He silently gnaws at the lollipop in his mouth as he stares at Vein from upside down. For someone lounging in the maw of a beast, he always looks more relaxed here than he does in the studio, drunk or not. “Umm. Democracy?”

Vein barks out a laugh that comes out sharper and more genuine than he expects. Oh, sweet, naive Xia Fei. Kid’s smarter than he lets on, but not always when it comes to Vein. Then again, it’s partially this that makes him all so amusing. Vein bares his teeth into a large grin, tongue and incisors and all, and relishes in how Xia Fei stops chewing on the candy after a straight half hour to gawk. “With my teeth, sunshine.”

That must be part of why he turns the key in the lock of the door and slips in, right as the sun sets, and it's like he's tumbled into a picture from the past. Nothing much has changed — Xia Fei's invaded Vein's place plenty of times and then been left to his own devices — the silence is the same. But knowing it's not, not truthfully, is a steady, painful revelation.

In search of clues and comfort, a grieving, sleep deprived Xia Fei breaks into Vein's penthouse.

notes: xia fei crash out fic! the grief and the vivacity of the emotions described here, the use of language to paint a picture of xia fei’s grief. just. yeah. I do need to comment on this one soon actually lol but this is a very melancholy and lovely read I enjoyed it sm.

notes: link click isn’t a fandom I feel compelled to read aus for very often but this particular take on neo aurora makes me so !!! it takes skill to transfer a character so defined by the various atrocities in his life to an entirely different and more fortunate setting, and still make him sound exactly like he does. I’m also just really fond of the study on artistic limitations and liberties.

There’s an altercation, violent and brawling, that breaks out over a game once. It ends with Vein kicking in someone’s face, brutal, blood splattered across his shoe and over the carpet. A gunshot, loud despite the silencer, and a skull cracked open by it. Something wicked and sharp fits over the shape of his mouth, something longing for brutality at ease with itself under his skin.

Liu Min and Liu Xiao are, he assumes, too accustomed to more polite kinds of violence to expect it.

Liu Min watches, leans forward slightly with interest, enraptured. Liu Xiao’s face shows something midway through the action, and it’s gone by the next time Vein looks.

Or: the first time Vein meets Liu Xiao, he's eighteen and Liu Xiao comes with his brother attached.

notes: the one time I feel anything like soft and fond when it comes to veinxiao I think. a compelling what-if that genuinely picks apart what they’d be like if they’d met earlier okay and maybe I’m biased because I was the wall they bounced ideas off of and feels so true to their characters. vein….his pov can be so so terrifyingly difficult to nail down and this does it well!

notes: okay this fic just. makes me so so fond. shiguang are so defined by their love and care for each other that seeing all the different ways they fell for each other albeit the time frames matched up slightly wrong in the most wonderfully bittersweet way — just. makes sad cat noises.

notes: one of the first fics I’ve ever read and genuinely one of my absolute absolute favorites to this day. the warmth and care and the easy trust between them is so aptly captured in just four thousand words and then some change, and the general feeling of it is just…so very fond and warm forever. it’s like watching canon shiguang interact in written form.

notes: so so so lovely and all-consuming in the way lu guang’s emotions towards cheng xiaoshi tend to be. the dialogue had me giggling and making noises like I’m petting a cat alternately. it so clearly shows the depth of their love for each other alongside lu guang’s desperation and insistence on saving cheng xiaoshi no matter what.

HELP ME. throwing a pair i have menacing thoughts only about,,,, anyways yay let me give a stab at this . once again i yap a lot im sorry sksksk. platonic fake dating ask game

1. vein + liu xiao

okay so we discussed this in dms earlier but to me this would be funniest fakedating dynamic in link click if only because (1) it works so well (2) xia fei is frothing at the mouth furiously. does he know this is fake dating. yes. (i have not worked out how he knows.) but does he Like seeing liu xiao with his laoban. nope absolutely not.

like we talked about its absolutely related to one of liu xiao's morally questionable criminal sidequests. i imagine that they get along great on the surface and vein is highly enjoying himself and liu xiao, while externally playing it cool, is internally hoping this is over with soon (person who's aroace and horrible at it. how does one date. why is this so stupid and complicated. why do i have to hold his hand for so long sex is easier than this ew. <- does not realize anything from these thoughts at all).

vein is pretty easy with...not exactly overt displays of affection, but grabbing liu xiao's hand, tugging him to sit closer, etc. i also think liu xiao should put his arm around vein's waist when xia fei is watching for the bit. they speak to each other like they normally do. the thing is when you're loner with no friends loser extraordinaire and you suddenly start hanging out with a hot older man—people take notice. which is exactly what they're both aiming for.

it ends when liu xiao finally gets at what he's been aiming to accomplish and i think vein should be funny and kick someone's skull in before liu xiao can shoot them and grin all feral like, you're welcome sweetheart <3 and liu xiao just smiles and is internally grateful it's over. (he does not think this in these words. it's all variables and possibilities in that stupid hatmangenderfuckthing's head.) life carries on as normal and xia fei is the only one who never recovers from the emotional damage.

i also think xia fei and liu xiao's little car meetings are weirdly tense for a while and neither of them say anything to each other, exactly, but there is definitely a meaner edge to xia fei's words and liu xiao just thinks he's amusing. you know. consequences wip car meeting if liu xiao wasn't brainbroken.

2. ayatsuji + dazai

HELLO IVE BEEN ROTATING WBMB FIC FOR THEM NOTHING ELSE THIS IS UTTER NONSENSE BUT okay i think they would be awful at fakedating. not in a conventional sense, no.

i have thought about how they'd do this for hours but the best i could come up with is. okay casefic style. in some universe the two genius detectives are on some case together and [x] situation happens and for [y] reasons they are forced to pretend they're dating. and then have to keep up the bit. probably because of infiltration reasons, etc.

now you see the thing is i fully believe dazai would hate ayatsuji's ass. this is because dazai shies away from any and all forms of vulnerability and his whimsical energy has nothing against ayatsuji's willingness to weaponize anything and everything about himself to make people uncomfortable paired with that famous sarcasm of his. he would poke at dazai and dazai would bite back and ayatsuji just smirks because it does nothing. perhaps some of it does but he doesn't let it show.

(importantly kyougoku is standing there laughing at ayatsuji because genuinely even amid this chaos ayatsuji is Not happy that he's fakedating dazai fucking osamu of all people.)

(tsujimura is feeling odd about this. mostly she's surprised dazai and ayatsuji are managing to fool anyone at all. but she feels very strange about it indeed.)

mostly i imagine them to be attending events or checking out sites together and forcing themselves to remain normal. they exchange barbs under their breath (<- this sounds like skk what the fuck but i promise it's different) and smiling innocently at each other and layering on the petnames (chuuya cringes every time he hears about this. kunikida is planning murder methods because they're So bad at this.) and they manage to make a good run of the detective-ing and bring in good results but they get caught multiple times.

now, unlike veinxiao, they hardly ever touch unless forced to i believe. i can fully imagine dazai tugging ayatsuji closer by the wrist and draping himself over ayatsuji all sweet and gooey. it's a horrible time and anyone who knows them and is forced to witness this feels no pity for either of them at all.

how does this end? as soon as the case is over ayatsuji is out of there. booked it. gone. good-bye. dazai flippantly answers questions and makes fun of ayatsuji whenever anyone asks but for the most part he is not willing to think about that ever again. cue kyougoku laughing.

3. ayatsuji + ango

ayatsuji is a menace part two. moving on—

okay but i do think this would be significantly less a disaster than anything else. it would look horrible though because ango is a wet rat who doesn't know how to show affection and ayatsuji is allergic to sincerity. they could pull off the quiet bantering partners vibe though i think.

it's like—the image of them sitting somewhere doing, i don't know, work, and ayatsuji quipping at ango. ango sighing and accepting that he's stuck with this menace for the time being. this is further made funnier by the fact that ayatsuji still has no clue that ango is a wet rat of a man with a betrayal activation key for demisexuality.

beyond that, though, i think they are so lost. ango knows what to do theoretically, but executing it is. a task. ayatsuji struggles to meet him halfway in the middle because he's one of only people in the world who actually respects ango, but it doesn't go so well because (1) his execution isn't horrible, it comes off as flirtatious in the Wrong way (2) not only is ango horrible at execution he's horrible at receiving it, too. i do think if he were for real dating someone it would be better if only because his awkwardness would be genuine, but here it's just. So strange. not exactly a trainwreck but oh god painful to watch.

when it ends they both acknowledge that they're good at working together and they never address this shitshow ever again. importantly kyougoku is also laughing at ayatsuji for how Bad he is at this. wow did any of this make sense i had an image and vibes

4. sigma + nikolai

sigma and nikolai join hands in wanting to kill themselves for very different reasons. nikolai for his issues sigma for agreeing to this idiocy at all.

i can't imagine how or why they end up dating but i do know that nikolai leans all the way into it. he'll come up with nicknames for sigma and be so affectionate and part of it is endearing but sigma is so freaked by this regardless of context because it's nikolai. i think they would go on conventional dates to cafes and feeding ducks or something and nikolai would be affectionate and lovely the entire time in his very nikolaiesque way that is offputting and vaguely unsettling. i don't think he's toning anything down to be honest.

on sigma's end—they're regretting everything. they try their best to play along and grits their teeth through every response they give and want to kill themself every time nikolai takes their hand and breaks into a run, or something. they do not enjoy this. they might have enjoyed it marginally more if nikolai didn't give them a headache within five seconds every time they meet. regardless they are trying because they agreed to it, so there's no point in half-assing it.

to outsiders it looks....either deranged or cute. old ladies think its adorable mostly. if anyone's truly paying attention to what they're saying they might be a little bit concerned. the two of them sound like they're arguing.

genuinely it looks like valleykey's fic a break in plans:

when it is all over i don't think anyone truly catches on because nikolai never actually stops bothering sigma at any time he feels like doing so and sigma never manages to successfully kick him out. picture casino manager sigma swirling about doing their duties while a man dressed very strangely bothers them speaking at hyperspeeds and the manager's eye twitches but is so used to it doesn't do much more than tell him to shut up or go away or both, preferably. amazing am i right.

anyhow this was fucking hilarious to do LMAO the dynamics you threw at me are so similar rip but i think my favorite is sigma and nikolai. you're tempting to write a fic for real for real. thank you for the ask platonic fake dating for the win.
