The Talamasca – foundation year and motherhouses

In the preview for Mayfair Witches 02x04, there is a blink and you miss it shot of a room with a fireplace.

The sign is the Talamasca's motto in five languages (Latin, Dutch, Turkish, probably Japanese?, English):

Spectamus et semper ibi sumus Wij kijken en wij kijken altijd Izliyoruz ve her zaman izliyoruz ??? We watch and we are always there

And then there's the year: DCCLVIII

My interpretation is that the 758 refers to the year the Talamasca was founded in the Immortal Universe (as far as I know, there's no precise date given in the books). The languages indicate where the main motherhouses are located around the globe: Rome, Amsterdam, NOLA, New York, and London (these are the ones known from other sources). My guess is that Turkish and Japanese(?) could mean Istanbul and Tokyo.

Hopefully the episode will touch on this. Or at least show the sign more clearly 😅

after watching ep 3 of the mayfair witches second season, i can firmly say that esta spalding has now mischaracterised lestat even more than rolin has

however, why would louis and armand hire someone whose mind they couldn’t read? it’s a very odd thing for them to do to keep real rashid around

unless some talamasca agents can also fake thoughts and not just be a blank like cip is (after moira the mind reader can tell that she can’t read cip’s mind which is clearly unusual), it still doesn’t explain anything. in fact raises more questions, which hopefully will have answers eventually if real rashid can only block people from reading his mind, his vampire employers would either be really suspicious of him from the get-go or for some reason already know he’s talamacsa, if the organizations tactics are known to them

For anybody who had questions about why Armand and Louis didn’t know Rashid worked for the Talamasca, Mayfair Witches confirmed that all Talamasca agents are trained on how to guard their thoughts against mind readers. I don’t know if this is book accurate or not, but it is the canon in the showverse so, if you were wondering, there you go.

Lestat teaching Felix Darwin's theory about survival of the fittest? Just no. That would be a other butchering of his character. And if Felix is actually a millennial he would have to meet Lestat when he was already on a self-punishing rat diet, in terrible mental state and in no position to be a teacher to anyone. I really hope that Esta calling Felix Lestat's student is just her (wrong) interpretation and not actual canon and that Felix is basically a non-character that we'll never see again. She asked if she could borrow a vampire from Rolin's show and the fact that he chose dispensable Felix tells me that he didn't want any important characters in this show lol.

In any case that’s just… no. And it doesn’t really fit with the timeline either.

I have listened to some of Esta‘s statements and… well. What she say does often not transmit onscreen and tbh I think that’s the same here as well. Just… *waves hand* a try to pull the IWTV fans in a bit more.

IF Rolin actually set up Felix as Lestat‘s or Lestat as Felix‘ teacher though… then that’s (another? s3 will tell!) gross mischaracterization.

Mayfair Witches second week ratings surpassing the entire IWTV s2.

No matter how much the fandom tries to make it seem like MW is a flop, it's still performing better than iwtv, it managed to grow in the second week, something iwtv struggled to achieve.

Unfortunately iwtv has difficulty maintaining a regular audience due to the more contemplative passing and the lyrical prose, which elevates the series as a whole, but ends up losing the attention of a less engaged audience. MW, being more generic, attracts more attention. not to mention IWTV surviving as a queer show… I have to confess that I fear what amc might force Rolin to do in the future for the show to align with some expectations, especially given the climate we are living in!
