We live in the dumbest, lamest cyberpunk dystopia possible.

So LA has been — and continues to — protest against ICE. These protests haven’t gotten any smaller or lost any momentum, but social media wasn’t reflecting it.

TikTok users, realizing that the platform/other social media are censoring/deleting/shadowbanning these protest videos, decided to find a workaround.

They’re calling it the LA Music Festival. Ice detention centers and other protest locations are “stages.” The hottest band is Rage Against the Machine. “Here’s what gear you should be bringing to stay safe at the LA Music Festival.”

And it fucking worked.

TikTok has become a proving ground for a lot of new music, meaning lots of labels and organizations have lucrative deals with TikTok to promote their new artists and music festivals. So they absolutely cannot censor the words “music festival” or train the algorithm to ignore it, or they risk endangering that very important revenue.

So now protest videos are flooding feeds again, but it’s the LA 24/7 Music Festival. Truly an incredible timeline we’ve landed in.

Hello! Im new to the queer as folk fandom and i would like to know what you think about michael and brian relationship? Im amazed that anyone would think that brian was in love with michael. I same across an account and they somehow made everything about brian and michael being in love with each other and no matter what i do i cant see it.

Hi dear sweet anon! I too cannot see the ship between Brian and Michael.

My thoughts on their relationship are: Michael served an important purpose in Brian’s life when they were kids - his home was a safe refuge and he was kind and accepting. Brian protected Michael from the bullies at school and Michael gave Brian a way to escape the bullies at home.

After they graduate high school and Brian goes off to university and Michael fails out of community college less than a semester in, their relationship makes less sense. They’re no longer living similar lives. But, more importantly, Michael clings to one version of Brian (his hero on many levels - the one who protected him and the one he admires for his life’s philosophy and resulting sexual conquests). It’s a very two dimensional version.

My belief is that to have a true friendship, we must see our friends fully. And we must allow them to grow and change. This is a very hard thing for many people to do. Michael (and many of Brian’s friends) struggle to see him fully (they only see the strength, not the vulnerability) and to allow him to grow. For Michael, Brian is no more complex than the superheroes on the pages of his comic books.

This is all well and good when Brian has no interest in introspection or change. But then Justin comes along and Brian starts to change. Not drastically but in terms of his willingness to have some sort of relationship. And we see pushback “this isn’t who you are” etc.

I do think there’s some jealousy there - Michael believed that the only reason he wasn’t in a relationship with Brian is that Brian doesn’t and would never want one. But here he is, seemingly interested in having a (unconventional) relationship but it’s not with Michael! Which makes sense. If you’ve ever been in a long term relationship (which Michael hadn’t either at that point!), it won’t work if your partner only sees the two- dimensional, idealized version of you.

Justin meanwhile comes along and doesn’t have a preconceived notion of who Brian is and that gives Brian the freedom to explore and experiment with what he might want. I just reblogged a list of all the ways Brian shows Justin he loves him and I would add the cherry on top: his “only time” speech where he tells Justin their love is so powerful and great that it transcends time and space (and commuter flights).

I want to be clear that even though I see flaws in Michael (and every character). I love them for it. Michael is annoying but he’s also very real (lbr people are annoying). I have empathy for him (not for his comment in 301 though) and I think he gets his happily ever after with Ben and lets go of his boyhood crush on Brian.
