Tw for weight loss mention
The whole exercise will cure your disability thing is a fucking joke. Yes exercise is beneficial for your health, but only if you aren't already on shaky foundations. You need to be on a treatment plan that WORKS before going into the maintenance phase. You wouldn't do regular maintenance on a broken item, you'd work on getting it up and running first. And maybe it would even need specialized maintenance afterwards if it's especially fragile.
I have fibromyalgia and acute degenerative disc disease. My immune system attacks my nerves and discs in my spine are slowly calcifying and causing the bones to constrict and damage my nerves (i think thats how it works). I have days where it feels like my body is on fire from nerve pain and days where it feels like my spine is about to rip from my back. And days where I have both (like today!). I get numbness in my hands and feet. I have horrible migraines. I can no longer walk unaided more than maybe 5 minutes without severe pain. I have something wrong with my knees and hips but the doctors don't know what yet.
You'd think I live an obviously seditary lifestyle correct?
Hell no.
I walk aided on average 6 miles a day over difficult terrain OUTSIDE of regular activity almost everyday. My legs are muscular and strong. I get my heart rate up and a good sweat, like all the gym rats swear on. I am often doing physical labor such as weeding, digging, sample collecting, pruning trees etc.
I'm not saying this to make other disabled people feel bad or prove that they can do anything if they just tried harder. This is an extremely painful lifestyle I've chosen that takes a lot of lifestyle management AND BOUNDARIES to keep up with the work. I also have an extremely forgiving boss who is also physically disabled and knows what I'm going through (deciding between your passion and your health and having to do so each and every day) No one should ever be expected to do what I do. I'm not even sure if I should be doing this myself.
This is to prove that exercise? Has not cured me. My muscles are strong but still hurt as if they're broken and I have to take more breaks than my coworker. I am constantly getting out of breath and I flare up regularly if I'm not careful. I am in excellent physical condition outside of my disabilities. I go to different doctors several times a month to get checked out.
I previously went through a diet program and lost a lot of weight (basically starving myself and got off my depression meds which cause weight gain but are also the only ones that work) and guess what? That didn't do shit either!!! I still felt horrible!!! I've since gained back the weight anyway after switching to focusing on adding more nutrient dense foods than taking stuff away from my diet (also muscle weighs more than fat, and fat helps cushion my aching joints and spine).
The muscle doesn't do shit for my disabilities outside of maybe some stability. Exercising everyday doesn't make the pain go away. Without my medications and aids and nutrition plans and steroid injections and spinal adjustments and physical therapy (that takes my fibro and spine into account) and alternative work methods I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO WHAT I DO. Exercise alone is like trying to make a car run with no oil. Yes it'll go but it'll get more and more damaged till it can't and will need its entire engine replaced!
And yet I see new doctors and they look at me and the first thing out of their mouths is do I exercise? I should try doing a little every day :) and then i fucking blow their minds when I tell them about my job. No longer can they use that fucking cop out on me. I've been through this rodeo. Ive tried their suggestions. If you are in pain and nothing is helping? Exercise ain't going to do SHIT. You need to get to a point where you can move without severe pain first (if that's even possible). Then and only then should you consider implementing regular exercise if you can. Also weight loss talk is a red flag and a cop out. They made me lose 50+ lbs before they would look into the reasons behind my pain. Weight loss did nothing for me and exacerbated my pain.
I am living proof that all that shit is a lie and a cop out. That is the point of this post. I cannot believe people with serious medical conditions are being forced to put their bodies through extreme duress just to be believed. You are not disabled because of laziness or because you sit a lot. Plenty of people live seditary lifestyles and do not live in constant excruciating pain (they may develop disabilities later in life due to this however, and should be doing preventative exercises to maintain their health)
Please, share my story with doctors. Use me as an example. I am proof that "exercise first treat later" does not work. I should not have had to wait years to have my pain validated. I'd rather hundreds of fakers get (what? A blood test? An MRI?) than one chronically ill person get told to try yoga and go away by a doctor.

Six children have died from dehydration and malnutrition at hospitals in northern Gaza, the Health Ministry in the besieged Palestinian territory has said, as the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave worsens.
Two children died at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the ministry said on Wednesday. Earlier it reported that four children died at the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, while seven others remained in critical condition.
“We ask international agencies to intervene immediately to avert a humanitarian catastrophe in northern Gaza,” Health Ministry spokesperson Ashraf al-Qudra said in a statement, as Israel’s attacks on Gaza continue.
“The international community is facing a moral and humanitarian test to stop the genocide in Gaza.”
Kamal Adwan Hospital’s Director Ahmed al-Kahlout said that the hospital had gone out of service due to a lack of fuel to run its generators. On Tuesday, Al-Awda Hospital in Jabalia also went out of service for the same reason.
In a video posted on Instagram and verified by Al Jazeera’s Sanad verification unit, journalist Ebrahem Musalam shows an infant on a bed inside the pediatric department at Kamal Adwan Hospital, as power comes in and out.
Musalam said the children in the department are suffering from malnutrition and a lack of infant formula, and that necessary devices have stopped working due to the constant power outages as a result of fuel shortages.

Palestinian group Hamas on Wednesday said that the closure of Kamal Adwan Hospital would exacerbate the health and humanitarian crisis in Northern Gaza, which is already teetering on the brink of famine as Israel continues to block or disrupt aid missions there.
‘Killing and starvation’
On Wednesday, Israel said a convoy of 31 trucks carrying food had entered northern Gaza. The Israeli military office that oversees Palestinian civilian affairs, the Coordination of Government Activity in the Territories (COGAT), also said nearly 20 other trucks entered the north on Monday and Tuesday.
These were the first major aid deliveries in a month to the devastated, isolated area, where the United Nations has warned of worsening starvation.
Israel has held up the entry of aid into Gaza for weeks, with Israeli protesters taking part in demonstrations calling for no aid to be allowed into the territory, even as hunger and disease spread.
UN officials say Israel’s months-long war, which has killed nearly 30,000 people in Gaza, has also pushed a quarter of the population of 2.3 million to the brink of famine.
Project Hope, a humanitarian group operating a clinic in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, has said that 21 percent of the pregnant women and 11 percent of the children under the age of five it has treated in the last three weeks are suffering from malnutrition.
“People have reported eating nothing but white bread as fruit, vegetables, and other nutrient-dense foods are nearly impossible to find or too expensive,” Project Hope said.

In a joint communique on Wednesday, Qatar and France stressed their opposition to an Israeli military offensive on Rafah in southern Gaza and underlined their “rejection of the killing and starvation suffered by the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip”.
They called for the opening of all crossings into Gaza, including in the north, “to allow for humanitarian actors to resume their activities and notably the delivery of food supply and pledged jointly $200m effort in support of the Palestinian population”.
Jan Egeland, secretary-general of the Norwegian Refugee Council, also said Israel must allow aid trucks into Gaza in order to address the dire humanitarian crisis.
“Hundreds of aid trucks wait in line to cross into Gaza at the Rafah and Kerem Shalom [Karem Abu Salem] crossings to a starving civilian population,” Egeland said in a social media post, with a video showing scores of aid trucks lined up.
“There has not been a single day we have gotten the needed 500 trucks across. The system is broken and Israel could fix it for the sake of the innocent.”

Medical aid group Doctors Without Borders, also known as Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), has meanwhile said that medical workers are struggling to serve hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Gaza who are living in dire conditions with nowhere to go.
“Healthcare has been attacked, it’s collapsing. The whole system is collapsing. We are working from tents trying to do what we can. We treat the wounded. With the displacements, people’s wounds have been infected. And I’m not even talking about the mental wounds. People are desperate. They don’t know anymore what to do,” MSF’s Meinie Nicolai said.

Bruno's Health After the Walls
This has probably been done before, in fact there's an analysis of the long term effects Bruno's terrible posture has probably had on his spine out there somewhere, that lives rent free in my head. But I wanna do it anyways!
So, let's talk about how living in the walls for ten years probably affected Bruno's health.
First and foremost, let's talk about what isolation does to a person, particularly lack of human touch. Because Bruno was probably ok listening in on his family's conversations, but he has gone a decade without a single hug. I'm sure most of us have heard of that one study where they took a couple of orphaned babies and just didn't give them any physical contact. The babies almost died. So yeah! Bruno is not ok.
Then there's lack of sunlight. It's possible that he's been sneaking out to get fresh air every once in a while, so we'll say this is minimal. But a slight vitamin D deficiency still means lethargy, insomnia, bone/muscle pain, and his OCD would be worse (sunlight helps boost serotonin). So, Bruno is not ok.
He's probably malnourished, even if he's stealing enough food from the kitchen quantity wise, his cooking limitations and reliance on scraps probably means he's not getting a balanced diet. Depending on what nutrients he's not getting this could lead to muscle loss, decrease bone density, affect his immune system, and cause heart problems. And if he's relying too much on a certain food group that could lead to all sorts of long term damage to his digestive system, think things like an overworked liver. Bruno is not ok.
Sanitation is another thing, we see that his living space is overrun with rats. They are a remarkably clean animal, but they still have to poop and stuff. Overexposure to feces of any animal exposes you to all types of disease, viruses, bacteria, mold, you name it. Combined with how dusty it is back there and Bruno is probably breathing the grossest air in human history, possibly doing permanent damage to his respiratory system. Bruno is not ok.
Finally, add in the physical activity required for him to navigate in the walls. There's that big ass hole in the floor that he's apparently been vaulting over for years now. While running is good for your cardiovascular health, it is hell on your joints, and if he already has all of the problems listed above it’s a miracle his knees haven’t given out. Some have suggested that Julieta’s food only heals people if she’s the one giving it, let’s hope for Bruno’s sake that’s not the case, because otherwise… Bruno is NOT ok.
In conclusion, Bruno is not ok after spending ten years in the walls and he is going to need some serious rehabilitation. Honestly, realistically, I would expect him to have scurvy, or be missing hair and fingernails, or something; but it’s a kid’s movie so let’s just handwave a little and say the miracle has prevented the worst of it. The good news is he seems to have held up remarkably well mentally speaking, and is only a little crazy, so with some love and support (and healing magic) he’s still able to have a happy life.

Guys instead of having a sweet treat I have been having a liter of infusion tea with stevia each night since the 29th of October and I have been waking up with a flat stomach everyday until I drink loads of water to avoid eating and I end up bloated for a while.
So I call this the skinny drink:
I boil water to 100 degrees. I use saffron like about 1/2 of a tablespoon because it has been shown to reduce appetite and aid in weight loss. (For example, a 2023 study found that taking 60 mg of saffron per day for 12 weeks was significantly more beneficial than a placebo in reducing body mass index)
But it’s expensive. REALLY expensive. So this is very optional and I personally only did it once. I use bay leaves (proven to reduce anxiety, bloating and improve sleep) 4 to 5 sticks of cinnamon to control blood sugar. And 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon. Basil leaves that improve blood glucose levels and lipid levels as well and reducing anxiety and stress. 2 tablespoons of turmeric to reduce inflammation and joint pain. And as you know inflammation makes you swollen so this reduces swelling including the swelling of the face from binge purging and eating junk food. There has also been studies that show if you add turmeric into your diet you can reduce belly fat by 20%. Also add two teaspoons of ginger (reduces bloating) ginger has a compound called gingerol cayenne pepper (one teaspoon) (it helps boosting fat loss and the metabolism of fat into energy. I also sprinkled a little black pepper because there is a compound in it called piperine that has been shown to help the conversion of fat into energy. Oregano oil has carvacrol that aids in weight loss, it helps in reducing visceral fat
I let it boil for 2 more minutes with these spices and add 50g of stevia (1 calorie) to it in the end.
And the longer you let it infuse the better the benefits are. Of course this alone won’t make you lose weight but having an easy action you can take to get to your goal faster and to remind you of your goal can be beneficial even to get you back on track mentally!
So the quick recipe is:
-1/2 teaspoon of saffron (very optional you can use it once a week if you can get it inside your budget)
-5 sticks of cinammon. 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
-7 bay leaves. (You can use dry ones but fresh is better)
-10-20 basil leaves (you can use dry one but fresh is better)
-2 tablespoons of turmeric
-2 teaspoons of ginger
-1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
-A sprinkle of black pepper. (Or use the whole ones and then strain the infusion after letting it boil for 2 minutes.)
50g of stevia for sweetness. You can add a teaspoon of spirulina as well for anti inflammatory properties
If you aren’t afraid of oil and can get it inside your calorie budget you can use oregano oil (one teaspoon for the added mental health and weight loss benefits). Also good fats has been shown to reduce cravings in small portions.
And you can add and this is optional basil seeds and chia seeds one teaspoon of each. To reduce chances of binging and making you full. (Add them after straining with a coffee filter everything)
For a touch of colour and added anti inflammatory benefits you can add one teaspoon of spirulina so you can have a fun blue drink
Spirulina is a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids. It's also high in the vegan protein phycocyanin, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Many antioxidants in spirulina have anti-inflammatory effects in your organism.
You can also have on the side some nuts to help blood glucose stability and to feel full. Nuts also have loads of healthy fats that keep your skin youthful, you hair shiny and strong and your nails as well.
I personally add a teaspoon of pine nuts to one cup of this concoction. I chose pine nuts for a reason
(Pine nuts are rich in magnesium, iron, antioxidants, zinc, and protein, which can help with diabetes prevention and management , heart health, and brain health. Other nutrients in pine nuts include Phosphorus and Vitamin K)
I hope this was interesting. I find psycho nutrition ( a new field in medicine) super fascinating and useful. Please send asks if you have any questions or if you need advice on how to use nutrition to improve mental health and aid in weight loss. Of course this isn’t a replacement for psychotherapy and it should be used with medication if you do have psychiatric medications you take. I see a psychiatrist, a psychologist specialising in ed, ptsd and borderline personality disorder. Getting mental health is super important.
Oh another thing ! Please make sure that all of these ingredients do not have a bad interaction with your medication if you have any. Look for good interactions only. Vidal is a website that has all kinds of interactions with medications and it’s a website/app my doctor parents use to prescribe medication while becoming sure it doesn’t interact with other medications their patients take. But since everything is a chemical compound you have to be absolutely sure even if it’s not a « medication » it still can have interactions with medications. For example my grandma has to do dialysis and has all kinds of medication including blood thinning medication and she can’t eat potassium at all because it will poison her. So no bananas no dates ect. In a normal situation potassium is very good for us but in her case it is bad because her kidney (she was born with one large kidney instead of two) can’t filter it out.

if you are eating below your bmr, or fasting, or whatever, please make sure to take your vitamins.
it doesn't matter how good your diet is, you can prioritise eating healthy and a variety of fruit and veg and drink enough water or whatever, but if you are physically not eating enough, if you are in a large calorie deficit, you will not be consuming enough nutrients or vitamins. there is no exception.
i believed i was the exception to this rule. i eat healthy, most of my diet is different fruit and veg and eggs, and sometimes bread. i thought i was eating healthy enough and had enough variety so i didnt need to bother with supplements or vitamins.
i bruise incredibly easily, i am constantly nauseous, i have almost fainted multiple times, im losing hair, i have constant headaches as if ive been hit in the head with a brick, my old scars have started to scab over and bleed because my body isnt producing enough collagen to heal itsself, i am pasty white and my skin is breaking out terribly, all of my joints are swollen and i struggle to walk, i am so so cold inside and out and nothing helps. i am not even underweight, but i am malnourished. you are not the exception either.
i will be taking my multivitamins every morning from now on, as we all should be. i will also probably be taking a break from posting and maintaining for a little while until i feel better, so ill see yall in a little bit but stay safe and hydrated <3
never feel bad for prioritising your health, the goal is to be skinny not dead.
