The way Bruce sees Stephanie Brown makes me… go crazy. feel things Want to do things, I don't know what. Just… what an incredibly flawed man, and what an innocent girl who did nothing to deserve this. There is this girl and she is too much like your dead son and too much like you. She wanted you to save her and you didn't and now you have no way to save her, and you want to save her, but you're just too different to understand how to save her, and you can't, you just can't, save her the way she wants or the way she really needs . So she learned to save herself, and you can't, just can't, understand that because when you look you see her tombstone and it looks exactly like your son's tombstone. She wants to bring down her father and on a conceptual level you understand why but on an emotional level, it makes the child in you who just wants his parents back feel sick to his stomach. She has rage, so much rage, rage that you know all too well, but instead of giving her a balm for that rage and teaching her to manage it, you push her out because you are unable to see the reflection of your rage and pain in this girl. She doesn't understand that in your narrative, the only narrative that matters, her fate is predetermined and you watch her try to continue against fate and you try to stop her and fail. You have failed her in so many ways throughout her life and when you look at her you can't, just can't, see anything other than the fact that she is your personal failure, that every pain she went through is your personal failure. When you look at her you see nothing but your dead son and you try to prevent his death and you don't understand that it is not your son but a person in his own right. She is too wrapped up in her father's legacy and your failure and your dead son to be a person on her own. She is a self-fulfilling prophecy and like your son she returns, but unlike your son, she returns true. She comes back full of hope and love while your son came back broken and full of hate and you can't see it. So you let her do what she wants, you let her save herself the way she wants and needs because you never managed to save her, and you hate her deeply and you love her deeply and you don't know which you are more, love her or hate her. Sometimes you see her laughing with your beloved daughter and you wonder if in another world she could make you laugh too, sometimes you hear her talk about her college studies and think how your son never got to finish high school and how you would trade her for your son every moment of the day . If you could you would go back in time and save her when you still had the chance but you didn't save her and now you can never save her, and it doesn't matter that she saved herself because she shouldn't save herself, she's just a child. Just… Bruce's feelings towards Stephanie
#I'm sick to my stomach I'm throwing up#Bruce Wayne when I fucking catch you#dc#stephanie brown#bruce wayne#this post makes me think about one time when someone was arguing with me#Because I said that Bruce being a perfect father who never hurts the kids takes away so much of his relationship to the other bats#and they said that All of those characters can stand on their own and they don't need their relationship with Bruce at all#and so to define them by the ways he's hurt them doesn't make sense and it shouldn't reflect badly AT ALL on Bruce#and all I can think is. But they are. Bruce's narrative is inescapable#his pull on the plot and his presence within the universe cannot be brushed off#You cannot look at Steph's time as Robin or even Spoiler and say that she was not affected by the way Bruce treated her#the ways he has failed her is the building blocks of their relationship and neither of them will ever be able to move past that#the way Bruce has hurt the batkids isn't ALL they are#but to erase it ignores such fundamental aspects of the characters relationships and motivations#Anyway. This is just my daily dose of Bruce hating#Steph babygirl I'm so sorry every man is your life sucks and none of them were ever good enough for you

If Bruce killed Jason at the ending of UtH, as it is implied, and if Jason knows that he died, he' the one who keeps Bruce's biggest secret, the breaking of the no-kill rule.
And something something secrets make people grow closer, at the same time that an unwanted secret is also like an unwanted invasion of your space. So Jason is caught in this limbo where he's as closest as possible to Bruce for keeping that secret, but no actual closeness is actually there.

Hi! Can I ask about the Too Late au? I saw 2 of your posts about it and I'd love to read more 👀
Yes of course! The Too Late au was made by @perseus-jackass and the idea was that Dick's mission to space lasted WAY longer and by the time he got back to earth Tim was already Robin.
This au follows an angrier, more bitter version of Dick whose completely cut ties with Bruce and resents Tim for taking his brother's place. He's relying most on the Titans, who were closer to Jason before he died in this au.
If you're interested in angst, violent catharsis, revenge, and dysfunctional families, this au will be your bread and butter.
#dc#dick grayson#Jason Todd#bruce wayne critical#anti Tim Drake#kind of#Dick doesn't like him and he's not the focus so#Too Late au#ask

so I’m not a fan of Talia (this is important to my ask) but i see a lot of Talia fans. and i really want to ask, without anyone getting angry, why people are fans of her with her history?
the main things i know about her are how she drugged Bruce to make Damian in Batman and Son, and her relationship with Nyssa in Death and The Maidens.
is there more to it? i don’t want to explore on my own if its just that it’s never explained, is there an arc to reference or anything?
That arc is actually retconned because Grant Morrison admitted that it was racist characterization.
Talia had 30 years of characterization before Damian needed a sad backstory. She WASN'T raised as an assassin, she was studying to be a doctor when her and Bruce met. Because she was invented in the 70's she was modeled more after your typical bond girl, and leaned more towards spy than assassin. She hated killing and felt immense guilt the few times she had to.
Her and Bruce loved each other deeply, but Talia also loved her father. Ra's tends to get sanded down to "insane, cruel, and needlessly violent", but the whole point of the league is preserving the environment and endangered species. Talia agrees with his goal, but not his methods and this conflict is what allows Bruce to come between them.
For a lot of her history her main conflict is between the man she loves and the man who raised her, which changes in Damian's ORIGINAL origin, Son of the Demon. Bruce enthusiastically consents and is excited to have a baby with Talia, but Talia realizes that Bruce will never give up Batman and that whether she raises the child herself or gives him to Bruce he'll never get to have a normal life. So she tells Bruce she lost the baby and gives up Damian for adoption in secret.
The next big change in her character happens in JLA: Tower of Babel, explicitly said to be the FIRST time she's ever helped her father with one of his big schemes and she hates it. This marks her breaking point as she ditches Ra's entirely. This leads into President Luthor Secret Files where she takes over Lex Corp and GUTS it. Naturally Clark is suspicious of her, but she continues to help Bruce.
Then, Death and The Maidens happens. Talia is tortured and brainwashed. Batman, supposedly the world's greatest detective, explicitly said to LOVE Talia, sees this extreme shift in loyalties and behaviour, and leaves. Either not noticing or not caring. There is no resolution to this plotline.
Damian's nonconsensual origin follows this up on the basis that Talia's character after she's been brainwashed is just, who she is and who she's always been. Unfortunately it became her most popular story, and even though it's no longer canon it's done UNTOLD damage to her character.
Talia is so deeply compassionate and she cares so much for everyone and everything. She's endearing and she's insanely competent and her moments with Bruce are some of the most genuinely heart wrenching I've ever read. Batman Chronicles #8 continues to be one of my favorite comics EVER. I highly recommend you read her 70's-90's comics.

Transmasc Jason Todd who never had his period before dying because malnutrition+ generally being a late bloomer, getting his period somewhen in Lost Days/UTRH, getting really intense PMS and assuming it's Pit Rage because nobody told him pms was a thing so he's like "ah yes the violent mood swings, fatigue and feeling like any slight frustration will get me unreasonably upset and might send me over the edge. Probably a sign that I am cursed by the waters of evil and that I came back wrong."
#he's just like me fr#jason todd#dc#trans jason todd#transmasc jason todd#the real reason for Titans tower was tim saying “what are you on your period or something?”

They fuckin got me guys
Seeing those DC Tumblr posts put over like subway surfers or whatever is crazy because I've almost always already seen the post on my dash and at least half the time it's my mutuals post. Yesterday they got @glitter-stained and I've seen @panakina's a few times I always feel like a loyal knight venturing out into unknown lands and seeing the locals of a strange village making a theatre rendition of a royal decree in town square

“average batfamily member has two university degrees” factoid is actually just a statistical error. Barbara Gordon, who lives in the clocktower and gets a new university degree every time she is bored, is an outliner who should not be counted.

Feel like when Jason gets a bit more open around Harvey, he'll happily ramble about Jane Austen.
Inspired by the inky sort of style in this art by Sarvan_Ingen on Twitter. <3 (I failed at replicating it but it was fun at least).
