So I watched Ride The Cyclone for the first time the other day. Right now, I re-listened to The Ballad of Jane Doe, and I noticed a parallel. (it might be a reach. I might just be going crazy lmao)

The line "time eats all his children in the end" is, as we know, a reference to greek mythology, specifically the myth of Cronus, the god/titan (?) of time, eating his children to prevent them from overthrowing him.

But I noticed a deeper parallel - the gods who were eaten are five of the Olympians (Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia), but Zeus wasn't. Zeus saved them.

In a way, Zeus and Jane Doe from RTC are very similar. They are both "introduced" later than the others (Zeus being the youngest, Jane literally being introduced later). And while Jane didn't specifically "save" the choir (who there are five of, just like the five gods who were eaten), she was the one to live. Zeus wasn't eaten like his siblings. He wasn't doomed. His mother replaced him with a rock, which Cronus mistook for him and ate. And just like him, Jane was different from the rest; she lived. The others died, like how the gods were eaten, but Jane was saved, and she avoided that and got to live.

Idk, this might just be my greek mythology obsessed brain going insane, but I think it's pretty cool once you really think about it. Thank you for coming to my ted talk :)

Aaron’s job isn’t one that allows him to take much time off of work, even when he wants to. You know it, and would never be angry at him for it, so when you wake up feeling a little too warm, you reassure him that you’ll be fine by yourself.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to stay?” He asks, already dressed in his suit and sitting on the edge of the bed by your waist. “I can if you want me to.”

Of course the only time he’d be eager to ask for a day off is when it’s in your favor. He doesn’t even call out when he’s the one who’s sick.

“No, you can’t, Aaron. They need you over there,” you say, hoping your smile is convincing enough. “I’m just gonna sleep this off. I’ll be fine.”

He sighs, reluctant to leave even though he sort of has to, even though he knows you can take care of yourself. He just hates not being the one to do so, anyways.

Hotch leans over to press a kiss to your heated cheek, “I’ll call you when I can to check in, okay?”

“You really don’t have to-”

“Let me do that, at least, sweetheart.”

“Okay.”

He kisses your cheek again and then stands to leave, pausing at the bedroom doorway to turn back and look at you one more time. You snake your hand out from under the sheets and give him a thumbs up.

Aaron calls you exactly five times throughout the day, most of them quick, couple-minute phone calls where he asks how you’re doing, if you’ve eaten. One of them during his lunch—which he rarely takes—and lasting nearly half an hour, him doing most of the talking.

The sun is close to setting by the time he gets home, where Aaron finds you curled up on the couch in the comforter from your bed, your skin clammy, your baby hairs sticking to your forehead.

His heart aches a little bit at the sight, because he knows you’ve been downplaying how sick you feel all day to keep him from worrying, as if anything could.

Hotch walks over to the couch, crouching in front of where your head is propped up on a pillow. “Sweetheart.”

“Hi, Aaron.”

He presses the back of his hand to your forehead, frowning at how warm you feel. “Why didn’t you tell me you have a fever? You should be in bed.”

“Got too warm in there, then too cold out here, so I took the comforter. Hope that’s okay.”

The medicine you took hours ago hasn’t done much other than make you a little groggy, and it’s clear in the way you speak with your cheek still squished to the pillow, your eyelids heavy.

Aaron’s hand is still on your forehead, like he can will your fever away with his touch. “Have you slept? Are you hungry?”

You shake your head, “don’t really feel like eating.”

“You should,” he says. “How about I run you a bath and make you some soup? Then bed.”

“Okay, doctor Hotchner.”

He shakes his head, though the small smile on your face as you tease him makes him smile, too. Even feeling poorly, you manage to brighten his day. A ray of sunshine.

He does exactly as promised, and after a bath and a generous bowl of soup that Hotch made sure you finished, you’ve got your head in his lap, his hand gently pushing your hair back.

Looking down, Aaron finds you still awake, blinking up at him lazily. “Aren’t you tired?”

“It’s been hard to sleep,” you say, fingers fiddling with the hem of his t-shirt. “Will you read to me?”

“Sure, sweetheart. Pick a book.”

You choose, and whine when he gets up to go get it even though he’s back in a matter of seconds. With your cheek comfortably pressed against his thigh once again, he starts reading to you.

You’ve always loved Aaron’s voice, the way it sounds when he speaks to you, the low and calm tone that seems to wash over you. He’s using a gentle voice now, a quiet one that you love even more because it’s one he saves for you. Intimate and lovely.

It’s only with his hand in your hair and his voice in your ears that you’re finally able to fall asleep.

Girl in the Fireplace Rant (cont.)

There was at least some engagement on my last post about this so I decided I will in fact post a follow up. GitF was 100% a bad faith episode. Moffat wrote it because he is classist and misogynistic and hates Rose. Unfortunately, part of his purpose for the episode was to show that the Doctor will always prefer a “classy” aristocrat over Rose and he wanted to have her treated as nothing. So, all of us Rose fans have to come up with a headcanon that undermines the writer’s intentions.

I think the most common one is to believe the episode was the Doctor’s attempts to push Rose away because of her mortality and how that scares him.

That never worked for me because a major part of the Doctor’s character is his protectiveness. He would never push her away to the point of danger or abandonment. For me, I feel that fictional or not, the actions of the Doctor in that episode would be entirely unforgivable if they did happen. So my headcanon is that this episode was a nightmare Rose had.

If you are like me are also one of the fans for whom the pushing her away theory doesn’t work, read on for my explanation of why I don’t think GitF could be an actual event within canon. Moffat may be a BBC writer but it doesn’t give him a right to completely undermine the show, it doesn’t actually belong to anyone outside of financial concerns. If you’re content with believing he needed to push Rose away and that the episode did happen, you can ignore this.

Why the events GitF did not happen within canon (but could’ve happened as a nightmare)

1. Doctor Who canon is very loose as it is. With multiple writers across multiple mediums, things do contradict each other and us as fans get to decide for ourselves what fits with canon and what does not.

2. The Doctor has been clearly shown to be in love with Rose. He is protective of her to the point that if a decision will kill everyone else but give her even a slight chance of survival, he can’t actually make that decision. He almost did in Dalek, but after she didn’t get through the barricade the first time he was incapable of significantly reducing her safety for the good of everyone else. He snapped awake from a regeneration coma just because Rose said “help me”. He freaked out when Cassandra had her body and again in Tooth and Claw when she was in trouble. If you count Stone Rose that almost certainly took place before GitF and he once again, lost his mind over Rose being a statue.

I do understand seeing Sarah Jane age freaked him out. And I could’ve understood him distancing himself from Rose a bit in some way. But his instinct to protect her is so strong he’d never sacrifice her safety to push her away. Leaving her alone with clockwork for an extended period of time while he partied and invented drinks is impossible enough. Let alone the way he believed he’d have no way back to the ship when he went through the time window for the last time. Not only had he just promised she could spend the rest of her life with him, but her and Mickey would’ve likely died alone on that abandoned spaceship.

Simply, it’s just too out of character to happen within the rest of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors’ canon.

3. The horse. I have been a big horse person my entire life. Horses have extremely strong flight instincts. Even the most trusting and well trained horse in the world is never going to jump through reinforced glass. I do realize as Sci Fi fans we have to suspend disbelief for a lot of things. But we are never given an explanation as to why this horse would behave so dramatically differently from another horse. Every bizarre thing we accept in the DW universe is explained to some extent. There is a book where the Doctor tames a horse with psychic paper. But that horse is never asked to violate its instincts. That horse behaves as any other tame horse behaves. That is an example of acceptable DW suspension of belief. There is still a sci fi/alien technical explanation and I can absorb it. I cannot absorb a horse jumping through a firm glass window unless they were running from something even scarier. No matter how well trained a horse is, it’s not jumping through glass just because a humanoid asked them to. Nothing was chasing Arthur and his body language did not suggest any kind of fear to indicate he was running from something even scarier. All the droids were already in the other side of the window as well. It’s simply bizarre and impossible, even in a sci fi snow. Within this very show the Doctor states you can’t hypnotize someone beyond their survival instincts. I believe this applies to horses and a horse’s instincts is to avoid jumping through or into a reinforced barrier.

Next, we are given no explanation as to how this horse jumped through glass unscathed. Glass that was said to be so strong only a truck could break through. Horses are also extremely delicate and many have fatally injured themselves just playing in the paddock. Even for injuries not that extreme, every horse person knows that even small things result in giant vet bills.

Finally, it is once again grossly out of character for the Doctor to take a living animal and make them do something he previously calculated would required a truck.

4. Things are back to normal as if the episode never happened by the Rise of the Cybermen. If the Doctor had really developed feelings for another woman so strong that he would leave Rose for dead, then lost her, would he just be back to being the same old Doctor the very next episode? I doubt it. The Doctor is also a character known for holding on to guilt. Even if Reinette was mechanism to push Rose away, the way he abandoned her would’ve caused enough guilt he wouldn’t just be normal the very next episode. The show carries on as if Reinette never happened because Reinette never happened.

The only reference to that GitF is some clockwork droids in John Smith’s journal. Which could be explained by another encounter with the droids or by the Doctor looking at Rose’s mind to see the nightmare. Which would be an intimate enough moment to imprint on John Smith’s subconscious. The words “a girl in every fireplace” can once again refer to the Doctor seeing Rose’s nightmare or another off screen adventure entirely. There is no reference strong enough to confirm the actual events of GitF ever happened. The show functions exactly the same way without it. Because, it never happened.

5. The events of the show make perfect sense as a nightmare in Rose’s head. Take it from someone with a degree in psychology. Rose has abandonment wounds from Jimmy Stone. She also has abandonment wounds from her father dying when she was too young to understand it. School Reunion, the episode right before GitF triggers her abandonment wounds by making her see the Doctor has previously left companions and did not come back for them. It also makes her wonder if she is special to the Doctor. These doubts combined with her past trauma are a perfect recipe for her to have a bizarre nightmare where she gets abandoned in the most horrific way after the events of School Reunion.

I will leave you all with my fic where this was all a nightmare. Or you can write your own if you prefer. My point is that for those who feel the way I do about this episode, we do not have to accept the events as canon. We do not have to believe the Doctor has ever treated Rose this way except in her worst nightmares.

Update to address Deep Breath:

1. Doctor mentioned seeing clockwork droids before, but we know that the Doctor has many off screen adventures. He could’ve encountered the droids at any other point in his entire life besides GitF.

2. As for that episode stating the SS Madame De Pompadour existed, that still doesn’t confirm anything. There was a real life ship called the USS Queen of France. This was named for Marie Antoinette. Jackie dated a sailor once and Rose had a friend named Keisha whose brother was a sailor. This means Rose could’ve heard one of them discussing historical naval ships. This how she would imagine a ship named after Madame de Pompadour in the first place. She and the people who built the SS Madame de Pompadour and SS Marie Antoinette would’ve simply drawn inspiration from the same place. Also, there’s the fact that someone named a fictional ship Titan many years before Titanic ever existed.

Update 2: Rose was going to get an A level in French if she hadn’t run off with Jimmy. So she could’ve reasonably been familiar with some aspects of French history and able to imagine all of these things in a dream, even if it wasn’t a historically accurate dream, everyone knows weird things happen in dreams.

summary: Hybrids were accepted in society to a certain degree. To some, they are for entertainment. Used as sex and money tools. To lock up and abuse whenever and however they please. Something to have control over. To others, they are companions. Just like regular animals are used for therapy or simply companionship, hybrids are too.

To the rest, they are just like everyone else. Someone with their own life who deserves the same freedoms as your everyday John or Jane Doe. Wren is one of these people. She hates the idea of owning a hybrid. She has nothing against those who own them for medical or companionship reasons. Just the rest.

But, when a ragtag pack of seven mismatched hybrids somehow ends up in the woods behind her home, she takes them in and does the one thing she never thought she would do. Own them. But, she also does something she didn't even think was possible. She fell in love with each and every one of them.

I decided to wake up early the next morning so that I could make breakfast for everyone. When I got downstairs, I noticed that it was still raining outside. Although it wasn’t as bad as last night, it still wasn’t anything that someone should be outside in.

Making breakfast was a challenge. This is the most food I’ve ever had to make at once. Not to mention that I have to make it as quiet as possible so as not to wake the hybrids with sensitive hearing.

About halfway through making breakfast, I heard light footsteps coming down the hall from the stairs. Turning towards the doorway of the kitchen, I see Seokjin peeking in. “Good morning,” I say and smile at him.

“Good morning,” his voice is still soft and quiet like it was last night. He fidgets in the doorway, watching as I move around the kitchen.

“Do you want to help?” I ask him.

He looks up at me, startled. “...Can I?”

“Of course. Do you know how to make pancakes?” He nods his head yes. “Great, then you can help me decide what kind to make. You know everyone’s preference better than I do so you’ll be a big help in making sure everyone eats happily.”

By the time the food was ready, we had made a wide variety of pancakes, eggs, and bacon, and had several bowls of mixed fruits as well. Being hybrids, especially those like the wolf and tiger, they will have big appetites. In general, they all will as grown men so I don’t have any doubt that all of the food will be eaten in no time.

“Seokjin?” I ask and he looks up at me with a hum from where he was helping set the table. “I can finish this if you want to go get everyone up please?” He nods and scampers to get the rest of his pack.

A few minutes later, loud shuffling is heard as all seven of them make their way toward me in the dining room. “Good morni–oof!” In the middle of greeting them, I was interrupted by a bundle of hyper, furry, warmth in the form of Jungkook. He rushed to me as soon as he saw me and wrapped me in his arms in a tight hug.

The others look at him in panic. “Jungkook!” Several of them shouted in worry.

I just laugh, gently patting him on the back, causing him to practically melt in my arms. “Well, good morning to you too, bunny. Did you sleep well?”

He pulls away from me and nods erratically. “Uh-huh! The bed was so warm and cozy. I haven’t slept this well in forever. I almost didn’t want to get up when Jin came to wake us up.” He smiles brightly showing me his adorable bunny teeth and I can hear his foot thumping happily against the floor again.

“Well, I’m glad to hear that.” I think I’m starting to understand the fond looks I’ve caught the others throwing at Jungkook when they think he isn’t looking. “You could have stayed in bed a bit longer if you wanted. Although, I’m not sure breakfast would taste as good warmed up in the microwave as opposed to fresh off the stove.”

His bunny ears perk up on top of his head at the mention of food and he quickly shuffles to the table. Everyone watches him go in silence before we all follow him, moods lifted due to his enthusiasm.

I turn to the others who still seem to be waiting for me to make the first move, despite Jungkook’s gung-ho attitude. “Well go ahead,” I tell them, gesturing to the table. “You don’t have to wait for me, help yourselves.”

Like the previous night, they all shuffled around the table, clumsily finding their seats. They kept the same configuration as before; the predators surrounding the prey and effectively cutting me off. I don’t mind though if that’s what it takes to keep them comfortable here.

With the risk of irritating them, I spoke up. “So I figured we should set some ground rules, you know, besides the few from last night.” They all shuffled nervously, slowing their eating. Namjoon and Yoongi particularly seemed bothered by this sentence as their eyes narrowed slightly at me in response.

Sensing their worry I work quickly to console them. “It’s nothing bad, I promise!” I wave my hands frantically.

Jimin peers at me curiously through his bangs. “What are the rules?” His voice was timid but it didn’t shake as he used it.

“Well, you guys are welcome to stay as long as you need to,” I say, smoothing the napkin down in my lap. “You can pretty much do whatever you’d like. The estate is big so there’s a lot to explore. I just ask that you be careful. This was my family’s home so lots of stuff in here has sentimental meaning.”

“I also ask that you maybe help around the house every so often…” I trail off as they all turn nervous and upset. “I’m not asking you to pick up a bunch of chores or anything like that! Maybe just help me keep tidy by cleaning up any messes you make. And Seokjin, I could tell you liked helping me with breakfast this morning.” The ferret hybrid turns slightly rosy with the attention now on him. “I would love your help every so often,” I say softly, chuckling under my breath. “Lord knows I’m not the best cook.”

They start to relax slightly but some tension remains, keeping the muscles in their bodies taught and hair on end.

They finished the rest of their breakfast in a slightly uncomfortable silence, the only sound heard was gentle chewing and the gentle scrape of forks against plates.

When morning pleasantries were done, they all stayed in their awkward huddle like the night before, waiting for me to give them instructions or dismiss them.

Jungkook shuffled in place and I could tell he wanted to say something. “What is it, Jungkook?” I asked, urging him to say what was on his mind.

“Umm…do you have any video games?” He asks shyly, bunny ears twitching nervously atop his head. The others look between the two of us timidly, as if waiting for me to snap at him for asking the question.

I chuckle softly, eyes lighting up. I’ve been waiting for someone who was enough of a challenge when it comes to gaming. “Of course I do!” I exclaim, ushering him to the spacious living room where my console sits. 

I’m learning very quickly that Jungkook is very animated in the way that his body seems to speak for him most of the time. His nose twitches in excitement as he bounds towards the large sofa, picking up a controller.

Jin slowly makes his way to the couch, taking up the space next to Jungkook. The other hybrids exchange a glance, trying to decide which predator will stay with their more docile counterparts. Taehyung squeezes his way between the two on the couch, making it clear to me that they are under his watch at the moment.

Not saying anything, I plop down in the recliner a few feet away and turn my attention to the remaining hybrids. “You’re more than welcome to stay and play with us. If not, there’s plenty else to do. There’s a small library, a home theater, an art studio, and of course your bedrooms and any other rooms you can find something to do as well.” As I list off things they can do, I notice some of their eyes light up about certain rooms.

Namjoon’s face seemed to brighten when I mentioned the library and Taehyung’s ears twitched slightly at the mention of the art room. Something to keep in mind later when he’s done staking claim over his pack mates.

With no further instructions needed, the rest of the hybrids dispersed, venturing to various places across the house while I settled in to play video games with the few that remained.

It’s been two weeks since Natasha and Maria caught Y/N sneaking back to her room after a vigilante mission she had with her girlfriend Kate. Which means it’s also been two weeks since Y/N has seen Kate, as her mothers thought grounding her was needed. It probably was, but she can still be annoyed about it.

Y/N is sitting on her bed, reading Jane Eyre with music playing from her phone. Her moms are downstairs cooking dinner for the three of them. A sudden clattering sound makes Y/N moves her attention away from the book. She looks around her room, but notices nothing moving or changing, so she turns back to her book.

The clatter can be heard again.

This time Y/N slams her book down to her bed, though not before putting a bookmark to the page she was in. She stands up and walks around her room, looking around for anything out of order. Just as her gaze goes over to the window, a small rock hits it, making a clattering sound.

With a frown, she looks out from the closed window. “Kate?” She mumbles, unlocking the window quickly. “What are you doing here?” Y/N whisper shouts, her head leaning out the window.

“I’m here to save my princess! Have you seen her? Her mothers locked her into a tower.” Kate giggles, her hands over her mouth in a cup like way to make sure Y/N can hear her.

Y/N scoffs with a grin, “come inside, idiot.” She glances between Kate climbing up the fore ladder and her closed door, desperately hoping her mothers haven’t heard the commotion. “You know I’m grounded, right?” She mumbles when Kate is finally inside.

“Yeah,” she kisses her before closing the window, “but I really missed you.” Kate goes to sit down on Y/N’s bed while looking at her room. She hasn’t actually been there before, as they tried to keep their relationship secret from Y/N’s moms.

She tries to act annoyed that Kate is endangering both of their wellbeing by sneaking into her room while her moms are home, but she can’t help but be happy her girlfriend is here. “I missed you too.”

Kate smiles, waving her fingers in a come here motion. As Y/N steps closer to her, she pulls her to her lap, wrapping her arms around the lower part of her waist. “How long are you still grounded for?” She speaks quietly, knowing her parents have an extra good hearing.

“Like another week, I think.” Y/N rolls her eyes, thinking her moms went overboard with the amount of grounding. “I’m also apparently never ever allowed to leave the house with you alone. So, you’re going to have to get used to hanging out here.”

Kate giggles, “I’ll live with that.” She tilts her head, suddenly dropping her smile. “Except I have to meet your parents before that, don’t I?” She frowns, her body tensing up at the thought of officially Maria and Natasha.

“You do.” Y/N hums, her hand going up to play with Kate’s hair.

“What if they won’t like me?”

Biting the inside of her cheek, she twirls a strand of hair around her finger. “They’ll like you..eventually.”

“What does that mean?”

“They’re just a but apprehensive of you after the whole vigilante thing.”

Kate groans, her forehead thudding against Y/N’s shoulder. “They hate me. I haven’t met them yet and they already hate me.”

“They don’t hate you,” Y/N cradles Kate’s head, “they just don’t like that we’ve been sneaking out to fight people.”

“Well,” she sighs, “I guess that makes sense.”

“You think?”

Kate gives Y/N’s shoulders a couple of light bites when she laughs. They start giggling together and fall down to the bed, Y/N on top of Kate.

During their giggling, that has gotten a bit too loud, they fail to notice the footsteps coming towards the room. “Y/N, the dinner i-“ Natasha stops talking as she notices her daughter isn’t alone.

“Mom!” Y/N jumps up, falling off of the bed in the process. Kate scrambles up from the bed, her eyes comically wide as she stares at Natasha staring at the two with a scarily calm expression. Y/N stands up, the three of them stand there in silence. “This is Kate.” She mumbles

“Maria!” Natasha shouts. “Come up here.” Her hands are crossed over her chest as she leans against the doorway.

Maria comes up, “what’s up?” She frowns, looking at Natasha with a questioning look, until she walks into the room. “Oh.”

“This is Kate, Y/N’s girlfriend and vigilante partner.” Natasha state.

“Is it now?” Maria takes a stance similar to Natasha, scaring both of the girls.

Clearing her throat, Kate offers her hand, but she doesn’t take any steps closer, so she is too far away to actually shake their hands. “I’m Kate. Bishop. Kate Bishop. Girlfriend. It’s nice to meet you, Mrs. Romanoff and Mrs. Hill.” She has a toothy smile, way too large to be genuine, though it falls when she realizes she’s still holding her hand up.

Natasha raises her brows at her rambling. “We know who you are, what we don’t know, is why you’re here while Y/N is grounded.”

“We-“

“Downstairs,” Maria interrupts Y/N from saying anything, “both of you.”

The four of them sit around the kitchen table, Kate and Y/N on one side, Natasha and Maria on the other. Kate is sitting unnaturally straight, hoping to show the two women that she is good enough for their daughter.

“So,” Natasha starts, “you two have been dating for a while.”

“And fighting crime.” Maria adds, making the couple shrink in their seats.

“Yeah.” Y/N mumbles. She’s holding onto Kate’s hand tightly, both of them clammy.

“That was totally my fault!” Kate suddenly shouts out, raising her hands, which ends up her banging her knuckles to the edge of the table, “shit, no, no, I don’t normally curse.” Her eyes are wide as she once again goes on a tangent. “I just mean, that, it was my plan to start fighting.”

Frowning, Y/N stops her girlfriend from talking, “no, it was both of our plan. You aren’t taking the blame for this.” She looks at her, her brows scrunched together.

“I don’t want your moms to be mad at you.” Kate whispers, though it’s loud enough for everyone to hear.

“Well, I don’t want them to be mad at you either.” Y/N whisper shouts back.

Natasha and Maria glance at each other, deciding for put an end to this before it goes on for too long, “we aren’t mad at anyone, so please, calm down you two. We just want to talk, set up some ground rules.”

“Like no fighting crime.” They calm down, Y/N more than Kate, as the latter is still incredibly nervous to be in front of the two women. “And no more sneaking in either.” Maria raises her brows as she turns to look at Kate.

“Sorry.” She mumbles, blushing under her gaze.

Natasha leans her elbows against the table. “We’ve been talking with Clint,” Kate perks up at the name of her mentor, “and if you two promise to follow the rules, we’ll start properly training you.”

“Really?” Y/N gasps.

“Yes, but,” Maria continues before the two can get too excited about it, “that means you two will not go out without one of us, the bedroom door stays open, and you’re still grounded.” She looks at Y/N.

“Uhuh, understood, we’ll follow every rule!”

“Every rule!” Kate echoes, quickly nodding, trying to hide her grin.

Maria chuckles while Natasha rolls her eyes with a grin on her face. “Alright.” Natasha stands up. “Go on then, go to Y/N’s room, keep the door open.”

With a giggle, Y/N stands up, takes hold of Kate’s hand, and starts pulling her towards her bedroom. They hug each other tightly once they’re inside, with the door open, and celebrate the potential of becoming real Avengers.

They jump onto the bed. “That didn’t go as badly as I thought.” Y/N smiles, leaning her head on Kate’s shoulder.

“It went well!” Kate wraps her arms around Y/N, pulling her on top with a laugh. “I love your moms.”

Y/N slaps her arm, “don’t love them more than me.” She grins.

“Never.” She kisses her, though it’s messy from all of their giggling.

50 Days of HypnoKink - Day 49: Hypno in Media

My heavens... we made it to the finish line. Tomorrow is the final day.

I wanted to save an obvious one for the end because I do so enjoy MC in fiction so very much. So much, in fact, that I made a Twitter thread with 110 recommendations and never even came close to emptying my resources.

I know so many of these scenes, both that Twitter thread and this page are skimming the surface.

I'll be using some of those recommendations here but let's divide by category:

Film

So let's get the obvious out of the way. You have

Trance

A Danny Boyle thriller with a terrible plot and Rosario Dawson as a hypnotherapist trying to get hidden information from James McAvoy's mind. Silly movie but one that doesn't get brought up a lot. Dawson learned hypnosis to get into the role.

Candyman

Horror movie in which the director literally hypnotized the actress so any time she was being stalked by the titular killer she looked completely entranced. Link above is an interview discussing this.

Hypnotic

HORRIBLE movie on Netflix but Sleepyhead and I have hosted a number of watch parties and let me tell you, this is the PERFECT movie to watch with a bunch of rowdy hypnokinksters. The therapist is unethical to a laughable degree and his office looks like it's inside of the Death Star. He's a living breathing red flag. The movie does have a really hot freeze scene, a good ragdoll and the dollification sequence. It's just enjoyable because it's terrible. Check CWs first though, this movie has a bunch of things that can make it an uncomfortable viewing experience.

The Great Hypnotist

This is a Not For Daja movie. A Chinese movie that doesn't get brought up a lot. Like Trance above it is a thriller with some twists and turns that I don't really want to spoil.

Stir of Echoes

A visualization of a dissociation induction designed to make a person view events on a screen so they are separate from the memory. It's a remarkably well done scene.

Now You See Me 1/2

The hypnosis in these movies is STUPID and I love it. The first movie has a punchline that every time Mark Rufallo's character makes a frustrated comment people who Woody Harrelson has hypnotized will start acting as if they're in an orchestra. Second movie has a twin Woody Harrelson as an evil hypnotist and he uses a pizza box as an evil induction. It's amazing.

Sherlock Holmes Woman in Green

This induction is one of the coolest I've seen in a film and I try my hardest to channel the energy of this when I am doing a relaxation focused scene.

TV

Charlies Angels

This is bar none my favorite hypnosis scene in any fiction. The typewriter induction is amazing, the hypnotist has such a smooth voice, the entranced gazes are lovely. It's just perfect. Heck, the link above is "hypnosis scenes" from the episode and is 26 minutes long. From a single episode of television.

Doctor Who

Sarah Jane gets hypnotized so often that I could make a list purely from her.

Legion

I just wanna link this one as it's one of those scenes that works so much better without context and the aesthetics are incredible. Plus who doesn't like Aubrey Plaza?

Nyx do incredible games which are designed to hypnotize the viewer and their consent practices are wonderful. They recently teamed up with Secret Subject to release a vampire enthrallment game and let me tell you, there is not a single word in that synopsis that doesn't make me happy.

Mind Melting Massaging Machine

The best tool for VR hypnosis. Upload custom files and program spirals, subliminals and chose between static spiral or headtracking. I have had so much fun with this over the years. There's a desktop version too but VR is optimal for this experience.

Spiral Clicker

It's such a simple concept. Click on the character and watch their will go away. Spiral Clicker is backed with a fun little universe, fun characters both original and community sourced, amazing art and a clever little gameplay loop that is quite addictive. Careful, the game features a constant spiral, you may find yourself falling in to trance. Don't worry. The game will wake you up. You can even ask the game to include suggestions for you :)

So...why didn't someone make up holographic disguise glasses for Jon like Kara had? (Source: Supergirl # 8, Rebirth Era)

I mean, it had to be better than the disguise that lasted all of, what, four pages? it went from this:

From a writer's perspective, "faster than a speeding bullet" probably means "faster than a trigger finger." There were several ways that I could think of off the top of my head that "Finn" could have defused the situation.

He could have reacted faster and rushed the shooter at human speed, maybe using super-breath to knock him (and his aim) off-balance.

Does he have super ventriloquism? He could have mimicked the voice of campus security right in the shooter's ear and distracted him.

An invisible burst of heat vision above the sunglasses (why isn't he using heat-resistant lenses? They've come in handy for Clark many times.) is a classic way to get someone to drop a weapon. And yes, heat vision can be invisible until it's intense enough to be visible.

A super-compressed "bullet" of super breath to the shooter's forehead could have the impact of a punch. Done correctly, it's very discreet.

It took me five minutes to come up with four options. Jon can process things much faster than most.

But no, Jon had to go the direct route and shred his chance of having some semblance of "normality" along with his disguise. Why?

Because Tom Taylor said so. Because Jon only moves as fast as he needs to and is only as powerful as he needs to be for the plot to progress. And the effort put into possibly exploring the "Finn Connors" secret identity and conflicts was minimal. It was a throwaway, much like Val-Zod and Red Tornado in this scene of "Adventures of Jon Kent" # 2:

It seems to be a trend: Lead up with something promising or interesting, then reveal that it wasn't necessary or worth putting effort into.

And it's a shame that Finn Connors "died" an early death, the charade revealed before it could have any impact. Because "Finn" would have served an important role in the post-Bendis identity reveal:

Finn Connors could be around ordinary people. He could have been friends with average people with various opinions. It's a valuable experience that his father had.

And before the fans tell me that Jon is in college and is around ordinary people now...go ahead and name one. Name one person that Jon is around now who is not tangentially part of the superhero community.

No, I'm sorry, Jay does not count. Even without the intangibility power, Jay is far from normal. His mother was the President of Gamorra.

Yes, Jon is with people who understand the whole super hero business. Yes, he can commiserate with them. But it's important that he never lose touch with Joe/Jane Average on the street. He must never forget the ordinary people he's sworn to protect. And being around superheroes all the time can make one lose perspective.

(And before anybody says that he learned a lot on Earth 3 like, say, fine control of his powers, keeping a secret identity, etc., that we just don't know it yet--I don't think we ever really will. Nobody is going to fill in those blanks that Bendis so graciously left in his wake.)

So, alas, poor Finn Connors. Tom Taylor never gave us a chance to show the positive effect you might have had as Jon Kent's secret identity. For want of creativity and a special pair of glasses, something that could have been really great was lost.

Why Ted’s “And no sweetie pie” comment throws me off and if it’s meant to be aimed at Will or Mike’s GF that Ted and Karen know nothing about.

So, I know a lot of people’s first thoughts to this scene are “Why would Mike make that face?” If it’s directed at Will. I get you. I see you. Usually when you see a grimace, confusion or annoyance, you’d want it to be about El because ofc we want Byler endgame. 

(edit 3/26/23) Personally, when I see this expression on Mike’s face, I see annoyance that his father is teasing him. Kids hate being teased by their parents. Ted seems to tease Mike a decent amount from what we’ve seen. “Our son with a girl?” or the “If your friend jumped off a cliff, would you?” and other little remarks throughout the seasons that Ted has said about or to Mike. He’s annoyed that his father is teasing him about Will, maybe this is first time Ted has said something along the lines of Mike and Will being “in love” (ofc Ted probably doesn’t actually think this, but parents tease their kids all the time about their friends that they’re close with) OR/AND it could be mike just thinking of having to face el, idk 🤷‍♀️ On my last post, I had a few people in the replies say some retorts which could definitely be some explanations... If we had more evidence to back them up. I understand that my theory is purely a theory as well, but that’s because I also have no hardcore evidence that Ted is referring to Will as Mike’s “sweetie pie” this is just what makes the most sense to me.  So one of the few things people tend to bring up whenever I’ve spoken about this before is that fact that Karen was eavesdropping on Mike and El’s conversation in s3.

Now, this very well could be indication that Karen knows that Mike has a girlfriend, there’s still not enough hard evidence that that is the case. Their conversation doesn’t have enough evidence, for all she knows it could just be one of Mike’s friends. Mike is friends with Max by now, who’s to say he couldn’t have another friend that’s a girl? The only line in their conversation that’s even slightly incriminating is “I can’t see you today” but also who knows how long Karen was listening in? Does Karen know Hopper is taking care of some girl? I thought no one was supposed to know? If anything, I think this could have more to do with Karen as a character in general because she def knows something is up, rather than her knowing Mike is dating a girl.  Another thing about that in general is with Ted’s teasing about Mike, I feel like it would have been the perfect and prime opportunity for Ted to tease Mike about having a girlfriend. That makes such perfect sense for his character and for Mike’s dynamic with his father. But that’s just imo.  Now, the next thing people bring up is that fact that Karen and Ted know about a girl who escaped and was potentially being hidden by Mike in their basement. This is fact, we know this happened. They know about this dangerous girl. But why on Earth would that equate to Ted thinking that Mike is dating this girl years later? And she now lives in California (either close or with the Byers) That’s very odd to me. Either I remember s1 wrong or Ted and Karen magically found out about El from the time skip between s3-s4. Or they know Mike just randomly has a girlfriend in California that they never show us any screen time for us to know that they know.  Lastly, they never show El interacting with Karen or Ted or Nancy or Holly when the pull up into the Wheeler’s driveway. Minus Mike’s shit monologue and then basically not talking to one another (so romantic) If Mike and El were on great terms, wouldn’t this have been a good time to be like “Mom, Dad, I want to introduce you to my girlfriend, El/Jane.” That literally doesn’t happen lmao. Very odd. They don’t even ask who she is.  Overall, this obviously ties back into Ted’s “And no sweetie pie.” comment. With all of this said and done, does it still make sense for Ted’s comment to be aimed at El/Mike’s mysterious girlfriend that we’re never explicitly told that Karen and Ted know about? No. Not really. At least not in my mind. But it sure as hell makes sense for Ted to be teasing Mike and for it to be just another piece of foreshadowing Byler endgame.

I'm also watching The Trainee! (I think that was no surprise - careful, spoilers for ep 10 ahead!)

So, I absolutely HATE Ba-mhee. It was hate at first sight. I just don't like characters like her. Clingy and dictating, not communicating well and just wanting to be in control and then getting pouty when the guy can't read her mind or doesn't listen to her instantly. And that was before she cheated. I absolutely DESPISE cheaters. Like, Force's character in Only Friends? No matter how much I like Force, I hate this character. Top was not my favorite. I was so, so happy Mew made him go through all that shit for so long, because it's what he deserved. I would have made him suffer longer and more (and not take him back, probably, but that's a different story).

So when Ba-mhee cheated on Tae I was hating her already as much as I'd be able to. There are so many should-have's. She could have broken up with Tae. She could have opened her mouth instead of hoping he would see her pout while he worked his ass off for their anniversary. Was he innocent? HELL NO! He really needs to get his shit together and become a better boyfie, too, but nobody deserves to be cheated on because SHE feels insecure about their relationship.

So what does that make me think about today's episode? It was cute how he tried to get her back. It was very, very realistic. Because OF COURSE he would feel her absence once they broke up. And of course she would start to miss mothering him and finally see what he usually did for her (because I'm very sure there were things he did for her - his room was plastered with their pictures as well after all).

Personally, I'd never take either of them back. Going back into a relationship, especially one where someone has cheated, is never a good idea. Exceptions might be out there, but really, usually it just doesn't go well. Just imagine: one missed call and the one who got cheated on is already spinning scenarios in their mind, getting angry, causing fights... So, I would never take Tae/Ba-mhee back. But I'll wait what plays out within the last two episodes.

Story-wise I'm not angry at this turn-around. It was nice to watch them figure it out like adults, the date was cute, it was nice how Tae tried to get her back and will now work harder to keep her (hopefully). The only thing I hate is that they still blame mostly Tae for the break and he is the driving force in them reuniting. Maybe that's payback for doing less the three previous years, who knows, but I just don't think he's that much in the wrong compared to her... So, yeah. I actually liked how Ba-mhee kind of realized she made a mistake and that Judy is not really it for her either. Grass is greener situation played out well. I'll judge their story at the end of ep 12.

Every other character in this story? LOVE them. I love the comedy, I love the development. I just wish we'd have more time for JaneRyan and I even miss Pie terribly in recent episodes. She's there for her friends, but I hope we'll see more of her reaching her dreams and stuff as well? And yes, JaneRyan have too little screen time... I hope they can make it up in Ep 11 and 12, since we're now (hopefully) done with Tae/Bamhee.

HOW CUTE WERE THEY THIS EPISODE THOUGH? Like, why did they print the messages when they could just chat? Because we need everyone to find out! And then Jane coming to Ryan's shop... The picture was so cute. Is there an HD version out there somewhere already that I can put on my computer? Jane looked so happy <3

And talking about Jane: he is the type of "strict-teacher" that usually people hat in school and who I usually loved. You know, those who just have principles and a certain respect for people and their time and expect you to do stuff and get things done. Those teachers. And usually, people don't like them, because they have to earn their respect? That's what Jane is for me. That's why the interns probably didn't like him at first and probably also why viewers all thought he was mean. I just loved him from the first second. Jane is the best, I wish he were my mentor. He's the type to enable people and widen their potential. He motivates them and gives them courage. He's already doing it with Ryan, too. So really, I love characters and people like him. He's an inspiration.

That was a long rant, but I made this tumblr to talk a bit more about the BLs I'm watching so this is me trying to actually talk more about them. 😂 The Trainee really is the series I'm most looking forward to every week. Maybe Kidnap will take the crown next week (because the story looks as if I'd like it...) but to be honest, I really enjoy the unique humor. I'm laughing my ass off every week with the episodes. <3 Can't wait for ep 11!

Introducing my super cool RWBY rewrite that is definitely better than literally anything

Hey guys, this is my RWBY fanfiction universe. All ideas are mine, I just think... I dunno, RWBY kinda sucks so I'm making my own, better version. I'll call it... RWBY: Rescued or some other vaguely pretentious title, idk. Hey, John and Jane RWBYson! Thanks for subscribing to my project! Or anonymously stalking it? It's hard to tell sometimes.

Now I know I already introduced Team RWBY, and everyone loves them, I'm happy! I'm just gonna add a little dude here, no it's fine! He's like a side character, nothing more. Like an ally, Ruby's first friend, he leads the other team, it'll be really cool I promise. His name is Jaune btw, no, NO big deal. Just trust me on this. I'm the superior writer, remember?

Um... sorry guys. Over the weekend I just got a really big spark of inspiration, like... the Muses struck me from the heavens above. So I'm sorry, but... I'm going to make a quarter of the first Volume entirely focused on Jaune, the Volume that is crucially formative to the cast and entire series, which will cause a ripple effect so bad that a consistently large number of fans dislike him in my series 10 years later, but also find it hard to imagine the story without him at this point, like a lukewarm relationship you don't know how to feel about.

But it's fine! The show is still called RWBY and I plan to deliver on that, not like those hacks at Rooster Teeth stepping on Monty's vision. That's the rhetoric I'm supposed to use, right? To make you hate me? To make me into an easy strawman to hate and dismiss? GOT IT, just making sure, lol

I'm going to voice act as him too, btw. No big deal, I'm sure this won't affect my treatment of him whatsoever. Oh, but here's Neptune. He's voiced by the other dude writing this, and we're gonna write a love triangle between the characters we voice and Weiss, one of the main leads. That counts as a character arc for her, right? Right, glad you understand. Oh, Neptune? You actually liked him and wanted him around? What are you, fucking sexist? God. Make sure to tell your friends how cool my story is

Next, I'm going to have Pyrrha's entire screentime devoted around Jaune, and even after she dies, only Jaune is allowed to process his emotions regarding her death while Ren, an Asian dude, and Nora, another girl, prop him up. I'm also going to bring her death up every two years like 2-3 times to really milk that man pain. What does Ruby the main character feel about this? Oh don't worry, she'll talk about it with another character I'll add in. I'll even have her say Keep Moving Forward™ to really sell the audience's Ruby's pain and really stoke and stir your anguish. Her anguish. Moving on.

Eh, something feels off, there's not enough conflict... Let's have Cinder run Weiss through with a spear, for funsies ig, because I have this post-it note on my monitor saying Jaune's Semblance and this is the perfect moment. I'm also gonna give Jaune this whole ass emotional outburst, 1-on-1 fight and confrontation with Cinder since she killed Pyrrha and awakened all his angst.

Ruby? Uh... yeah, she can stand there I guess. I need to remind the goddamn audience that YES, I still remember silver eyes exist, gawd. I have to do it every few Volumes or I can sometimes forget the protagonist in my female-led story exists - man what a pain, I bet I'm gonna be pressured into creating an old lady to teach her or some shit in the Volume right after this one. Whatever, I'll have her disappear in 2 years, they'll never know she left. Anyway OOPS Emerald knocked Ruby out, thank god she's out of the way so I can squeeze in a shot of Cinder stepping on Jaune and really rub that pain in. God, Jaune really needed this, so glad I did that

Fuck it, Jaune kills Penny too. I dunno, it just feels right, y'know? Nah... I don't think Ruby or anyone is the right person for this, and I don't think we've really, one hundred percent explored just how deeply Jaune can angst over dead women; women who could have grown into full, complex people with rich arcs and relationships using all the screentime I parasitically extracted from them via sudden, unwarranted death. Penny, like, she really needs to fuckin' die for this. Her death is worth having to retread this same tired fucking emotional arc if it's for my boy, know what I'm sayin'? Good, glad you understand

Alright, it's the Volume finale. Team RWBY and Neo are falling into the next story arc. Great, people really wanted this - an entire Volume just focused on the title characters together. The fans have been on my ass asking for this since Volume fucking Four. It's alright, I GOT THIS. I FUCKING GOT THIS! It's simple! This is perfect. But... I mean, I shouldn't... but I really... SDGDSGDED FUCK IT, fuck you, Jaune falls in with them too

okay now for a tl question: as someone who also dislikes season three, i'm curious to know how you would have liked season 3 to end? i'm pretty sure you've talked abt it before but i'd love to hear your thoughts.

well, i think there are a lot of things that could've happened....but i'm not entirely sure, as i haven't seen the season since it aired. that means i can't give the biggest in depth answer to it regarding every single tl character, so i'll just give my thoughts on what i think should've happened............................................for beard

first of all, he should've broken up with jane after mom city. i've talked a lot about that, and how i believe that beard's forgiveness of nate should've been shown as a forgiveness of himself as well, and by extension beard finally beginning his journey of self-healing. because, no. forgiving nate didn't Heal beard, not by a long shot, but it helped fix a little bit within himself that would've paved the road to his breaking up with jane. realizing he didn't need to be punished anymore.

so, if there was no jane involved in the finale, there would be no wedding or beard choosing jane over ted.

HOWEVER. i think it would've been amazing to see beard choose richmond anyways.........finally making a choice for himself. he came to richmond in the first place because ted asked him to, and he was willing to leave richmond all because ted asked him to. ignoring the jane of it all, beard choosing to stay in richmond because he wants to....he wants to continue coaching the team, he wants to complete their mission of winning the whole fucking thing, he wants to nurture those relationships he made and be .,,,, well. his own independent person, something we never really saw considering he was either following ted or following jane. never on his own.

regarding the other characters,

JAMES DIDN'T DESERVE TO BE FORGIVEN. i am all for james's recovery arc, showcasing him in rehab and actively trying to get better. but just because a character is in recovery doesn't automatically erase all the harm they've done, nor does it mean their victims need to forgive them for anything. i think jamie should've been shown to grapple with what he wanted to do, forgive him or not, and come to the conclusion that he doesn't need to do anything. he doesn't need to care what james thinks of him anymore, he doesn't deserve to have that weighing on him. i think jamie should've been shown to be ... idk not Happy or Supportive, but be okay with james in recovery, but draw boundaries that he doesn't need to do anything past that. he should've had someone tell him it was his choice, rather than being told to forgive him.

roy should've been in therapy earlier on in the season than last second. i'm glad that roy is seeking help, obviously, but i think it would've bettered his arc if we saw more of it starting like,,,, 3x08 onwards. maybe. idk. again, i haven't seen s3 since it aired.

not sure about rebecca, since i didn't really pay attention to her arc that much in s3 (sorry to all) because i disliked the psychic aspect so much. i like her ending up with the dutch man! wish we got more of them between 3x06 and the finale, but i understand the romcom aspect of reuniting with someone you thought you'd never see again. i don't hate her ending !!!!

ted needed to go back to kansas, sorry. it wasn't dottie "forcing" him to go back, even though i will admit she's a pretty shit parent lmao. but it wasn't like that wasn't the plan from the very start. could it have been handled better? absolutely! should've jason played ted with way more emotion in 3x12? YES. but,,, come on. ted is a father first and foremost. before a coach, friend, romantic interest, etc. he's a father. and that's actually been a really big part of his character, so i never understood when people said that it "came out of nowhere" or it was so "out of character" for him.........to....be with his son? DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE HENRY LASSO HATE. i swear some of y'all forget the message of being curious, not judgemental lmao. ted was always supposed to go back to henry. i don't agree with the idea of uprooting a literal child to a whole other country, though i can picture there being a time where they do move back to richmond together! the door is left open, not closed! i could picture him going there as a teenager and going to school there, but again. he's like.....12 lmao. ted's arc always circled around his son...and he needed to go back.

also keeley just deserved better. i'm perfectly okay with her remaining single at the end of the show, as i do think that that could've helped her heal herself and her relationships with other people and her career. no, giving her a romantic ending wouldn't have impacted her career, but i think i like where she ended up. on her own, with her new friend of barbara and their company, her and rebecca, and even her and roy and jamie!!!!!!! i think there's chances for their to be romance, but like. i think considering how much of keeley's arc has revolved around romance, it's nice that she didn't end up with anyone. idk.

Replaying Nancy Drew without Cheating - Part 11: Secret of the Old Clock

UGHH. I am so torn on how to even discuss this game. Do I absolutely love the 1930s gimmick, to honor the anniversary of the Nancy Drew books? Of course. It is adorable, and it is charming. I recently read the first 4 books of the Nancy Drew series, which was an interesting experience (the narrator never fails to mention how attractive Nancy is, nor how absolutely flawless she is in everything she does), but it does make me appreciate more the fact that HerInteractive decided to make this game. I can now forgive them for creating a hole in the space-time continuum by randomly plopping an 18-year-old Nancy down in 1930 in between two current-day games, which my young mind could neither understand nor accept.

In general, though, this game may be one of my least favorites that I’ve played so far in the Replaying Nancy Drew Without Cheating project. I don’t DISLIKE any Nancy Drew game by any means, but this one had a lot of tedium. I mean a lot. It manages to be an extremely easy game with some of the most frustrating puzzles of any game - I’m thinking mini golf, Jim Archer’s wife’s dress, driving your car and delivering telegrams. By the end, I wasn’t sad for it to be over.

Was I tempted to cheat this game? No, not once. I’m not sure if the games are getting easier as I go on, if my patience is growing in resolve, or if the gameplay is just more linear, or maybe a combination of all three, but it has been a few games since I’ve felt like I needed a hint. This game is perfect if you want to relax, enjoy some bright colors and upbeat vintage music, or think 1930s slang is delightful; ultimately though, it is a bit forgettable. 

Here are some of my thoughts:

1. I'll give props to the opening of the game with this cut-scene. You really dive head-first into small town America, nearly a century ago, complete with a fun narration to really get you in the mood. Who is Emily Crandall? Why DID she invite Nancy out to the Lilac Inn? What IS the Lilac Inn? It gets you brimming with questions, and you’re not even out of the car yet.

2. I know this is low-hanging fruit as far as complaints go, and anyone who has played this game has probably mentioned it at one point or another, but the driving interface is a nightmare. I switched between using my keyboard and using my mouse, but each option was equally torturous. My goal this playthrough was to have to deliver as few telegrams as possible, and I still heard “WELCOME TO ZIPPY’S!!” squawked at me over half a dozen times.

3. I really wish the people of Titusville would stop insulting me by acting like they WOULD give me a tip, with some bullshit excuse as to why they can’t. Everyone in that town can suck it as far as I’m concerned.

4. Speaking of the asshole residents of Titusville, by far one of the most irritating parts of the game is that infinitely long quest you’re sent on just to get that stupid trivet (ultimately ended up being necessary, but Christ bro, the fact that I needed to bring 5 toys to Mrs. O’Shea, FREE OF CHARGE, just to get raffle tickets that were already owed to Miss Jakowski, AND THEN MRS. O’SHEA HAD THE GALL TO TELL ME SHE DIDN’T EVEN HAVE THE TICKETS AND I HAD TO GO PICK THEM UP MYSELF??? My blood was BOILIN).

5. Is this the one and only game with TWO culprits? And are these the two most loathesome culprits in the entire world? In all honesty, I hate Jane mostly because she is absolutely hideous. Her weaponized incompetence grinds my gears, and yes, the fact that she is putting a vulnerable, recently orphaned minor through hell in the hopes of a profit is certainly morally evil, but it’s mostly that face and horrible, bottle-dyed hairstyle (did they have bottle dye in the 1930s?). Richard Topham is just a loon with the stiffest, most awkward posture I’ve ever seen. I can’t stand conversing with either of them.

My god, just look at that face.

6. This is a weird period for the ND characters. I feel like the devs were trying something out here? They are so blurry, their movements so unnatural. I think Her is on the prescipice of improved animation, but they aren’t quite there yet.

7. Puzzles I enjoyed: Bard’s Bounce (taken from some of the earlier games, and I enjoy it every time). The pies (love a good logic puzzle, and those things looked delicious). Using the HAM radio to talk to Josiah’s old radio friends (Josiah seemed like an interesting guy, so I actually enjoyed this aspect of the story-telling).

Puzzles I did not enjoy: Mini-golf (I saw recently somewhere that you should save between each hole you get par on, so that if you fail the next hole you can just open your old save. This is absolutely genius and would have saved me so much heartache. Why is this game so hard? Why is “I hit it too hard” the only thing Nancy knows how to say in this entire segment?). Sewing the dress (this is, first of all, not how sewing works at all). Topham’s idiotic guess-the-card challenge (did I mention how much of an idiot this guy is?).

8. The number of times I had to watch some of these cut-scenes, like the golf ball on the train or the shed’s attic opening up, was excessive. I appreciate the animations, but don’t make me watch it 10 times in a row.

9. I found it absolutely hilarious that at the end of the game, when you’re chasing Jane around town, if you lose her or fail to cut her off at the state line, the newspapers somehow make it your fault. Not hers for committing fraud, or for grand theft, but yours, a random teenager, for not driving like enough of a maniac as you for some reason take law enforcement into your own hands.

I wish I had more positive things to say about this game. It's a nice change of pace, coming on the heels of Curse of Blackmoor Manor. It’s fun. It’s cute. It just isn’t my favorite. Curse of Blackmoor is probably my all-time favorite, and Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon is up there too, so CLK is a bit of a bump in the road for me.

What do you think about the book Aks and Vks(that is if you read the books)

Do you believe that descendants could have been a animated series from the start with ALL descendants kids and not just Mal

Who do you think got the worst treatment in the descendants fandom? AK version: Ben, Audrey, Lonnie or Chad?(or all 4)

I've read some of each book so I can answer briefly but I haven't ever sat down and read them all cover to cover back to back so excuse me if I left some things out.

1.) Pre-descendants (blank on which one was the prequel I think it was Isle of the lost not 100% though) Audrey was more naïve, honestly don't think I would've cared for her character if they kept her similar to female movie version Ben. I would've felt bad for her but I actually like movie Audrey more. A lot of fanfiction Audrey matches book Audrey's personality instead of Movie Audrey. I like that Audrey has a rougher personality, similar to the vks I relate Mal's d2 whole I'm not good enough and Evie's One kiss "maybe I'm just too bad" to her movie character because Audrey was selfish but she wasn't supposed to be she's a princess and I would've like to see how she struggled with that. In the books it's more or less non existent.

As for Ben I like him a lot more in the movies than in the books, I'm 50/50 on his book character. I think he's an ass, in the prequel it's implied that one of the only reasons he specifically picks Mal to come off the Isle because he has dreams about her (aka romantically interested) making it seem like he doesn't actually care for the Isle kids he just wanted to get himself a girl off of there. He's rude to Audrey, He basically implies that because he's becoming King his life is much harder than her fairy tale life and he thinks it's boring. He acknowledges that he doesn't even like her but continues to go out of these nicely planned dates with her. They make it seem like he's so tired and bored of everything in his life and that he's really only actively participating in friendships and relationships because he doesn't have anything else to do and takes the chance of bringing VKs into it to spice it up. They also instead of making it solely Mal's decision try to imply that Ben agreed with this decision instead of being pressured into it. Other than that he does seem like good o'l Ben there are sad moments were his insecurities of not being a good King are showed that I appreciated.

As for VKs

The Demon is worse than ever still the same terrible person that she is, except it's even worse now that I read her thoughts from the book.

Evie was shady sometimes but more or less the same character. They did give Carlos and Jay more lines and depth but I just feel like their characters book or movie version were never fully fleshed out. They have small characteristics that shows you hey it's this character talking but other times it's like you could switch the dialogue and say it's Jay talking here instead of Carlos and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Uma is very close to her movie adaptation in my opinion, probably because she was only a movie character at first so the writer didn't have to struggle with giving a character a personally than having to change it when the movie decides to change it.

2.) If you mean make it so all the characters got equal screen time if it was a series than yeah I do. I know we all hate how it became the Mal show but I honestly struggle to see how they would flesh out each character in the last two movies anyway which is why you, myself and a lot of other people think it should've been a series so that all characters could've have an arc. Maybe then it wouldn't be "Mal and anybody she likes=right and anybody else= wrong"

3.) Worst treatment hands down Ben and Audrey but in general I think the fans are too hard on all the AKS especially the boy ones. Jane was forgiven, Lonnie is just there, there's nothing really to hate besides her hypocrisy. But Doug is shitted on because he was an insecure teenage boy who as a form of comedy relief calmy asked if Evie was seeing someone else and then tried to list his good points so that if Evie was seeing someone else she'd pick him over them. Chad is...a chad I do think it's unfair how the fandom hates him for using Evie but completely ignores the fact that she was doing the same thing. She didn't care about him and he didn't care about her why should one be hated over the other. Movie Chad really wasn't as much of a playboy as they tried to make him (I don't like Chad) but the only girl we see him show real interest in is Audrey. Everybody knows I don't think he was wrong for what he said at family day either it's just a strong bias against AKs.

Ben gets shitted on to lift up Mal like the series doesnt even jump start because of him. She gets credited for a lot of things he's done or should have been in charge of but gets shitted on for all the bad stuff that is never really his fault. Mal tries to spell him he rightfully gets angry and somehow he's pushing on being an abusive boyfriend??? If it's not from Mal fans it's unfortunately from Audrey fans blaming him for the Did I mention scene when he was clearly drugged. There's way more but let's cut it short.

Nothing Audrey can do is right in this fandom, when she didn't get herself involved with the Vks and didn't blindly trust them She's a mean girl she's a bully. When she snaps after having her life turned upside down, being betrayed and dropped by everyone she knows including adults and her family and is left lonely and isolated while being forced to watch the girl who's family now has a pattern of fucking hers over, she's over dramatic and doing too much over a high school break up and should be punished. Meanwhile most likely their favorite characters have either a similar personality to Audrey's or have done actions similar to hers that have gone unpunished (Looking at all the C4)
