t have time for this, and he certainly didn’t want Jesper—Kaz’s man, one of the Dregs—following him back to his father’s house. He kept his pace brisk, eyes fixed straight ahead. “I’m just running errands,” he said tersely, hoping Jesper would take the hint and leave.

But Jesper wasn’t the type to let things go that easily. “Errands, huh? Like running around with fireworks? Were you serious about that?”

Wylan stopped abruptly, grabbing Jesper’s arm and pulling him off to the side, away from the bustle of the market. Jesper’s eyebrows shot up in surprise, but he didn’t resist, letting Wylan guide him into the relative privacy of a narrow side street. Wylan released him, running a hand through his curls, frustration bubbling to the surface.

“Do you have to be so damn loud about it?” Wylan hissed, keeping his voice low but urgent. “Not everyone needs to know what I’m doing.”

Jesper raised his hands in mock surrender, though his smile never wavered. “Alright, alright. Didn’t mean to get you all riled up. Just curious, is all. I mean, it’s not every day you meet a merchant’s son sneaking around with explosives.”

Wylan glared at him, the words stinging more than they should. Jesper didn't understand. None of them did. To him, it was probably all just a game—another quirky detail to file away in his catalog of oddities about the city's elite. But to Wylan, it was his life, the only thing he had any control over. He didn't want to be another sideshow attraction for the Dregs, another point of interest for Kaz Brekker to exploit.

"I'm not sneaking around," Wylan snapped, though even he didn't fully beleive it. "And this isn't some... some hobby. I'm just trying to—"

Jesper cut him off, his expression softening, just a hint of genuine interest peeking through his usual bravado. "Trying to what, Freckles? Trying to be something other than what everyone thinks you are?"

Wylan blinked, taken aback by the sudden shift in tone. It was as if Jesper had seen straight through the walls he had spent so long building up, and for a moment, Wylan didn't know how to respond. He wanted to push Jesper away, to brush off the question and move on, but something in the gunslinger's eyes—sharp, knowing, but not unkind—made him hesitate.

"I'm just... I'm trying to figure things out," Wylan finally said, his voice quieter, the fight draining out of him. "I'm not like my father. I don't want to be like him. And I don't need people like you making me feel like it's all a waste of time."

Jesper leaned back against the wall, his gaze never leaving Wylan's facve. "Who said anything about it being a waste? I think it's pretty fucking brave, actually. Takes guts to go against what's expected of you."

Wylan stared at him, unsure if Jesper was mocking him or being sincere. Nine times out of ten, it was the former, from his experience. Inej was usually the only exception. But there was something about the way Jesper was looking at him now, something that made Wylan feel seen in a way he wasn't used to.

"Look," Jesper said, pushing off the wall and clapping Wylan on the shoulder. "I won't keep you, I'm sure you need all your beauty sleep to keep your curls that perfect. But if you ever want to talk—or, you know, need someone to set off those fireworks of yours—I'm around. Ketterdam's a small place, after all."

Wylan nodded, dumbfounded, still processing the unexpected encounter as Jesper turned and sauntered back toward the market, his figure blending into the crowd. It wasn't until he couldn't see the sharpshooter anymore that he glanced down long enough to realize Jesper had slipped a piece of paper in the front of his bag, a string of numbers scribbled across it.

Crows Fanfic AU Idea...

With all the Crows college fics that exist, we've been sleeping on the Crows Community AU. Hear me out...

Summary:

Six very different students share one very common goal: passing a stupid language class at the local community college. They form a study group, new unlikely friendships -- new romances -- and maybe, just maybe, figure out how to pass their class.

Details:

Nina speaks six languages already and the 101 class is so easy for her, why would she bother to switch for something harder? The others find out she’s fluent and beg for help. (Lol, not Kaz though. He doesn’t beg, nor need help. He just shows up to the study group because his class partner comes to the study group and he claims he wants Jesper to actually work so that they can both pass.)

Jesper needs help focusing, Wylan needs help reading and writing in a new language, Matthais struggles with pronunciation and speaking. Inej wants to make sure she's learning correctly. Kaz just uses the the time studying to complete his work.

Class partnerships are: Nina and Inej, Kaz and Jesper, and Wylan and Matthias. Their crappy community college may be a joke, but their motivations to succeed are very real.

Character/Plot:

Kaz: business major, needs the degree to keep his club legal and legally reputable. (It is most definitely not, and he uses it to help the other Crows.) Unofficial leader of the study group despite only speaking one language while everyone else is multilingual. Doesn’t actually need help studying, could do it himself, but there is a lot of group work in the class and he’ll never admit it, but he is entertained by the others and enjoys their company. Especially Inej because she's the only other sane member of the study group.

Inej: social work major, wants to fight for others rights and help the most vulnerable. Like most of the Crows, speaks another language, but it’s not the one being studied in class. Honest and sweet, she (and Jesper) are the emotional core of the group, given her ability to care about the Crows' well being more than studying. 

Jesper: agricultural major, hates his major – is pretty sure he’s going to drop out because he doesn’t care about school, a bit of a slacker. Still incredibly smart when he applies himself. The Crows convince him to switch to a trade which is much better for him, now he just needs to tell his dad. (Yikes.) Immediately sleeps with Wylan and they both get awkward about it because they both thought the other wanted something casual, but they definitely don’t. Lets Wylan move in with him. 

Nina: nursing major, is only going through the motions to get a degree because the one she already has doesn’t count because it didn’t transfer correctly when she emigrated, which is total bullshit in her very strong opinion. Speaks 6 languages and the group comes to her with help studying – actually in charge of the studying part of the study group. Shamelessly flirts with everyone and is driven crazy taking a relationship at Matthias’s pace. 

Wylan: music major, homeless and stealthily living on campus because he technically doesn’t qualify for financial assistance (given his family’s wealth even though he has zero access to it). His father enrolled him in a community college instead of his family’s alma mater in order to embarrass him and expects him to flunk out. Wylan is determined to succeed. Works in the cafeteria, can speak class language very well, needs help with the reading/writing elements. Kaz forges some documents to get Wylan financial assistance and into campus housing. The Crows help him (and Jesper) get academic accommodations. Learns how to get help without being embarrassed.

Matthias: criminal justice major, arrested and released from jail, innocent and falsely accused, but having a difficult time getting back on his feet. He has a difficult time letting go of what happened to him and that it effects/limits his career opportunities. Hates how much he needs Nina’s help to pass the class, but he enjoys the one-on-one tutoring with her more than he wants to admit. He would rather slow down a relationship to court. Nina convinces him to let go of his anger and switch to a lit major, which makes him happier.

kaz is emma, a bored, overintelligent rich bitch stuck in a country house with a bunch of shit idiot neighbours and almost no one to entertain or match him. fucking useless dad per haskell / mr woodhouse is a weaksauce hypochrondriac, and jordie / isabella has gone and got married and ditched kaz, the bastard. the only consolation is their neighbour inej / mr knightley, who is rich, sensible, popular, and elegible as hell... glory be, an intellectual equal for kaz!

in order to be less bored, kaz takes on a protege, mysterious randomer and natural son wylan / harriet smith, who kaz decides to mould in his own image and make a good match for. wylan is in love with gentleman farmer jesper / robert martin, but kaz is a snob and tries to push him towards local vicar kuwei / mr elton (I KNOW. I'M SORRY KUWEI), but that all goes tits up bc turns out kaz is a fucking terrible matchmaker, who'd've known.

meanwhile, unassuming and a little cold, but locally well-liked matthias / jane fairfax has arrived back in the village, and kaz busily commences hating on him because he's another accomplished young man and he makes him feel inadequate. hot on his heels comes the mysterious nina / frank churchill (NINA I'M SO SORRY I FUCKING HATE FRANK BUT THIS IS WHAT WORKS FOR THE COUPLES YOU CAN BE A NICE FRANK CHURCHILL ): ), who kaz is kind of fascinated by and enjoys sparring with, and hence kind of misses the really obvious signs that nina and matthias are secretly engaged, even though inej, ever thief of secrets, has lowkey noticed something's up, like matthias getting mysterious gifts from someone. kaz ends up being convinced that possibly it's inej that's pursuing matthias, which nina encourages because it helps her cover, and kaz kinda panics.

everyone has petty village drama which culiminates when kaz sneers at pekka rollins / miss bates (LISTEN. LI actually you don't need to listen bc I laughed out loud when I thought of this comparison but hear me out, if you just think of it as the equivalent of the church of barter scene except instead of 'I buried him' it's 'when have you ever stopped at three?' it kind of works. sorry to miss bates tho who is still kinda my fave austen character) at box hill, which culminates in inej going BOY WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM and kaz is like wow she kind of has a point should I be a better person :/

uhh what else even happens. there's a ball after nina massively encourages one, inej saves wylan from being partnerless and later dances with kaz (think of the gloveless dance scene from the 2020 adaptation? yeah? yeahh??). the regency gender conventions here are getting so messed up lmao, never mind. in emma harriet fancies herself in love with mr knightley and emma is forced to realise that she likes him, so let's say that wylan pretends to be after inej, in order to strong arm kaz into realising that he's wanted to marry inej this entire time. wylan's dad turns out to be minted (I'm stretching the book here to make it work w SOC but never mind) but that's after kaz has admitted he fucked up and sent wylan off to marry gentleman farmer jesper, yaaay. nina's relatives who are stopping her from marrying matthias die and hence there's a massive revelation with 'oh they were engaged this whole time lol', kaz is PISSED bc he didn't clock it. uh. everyone gets married and now kaz can escape the shit village and actually go places. the end.

Ok, so I’ve been piecing the zombie au together in my brain from reading everything under the tag and I have some questions (but I can only remember one at the moment lol).

It takes a year for Wilbur (and Phil) to find Kristin, Tommy and Techno right? And Wilbur doesn’t know he’s immune until he’s bit protecting Tommy. What I was wondering was how was Wilbur able to stay alive for long? I assume he met up with some other survivors at points, but there had to be big chunks of time when he was by himself (especially with his dad being a zombie and Wilbur not trusting that other survivors won’t hurt Phil). Like how did him manage to survive on his own and avoid a whole bunch of zombies?

It's very easy to hide out in the woods, especially when you have a rotting corpse that follows you around and scares away most of the animals around. Another benefit to having a zombie for a companion is it's easier to stay under the radar of other zombies, at least from a distance. While he wouldn't be able to blend in in a crowd, he could probably go through a town unscathed as long as he's quick about it. There are moments where he had to pull a bit of a kaz brekker, which is a bit too intense to fully elaborate on so I'll leave it at that. Iykyk haha
