10 Ways to Romanticize Your Life & Be More Present

Wake up a little earlier. It doesn’t have to be 5 AM (unless that’s your thing). Even an hour earlier can give you quiet time to get things done without distractions.

Take an "everything shower." These are pretty meditative for me in a way. I like to imagine the water washing off all my stress and stagnant energy I may have accumulated throughout the day. Like a reset button!

Make a breakfast you’d actually get out of bed early for. Pancakes? Fruit? Whatever makes your inner child happy.

Play jazz or soft instrumentals while doing everyday activities. Instant cozy vibes.

Read outside. Sitting on your porch or even by a window gives you that vitamin D and a fresh perspective.

Find a screen-less hobby you enjoy. Try crochet, painting, poetry, LEGO kits, pottery, etc. Block-building kits are my fave—they’re so fun and satisfying. Just remember to take breaks and stretch!

Re-watch something comforting or start something new. That show you keep skipping past might become your next obsession.

Connect. If you’ve been stuck in your room all day, talk to someone. Call a friend, hug your pet, or chat with family. A quick convo with my mom always boosts my mood!

Learn something new! When was the last time you went out of your way to explore something you didn’t already know? (and nope, school doesn’t count.) Take a moment to find a subject you’ve never looked into or dive deeper into one you already know a little about. Pick up on a new language, study an unfamiliar culture, or even try learning a random skill just for fun. Expanding your mind keeps life feeling fresh and exciting.

Travel (if you can). I can't stress this one enough!! Even just getting out of town for a single 24 hours can give you a whole new perspective. A change of scenery does wonders, especially when life feels repetitive. It doesn't have to be far, either. You can travel to the next city over and explore what it's like there!

Remember: Social media is NOT real life. That influencer who’s always partying in Miami with a closet full of designer bags? You’re seeing their highlight reel, not the full picture. Some even goes as far as faking luxury lifestyles for the views. Don’t compare your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s curated feed. At the end of the day, it's all for the aesthetics/entertainment.

Yeah actually. I've gotten one or two asks wondering why I have some level of sympathy for terfs, and why I greet ex-terfs with open arms into my space I've set up.

For one, as the post says, terfs' hatred usually stems from some form of trauma or negative experience with men or trans people. I came across a tiktok a while ago of a young girl sharing her shitty experience with her trans mother, who utilized her being trans to manipulate the girl in the tiktok.* The girl in the tiktok was replying to a bunch of comments, and even made a separate video explaining that she doesn't have any hatred for trans people, she just didn't like her mother. There was, however, an obvious red flag, which was her continuing to misgender her mother. (It wasn't just referring to her with they/them or "parent", it was straight-up using he/him and calling her "dad") This is where a good amount of terfs start out. It starts with misgendering one trans person who wronged them as a way to cope, and then it pipelines into hatred for all trans people. Whenever I come across these posts, I usually comment something like "I'm so sorry this happened to you and you had a bad experience with a trans person. What they did was unacceptable, and I hope you are able to heal. The majority of us aren't like this, so I hope you only have good experiences with us from now on."

It does feel a bit dehumanizing to have to convince someone that we're not bad people, but unfortunately, bigots tend to only listen when you treat them with kindness. (Not true 100% of the time of course, but it's a big enough number).

I do believe that the mother was actually trans, but she just happened to be a bad person who used her identity for evil. I agree with OP that this bill is most likely never gonna pass. I want to elaborate as to why I think that's the case.

Lee reintroduced a more realistic bill this year requiring porn sites to verify users’ ages. (x) He wouldn't have passed this one at the same time unless he knew this had a zero percent likelihood of becoming reality. He's essentially proposing something outrageous to make his real goal—the porn age restriction bill—seem "moderate" and "reasonable" in comparison. There is a lot pointing to that being the only point of this bill, because:

Congress cannot overrule the Miller Test (which defines obscenity), a Supreme Court judgement, without a two-thirds majority in both chambers, plus ratification by three-fourths of the states, which the GOP does not have.

They would also need to make an amendment to the constitution for this to pass, as this bill would violate the Bill of Rights. Trump is such a polarizing figure both in the general public and in the US government itself with a declining approval rating that there’s absolutely no way he can actually pull of a Constitutional amendment of any kind, let alone one that would infringe on so many rights.

Criminalizing all visual media that has spicy content, including mainstream media, GIFs and memes, would be a legal landmine, and would be a giant headache to enforce.

Lee tried to pass this same exact bill twice before, and they never even reached the voting stage both times.

George W Bush also tried to pass very similar laws that would redefine obscenity and severally restrict adult content during his day, too. Despite having the courts and both chambers in his lap like Trump now, he still wasn't able to pass them. Surprise, Surprise. Those bills just stalled in the courts and were struck down for violating the first amendment. The odds were arguably even more in W Bush's favour than Trump or Lee's now. W Bush also had an Attorney General who was such a repressed nutcase that he ordered the Statue of Justice veiled, because he didn't want to see nipples. He also had an extremely high approval rating during his first term due to the aftermath of 9/11. Trump lacks both of those things. If they couldn't pass these laws then when the odds were even more in their favour, what makes them think they would be able to now?

This very bill has 3% likelihood of ever happening according to GovTrack. (x)

Lee knows this, which reinforces the theory he's only using this as a tool to pass the age restriction one.

Even if the total porn ban bill wasn’t so unconstitutional, it's highly possible it would die by default when the congressional session ends—which has happened before with bipartisan bills like KOSA. We're nearly halfway through the first year of the session. This has only just been introduced days ago. For something this to pass, it would require lightning fast bipartisan support. Unlike the TikTok ban, all Democrats and moderate Republicans would be instantly against it, due it being so extreme and vague that mainstream shows like Game of Thrones and Bridgerton would be banned according to it, making it lack any support to fasttrack it. The Democrats will just filibuster this to death if it ever reached that point.

Having said that, this is still highly concerning, and both of these are something worth keeping an eye on, even if I wouldn't lose sleep over the extreme one happening for now. Like OP said, this shifts the "window" further to the right, and is testing the waters about how far they can go with censorship, especially with passing laws that target queer media and online adult content. Plus, that porn age restriction bill is far more likely to pass. While the porn age restriction bill won't affect AO3 due to it targeting only commercial adult websites, it, along with similar future bills, can still scare platforms into over-compliance to avoid lawsuits, resulting in shadow censorship or self-censorship, which defeats the purpose of AO3. These bills make it more likely that other countries will try to pass similar, albeit less extreme ones of their own. For example, my country, Canada, introduced a similar porn age restriction bill as Lee's more realistic one. (x) The Liberals are the government in power here. If that sorta shit gets proposed in countries with a government in power that's more left leaning than the Democrats in the US, I can't imagine the shit that would pop up in ones with right or especially far right governments in charge.

If you're one of those folks that think AO3 should ban certain types of spicy fic, you fell straight into the GOP's trap. Any level of censorship is bad. Remember—whenever the GOP says that want to ban porn, they actually mean banning any media depictions they don't like, and they despise your very existence, especially if you are trans or nonbinary.

Lanterns game night and they decide to play ludo at some point. Guy, Kyle, Hal and John are playing while Jess records them for a tiktok video.

Guy is this close to flipping the board because Kyle keeps capturing his pieces, sending them back to the home base even if he acts like he feels sorry about it so Guy just yells at him angrily. John is steadily and quietly moving his pawns to their destinations meanwhile Hal is suffering even more than Guy because he hasn't even been able to start the game this whole time!! I was thinking of writing a detailed post on why Severus Snape shouldn't be dark-skinned, and your post perfectly conveys my feelings that I have practically nothing to add. This one factor changes his entire story. And it irritates me how some fans (NOT ALL, IT'S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THIS) easily put up with this and accept such changes, as if they immediately forgot the whole essence of this character. They try to find an excuse for this, any passages from the text where there will be a tiny hint that Snape in the "theory" can be dark-skinned. They are not angry at the scriptwriters and directors who just want to ruin Snape's story, but accept it as a given. It is hypocritical to say that "appearance is not the main thing in this character, but his story is the main thing." Hell, his story is based on his appearance, this is a key factor in his personality. Only now his story will be turned into fan fiction to please the new image. This will not intersect with the original in any way. As a creative person, I understand all these things with headcanons based on existing characters. But we are talking about a series that must follow the BOOK canon, as assured by the creators themselves. And in the end, we get a liquid fart in the face, where the scriptwriters did not even read the original source until recently. And you correctly noted the fear that the new image of Snape will strengthen, and we, as old fans, will be belittled for the fact that we will portray him in a canonical form. I can already see people who are ready to call those who disagree a racist for choosing Esiedu for this role. And the series has not even started yet, what will happen when it comes out? All fans of the old Snape will become racists. All those tons of art, fan fiction, merch, everything will simply be devalued and replaced by a new one. This is not The Little Mermaid, which has only one film and which peacefully coexists with the old cartoon and equally shares merch and fan art. Harry Potter is a huge franchise, the series of which will be filmed for more than one year, if it does not die in the bud, of course. The new series will dictate new images that will live in the media for more than one year. And fans should understand this now. If they love Severus Snape, then they need to defend his canonical image, and not accept what is imposed. Regarding Paapa Esiedu, he is also not an innocent lamb and there is no need to romanticize him as an unfortunate person. He knew where he was going, and defending him is stupid. He does not give a damn about history, the main thing is to earn fame (dubious fame) and money. Yes, this is his job, but he knew what kind of role it was and that none of Snape's fans would pat him on the head. Even if the casting was blind, where he did not know his future role, he could have refused it after they were going to approve him for it. He did not do this, because money is money, and no one was going to think about whether the fans liked this arrangement from the beginning, neither Paapa nor the one who conducted the casting. HBO clearly sees that the fans are unhappy. If this were not so, they would not close the comments under their posts. There would not be such a noise. After all, there are many dissatisfied. I went to Instagram and Twitter, almost every post with unclosed comments is filled with demands to replace the actor. YouTube is also full of videos about this. TikTok is filled with videos ridiculing this absurdity. If they have already allowed this in the casting for one of the important roles, then it is unknown what else they will change. I will hope that we as fans will reach out to them, although this hope is minimal. Because if they leave everything as is now, don't expect a canonical adaptation. For them, canon doesn't exist, only the thirst for profit exists.

I was worried about "Severus Snape as he was" being replaced as soon as the reboot was announced. Not only is it happening, people, including so-called Snape fans, are happy about it and want you to be as well.

People have been telling me not to worry this whole time but the show hasn't even finalized the cast yet and already people are JUMPING at the chance to change canon, fanart, their headcannons, and more because of one actor.

As I thought, no one truly cared for the greasy, poor Half-Blood, his story or what it had to say.

But he's "just fictional", right?

Mark my words, they'll retwist his character into something unrecognizable from the original. As of last week, they've created a new character. This reboot is supposed to last 10 something years. Original Snape fans, when you get shit for liking anything resembling pre-2025 Snape, don't say I didn't warn you.

Snape was perfect to me. I didn't see any reason to change his story or likeness, which yes, is very very VERY important to his character. Just because you could swap it out for other ""undesirable"" (the actor is a conventionally attractive man, just black) features, doesn't mean that that actually fits his current story. They will have to alter his motivation, mannerisms, and backstory for this. More. All for one actor.

They did not think this casting choice through by the way, if you think they care about Snape's character or representation at all. It's painfully obvious someone unfamiliar with the plot as a whole but also unfamiliar with Snape made this choice. They chose the actor and will twist the story to fit him. Not the other way around, where the story made sense in some parts, and then they made the decision to cast an actor of non-English or non-Irish decent. There are different ethnicities that could have fit this (personally, if I had to, I would have gone with someone of Rroma descent, not hard to find in England) regardless, it would have made sense that he would be visibly mixed race.

I pointed this out back in December but many parts of Snape's backstory being stolen taken and attributed to a black man, now living in England in the 60s/70s, makes the story take on a racist undertone. Many Snape fans could point out what his backstory originally intended to highlight in terms of discrimination, especially in terms of classism. But HBO took a look at a young, poor, abused child who fell into the wrong crowd, joined a cult (or gang, if you will), who then reformed but ultimately had students and peers alike distrust him because of his looks and past... and thought "Yep, let's cast a black man in this."

Right.

Not to mention one of the books is called "Half-Blood Prince"? Where is the half? If he isn't mixed at all, are we going to hear about the pureblood Prince family of African descent living in England for hundreds of years? Slavery? His pureblood classmates immediately target him despite knowing his family's history. Hello?

Let's be honest, we all know this was a poorly thought out attempt at getting more people interested in the show by using diversity and controversy. What about Hermione? If she's not cast with a black actor either, honestly this just doubly confirms my point about Snape. Not to mention, the potential for casting colorism if she ends up being light-skinned and mixed but the Half-Blood Prince is not. Hell, Harry and James should be South Asian just going off what's popular.

This is just as bad as J.K. Rowling's Twitter stints where she'd just make up stuff on the spot because she could. In fact, it's exactly like that. They're throwing BIPOC fans, not bones, but scraps desperately hoping a couple thousand more people will flock to the show BECAUSE of the political controversy it will create.

As for long, die-hard Snape fans, they could care less. Even though he is pointedly one of the characters in the history of ever with the biggest, most rabid fanbases-- to the point where we have a famous religion and/or cult. I've been asked if I was a Snape Wife. The girl reading this, I'm sure you have, too.

This will change how you're allowed to interact with Snape in the fandom. Even if the reboot gets canceled early or if it's largely ignored by fans, some people won't allow you to acknowledge the original Snape. Because "his appearance doesn't matter", you'll have to recognize him as Paapa. His "status doesn't matter", so you'll have to recognize him as Paapa. "Snape doesn't matter."

Snape, in all honesty, in terms of characterization is one of the most thought out characters in Young Adult fiction I've ever read. There is not one word on a page that isn't meaningful in some way. It's not wrong or bad to acknowledge that. It's also not wrong or bad to like his old appearance.

Snape fans, please know that we don't have to take this lying down. Speak out about it on social media, contact HBO, or sign a petition. Anything. But, please, don't stay silent.

Ah, yes. Snape the person who got lost his best (white, childhood, a girl) friend by saying "mudblood" while being sexually assaulted, joined a "Nazi wizard cult", and later on shows personal growth by telling the portrait of Phineas to not say "mudblood" and dying for someone else's son. Will Petunia get hate for immediately distrusting him? Will James and Sirius? Doesn't matter because they (Marauder's Era) were RIGHT to immidiately distrust the *checks notes* only black man in their private school in the middle of bumfuck England. Snape supposedly didn't wash his hair, had bad teeth and an ugly nose, and was hated in school because he involved himself with dangerous dark magic. One of those being a "shanking spell" (my joke here) he created. Hell, he's constantly emasculated by the characters and story. Not to mention, Snape's parents, an abusive alcoholic and a (also ugly) neglectful witch, will now be portrayed by black people. Yay! Diversity win! It's not like those were issues among families and young men that were being highlighted in English society, either. Clearly all inherently black traits. Yep. I'm glad this is what our community is seen as.

Whether you want to argue that being ethnically English is important to Snape's character or not-- I'm sure they thought this change through very well. Just trust me bro, his original story doesn't matter, accept this.

Ultimately I KNOWWW being born in 1997 means I'm not really a 90s kid, I didn't grow up in it, but I STILL do remember the turn of the century (however very very vaguely it is) and thus. People born in 2000 and later will always feel young to me. So I will continuously be surprised when I hear that someone I know was born in 2000 or later. Such is my affliction.

Endeavor from BNHA is a prime example of how fandom trying to shield characters from (rightful) hate will only generate more hate toward the said characters.

Because I binge-watched the show before stepping foot in the fandom and even though I began this show hating Endeavor, he was actually starting to grow on me since his plot-line was one of the most interesting parts of the show and at certain points I even thought his “awkward dad” moments were kinda endearing? Then I looked around and saw an army of people who are so damn eager to swiftly forgive Endeavor for everything wrong he has ever done and shield him from any type of criticism, which includes shifting all the blame to his own wife & children and suddenly what little affection I had for this character is gone and now I’m back to hating him again.

Like you do realize that this is a grown middle aged man who has been emotionally and physically abusing his wife (who’s really more of a stay-at-home surrogate) and children for 25 years straight and has only turned a new leaf in-universe for only half a year max? It doesn’t matter how much you like his character, LET PEOPLE GO OFF ON HIM IF THEY WANT TO!!! You trying so hard to victimize him or to victim-blame his family for all his abuse will just make people hate him even more.

I want to buy a sticker from your shop, but shipping (to Canada) is down as $22 before tax. May I ask why it costs so much to ship a single sticker? Is it Etsy being weird, or does it really cost that much to send an envelope over the border?

I'm not trying to be snarky or passive aggressive or anything, I'm genuinely just kind of befuddled atm.

A fair question honestly! USPS sets the rates for international shipping, and shipping to canada really is about that expensive 😭 I considered sending stickers via envelopes, but 1. if I send them with a stamp (less than $2) they don't have tracking, and etsy Does Not Like That. I gotta send packages with shipping to qualify for star seller, plus it covers your ass in case USPS loses it. and 2. apparently it's illegal to send merchandise internationally in envelopes!! so sadly we're all stuck dealing with the super crazy international rates. I don't like it either because as someone who deals in trinkets, people generally do not want to pay $16 for a charm that costs $12, and they especially don't want to pay that for a sticker that costs $4... I would ABSOLUTELY have way more international sales if USPS wasn't fucking us with the prices but it's out of my control dssdjkfjksdf

I give this advice a lot, but if you don't want to pay international shipping (or just live in a country I don't ship to myself), you can borrow the address of a friend that lives in the states and they can forward it to you! I don't actually know if this is cheaper, but some people have said it is. it's def cheaper for stickers though if your friend uses a stamp!
