Hi, I’m Emma, honours student at the University of Manitoba, and principal researcher of the “Mind wandering, inattention, and attentional control” study, which aims to investigate the cognitive mechanisms underlying mind wandering and its relation to Adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
We are currently seeking volunteers to participate in our online study. This study is intended for any adults, regardless of whether you have been diagnosed with, or suspect you have, ADHD.
In our study, you will complete a sustained attention task known as a go/no-go task. Periodically, the task will pause, and you will be asked to report on your thoughts and experiences just prior to the prompt. Following the sustained attention task you will complete brief questionnaires about your personality, prior experiences, and demographics.
The study will take approximately 30 minutes. You can complete the study anytime online at:
https://attentionandlearninglab.com/2023/HE2022-0321-COM/
This research has been approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Manitoba, Fort Garry campus, and is being completed under the supervision of Dr. Nicholaus Brosowsky.
Your participation is extremely important for the study, which we thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Emma Fernando

I hate the term 'careless mistake' when related to ADHD because a lack of due care usually isn't the cause.
Usually it's automated processes such as information processing, working memory, or attention regulation that leads to the mistake
If you're looking for ways to prevent 'careless mistakes,' please start by acknowledging you do, in fact, care.
Then let's find the root of the problem and address that. For example, you can set up the information in a way that's easier for you to process (eg. visual vs written)
Changing the way that you have the information is presented, such as going through the first time using words then the second time as visuals is particularly helpful.
Reducing compound items (where three steps are written as one single step) can help too.
Also, everyone normalizes to information, steps, or lists over time, so it is not abnormal, wrong, or bad to have someone else check if you missed something obvious.
If you don't have someone to check, put it down and check it later, especially after a mood shift or a cognitively different task. This can help you to focus on different details.
Combining this with changing the way the information is presented is particularly helpful, imo

can someone please take me back to the time when it was easier to be the gifted child without effort? the time when i made insignificant mistakes on papers that didn't tank my entire result, just took me away from first place? when i wasn't so overwhelmed by the amount of focusing everything requires now? when i wasn't throwing up from the anxiety of having a mechanics paper the next day that i know every concept on, but make random calculation errors on anyway because focusing is just that much harder? when i wasn't coping with shit in such unacceptable and illogical ways?

10 suggestions for ADHD treatment – Transform Your Life with These Powerful Tips!
Tumblr media
Behavioral therapy: Behavioral therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), can help individuals with ADHD develop organization skills, time management, and strategies to cope with symptoms.
Medications: Stimulant medications, such as methylphenidate or amphetamines, may be prescribed to help control ADHD symptoms. They can improve attention, reduce hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Proper medical prescription and monitoring are essential.
Educational support: Ensuring an appropriate learning environment for individuals with ADHD is important. This may include classroom adaptations, individualized support, the use of alternative teaching strategies, and frequent communication with teachers.
Social skills training: Learning social skills can help individuals with ADHD improve interpersonal relationships, communication, and social interaction. This can be achieved through group training or individual therapy.
Physical exercise: Regular physical exercise can help reduce hyperactivity, improve mood, and increase the ability to concentrate. Activities such as walking, swimming, dancing, or sports, in general, are beneficial.
Balanced nutrition: While there is no specific diet to treat ADHD, maintaining a healthy and balanced diet can help improve brain function. Include foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (such as fish, nuts, and seeds) and avoid excessive sugar and artificial additives.
Stress management techniques: Learning stress management techniques such as meditation, yoga, deep breathing, or progressive muscle relaxation can help reduce anxiety and promote mental calmness.
Occupational therapy: Occupational therapy can help develop organization skills, planning, and fine motor coordination. It may involve practical activities and specific exercises to improve day-to-day functionality.
Acupuncture: Some studies suggest that acupuncture may be a complementary option in ADHD treatment. The stimulation of specific points on the body with fine needles can help balance energy and improve symptoms.
Psychosocial support: Emotional support and education for family members and friends of individuals with ADHD are crucial. Support groups, family counseling, or therapy can help cope with daily challenges and strengthen understanding of the disorder.
Please note that these suggestions are only options that can be considered in ADHD treatment. Consultation and monitoring by specialized professionals are essential for an individualized and effective treatment plan.

Agreed 100%. People don't read the information, no matter how big letter you use and how much you shove it in their faces. Then they complain "they didn't know." They also don't listen. A friend (!!!) , responding to my "I told you this 2 times already": " You don't expect me to retain all the information about people I don't know, do you?". Yes, yes I do. If this information is so unnecessary to you, why do you ask again?
one thing working in museum taught me is that you can have as many signs & as many explanations as you so wish people still will not read. "it's not clear at all on your website!!!" it sooo so is i promise my colleague was even kind enough to color-code the tabs & add a little image that shows what "group" means. my sister in the allmother's wide arms you might just be dumbfuck stupid. and mean and entitled as well. at your big age.

It’s important to note that bad attention is different than ADHD, which is part of the pushback. We’ve heard these ableist moral panics before. Having a large addiction screen at your finger tips is different than spending an hour watching TV. But even if this won’t benefit your attention span, you’ll still benefit from not having the addiction screen in your pocket.

You know what's fun?
They seem to have made Percy more on the inattentive end of ADHD than hyperactive. Aside from the capture the flag scene, we mostly just see him zoning out, 'daydreaming', the line "I don't think it's the marshmallow's fault I never pay attention".
ADHD barely gets good representation as it is, but I don't think I've ever seen the inattentive type in media like this before. This is going to be huge for a lot of people who don't fall under the hyperactive stereotype umbrella.
I'm just really excited that more people will get the chance to see themselves.
