the whole treatment of/discussion around the pandemic has just forever jaded me in a way i can’t put into words. like the whole world shut down, everything got turned upside down, and the government and corporations showed themselves for who they truly were. and then we just… went right back to it, or were expected to, after only like two weeks? the world was turned upside down, and then everyone was like ‘nothing to see here, return to normal’ and at first it was just the worst of the government and the richest of corporations, but then it was everyone. everyone just accepted at face value that yeah, everythings back to normal :) meanwhile, the whole world got shut down and resurrected and came back wrong and no one cares. my whole life was upended, as were many peoples. im lucky i didn’t lose anyone to the pandemic, i can’t imagine how much more jaded id be if i had and then i heard people saying ‘its fine its just like the flu now:)’. just… fuck. ill never be over how fucked it was and still is and everyone thinks its normal and fine to catch a deadly virus at least once a year. ‘but masks are uncomfortable’, or ‘people will say something to me if i wear a mask’ — i don’t care. find one thats comfortable and grow a spine. in the NEARLY FIVE YEARS ive worn a mask, i can count on one hand how many times people have said something to me about it, and it was a conversation that ended in seconds. the worst someone ever said to me was ‘masks don’t work’ and i replied ‘yes they do’ and that was it, they gave up after that. its not that hard. and thats one of the parts thats jaded me the most — the general idea of not masking because its ‘uncomfortable’. growing up, i was always told id have to do things as an adult, even if i didn’t want to, because thats just what you have to do. and all these adults can’t bother wearing a mask because they don’t want to. i lost faith in the world after that. if everyone’s just going to be selfish about something so simple, how can they be trusted with the big things?

he has been racing with an injured shoulder since brazil, he raced in the american triple header with an intestinal infection, but people always bring up age when it comes to fernando, they never give him the benefit of the doubt, he's always being called old but no one ever stop to think that maybe he's just human and like the rest of us can have bad days, get sick or get injured and it's actually sad to see how someone that gives his 100% every race isn't allowed to have a bad day without being called old (something he ISN'T btw)

anyway, i hope he gets the rest he needs and takes time to heal properly and enjoy the break he deserves to come back stronger next year 💚

i'd read several people saying that this chapter sucked and that the end was bullshit so i was a little scared at what had happened but...

i literally don't understand how someone could be upset by this...?? i feel like this outcome has been heavily implied throughout the entire arc. like, just a few chapters ago, bonney used a technique very similar to one of luffy's. are we reading the same manga? lol

and from a storytelling standpoint, it's just so poetic. both of bonney's parents suffered and ultimately died (we still need confirmation on kuma, tho) at the hands of the WG. she, herself, fell terminally ill because of saturn's human experimentation. she carried a lot of unresolved trauma, and now that she's met luffy, she's starting to overcome it all. kuma told her that nika would free her, and it's happening!! how could anyone complain about this?

and to say that this undermines luffy's journey and efforts to awaken his df... please. we still don't know if she's gonna have a quarter of luffy's power if anything at all. stop assuming things just off of one panel. time will tell. for now, i very much like this concept, and i'm excited to see what oda will do with this in the future. he's never disappointed me, so far, when it comes to the story. i don't see why he would now.

Really hoping that Sonic 4 isn't just a sonamy fest. It was already annoying how much it was pushed in the Boom universe, I'd hate it if the same thing happened in Sonic 4.

Already seeing fans begging for the onesided romance to be reversed and wanting Sonic to be a simp... why??? The Sonic series isn't focused on romance, especially in the cinematic universe. And you want Sonic's character completely butchered just to push a ship, even if Sonic and Amy's dynamic is nothing like it is in the games??? You care about the movies being faithful to the games but suddenly when it's about sonamy it goes out the window

Honestly, I don’t know what I want the relationship with Cap and Billy to be.

Because I get why some people want them to be wholly separate beings. It just makes sense that Marvel is completely nonhuman. That he’s just magic given form.

But I don’t entirely like that conclusion. To me, it takes away the fact that billy is responsible for all those lives saved. That he is the one sacrificing his time and putting his life on the line. That he is the one getting all this trauma. Making them separate takes that all away for me.

But there’s also the issue that new52 dc doesn’t do that right either. When Cap and Billy ARE the same, Cap acts like a stupid kid, an overgrown child. I mean that’s not it completely. I have an entire separate issue with how New52 handles Billy’s personality and lore, but we can’t get into that rn or this rant will go on forever.

And the thing is DC DOES know how to handle Cap and Billy being the same(or not the same, but like Cap is Billy with…more. He’s Billy, but he’s also magic itself. Like a fusion of sorts. He has memories and some of his personality, but he doesn’t act like an idiot).

I mean, look at JL Unlimited. Despite Cap still acting somewhat childish, it never goes overboard. He’s even admired by his fellow Leaguers. Hell, BATMAN says the League needs him because of how sunny he is! And sure, while there’s some childishness in the YJ cartoon, it’s not cringy(at least to me, because when you see what they did to him in JL:Throne of Atlantis…)

There’s that one other movie with Superman and Batman that I can’t remember the name of, where some heroes are going after Superman for a reason I ALSO can’t remember. Cap is one of them, and he never once acts like a stupid kid. He, like those other heroes, doesn’t have the whole picture, and that’s why he’s attacking Supes.

Thwre is a way to have Cap and Billy be the same entity, have the same memories, but also be somewhat different. There is a way to make sure that Billy is shown to be responsible for the lives he saves. There is a way to give Cap respect in this universe because it has been done before. New52 needs to work on that or we’ll have this issue forever🙄.

It almost makes me glad we don’t have a Shazam/Captain Marvel tv show because gods know what they might do to him. I’m telling you, we have had the “child gets given tremendous responsibility and fucks up” schtik over and over and over for the past century and probably more. It’s been done. So many times.

Cap was a beloved hero in the 1940s and pre-52 BECAUSE he didn’t adhere to that. Because the writers made sure we knew he was capable of being responsible and a hard worker, and not an idiot, all while being like 10. And in recent years it has STILL been done.

It is possible. Just do it right!

I bitch a lot about the bad writing for the women but I assure you the feelings are mutual for the men.

Shinichi and Kaito's misogyny and sexism are something is find incredibly painful about their characters and there are actions committed by the both of them that I would never forgive if they weren't fictional characters.

For Kaito it's how he harrasses Aoko. The skirt flipping and sharing the colour of her panties is awful and I don't care if it's a "product of it's time" as it should have NEVER been a product of its time. And the anime has been remade twice and both times they include him doing this to her. And with Gosho making the movies canon too, which we see with him including more and more movie things into the series, that means him trying to grope Ran was also canon...

For Shinichi his treatment of Ran is beyond gross but there is a thing he's done that is just as gross as Kaito's behaviour and that's trying to keep a picture of a sexual nature (Ran's boobs taken without and then given to him without her permission) that she asked him to delete and he tried to save it instead. That is unforgivable and when I saw that in the anime I was beyond creeped out. He has also tried to get into the bath with Ran again, but this time on purpose knowing that it would be wrong to do so.

There are probably more instances with the two of them but these are the ones at the top of my head.

Now I am completely aware these are tropes meant to be funny in nature but as a woman I can't find them funny. They make me feel gross. How the author writes and treats women in his series is beyond appalling to be honest, but this is the standard for many anime and manga too, and he's not the only one doing so.

You're probably thinking "if she's so disgusted why does she keep consuming the series?" and I don't blame you for thinking that way, but I'm just being critical of a piece of media that I otherwise enjoy a lot and if I stopped consuming stuff I had problems with I would end up with nothing to enjoy because everything has problems. I just want to vent my feelings in my personal blog about how frustrated I am with the writing of these characters at times.

I know the full arsenal update is out and hype for that but I just found the gutterman's poem in 7-2 and I HAVE to type about it because its night where I am and I cant wake up my friends to rant about Ultrakill.

Anyway, absolutely indescribable how we have the thoughts of a machine just laid bear in a secret for the first and maybe last time. The fact that a machine made for merciless slaughter could not only feel sadness for the person powering it but also WRITE a POEM? A machine made art??? The knowledge that they understand how cruel it is to make a human a blood battery, recognize it as torture, but also feel gratitude for the life they've been given?? It was known that machines had a sense of aesthetic from Swordsmachine and Mindflayer's entries but. Goddamn. The gutterman refers to the human as their mother and it states it CRIED when it crushed her skull as it hoped it would redeem its life.

Also the excerpt, "I know I know you would hate me so, and mother of me, I do too." Does this mean the Gutterman hated itself as much as the human? Did it hate the human instead along with the feelings of love and gratitude? Probably the former. Gutterman angst is so in.

V2's mannerisms and Swordsmachine's data entry are intresting, but a gutterman's eulogy for its prisoner and its attempt at redemption is another level. Actual machine thought process recorded!! Sapient lifeform that knows only war and death! The fact that the gutterman crushing the human's skull seemed to be out of mercy. Ough.

If you haven’t yet watched Elias’s video on the Avatar franchise from a perspective of a Native American — please do, it’s a very good watch! Plenty informative and insightful. Summarises not only his own opinion of the movies but also what the general reception of said franchise has been by native communities (it’s about 50-50 from what I gathered.)

What peaks my curiosity with this essay is how much it revealed of JC’s perspective. My opinion of JC has soured greatly, as you may have heard if you caught me in my Twitter era before I got outta there, and new context only contributed to my disappointment, yet at the same time revealing the titanium effort the few natives who got involved with the franchise put in to make, especially the second movie, as authentic as possible, which is incredibly tragic as that should have been the job of the culture consultants, of which I have no knowledge of whether James Cameron hired at all.

Everything I like about these movies came from the effort of actors, artists, musicians, lore writers and designers. Avatar is very obviously a big group effort, not just JC’s passion project, as when Elias detailed some of James’s inspirations for the first movie I realised “Oh…oh he did not make allat. He had massive help.” And it applies especially to the sequel.

I love this franchise, but it became very apparent to me that it is NOT because of its main producer. If anything, his motivations behind some choices in the script left a sour taste in my mouth about A1, that I will need time to recover from. I won’t stop liking the franchise, but I’m very much over the idea of its producer being hellbent on doing things on his own.

Avatar 3 and every instalment after NEEDS native writers and consultants. I don’t think I’ll remain a fan for long if it doesn’t, because the money is there, so why not take the opportunity??

There is no way anybody using these terms isn't aware of how ableist it is to take away not just the language of people who have paralytic disorders, but the entire NAME of our disorders. And even beyond that, to block out any tags and search results relating to said disorders with your million variations on those terms so that we can't form a community online, or even find each other at all. Fuck off. You are not paralysed, you have executive dysfunction. Adhd isn't even the only disorder that CAUSES executive dysfunction. Get over yourself.

this has less to do with rp and more to do with general online spaces, but if you find yourself in a group that keeps 'receipts', if you are surrounded by people with loads of screenshots, who lurk and keep tabs on people they don't like, who will constantly publicly mock and joke either vaguely or overtly about people they've had beef with (even people that are annoying, done weird or even problematic stuff but they keep bringing it back up) you are in a toxic environment. even if they seem to have the moral high ground, still be cautious. take it from someone who has been around the block a few times, drama follows circles like that and you'll end up anxious and always worried about ending up on their bad side. 9 times out of 10 they're making fun of everyone behind the scenes. people who have your best interest at heart will always care more about supporting you and lifting each other up than keeping track of every slight and finding excuses to be scornful.

okay this has been going through my mind for days and I have to get my thoughts out before I explode

Disclaimer, this is not talking about a specific artist/person and would never condone or participate in anon hate or online bullying for any reason but especially this one. 

I get why people are mad about Link being portrayed as this buff, hypermasculine, tall guy. I am too (again don’t fucking attack people over it though) and it seems like such an infuriating way to change the character just to fit into some ideal of hypermasculine attractiveness or to make a ship fall into a more hetero lense by making him a decent foot taller than whatever girl he’s being paired with. 

The world of video games and action movies and every form of media ever is extremely saturated with male characters that are swole and manly and whatever other descriptors people are trying to push onto Link that don’t fit into his actual character. There are so many characters out there that already fit this male standard and having a clearly androgynous elf guy was like a breath of fresh air. 

Link was literally designed to be a character whose lines on gender were blurred, ‘a girl with a masculine touch or a guy with a feminine touch’ so that anyone could project themselves onto him. His physical design in botw/totk was specifically made to be feminine enough to wear a certain outfit to pass as a woman (which includes a nearly mandatory cutscene where he puts on the clothes and blushes after being called pretty, like you have to be blind to think that its an experience that he doesn’t like at all) and in totk there are a bunch of outfits made for Link that are blatantly gnc, ones that are practically dresses, include nail polish and lipstick, you can even dye his hair bright and vivid colors and that’s half way to giving him new pronouns. The whole reason Linkle isn’t included in more mainline loz games was because her existence would force Link into a gender dichotomy, if there's a clearly female version of the main hero, that means the main hero has to be a man, and they would rather abandon a potential reoccurring character than make Link conform to a gender binary. 

So pardon me when it feels disingenuous and even malicious for him to be morphed into these clear masculine ideals, where he towers over any female romantic partner (even when in canon he is regularly depicted as noticeably shorter than her) or even in m/m fanworks he’s really beefed up, perhaps to make the scene feel more gay or something. 

Perhaps it’s because his more twink-y/ femboy body type is so heavily sexualized (though obviously when people are sculping abs on him it’s totally not because they’re horny about it) and that’s an issue in itself that bothers me. But it’s just so tiring to see one of the very few popular main characters who is short and feminine and androgynous be molded into just another bland muscle-headed action hero over and over and over again. 

I’m not mad at the creators for portraying him differently than how I like him portrayed, I’m mad because we really do get so few characters like him in good popular media, and to be honest, I really like him the way that he is. I love that he’s tiny and has long hair and has the option to dress any way the player likes. It seems a little distasteful to make him taller than a female love interest just because that’s how straight couples have to be, there’s just never been a real straight couple where the guy is shorter than the girl, that’s just Impossible! (/s)

i need some people to understand that fernando saying 2026 MIGHT be his last year in f1 is NOT bad, of course he's going to say that for two reasons: that's when his contract ends and with the new regs if honda doesn't deliver right away then there's no point in him staying any longer. i want him in f1 as much as everyone does but unless 2026 is a good year where fernando is constantly fighting at the front then he should leave because he will be 45 by then which means he doesn't have the privilege of time by his side and he can't spend more time fighting at the back waiting for his team to finally get their shit together. fernando himself has said that he's open to staying after 2026 but only if he "has fun" in 2026 and i understand him. besides, i would rather see him thriving in other categories like rally than see him being miserable in f1. if you guys want to be dramatic about him possibly retiring in 2026 be my guest but at least wait a little longer because the 2025 season hasn't even started yet and you guy are already crying over 2026 without knowing if anything is going to happen

So tumblr premium is a go now (I got a survey about this months ago and knew it would probably happen so I'm not surprised). But the people freaking out about it... you don't have to buy it. Like...? I get it the majority of the tumblr user base freaks out about every change (aside from polls which was a good freak out), but no one is forcing anyone to do anything. Tumblr needs to make money, it's a business, and from what has been stated previously this site loses money constantly. I am not surprised in the least they're doing this. I'm more surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

But that doesn't mean not to send in feedback. Definitely do that and do it constructively. Don't yell at staff, it's shitty and the equivalent of being a Karen in a retail store. The staff always gets the brunt of the anger at every change, which sucks. It's like yelling at the baristas for serving a different type of coffee when really you want to be yelling at the manager/boss. Go yell and tell them to go fuck themselves, they're the ones who deserve it.
