this is just your daily reminder that if what you THINK you're saying is "i want a ceasefire in gaza," what you're ACTUALLY saying is "I don't think the over 240 civilian hostages who were violently abducted from their homes in Israel over a month ago, including at least 32 children, deserve to be safe or have their human rights respected, and also I think Israel should stop defending its civilians so that Hamas can complete the genocide they set out to commit on October 7."

Hamas's political leader Ismail Haniyeh has confirmed that three of his sons and four of his grandchildren were killed in an air strike in Gaza. Hamas-linked media said the car his sons were travelling in was hit in Al-Shati camp near Gaza City. Haniyeh said that the incident would not change Hamas's demands in talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire deal.Israel's military said the sons were members of Hamas's military wing. The group was reportedly on its way to a family celebration to mark the first day of the Muslim holiday of Eid.
"The enemy will be delusional if it thinks that targeting my sons, at the climax of the [ceasefire] negotiations and before the movement sends its response, will push Hamas to change its position," he told Al Jazeera. In comments reported on Hamas's Telegram channel, he thanked God for the "honour" bestowed on him by what he called the "martyrdom of his children and grandchildren".

It must be lovely for people to have the privilege of just being able to run their mouths on the war between Israel and Hamas because it doesn't affect them in any way, shape or form.
It's so clear they have no interest in peace otherwise they would put in the groundwork (like literally acknowledging that a ceasefire isn't possible without hostages being returned - however that has to happen, and I have complicated feelings about the push for prisoner swaps as it condones the use of taking civilians hostages, but honestly if that is what it takes then I just want this over).
There are literally only two basic things people need to do to show they want to talk to me in good faith -
1. Acknowledge Hamas include combatants with civilians in death figures (whether the figure is correct or not) along with acknowledging that Hamas hide in civilian areas on purpose
2. Understand that while Israeli hostages are in Gaza, this isn't stopping.
Honourable mention: there was a ceasefire on October 6th
If someone is happy to accept both these things are true, then they at least understand it's a complex situation and there aren't easy answers. Obviously there are other things two but these are literally the two points so many people refuse to believe exist.
So many diaspora Jews as well as Israelis (including my aunt) are against this war and want it over and we are literally the best allies rando white people in the West could have because we have the lived experience of what it's like to be (or have family in) Israel and have literally grown up following the situation for years but no, ideological purity so people can have their holier than thou moment is more important to them.
TL:DR for the Reading Comprehension Website
1. I want this war over asap
2. The civilian deaths in Gaza are horrific
3. This will not end until hostages are no longer in Gaza
4. It is not in Hamas' interest to end the war, they have openly said this on global interviews. They include their combatant deaths in with the civilians to make the numbers larger. In literally no other war are the people who are fighting included in the death counts for civilians.
5. Left wing Israelis and diaspora Jews are your best allies for learning about this from the non Palestinian side, he'll go listen to Unapologetic: the 3rd Narrative to hear Arab Israelis talk about it. They're brilliant and far more learned than most people on here.
6. If you're going to quote numbers, at least use the ones Hamas provide. They want Israel to look bad, so why are people randomly pulling numbers out of their ass. It's embarrassing to see people not even able to listen to terrorists who they are siding with .

Half of Democrats skip Netanyahu speech
Amid ongoing protests during his visit to the US capital, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced an unprecedented boycott by about half of the Democrats in the House and Senate when he addressed a joint session of Congress on Wednesday.
While many lawmakers had previously announced their intention to boycott the speech, Representative Rashida Tlaib, the only American lawmaker of Palestinian descent, chose to attend, wearing a keffiyeh and holding a sign that read “war criminal” on one side and “guilty of genocide” on the other as a sign of defiance.
After Netanyahu finished his speech, Tlaib said the applause for the Israeli prime minister was “disgusting.” However, she was not the only one to criticise the Israeli PM’s speech.
Nancy Pelosi, former House Speaker, called Netanyahu’s speech the ‘worst’ performance by a foreign leader in US history. She said on her microblog:
Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to the House of Representatives today was by far the worst speech by any foreign dignitary invited and honoured to address the US Congress. Many of us who love Israel spent time today listening to Israeli citizens whose families have suffered since the Hamas terror attack and kidnappings on October 7. These families are asking for a ceasefire agreement that will bring the hostages home, and we hope the prime minister will spend his time working toward that goal.

Do you thino Qatar could nogiate a ceasefire? That would be much better than a truce that they have helped make happen between Israel and Hamas
historically, israel has violated just about every ceasefire ever enacted
this article is from 2012, detailing violated ceasefires up until that point (and I recently shared some articles about their recent truce violations)
and while I support a ceasefire, I don't have high hopes for israel actually honouring one. the recent truce has ended, and a ceasefire is important because at the very least it slows down the siege and makes it hard for people to defend the violence perpetrated by the IDF in violation of ceasefire terms
what I'm saying is that I think another ceasefire is possible and necessary, but we can't stop there. the israeli government will continue to violate ceasefire agreements, and while a ceasefire definitely slows the attacks down, it has never fully stopped them

Australia, Albanese, and Palestine
Disclaimer: I am no journalist, just an activist. If any of this is incorrect or disinformation, let me know, provide a source, and I will edit the post with a cited correction. All quotes and information for this post can be found within the linked pages and articles.
OVERVIEW: Australia's PM, Anthony Albanese, and foreign minister, Penny Wong, have each made revoltingly spineless, centrist statements, condemning both Hamas and Israel, and offering only the most tokenistic of Palestinian support. These statements prompted our PM's home branch of Labour government to pass a unanimous motion urging him to call for a ceasefire. Australia previously stated it would no longer recognise West Jerusalem as Israel's capital, but it remains unclear whether the Labour government will honour its commitment towards recognising Palestine as its own state. So far, a federal call for a ceasefire has not been made.
On the 13th of November, Albanese's home branch, in the electorate of Grayndler, effectively called for a ceasefire in Gaza, openly condemning Israel's collective punishment of Palestine. The branch unanimously passed a motion urging Albanese and his administration to "utilise all avenues of diplomacy to stop the bombing", to acknowledge that Israel's actions have "moved from that of defending itself to acts of retribution on an innocent Palestinian population", and to recognise that Israel is in violation of international law.
This came in swift response to Albanese's address earlier that day, wherein he condemned "all violence" happening in Palestine. Regurgitating anti-Hamas propaganda, he referred to Hamas as terrorists, claimed that they are continually bombing Israel, and propagated the baseless lie that they use "human shields" (which is actually a crime committed by Israel). Penny Wong, Australia's foreign minister, went several steps further, branding Hamas as a "terrorist organisation" with the "stated aim" of the "destruction of Israel". This came with zero acknowledgement that Israel is, by its nature, an offensive presence in Palestine, and does not exist in a vacuum.
In this same statement, the PM urged a recognition of the difference between Hamas and Palestine, voicing his continual support for Palestinian people. Having his cake and eating it too, he additionally stated that Israel "does have a right to defend itself, but the way it does matters"; but that "[the world] must distinguish between Hamas and Palestinian citizens".
For any who are unaware, Albanese held a pro-Palestine stance well before he was PM [unfortunately, the only source for the video of him at a pro-Palestine rally is in a Sky News article, and I would much rather not give Murdoch any business]. Disappointingly, this seems to have shifted further towards a "both sides" style, pussyfooting centrism, likely for the sake political palatability. He maintains vocal support for Palestinian people, but will quickly undercut it with frantic disclaimers that Israel has the "right [to] defend itself".
The PM quickly and rightfully came under public fire for not condemning Israel more harshly, with a mass of protestors calling out his cowardice. Calling for an acknowledgement of the difference between Hamas and Palestine is noteworthy, as much of the IDF's propaganda relies on conflating the two to justify civilian slaughter, but it is not the same as calling for an actual ceasefire, nor is it helpful nor relevant to focus on Hamas when over ten thousand human beings have been murdered by Israeli forces. Additionally, Australia abstained from the October 2023 UN vote on an immediate humanitarian truce between Hamas and Israel, calling the non-binding resolution "incomplete", as it did not explicitly "recognise" Hamas as the perpetrators of the October 7 attack.
In June of 2022, a US-led statement calling for an end to the inquiry into Israel's occupation of Palestine was proposed at the UN, which Australia thankfully refused to sign, citing deep concerns for human rights abuse; though, in true cowardly fashion, a clarifying statement agreeing that Israel was under "disproportionate scrutiny" was made. In September of 2022, Wong announced Australia would double its $10 million contribution to the UN Relief and UNRWA to $20 million. Then, in response to the backlash against this decision, Wong stated, "Australia remains a strong supporter of a two-state solution, in which Israel and a future Palestinian state coexist, in peace and security, within internationally recognised borders. Viewing the Israeli-Palestine conflict from one perspective will not achieve that goal."
The following month, Albanese met with Nasser Mashni, the VP of the APAN (Australia Palestine Advocacy Network), to discuss Australia's stance on Gaza and Palestine. Within the week, an announcement that Australia would no longer recognise West Jerusalem as Israel's capital was made, reversing the Morrison government's decision regarding its recognition. While Mashni optimistically insists that Australia will recognise Palestine's statehood, going so far as to call it "a given", a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trades spokesperson said, quote, "Australia does not recognise a state of Palestine. We continue to call on all sides to resume negotiations towards a just and enduring two-state solution".
Mashni, after meeting with Albanese, said the following on the matter: "The Prime Minister and the Labor Party have spoken about the need to honour promises and the promise was to recognise Palestine."
A direct contradiction in our government's stance on any issue hardly comes as a surprise, but is disgusting and despicable regardless.
Recognition of Palestine as a state is instrumental in ending Israeli occupation.
Australia does not yet recognise Palestine as its own state, and is one of the few UN countries in that shameful category. It is unclear whether Labour will follow through on its commitment to do so, or whether they will actually agree to call for a ceasefire on a federal level, or just keep condemning "both sides" and ignoring Palestine's statehood.
Albanese continues dangling the carrot of Palestinian support in front of the Australian people, mourning the civilian deaths in Gaza and swearing the violence must end, then yanking it back with anti-Hamas disclaimers and backing Israel's "right" to "defend itself" against "terrorism". His flimsy stance seems to be that Israel, which he praised for its democracy, has now gone "too far", its slaughter and punishment of Palestinian people over Hamas no longer justified.
It was never justified to begin with. Israel is not a democracy, the two-state solution is a lie, and it was never about Hamas. The state of Palestine has been suffering a genocide for over seventy years.
Until our federal government calls for a ceasefire, acknowledges Israel's genocide against Palestine, condemns the ethnic cleansing being carried out in front of everyone's bloody eyes, or generally shuts the fuck up about Hamas, we will have no meaningful progress in Australia.
There is blood all over this man's idle, idle hands. Do not let him forget it.

🇺🇳🇵🇸🇮🇱🚨 IN A STATEMENT WITH THE MEDIA The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Gutierrez repeated his previous condemnations of the killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The Secretary General first repeated his "utter condemnation" of the violence against settlers on October 7th by Hamas and other Palestinian Resistance cells as part of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. He also called on Hamas to release any hostages it is still holding in Gaza.
The Secretary General then went on to repeat his earlier condemnations of Israeli massacres of civilians in the Gaza Strip and said he was "dismayed" by reports that two-thirds of those killed in Gaza have been women and children.
"I mourn and honour the United Nations colleagues who have tragically been killed in the bombardment of Gaza over the past three weeks. My heart goes out to the families of our colleagues who lost their lives in service," Gutierrez said to reporters.
"International humanitarian law establishes clear rules that cannot be ignored. It is not an a la carte menu and cannot be applied selectively."
"All parties must abide by it, including the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution."
"With too many Israeli and Palestinian lives already lost, this escalation only increases the immense suffering of civilians."
The Secretary General went on to lament the pace of humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip, calling it "completely inadequate" and "not commensurate with the needs of people in Gaza, compounding the humanitarian tragedy."
"I reiterate my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and for unimpeded humanitarian access to be granted consistently, safely and to scale in order to meet the urgent needs created by the catastrophe unfolding in Gaza," Gutierrez said.
"I remain deeply concerned about the risk of a dangerous escalation beyond Gaza and urge all leaders to exercise utmost restraint to avoid a wider conflagration."

Speaking on Wednesday, prosecutors said the suspects were caught on security footage as they moved through Paris before "departing for Belgium from the Bercy bus station" in southeast Paris.
The investigators added that the suspects' bus reservations "had been made from Bulgaria".
On 14 May, red hands were found daubed on the Wall of the Righteous at the Paris Holocaust memorial, which lists 3,900 people honoured for saving Jews during the Nazi occupation of France in World War II.
Prosecutors are investigating damage to a protected historical building for national, ethnic, racial or religious motives.
Russia suspected of graffiti campaign
Similar tags were found elsewhere in the Marais district of central Paris, historically a centre of French Jewish life.
The hands echoed imagery used earlier this month by students demonstrating for a ceasefire in Israel's campaign against the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza.
Their discovery prompted a new wave of outrage over anti-Semitism.
In February, Paris' internal security service suspected Russia's FSB security service of being behind an October graffiti campaign tagging stars of David on Paris buildings.
A Moldovan couple was arrested in the case.

Excellencies,
The situation in the Middle East is growing more dire by the hour.
The war in Gaza is raging and risks spiralling throughout the region.
Divisions are splintering societies. Tensions threaten to boil over.
At a crucial moment like this, it is vital to be clear on principles -- starting with the fundamental principle of respecting and protecting civilians.
I have condemned unequivocally the horrifying and unprecedented 7 October acts of terror by Hamas in Israel.
Nothing can justify the deliberate killing, injuring and kidnapping of civilians – or the launching of rockets against civilian targets.
All hostages must be treated humanely and released immediately and without conditions. I respectfully note the presence among us of members of their families.
Excellencies,
It is important to also recognize the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum.
The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation.
They have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence; their economy stifled; their people displaced and their homes demolished. Their hopes for a political solution to their plight have been vanishing.
But the grievances of the Palestinian people cannot justify the appalling attacks by Hamas. And those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.
Excellencies,
Even war has rules.
We must demand that all parties uphold and respect their obligations under international humanitarian law; take constant care in the conduct of military operations to spare civilians; and respect and protect hospitals and respect the inviolability of UN facilities which today are sheltering more than 600,000 Palestinians.
The relentless bombardment of Gaza by Israeli forces, the level of civilian casualties, and the wholesale destruction of neighborhoods continue to mount and are deeply alarming.
I mourn and honour the dozens of UN colleagues working for UNRWA – sadly, at least 35 and counting – killed in the bombardment of Gaza over the last two weeks.
I owe to their families my condemnation of these and many other similar killings.
The protection of civilians is paramount in any armed conflict.
Protecting civilians can never mean using them as human shields.
Protecting civilians does not mean ordering more than one million people to evacuate to the south, where there is no shelter, no food, no water, no medicine and no fuel, and then continuing to bomb the south itself.
I am deeply concerned about the clear violations of international humanitarian law that we are witnessing in Gaza.
Let me be clear: No party to an armed conflict is above international humanitarian law.
Excellencies,
Thankfully, some humanitarian relief is finally getting into Gaza.
But it is a drop of aid in an ocean of need.
In addition, our UN fuel supplies in Gaza will run out in a matter of days. That would be another disaster.
Without fuel, aid cannot be delivered, hospitals will not have power, and drinking water cannot be purified or even pumped.
The people of Gaza need continuous aid delivery at a level that corresponds to the enormous needs. That aid must be delivered without restrictions.
I salute our UN colleagues and humanitarian partners in Gaza working under hazardous conditions and risking their lives to provide aid to those in need. They are an inspiration.
To ease epic suffering, make the delivery of aid easier and safer, and facilitate the release of hostages, I reiterate my appeal for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.
Excellencies,
Even in this moment of grave and immediate danger, we cannot lose sight of the only realistic foundation for a true peace and stability: a two-State solution.
Israelis must see their legitimate needs for security materialized, and Palestinians must see their legitimate aspirations for an independent State realized, in line with United Nations resolutions, international law and previous agreements.
Finally, we must be clear on the principle of upholding human dignity.
Polarization and dehumanization are being fueled by a tsunami of disinformation.
We must stand up to the forces of antisemitism, anti-Muslim bigotry and all forms of hate.
Mr. President, Excellencies,
Today is United Nations Day, marking 78 years since the UN Charter entered into force.
That Charter reflects our shared commitment to advance peace, sustainable development and human rights.
On this UN Day, at this critical hour, I appeal to all to pull back from the brink before the violence claims even more lives and spreads even farther.

[ad_1] Israel is set to send a delegation to Qatar’s capital, Doha, today to resume negotiations regarding a hostage agreement in the Gaza Strip, The Times of Israel reported. The delegation will include officials from Mossad, the country’s intelligence agency; Shin Bet or the Israeli Security Agency, the intelligence, technological, and operational organisation of Israel; and Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). On Thursday, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced that the Prime Minister had approved the delegation’s visit to Qatar to discuss a potential hostage-ceasefire arrangement. In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said, “Netanyahu authorised a working-level delegation from the Mossad, Shin Bet and IDF to continue negotiations in Doha.” Meanwhile, The Hostages and Missing Families Forum, a civil, volunteer-based organisation representing the families of the hostages, welcomed the decision by Netanyahu and said that the “window of opportunity” cannot be missed. In a rough translation of the post on X, the organisation said, “The Hostages and Missing Families Forum welcomes the decision to send the Israeli delegation to Qatar. We must not miss the window of opportunity! We demand that the prime minister give the negotiating team a mandate to reach an agreement that will see the return of every last hostage – the living to rehabilitation and the murdered for an honourable burial.” Earlier in November 2024, Qatar had said that it halted its role as a ceasefire mediator due to a lack of willingness by Israel and Hamas to reach an agreement. According to a CNN report, Israel and Hamas blamed each other for talks stalling when Hamas said Israel had set “new issues and conditions” on the terms of a deal, and Netanyahu accused Hamas of “reneging on understandings.” However, sources within Hamas and Israel have voiced cautious optimism in December about the prospects of reaching a deal. On October 7, 2023, Hamas, the largest militant group in Palestine, carried out a massive terror attack on Israel. Over 1,200 people, including foreign nationals, were killed by Hamas, women were raped, and over 250 hostages were abducted. Out of them, only around 100 are said to be alive; the rest are believed to be killed in captivity, and some were returned to Israel during a partial ceasefire in December 2023. [ad_2] Source link

ISRAEL GAZA STRATEGY
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/936ec8c7684b9d929eef2188c07d751a/d91383ffc50deed1-ad/s540x810/b80561d07b6b8b57e5453b1d52b731aa6aebd30a.jpg)
It’s becoming difficult to predict the ‘end result’ in Gaza amidst Israel’s visible aversion and demotivation to arrive on any ceasefire agreement. Its stated goal is to “destroy Hamas” which is practically not in sight where Gaza’s toll has already crossed 40,000 in which almost half of them were children’s.
Let’s try to deconstruct this briefly, With Hamas’s TERRORIST ATTACK! On Oct. 7 (which killed more than 1000 Israelis, and taken many hostages) shows vulnerability in Israel’s impenetrable security net (incl. its intelligence gathering capability). But on the other side, this attack gave them an unprecedented opportunity I.e. a High moral ground to attack Gaza Strip in the garb of Self-defence and ‘Retribution’ to achieve some goals (because they were the victim this time).
Now what are the goals?
On deliberation, few probable options emerge for this prolonged operation (so called ‘war’) -
Due to Sunk cost fallacy - Maybe they started Gaza raid with retribution in mind against Hamas but with no end sight amidst huge cost of war, they are not able to find any honourable and justifying withdrawal.
Buffer space along with Gaza’s periphery - which may ensure their security post war (& now it extended to Lebanon aswell)
Force Migration - By huge no. of citizens toll to create fear among them and eventually pushed them out of the strip (like mass exodus during Gulf War!)
An exclusive land for Jews - It may be a long-sought dream of the past but any successful step in this direction works well for the personal gain of Netanyahu.
Personal gain of Netanyahu - He started this to take retribution against Hamas but with prolonged war, unsuccessful attempts in releasing hostages and thousands of civilian’s deaths, he may be charged with various war crimes globally and wide condemnation domestically if the war wouldn’t end with a favourable outcome for the Israelis. (As END JUSTIFY THE MEANS). So, this war is now more personal for him than anything else.
Purely Consequential reason – i.e. to prolong this war to get as much benefit as you can! before sitting on a negotiation table for Post war solution (like 2state solution) after the ceasefire. (because after that they may not get any opportunity to get these)
But this is not just about Israel, Gaza and Netanyahu, because of the ripple effect of this war, situation in West Asian theatre has already become tense which has affected the global Trade and food price as it is one of the major passage (accounted to almost 15% of sea borne trade) which resulted into high price of necessities (like food, clothes, medicine) especially for developing world (Global south) who are already facing the brunt of climate change.
Other than this, with surging multi directional confrontation with Iran, Lebanon(Hezbollah), Yemen(Houthi’s) & Hamas (AXIS OF RESISTANCE), there is a possibility of wider escalation which will not limit to just West Asia and could push whole world into the time of chaos.
As our PM Modi stated, “this is not the era of war”, and hence this conflict should be end here and now, which is only possible with wide global interference and consensus, Stationing UN SECURITY FORCES could be the initial step to ease Israel’s security dilemma as well as ensuring peace and timely support for Gazans and stability for rest of the region.

What are their objectives that Israel want so badly? This is hamas objective:
"We are committed to our demands: the permanent ceasefire, comprehensive and complete withdrawal of the enemy out of the Gaza Strip, the return of all displaced people to their homes, allowing all aid needed for our people in Gaza, rebuilding the Strip, lifting the blockade and achieving an honourable prisoner exchange deal," Haniyeh said in a televised speech marking Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day.
..whats so bad about their demands? "Hey, stop killing us and let us have our own space to live." woah, what a crazy concept.
(some links that back my statement up before people say 'fake')

Remember thar Hamas, the "bad guys", have offered a ceasefire and Israel said NO because that would mean surrender, which translates to "but- but we will have to stop bombing Palestinians and killing kids and stop ethnic cleansing. No, no, we can't admit DEFEAT"

Also remember that ICC, the INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT, wants issue arrest warrants against Israel.

But republicans say "No❤️"
Remember that your silence today will lead to the death of more Palestinians. You will be just as complicit in their murder, in their genocide.

Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire agreement begins in Lebanon after nearly 14 months of fighting
Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah began observing a truce on Wednesday, a major step toward ending nearly 14 months of fighting as the region on the brink of war wondered whether it would be honoured.
US President Joe Biden said the truce agreement between Israel and Hezbollah would begin on November 27 at 04.00 a.m. local time in Israel and Lebanon.
The terms of the deal stipulate that Israel Defence Forces (IDF) units will leave Lebanon within the next 60 days. Washington and Paris will work to ensure the “full realisation of the ceasefire,” Reuters noted, citing a joint statement by the French and US presidents.
Netanyahu reserves Israel’s “right to act”
Reports of the truce were confirmed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Ten out of 11 members of Israel’s Security Cabinet voted in favour of the deal with the Lebanese group, the politician wrote on social network X.
Netanyahu thanked the US for its “contribution to the process” but pointed out that Israel retains “its right to act against any threat to its security” and “freedom to secure” a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah. Against the backdrop of the deal, the Israeli Prime Minister also promised the country’s citizens that Israel would resume fighting in Lebanon if Hezbollah armed itself or rebuilt its infrastructure near the border.
At the same time, the US will co-operate with the Lebanese army to guarantee that potential violations are prevented. Washington will also join a regional military technical committee that will provide equipment, training and financial support to the Lebanese armed forces.
Military conflict in Lebanon
Israel’s ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon began on October 1. It was preceded by a massive bombing of pagers of the terrorist group’s militants in mid-September, carried out by Israeli intelligence services, and subsequent shelling of the sides, during which Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in Beirut on September 27.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health, meanwhile, reported 1,974 civilians killed and some 9,384 wounded in IDF shelling in the first ten days of fighting alone.
The escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah came against the backdrop of the Lebanese military group supporting Hamas’ massive attack on Israel on October 7 2023. Following these events and the start of the IDF’s retaliatory military operation in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah began regularly shelling Israel from Lebanon. Hezbollah launched one of the last major such attacks on 24 November.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of France Unbowed (LFI), wrote on X:
“The ceasefire agreement in Lebanon is designed to interrupt the martyrdom of the Lebanese. France must help the Lebanese national army to regain its strength so that it can fulfil its part of the agreement and include in its ranks all those who want to guarantee the sovereignty of their country.”
