wanted to say I appreciate your nuanced takes on MW and especially Curly. i don't get the claim that the fandom is full of Curly apologists when majority (esp yt and tiktok) say he's worse than Jimmy. Yes there's commentary about bro culture defending people, he def messed up in trying to placate Jimmy (tbh "we'll fix this" sounded more like trying to keep someone prone to outbursts like Jim calm and not hurt Anya/himself) but I don't think he did nothing to help Anya, since she continued to confide in him and he had less than a week to resolve it before the crash (I also don't get everyone saying he knew for ages when it seems like Anya told him that same week). I get Jimmy's a pos but saying stuff like Curly should've known he'd crash the ship or that Jim had a criminal record he ignored, reducing them to obviously horrible villain and willfully ignorant sidekick feels like a disservice to the game. If your best friend turned out to be horrible, what would you do in a confined space in the span of a few days to respond? I'd say some of the horror comes from trying to do good but ultimately failing, Curly's state after the crash is meant to be tragic horror not revenge/punishment
Thank you and this is what I want to get across.
A lot of information we have to supplement when it comes to how long things have been happening on this current ship. I think people try to add on to the horror and negligence by making things more obvious so it can feel like it was easier to avoid when, true to life, its not. Jimmy clearly didn't deserve or appreciate what Curly did for him in getting him the job, but do you think if Jimmy was that big of a menace on Earth he would've given him a position where he could have that level of power over people's lives? There's something in the fact he specifically chose to pick a position so close to himself where he could watch Jimmy.
I hate the bro code argument because that is a whole can of worms people really don't get. That sort of mentality is born from the general respect and preference of male matter over female ones. Curly is clearly not that guy, he is absent minded about the issue and inadvertently dismissive but he clearly believes Anya, he just can't understand what she's going through. It's an onslaught of information that no one really reacts right to. Additonally, the entire discussion of her assualt plays to heavy into the idea that there is fault outside of the perpertratior when it comes to SA. It's too close if she only did this or if Curly had protected her better but the fact of the matter is Jimmy did what he did. He did it before any of the conversations with Anya about it and it's why her behavior seemed to change so drastically in those last two days.
He has other conflicting thought and while his role as a Captain should've taken over, people act like it's not a very human thing to have such a toxic presence cloud your judgement. It is never easy to separate friend from coworker once that connection is formed, you want to help them, especially if they were friend first and for a long while like in this case. It's not right, but people act like it would be easy when the game clearly points out that no choice is easy to make, especially when you have to make it for more than one person. You have the weigh the consequences, look at all the options and make a plan. People can headcanon and decide how long things where happening, but if we look at what we were presented through the characters eyes, the only person given time to do that was Jimmy.
He waited two months after the crash to appoint himself Captain. Every time a problem was brought up he immediately took action and refused to sit on it and find a better solution. I think it's important to look at the warped way Jimmy takes initiative where Curly didn't as it works as a good contrast of why you don't just run in to "fix" things. The quickest and easiest option may not be the safest or most beneficial. I think some thoughts on the game suffer from the black and white thinking the game doesn't operate on along with us being voyeurs. We see what exactly led to what but the characters don't. They don't have the hindsight and foresight we do and even ours is scrambled by the non-linear story telling.
Like it's hard to talk abuou those grey zones without sounding like an apologist because you're explaining why taking responsibility isn't easy. It's not and it's weird to act like it would be in a scenerio that led up to the events of the game knowing what we know. We see all these characters in such isolated moments with various things before, in between, after and even during we aren't privy too. The idea that Jimmy is worse than Curly heavily banks on the words Jimmy was saying to Jimmy before he crashed the ship. That whatever happened on the ship was his responsibility to bare, which is true due to his position. But, are they not still not responsible for taking the actions Curly then must bare?
Like i feel like people think that these are situation that become easier with age or when you are in a postion of authority and they aren't. You don't lose your biases or gain some sudden knowledge that makes it easier. It just becomes more tiring as you keep dealing with it. I would be first in line to say Curly fucked up and should've done more but the idea he knew how bad it could get or he really saw the worst in the people around him and ignored it pretty much ignores a huge aspect of his character and the game.
#i do believe Anya was a victum to Jimmy more than once before the crash but the game plays wit the sort of fear of waiting and stagnation#i believe the reason she decided to tell him was becasuse she finally broke down and tested to see if she was pregnant after one too many#signs and its why she went to hide the gun because she knew now that there was proof of what Jimmy did and was he would do anything to#cover it up and while she also didn't want the baby there was no sure fire way to safely induce a miscarriage or abortion cause shes smart#enough to know that hence her reading the illusion of choice and taking measures to protect herself#but in the hypothetical it was a one time occurence I think Jimmy would act like one single mistake shouldn't define him and Anya thinks#that if she did something sooner or said something sooner than she or Curly could've stopped all of it but that the hard thing taking actio#its so hard to be preventative to a person like they also have the autonomy to do things and no one on the ship is okay with actively takin#that away outside of Jimmy that its just a delicate issue and people act like it was a conscious choice not to help when he just helped#wrong he did wrong by not immediately punishing Jimmy but at the same time did he even fully get it yet? Jimmy immediately got into his hea#after like the sound design right before he confront him is telling like every track sort of gives you the feeling of the characters where#we cant see their thoughts because again the only two characters pov we get are Jimmy's and Curly's and even then we only get Curly's thru#the responsibilites he has to take like he is always tasked with something because thats his role but we rarely see him do something off hi#own volition cause hes a metaphorical cog in many of the machines the games comments on but he's not actively pulling a switch#also i think people latch on to the we can both be heros things too much when analyzing Curly because Curly very much is not happy being th#leader and current “hero” of the Tulpar he just wants out in a way that doesn't hurt and while he is still responsible for not doing more#the idea he could've easily nipped this in the butt acts like Jimmy was not a beast of his own and that he made Jimmy into the person he wa#vs the fact that Jimmy is a person on his own right that makes these choices others are forced to take responsibility for when he simply c#couldve not done evil shit like at the end of the day Curly is not perfect but not nearly or remotely as bad as Jimmy because for that hed#have to not care hed have to not have tried hed have to not try to take responsibility and he did just not in the right way but thats#subjective to the person and you can only realize you did fuck up after the results are before you and its tragic like this game is a#a tragedy no matter how you try and spin it. There's lessosn to be learnt but at the end of the day it telling the worst moments of peoples#lives and the certain inevitabilities that come with it#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#curly mouthwashing#captain curly#nurse anya#anya mouthwashing#jimmy mouthwashing

I can't believe trump is winning the elections...
#like... for real?#I was reading about a woman pregnant with twins in texas#who needed a selective reduction i.e. to abort one twin#because he wasn't going to survive#and the doctors went 'no we can't do that'#which meant they would ALL die. both twins and their mom#she managed to get the abortion done out of texas but like#how insane is this??#it drives me mad#I'm worried about the anti-abortion stance spreading#I mean it's not like it's not already there in europe#see Ireland until recently. see Italy#where abortion is legal on paper but doctors can still refuse to perform it#on religious grounds#which is INSANE. insane#omg I was discussing it with my aunt ages ago and I was like#they shouldn't have that option#and she went 'oh so you think doctors should be forced to perform abortions'#NO I think if you don't want to perform abortions don't become a fucking gyno?? maybe??#did they point a gun to their head?? aren't there lots of other specialties they could've gone for??#like what am I missing here. help#it's not even about religion though for most which makes it even more infuriating#oh I went off on a tangent here. sorry#reproductive rights#us politics#donald trump

I think "whatever a woman chooses to do is feminist on account of the fact that she's a woman" did awful things for the movement. I really do.
#for one being a woman does not equate to being a feminist#there's a lot of unlearning and deprogramming that goes into being a feminist bc we really do#live in a patriarchal society. like i don't think you guys understand it's not just a buzzword the world really#is androcentric. so it's like is every choice really inherently feminist bc a woman made it?#is it feminist to go through with an unwanted pregnancy bc the woman chose so (she had no access to safe abortion)#is it feminist to choose prostitution (she's an eastern european woman who signed a contract in german not knowing#prostitution was going to be in the requirements because she was assured of a good job and doesn't speak the language)#is it feminist to choose to spend $$$ and time on often painful beauty rituals (she feels like she is not presentable without having done#them and feels self-conscious and distracted as a result)#like think with your brain a little deeper sometimes and ask yourself where this choice comes from#and ask yourself how come so little men choose the same if your choice is so empowering and awesome#because remember kids! if something in this world is truly empowering - men will make it a male-dominated area soon#it happened to IT already and now suddenly it's considered women are incapable of it as if women weren't pioneers in the field

so i've been catching up on call the midwife and finally watched the latest episode (s14e4), and this line caught my eye:
"We journey in faith. We must permit all doubt, for it is only through doubt that we can find its opposite."
which naturally made me think of conclave, since that also talks a lot about doubt and faith/certainty - namely two particular quotes:
"Let me tell you there is one sin I have come to fear above all others. Certainty. Certainty is the great enemy of unity. Certainty is the deadly enemy of tolerance. [...] Our faith is a living thing precisely because it walks hand-in-hand with doubt. If there was only certainty and no doubt, there would be no mystery. And therefore no need for faith."
and obviously CTM has this quote coming from sister julienne, an anglican nun, whereas conclave is catholic. but i'm just kinda fascinated by how they're two diametrically opposed quotes despite their similarities. cardinal lawrence views doubt as the foundation for faith and thus the two are the same, whereas sister julienne sees it as a way to find faith (but not the same). it's especially interesting since conclave is dealing with a church that is torn btwn change and stasis, whereas call the midwife's nuns are dealing with a changing world that is increasingly uncomfortable (and rightly so) about the role of religion in healthcare.
idk if sister julienne's view is typical to anglicanism, but as an atheist who was raised catholic, i've gotta say that i prefer cardinal lawrence's view of faith and doubt. it just seems... so much more accepting of human psychology.
#call the midwife#conclave#not ragging on sister julienne it's consistent w what she's said in the past i just have thoughts on it#then again i find myself not entirely comfortable w how ctm is treating religion in the current season#like ok i get why everyone is railing against the board of health not wanting the nuns to be involved with healthcare#but maybe this is me being too half-irish but i find it bizarre that none of the secular nurses are even willing to go#'well i understand their point bc can you promise your faith won't interfere with how you treat patients asking for abortions/contraception#*especially* since call the midwife has literally done plotlines about this very issue before#sure none of the nurses are without their biases but the nuns are literally doing this as part of their religious life#yes the church of england is the state religion but i just wish ctm would dig a bit deeper on that#it feels like it's falling into the romanticisation ctm has for certain aspects of the period without really interrogating it#like they largely did in earlier seasons

Oh my God a fucking " anti-transandrophobia truther" perisex fuck wrote word for word, in a massive fucking post " I wonder if intersex people know being Intersex affects your gender" (NO SHIT???)
And!
" I'm pretty sure all the afab/cafab (coercive meaning ya know ... GENITAL MUTILATION OF INTERSEX BABIES FORCING THEM INTO THE AFAB IDENTITY. The whole camab/cafab thing was stolen from the intersex community.) intersex people who claim the transfem title don't actually have transfem experiences"(regardless of the kind of the type of intersexuality they are?? You are just outting yourself as someone totally fucking blind to actual intersex experiences.)and! " They need their own term because they don't 'fit'". They tried to dress up the offensive bigoted nonsense they just spewed by trying to make it sound like they had our best interests at heart and "shouldn't be forced into using perisex language".... You are litterally trying to push intersex people you don't like out of our terminology to other them .... This literally reeks of literal terf rhetoric " most intersex lean one way and therefore shove them under that label" like...
Ur both intersexist freaks and bigots just in different ways. Imagine trying to claim you care about intersex people then try to determine our labels for us and push us in the way you think we should go regardless of our actual fucking lived experiences because you don't like sharing the transfem community with people who've experienced both transmysogny and transmascphobia. Not to even mention the fact the last time people tried to make a term to talk about their experiences, you've not shut up about it in years and called it a mens rights movement to try and silence an entire fucking portion of the trans community so you don't have to care about them. You literally fucking said " trans men experience both transphobia and mysogny but not at the same time (we do????) but trans women do" ok and ur blind to Transmasc issues because you think that nonsense and we are the same as cis men. Ur blind to our issues in the way you accuse us of being blind to your issues but only expect us to shut up and listen.
Anyway, denying that trans men can't face their own issues while also ignoring any trans man who disagrees with you and then attempting to delegitimize all intersex people who look you dead in the face in the transfem and Transmasc playing fields and tell you ur wrong...
Bro just say you hate Transmascs and anyone who might be slightly aligned with them and go home you intersexist piece of shit.
Also the whole " stop calling anti-transandrophobia truthers baddels! That's something specific"
My brother in CHRIST, THEY ARE LITTERALLY UNIRONICALLY IN THE USERNAMES OF THE PEOPLE YOU REBLOG FROM. BULLSHIT.
Anyway the fact y'all are all fucking white trans women and CONSTANTLY bring up black and indigenous people's experiences with gender while also being unironic baddels aka a horrifically abusive to trans men (including rape) and racist ASF movement within your community tells me everything i need to know as a native american two spirit intersex person with no "lean" whose experienced transmysogny and transandrophobia.
This is why they don't trust you motherfuckers, you got no class, just entitlement and weak ass attempts at silencing people you already hate and a weird trauma fetish for black and indigenous people. There is over lap between the transfem experiences and bipoc experiences but there is also an overlap between Transmasc and bipoc experiences, nonbinary and bipoc, like almost everyone can relate to our shit, ur not special 😭 leave us alone and don't use our oppression to try and legitimize your fundamentally transphobic views.
#levi speaks#cant make this shit up#transandrophobia#transandrophobia truther#intersexist#perisexist#perisexism#anti intersex#baddel#baddels#transmysogyny#transmisogny#/do intersex people know ur gender can be weird because your intersex?! 😯/ is the sky blue???#its got /do mexicans know about texmex?/ energy like yeah we do why are you infantilizing us#not just that but trying to delegitimize the identities and experiences of intersex people you deem /too close/ to afab#like just say you hate afab people and go home with your alt right white cis bf who hides your identity from his family#go back to /cancelling out/ your cis bf's vote 😮💨 we are gonna actually focus on getting shit done#go back to ignoring that abortion is a trans issue and exclusively focusing on bathroom bans and acting like trans men#feel safe in men's restrooms cause they dont lol#ive watched terrified traumatized passing trans men read a room and flee into the women's bathroom and still get harassed by terfs#out here claiming terfs treat trans men better#THEY WRITE 900 WORD CONVERSION RAPE FANFIC ABOUT US#they call for our deaths the same way they call for yoursel#sitting there making shit up about how transmascs will have terf followers and transfems wont#ok just say you think alll afab people are terf dyke hairy ugly feminists and go back to calling cis women fish fuck off lol#they litterally scream at transmascs who feel more allyship with cis butches than cis men then cuddle up to raciat white gays#ok boo sure boo you got it boo 😂😂😂#like im a trans woman i know most of us armt like these trash ladies but they specific have this sort look down their nose looks#and sincerely think they as het white trans women with cis bfs are the most oppressed demographic#and i just have to sit over here and belly laugh hun you are the cishet white man of the trans community and ur not even a man

Bringing Insane Discourse that was caused by reddit showing me for some godforsaken reason posts of the helluvaboss sub and being bombarded by the "is the imp girl gonna abort" discourse but like. I do not think a pregnancy plot is the end-all of a female character if done well you are all just used to how sitcoms and shipfics treat babies
#you can do extremely interesting things with motherhood and how it correlates to characters#and while it is often not done well (nor do i expect in this particular case to be done properly) going immediately to#'fem character has fallen pregnant billions must die' is a bit silly#[now gonna be a bit more salty but also i too am someone who doesnt want children ever so i can shoot my shot#but also i find people who are like 'i want her to abort because i am childfree and want more childfree characters' inherently silly#because like 1) not everything needs to cater to your personal tastes and like it is kinda. entitled to demand this storyline#to not be included because it makes *you* uncomfortable and 2) like for many of them childfree characters#does not mean 'character doesnt have children' it means 'character must do a speech where they say they do not want children'#which again. i *can* understand the need to representation but losing your shit at pregnancy storylines aint it#and is probably a sign you should consume more media#(regardless of the fact that most pregnancy storylines highkey suck)

#just thinking about that day a couple years ago when i and a bunch of organizers interrupted a dem party event#they were out there celebrating their ticket the day after abortion got banned in ohio#they were dragging out ANTI CHOICE DEMOCRATS onto the stage#so we interrupted the fucking bullshit#and i just remember the VITRIOL. that we got for that.#i remember the shit people said to us. and to me individually later#wonder how some of them feel now as the dem party continues to ignore large swaths of those it claims to represent#the dem party is a machine and it is immoral and unjust.#voting a dem to fight a dem is one thing. voting a dem for them to 'save us' ???? nah.#and hey i used to think that politics could be a force for good i used to really believe that shit#but it isnt. elected office in this system is never a force for good.#it is either a force for evil or a force of inevitable neutrality when they cant push their agendas and just stand still#anyways idk#it's just interesting reflecting.#and im glad that ive left that behind atp. done w dem party anything. done w direct electoral politics#that shit isnt worth our time or effort or pain or tears or sweat

really fucking disgusted by how easily some people will put their morals and empathy aside to “defend their fave”
#anyone who knows me knows i'll hardly ever speak out about anything 1D fandom related on main bc i really couldn't care less about most shit#but this is just BEYOND like#when your reaction to a young woman talking about how she was forced to get an abortion (and had to go by herself)#is ‘oh she’s trying to ruin his career! he’s done nothing to deserve this!’ you’re absolutely rotten to the core#and i’ve seen SEVERAL people worried about his ‘reputation’#y’all are sick for real

Well, I hope the pro-lifers and the U.S. gov is happy. Cause now pregnant women (who decided to keep their child) and are having pregnancy emergencies, like ectopic pregnancies, blood clots and preeclampsia, placenta complications and decay, birth/labor complications, etc. are being refused treatment to help them survive. Literally even women who are in ORGAN FAILURE are being turned away by hospitals and doctors and are being refused treatment due to abortion laws, or if not outright refused, they’re being put at the bottom of triage. These women who are dying or at risk of dying, are being denied survival for themselves and even possibly their child, because if a mother dies, it’s likely the fetus isn’t gonna have an easy time either. That’s super “pro-life” of these people. So “pro-life” that they’re okay with a woman dying because she tried to have a child and her body couldn’t keep up with the physical demands. When will these dumb fucks realize that it was never and will never just be about the “morals” of birth control. It doesn’t just involve a woman may wanna terminate an unplanned pregnancy, it’s hurting the women who do want to have children too. And if someone can’t bring themselves to agree with pregnancy termination, the least they can do is wake up and realize this is bigger than birth control. It’s literally life or death of full grown women. It’s life or death for your sisters, your mothers, your wives, or even yourself if you’re a woman who’s a pro-life. And these people are dying, literally dying. All because idiots would rather have both mother and child die, than just save the woman who has an actual life.
#omfg this makes me so angry#bc I already knew women were being denied treatment for ectopic pregnancies or were being treated but have been legally punished afterwards#which is enraging enough on its own#but now it’s extending even further into every area of pregnancy care#and not only that but bc they’ve done away with abortion#certain states are trying to get rid of other health care laws#specifically one where if the law is over turned#hospitals/doctors can deny a patient due to finances no matter how severe their condition#like emergency rooms can choose to not treat someone if they think they’re too poor to pay afterwards#like imagine someone getting in a car accident or having a heart attack and the ER won’t treat them bc they have a low SES#that’s what the abortion ban has opened the door too#this is fucking crazy#I hate this country so much#it’s so fucking corrupted#abortion

see I don't think the first transmasc absent father post is nearly as funny as the first trans woman abortion and it annoys me to see people in the notes of the abortion post saying it is 🙄
#not to be too serious but having an abortion is not the same as neglecting children#also i don't like it when people say man's joke is as funny as a woman's#or god forbid funnier#but i do think it's funny to look at the layers here's a woman poking fun at how women carry the burden of reproduction#and how the more empowering and gender affirming act is having an abortion rather than carrying a pregnancy#and here's a guy looking forward to doing the same thing men have done for centuries and which leaves the burden of childrearing up to wome#🫶#anyway i hope everyone who wants an abortion gets it even if it's just for funsies

Oh yeah baby, it’s time for the unhinged, unscheduled and unstructured Ylthin rambles, today’s topic: loose thoughts on the overall structure of “Horus Rising” (based on my increasingly more faded memories so forgive me for any inaccuracies) and how it contrasts the first few chapters of “Flight of the Eisenstein”.
*cough*
So, in no particular order, and jumping around subjects a bit...
Remembrancers. I know you probably don’t care about them because they’re either annoying, forgettable, blatant writer self-inserts so that Graham McNeill can ogle some fictional women, or have the misfortune of competing for attention with Astartes and Primarchs, but... they are so goddamn important to the story structure, characterization and theming in “Horus Rising”. They are sheltered civilians and bohema-roleplayers fed mountains of propaganda before getting shipped off to create more propaganda about “our brave boys”... and they get reality-checked on multiple levels.
They expect glorious, refined, “peak of humanity” warriors - they get barracks filled with what’s at best scaled-up teenagers, and at worst actively hostile war machines. The Astartes typically dismiss them, avoid them, treat them as a nuisance - which is why someone like Mersadie or Ignace having direct access to Garviel Loken is such a big deal for both sides. They get to talk to a company Captain and Mournival member - and he doesn’t shun them. He’s actually a little sympathetic to them even if he doesn’t quite understand them. That sets him up to be a “good guy” type - an image that is then viciously (and forgive me for using a word so abused it’s lost all meaning) subverted, because...
Whisperheads. The Remembrancers perhaps expect the scattered strands of humanity to kneel before the majesty of the Great Crusade, then rise into a glorious new future - and then they see the reality of ruined cities filled with hostile locals and keeps lined up with mangled bodies. And remember - Luna Wolves don’t particularly revel in violence, they specialize in fast, precise assaults to decapitate the enemy. The action at Whisperheads isn’t a malicious slaughter. It’s an execution, a burst of gruesome yet detached violence, and its aftermath shocks the Remembrancers even before the supernatural gets involved. It has what may be one of my favourite moments in 40K novels - Loken calmly, yet callously dismissing a grievously injured soldier’s pleas for spiritual solace by calling them “superstition”, then mercy-killing him through a decapitation. This is our “hero”. This is a man we’ve seen cheering and fraternizing with his battle-brothers like a middle-school kid. This is a man considered to be a good leader, respected and liked by his men. This is one of the kinder, more mortal-friendly Astartes.
And then there are the others. Abaddon, who can be choleric and brash, but not a blood-addled fool or a sadist, whom we see frolicking with the rest of the Mournival and trying to ease Loken after the Whisperheads - who then gets into a vicious argument with his own Primarch, to the point of driving usually calm and fatherly Horus to throw his wine glass, command him out of the room, threaten demotion and only consider showing mercy if his First Captain comes back groveling and begging for it. All of it over Horus’ refusal to conduct a direct military action against the Interex clashing with Abaddon’s warmongering attitude and disdain for the “deviant” civilization. Torgaddon, the king of witty retorts and master of dad jokes, an “older friend” type to Loken - and yet you don’t see him fraternizing with the Remembrancers. Wish I could say something more about Aximand - but his silence and general withdrawal is also somewhat telling. You see their human side, yet they stay away from mortal humans and keep to their insular little coven of warrior-brothers instead.
“Horus Rising” succeeds at making its Astartes human-yet-dehumanized by having them interact with - or avoid - mortals, and all of it plays into the further themes - the intended nuance and tragedy across the loyalist-traitor divide. The doubt over the veracity of Imperium’s stated goal. The insidious nature of propaganda, the inherently repressive nature of this authoritarian state. The fallen idol of gold we see in 42nd millennium was standing on feet of clay from the very beginning, and the book isn’t subtle about it. Doesn’t have to be - nuance and subtlety aren’t inseparable - and shouldn’t be because the 40K fanbase is full of people like me, who need to be whacked over the head to understand something, and also people who wouldn’t get the memo even if it gave them a wedgie and stole their lunch money, like some of BL’s own writers.
I’ll spare you the extended screaming match over “False Gods” killing all nuance, assassinating half the cast (for now figuratively) and taking a massive step towards an oversimplified “good Imperium vs. evil Chaos” storyline that misses the entire goddamn point and actively makes the whole series less entertaining. I’ll also fast-forward over “Galaxy in Flames” struggling to pick up the pieces as it has to rush forward and cover a major event without having the same amount of time and word count to flesh out some of the key players in it, and deepening or firmly rooting in the problems of the previous two books as a result. We’re now at “Flight of the Eisenstein” scrambling to flesh out Death Guard the way “Horus Rising” fleshed out Luna Wolves.
And I’m just 4 chapters in, about 70 pages out of 280-ish (discounting all the superfluous marketing/publisher crap inflating the pagecount of BL novels). Things could change. I could be wrong and full of shit, and I’ll be the first to admit it if the novel somehow corrects itself on the problems I have with it right now: namely that everything is once again so goddamn flat and simplified.
Remember the nuance with which both halves of the Mournival were written? Fuck that. Grulgor is a brash dick with no redeeming qualities, Garro is a saint of a man and Typhon is Erebus Mini. Remember how the Remembrancers served to highlight that even the kindest Astartes is still a cold, uncaring war machine at the core? Fuck that, so far the only mortal character - Garro’s housecarl - is here to show you that Grulgor is a dick and Garro is a saint. The divide between diminishing ranks of “watered and fed” Terran-borns and Barbaros Legionaries whose ancestors struggled in extreme conditions - and how it feeds into some really toxic mindsets (I’m not apologising for this awful pun) across the Legion - may as well end up being another botched “good-evil” binary, and I saw enough derision towards the “lows” of society (working class deriding the margins, working-ascended-to-middle class looking down at both, big city middle class sneering at them all) to feel afraid.
I’ll give it benefit of a doubt in one area for now - remember how “Horus Rising” focused mostly on conflict against “normal” humans - not insane technobarbarians, not deranged Chaos worshipers, but conventionally acceptable “civilized” worlds, some of which proclaimed themselves to be the Sole Human Empire In The Galaxy (what could Dan Abnett mean by this, I wonder) - and only introduced a planet of “hostile xenos” as a (forgive me for using this cursed word again) subversion to once again remind you with the subtlety of a brick through the window that the Imperium’s policies are horseshit across the board? “Flight...” opens with an assault on the world-ship of distinctly inhuman xenos who go as far as to implant combat augments into their “children”, which has potential to be another stab against the Imperium and Astartes... but unless it gets elaborated upon later, it may as well end up being a footnote in the story, a cool little setpiece to introduce the characters and little more - or worse, be repurposed into yet another pro-Imperial argument without a hint of self-awareness. After all, we’re already setting up an abridged rehash of “Galaxy in Flames” so we’ll have the basis for Garro turning against his Primarch, siding with the Emperor and flying the titular ship to deliver the news of the Heresy.
A story that could easily have the same nuance and message as “Horus Rising”, but that will most likely end up being boring “good guys outsmart the bad guys” drivel.
Wake me up when Heresy remembers what does “no good guys” actually mean again.
#warhammer 40k#40k rambles#horus heresy was a mistake#100% only reading TSons/White Scars/Space Wolves novels and maybe a handful of guaranteed quality recommendations after I'm done with FotE#because I'm not wasting time on aborted plotlines and Imperial bootlicking#SWs are only there because I need context for how they are in Heresy vs. 40K's present times#so I'll probably drop off after the first few novels#Russ apologists rejoice#I'll be reading about your favourite war criminal because I care too much about my own Fenrisian baby boy#and his dynamics with the 10.000-year-old evil wizard thembo#I'm not a Magnus apologist BTW#I'm his judge-jury-executioner because I love him and TSons but boy do they also fucking suck#imagine being a pick-me girl for the Imperium of Man

never mind that last posttttt
i should really look into people who talk about abortion exclusively in terms of women before reblogging when im on mobile with no shinigami eyes
like what did i think it was, that this sj blogger on tumblr getting into reproductive discourse just hadn't heard the news about trans people existing--
anyway here's the same message from a non-terf: the right to an abortion is unconditional, even if it's because a fetus is disabled. there is a conversation to be had about how the social pressure to abort a disabled fetus is based in eugenics, and we should have that conversation, but no individual should be kept from an abortion or forced to bear a fetus, period. bodily autonomy is not conditional.
(but make it trans rights)
#abortion talk cw#transphobia talk cw#eugenics talk cw#kill your local terf today#it was genuinely fucking aggravating how far i had to go through that blog to find actual transphobic rhetoric#fucking dogwhistle ass wasting my fucking time#just say youre a bigot and be done with it yknow#sage original post#sage speaks
