Your thoughts on The Battle of Montgisard?
Definitely one of those "once in a century" type events, imo.
There's quite a few YouTube video analyses/documentaries (and even attempts at various video game recreations) of the battle, so I won't repeat what you can easily find elsewhere.
But, suffice it to say, I think it was the combination of just the right factors that led to Baldwin's seemingly-impossible victory. These included (but are not limited to) the young king's own leadership skills, those of his commanders, Saladin's lack of preparation... and just plain old luck.😆
There's a quote from a user manual of an old RPG I used to play that says "Overconfidence can be an epitaph". This was very nearly proven true at Montgisard. Saladin's overconfidence, I think, was probably the biggest contributor to Baldwin's win. He thought he had Baldwin hemmed in at Ascalon, didn't think that the king would break past the force he left behind (or, at the very least, not that quickly), and let his army spread out too much. That plus the environmental conditions with the mired baggage train, and it became a recipe for disaster for Saladin - and a prime opportunity for Baldwin.
If you want a good laugh, there is an absolutely hilarious discussion of it here. BUT be warned that it is the kind of humor that is riddled with foul language, so if that's not your thing, beware. XD

Anniversary of the fall of Königsberg. >Re image 2: POV, you just woke up. The anniversary was actually April 9th, but Tuesdays are so chaotic for me I didn't get around to posting. Now would be a good time for you to go and research the history of the city and it's destruction. The subject of Königsberg should not be used to stoke division, it is the tragic, shared legacy of many European peoples, may we hold hands and morn losses on all sides.
Description of Image 1: Three Prussian Officer Cadets and a junior Lieutenant gather outside of Königsberg Castle, wearing walking out dress, in April 1908. Characters are from my pre-wwi Prussian Officer Cadet drama, Moth. Their names from left to right: Vincent Odinkirk, Leon von Zelewski, Siegfried Isenstein, Gottlieb Witt. Description of Image 2: The same view of the castle, but in April 1945. Three crosses represent the deaths of the comrades in the first image. A Soviet has crawled out from a burning tank and is screaming to be put out of his misery. The Script of Moth, to which these Illustrations relate, does not continue beyond the 1920's. And so, this is likely to be my first and last piece of wwii art. The two images are 37 years and 2 world wars apart, but the castle and the surviving German officer, are meant to lend permanence to the composition. This is the destruction of his home.

Happy Remembrance Day to everyone
It's important that we remember what we lost the 106 years ago to appreciate what we have now
That doesn't mean the fighting ever stops
There are wars going on everywhere.
People who still don't have what they need to lead a good life
Our soldiers and veterans did all they could
But some people are still fighting battles. And not just with a guns and bombs
Happy Remembrance from an Australian whose family was on both sides of the war

Today 2nd April marks the 42nd Anniversary of the Falklands War, a conflict fought over 8000 miles away from the United Kingdom.
"The people of the Falkland Islands...are few in number but they have the right to live in peace, to choose their own way of life and to determine their own allegiance." – Margaret Thatcher, 1982.
42 years on, we will still defend that right.

The female programmers of ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) - the first programmable, electronic, general-purpose digital computer, completed in 1945. ENIAC could be programmed to perform complex sequences of operations, including loops, branches, and subroutines. However, instead of the stored-program computers that exist today, ENIAC was just a large collection of arithmetic machines, which originally had programs set up into the machine by a combination of plugboard wiring and three portable function tables (containing 1,200 ten-way switches each).

56 Years Ago TODAY, MLK was ASSASSINATED. He didn't just die, he was KILLED. MURDERED.
The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4, 1968, plunged the nation into a vortex of grief, rage, and reflection. Cities across the United States erupted in flames, as the pent-up frustrations of generations burst forth in of protests and riots. The fabric of American society seemed to unravel, thread by thread, as the Black community, and much of America, grappled with the magnitude of their loss and the injustices that remained. In this turmoil, James Baldwin captured the essence of the nation's psyche: “The atmosphere was black, with a tension indescribable—as though something, perhaps the heavens, perhaps the earth, might crack.” (x)

And tonight then Good King Wenceslas from 1994! Cast: Stefanie Powers - The Queen Jonathan Brandis - Prince Wenceslas (RIP) Perry King - Tunna Leo McKern - Duke Philip Joan Fontaine - Queen Ludmilla (RIP) Charlotte Chatton - Princess Johanna Oliver Milburn - Boleslav and many more Story: Wenceslas, the young king of Bohemia, lives trapped between the wisdom of his Christian grandmother and his ever constant battle with his tyranical step-mother. She wants her own son to be king and constantly tries to stay in charge of Wenceslas's life (including picking out a bride for him). But it is only when he sees the suffering of his people that Wenceslas learns how vital it is that his step-brother never rules. —Max Vaughn (taken from IMDB again) Thoughts: I don't know the song but I do know some of the legend of King Wenceslas and it was filmed at some of the original places in the Czech Republic (and London). Prince Wenceslas enjoys his day as his stepmother rules Bohemia and the chancellor Tunna reigns her bed. She loathes the Christians who become stronger every day. The Queen wants her own son, Boleslav, to be king, yet she can't go against the popularity of Wenceslas and his grandmother. Wenceslas bids only to her wishes and doesn't want to marry but when he sees his bride-to-be, Johanna, he slowly changes his mind. And more when he realizes that the Queen and Tunna take money and wood from the people in his name. When his grandmother is killed by one of the Lords, he goes against the Queen and Tunna with his people. Wenceslas has a sword fight with Tunna and the chancellor ends up under a chandelier (how fitting) and the Queen and her son are on the run. They free all people and give away what was storaged in the castle. Wenceslas marries Johanna and well, you know the end.
It’s the story to the known Christmas Carol, yet not for me but I did my research about the historical facts of King Wenceslas.
