Joe Biden has called for an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza, telling Benjamin Netanyahu that future US support for Israel will depend on it taking concrete action to protect civilians and aid workers. As the two leaders held their first phone call since Israeli airstrikes killed seven employees of the international food charity World Central Kitchen (WCK), Biden issued the strongest US rebuke toward Israel since the start of the conflict. In Thursday’s call, which lasted less than 30 minutes, the US president “made clear the need for Israel to announce and implement a series of specific, concrete and measurable steps to address civilian harm, humanitarian suffering and the safety of aid workers”, the White House said in a statement.

FINANCE MINISTER SMOTRICH INFORMS PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU: A DEAL UNDER THE CURRENT CONDITIONS - THE END OF THE GOVERNMENT.
"Mr. Prime Minister,
Egyptian mediation deals that ended previous "rounds" when Hamas was alive and kicking and allowed it to strengthen again and again and massacre Israeli citizens like it has not happened since the Holocaust, this is exactly what you have led in the last two decades, and it is exactly, but exactly what we all promised not to do again this time.
Agreeing to the Egyptian deal is a humiliating surrender, and it grants victory to the Nazis on the backs of the hundreds of heroic IDF soldiers who fell in battle, it imposes a death sentence on the abductees who are not included in the deal, and above all - it poses an immediate existential danger to the State of Israel.
If you decide to raise a white flag and cancel the order to occupy Rafah immediately for the purpose of completing the task of destroying Hamas, and restoring security to the residents of the south and the citizens of Israel, and returning ALL our abducted brothers and sisters to their homes - the government headed by you will have no right to exist.
This is a fateful moment for the people of Israel. The decision is yours.

JUNE 24 2024- "An Israeli source with knowledge of the negotiations with Hamas tells Channel 12 that Netanyahu’s comments yesterday on backing only a “partial” deal “caused damage that will be very difficult to fix and at terrible timing — when all pressure was directed at [Hamas’s Gaza leader Yahya] Sinwar."
“His statement was actual sabotage. It’s difficult to see how we can reach a deal in the near future. It’s ‘game over’ for a deal,” the source said, adding: “He’s giving up on releasing the abducted soldiers and on the chance to try to first bring home the women, female soldiers, and the elderly.”

UCLA calls police as campus clashes escalate
Police stormed the Columbia University building late Tuesday after the university asked for help, a spokesman said in a statement. A tent camp on campus was cleared, as was Hamilton Hall, where a stream of police used a ladder to climb through a second-floor window.
Protesters calling for the Ivy League university to stop collaborating with Israel or companies that support the Gaza war took over the hall about 20 hours ago. The school said:
“After the University learned overnight that Hamilton Hall had been occupied, vandalised, and blockaded, we were left with no choice. The decision to reach out to the NYPD was in response to the actions of the protesters, not the cause they are championing. We have made it clear that the life of campus cannot be endlessly interrupted by protesters who violate the rules and the law.”
The arrests came after protesters refused to honour an earlier ultimatum to leave the camp on Monday or be suspended, and after other universities stepped up efforts to end the demonstrations inspired by Columbia University.
Fabien Lugo, a first-year accounting student who said he did not participate in the protests, said he disagreed with the university’s decision to call the police. He said:
“This is too intense. It feels like more of an escalation than a de-escalation.”

This is Hamas' response to the proposal the Israeli occupation government sent them
Tumblr media
In other words, Hamas made a counter offer the other Resistance factions are happy with. The terms that must be met before a prisoner exchange are:
Permanent ceasefire
the complete withdrawal of the IDF from Gaza
Lifting the blockade and allowing aid to enter the strip
Reconstruction of Gaza
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Palestinian resistance has the upper hand. Remember the last time Hamas sent a proposal in November that included a pause in the fighting, Israel immediately dismissed it before crawling back and accepting. This time they are willing to consider it from the start. In fact Netanyahu has gone from saying the war will last a year to just months
I trust that all the conditions for the prisoner exchange will be met.

by Seth Mandel
And here’s the try-not-to-laugh payoff, beginning a full 20 paragraphs into the story:
For months, Israel said it would agree to a cease-fire only if its soldiers could screen the returning Palestinians for weapons as they moved from southern to northern Gaza. Then, in its May proposal, Israel softened that demand. While its position paper still stated that the returnees should not be “carrying arms while returning,” it removed the explicit requirement that Israeli forces screen them for weapons. That made the policy seem more symbolic than enforceable, prompting Hamas to agree to it. Israel’s July letter revived the question of enforcement, stating that the screening of people returning to the north would need to be “implemented in an agreed upon manner.”
So Netanyahu’s “demand” was that returnees be checked for weapons by some mutually agreed-upon process, with Hamas’s full consent.
Frankly I am surprised Netanyahu is being that flexible about checking returnees. The only reason Hamas would oppose including an even symbolic method of ensuring that returnees cannot be armed is that members of Hamas will be “returning” to northern Gaza along with the residents. That’s it—that’s the only reason. Hamas doesn’t want arms it cannot control in the hands of Palestinians who do not answer to it. Bibi’s demand is that Hamas at least agree on paper to an actual ceasefire, knowing full well that in any deal there would be holes a Hamasnik can drive a jeep through.
Speaking of which. Another sticking point in the negotiations appears to be whether Israel will abdicate its stewardship of a tunnel system Hamasniks have been driving jeeps through. In May, the Times writes, Israel “had suggested” it would withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor. Yet now, Netanyahu wants to keep IDF troops in the vicinity of this piece of the Gaza-Egypt border. What gives?
Well, a lot can happen in three months. Since that May proposal, Israel has discovered—and made public its discovery, which is key—of two dozen smuggling tunnels running under that part of the border with Egypt. The IDF even released a photo of a military truck driving through one. These tunnels are for moving weapons, terrorists, and supplies from Egypt to Gaza. They are quite literally Hamas’s lifelines.
The discovery of these tunnels was not necessarily surprising, but they do represent a black eye for Egypt, which has now been revealed to have been keeping Hamas alive and enabling it to keep the region at war. Now that the public is aware of the Egypt-Hamas collusion along the border, to whom should Israel hand off control of that crossing? Egypt? Hamas? It sounds like a rhetorical question.

How Can Leftists Vote For Harris?
Alt text:
People ask me: How can you vote for Harris if you're covid conscious a and support a free Palestine? Harris and Trump the same on these issues, and isn't genocide a line in the sand for you?
Let's break down my math so you know where I'm coming from.
If Trump wins, they won't say he won because he's the same as Harris. Why would they? They'll say he won because of the ways he's different. So if Trump and Harris are the same on Palestine and covid, this election won't be a referendum on either of those issues. It will be a referendum on the ways Trump and Harris are different.
They'll talk about Trump being more "business friendly", which will mean that people hated the way Biden and Harris and Waltz literally stood on picket lines with striking workers. They want the guy who's getting sued by auto union workers because he threatened to have them fired. They'll say we hate the way the Bide-Harris admin have gotten stolen wages back for over half a million workers. We hate that student loan forgiveness is moving forward and Harris says medical debt is next. They'll say that when the Biden-Harris admin appointed a Federal Trade Commissioner who started banning fake product reviews and investigating stores for high grocery prices and making companies that let you subscribe with one-click cancel those subscriptions with one click that we all get really mad. They'll say we didn't like the way that the Biden-Harris admin invested hundreds of billions into clean energy, that we don't want a clean energy transition, we want global warming to keep going as fast as it can.
They'll say Harris was too queer-friendly, she never should have picked a running mate who started a gay-straight alliance in a high school in the 90s. She should have picked the guy who calls it "grooming" to support gender affirmation for trans kids. They'll it was a mistake for her and Biden to make the civil rights division of the DOJ cover violations of queer rights queer rights and to make it illegal for foster parents to try and convert queer kids. As a former foster kid I especially hate this one. They'll say Biden and Harris should have never appointed someone in the Department of Education to fight book bans, because we don't think people should be reading queer books.
If Trump wins, after saying out loud on television that he's been on the phone with Netanyahu himself "almost every day" to sabotage Biden's ceasefire efforts, they won't say that your line in the sand was genocide.
