Personally, I like the differences between high school Bernard and current Bernard as to me current Bernard seems like a more mature and mellowed out version of his high school self who was more arrogant and pretentious.

Like yeah the writers could emphasize his quirkyness more to make the transition from high school Bernard to current adult Bernard better but I still feel it at least makes sense that he grew up off screen.

However, I'm mainly talking about this because I love the idea of closeted high school Bernard trying so hard to impress Tim by acting all cool and unique (calling himself a roving ambassador between cliques for example). He probably also acted smart and all-knowing when talking about his conspiracy theories to try to impress Tim and Darla as well. Sadly, I think this had the opposite effect and mostly just annoyed Tim though 😅

I don't think at that point Bernard realized just why he always wanted to try and impress Tim so much. It was only later when he matured more that he realized he was super gay for Tim
