#seeing these next to each other is so crazy-making #louis leaving enough room for him and lestat to take up equal space in the first one #vs the second one where lestat takes up most of the coffin so that louis has to curl in on himself to fit
#the fact that louis is always the one closing the lid# the way the camera angles are almost identical yet the composition feels entirely different #even though we can't see their faces in the first one it feels so much more open because of their poses
#we're getting a stolen glimpse into their relationship through their actions and their voices #so we don't even need their expressions #but in the second one with louis' arm crossing the frame and all the shadows being cast it feels like we're being cut out #even though the first one is a scene where they're trying to hide the second scene is the one where they seem distant and isolated #we can even see their faces but their expressions just look dead
#also. how did i never notice lestat's hand sliding from louis's face to his chest in the first one until now #he loves touching his chest so much. feeling is heart. im gonna be sick (via @fucklestat)

IWTV references in Queen of the Damned
I was reading the part of Queen of the Damned where Jesse is researching the events of Interview with the Vampire, and there were a few things in particular that caught my attention.
First when describing Louis and Lestat, Jesse says
"Lestat was the villain of the piece, and the leader. Louis, his anguished subordinate, was the hero, and the one telling the tale."
I literally laughed out loud at this, because so many people who have only watched the show, or only read the first book, have said almost the same exact thing, and it is just not true. (In Jesse's defense, she has also only read the first book, since this is a flashback, and there only was one book in her universe at the time.)
Then the is an entry from Claudia's diary, where she describes Lestat giving her yet another doll, and when he finally seems to understand that Claudia no longer wants the dolls, Claudia describes his reaction like this
"The expression on his face is so dark suddenly, I think, this cannot be my Lestat"
Claudia referring to him as "my Lestat" was striking enough, but then she goes on to describe her feelings for him and Louis.
"I wish that I could hate him. I wish that I could hate them both. But they defeat me not with their strength, but with their weakness. They are so loving! And so pleasing to look at."
So, clearly, those people who think that Lestat was always horrible to Claudia should hear from Claudia herself.
There is also a line where Jesse states that the coven destroyed Claudia on Armand's orders, so, apparently Jesse thinks Armand could have prevented it.

Hello Nalyra:) thank you for always taking your time and mental energy to answer everybody’s questions!
I was surprised at the casting news of Talamasca! I was expecting Jess as the lead—but I’ve only read books in VC. So whats Talamasca’s role in Mayfair witch’s story, do they have enough materials across Anne Rice’s universe to build a X-file like show?
And based on the IMDb intro on Talamasca—werewolves are real as well! Will there be room for crossovers?
Thank you so much and all the best!
Hey dear! Well, I do think there is more than enough to build something quite cool - if they do it properly.^^
The Talamasca exist in all branches of the supernatural novels I believe - the Vampire Chronicles, the werewolf books (though I don't think it's explicitly mentioned?), the Mayfair Witches. There's also more supernatural beings within these books, "true" immortals, gods, angels, spirits, aliens... you name it.
If AMC plays their cards right they can set up something quite captivating, especially given the roots of the Talamasca 😈
As per their role in Mayfair Witches... here is an article by Collider explaining that a bit, and here the Wikipedia article on them generally. I... am unsure how to narrow it down with what we are given at this point. They could do a lot with them?! Generally the Talamasca supposedly watch and do not interfere... only the "not interfering" doesn't really work out like that, lol.
There should be a lot of room for crossovers, actually... again, if done right. Mayfair Witches and IWTV share a hometown (NOLA) and the universe is the same. It would be stupid not to link them in some manner, imho.
If Jesse Reeves and David Talbot really get cast right now it will be really interesting to see for what... and in what capacity. Because as speculated before it seems as if Daniel might take over some of the "chronicling"... so maybe David will stay "just" the superior general of the Talamasca? Or will he become one of Lestat's fledglings after all?
And Jesse... so connected to the twins, and a powerful vampire, too. There is a lot they could do with the Talamasca agent Jesse Reeves... a lot with Claudia's ghost, too.
And the upcoming concerts 😈
So yeah. There is a lot they could do.
I hope they do indeed do so :)))))

also objectively the "you promised you wouldn't talk" line is so funny because it means dreamstat is just hanging around the entire time. louis is like please can you just sit in the corner for a bit and not talk so i can have gay sex with your ex. like you can stay just don't talk.
also implies there's been enough times that he HAS talked whilst louis and armand have sex, that he has to make him promise not to this time, which is also quite funny.

some plots i want 2 explore w my girl ....
iwtv style where some1 writes her story 🫡 can tap into the unreliable narrator-ness of jess considering most of the things she thinks are happy memories are actually Not
hiding as a baby vampire while her father runs for presidency. he deemed her a missing persons so the police are looking for her 🤭
tvd!jess . just her freakin the fuck out about silas and spiralinggggg bc those idiots wanna raise him and she already went thru that once before with the witch covens she hung around and watched get slaughtered by kol so she's literally eye twitching and getting defensive about EVERYYYTHING and causing fights to stop them
just doing her cannibal bakery business i think having business deals with other killers would be v fun

Sorry this is long. I'm working through the thought as I write this.
There's a post with kinda a lot of notes going around that idk how jokey it is and it's like here's what you need to have read/seen before watching IWTV so you understand the abusive patriach.
And well, I feel like it's part of the pattern of ppl pushing the show's critique of the abuse family structures enable in a way where they won't have to talk about race. How does Revolutionary Girl Utena relate to IWTV? How does Succession? I've never seen Succession, but their cast is almost completely white, which is racial commentary all its own... In Utena neither race nor colorism ever figures into the narrative iirc. I haven't read the Cairo trilogy since uni but I don't remember race factoring into it either??
Like Lestat was the abusive patriach of their family bcuz he's white! His power is gendered bcuz race is gendered (becuz power is gendered and so on). I think the show is in greater dialogue with James Baldwin and bell hooks than Yoji Enokido and Jesse Armstrong! Baldwin outright, didn't Rolin Jones say in an interview once that Giovanni's Room was a direct inspiration?
It just bothers me. The omission of art by Black creators was so striking I felt like someone slapped me. And maybe if then the tone wasn't so condescending and the idea that you have to have read The Oresteia to understand patriarchal violence so classist, maybe I could shrug it off. But you couple both and I'm like damn we squeezed the Greek and the Japanese in but don't mention even one Black person. I'm not saying the OP did it on purpose cuz I don't know the OP, but it felt so so glaring to me the times I've seen the post. Especially ppl sharing it going yeah exactly!! 😐
Lestat As Patriach to me is just more about white supremacy than the cisheteropatriarchy, and how despite Lestat's promises to Louis (be all the beautiful things you are etc) vampirism could not and does not free Louis (+ Claudia) from anti-Blackness. Altho patriarchy and white supremacy are closely related and both relevant to the show, obvs, it just rubs me wrong when one is ignored in favour of the other. And of course it's always the critique of whiteness that ends up ignored 🤔
Why is everyone so scared of mentioning that Louis is Black? Ugh. Sorry. I'd like your thoughts this fandom makes me feel like I'm off my meds. - 🦁
Tumblr media
sry it took me a min to get to this, I wanted to track down the post itself for context. I can't find OP's username now but I remember seeing it before and it not being familiar. so idk otherwise what they've said about this post for the tone and intention.
I can say tho that utena and succession have made rounds here in comparison to iwtv from black fans sometimes. but I've also seen this post otherwise criticized before this ask for not having any black references on it. I tried to find that rolin quote about giovanni's room too, cuz I remember it, but idk where it is or what the whole context was anymore.
from being around the tumblr fandom, what I can say about this kind of stuff is that....from the book ppl to show fandom, both sides usually want to "prove" they're rly smart? it's for diff reasons but sometimes the same references. fandom in general keeps moving towards if u can make ur argument about whatever thing sound deep then that means it is and more ppl will support it. there's a lot of constant misuse of social justice and psychological terms as well as connections to art and literature. look how often ppl never talk about anything critically bcuz "it's gothic romance, sweetie" or "stop looking for morality in stories about vampires" (that was anne rice's whole point tho?? but ok lol). it's a lot of words to say nothing.
ppl will basically always jump thru more hoops than is necessary to look smart in ways that ppl have a broad connection to. a lot of black creators aren't well known to ppl in the first place and mostly only prbly by black ppl too, so referencing anything doesn't get u the points that greek "classics" or pop references get. it also depends on the age range of where anything is posted. this fandom tends to be 20s to 40s but with more emphasis on 20s now, prbly, so lots of focus on proving ur worth and intelligence in the world. this post feeds that type of thing. it's kind of a pat on the head that ur engaging with "smart" stuff.
idk if the post *was* meant as a joke or not bcuz this is the kind of stuff the fandom *will* weaponize in defense of white fandom shit in rly racist ways, so. like u said, it's always kind of about all these other things except the most obvious.....which doesn't take much book smarts to see, u just look at the world around u on any given day. but I've noticed ppl tend to avoid topics that hit too close to home, so this is a way to give distance to things too, I think. If it's all fictional then it can't hurt u fr and also u don't have to care about being vocal about anything or doing any work otherwise.

Do you think they are going to film Louis meeting Lestat in modern day Nola?
I think there's several possibilities, actually, depending on how "modern" that "modern era" is... one of them being that one, of course:
it could be Daniel, then, looking for Lestat (and finding Armand) (of course originally that would be the 70s, but that depends on how they spin it I think)
it could Jesse (or someone being a mix of several characters), searching for something - and finding Claudia's diaries. Daniel did call "bullshit" on Louis' comment where the diaries had been for the first interview after all
it could be David, or a mix of characters/someone repurposed for that part coming to check on a comatose Lestat
it could be Armand, coming to complain about Louis to Lestat (of all people) sometime in-between then and now
it could be Louis, going by their old home, just watching, with Armand, or without
it could be Louis alone, visiting Lestat (as described in the book) and as you mentioned
it could be Lestat, dragging himself out for a snack sometime in-between, or rising
it could be someone completely else, maybe entering without permission, as those vampires in Prince Lestat, or Quinn in Blackwood Farm etc etc, connecting the present time with upcoming events
etc etc
So there's actually a lot of possibilities I think.
Hopefully we will find out who is filming there^^ ... then narrowing it down should be a bit easier.
I mean, I presume it will be Louis visiting a healing and worn down Lestat - the very scene which is debated as "never to have happened" in The Tale of the Body Thief... I think since it is in IWTV and playing so very perfectly with the Memory is a Monster angle that this will be very fitting.
However, this too depends heavily on how they connect s2 and s3.
Because... one way or another - it needs to segue into Lestat being there to narrate his story (or someone else giving part of the story, though I think I remember them saying in s3 it would be Lestat narrating his own story/POV).
And if it is Louis visiting a Lestat that is about to go to earth... then "modern era" is not "now".
It depends :)))
If it is "now"... then it might connect to upcoming events.
In any case I hope that those who can make it to the location will be in luck and see whoever is filming. Please give them a virtual hug from me 💕
