we got another two years prob till link click season 3 so i'm gon talk about everything i love about this series thanks
human trafficking rep. holy shit. a more realistic approach to the mental trauma involved for all parties.
the VAs slapped, regardless of what sub/dub you pick, they all slayed
suicide awareness. so many shows shy away from this when trauma/etc are very real and suicide is often faced as an option. link click takes this and goes "hell no. live. FUXKING LIVE NO MATTER WHAT" and it's 11/10. you're loved. please. stay.
the bonds. not a lot of fiction anymore just shows GENUINE relationships. it's either abusive shit or fluffy shit -- neither are 'good' or realistic. but link click comes along and has functioning adult relationships that Still have issues and problems and arguments and disagreements bUT love is still present in those relationships bc they're healthy
it's also a reminder that genuine love / relationships aren't based on what you can give, etc. (as adults i think we forget this often and we feel we have to deserve a relationship; link click says f this)
a big theme of the story is making mistakes!!!!! so many fictional stories either 1) take the 'aw i messed up again:(' approach or 'my mc can do NOTHING incorrect or wrong ever' and they suck, lol. link click is a great balance of yes, we messed up, but we move forward.
link click also is a solid example of "yeah, sometimes life is shit! you try your best! it doesn't always matter!!!" but not in a "so d/e" way but in a "even so, still try, still love, because knowing you can't control shouldn't instill fear but bravery"
LING IS A POSITIVE FEMALE CHARACTER THAT DOESNT CONSTANTLY HAVE TO SHIT ON MEN TO BE IN THE STORY --
death and grief handled in a realistic way tbh
the occasional laugh and smile and just the humor is pure
the tension and intrigue is the best written and portrayed i've seen and i'll die on this hill sorry
the concept of time travel is popular, but i haven't found anything to tackle the emotional / MORAL consequences like link click has. "SHOULD you change the past? IS IT OK to change the past?" we've all seen "oh no we changed the past we must fix it!!!" but I've never seen "the past, the present, and the future are heartbreaking and gut-wrenching and stunning and precious and beautiful as they are" but HUMAN NATURE remains and our desires continue to be to remove the heartbreak and pain. is that morally wrong or not?
ANYWAY this will prob be part 1 of more but please lmk what you think lol

i've been toying with this idea for a while now, but the weekly release of s3 has been giving me motivation to post more Link Click stuff!!!
so, Lu Guang's ability allows him to look into the 12 hours following the aftermath of a picture- right? sooo hypothetically, if someone knew about this ability- they could set a trap not a 'trap' trap, obviously, but like- they could hurt him with it yk? it'll make more sense in fic form
kinda hand-wavey when it comes to timeline placement, but let's just say it's before Lu gets stabbed :3
"So..."
"...yeah."
"How weird."
Three pairs of eyes stare at the little envelope left on the counter.
"Neither of you left it here? Cheng Xiaoshi?" Qiao Ling asks- rather accuses her brother, while Lu Guang reaches for the package.
"Wh-!? I was out with you all day! When would I have even- Guangguang's the one who's been here!"
The accused in question tunes out the bickering siblings to pry open the glue seal. This argument was nothing new, after all, not this lifetime and not this week. It was kind of comforting, like a white noise machine.
What was new, was this package.. that only held a single photo. And no return address, or name attached... It wasn't even a particularly remarkable photo, just- a room. An empty, rusted room.
"Don't accuse Lu Guang! He's much more responsible than you-"
"Well how else could it have gotten there!?"
The pale haired boy wracked his mind for any ounce of familiarity, but... nothing. He can't recall having ever seen this place, or any timeline where this thing was dropped off. It didn't make any sense.
"LU GUANG!" the siblings shout at him, each slamming their dominant hand onto the counter. The photo slips from his fingers as he jumps.
...maybe he tuned them out a bit too much.
Cheng Xiaoshi catches it to take a look for himself, appearing equally as puzzled.
"Sorry, Qiao Ling-ji," Lu Guang ducks his head, "I stepped out for a second to check the darkroom. I didn't see who left it."
And wasn't that disconcerting. Someone had managed to sneak in and out of the studio without ever alerting the ever vigilant time-traveler. It left a weird itch under his ribs.
Were they in danger again? So soon? They hadn't even met the twins yet... had this timeline changed too drastically to be saved?
Apparently, his discomfort showed on his face too- his spiraling sanity as red threads frayed around him- because the next thing he knew he had his roommate nudging his side and offering the photo back.
"Guangguang? We're not actually upset, you know.."
"Uh... right." he didn't think they were, but he'll take the escape. And distraction.
"Yeah! Mistakes happen," Qiao Ling chirps, reaching up to ruffle his hair, "No harm, no foul, Lu Guang. We'll check the tapes."
The time-traveler can't help the rosy blush that colors his cheeks under the siblings' onslaught of affection and attention. Affection and attention that he didn't deserve for lying to them for so long. But.. he was greedy. Greedy for their friendship and so, so terribly afraid of what he would become without it.
"Oh, so the landlady gets to touch your hair without permission but when I do it-" annnd then Cheng Xiaoshi was ruffling his hair too, saving him from his head again in a far more chaotic fashion than his sister [yet he was no less gentle], "you get all complain-y!"
"Idiot, you're still hung up on that? It was years ago-"
"Hardly!"
Qiao Ling giggles at their antics and takes her leave- presumably to go check the tapes like she said. The two watch her go from their peripherals.
And then get to work.
Lu Guang raises the photo, trying to ignore the fuzzy feeling that spreads in his chest when Cheng Xiaoshi adjusts to block him from the view of any onlookers. They didn't need words at this point.
He could feel his friend's eyes on the side of his face, as if drawn to the blue light for some inexplicable reason. It was fine, he could dissect that feeling later. Or never, preferably never.
Right now, he had to figure out why this picture appeared.
Nothing happened at first. The photo was taken of and empty room, and the man who took it sat in a chair just behind the camera. It almost seemed like a prank. One hour passed, then two, three... four.. six.. nine.
Lu Guang was prepared for his time- his limited, precious time- to be utterly wasted. For Cheng Xiaoshi to be laughing at him when he resurfaced, and for that tight ball of anxiety in his chest to loosen somewhat when-
"How long are you going to hide in the past?"
His heart drops to his stomach, the empty space it left behind squeezing like a vacuum.
"Do you truly think you can save them?"
The man stands up, still facing the same half of that empty room.
"Do you think you deserve to, Lu Guang?"
"How do you.."
In all these timelines, all these threads he ties and breaks and travels and resets, he's never- no one has ever- Whoever sent this knows about him and his powers. Knows about the timelines.
Lu Guang runs through potential names.
Qian Jin? The twins? Vein? Liu Xiao? Liu Min-
"Don't bother guessing. I doubt you'd get it, even with all the time in the world."
"...what?"
He couldn't tell if the man was responding to his thoughts or words or just- knew him and was covering each base.
"See, people like you are interesting. People who think they're above the rules are interesting.."
A pale, crooked hand runs over grimy bricks. The hour creeps past eleven.
"You were raised better than that."
Everything happens at once.
The man turns around, revealing a mirror barely a foot away. Lu Guang doesn't get a chance to make out more than burning amber eyes before the room goes up in light.
| + + + |
Cheng Xiaoshi's knuckles are white on the counter.
He doesn't want to mess up Lu Guang's focus, or accidentally hurt him by pulling him prematurely out of the photo but.. he looked so scared.
It wasn't an emotion he was used to- or liked- seeing on his friend at all. If Lu Guang was scared, then what- the dark haired boy shook his head. If Lu Guang was scared, then... Cheng Xiaoshi would just have to be strong enough for both of them.
He could do that- he could totally do that! After everything Lu Guang helped him with in the past, Cheng Xiaoshi would offer his own hand tenfold.
"How do you..." his friend muttered, voice weak and fragile and quiet.
"Guangguang?"
As far as he's known, Lu Guang had never talked when inside a photo before. After and before, sure, but... never during. He itched to reach out, to brush that soft white hair off his friend's suddenly clammy brow.
Lu Guang's slender fingers trembled.
"...what?"
....he shouldn't. He really shouldn't. But Lu Guang's never acted this way before! Not when he was awake. Maybe he wouldn't even notice-
No. No no no, he shouldn't risk it.
Cheng Xiaoshi would just- take him out for milk tea after this. Yeah.
A few more minutes pass, filled only by soft breaths and the tap-tap-tap-tap of Xiaoshi's finger on the counter. Lu wouldn't notice.
Would he?
No..
The photo falls from Lu Guang's hands at the same Cheng Xiaoshi lunges for him.
Barely, just barely does he manage to tuck his hand between the shelves and the soft white hair of his best friend- seconds before collision and so, so worth his undoubtedly bruised knuckles.
"Lu Guang? LU GUANG!"
The sound his friend looses is primal- hurts his chest in a way he didn't know possible- and his hands, slender and crooked in the knuckle, clutch at his face with such ferocity that his nails almost break skin. Cheng Xiaoshi guides him to the floor as gently as he can as the pale haired boy's knees give.
"It's okay," he whispers, looking around for something- anything- that could help, "It's okay.."
"I can't-" Lu Guang gasps, his chest heaving and his eyes still blue, "I can't see- I.. I can't-"
"Okay.. okay.. it's okay."
He feels like a broken record, but he doesn't know what else to say when Lu Guang is in so much obvious pain. God, could he even hear him? Who would- how-?
Cheng Xiaoshi bats his friend's hands away from his face and quickly covers his eyes for him, not wanting to add scratches to Lu's discomfort.
"Just breathe, Lu, I'm right here.. I'm right here." he says, tucking the pale haired boy against his chest until he was sure he could hear the thump of his heart, "Just focus on me, okay?"
That always seemed to calm Lu Guang down, at least.
"What did you see? Lu Guang, what did you see?"
"I don't- I don't know- there was.. there was a room.. and a man- and- and then light. He knew-"
He wish he hadn't asked. he hadn't heard Lu Guang this panicked and raw in a while. He was in pain. And Xiaoshi couldn't do anything about it.
"Okay.. it's okay," Cheng Xiaoshi digs around in his pocket, keeping his friend bracketed by his legs, "Lu Guang-"
Okay, okay, deep breaths. You can't help him if you're panicking too. Deep breaths. Don't tell you don't know what to do...
He tucks himself around his best friend, as if he could hold Lu Guang together with his body alone and rescue him from this awful, awful pain he was in. They never should've opened that envelope.
Eventually, Qiao Ling wanders back in, and she looks far more troubled than when she left. To be fair, so do her boys.
From there, it's a blur.
Lu Guang gets checked into a hospital, the sibling's lie to the police, Xiaoshi gets grilled by his sister on why they had to lie to the police, and everything spirals out of control.
Or, at least- that's what it feels like.
"Cheng Xiaoshi," Qiao Ling speaks up, from where the two are hovering anxiously outside of Lu's room. And wow, does this feel achingly familiar.. in a way he can't quite put his finger on..
She's biting on her thumbnail.
"The person who left that envelope on the counter... "
Cheng Xiaoshi looks at her, fist clenching in his pocket in preperation to swing at whoever dared-
"It looked like Lu Guang."
"...what?"

Link Click Headcanons { Dates }
Tumblr media
●Lu Guang●
° He'd definitely be the guy to want more casual types of dates with you. Not dressing fancy is more his style of life and mind.
° Top 3 ideal dates would be: Visiting an art museum, picnic, and cafe.
° Gifting you a small souvenir from every date to make them all memorable and different, wishing for you to look back and smile every time.
° A tiny smile on his face throughout the WHOLE date, even with more casual settings, he enjoyed every minute spent with his lover.
° Once he follows you home, there would be soft jokes and laughs. Sad about the departing, but you giving him a peck on the lips or cheek before he leaves, gets this man a little flusterd.
●Cheng Xiaoshi●
° Goes out and beyond to give you the best dates he can imagine, mostly romantic, like romantic dinner date is one of his go-to.
° Top 3 for him in dates would have to be: Romantic dinners, Stargazing, and arcades
° He adores to give you flowers, a small plushie, chocolates, or just some candy when he picks you up for the dates. Often, keeping them secret until you get to the location.
° Will initiate physical contact the whole time like simple brushes of shoulder, hand holding, or playfully nudging with his elbow at corny jokes even if it him who made it.
° If you think you're allowed to depart from the date before giving him a proper kiss on the lips, you're wrong. Kissing you gives me a new sense of comfort, so he'll hold it for a few seconds before heading home again.
•••
Hope you all enjoyed it!!♡

we didn’t meet so i could lose it
Tumblr media
Qiao Ling slaps Lu Guang, hard across the face. The sound echoes through the studio, Lu Guang’s head snapped to a side, fair skin blooming with red.
“You idiot,” she whispers, eyes hot with tears.
Hiding this from Qiao Ling was never going to go well.

One of the reasons I signed up for the SGDLR mini big bang event was because I heard there would be a theme, one of which was 'fairytales'. That didn't end up panning out for everyone, but I was lucky enough to be paired with Kuya who gladly took my original idea and developed it into a full blown fic with me!
You can read "The Trio, the Twins, and the Lone Warlock" over on AO3, something that I implore you do! Please!!

Thanatophobia
I completed my new fic, which is a 24K oneshot! I worked on this for months. I haven't written a LC fic in a while, the last one being in November, so I'm really excited to share it! Press on the title if you're interested, and as always, thank you!
(also, the main reason for the fic's Mature rating is because there is self-harm, which may not be suitable for all audiences.)
Summary:
thanatophobia (n): an intense fear of losing someone you love, usually by death.
“Hey, Cheng Xiaoshi…” “Yeah?” “Can you… talk?” “Huh?” “Talk.” I know that this is a selfish request, but for once… I’m willing to be selfish. “Just… talk for me. Just this once.” Talk. I want your voice to drown out the endless horrifying thoughts of your death in my head. Please. Just this once.
or: Lu Guang's first dive back in time, and the events that unfold with it.

People... What if?!! What if...??
I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one to come up with this, but anyway....
What if Cheng Xiaoshi's death occurs due to him trying to prevent Lu Guang's death?!
Inspired by this sentence right here from this marvellous fanfic...
Tumblr media
What if in the og timeline, Lu Guang is the one that dies, but Cheng Xiaoshi changed that by replacing it by his own?
And Lu Guang is trying to avoid both death? (yes, exactly like that one meme I don't have the picture of)
Or come back at his death to be the one meant to happen and not cxs's?! (that would explain why he was so 'let me die, it has to happen, move on, I don't wanna be burden' when he was stabbed at s2ep1)
Or maybe they're both changing timelines respectively yo save the other??? As that one hc I read a time ago...
So many options, so many questions!!! I NEED SEASON 3 NOW!!

Link Click fanfiction:
Lu Guang has a nightmare, so naturally the only smart thing to do is to kick the bed, right?
Cheng Xiaoshi woke up from a nightmare and didn’t immediately fall off the bed. That was a bad sign.
He held his breath and listened carefully for the telltale signs that Lu Guang was having a nightmare.
Sure enough, there was quick breathing and muffled crying coming from the bunk above Cheng Xiaoshi.
Now, when Cheng Xiaoshi was having a nightmare, Lu Guang would stare at him because he ‘didn’t know what to do.’ Cheng Xiaoshi understood, but it was creepy. He also had no way of getting up high enough without alerting Lu Guang to his presence.
So Cheng Xiaoshi did what he always did when Lu Guang had a nightmare.
He kicked the underside of the bunk as hard as he could.
He heard Lu Guang sit upright instantly with a cut off yelp.
“Cheng Xiaoshi!” He hissed furiously, leaning over the side of the bunk, parts of his hair falling in front of his face. They looked damp with sweat. “What have I said about kicking the bed, idiot?”
Cheng Xiaoshi leaned out as well to gaze back up at Lu Guang. “Oh, I’m sorry, I must have missed that day in class.” He smiled broadly, knowing that the nightmare couldn’t be that bad because Lu Guang had immediately called him an idiot.
The slightly murderous intent behind Lu Guang’s eyes softened. “Well you’re here now, so no kicking the bed while I’m sleeping.”
He sighed loudly. “Lu Gua-ang, I’m simply kicking the night demons out of your bed.” He fixed Lu Guang with his best impression of a kitten’s eyes. “I meant well.”
Lu Guang’s face suddenly froze. It was a few moments before he spoke.
“I know. But mean well in a different way, please.”
“If you insist,” Cheng Xiaoshi said, knowing full well that he would forget about this by the next day.
So basically this is too short to put on my ao3 account (right now), so Tumblr is the perfect spot for it!

ShiGuang Fic inspired by Mirrorless by Anonymous on AO3 (in my pinned post):
(my first fic so im kinda nervous, please be nice!)
Title: You’re The Thoughts That Can’t Be Tamed
Warnings/Tags to Heed!!! MAJOR SPOILERS! Death/s, Su¡cide/s, Nightmares, Hurt/Comfort, Crying, Breakdown (?), Happy/Hopeful Ending.
Summary: Lu Guang has a nightmare & Cheng Xiaoshi comforts him.
Lu Guang’s POV:
The air in the studio is thick with the dust motes dancing in the last rays of the setting sun. It paints the worn cushions of the couch a muted gold. He should get up. Should probably at least turn on a light. But… no. Can’t. Everything feels too heavy. Every muscle, every thought. Days blurring together, the endless stream of faces in the photos, Cheng Xiaoshi’s constant chaotic energy, the weight of each jump, each mission, each potential disaster—it all just… sits.
Cheng Xiaoshi’s been reckless lately. Taking bigger risks. Always pushing, always trying to save everyone. And Lu Guang? He’s supposed to be the anchor. The calm, steady voice. But the voices… they get louder, too. The what-ifs. The could-have-beens. They gnaw.
God, I’m tired. Bone-deep, soul-weary tired.
His eyes sting. He needs just a few minutes. A few minutes to just… be. To not be calculating trajectories, assessing risks, watching. Just… nothing. The pattern of the couch is surprisingly rough against his cheek. Almost grounding. His breathing evens out. The studio fades.
Then… nothingness.
Then him.
He’s laughing. That bright, unrestrained laugh that crinkles the corners of his eyes, the one that always manages to pull a reluctant smile from Lu Guang. But the laugh is… distorted. Echoing in a vast, empty space. He’s standing on a rooftop. The wind whips his hair around his face, obscuring his features, but Lu Guang knows it’s him. He would know Cheng Xiaoshi anywhere, in any form. But Cheng Xiaoshi has always been drawn to heights. To the edge.
Stupid, Lu Guang thinks, despite the worry gnawing at him.
“Cheng Xiaoshi!” he tries to yell, but his voice is swallowed by the wind.
He can’t move. Rooted to the spot. Panic claws at his throat now.
Cheng Xiaoshi’s looking down, not at the city sprawling beneath him, but at something else. Something Lu Guang can’t see. Cheng Xiaoshi’s smile widens, a manic, terrifying grin.
Then he steps forward.
NO!
Lu Guang lunges, but his limbs are lead. He screams, but no sound escapes.
Cheng Xiaoshi falls.
The image shatters.
Now they are in that alley. The one from… from that case with the missing girl. The rain is coming down in sheets, blurring everything, turning the grime into a slick, oily mess. He’s there, on the ground. Not laughing. Not smiling. Just… still.
A pool of crimson blossoms around him, staining the grey concrete. Someone is standing over him. A dark figure, face obscured by shadow. A glint of metal.
“No! Stop!”
But it’s too late—always too late. The figure raises the metal.
Again, Lu Guang’s paralyzed. Helpless. Always helpless, always useless.
The metal plunges.
Darkness.
Then the train station. Crowded. Bustling. A sea of faces. He’s weaving through the throng, oblivious, humming some tuneless melody. His headphones are on, blocking out the world. Lu Guang tries to reach him, but there are too many people. Hands brush against Lu Guang, faces blur, a cacophony of voices rises to a deafening roar.
Cheng Xiaoshi is pushed onto the tracks by the growing crowd. Distracted. Unaware.
The train hurtles towards him, a roaring metal beast. The ground vibrates. The air crackles with electricity.
“Look out!”
He doesn’t hear the shout.
The impact. A sickening crunch.
The image dissolves into a miasma of blood and shattered metal.
Each death is different. Each one more brutal than the last. Drowning in a river, crushed beneath rubble, consumed by fire. Each one is a nightmare painted in vivid, horrifying detail.
And in each one, Lu Guang is powerless to stop it. Useless, he thinks bitterly.
Cheng Xiaoshi’s always just out of reach. Always smiling before he’s falling, or bleeding, or just gone. But the last one, the last one is by far the worst.
They are in the studio. It’s quiet. Peaceful. The setting sun casts long shadows across the floor. Cheng Xiaoshi is sitting across from Lu Guang, his eyes bright, full of life. He’s talking, animated as always, gesturing wildly with his hands. Lu Guang can’t hear what he’s saying. The words are muffled, distorted. But Lu Guang doesn’t need to hear them. He knows them by heart. Cheng Xiaoshi’s hopes, his dreams, his endless optimism.
Cheng Xiaoshi reaches across the space between them, takes Lu Guang’s hand.
His touch is warm, familiar. Comforting.
For a moment, Lu Guang almost believes it’s real. Almost forgets the endless cycle of death and despair.
Then Cheng Xiaoshi’s hand starts to crumble.
Turning to ash.
The flesh melts away, revealing bone. The light in his eyes flickers, then dies. He’s looking at Lu Guang. Pleading. That face, so full of life, so infuriatingly Cheng Xiaoshi, contorted in pain, etched with fear. It's wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
“Lu Guang…” he whispers, his voice a ragged rasp, “Help them…”
Help who? Himself? Her? The endless parade of faces flashing before his eyes, each one a life he couldn’t save, a tragedy he was forced to witness. But it’s always him. Always Cheng Xiaoshi in the middle of it all, reckless and headstrong, throwing himself into the fire.
His body disintegrates before Lu Guang’s very eyes. Turning to dust, scattering in the wind. Leaving nothing behind. No vibrant color, no infuriatingly loud laughter, no warmth. Just… gone. He tries to reach out, to grab Cheng Xiaoshi, to hold him, but his hands pass right through. Lu Guang screams, but the sound is trapped in his throat, a silent, agonizing plea lost in the void.
Just emptiness. A hollow ache in his chest, a gaping wound where Cheng Xiaoshi used to be. The world is muted, colorless, meaningless without him. No witty comebacks, no shared meals, no bickering over silly topics, no comfortable silences filling the studio as they worked. Just… nothing.
Lu Guang wakes with a gasp, his heart hammering against his ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the silence. Sweat clings to his skin, cold and clammy, like an infected wound left untreated. The surface of the couch is still rough against his cheek, the familiar discomfort oddly grounding. The studio is dark, the only light filtering in from the streetlights outside, casting long, distorted shadows that dance on the walls. Someone is shaking Lu Guang’s shoulder, a voice filled with concern trying to break through the ringing in his ears.
“Lu Guang? Hey, Lu Guang, wake up. You okay?”
It's him. It's really him—Cheng Xiaoshi. The voice, the touch, the familiar scent of cheap instant noodles and that cologne he pretends he doesn’t like but secretly does. It is Cheng Xiaoshi.
Relief floods through Lu Guang, so potent it almost knocks him back under. It tastes like air after being underwater for too long, like sunlight after a lifetime in darkness. He drags himself up, blinking against the dim light, trying to focus, to convince himself that Cheng Xiaoshi actually is here, solid, and real, and unmistakably alive.
He’s kneeling beside the couch, his brow furrowed with worry, his hand still resting tentatively on Lu Guang’s shoulder. He’s so close. Too close, maybe. Cheng Xiaoshi doesn’t deserve this, him seeing Lu Guang like this.
“A-Guang, you were crying in your sleep. Bad dream?”
Crying? He hadn’t even realized. The dream had been so vivid, so real, the fear still clings to him, a suffocating weight. He can’t speak, can’t find the words to explain the terror that still grips him. He just stares at Cheng Xiaoshi, drinking him in, desperately trying to reassure himself that it was just a dream. A horrible, twisted nightmare.
Lu Guang doesn’t think, doesn’t plan. He just reacts.
He lunges forward, throwing his arms around Cheng Xiaoshi, burying his face in his shoulder. He clings to him as if he’s a lifeline, the only thing anchoring him to reality. Lu Guang hugs him tightly, desperately, needing to feel his warmth, his solidity, the reassuring presence of him. His stature is large under Lu Guang’s trembling arms, but solid. Real. Alive.
“Whoa, Lu Guang! What’s wrong?” Cheng Xiaoshi stumbles back slightly, caught off guard by the sudden embrace. He can feel the tension in Lu Guang’s body, the frantic grip of his fingers. Cheng Xiaoshi doesn’t push him away, though, he merely tightens his own arms around Lu Guang in return.
And Lu Guang doesn’t answer. He can’t.
The words are caught in his throat, choked by the lingering fear and the overwhelming relief. He just holds on tighter, burying his face deeper into Cheng Xiaoshi’s shoulder, inhaling the familiar scent of him, letting it fill his lungs, chasing away the memory of dust and emptiness. Cold and slippery like the blood he still feels on his fingers.
Lu Guang can feel his heart beating beneath his ear, a steady, reassuring rhythm.
Thump-thump. Thump-thump.
Alive. Cheng Xiaoshi’s alive. Lu Guang lets the sound wash over him, a soothing balm to his frayed nerves.
Cheng Xiaoshi doesn’t say anything, doesn’t ask any more questions. He just holds Lu Guang. He lets him cling, lets him burrow, lets him soak his shirt with tears Lu Guang didn’t even know he was shedding. He just remains there, a quiet, unwavering presence, a safe harbor in the storm raging inside Lu Guang.
And that’s when Lu Guang finally breaks.
The dam bursts, and the tears flow freely, hot and silent. He sobs, wracking sobs that shake his entire body. He tries to stifle them, tries to regain control, but it’s of no use. The fear, the relief, the overwhelming need for Cheng Xiaoshi, all pour out in a torrent of emotion he can no longer contain. He cries for the nightmares, for the faces he couldn’t save, for the constant fear that gnaws at the edges of his mind. He cries for all the times he pushed Cheng Xiaoshi away, all the times Lu Guang pretended he didn’t care, all the times he was too afraid to admit how much Cheng Xiaoshi means to him.
Lu Guang cries for Cheng Xiaoshi, for the reckless, infuriating, wonderful human being who somehow managed to worm his way into his cold, guarded heart. He feels Cheng Xiaoshi shift slightly, adjusting his grip, pulling him even closer. He can feel Cheng Xiaoshi’s heart beating even faster now, in response to his distress.
“Hey, hey, it’s okay,” Cheng Xiaoshi whispers, his voice soft and soothing, “Whatever it was, it’s over now. I’m here.”
Lu Guang doesn’t believe him—cannot bring himself to.
He knows the danger, the stakes. He knows that one day, he might not be able to save Cheng Xiaoshi. But for now, in this moment, he lets himself believe it, if only briefly. He lets himself cling to the hope that maybe, just maybe, Lu Guang can keep Cheng Xiaoshi safe.
He stays like that for a long time, clinging to his anchor, lost in his own tears and fears. Cheng Xiaoshi doesn’t move, doesn’t say anything more after the few words. He just holds Lu Guang, a silent anchor in the storm. He lets him listen to his heartbeat, lets him feel his warmth, lets him know, without words, that he’s not alone. Eventually, the sobs subside, replaced by quiet sniffles. Lu Guang’s trembling starts to ease, and the suffocating weight on his chest begins to lift. He pulls back slightly, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand.
He avoids Cheng Xiaoshi’s gaze, ashamed of his vulnerability, afraid of what he might see in the other’s eyes.
Pity? Disgust? Amusement? Lu Guang wouldn’t blame him for any of it.
But when he finally dares to look up, all Lu Guang sees is concern.
(And something else, something deeper, something he can’t quite name. Something he’s too afraid to name, lest he makes it real.)
“Better?” Cheng Xiaoshi asks softly, his voice laced with worry.
Lu Guang nods, unable to speak. He still feels raw, exposed, but he also feels weirdly lighter. As if he’s released something he’s been holding onto for too long.
Cheng Xiaoshi reaches out, gently brushing a stray strand of silvery hair from his face. His touch is light, hesitant, but it sends a shiver down Lu Guang’s spine.
“Want to talk about it?” he asks, auburn eyes searching misty grey.
Lu Guang hesitates. Part of him wants to tell Cheng Xiaoshi everything, to pour out all his fears and anxieties. But another part of him is terrified of burdening him, of scaring him away.
Finally, Lu Guang shakes his head, “No. It’s… not something I’m ready to talk about.”
Cheng Xiaoshi doesn’t push him. He just nods, respecting Lu Guang’s boundaries. Cheng Xiaoshi knows him well enough to know when to push and when to back off. He stands up, pulling Lu Guang up with him.
“Come on. Let’s get you some water.”
Lu Guang lets Cheng Xiaoshi lead him to the kitchenette, the familiar routine a welcome distraction. He watches as the ravenhead fills a glass with water, his movements efficient and familiar. He hands Lu Guang the glass, Cheng Xiaoshi’s fingers brushing against his. He looks at Lu Guang, his eyes still filled with concern.
Lu Guang feels those eyes like a warm hearth on a cold day.
Thank you, he wants to say. Thank you for being here. Thank you for not judging me.
Thank you for just being you.
But the words still won’t come. So, Lu Guang just nods, takes a sip of water, and lets the silence fill the space between them. A comfortable silence this time. A silence filled with unspoken emotions. Lu Guang knows that things will never be quite the same after this—after everything he’s done. He’s shown Cheng Xiaoshi a part of himself he usually keeps hidden, a vulnerability he usually guards fiercely.
But maybe, just maybe, that’s not such a bad thing. Maybe it’s time to let Cheng Xiaoshi in. Maybe it’s time to stop being so afraid. Maybe one day, Lu Guang might actually believe these words.
Lu Guang looks at him again, really looks at Cheng Xiaoshi.
And this time, he sees something new in those bright, knowing eyes. He sees acceptance. He sees understanding. And he sees…something terrifyingly close to love? Lu Guang doesn’t know what the future holds. He doesn’t know if he can protect Cheng Xiaoshi from everything that’s coming. But he knows one thing for sure.
He’s not alone.
And that, for now, is enough.

Don't Tease Me Like That
Fluff ShiGuang fic for Link Click, consider it a palette cleanser after last time lmao
[...] Cheng Xiaoshi stared at him, and Lu Guang had the delight of watching every twitch of his face as the pieces fell into place. Confusion turning into thought turning into denial turning into a furious blush as he raised his voice in disbelief, “YOU WANT ME TO FUCK THIS GUY’S WIFE?!” ——— Or, it's an ordinary day in the studio, and Cheng Xiaoshi has been annoyingly clingy all morning. To get back at him a bit, Lu Guang decides to navigate the newest request with a few choice words.

soooo, i was NOT expecting Flashbang to get as much traction on here or on ao3 as it did 😀 um...
i'm glad y'all liked it sm!!! don't get me wrong, it was a super pleasant surprise! @sarahblueskyyyy i got you!! >w•
so uh... enjoy part 2?
The tapes had looked fuzzy.
They were cheap, Qiao Ling will admit, so the quality wasn’t always consistent… but bright white hair was hard to miss. Impossible to miss, really. Even in the dark, it caught eyes like a beacon.
So when that lanky figure had walked into the studio, fitted with a tailing brown coat and a barely visible watch, Qiao Ling thought she was getting pranked. He was broader in the shoulders, more assured in his methodical pace to the counter, but oh-so-unbearably familiar. It was almost uncomfortable.
No- it was uncomfortable.
Lu Guang was in the hospital because of this guy.
And- listen…. She was in no way, shape, or form under the delusion that her friend was the only person with a shock of white hair. Or even the only person with unusually colored hair [she thinks of braided red in her peripheral, as well as… pink..? For some reason? Eh, it’s not her problem right now]  okay? It’s just that- Qiao Ling could layer this silhouette over her friend and have a near identical match.
Cheng Xiaoshi grabs her by the shoulders, his calloused hands careful not to squeeze but to ground, and gives her a little jostle.
“Landlady,” he stresses, “What do you mean it looked like Lu Guang?”
Right, time and place. Qiao Ling could get lost in her musings later, when they weren’t going out of their minds waiting for Guangguang’s results.
She shakes her brother off.
“Exactly what I said!”
“What you said didn’t even make any sense! Why would Lu Guang-”
“I didn’t say it was-”
The siblings’ worried bickering gets cuffed when the doctor clears his throat.
“Family of Lu Guang…?” he ventures, looking between the two like they might bite his hand.
....honestly, she wouldn't put it past her brother. Or herself. She definitely remembers biting Cheng Xiaoshi at least once before, back when they were smaller and could get away with playfighting under the careful supervision of...
Well, anyway, Qiao Ling wonders if that would be something Lu Guang would enjoy... then again, she's seen him get winded from going up the stairs too fast so- maybe not.
Luckily, nothing seemed to be permanently damaged in Lu Guang's pretty head. Physically, anyway. He'd always... kinda been a mixed bag of loose screws. Qiao Ling wasn't even entirely sure if they were all his screws.
Sometimes, and this is nothing against him, Lu Guang was just kind of an odd dude. She'd catch him muttering to himself sometimes, and then an hour or two later she'd hear that exact phrase. From total strangers!
The burden of divination, she guessed...
When they get into his room, Cheng Xiaoshi immediately swarms his fair haired friend's side. Lu Guang looks... bad, to say the least. There are bandages wrapped around his eyes [a precaution to prevent further damage] and his hands are shaking against the hospital sheets. Which are somehow darker than his skin.
It makes her chest hurt.
[+ + +]
He doesn't ever wanna see Lu Guang like this again.
Lu Guang was never the pinnacle of health- with his fair skin, and near permanent eyebags- but now... now.. his friend looked ghostly. His chest hitched with slightly too shallow breaths, as his fingers balled tightly into the hospital sheets.
Which- those had to be off-white, right..? Because if they weren't then that would mean that Guangguang was paler than- he wasn't going to think about it.
On instinct, Cheng Xiaoshi wants to throw his arms around his fair friend's shoulders and never let go. Although considering that said friend currently couldn't see, doing so without warning probably.. wouldn't... end very well.
For either of them.
"Lu Guang...?" he tries instead, deciding to gently tap the bed about an inch from crooked knuckles. Something warms in his chest when they loosen on the bedding.
His fair friend shakily pats forward until he has a feeble grip on Cheng Xiaoshi's hand.
"It's weird hearing you sound so timid," Lu Guang jokes bluntly, but it falls slightly flat under the tremor of... fear.
Cheng Xiaoshi removes his hand from Lu Guang's, staunchly ignoring the way his heart shatters at the sad little sound his fair friend lets out- clearly unintentionally. He asked for so little from Xiaoshi...
"I'm going to hug you now," he warns, hands now resting on slim shoulders.
"...what."
"Cheng Xiaoshi-" Qiao Ling tries to cut in.
He doesn't heed either of their words. Lu Guang had sought out reassurance from him, and he was going to get it. Also Cheng Xiaoshi also kinda really needed a hug right now too.
It was scary seeing his friend crash like that, okay!?
With one hand sliding into fluffy white hair, he presses Lu Guang into his shoulder and buries his face atop his head. They're still for a second- tense- and then simultaneously release bone deep sighs of relief.
As aloof as he tried to appear, Lu Guang craved physical intimacy just as much as Cheng Xiaoshi did- maybe even more so, considering how often he would rest his ear against the darker haired boy's chest when he thought he was sound asleep.
Cheng Xiaoshi doesn't know what had happened to his roommate to make him so cautious- so dependant on hearing the steady thump-thump-thump of a beating heart, but if he could provide even a little bit of comfort to him...
He would oblige every, single, time.
Distantly, they can hear Qiao Ling talking with the doctor, though their heads are too fuzzy with the events of the day to properly register the words. Cheng Xiaoshi thinks his sister is either getting Lu Guang permission to come home early, or himself permission to stay, but he doesn't think too hard about it.
She'll tell them anything important.
He should've known his peaceful entanglement with Lu Guang couldn't last.
Qiao Ling gives them what could be hours, or just simply seconds, before shattering their bubble.
"You two... As cute as this is, we really.. need to talk about what happened."
Lu Guang stiffens in his arms, that ever present tension Cheng Xiaoshi had been working so hard to massage out now back in an instant. He tries not to mourn the loss of warmth as his fair friend pulls away.
He'll keep holding his hand though... Guangguang deserves that much.

SORRY WHAT, YOU WRITE FOR LINK CLICK?!? it's so rare to find LC fans these days TwT supeeeeer excited for s3 i always wanted to see how xiaoshi and lu would act if they have a crush on reader and if they would confess or not, sorry if its too simple. as a lu guang fan, i would really love to see him get embarrassed and flustered😋
It is so rare. I couldn't find anyone almost when I was searching ngl 😔🙏 but here I am!!
~~~
Link Click Headcanons { Confession or no? }
Tumblr media
° Lu Guang °
- Figured it out immediately after you'd done something to impress him that made him question his idea of you.
- He did find out about his crush months ago and wanted to make sure that a relationship would be possible to work between the two first before making any steps.
- Avoid eye contact at all cost and would go out of his way to help with smaller tasks you have wanting to show you he cares, acting composed like he would normally be.
- Very likely to tell you, but via a little note that he slid over even though you two sat next to each other. The tips of his ears would burn a bright red from being embarrassed but couldn't hide it.
° Cheng Xiaoshi °
- He might be smart, but not when it comes to romance such as he didn't even realise he'd be accidentally flirting with you from the start.
- Such as always being close to you at almost any moment he could but after a few weeks he'd still never pick up on it.
- Say one day you show interest in him and them he just goes 'Wait what' before it starts making sense to him as well as his heart picking up speed everytime he's around you from that day on.
- He'd confess in a more romantic way, such as bringing something you like and saying a whole speech with a little stammering over his own words but got through it nonetheless.
~~~
RAHHH I can't wait for the 3rd season to come out!! ♡♡ Hope you enjoyed the headcanons!! ♡

I wrote a new fic. I was inspired by hktkparody1week theme school! I hope you will enjoy it!
Felt like Home
Summary:
The bruises on his face, on his knuckles hurt. They hurt so bad. He hated to feel weak. This has happened already so many times and still he couldn’t stop his tears nor his pain. Small steps echoed, and Cheng Xiaoshi held his breath, silencing any sounds. Just from the corner of his eye, he looked behind his back. “What do you want?” “I was searching for you…”
