I know Sonic was inspired by lots of characters from Mario, to Mickey Mouse to the president, but was Eggman based on another exciting character or characters? Or was he original

Oh great question, fun dive time!

Eggman was initially designed as early concepts for Sega's new mascot but was looked over for the role when passerbys in New York responded more positively to Sonic's initial designs over his. That coupled with more internal structuring on the story led to the team repurposing him as the main villain.

One of the major inspiration bases for Sonic as a series is the massive cultural impact that is Laputa, Castle in the Sky (1986), especially in Japan. You watch that and you'll note numerous references that act as the source DNA influence for the whole series such as:

Ancient yet Advanced Technology

Remains of long dead civilizations

Robots that seem to have souls and gentle dispositions

Progress/Technology versus Nature (prominent in all Miyazaki films)

Mysterious Floating Island

Magical gemstone that grants one's wishes and carry a deep resonating connection to ancient history

A central, giant version of these gemstones that powers the whole island and keeps it afloat

Miyazaki's influence on Sonic cannot be overstated and a great example is this character motif that popped up a couple times in his works. Specifically the husband of the female pirate captain in Laputa. (If you're interested in more about Laputa's impact on Sonic, this blog sums it up quite well!)

And below is an even earlier example of this kind of character design from Lupin the Third Wings of Death: Albatross, which Miyazaki directed in 1980. Another note is that Lupin influenced Sonic too, as Fujiko Mine inspired Rouge! And this particular film is a goldmine of Fujiko moments that really give that Rouge feel.

These influences are more evident in his earliest designs than current one.

I think considering how prominent airplanes and flying machinery are in Miyazaki's works, it informed quite a bit of Eggman's vehicles as well. Not to mention Star Wars and Gundam also heavily influencing his creations!

Supposedly he was also meant to invoke Teddy Roosevelt which I can see honestly and would line up with Sonic's Clinton influence. Sonic Team reaaallly wanted Americans to like their game lol

Ohshima mentioned too that Eggman's classic design's cape is based on collars of Sea Cadets.

So yeah, guy's got a richly dense influence pool. It's fun diving into things like this because you see how much careful thought, consideration and just crazy creativity went into these characters and the world around them. Thanks for the fun question Anon!

Thoughts on remadora?

thank you very much for the asks, anons!

while they are by no means my otp, i really enjoy remadora as pairing - and i think they’re fully up there among the canon couples in terms of being an amazing vehicle through which to explore all sorts of questions about life and love - which i am aware is a sufficiently controversial statement that it involves an immediate engagement with some discourse…

because remadora girlies [gender neutral] get an enormous amount of shit within the fandom, particularly from fans who consider wolfstar to be a more plausible pairing for lupin than tonks. i have seen remadora shippers called homophobes for simply enjoying the couple, justified with the bizarre idea that it disrespects remus' relationship with sirius [so... the non-canon one?] to put them together. i have seen tonks turned into a pathetic shrew who is trying to keep remus from the real love of his life by trapping him with an unwanted baby. i have seen remadora shippers get a lot of the usual stuff that people who prefer the canon-endgame couples do [that to ship a canon pair is boring, that it is indicative of a lack of talent, that it indicates an uncritical support for jkr] magnified to eleven because tonks has the temerity to be a barrier to remus’ relationship with the fandom’s favourite hot and brooding man.

obviously, this is bullshit - primarily because its unreasonable and cruel to invest so much time and energy being mean to people because of their harry potter shipping preferences [fandom should never be that deep].

but it’s also a disappointment to me personally because it means that it can be very hard to find the sort of remadora i like without looking like i’m coming to contribute to the pile-on. because where many remadora fans and i don’t see eye-to-eye is that i have absolutely no interest in thinking about them as a relationship which is actually functional. and, all too often, i find myself sifting through fics which do prefer to interpret them like this - as romantic and passionate and stable - largely, i think it’s fair to say, as a defensive move against the tide of “urgh, imagine shipping that” nonsense - even though all the evidence of canon is that they are… very much not.

i am aware of the pottermore article which smoothes the edges of lupin’s canonical reaction to tonks’ feelings for him in half-blood prince - but, while i read this as something of a retcon to make the relationship more palatable, i also don’t think that assuming that both tonks and lupin’s attraction to each other was sincere precludes them being as dysfunctional as they canonically are. i don’t go in for the common anti-remadora argument that tonks “forces” him into a relationship with her - it’s clear in half-blood prince that it’s not only her who has discussed her feelings with molly and arthur weasley, lupin is definitely flirting with her when they pick harry up in order of the phoenix, lupin is an adult man [no matter other power imbalances between him and tonks - such as the fact that she is an agent of the state which oppresses him] who possesses the capacity to refuse her advances, and - since teddy’s conception is not immaculate - he has no issue with enjoying a sexual relationship with her even if he then wants to run away from the product of that.

instead, what i like with remadora is that they reveal something which goes against the grain of the rest of the series: that love is not always enough. throughout the seven-book canon, we see time and time again the idea that love - and, crucially, love-as-noble-suffering and love-as-sacrifice - is enough to overcome any problem. entire civil service collaborating with a terrorist regime? don’t trouble yourself, love has won. your mother dying in childbirth leaving you to be neglected in a state institution? your own fault you’re not interested in love.

i understand the genre reasons for this, but i also love the way in which lupin especially exists on the margins of these genre conventions [just as he exists on the margins of wizarding society!]. i’m always struck in deathly hallows that he’s the only person who’s actually realistic about the demands of war - particularly when he tells harry that it is breathtakingly naive for him to think he can get through the fighting without having to shoot to kill - and that part of him having to be shuffled out of the way when harry tells him to return to the pregnant tonks is because, were the story focused on realism, the idea of a wanted man who is considered an unhuman by the state fleeing in order to guarantee the safety of his wife and unborn child becomes eminently reasonable and harry's defense of the nuclear family embarrassingly unradical.

and so i like the idea of lupin seeing tonks - and tonks seeing lupin - initially as just a bit of fun, as the two of them being just two chill single people who think the other is hot and interesting and want to bang because of it.

[which is something fandoms in general really struggle with as a concept. we like epic love stories - and you won't find me objecting to that! - but we're less good at thinking about casual sexual attraction or transient friendships, and how these can be transformative and meaningful without having to end up going any sort of distance.]

and i then like the idea of the relationship being forced into a profundity it doesn’t really have the juice to sustain by the sheer avalanche of grief which besets the two of them - sirius, dumbledore, mad-eye, ted - and by the pressure of the war and the fact that the order is scrambling and the hangover of remus' self-destruction in half-blood prince which makes each cling to the other as a life-raft. i like remadora as something codependent and messy and strange and sad, and i don’t think this prevents it being sincere and fun and based in mutual attraction, but instead that these positive qualities can exist in conjunction with the fact that, without the war, it would have been a summer of fucking and that was probably it.

on tonks herself, i don’t think i can say it better than @evesaintyves in this meta on her character. i’ve been really uncomfortable with quite a lot of stuff i’ve seen recently which has taken against the idea that tonks can be meaningfully read as queer on the basis of what we find in the text, above all because it so often comes with the implication that one cannot imagine her in her canon endgame pairing and presume that she’s something other than straight or cisgender. eve sets out an excellent case for tonks as bolshy and liberated and in tune with herself and fun and confused and in flux and still figuring stuff out about who she is and where she’s going - and this translates, may i say, to an astonishingly beautiful way of writing her, lupin, and the dysfunction inherent between them which i highly recommend you read.

Hi! Could you tell me your top 5 least favorite Harry Potter characters and why?

My 5 most hated characters in Harry Potter are:

5 - Molly Weasley: I can’t stand this woman. I can’t stand how she acts like a morally superior, pure-blood yet holds endless prejudices, especially (and mostly) toward other, younger women. I don’t like her tradwife vibe, and I don’t like how overbearing and suffocating she is. Seriously, in real life, I’d feel the urge to tell her off—she’s that typical annoying woman who doesn’t know where the boundaries are.

4 - Remus Lupin: Zero sympathy for a man almost forty who got a 24-year-old girl pregnant and then abandoned her. Remus Lupin is a coward and a piece of trash, a bullying accomplice who keeps his head down regarding his own actions and needs a 17-year-old to teach him a lesson in manhood. I really wish Tonks had left him and taken off with Teddy to get as far away as possible from that pathetic excuse for a person.

3 - Dumbledore: Starting with the fact that the entire problem of the story basically stems from his irresponsibility with Tom Riddle, which already showed that he was a terrible teacher. He only shows concern for students who can serve his purposes or suck up to him, and his involvement throughout the story shows a moral stance I find nauseating. I mean, he’s a guy who has the nerve to lecture his former students who “chose the wrong path,” but when those same students were under his care, he constantly neglected and rejected them just because they didn’t belong to a certain house. He had the audacity to call Severus Snape “miserable” when it was Dumbledore himself who allowed Snape to be bullied and almost killed without lifting a finger to stop it or punish the bullies. This same Dumbledore scolds Draco Malfoy for not trusting him when from Draco’s first day at Hogwarts, all he saw from the old man was favoritism toward a certain house and certain students, completely ignoring the rest. Honestly, I’d have banned him from teaching. There’s a lot said about Snape as a teacher, but Dumbledore was responsible for everything, allowed terrible things to happen, and turned his back on many vulnerable children and teenagers. Then he acted all surprised when they ended up in bad places. Screw him, hypocritical old man.

2 - Ginny Weasley: The “I’m not like other girls,” the “shut up, Hermione, you don’t know anything about Quidditch,” the “everyone look at me, I hex people, I’m one of the boys, I’m not vain but I’m hot, but I’m not prissy,” the “I make fun of girls who are pretty, flirty, and feminine because I’m a textbook pick-me girl” who is shoved into the end of the series. She’s a character who didn’t matter at all throughout the story; she’s barely mentioned in some books, but suddenly she’s Harry’s love interest because J.K. Rowling needed all her characters to end up married with 468749284 kids, and Harry needed to be part of the Weasley family. So, they had to do something. Ginny is a terrible character, going from irrelevant to some sort of Mary Sue who even the Slytherins drool over and who, of course, is not a “typical girl” because being a “typical girl” in Rowling’s world is somehow the original sin. So, she’s great at sports, hexes people, pulls pranks because she’s so cool, uh uh uh, she’s not like the others, uh uh uh, but she has internalized misogyny that you can smell from here to China. Honestly, someone should have slapped her for being so damn stupid.

1 - James Potter: There’s nothing I haven’t already said about James Potter. He’s a character who really grinds my gears because they try to sell him as some kind of hero, but he was just a spoiled rich kid who decided to torment a poor, vulnerable boy simply because that boy was friends with his crush. He used his social power and status to get away with all the crap he pulled, attacked in groups, lied to his girlfriend saying he’d stopped bullying people when he really hadn’t, and when he was supposed to be locked up in a house with his wife and son, he was off fooling around with his best friend. James Potter was an ass, and defending him is defending classism, elitism, and whitewashing social classes. I’m not going to explain why.

Sirius loved his job. He loved working with tiny humans. He loved being one of the people who introduced them to the world outside their home. To show them nature, read stories, and chat with them while they drew scribbly pictures.

The plan had been for him to go into politics, like his father, and grandfather. And great grandfathers, back further than he cared to think about. But even Orion Black couldn’t get on board with his gay son inheriting his seat in the House of Lords. So they swiftly moved onto the spare, until they pushed him to rebellion too. According to the last email, Regulus was running a vineyard in France and was stunningly happy, which made Sirius happy in turn.

Each year he got kids from all walks of life. Kids with two moms, disabled kids, kids in care, kids with more energy than they knew what to do with, kids whose passions were adorably wild for four-year-olds, like cooking or cricket. His godson had just started in his class and was proving to be a handful, as he knew he would be. Any child that was half James Potter and half Lily Evans, with a healthy dose of Sirius’ influence could be nothing less.

But when he got word that he had a student starting the school year a month late, he mentally assigned Harry as his buddy. Within minutes of having Teddy Lupin in his class, he knew it was a good decision.

He’d been in a meeting when Teddy arrived. He’d meant to have a chat with Teddy’s parent. Dad, he seemed to remember the paperwork saying, with a name almost as ridiculous as his own. Roman? Something like that. He’d have to catch him at the end of the day. His teaching assistant, Dorcas told him that the dad seemed as nervous as Teddy, but that he was cute and sarcastic. If she said that with a pointed look at him, he pretended not to notice.

Teddy let Harry show him around the classroom, the reading nook, the ‘pretend area’ that was set up as a cafe this week, the toy cupboard and finally their table. Teddy asked lots of questions and Sirius took this as a good sign. Better he ask than feel like he couldn’t.

Once the class was settled, working on drawing their house and family, Sirius crouched next to Teddy’s desk.

“How’re you getting on, Teddy?” He said quietly.

“Good, I think.” He stuck his tongue between his teeth as he concentrated on drawing. “I only have to draw me and my dad.”

“That’s not fair!” Ron moaned from the other side of the table. “I think I need more Paper!”

Sirius chuckled, “But think how much your mum and dad will love this drawing, with all of you on it!” He’d taught Ron’s twin brothers a couple of years ago, and he knew for a fact that they had not produced any pictures like this for their family, so it would be a nice change of pace for them. He turned back to Teddy, “If you need help or anything at all, just let me know. There are no stupid questions, ok?” Teddy nodded, not looking away from his drawing.

Teddy was the last to collect his belongings at the end of the day, and Sirius helped him put his water bottle into his tiny backpack before they headed for the door. “Oh, wait! Your lovely drawing!” Sirius grabbed it off his desk. “I bet your dad is going to love this!”

“He does drawing. For a job!” Teddy shared, gleefully. “I want to do that.”

“Well based on today’s artwork, I think you’d be a fantastic artist!” He smiled down at Teddy, who beamed up at him. “Come on, let’s go find your dad.”

Teddy’s Dad, who Dorcas was, annoyingly, definitely not wrong about, was waiting on the playground alone, looking nervously at the door. He visibly sighed in relief when he saw them and walked towards them.

“Dad!” Teddy ran towards him and was swept up into a hug. “Dad! I did art!”

“You did?” Teddy’s dad asked earnestly. “Can I see it?” Sirius held out the drawing, which he took and examined. He crouched next to his son. “You drew the new house. Wow! That’s so much detail, Teds. This is amazing. We’re going to put this on the wall in the kitchen!”

Teddy grinned at his dad, and then back at Sirius. “Thank you for Today.”

Sirius’ heart melted a little bit, “Thank you, Teddy! Can’t wait to see you tomorrow.”

“Why don’t you go and play on the swings for a minute, while I have a quick chat with Mr…”

“Black.” Sirius supplied, “Sirius.”

Remus nodded as Teddy ran to the tiny swings on the playing field. “Was he alright? No trouble?”

“No trouble at all, he’s a good kid.” Sirius smiled, “His art skills are so advanced for his age. I honestly wouldn’t blink if you told me a ten-year-old drew this. Must be genetic.”

“Ah, he’s been bragging about me?” His cheeks flushed slightly and it was possibly the cutest thing that Sirius had ever seen.

“Yeah, seems he wants to follow in your footsteps.” Sirius paused, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t ask your name.”

“Remus. Lupin.” Remus. That was it. Remus’ cheeks grew pinker. “Well, thank you. I was so nervous about him starting late. He’s my world, but we had to move back. My mum.” Sirius understood. “But it seems he’s... in good hands.” A slight smirk teased the corners of Remus’ mouth.

Sirius had plenty of single mums flirt with him over the years, but this was new. “I’ll tell you what, Remus. Why don’t I give you my number, just in case.” He dragged his eyes up Remus’ torso.

“Sounds good,” Remus said, breathlessly.

It's lovely up here; all meadows dotted with wildflowers, wind-beaten tracks criss-crossing this way and that through the fields, weaving inland to the pinewoods. The sun's hot on his back as he passes ramshackle stone walls, long since crumbled to piles of ancient rubble and scree, and then the path winds downwards, still following the line of the coast until Sirius finds himself outside an old white cottage, tucked away behind the hill with a rose garden that faces out to the sea.

Sirius moves to Cornwall for the summer and meets a rude, beautiful boy who is writing a book that may or may not be about dragons.

Remus Lupin is a senior copywriter at an advertising agency, currently single by choice, and very comfortable with his unchanging daily routine, his familiar colleagues and his company-issued ergonomic chair that’s been his for three years now. When his favourite graphic designer is replaced by a twitchy, fresh-out-of-university Sirius Black, his peaceful routine takes an unexpected hit.

“We’re here!” Harry called from a room in the back, peeking his head out, “Draco?” 

“What is all this laund—.” Draco paused, finding Harry standing there with Teddy, who was visibly distressed as he held up two shirts. “What is this?” 

“Ted is nervous about what to wear tomorrow.”

Draco blinked, “but he’ll be wearing robes?” Harry gave Draco a look that seemed to silence the man, who then looked at Teddy, “Teddy,” Draco said quietly, “I mean, Ted.” 

“It’s stupid, I know!” He yelled at the other, his face shading, “just get out!” 

“Ted,” Harry sighed, sitting on the edge of his bed. “Don’t be mean.” 

“I’m not!” Teddy came back at him, jerking around, “you two don’t get it!” 

Draco took a breath, 15 was a trying age he was learning. They both had learned over the summer. Draco and Harry, 33 now, forgot what the teenage years were like. Not to mention the way they grew up… it was a different time. They didn’t sit around fretting about what to wear to school, they were too busy fighting a war. 

Harry met Draco’s eyes, and offered a small smile, “Ted, I think, you’re right.” Harry spoke softly, and held his hand out towards Draco, who moved across the room and sat on the edge of the bed. “We didn’t really have the time to worry about these things.” 

Teddy stared at them, blowing out a breath. “Why don’t you explain it to us, so we understand, a little better?” Draco suggested carefully. 

“It’s hard being the son of Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy,” the teenager said, sinking down in the chair at his desk. “Everyone watches everything I do, all the time!” 

“Well, I think we both can understand that part.” Draco said dryly, earning a look from the teenager. “I’m just saying, yes we do understand that feeling, Teddy.” 

“It’s Ted!” 

Draco sighed, and stood, “okay, Ted, if you’re going to act like this, I am going to leave.” He turned and walked out the door, leaving Harry and him to have the argument that was brewing. 

Draco didn’t do arguments, barely ever with Harry, and never with Teddy. Who was now glaring at the open door, and throwing his hands up. Harry took a moment, and stood as well, “Ted he loves you, just as much as I do. There is no reason to be hateful to him.” 

“I’m not a baby!” Ted roared, “I just wan—.” He stopped, tears streaming down his face, “it’s just hard, Dad.” 

“I understand that,” Harry moved, wrapping his arms around Teddy, “We are here, you know that?” The boy nodded, tears falling, “and, we’re always going to be here.” Teddy nodded again, crying as Harry held him. “Teddy, I’m good at a few things but Draco is much better at things like this.” 

“I know,” Teddy sobbed out, hugging Harry close to him. 

“Draco, love,” Harry called, turning slightly. And, Draco was there immediately. He took in the sight, standing there with his arms crossed as he watched. 

Teddy didn’t look at him, he just sat there in tears. Harry always thought Draco and Teddy were quite similar in a lot of senses. Be it the Black family genes, or be it just growing up around the other. Because, as much as Draco and Harry were older than Teddy Lupin, they did a lot of growing up while raising the boy.

Draco took a breath, and a step into the room. He moved Harry with a wave of his hand and then he was holding the 15 year old man close to his chest, Harry stepped back and let them have their moment, listening when Draco spoke. 

“It wasn’t easy being Draco Malfoy or Harry Potter, either, Ted.” He said softly, “Merlin knows we did our best, and sometimes it wasn’t great.” 

“You never talk about it.”

“No, I don’t… I wasn’t the greatest person when I was 15/16/17 years old, okay?” Draco kissed him on the top of his head, “but, I pray to whoever is sitting up in the sky that I— we have you the best parts of us as you grew.” Ted turned and looked at him, his hazel eyes searching Draco’s face, “so, I understand you’re stressed out and you feel you have all these expectations from us, but speaking for both of us… Ted, you don’t have to be anything you’re not? Merlin, we are so bloody proud of you. Every single day.” 

“If you didn’t know that, that’s our fault.” Harry said softly, giving Teddy a smile when he looked at him. 

“So, is this really about clothing?” Draco asked carefully, feeling Teddy sag in his arms. 

“No,” Teddy whispered, shaking his head. 

“Okay,” Draco gave him a squeeze, “now, are you better, or would you rather I embarrass you by telling you all the things I love and adore about you?” 

Teddy groaned, though he was smiling, “daaaaad!” 

“That’s what I thought.” Draco grinned, “clean up this mess,” he gave the young man a pointed look, “and mind your manners.” He added, before bending down and giving his cheek a kiss. “I love you, Ted.” 

Harry smiled when Teddy gave him another hug, “I’m sorry I yelled at you, dad.” 

“I’ve had worse,” Draco promised, “hurry up, now. It’s our last night together until the holiday.” Teddy nodded his understanding, standing to start picking up his room. Harry followed Draco out, watching the blonde give his wand a swish and all the laundry in the front den straightened, folded, and stacked on the settee. 

“Okay, Draco?” Harry asked once he put his wand away. 

“I forgot what 15 was like, Potter. Merlin.” He turned to face him, “we’re doing it right, aren’t we?” 

“I don’t think we ever really know, Draco,” Harry frowned, and took his hand, “we should probably check on him more.” 

“I write to him daily,” Draco frowned, “I’ll plan visits for Fridays, when they attend Hogsmead.” 

“We will,” Harry suggested, giving Draco’s hand a squeeze. 

“Does that make it worse or better?” Draco questioned, “I’ll talk to him before he leaves. Just us.” 

“How about this,” Harry smiled, stepping back, “I cook his favorite dinner, you take him clothes shopping.” 

“I don’t think it was really about clothes….” 

“You’ll have a chance to talk.” Harry shrugged, “and, just let him get whatever he wants. He’s 15 + years our junior, Draco. Just because you might not like the outfit, doesn’t mean he doesn’t.” 

“I get it,” Draco nodded, “okay, I’ll take him out. You cook dinner. Be home at,” he paused and checked his watch, “5:15.” 

“Good.”

“Teddy, darling.” Draco called down the hallway, the 15 year old peeking out of his bedroom. “Sorry, Ted. We’re going out, you and me. Come on now.” 

Teddy stared at him a moment, “you can call me Teddy, dad.” He said before stepping back into his room. Draco smiled, happily, giving Harry a look. Harry chuckled and rolled his eyes. He always thought they were a little similar, at times.

About the teddy lupin hc with his teeth- yes! He would most likely mess up his teeth worse then they already were so Andromeda had to get him braces despite his protests and begging. After being straped to the chair and wearing them for like 2 years his tooth gap was still there SO HE DID ALL THAT FOR NOTHING. (biggest L he's ever taken)

Lilly wears lots of colorful and wacky earrings just like aunt luna. They probably trade pairs or something.

James sirius is really into cinema especially horror. He loves being scared and most of the time he just laughs at the jumpscares. I also feel like he has written entire analysis in his head on the things he's fixated on but doesn't have the energy to write them down so he just rants about his favorite stuff to his family.

Victoire was the one making moves on teddy not the other way around. This made bills distaste for teddy even worse cause he wasn't even the one doing anything 🙄

Albus's room is filled with action figures, stuffed animals, posters ect of all the stuff he enjoys. Like people always talk about how much of a loser scorpius is but not so much albus. Trust me though he goes to bed reading fanfiction and was most definitely "the weird kid" at school. Probably grew up watching markiplier and jacksepticeye.

Teddy gives me those vibes where every time something happens teddy just goes "don't worry, I know a guy" and proceeds to fix the problem.

Victoire is really close to her maternal grandpa because everyone on the weasley family had lost stuff to the war including her parents so her grandfather was 1 of the only people in her family that didn't have any tragedy on her birthday so he was one of the few people who celebrated it without any sadness about the day. Then later teddy did as well.

Albus likes to draw and several pages of his sketch book is dedicated to just scorpius.

So when it comes to scorpius's appearance I kinda wrestled with it because on one hand there's no way he's not attractive because his mother is Astoria. Not even draco too just Astoria is enough to make that kid divine looking but if he was super pretty then there's no way he wouldn't be asked out even if it was just for shallow reasons. So in my head he is pretty but looks like a corpse. He has eye bags, beauty marks all over his body he's pale and skinny too so he doesn't look human. Albus of course thinks he looks like a sculpture but others think he looks uncanny.

Teddy loved being in the woods/forest cause he loved running around and getting all that energy out. Probably met a old man named Charles who taught him how to fish and scavenge or something. Nobody knew teddy was being fr when he talked about Charles because Charles was probably some urban legend. He was being real though.

i agree with all of these lmfao. i feel like luna makes lily earrings for her birthday every year like a tradition. i also heavily fw assertive victoire— i like to think teddy had always been the flirty, confident one in his other relationships and victoire had been shyer in her other relationships but the roles are just reversed when they actually get together. and james being a horror movie freak is soooo real to me, he laughs at all the western films and only genuinely gets kicks out of asian horror movies. victoire with her maternal grandpa is so cute man, its canon to me now. and i have ALWAYS said this about teddy but he is the definition of “i know a guy.” he could get you any job, get you out of any situation ever, “everybody’s got a cousin who can hook you up with something” type. and charles bro 💀💀 yeah you’re so right nobody believed teddy when he said he mastered muay thai until he whipped out martial moves, or when he learnt tagalog when rooming with this old lady in the phillipines until he started rapping a song in it 😭 the only person who would believe him immediately with no questions asked is andromeda. hes so freaky, now he could tell people he was the first one to set foot on mars and everyone will be obligated to believe him.

1. D ends up with H before the battle at hogwarts. I remember Narcissa being with them when they basically handed draco over. I think they stay at grimmauld place in the beginning but they get separated (I might be confusing it for another fic). The most important detail is that D and H end up in a cottage owned by narcissa and followed by Voldy’s henchmen but the deatheaters can’t see the cottage so D and H are safe. I might have gotten the timing wrong and it might have been set right after the battle of hogwarts (I’m still not sure on this sorry) There’s also no graphic sex from what i remember. 2. Harry is a celebrity chef, and Draco tweets at him for dinner, and Harry said he'd save him a table. Draco shows up and they cook together as a sort of date. The one key thing I remember is that Harry had a past relationship with Justin Finch-Fletchley but Justin dumped him.

3. it was about Draco being an unspeakable and what comes to my mind is this specific scene about Draco with one of his teammates joking about his nickname (all of them has a star's name as code name), talking about the pole star, I think Draco was "Polaris" and she said he was "Vega", like the ancient polar star, I can't remember much more. Draco was happy that he isn't recognized as a death eater between his co-workers and they really appreciated him. Harry was an auror? And they had to work together? I'm not really sure

4. Harry is Draco’s secretary and Draco makes him wear a skirt to work and it’s one chapter and smutty. Top Draco.

5. post-war drrary fic where Harry and Draco lived in the Malfoy Manor and they were in an established relationship. Then Draco's behaviour started to change, he became mean, and Harry gave him an ultimatum, promising he won't put a foot in the Manor again if he leaves. Then Harry leaves and I think Draco was about to get married. But then Narcissa comes to Harry and explains that Lucius has put a curse on Draco to break their relationship. I specifically remember that she told Harry that Draco was musing how to apologise to him. Harry then came back to the Manor. I think it was on ao3 but I'm not sure

6. I am looking for a Hogwarts era fic. It's after the war. Harry is fed up with being treated like a hero so he enters into a friends with benefits arrangement with Draco. They are sneaking away to hook up and have a lot of hate sex and bond over their taste in music. I specifically remember them having sex to Kashmir by Led Zeppelin and Deftones. Towards the end they start to realize they have feelings for each other.

7. Hogwarts Eighth year, lupin(alive) is the dada teacher again, drarry are sort of in a relationship or at least there's something going on. The one scene I remember distinctly is they're chosen for a demonstration duel during dada and they take the bow and stance but then draco concedes in front of the whole class, which is kind of a big deal in magical duels-as hermione tells harry, and then lupin wants to talk to draco after class(?)

8. drarry multi-chapter fic i read on ao3 a bit ago. it was set around christmas/holidays, established relationship, harry has mental health problems and is distant so draco thinks he's cheating on him but he reveals that hes been going to a mind healer like secretly. also i think teddy is in it and they go ice skating with him? the fic is about like draco helping harry get his life back together and fixing their relationship.

9. it takes place in hogwarts and there’s a secret lgbtq club in the school. I think there were some side pairings too besides drarry.

I read this ages ago, dont remember what site but it was complete and mature content. title was like Griffendor <something>, Slythering <something> (i think) after school, harry is a pro quidditch player and draco is a magazine editor or something? One of them decides to write a book (draco?) and goes to the other for help with source material(?). We find out that they are divorced and have been court ordered to stay away from each other because of destructive fights. There was also some flashbacks where they like fed each other strawberries and one of them (harry?) told the other that the cost of the strawberry was marriage? And there was something about a pair of lockets they had from when they were married that they still wear but are hiding from each other?

11. i think it was a war au, draco was at grimmauld because reasons and he was helping the order with the potions, at one point he helps snape or remus because they were hurt? And he and harry had this thing or something, but he caught harry kissing one of the twins and he thought that harry wasn't interested, but he was just like practicing the kisses or something?

12. Looking for a fic I read some years ago in german, but I am pretty sure it was translated from english. It is about Draco helping Harry and his friends escape from Malfoy Manor in the seventh book and being captured by the Death Eaters. He gets thrown into a cell without any sensory stimulation, but gets rescued after the war. The fic deals with the consequences of that, I am not quite sure if he is at St. Mungos for some time, but he definitely gets close to Harry in his healing process. Sorry if this is too vague or if it turns out that the fic was originally in german.

If there was one major plot element that you could change in the original canon what would it be?

The Marauders' deaths. With the exception of James, I don't think any of the Marauders die in a way that's narratively suitable — or, to be more particular, they die in a way suitable for a narrative I don't like very much. James is an acceptable (though, obviously, tragic) death to me because it completes his arc: he's an obnoxious, arrogant bully who grows into a selfless soldier on the side of the light, and lays down his life as a final gesture of abnegation. It's not Proust, but it's good, right? His death represents a symbolic triumph over Voldemort because it's something Voldemort would never do.

None of the others make the same kind of sense for their subplots. Sirius dies at the Ministry because Harry fucks up and lets his abandonment issues override his judgment, and while that's a compelling moment for Harry — whose hamartia is a trauma-forged combination of hot-headedness and desperate fear of losing people — it's not for Sirius. Sirius's problem in Book 5 is that he's emotionally stunted by his years of imprisonment and refuses to grow up, because he's clinging to the life he thinks — rightly — he should have gotten to have. This is made painfully clear in the Department of Mysteries, wherein some of his last words to Harry are "Nice one, James!" He refuses to treat Harry like the child he is, and he keeps acting like he's this fun-uncle type, blowing off rules and pissing off Mom (Molly), because that's the dynamic he should have had with Harry if Lily and James had lived. Sirius doesn't want to be Harry's guardian and role model. He wants a brother and a nephew, and he's trying to force Harry to be both, because he's all he has left of that family. His death doesn't tie any of those threads; they're left dangling. That's a valid narrative move — every death cuts a story short, and you can't give everybody an arc — but I loved Sirius. Giving Harry the "grieving loss of a parent" arc that was originally meant for Ron (Arthur was the original Big Death of the OOTP, in JKR's drafts) also means that Ron spends a lot of Book 6 without anything to do, whereas Harry goes through what's essentially a more intense version of the grieving-and-recovery arc he did after Cedric's death.

Remus, on the other hand, is just — first off, a Mess, I agree with so few of the choices made with Remus in the later books, but let's say he's deep in the trauma, the grieving, and whatever living among werewolves as a spy does for your mental health. So he gets into this will-they-won't-they with Tonks, gets married, tries to abandon pregnant wife, then goes back and gets to be with his wife and son for about half a year before dying, with said wife, in battle. Okay. So like:

I think the Remus Weirdness in Book 7 is actually an attempt to close a plot hole, which is that the Horcrux Hunt happens completely without adult supervision, despite the fact that there are lots of adults the Golden Trio could and should ask for help. Harry's insistence that he doesn't want to risk anyone's life except for Ron and Hermione's is, while understandable as a character move, utterly ridiculous, because the other Order members are risking their lives anyway. One of the biggest holes is Remus and Tonks, who are (a) both already targets for Voldemort because of who they are, and so have nothing to lose, but also (b) both care for Harry on a personal level, and would never accept his reasons for pushing them away. So Teddy Lupin is conceived in order to bench Tonks, who's safely out of commission while pregnant. But that leaves Remus, who probably in fact would have super complicated torn-loyalty feelings about the situation, and who is scarred and traumatized and probably has enough abandonment issues to try and walk out, but — in my view — never resolves any of those things. He doesn't suddenly realize that he loves Tonks and wants to be with her, or feel a sense of duty to his son; when Harry's justly furious at Remus abandoning his kid in Harry's name, Remus gets pissy about it and goes "well, if you don't want my help, fine," and leaves. Which is, again, fine, a character flaw, it's childish, he's allowed to be, and he is, in fact, similar to Sirius and James — but it left a bad taste in my mouth, because that's one of the last conversations we get with Remus, and it's such an impoverished vision of his bonds with others. It doesn't delve deeply into why he loves Tonks or Harry, or the substance of his conflict between them; like always with the Marauders, he just invokes James, and Harry throws James's name right back at him, and it ends there.

And then he dies, so that baby Teddy Lupin can be an orphan, and we can do a parallel to baby Harry Potter. Even though we don't see Teddy Lupin on the page ever, so we have no idea what that comparison means, or how their experiences compliment or contrast one another, or literally anything more substantive than the series beginning and ending on the same event. Which: great. Okay. To quote a Roger Ebert review that I think about, on average, once every thirty-six hours:

"J.K. Rowling has learned from better novels that authors sometimes create narrative parallels, but she has not learned why."

Personally I feel a bit indifferent about the holidays; not that many good memories of them, and I’m used to work my way through Christmas (I love the vibes at work on Christmas). This is the first Christmas in over 10 years I’m not with the meemaws and peepaws at work and I don’t know what am I supposed to doooo. Probably read some tooth-rotting holiday fluff laced with some festive smut while downing some glögi, so here we go. I'm absolutely weak for the Christmas at the Burrow-trope, and this little story definitely hits all the right boxes. It's warm, adorable, cute, everything you need and more.

This was such a fun little fic. The dynamics between Harry and the Slytherins were amazing, and the stocking fiasco was just too adorable. And there's just something about the holidays in Hogwarts for me personally. Very sweet and endearing.

This is a series of fics based on prompts given to me on Tumblr, one for each night of Hanukkah! The prompts aren't all and don't have to be related to Hanukkah and/or Judaism; some are and some aren't.

This is the perfect series to read at bedtime, having some fuzzy socks on, a warm blanket up to your ears and snow falling silently outside. Like said in the description, all of the little fics are not festive but I think the big picture gives all the holiday vibes I'm craving for.

I felt actual physical pain reading this, watching the years go by and Christmases to pass. But it was a good pain, the kind I crave for especially at this time of year. Slowest of slow burns, endearing, touching and funny friends to lovers holiday excursion. Loved this.

How to Handle Hannukah by Blowfish_Diaries ❄️ 10,445 words

Harry and Draco have decided to cohabitate. And to throw a Hannukah party. Enter latkes, spreadsheets, and Pansy beating everyone at dreidel. This is a fluffy, domestic fic to celebrate the holiday season and add another chapter to the "How to Handle a Matzo Ball Soup Emergency" series.

This is a sequel to the amazing "How to Handle a Matzo Ball Soup Emergency" and one of my absolute favorites along with the first part. I highly recommend to read the first part, but I think this works as a standalone aswell. It's incredibly well-written with fluff to die for and some class a smut, everything you need for the holiday season, even though today the 15th of December I’m posting this is the last day of Hanukkah. A definite must-read along with the first part.

Now hold up. Love Actually is one of my favorite movies and oh how I love this fic. Adorable and cute packed with holiday vibes.

I’m swooning over this fic. It has the perfect ratio of angst, fluff, hurt, comfort, smut and holiday vibes. It made me laugh, it made me cry. It's so incredibly lovely and definitely a must-read every holiday season.

What got to me most in this fic was that little part in the beginning about Harry's trip to London as a kid with Petunia. It really punched me in the gut and got me tearing up. The whole story was sweet and Harry's thoughts and feelings were written out so beautifully.

I had spent most of my life in the unknown. Not knowing about my parents. Not knowing why weird things were always happening around me. Not knowing why nobody wanted me around.

Things quickly changed when an owl suddenly appeared in front of my window, a letter in its beak. I was not sure if it answered a lot of question or brought even more upon me. But it definitely was a changing point in my life.

Being a witch was the best thing that had ever happened to me.

Instead of being stuck in my orphanage, I was spending most of my time at Hogwarts now. Actually all the time except summer break.

To my surprise I had even managed to find friends. Turns out witches and wizards are naturally weird and somehow I was not standing out anymore.

Finally my life was not completely defined by my lack of parents. There were even people who understood my situation as they had grown up as orphans as well or had been bullied or been an outcast.

For once I had not wanted anything to change at all. But life never played out the way I wanted it to be.

My life turned upside down once again in my fifth year at Hogwarts, the time I had met my dad, Remus Lupin for the first time as he had become our teacher for the year.

It had been a challenging situation for both of us, it still was. He had not known about me. We had found out thanks to Dumbledore who appeared to know absolutely everything, not stopping at school borders.

So from that day on Remus had actually tried his best to get to know me, to build a relationship. It was obvious to me that he was feeling guilty for not taking care of me.

Meanwhile I was having a hard time adjusting. On the one hand I was feeling the whole range of emotions, including anger, hurt and disappointment for him not being there. On the other hand I was aware that it was not his fault either.

Finding out that he was a werewolf had been even more of a shock. But slowly yet steadily we had bonded over the smallest things.

He would tell me about mom and their time together. And when I assured him that I was fine with it, he began talking about Tonks.

I had visited them over the summer holidays as well. Actually it was easier for me to interact with Tonks. I could not help but love her and honestly it was scaring me because she had started shifting into a mother figure for me.

With Remus it was a different story. There were moments we were getting along so well that I would forget about my childhood he had missed out. But then it would all come crashing back down at me and swallow me whole.

Now that I was grown-up, living in my own apartment and finally not being dependent on other people to take me in, it was slowly getting easier to let Remus close. Of course, I was still scared to lose him again, that he would leave me. But at least I knew that the rest of my life would stay the same it was right now.

Sometimes Remus and Tonks would come over to cook and eat dinner together. Or I would visit them for a movie night.

The two of them had even asked me to become Teddy's godmother which I had nervously yet excitedly accepted.

But that did not stop me from wondering when Remus suddenly showed up on my doorstep without any warning.

“Hey, come in”, I offered.

He did not hesitate to do so, taking off his shoes and jacket in the process.

“You didn't tell me you were coming. Is everything okay? You look like you've seen a ghost. Well, not literally. Just a muggle saying”, I pointed out.

Without answering he slipped onto my couch.

I decided to make him a cup of tea first. Apparently he was too upset to talk.

He shot me a short smile as I placed the cup in front of him.

Then I sat down next to him, contemplating what to do.

To my relief Remus started talking on his own: “What if I passed it down? What if Teddy becomes like me? I can't do this, (f/n).”

“You mean being a werewolf?”, I reassured.

“Yes! It won't take long until his birth. I don't think I can deal with that. It would be all my fault”, he proposed.

“So what? You wanna run away?”, I questioned.

The look on his face said it all. I had not even meant it seriously. How could he even consider that?

“You're kidding, right? Remus, he's your son! He needs you”, I declared.

“Like you're my daughter? Come on, (f/n)! We both know that I'm a shitty dad. You still calling me Remus is the best example for that”, he proclaimed.

“No, it's not! I was fifteen when we first met. Of course, I can't just start calling you dad. My life without you has been longer than my life with you. Don't do that to Teddy!”

“I just think that he would be better off without me. Consider it like that … without me he wouldn't be at risk to be a werewolf right from his birth. Without me you probably would have had a dad from early on”, he considered.

“I thought you were the smart one”, I remarked.

“That's not fair”, he complained.

“I know I never told you. But back at the orphanage the other kids were bullying me for my magic. I accidentally pushed water buckets over, made their ball fly high up into the sky, made pine cones fall onto their heads. Of course, nobody believed me that I had not done it on purpose. The adults were punishing me for it. The other kids were always excluding me or even harassing me. It was the same at school. Though there I was bullied because nobody ever came to parents day. Because my lunch wasn't anything fancy but only what the orphanage could afford. I was alone pretty much all the time”, I confessed.

“(f/n), I'm so sorry”, Remus apologized.

“It's not your fault. Fault isn't even the reason I'm telling you this. What I wanna say is … no matter how hard it is for us to strengthen our relationship, my life has changed for the better since you and Tonks are in it. I'm sure it will be the same for Teddy. Don't give up. If you managed to deal with our situation, then you'll definitely find a way to deal with Teddy. Werewolf or not.”

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

I don't know that I would, tbh. I know a lot of people like AUs and all that, it's just not really my thing. Everything that makes Snape who he is exists in the world he was written in. I can't really think of anything that would make me, personally, want to pull him out of his world and put him into another, because it feels like a lot of work to then justify who he is and why, and that doesn't particularly appeal to me. Sorry!

9. Could you be roommates with this character?

We would murder each other within a week.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

I really liked Lupin when I first read PoA. He seemed like the first teacher we met who really cared about the students and engaged them instead of lectured at them. He was fun and insightful and knowledgable and charismatic. I really liked all these things about him. In retrospect (ie. after I finished the book, and especially after reading the rest) I have a hard time still seeing him this way. He felt disappointing in a number of ways, though I also think the vulnerabilities and shortcomings he has make him compelling.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

That scene in Deathly Hallows where he shows up at Grimmauld Place. It felt kind of out of character for him to want to go with the trio and abandon his family, but it felt really out of character for him to be violent with Harry in an argument. He also never apologizes for it or makes peace with Harry. Something about it always felt off to me, and like the author was projecting something, because suddenly the Lupin we knew disappeared, and it wasn't that the wolf in him came out either, he just suddenly became unexpectedly and uncharacteristically violent? But then I have a lot of trouble separating Rowling's (boo, hiss) seemingly unprocessed relationship with abuse from moments like these. I specifically flagged the unexpectedly volatile behavior and the non-apology followed by Lupin's next meeting with Harry, when he shows up at Shell Cottage to announce Teddy's birth, where a big life event is used to smooth over and ignore a transgression in favor of avoidant behavior.

Sirius survives OotP but for whatever reason he and Remus break up. he’s absolutely devastated, even more so when Remus marries Tonks. Remus dies in the battle, Sirius eventually moves on with his life, and at some point strikes a thing up with Remus’s now much older and much hotter son Teddy. it’s all going great, he hasn’t been this happy or well fucked in decades, and really he wouldn’t change a thing. except then Remus turns up, somehow back from the dead, desperate to find Sirius - only to find he’s fucking his son. DISCUSS

Does Tonks die in the battle? If not, I can see Remus getting back together with her - not that he really wants to! But he doesn't feel like he has any other choice, you know? His ex is taken, and not only that, apparently blissfully so.

As for Sirius, I think there would be a LOT of emotions. Joy, of course, but also a lot of anger (how could Remus die? how could he have married Tonks in the first place? etc), and old grief bubbling to the surface, and idk, a lot of things I can't even comprehend! But he IS happy with Teddy, they have a great time together and they also care about each other a lot. So I don't think much would change, except now it's 10000% more awkward when Sirius goes over to the Lupins for Sunday night dinner.

Now, if Tonks is dead? Remus starts fucking Harry in revenge 😂

Remus turned around slowly, “I don’t know that I must be, but yeah—” He froze mid-sentence when he saw the person who’d addressed him. He was beautiful. Beautiful didn’t cover it really, but Remus couldn’t find any other words to describe him. He was struggling to find any words at all. “Remus Lupin.” He managed eventually, holding out his hand.

The other man shook his hand firmly before chuckling. “I’m Sirius, I’m Harry’s guardian. Godfather. Something.”

Remus nodded slowly. Well, that sounded complicated. “Teddy hasn’t stopped talking about Harry all week. I think they’ll be friends for life if he has any say in it.”

“That’s so good to hear. I was so anxious about him starting a new school in the middle of the year.” Sirius smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

“You’re not local?” Remus asked, “You don’t sound local, to be fair. That was probably a stupid question.”

“No, we lived in Brighton before. Then I got offered a job here and as much as I didn’t want to tear the kid away from everything he knew, I couldn’t turn it down. After his parents—” Sirius frowned, “Sorry, I’m not trying to trauma dump on you or anything.”

Remus reached out and touched his arm, “I didn’t think you were. For what it’s worth if Teddy’s non-stop Harry commentary is even half accurate, he seems to be fitting in just fine and he has lots of friends.” Sirius nodded, frowning slightly, “Do you?”

“Do I, what?”

“Have friends?” Remus could feel his cheeks growing pink at such a strange question. “Sorry that’s—”

“Uh, not really? It’s complicated, I—” Sirius chewed on his lip for a second. “My best friend and his wife, Harry’s parents were killed by our other friend last year. So…”

“Holy shit.” Remus hissed, “I’m so sorry.”

Sirius shrugged willing himself not to cry in front of Remus, “Thanks? I guess? It’s been a strange time.”

“Well, Teddy and I have a lot of board games if you fancy coming round sometime?” Remus berated himself internally. Board games? Really?

“Do you have Monopoly?” Sirius looked up at him.

“We have five different monopolies.” He chuckled, “Teddy can only play the junior version now, but one day I’ll get him playing the proper ones. Honestly, people buy him board games all the time, and the poor kid only has me to play them with, so you’d be doing Teddy a favour really.”

“Well, Teddy has been very kind to Harry.” Sirius smiled, it was a genuine smile. “So, I think we’d like that. Can I give you my number?”
