I think Jay knew that Dick smoked but Dick never smoked around him so Dick hears Jason's voice and starts panicking because his brain is lagging behind and for a second the only thing that matters is that his little brother with trauma surrounding drug use is seeing him high

“Why didn’t you call me.” It’s not a question. Dick’s voice is frigid.

Bruce exhales. “Nightwing…”

“No. I’m not talking to Batman, I’m asking Bruce why he didn’t call me. My little brother is dead!”

“You were in space.” Bruce finally turns around to look at Dick. His face is haggard and he has large bags under his eyes. “The mission—”

Dick laughs bitterly, stepping forward and jabbing a finger in Bruce’s chest. “I don’t give a fuck about the mission. You had his funeral without me. You buried my little brother and I wasn’t there! And neither were any of his friends!”

“I don‘t—”

“And why the hell is there some new kid running around dressed as Robin?”

“Tim is—”

“I don’t care who he is! I care that you’ve stuffed another kid in that suit! Into my colors. The colors I gave to my little brother. The colors that got him killed.”

“Jason was reckless!” Bruce snaps. “I’m going to train Tim better, he won’t fail like that.”

Dick stiffens.

“I’m *sorry,* what did you just say?”

He repeats himself. “Jason was reckless. Tim will be better”

“How dare you.” Dick hisses, stepping closer to Bruce. “How dare you. Jason wasn’t reckless! He called me, did you know that? Left a voicemail. He ran because you benched him. He thought being your son was contingent on him being your Robin.”

Bruce’s face goes ashen. “Dick—”

“No. I can’t even look at you right now. And I think you’re making a mistake with the new Robin, but I can’t stop you can I? Even though that’s my name. Does Batman ever consider the feelings of others? Of course not!”

Dick turns around to leave, but before he takes more than a few steps something catches his eye.

“What’s that.” His voice is almost silent as he walks forward, stopping in front of the glass case.

“Dick—”

“A good soldier. A good soldier.”

Dick turns back to face Bruce, face unreadable.

“Is that really how you see us? Soldiers in your crusade against crime? Is that all we are? What happened to being your sons?”

Bruce opens his mouth, but gets cut off.

“No, no, soldiers are disposable aren’t they? You can cut us off when we disagree, you don’t have to mourn us when you get us killed.

CRACK

Bruce backhands him.

Dick laughs and spits blood at his feet, ears ringing.

“Don’t you dare blame me for Jason’s death!”

“No? You were the one that made him your soldier. My brother is dead because of you.”

Dick turns on his heel and marches towards the exit of the cave. “Don’t call me unless the world is ending. In fact don’t call me even then. Have Diana call Donna. And don’t even think about sending the little cuckoo bird to train with the Titans.”

(I know Tim does temporarily end up with the Titans for a bit but that last line wrote itself)

Somewhere on the other side of the city, John Doe lays numbly in a hospital bed. Through the window he catches a glimpse of black and blue, bouncing and flipping, backlit by rolling thunder. He tries to yell, he thrashes in the hold of the wires piercing his skin, but his collapsed vocal cords let no sound escape.

When the nurses come rushing in, one of them is different. She is not a blurry face barely separate from the background, she is soft eyes and rough hands and a familiar accent. He doesn't understand all the words, but she says "safe" and "home" and he believes her. She calls him Jason and it's so foreign he almost doesn't recognize it.

I have an addition to the scene for the late au, specifically to the scene where Tim says something stupid and Rose has to be held back but Eddie gets him.

DICK SHOWS UP AFTER EDDIE GETS PULLED OFF TIM

Dick looked around the room, trying to figure out what happened. Roy and Joey were both holding on to Rose, stopping her from doing something. Eddie’s chest was heaving and he looked angry. The kid (not Robin, never Robin) was disheveled and glaring at Eddie.

“What happened?”

“He— he—” Rose was practically shaking with rage.

Eddie was the one to answer. “He said Jay was reckless and got himself killed.”

Dick froze.

“And that he was a disgrace to the Robin mantle.”

Before he realized what he was doing, Dick had the kid pinned to the wall.

“Don’t you ever— don’t you ever say something like that. You don’t know what that name means. You wouldn’t know if it hit you in the face.”

“I’m Robin now!” The kid protested.

Dick glared and the kid’s mouth clicked shut.

“No. You aren’t. You might use the name and wear the colors, but Robin is mine. And I sure as hell never gave it to you. Robin died with my little brother. You’re nothing but a cheap copy. A replacement.”

The kid’s eyes widened and Dick let go of him, shoving him towards the door. “Go back to Gotham. And tell the Bat that neither of you are welcome here.”

Bruce tries to call Dick to ask what the fuck happened but Dick has blocked all his numbers and he knows better than to call one of the other Titans

finally put together something for my own headcanons for their voices : ) you can see this as two options for them or that their voices are a middle ground of both!

galileo to me has a somewhat flat affect but still Very silly and has a range for dramatics. angel has a gravely voice and Very energetic and intense. (also i think bismuth's squeaky lil' laugh is so cute and i think it really fits her 😭)

caravaggio has an Anime Cooler Older Brother voice. ...if you get what i mean. i don't really know genshin, but itto is such a good mix of that confidence and awkwardness! and newton's voice is very chill, very peppy, and direct.

parmi has that "showman" type of voice, yknow!! kind of sounds a bit artificial no matter what he's really feeling. don and raph mostly talk directly through titian (i had an awful amount of trouble mixing don and raph voice lines that didn't sound bad so please just imagine i did that) but titian's "voice" for itself is all cool hydraulic and dinosaur noises

and of course gali being abed and newton being troy is a reference to how those two were inspirations for donnie and mikey's rise dynamic. if any of yall had any different ideas or voice claims you imagined, feel free to share!

Jason finding out Willis is wingman bc he shows up and clocks Bruce in the face screaming about one of the MANY awful things he did to Jason (dealers choice) and he referred to Jason as “HIS son”

20 dead 48 injured this is one of very few times Jason doesn't think at all. He throws a smoke bomb at Bruce and then drags Willis back to his apartment.

Jason is trying not to cry so hard he throws up and he's not really succeeding. His dad is here! Willis is alive and he looked for Jason and he brought him back to Gotham, back home, he knows who Jason is and what he does and still loves him, still wanted to protect him.

Willis has practiced this moment a million times but nothing prepares you for being truly face to face with your son, no masks and no fake names. Both of you thought you'd lost the other forever but here you both are. He chokes up and all he can do is tell Jason he's sorry, that he loves him, that he's proud of him.

They talk about everything that's happened, what they've done and who they are now. And neither of them knows what to do because what the fuck.

Jason's dad was a victim of prison experimentation? He's going to kill every single one of them. He's going to shove those fucking syringes so far up all their asses they'll vomit them out.

God, Willis knew it would be bad, but he really couldn't have imagined. His son really died. No fake outs, no smoke or mirrors. Sheila really had sold out their son to a madman, watched him be tortured, and Jason still tried to save her. He's going to spit on her grave but first he's going to make his son some hot chocolate or something Christ. HE CRAWLED OUT OF HIS GRAVE! His son woke up in a box and clawed his way out, half dead and crying for a man Willis has grown to truly hate. He doesn't know what to think about the assassins. Sure he's tangoed with a few in his day but what the fuck he never went on Murder Tour to learn their tricks. Never managed to kill one either, but he supposes Jason has always defied expectations.

Jason is going to be very busy for the next few weeks and Willis is about to take his hate public by giving an interview to the gazette.
