Some of my favorite easy and fast foods/snacks for $5 or less that aren't ramen and spaghetti:
Couscous. You can get boxed couscous for like $3 and it's enough for 2-3 side dishes at least and takes literally 5 minutes and no extra ingredients. You can get large containers of it for like $5 at Walmart too so you can season however you want. A nice grain that's easy to digest and pairs well with almost anything.
Popcorn. Everyone's favorite healthy junk food that can satisfy most cravings. You can usually get a box for like $4 or a jar of kernels for like $6.
Oats. Whole oats. Extremely versatile. Put them in smoothies, make cookies, granola, snack bars/balls, brownies, oatmeal, etc. Truly the best bland fiber and filler out there. You can even easily make your own oatmilk for super cheap by blending them with water and straining!
Frozen veggies. Last for months in the freezer and usually under $2 a bag. Not great if you prefer raw veggies, but if you are fond of sautéed or roasted ones, save some money and just get them frozen.
Chocolate chips. Cheaper than chocolate bars and you get a lot more chocolate. Perfect for those cravings!
Powdered potatoes. I know I know but if you ignore the package directions and put some butter and milk and seasonings in it, you can't tell. Ready in like 2 minutes and you get a shit ton of mashed potatoes for like $2.
Vegan Mac and cheese. I'm lactose intolerant and so I will forever be thankful for the vegan movement of the early 2010s for making nondairy products easier to find and more affordable. Vegan Mac and cheese literally tastes the exact same and bakes so well. Annie's so far has been my favorite brand and they have other pastas with sauces too like squash which is so good.
Crepes. You can make your own batter for cheap but who likes all them dishes? You can find pre-made crepes for like $3 for 10.
Apples. You can find 2lb bags of these for $3 at a lot of places. I never knew they were so cheap and I go through phases where I'll eat like 4 a day.
Lunch meat. Packs of turkey cost like $4. I use turkey on so much. Bagels, omelets, salads, sandwiches, wraps, croissants, etc.
Ready to bake pastries. I'm not a big bread person but croissants ready to bake have my whole heart and cinnamon rolls can really help make a bad day a little better.
Pretzels. I'm an absolute whore for Pretzels and eat so many of these things. They're so easy to pack for snacks for class or anything really. I can't go two weeks without them.
Rice crisps. Rice cakes are great but they're big and crumbly and get stale if you don't close the bag JUST right. But little Rice crisps??? Elite. They come in so many flavors and are super crunchy and they're just super cute too and they're bogo a lot at publix.
Frozen potstickers. You can get them for so cheap and I have a giant bag of them in my freezer right now that I got for like $7. I usually get smaller portions for $4 or so though but decided to splurge and get 3lbs of them cus why not.
Frozen shrimp. A bag of extra small Frozen shrimp is about $5 at Walmart. Eat them thawed and cold or put them in pastas or rice or Soups. They're a staple in my house.
These are just a few I could think of off the top of my head. Please add to the list!

patience Parker soundsso funny to me i want to hear about patience Parker. if ud like .
Ok hi im here to yap finally. You just happened to ask about the one person mentioned I didn’t really have any sort of idea of what they look like so I had to ponder a respectable enough design to show off. Patience Parker. Mary-Crane Watson’s “”close female friend””.
She is a byproduct of what I’m now realizing is my favorite way to make “ocs” which is someone posits a guy as a joke and then yes and-ing with a friend until we get attached to the really stupid idea/joke. Which you know what. Probably in the spirit of Wiz lmao.
Patience! She keeps a decent herd (?) of giant spiders as livestock and harvests and spins their silk into usable fibers. Lucian never really cared for them but even he could acknowledge the Night Forest doesn’t lend itself to a ton of options. Goats and sheep are very heavily relied on for meat, milk, and fabric, yes, but they’re always looking at you. Tempting you to “live deliciously” or something. Well the creatures of the forest eat enough people as is, no one needs to get any tastier. She honestly came to mind because I was wondering what kind of food and goods would be viable in the Night Forest. The silk is the main product, but you’d honestly be surprised at how many people can’t tell the difference between spider eggs and chicken eggs. Absolutely no one. …But they made good bait! So there’s that.
She’s a very… close friend of Mary-Crane. It’s really nice, the sense of community, seeing these two widows be so close and supportive of eachother. It was a tragedy when Patience’s husband, Guin Stacy fell to the Malughast. His family was from Heap originally, the Night Forest doesn’t get all too many converts, so he did always stand out. Hard to run from beasts and ghosts when you can only manage a waddle :(. It was even sadder when not a week later Mary-Cranes husband took a tumble into the spider pen. You can only tame them to such an extent. A tragic accident, for sure.
I think she’s on the more lighthearted side as far as Night Forest residents go, but she’s still a fantasy puritan, isn’t she. She’s not friendly to Solomon, but she’s not as outwardly viscous as some. If he was a competent monster slayer she’d still be married, no? Not that she’d ever admit that
#shout out to pastel kind colors for coming up with the name Guin Stacy i haven’t been able to stop thinking about it#which is the spirit of how most of these guys come about.#the only design note I really have is I tried to make her glasses look like the Spider-Man mask things bc it’s cute to me#Why not tag this idgaf#wizard101#my art#my ocs#I GUESS?#hobby of mine is yapping too long no one’s reading all that#oh the red isn’t makeup in my mind it’s just natural eyelid coloration#I wanted to stylize them into looking more like actual cranes#slightly

A nutritious and balanced breakfast is essential to kickstart your day and provide you with the energy and nutrients you need to stay focused and productive. Here are some of the best foods to eat in the morning to fuel your body and mind:
1. Whole grains: Opt for whole grain cereals, oatmeal, or whole grain toast to provide you with complex carbohydrates that release energy slowly throughout the morning, keeping you full and satisfied.
2. Protein-rich foods: Include sources of protein such as eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, or nut butter to help build and repair muscles, keep you full longer, and stabilize blood sugar levels.
3. Fruits and vegetables: Incorporate a variety of fruits and vegetables into your breakfast for a boost of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Berries, bananas, spinach, and avocado are excellent choices.
4. Nuts and seeds: Add nuts and seeds like almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, or flaxseeds to your breakfast for a dose of healthy fats, protein, and fiber, which can help keep you full and satisfied.
5. Dairy or dairy alternatives: Include dairy products like milk, yogurt, or cheese for a good source of calcium and protein. If you are lactose intolerant or prefer plant-based options, opt for alternatives like almond milk, soy yogurt, or oat milk.
6. Healthy fats: Incorporate sources of healthy fats such as avocado, olive oil, or nut butter into your breakfast to support brain health, boost satiety, and provide sustained energy.
7. Hydration: Don't forget to hydrate in the morning by drinking water, herbal tea, or a green smoothie to kickstart your metabolism and stay hydrated throughout the day.
By incorporating a combination of these nutrient-rich foods into your morning routine, you can fuel your body with the essential nutrients it needs to support optimal health, energy levels, and cognitive function. Remember to listen to your body's hunger cues and choose foods that make you feel nourished and energized to start your day off right.

Plant-Based Benefits and Tips!
A couple of lovely people asked for some elaboration on plant-based eating! I studied nutrition & dietetics in college before I dropped out so I'm not a professional in nutrition but I do have a broad understanding of the biochemistry behind what we eat.
This is kind of a long post, so continue under the cut!
Starting with the basics!
I aim for a more whole foods plant-based diet, which is essentially a low-fat diet that focuses on removing all animal products, limiting processed food, and minimizing oils.
Looking at micronutrients, both protein and carbs have about 4 calories per gram, but oil has 9 calories per gram. Low-fat diets are often easier to manage calories on, as you can fill up on a higher volume of protein and carbs (specifically fiber) to reach satiety, whereas processed/high-fat foods are higher in calories per serving, meaning you get less volume.
You DO need fat in your diet, but it's preferable to reach for nuts, seeds, avocados, etc. instead of oil, which is comparatively nutritionally void.
FIBER IS YOUR BESTIE. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are low in calories meaning you can eat more of them, reaching satiety faster than you would with something processed. Fiber makes your digestive system happy. Be sure to incorporate more plants into your diet gradually so your digestive system can adjust.
Let's talk about animal products...
They are inflammatory by nature. If it comes from an animal, particularly red meat and ESPECIALLY processed meat, it will cause stomach issues in most people.
Fun fact, we are biologically closer to herbivores than carnivores. Our digestive tracts are much longer and our stomachs are less acidic than a carnivore's, meaning we are designed to most efficiently digest plant matter. Carnivores, on the other hand, have short digestive tracts and significantly more acidic stomachs for breaking down flesh and bone. This is why many people experience gastrointestinal discomfort when consuming meat. This leads to bloating, gas, and constipation. We are omnivores because we CAN consume animal products for survival, but it is nowhere near optimal.
Dairy is highly inflammatory and is directly linked to hormonal cancers (breast, prostate, etc.) It is also high in saturated fat, which is inflammatory. When we are born, we have the "gene" necessary to process breastmilk, but for many people, as we age, this "gene" gets switched off. Past infancy, we don't need milk (or other dairy products) because we can get our nutrients from other food sources. Black and Asian individuals have the highest rates of lactose intolerance. Not to mention, dairy is full of foreign bacteria, especially from factory farms, which causes an immune response in the body, leading to further inflammation.
Eggs are saturated fat and cholesterol bombs. They're high in protein, sure, but you can get protein and a wide variety of other nutrients from things like tofu.
To summarize, animal products are high in fat, high in cholesterol, high in calories, and cause inflammation, bloating, gas, and of course, constipation. Eating whole foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans/legumes, tofu, nuts, and seeds will boost your fiber intake, fill you with antioxidants, foster healthy gut bacteria, and reduce gastrointestinal issues.
Make sure you add more plants to your diet GRADUALLY. If you immediately go full force into eating plant-based, your stomach will experience distress due to the sudden increase in fiber, creating gas and bloating. But this will subside, and you'll feel better overall!
I highly recommend listening to seminars on YouTube by Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Michael Greger, Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, and Linda Davis RD to learn more in depth about what I've talked about.
Extra tips:
An air fryer is going to change your life when it comes to cooking without oil and making stuff taste good and have a better texture! I use mine multiple times a day.
TOFU!!! I'm a soy addicts, and tofu is my favorite source of protein. There's so many ways to prepare it, too!
Berries are so nutrient dense and delicious-- nature's candy!
There's honestly nothing wrong with protein powder even though it's processed. Just be sure to opt for vegan protein powder so you aren't loading your body with whey.
Stevia is a godlike sweetener, imo.
Eat a wide variety of different plants to diversify your gut microbiome and to get a variety of vitamins and minerals!
Take care of yourselves :') 💚🌿 I may add to this post as more things pop in my head!
When I tell you it's so goddamn easy to do dishes when you don't cook with oil 😭
Don't drink alcohol... this is the most hypocritical thing I can say lmao but it will wreak havoc on your gut microbiome

Snowbird Ann here: x_x I have Fennel growing in my front yard. That stuff...it tastes like black licorice and it's stringy like celery. But when it goes dormant, it leaves stalks that would be great building materials. Med cat/builders could get a fresh stalk, soak it in water to make it bendy and shape it into whatever. If I remember I'll go out and snap a picture of the dormant Fennel tomorrow.
Fennel is actually suuuuuuuuper useful for dozens of reasons. It's related to parsley and has been naturalized all over the world because humans find it so useful.
The cats could use it for:
-Funerals This herb can be STINKY. This could absolutely be one of the funeral herbs that elders rub onto the deceased, especially since it's non-toxic.
-Cooking It's full of fiber meaning it can be a good supplement even for cats, if not consumed in excess. It's also got potassium, manganese, calcium... They can't taste sweet but that licorice-y flavor would come across just fine. It's actually used in sausages a lot.
-Alcohol If your Warriors drink responsibly. And know how to distill. Mead made from honey would still be easier but fennel was used for health tonics in the middle ages... and then eventually got used to make absinthe.
-Insect repellent This one's actually huge because the OTHER big bad bug buster is mint... and all mint is toxic to cats. This is a really good non-toxic insect repellent for warriors next to lavender.
-"Toothpaste" Not like, a PASTE but, a sort of... sticky mouthwash poultice. Fennel's actually super good for oral health, eliminates bad breath, and fights plaque buildup; and remember, Our Friends Mint & Co is toxic to cats. You can make it into an oil and help a warrior with a gum problem. It's especially good at fighting streptococcus, which is one of the most common infectious bacteria in wild cats.
-General medicinal purposes Helping clean eye infections is just one medicinal use, fennel is useful for all sorts of ailments. It's anti-inflammatory, it's antibacterial (but not as good as honey), can help with digestion...
Historically it's also been associated with helping to treat colic in babies and estrogen-related issues like menopause and milk production, which is actually NOT proven with modern studies... but I think the idea is just cool enough to hand wave the science away, I would use it just to have an herb for colicky kits. It's weird that colic has never shown up in canonical kits before!
But...
Building use?
Probably not. You've noticed it's stringy-- that's actually where fennel gets its name. Fennel = Foenum = Latin for Hay. It's more like hay in consistency than twine and would be too soft to build with.
For strong material, you're just gonna want plain old wood. Twigs, branches, anywhere you can find fennel you're also going to find bushes or trees that'll make better beams.
For twine? Skip the fennel entirely with its short stalks and just get some tall grass. Or, if you've got long-haired cats, they can make yarn out of shed fur if they collect enough of it. Better yet, if you've got access to flax? Then you're REALLY cooking with fire, that bad boy can be made into fabric, rope, clothing... Don't even get me STARTED on industrial hemp, you could weave reality itself out of that popstar. Paper, clothes, canvas, shampoo, lamp oil, rope, bombs, you want it? It's YOURS my friend--
Anyway
TL;DR stick to the herbal uses for fennel. You're better letting dormant fennel re-grow because it's better in the paws of your medcats than your warriors.
#gonna get me monologuing about fennel over here#fennel#fennel uses#Clan Culture#Warrior Cats#Clan Herbs#Medicine cats#BY THE WAY I always tag stuff like this as Clan Culture#Anything I do that's a sort of ''Here's how Warrior Cats could use this thing'' post I tag it as clan culture#I do have other posts like this if you guys ever want references for fanclans#Also this is absolutely why my favorite parts of warriors are always problem solving segments#Yessss Sandgorse talk to me about digging#I want to know about how you shore up the walls of your tunnels and about the benefits of hitting a clay seam#My ideal WC super edition is me being beamed between Brackenfur and Dustpelt as they reinforce the nursery for the 100th time#The rest of the fanbase would be in hell but I would be in heaven#I could ascend to StarClan happy#I would reinforce their nursery up there

Digital monsters
Sneaking a few in before April's done and gone. Many of these musics were experienced digitally only for the most part, whether it was due to lack of a physical product or expensive import prices, none of which now apply (except for the Stone Rollers) as I finally get around to posting this. Ian's making Light Metal Age tapes, MIKE just put Pinball on CD, I finally pulled the trigger on KNÆKKET SMIL, etc. Still, the car is the place where most listening is done these days, an unavoidable and really-not-that-bad reality. Windows down, these up:
Maria Bertel & Nina Garcia, KNÆKKET SMIL (Kraak/No Lagos Musique/Otomatik)
It would not be much of an understatement to say I'm a bit burned out on free-improv-jazz and adjacent records, but a live video posted earlier this year by @dustedandsocial piqued my interest in this duo. Nina Garcia shreds and mangles the guitar in a manner both controlled and explosive, like the best no wave auteurs, but the draw here is what Maria Bertel does with the trombone. She pulls these long, drawn-out notes from the belly of the instrument, like glass fibers being pulled from a melt, reminiscent Phill Niblock's arrangements for cello or voice. There's plenty of scrape 'n skronk coming from the trombone, too, like on "Trick & Illusion," but I find the bass-y drones to be more interesting. The end result is a brittle, harsh push-pull between the relatively free guitar and the more grounded trombone, where it often sounds like the two are running in circles in a room with their eyes closed, occasionally colliding to combine forces. When they are not at odds, as on "Nightmare of a Lunatic," the results can be thrilling. At other points on the record I am reminded of Harvey Milk's "Pinnochio's Example" (the title track), later-period Sightings ("Lost Arts," "Twin Truths") and the instrumental side of Khanate ("Playground of Blind Forces," "Inorganic Body"). Given how this is presented - bare, without any perceivable ornamentation or post-production - it makes for a tough listen; you've gotta be in the mood for something this harsh and unadorned, 'cause meeting you halfway isn't happening. But, if you've any affinity for old instruments hammered into new shapes by inspired/inspiring hands, there's some powerful, almost-mystic energy wafting from the grooves.
Bobby Would, Relics of Our Life (Digital Regress)
Bobby’s back, continuing his partnership with the esteemed Digital Regress label, who brought his STYX release to the LP format. STYX was dedicated to his mother, and initial listens have left me convinced that Relics also appears to be wrestling with her passing. Unlike STYX, which contained tracks like "Hype On" that worked themselves into something resembling upbeat and energetic, Relics is a comparatively somber affair. It's bookended by two quiet instrumental tracks ("Runaway" is especially good), and in between is more skeletal, maybe even refined, version of Bobby Would. The overall effect here is often reminiscent of Wonderfuls, or Lewsberg on In Your Hands: gossamer-thin arrangements, sparkling guitars, slow tempos and mumbled vocals. While there are points where Bobby Would presents as a bit listless or hopeless, it never stretches to the maudlin, mostly due to the opaque phrasing. As on previous BW releases, the lyrics are still usually little more than repetition of single phrases until they become profound, which works especially well on these subdued arrangements. The more I listen, the more it sounds like a natural progression from his last two proper LPs, the subtle refinement of a now-signature sound. Like “Maybe You Should” from World Wide World, “Tryin' 2," "Is It Nice Now?" and “No More” rank with some of his best slow dancers; "Explain" and "All I Do" feel like Baby's grown now, using only the necessary elements to create a song and cutting the tape when it's done (not that Bobby Would has ever had a problem with economy). The only misstep here? The hidden track at the end of the physical record, a cover of UB40's "Red Red Wine" (no fucking joke), and nothing more need be said about that. The nine tracks that properly make up Relics of Our Life deserve to be lived in, spindly guitar lines swirling around like smoke and mumbled vocal incantations taking you elsewhere for the duration. Another unassuming gem from the surprisingly durable Bobby Would.
Light Metal Age, s/t (self-released)
In retrospect, I think Gen Pop's PPM66 is one of the best records to come out in the past decade, wringing modern ennui by the neck to squeeze out lyrical inspiration, nailing down a balance between catchy and smart in an impressively effortless way. That record flew, and still flies, under the radar, unfortunately, and the band is no more. Light Metal Age is the new project of Gen Pop's Ian Patrick Corrigan, and it sorta picks up the thread of PPM66, but veers off into the countrified black humor of Country Teasers ("Quil Ceda"), lonesome new age ("Oakland 2017"), and a chilling minimal synth track ("Garage In Meridian"). Corrigan's vocals sound like Bill Callahan in his early days as Smog, but in content he appears to be searching for a place or meaning or some sign that the world isn't as backwards and cruel as it actually is. I think opener "What He's Done" is my favorite song of the year so far, a perfectly dusty guitar line paired with deep, reverberated vocals coldly presenting a personal inventory (“Tattoos since he was 20,” “$20K he owes/20 years to go”). It’s all tied together by the chorus of “You said let it go/But do you know/what he’s done?,” the anxiety of being a prisoner of your past neatly summarized. “Quil Ceda" is my other standout favorite, the biting line "It will make you sick" now popping up in my head all too often as I go about my days. Really, there's something to like on every track here: the double-timed portion toward the end of "T.U.L.I.P."; the rain-soaked, pre-dawn alleys conjured by "Garage In Meridian"; and the subdued Ben Wallers impression on "Gaps In the Material." Sure, "Oakland 2017" is maybe a bit long and saps momentum plopped in the middle, but this seems more like a mixtape than a finished product, and I've come to appreciate the cracks in the tracks forced together. I've been playing it non-stop for nearly two months now, a potent distillation of the young American's modern struggle, laid out without self-pity and the right amount of simmering discontent. Can't ask for much more.
MIKE & Tony Seltzer, Pinball (10K)
Here’s an unexpectedly economical and breezy offering from MIKE, produced entirely by Tony Seltzer. Not sure what Tony Seltzer did here to allow MIKE to let down his guard and puff out his chest a little, but it’s a welcome change of pace, if a bit forgettable. Seltzer’s beats aren’t going to have many rappers come calling, but they’re exciting enough jumping off points for MIKE to try on different personas. I get hints of UGK-era Bun-B (named checked in “Underground Kingz,” as required), Young Dolph, and Lil Baby in MIKE’s rapping on Pinball, and it’s fun and jarring to hear him rap over trap beats like “Yin-Yang.” For all his efforts, the album lags in spots - “100 Gecs,” “Underground Kingz” and “R&B” have become laborious over multiple listens, the beats sputtering, the rapping losing steam without MIKE’s usual emotional overflow. But the opener “Two Door,” the unassuming bounce of “Skurrr” and "Pinball," and the Niontay-featuring “2k24 Tour” still connect, MIKE throwing off a satin boxing robe and sparring with whoever. It’s true that overexposure to this album over the past few weeks has probably taken away some of its luster, but hearing MIKE in this capacity paints a more complete picture of him as an artist. Short ‘n mostly sweet, with no tears, Pinball’s sure to be a steady listen through the punishing summer ahead.
The Stone Rollers, The Ballad of Bill Spears (self-released)
Are the Woolen Men done? Nothing official on that, but members are shifting priorities to other groups: guitarist Lawton Browning is in Change Life, and the Stone Rollers features WM drummer Raf Spielman. The Stone Rollers have been releasing single tracks, one at a time, since September of last year, and The Ballad of Bill Spears puts all four tracks together. It's a separate project and unfair to compare the two, though there are strong sonic similarities to the Woolen Men. The Stone Rollers are bouncy and hard-strumming, somewhere between folk protest songs (yes, there's harmonica) and country with a punk edge (but obviously not as bad as that descriptor conjures). In the spirit of the best country songs, the Stone Rollers don't restrain themselves from saying some really mean shit on these songs, taking people to task with an acid tongue and leaving without apology. I like all four songs - if you're not listening to the lyrics too closely, these are breezy pop songs with the strong character of the '60s - but I think "The Shell Song" and "You Can't Reach Me" are the two best. The former has the harshest lyrics ("When I see you down the line, I hope you're not the same" and "I won't wait around to see what you become/because good or bad I do not care at all"), and "You Can't Reach Me" is an ode to the dream of escaping "my life/bound up so tight" for the greener grass. All four tracks are simple and effective/affecting in an immediate way, familiar but bristling, classic-sounding but unmistakably modern. A nice teaser from the Rollers, who I can only hope will excoriate this feeble review on an upcoming track.

Plant-Based Sources of Calcium:
For individuals who follow a plant-based or dairy-free diet, it's important to be aware of alternative sources of calcium. Here are some of the best plant-based sources to consider:

4. Tofu and Tempeh:
Tofu and tempeh, both derived from soybeans, are excellent plant-based sources of calcium. These versatile protein sources are widely used in vegetarian and vegan cooking and can be incorporated into a variety of dishes.
5. Fortified Plant-Based Milk Alternatives:
Many plant-based milk alternatives, such as almond milk, soy milk, and oat milk, are fortified with calcium to provide a comparable amount to dairy milk. Be sure to check the labels to ensure adequate calcium content.

Chocolate-Covered Nuts: The Perfect Blend of Sweet and Savory
Chocolate-covered nuts are a delicious treat that combines the best of both worlds: rich, creamy chocolate and crunchy, nutritious nuts. From almonds and cashews to hazelnuts and pecans, chocolate-covered nuts come in various forms, each with unique flavors and textures. In this blog, we’ll explore the different types of chocolate-covered nuts, discuss their health benefits, and provide tips on selecting the best quality. Whether enjoyed as a snack, a gift, or an ingredient in desserts, chocolate-covered nuts are a perfect balance of indulgence and nutrition.
The Appeal of Chocolate-Covered Nuts
There’s a reason chocolate-covered nuts are popular worldwide—they offer an irresistible combination of sweet, savory, and crunchy in each bite. Here’s why they’re such a hit:
Rich Texture: The smooth, creamy chocolate contrasts beautifully with the crunch of the nuts, making every bite satisfying.
Versatile Flavor: The chocolate coating enhances the nutty taste without overpowering it, allowing the flavors to shine through.
Perfect for Gifting: Chocolate-covered nuts make excellent gifts, suitable for almost any occasion, from birthdays to holidays.
Types of Chocolate-Covered Nuts
With so many varieties available, chocolate-covered nuts cater to all taste preferences. Here are some of the most popular types:
1. Chocolate-Covered Almonds
Almonds are one of the most popular nuts for chocolate coating. Their naturally sweet and mild flavor pairs well with both dark and milk chocolate. Almonds are also rich in fiber and vitamin E, adding a touch of healthiness to the indulgence.
2. Chocolate-Covered Cashews
Cashews have a creamy texture that works perfectly with chocolate. When coated in milk or dark chocolate, cashews offer a smooth and satisfying bite. They’re high in magnesium, which is essential for muscle and nerve function.
3. Chocolate-Covered Hazelnuts
Hazelnuts are a classic pairing with chocolate, thanks to their rich, nutty flavor. Chocolate-covered hazelnuts are especially popular in gourmet chocolate shops. Dark chocolate, in particular, pairs well with hazelnuts, offering a balanced flavor profile.
4. Chocolate-Covered Pecans
Pecans have a natural sweetness and buttery texture, making them a great match for chocolate. These nuts pair beautifully with dark chocolate, offering a sophisticated taste. Pecans are also high in antioxidants, which support heart health.
5. Mixed Chocolate-Covered Nuts
For those who like variety, mixed chocolate-covered nuts provide an assortment of flavors and textures. You can enjoy the combination of almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, and pecans, each with a unique taste when paired with chocolate.
Health Benefits of Chocolate-Covered Nuts
While chocolate-covered nuts are often considered a treat, they also offer a range of health benefits when consumed in moderation:
1. Heart Health
Nuts are rich in monounsaturated fats, which can help reduce bad cholesterol levels, supporting overall heart health. Almonds and walnuts, in particular, have been shown to promote cardiovascular health.
2. Nutrient Density
Nuts contain essential nutrients like fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals. For instance, almonds are high in vitamin E, while cashews provide a good amount of magnesium. These nutrients support various bodily functions, including immune health and energy production.
3. Antioxidant Benefits
Dark chocolate contains antioxidants known as flavonoids, which are beneficial for heart health. When paired with nuts, you get an extra boost of antioxidants that help fight free radicals in the body.
4. Satiety and Satisfaction
The fat, protein, and fiber in nuts make chocolate-covered nuts a satisfying snack that can help curb hunger and prevent overeating. This balance makes them a more nutritious option than purely sweet treats.
How to Choose the Best Chocolate-Covered Nuts
Not all chocolate-covered nuts are created equal. Here are some tips for selecting the highest quality treats:
Look for Real Chocolate: Opt for options that use real dark, milk, or white chocolate rather than chocolate-flavored coatings. This ensures better flavor and quality.
Check the Ingredients: High-quality chocolate-covered nuts should have minimal ingredients. Look for nuts, cocoa, sugar, and perhaps a bit of sea salt or flavoring, without excessive additives or preservatives.
Opt for Dark Chocolate: Dark chocolate has a higher cocoa content and fewer added sugars than milk chocolate, making it a healthier choice. Dark chocolate pairs well with most nuts, especially almonds and pecans.
Consider Artisanal Options: Small, artisan chocolatiers often offer unique flavors and combinations. For example, J Patrice Chocolate Studio handmade chocolate covered nuts are known for their quality, providing a gourmet twist on a classic treat. Their artisanal approach ensures each batch is crafted with care and precision.
Ways to Enjoy Chocolate-Covered Nuts
Chocolate-covered nuts are versatile and can be enjoyed in various ways:
1. As a Stand-Alone Snack
A handful of chocolate-covered nuts can be a satisfying snack to enjoy between meals or on the go. They’re easy to pack and provide a quick energy boost.
2. Paired with Wine or Coffee
Chocolate-covered nuts pair beautifully with a glass of red wine or a cup of coffee. Dark chocolate-covered almonds or pecans are especially delightful with a bold red wine or a rich espresso.
3. As a Dessert Topping
Sprinkle crushed chocolate-covered nuts over ice cream, yogurt, or even a slice of cheesecake. They add crunch, flavor, and an extra touch of sweetness to any dessert.
4. As a Gift
A box of assorted chocolate-covered nuts makes a thoughtful and elegant gift for birthdays, holidays, or any special occasion. They’re a timeless treat that appeals to all ages.
Storing Chocolate-Covered Nuts
To maintain freshness and flavor, store chocolate-covered nuts in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Exposure to heat can cause the chocolate to melt or develop a white film called bloom, which is harmless but affects appearance. If you’re planning to store them for an extended period, refrigeration is a good option.
Conclusion
Chocolate-covered nuts offer a delectable mix of sweet, savory, and crunchy elements that make them a favorite treat for many. From almonds and cashews to hazelnuts and pecans, each type brings its unique flavor to the table when coated in rich chocolate. Whether enjoyed as a snack, a gift, or a dessert topping, chocolate-covered nuts provide both indulgence and nutrition in each bite. With the added benefits of antioxidants, healthy fats, and essential nutrients, they make for a satisfying treat that can be enjoyed guilt-free in moderation.

Things purchased for my mom
Sharing this as an idea of what coaching dietary changes without meal plans means. Granted, this is my mom so I know her patterns, so there was less "interviewing" involved.
She has gastroparesis (idiopathic, not diabetes related). She has kidney issues and she's afraid of developing diabetes because we're genetically predisposed. She frequently has low energy days.
I buy some of her groceries. I told her it's stressful for me to buy animal products. She said let's try the vegan options
She also takes care of my cousin's partially blind daughter. She has her own food issues bc my cousin is a terrible parent.
So! Gastroparesis means my mom can have soluble fiber but insoluble upsets her digestion. Quick oats and applesauce are easy fiber sources she can have even on her low energy days. Chia seeds can be added too, for extra fiber and omega-3s (my mother experiences brain fog bc she had sepsis a year ago).
She likes the next milk so I've been buying that and will until it's officially off the shelf (RIP) and I got her a vegan creamer to try bc she normally does fat free half and half.
Nutritional yeast bc it's got a lot of protein by % and is packed full of beneficial nutrients. Also just tastes good.
Orange chicken is for the picky child. :)
I got her Breyer's oat milk ice cream but left it with my groceries so I'll have to bring it by. Also going to bring her a package of impossible burgers, I got a bunch BOGO so I'd rather share them pay full price haha.

what is the food culture of the horses like :) is it different between clans? if so, how?
Most are omnivores with a heavy herbivorous slant, but it does vary between clans! They can eat everything a horse and human can eat, but their human teeth aren't good for chewing grass, and their horse tastebuds make food taste somewhat uninteresting, so they tend to prefer more human food.
The A'atwe clan's staple crops are olives, apples, flax, lentils, wheat, barley, clover, and alfalfa, supplemented by various fruits, berries, veggies, and herbs. They keep pigeons for fertilizer and goats for fiber and milk, and they do occasionally eat them too, though the slaughter itself is a job for humans. They also keep common hamsters as garbage disposals, and those they definitely do eat. They never eat their pet horses - they would rather let a horse succumb to its injuries than deliberately euthanize it.
The coastal clans often eat equal amounts of seafood, kelp, and grass. Nomadic clans tend to live on nothing but grass and meat. Quite a few clans abstain from all animal products for religious/cultural reasons. A small handful of clans are hunters above all else, but those are rare. The city-dwellers eat whatever humans eat.
