It always angers me when people say that men would not put in so much effort to enact their violence on women and children because they do exactly that.
I was only seven when I learnt about just how hard men try to deceive the world so they can have free reign over young girls. I went on a Brownie trip to an orphanage back when I lived in Nigeria. The orphanage was just for girls which isn't uncommon, and it was massive, with its own school, shops, clinic etc. The girls had no reason to leave. It was set up by a pastor- a Nigerian who'd moved back from abroad.
I remember while we were there, one of the girls had just had a baby. She had seemed so old to me but looking back, she must have been around sixteen or seventeen. I remember my mum seemed suspicious when we were told the girl had run away and returned pregnant. She seemed even more so when we met the owner.
A year or two later, there was news on the radio. The man who had set up the orphanage had raped and impregnated several girls, selling their babies to prospective parents. I didn't even understand what rape meant back then but I remember my mum being devastated. Looking back, I think she might have felt guilty, perhaps she'd seen the signs: the girls not being allowed to leave the compound; teenage girls ending up pregnant. It seemed so obvious.
But no one questioned a man who used all of his money to build and set up a home for vulnerable girls, he was a pastor, educated, well-travelled. He could never have done something so cruel. But he did.
When I was writing this post, I tried to find any articles but I couldn't. They were just so many identical cases, man sets up orphanage, rapes and abuses children in the orphanage. Different cases, different years, one as recent as 2023. What I learnt back then and know for sure is that men would do anything, no matter how difficult or expensive, anything to have access to people they can abuse.

Jason comes home as early AU where when that bullshit “poor little Timmy leaves and go home to his shitty family” stuff happens they just let him go and he’s never spoken of again because it was before he was adopted
He goes back to his boarding school, he doesn't drop out, and he continues to have a mediocre but ultimately non abusive relationship with his father.
Jason steps into the cave, sees the memorial, and attempts to detonate a bomb to take them all out right there. No winning for my man I fear.

The Lake House was underwater. The Marmonts' ambitions had finally been realized. Jules had dangled the painting like a lure and hooked an ocean. Their machines couldn't hold it. A fault in the system. The water rushed in. Filled it until it was ready to burst. All their successes and failures had led them here. The work had made them into monsters. But the Lake House was still theirs. It always would be. They could feel an outsider trespassing in their labs. "I know you're here." they called to the dark. They hunted, floor by floor. They wouldn't let the intruder stop their progress. This was their home. Their beloved tomb beneath the waves.

if you're terrified for your country's elections next year because a lot of people seem to think the solution to the government handling an international conflict in an abysmal and deplorable way is to let a group of total monsters who would handle it MUCH worse AND also potentially doom huge swaths of oppressed people at home as well as our entire literal planet get into power, by ignoring the way our deeply flawed but also deeply entrenched system realistically works
clap your hands...?
(I cannot understand trying to stop heinous and unnecessary killing- which disgusts and saddens me, too! how could it not?! -by handing the election to people who want to do even more of that exact thing. the math isn't mathing, as they say)

Bit of a shame I left hp before I entered svsss because one of my favourite tropes at the time was 'dumbledore calls in External Support from different fandom during ootp and they show up to grimmauld to help (and utterly upstage everyone in the process)'.
And needless to say Sqq, at any point, would have been perfect.
Like. He's a teacher too. A scholar. Secretly from the modern world so he'd have no trouble with its intricate and mysterious workings, incidentally making himself look very cool and competent in the process. He'd have So Many Opinions. He'd incite bloody war with umbridge. He'd project his feelings for sj onto Snape with a side of commiseration for his role and fate. He'd mostly pretend to know so much less about hp than he actually does (which, hilariously, he canonically name drops in svsss, AND his system is pretty heavily implied to have previously worked in, like wow). He'd be constantly comparing Harry with lbh. He'd have a running internal dialogue bemoaning the world building, the characters, Harry's fate, the general decision making process, maybe some death of the author. Geeking out about magic. Raiding the library whenever he's free.
He might bring his students as part of an exchange, he might bring a fellow peak lord if it was a serious mission (liushen anyone?) he could bring adult lbh. Maybe sqh? Or sqh could be the messenger with the system and/or mbj.
A self aware character who couldn't live with himself if he didn't at least try to change Harry's fate whether or not he actually likes the kid? He could canon that divergence before you could say horcrux. That kind, oblivious, smoking hot exotic teacher who had people ruining their lives for him in a world that was used to people that pretty and also hated him specifically?? The hogwarts students wouldn't stand a CHANCE.
Man the scenes are coming to me so strongly I almost want to write it just as a like. Satire piece or something. Just Sqq ripping everything to shreds, accidentally or not. Diatribes on the author biases. Unintentional themes. Iffy world building choices. Nothing new, but through the lens of svsss' Sqq it'd be something for sure XD.

HELP NEEDED—PLEASE READ
hi, Adam, here, and I’m speaking from my position in a movement to help save my college and our community. We need your help.
Goddard College, is a remarkable and vital learning institution that has brought tremendous social and economic value to Vermont, and has achieved much support and love from the wider Vermont community over the years.
For decades it’s provided a supportive student-focused environment and a strong community unlike any other college, transformed students into our best selves, and even saved lives.
Despite this it is currently in the process of being shut down by a board of trustees that has neglected their duties to operate in good faith and act in the best interest of the institution, to respect the contracts formed with both the faculty and staff unions, to honor their obligations to the students whose learning has been massively disrupted (and caused severe harm to students mental health) as well as to engage in good faith with all parties interested in acquiring the goddard name, academic program and campus.
The board have chosen a buyer for the campus. We’re doing the best we can but it’s been rough.
If you don’t have the energy to help that’s understandable, but for everyone who does there are three primary representatives we need to flood the inboxes of.
Becca balint (202) 225-4115)
Bernie sanders (202-224-5141)
Pete Welch (202-224-4242)
The goal is to get at least one of these representatives to actively sit down with us and discuss solutions. We need to call them *every day* until they meet with us at the Remake Goddard movement.
They asked me for my contact info afterwards. Forward anything they send you to [email protected].
Use this call script to guide your words on the call. https://docs.google.com/document/d/12Kwh4HrzKeLSmRglfUa7xUB3MLXa6_KqH4P0qX4m284/edit
Spread this to everyone you can. The more people who call in asking for the same thing, the better chance we have of getting it. The squeaky wheel gets the grease as they say. We need to be LOUD and we need to be IRRITATING.
We need help. Let’s get some.

Texas Republicans banned local governments from mandating water breaks for workers, Florida Republicans are trying to ban local governments from mandating heat protection for workers, and Kentucky Republicans are trying to repeal the state's mandated lunch and rest breaks for workers, and somehow Republicans are still getting away with presenting themselves as "the party of the working class"

Here's hoping your coworkers recognize the value of unionisation ASAP. :)
lol thanks 😂 four of us had a phone call with someone from the union yesterday, so some of them are engaged. Just not enough yet... and I'm worried this will be a case of bystander mentality where a big chunk of them won't be willing to do the bare minimum of signing up and instead just sit back, assuming that someone else (aka me) will do the work to fix it, and then eagerly accept any pay increase and rights we're able to achieve. So that's fun...
