A few hours after I sent @veliseraptor some Vegas AUs for that meme, another AU hit me which I became obsessed with and thus must now share: My Stand-In AU. Fusion? Whichever!
Pete is the tireless, hard-working, unseen power behind Kinn's action movie empire: his stand-in. The loyal guy who puts his body on the line for Kinn every day but remains invisible and uncredited for it. And that's just the way Pete likes it! Until one day, Kinn's insanely hot cousin cracks a joke about Pete's ass from behind, and this momentary unexpected attention awakens something in Pete and he starts wanting to be seeeeen. Luckily for him, Vegas appears to be... really looking?
No, sorry Pete, he is actually obsessed with his cousin who hates him, and having one of his typical obnoxious, needlessly sexual (longingly sexual) comments be received with flustered joy instead of disdainful annoyance has awakened something in him. He never realized there was someone who looked so much like Kinn from behind, but when he's with Pete he can pretend Kinn actually wants him, that the affection of their childhood relationship still exists beneath all the toxicity.
Except the more Pete starts to show himself to Vegas, and connect to Vegas and see him in ways Kinn hasn't in as long as he can remember, the more Vegas inadvertently grows attached to Pete for who he is. But will he be able to communicate that to Pete once Pete finds out their relationship was originally All About Kinn? What about after he chains Pete up in his family's safehouse to keep him from breaking up with him/"choosing Kinn"?? And will this all resolve in a very psychological threeway with Kinn once he finds out his sneaky manipulative sexy little cousin has seduced his stand-in out of his service? STAY TUNED ON MY STAND-IN: LA FORTE!

ramblings on Li Ming (and Heart) and homosexuality
moonlight chicken has so many things to offer in terms of technical beauty and interesting themes but what i cannot stop thinking about is the different ways they approach homosexuality in the story.
we have Wen who has a rainbow flag on his desk and pictures of him and Alan on the wall. Wen, who openly flirts with Jim and has no qualms talking openly about his one night stand. Wen, whose step father knows about his sexuality and is close enough with him to discuss his love life.
Kaipa we don’t know too much about. But his mom knows and is supportive and some of the vendors and the chicken family seem to know. But if anyone was questioning in what reality this show is set with all the class discussion and corona featuring, his part of the story shows that homophobia exists and he is worried about how he fits in with his own family, the expectations of his mother and possible the awareness that he makes the family he has “different”.
Jim is arguably even more visibly gay than Wen in terms of what we see throughout the show. He opened the shop with his ex, they prayed at the temple together and even though he objected due to proprities sake eventually they loudly declared their love to each other and the whole neighbourhood knows. Wen somehow feels like he is living in the remnants of a bubble: his circle of friends seems very queer, his closest friend and the whole gym seem to be all part of that as well. This only might change now with him questioning his work and breaking up with Alan: some gatherings he won’t attend anymore apparently.
And finally, we have Li Ming. At school he doesn’t seem to open up to his classmates on most things and additionally is in the closet. While there wasn’t anything alluding to homophobic rethoric being spread at school we can see how the heteronormativity gets to him and feel that there must be good reason as to why no one knows. And it could just be how Li Ming is judging the situation based on vibes, we don’t know. His mother is or at least was homophobic but at the same time he is raised by his gay uncle who is surrounded by other gay people. And I love how it feels like this might have given him enough security to be comfortable with his own sexuality but how it also isn’t enough to shield him from the world at large.
With so many great shows coming out of Thailand and most of them getting more and more political it just feels so real and 2023 to me that Li Ming is part of a generation that knows who they are but still have to battle with the shadow that homophobia has cast way before they were born.

when jane's powers return in season four (and because they were regained by her confronting and accepting her past, rather than being retraumatised with it!) they're stronger than they ever were. when she starts getting a handle back on them, she very quickly comes to realise not only have they affected her, but her mother, too. one of the biggest losses that came about with her losing them was the fact that she could no longer visit terry in the void; while there was no real communication there, it did allow jane to sit with her, and gain a little more connection than she could in the real world. when she first visits the void after their return, it takes her three hours to find terry, something that is both unexpected and incredibly worrying. but when she does, it's something of a miracle. jane's increased strength and control over the void actually wakes terry up from her catatonic state, but only in the void. there's no way to help her mother physically, but she does do so (unbeknownst to her) mentally. terry is reborn in jane's newfound control over the vale of shadows; she becomes the woman she once was, and while her body remains frozen in a "good dream", her mind connected to jane's own allows her some freedom. jane is able to speak to her mother in the void, is able to be held by her, and while it's still unfair and jane cannot stay in there forever, it's something. this only lasts for about eight months, as each visit slowly begins deteriorating terry's physical and mental state, and jane's health begins declining after spending hours upon hours in the void each and every day.
when jane finds out these visits are actually killing her mother on the outside, she deems to stop, but terry expresses the importance of them being able to speak, that she'd prefer to die on the outside, if it meant she could have just a few months with her daughter like this. terry and jane's connection was always so strong, which ultimately led to terry "waking up" in the void, but even jane's newfound strength cannot save her from the harsh realities. each visit nearing the end of those eight months, terry fades more and more, becomes weaker in the void, and her real body eventually gives up. jane's in the void when her mother eventually passes on, and physically feels their connection weaken, like some part of her suddenly becomes lost in the shadows, a part she'll never find again. jane falls into a depressive state for weeks after her mother's death, given she's technically lost her a second time, but soon comes to realise she was lucky to have even shared those eight months together. it was better than nothing at all. there is a proper burial and funeral, (and when jane dies, she's buried next to her mother) which allows jane some sense of closure. she never fully recovers from losing terry, nor from the fact that she never had a proper relationship with her, but she does eventually find some peace with it all.

I do wish I could multiship tbh. I DO believe in the inherent validity of multiple ships!! And I DO accept the "he has two hands" commandment, wholeheartedly!! It's just that in my personal headcanon, there is simply no fucking way in all nine hells that these two lovestruck fools would ever fall for or countenance sharing their beloved with someone else. He has two hands and both are occupied. By the same guy. Sucks to be you Love Interest #2 but this guy is so monogamously married that, by a chance of fate, had their loved one not existed, they would simply not date anyone ever

I will still make self ship art and take self ship commissions/ requests but i just notice how little people care about my self ships and how i don't draw them much bc of that (and other reasons too but mostly that one ngl) so i figure why hold onto a title that isn't true.

I know that how much Phoenix suspected Kristoph is very vague and I like the idea he had very little clue but honestly the thing that makes me think he did is Trucy. Because I think there is absolutely no way Kristoph didn't want her dead. He tried to kill vera, child murder isn't above him. And Trucy was a far far bigger weak chain in his scheme than she was but she escapes him basically unscathed other than minus one parent, who lets be real was canonically a POS who tried to kill a woman over a poker game. She saw him give her the diary page. She has psychic lie defecting abilities and he is constantly lying. She's absolutely the biggest direct threat to his scheme.
I feel like if Phoenix genuinely trusted Kristoph he would have absolutely had the opportunity to kill her and tie up that loose end. Trucy's savvy and able to protect herself but she's also a child. It is a miracle she's still alive by AA4 and I think that has to be because Phoenix was protecting her because he knew he couldn't trust Kristoph around her.
