Lenni Reviews: "Everything Is Fine, I'll Just Work Harder: Confessions of a Former Badass" by Cara Gormally
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. Trigger warning for sexual assault. Cara is a hard worker. She never skips a run, has plenty of projects and papers to work on, and a solid relationship with her partner. Things are going great until her rapist sends her a friend request. As she spirals, Cara returns to therapy to work through her trauma. I love how…

Lenni Reviews: "I Wanna Do Bad Things with You" Vol. 4, by Yutaka
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. When Soshi falls ill during their study session, Kei goads Mamori into taking care of him. Unsure of herself, Mamori asks Ichika – Soshi’s intended fiancee – to assist her and they all end up staying over to study for the upcoming exams. In addition to the study session and sleep-over shenanigans, we get some back story…

Lenni Reviews: "Rainbow Days" Vol. 14, by Minami Mizuno
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. Not that the second term has started, the boys are thinking about college. Keiichi has no motivation to grow up and Tsuyoshi’s plans may not be in line with his girlfriends’s. This volume really gives you the feeling of going from the small world of your high school to realizing how big the world is outside of it. It’s…

Today's Workout: Dang it...
I’ve been talking around getting back into running and while I have c25k, I went to download c210k, feeling particularly ambitious. And I thought it was a glitch that after the first few runs, you have to pay for the pro version. I’m thinking I did something wrong and nope! I went to the reviews and it’s been changed. Back in 2020 during lockdown, I was doing it just fine for free. I don’t mind…

Today's Workout: Good News!
On Monday I went to see the podiatrist about the weird toenails I have and she strongly advised me not to do any permanent toenail removal unless they are causing me pain or other issues. It would be too much pain, risk, and trauma to the tissue for it to really be worth it to remove them all as a preventative measure for a problem that may not happen for decades. So, I’m not getting that surgery…

Lenni Reviews: "Mujina into the Deep" Vol. 1, by Inio Asano
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review and is suggested for mature readers. In this dystopian world, there exists a class of people called Mujina, who have given up their human rights, live off the grid, and usually end up as assassins. Terumi Morgan is coasting through life as a middle-aged man who just wants to watch his smut in his spare time. When he ends…

Lenni Reviews: "The Elusive Samurai" Vol. 14, by Yusei Matsui
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. After Tokiyuki’s loss to the Ashikaga forces, he has retreated from Kamakura. Two years later, Emperor G0-Daigo and Takauji are fighting for control of the land. After a section dedicated to the use of human excrement as fertilizer and bomb-making material, we have Tokiyuki looking for allies so he can take on Takauji and…

Hoping to be one of the cool kids, Renako has put herself under a ton of pressure and when she goes to the roof to destress, she meets popular girl Oduka Mai and they become friends. Lenni Reviews: "The Murder Next Door: A Graphic Memoir" by Hugh D'Andrade
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. At 10 years old, Hugh came home from school to see his friends crying outside their home because they’d discovered the body of their murdered mother. As an adult, he still struggles with the memories and fear. This memoir is mainly about how trauma can affect someone in the long term. It’s very honest and not at all…

Lenni Reviews: "Cat Companions Maruru and Hachi" Vol. 1, by Yuri Sonoda
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. Maruru lived with a nice family until he chased a flock of sparrows and got lost. Now living on the streets, he runs into Hachi, who eventually takes the housecat under his wing to survive as strays together. While adorable and heartwarming at times, it’s also heartwrenching. Stray cats don’t have easy lives and while…

Lenni Reviews: "You Must Take Part in Revolution: A Graphic Novel" by Badiucao & Melissa Chan
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review. I did NOT intend this to be so damn relatable to the real world right now just… UGH! In a techno-authoritarian China, three young rebels meet at a protest: Maggie, Andy, and Olivia. As things spiral, Maggie becomes more violent and after a failed attack, the three are separated; Maggie is in prison, Olivia flees to…

Today's Workout: Long Month
I’m hardly the only one who feels like “What a year this month has been.” I haven’t lost much weight but I did lose what I’d gained over the holidays and I’m sure I can keep things on a downward trend. I get a lot of complements at work about what I make for lunch. Apparently the smell goes everywhere but people like it! I may have to post exactly what I use and how much (even though I don’t…

Lenni Reviews: "Hanging On By A Thread" by Noémie Honein
(Image Source) *This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review and is suggested for mature audiences. In Beirut where it is considered taboo to discuss such things, 18-year-old Noémie is diagnosed with cancer and this book shows her treatment and recovery from her illness. This depiction is fairly unflinching. I say ‘fairly’ because it’s not gory or anything but Noémie is very frank…

Today's Workout: Dealing With Dinner
Lately, I’ve been just letting my mind wander while I do the desk peddler so I don’t focus on time. My legs just go and eventually, I think to check my watch. I still miss running but I can tell the muscles in my thighs are getting a workout. I see the definition slowly forming. Now that I’ve been remembering to eat breakfast, I am not that hungry once dinner rolls around. You’d think 60 or so…
