31 days of Horror - Fresh Enough List: Day 19 - From Black (2023)

What are you willing to do to bring back your child? That's the question posed in From Black. A woman lost her son and isn't dealing with the grief well. She's offered a way to bring him back from a guy in her support group. As you can guess, this doesn't go well. I will say this movie shares a lot with another movie by the name of A Dark Song. A lot of fans think it's a rip off but I think this just shares a theme. A mother willing to do anything for bring back her child. There the similarities end. Sadly to talk about the differences in more real depth would be ruining both movies, and i do believe you should see both films. The story is well acted and some of the design is pretty cool though i do wish we got a better look at the things whole form. Not a huge budget but they did well with what they had. The subject matter is heavy as usual and if child death is a no sell for you then skip this. The character study is worth it if you take the time to let it sit with you however. I didn't like the main character as a person. I feel that's the point however. You aren't always supposed to think the mc did or is doing the best option in a movie. Anything else i wanna say is spoiler territory. Check it out on Shudder.

Day 16-- From Black (2023)-- An almost total remake (ripoff?) Of one of my favorite films-- A Dark Song (2016).

A grieving mother enlists the help of an occultist in order to contact her deceased child. The elaborate ritual exactly a tremendous physical, mental, and spiritual toll.

Not a bad movie, but it doesn't do much that ADS doesn't do 10 times better.
