KALOGERAS BEAUTY TIPS . 🤎
hair care is crucial. look into diy hair masks that revive ur curls. the most infamous one is the egg, olive oil, and mayo one. now you don’t have to stop doing things like straightening your hair but keep it to a minimum, make sure you have heat protectant. curling brands to consider is lola or skala, both brazilian brands. i believe they all use bounce curl products however. just take ur hair journey slow, research if possible. natural shampoos like using aloe vera gel straight from the plant could be beneficial. however it is not necessary.
now with clothes, they have a variety of different items. sometimes they share the same clothes. but a majority of them are bodycon dresses and basics (plain tees, tube tops, and such). this is something you can find anywhere.
and lastly, self love. the kalogera sisters know they’re fine. and so should you. sometimes it’s harder to gain confidence than it is others. you hear fake it til you make it. tbh i’m learning myself as well. ur self love journey is something sacred. you will eventually find your way. i know for me, i might not feel the most confident but when i put megan thee stallion on… that’s another story 😭. i also never neglect self care. i do my activities every friday, it’s the best day for beauty and self care. wether that’s making homemade hair and skin masks. treating myself to some sweets. baking cookies. that’s another thing i think sunday does? she loves to bake. that’s a good way to treat yourself. and there’s many recipes, both homemade and storebought.

I wanna post some health and appearance tips because I seen someone else on my tumblr do it.
These are actually mind blowing tips that I’ve tried and tested, actually have science behind them, and make the overall process much easier, i may not have alot of followed and it’s pretty long but please read because these are actually some revolutionary tips like the type of tips that people gatekeep. But that’s not me
Some of these products might be expensive/out if the way I’m sorry, I’m 19 and live alone have been working full time since I was young. I don’t have tips for hiding anything though since I live alone and when I was at home my family never really cared anyways these are mainly tips on how to upkeep your looks while restricting so that way you can look healthy while getting skinny, but I do have some prouducts that will raise less suspicion for anyone who lives at home still.
✨ Tried and tested ✨
Hair~
Hair breaks when you’ve been restricting for a long time but these products have really helped and now I don’t have split ends. Their fine hair friendly as well, just remember shampoo your roots and only condition and oil your ends
Olaplex conditioner and the Olaplex hair oil
shea moisture Manuka honey and manfura oil intensive conditioner
Amika soulfood deep conditioner
Any shampoo with rosemary (makes your hair thicker and has been proven to be as effective as rogaine)
Tessa peays (you can find her on tiktok and YouTube) hair oil recipe and hair oil routine
Body care~
Skin gets really dry sooo
Olay body washes (literally any kind will work their so hydrating, they have a niacinimide one which works to brighten up your skin)
Any lotion with Vaseline in it (Vaseline will lock all moisture in and is the most effective humectant on the market. I don’t recommend using straight Vaseline Vaseline though because that will get all stick, just use a Vaseline brand lotion)
Body scrub once a week
Skincare~
Moisturizer. When your restricting you need to invest in a moisturizer, keep your skin hydrated
Sheet masks 1x a week. I like to use ones that are specifically food themed cuz in my head it’s giving my skin the nutrients I don’t wanna give to myself
My favorite kinds are: the tony Molly “I am-“ ones. Mediheal placenta sheet mask (my skin litterally glows after the placenta one) innisfree honey sleeping mask
I don’t recommend doing diy skincare but the only thing I will ever recommend along the lines of diy skincare is a honey and avacado face mask, makes my skin so hydrated and plump
Foods~
(Some of these might be a fear food for alot and can be a little calorie dense but they help with your appearance)
Berries: especially blueberries and strawberries (have highest antioxidants, which help your apperance)
Cherry and pomegranate juice (antioxidant thing I mentioned above)
Avacados and chia seeds (kinda high in calories I know! But they have lots of omegas and healthy fats and chia seeds are full of omegas and proteins, these will keep your skin dewy and keep your hair nice, chia seeds will also keep you feeling fuller for longer and are a natural laxative)
Eggs: protien+good for your hair
Health in general+ weight~
Quit nicotine. I know that nicotine is like a staple in our community and I myself and on my journey of trying to quitting smoking but after years it catches up to you, and it causes acne. If your not eating your body isn’t going to put that nutrients to upkeeping your face, I already have faint smokers lines around my lips. plus it makes working out easier
(If ur a girl/have female parts) you need to get a probiotic in and get regularly tested for bv and ye⭐️ast infections. You will be prone to bv and yeast “imbalances” while starving and they can cause a lot of problems from stomach bloating to lack of desire and pain and a lot of times are asymptomatic. This happened to me and caused alot of mental anguish because the pain made me question my gender identity and the bloating made the mental aspect of my e d worse and I didn’t even have any symptoms
Don’t use miralax, it’s really bad for you. Drink senna tea, it’s less suspicious and actually works faster and better than laxatives. Plus it doesn’t destroy your organs like miralax
Don’t use trendy diet pills. If your going to take anything get “Garcinia Cambodia” supplement and take it with an apple cider vinegar supplement. Get the acv pills instead of drinking actual acv becsuse it’s better on your teeth (have to be taken together, a study was done on this combination plus it’s been really helping me)
Fast instead of ⭐️ve: I’m not going to get too deep into the science of it all because I’m bad with my words and explaining but basically when your restricting I t’s actually more harmful to your metabolism, makes you crave more food and makes your hungrier making everything harder because that’s what actually puts your body into starvation mode is a constant input of extremely few calories. When your fasting your body goes into “modes” that are actually benifical to your body,metabolism, cravings and feelings of hunger. When you focus more on not eating anything for a long period of time (fasting) vs “I can only have x calories today so I’m gonna eat x and x and x” -(restricting), you’ll find it makes you not only loose weight faster but also make it feel easier
Which is why I see a lot of ppl on here say things like “I can fast so easily but restricting is so hard” well that’s because there’s literally a science to it. And a little secret, after you do general fasting a few days (not for days straight but more so one meal a day like 24 hour fasts and 16+odd hour fasts) it gets easy. It is litterallt so much easier than plain restricting
Take collegen supplements if it’s something your not afraid of because their very good for supple skin and also for hair as well recent studies and random experiments I’ve seen on YouTube have shown
Take biotin~ for your hair
Drink “sparkling ice” drinks. They 5 Cals and have vitamin B’s which are good for your metabolism
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I will be adding anytning I might’ve forgotten becayse I kinda rushed this because I rlly wanted to share all of these with everyone in the community after I got inspiration from the post I saw earlier. Feel free to comment or dm me any questions about the products and the sciences
Best DIY Products?
Tumblr media
It seems like every girl I know, myself included, has lash extensions. Kiss is the brand I use. I’ve used kits from Amazon in the past, but because Kiss is so accessible and easy for me to find, I stick with them. It’s very convenient to do your own lash extensions; these ones are comfortable and last forever, and they look good too. If you don’t want to pay $110+ for a fresh set of lashes, I’d strongly recommend learning how to do your own and how to customize a set. You can learn how to apply individuals, create a lash map, and maintain a set on TikTok/Insta, and I'd strongly recommend gathering lash inspiration there as well.
Tumblr media
If wearing lash extensions isn’t your thing, then I’d recommend tinting your lashes and brows to make them pop. I tint both my lashes and my brows using Eylure products, and I’ve put most of my girls onto them as well; they come in a range of colors, they don’t stain my skin, they’re easy to apply and not at all irritating, and they’re so cheap. I would avoid using Ardell and Just For Men products (Ardell tints aren’t flattering and JFM isn’t meant for delicate facial skin) and always patch test before applying a new product to your face. I tint my lashes black and my brows dark brown, and I get a good three weeks of wear before I need to tint again and redo my lashes and eyebrows.
Tumblr media
Nails are another major part of the equation, and the girls in my dorm either do press-ons, acrylics, or gels. It’s easy to prep your nails and use press-ons, and Kiss makes a really good line of French nails. These are the most popular nails in my dorm; they’re always sold out when I go to Ulta or Target near my campus, and they look really good when properly applied and maintained. I have acrylics on, but these were my go-to when I did press-ons; they lasted up to four weeks with proper care and maintenance, and I found that they were just as durable as my acrylics. I would recommend using a clear gel top coat, prepping your nails, and oiling your cuticles daily to help your press-ons last, and I’d watch a tutorial to see how to apply them before leaping in.
Haitch can you tell us how to .... wash properly? Front and back. I know we're not supposed to use soap? Also do you have any tips at all on diy Brazilian wax 😭
Like, when showering/bathing?? While I wouldn't necessarily think this is something that needed to be taught, that's likely my privilege talking, so here we go.
Honestly, warm fresh water, no soaps, hands. For the front, I'd advise you use your fingers to wash properly between the folds, because women build up Pussy Cheese™️ (you heard it here first) just as guys with foreskins build up Knob Cheese/Smegma.
No need to wash inside. Same goes for the anal area.
Pat dry/air dry the girl for a bit if you can. Cotton underwear, changed every day. Wash your hands before playtime, and after. Make sure any toys are washed with appropriate soap (read the care manuals).
Reason for not using soap on your genitals; the vagina and vulva have a delicate pH balance that typically self maintain. The ongoing war on women would, naturally, paint your vagina/vulva as being or smelling dirty, but barring fungal or bacterial infections or STDs, your natural smell (unless garlic-y or fishy) is utterly normal. Don't use FemFresh type products. They're fucking awful. Your chances of developing bacterial and fungal infections are actually higher, using these products, as the normal bacterial balance is ruined (whatever the product promises), and abnormal bacterial/fungal growth occurs.
R.e. a DIY Brazilian wax? Don't. Unless you are EXCEPTIONALLY METAL, just don't. I consider myself exceptionally metal, pain tolerance-wise, and I tried to do it myself once, and the delightful @mrhaitch had to finish it for me (very poe-faced, as serious as a car crash, very tenderly, but trying not to laugh).
Tumblr media
If you must insist on doing it yourself...
Ideally, the hair should be at least 1cm long, I believe, and not too long (like 2cm or more, or the hairs will overlay each other and be missed/not stick to the wax properly. Make sure there are no abrasions or sore areas-- if there are, do not go ahead. Gently wash, and perhaps exfoliate first, but only the hair-covered parts. Make sure you're really nice and air-dry before you apply the wax/waxing strip. To wax, hold the skin taut with one hand, and one or perhaps two quick rips...and repeat until you are as hairless as you'd like to be. Use wax-specific cleansers after, and gently clean with warm water to get rid of any residue.
I'm sure this isn't as thorough as it could be; I'm an experienced woman, but not a beautician by trade.
I really would recommend getting it done professionally, personally. It's fucking hard to do yourself, largely for the pain, but for reaching tricky areas too.
beauty on a budget for someone new to the lifestyle?
since you’re only starting out, you’ll probably want to focus on affordable products and diy and at home beauty treatments.
you can get affordable skin care products from brands like cerave, cetaphil, and the ordinary. you’ll find all your essential cleansers, serums, exfoliators and moisturizers. you can order facial sheet masks in bulk cheap from amazon. you can also use aztec secret healing clay as a clay masque. skip the guasha altogether and follow a youtube tutorial for face sculpting massages instead.
good quality affordable makeup brands I used when I was nearly broke included e.l.f., nyx, wet n’ wild, maybelline, and makeup revolution. look into some other drug store brands within your budget and check reviews before you buy anything so you don’t waste your money. get generic beauty blenders and powder puffs, you’ll be replacing them often anyway so it’s best to get them cheap. you can buy cheap big makeup brush sets on amazon that’ll last a long time if you clean them regularly and take care of them.
press on nails and home manicures / pedicures will save you a ton of money and time. find a good manicure kit and pumice stone. buy a dollar store basin and some epsom salts to soak your feet. for press on nails I usually get mine from temu or brands like kiss and impress. if you just want to paint your natural nails, get a gel polish like l.a. colors color craze gel or sally hansen miracle gel. if you want to go the extra mile, invest in the supplies and learn how to do your own acrylics or gel manicures.
learn how to wax, shape, and tint your own eyebrows. you can buy an affordable diy wax kit like this one and use youtube tutorials on how to find the most flattering brow shape. (as a bonus, the hard waxing kit can also be used to remove unwanted hair on the rest of your body.) you can also find cheap brow tinting kits that usually last up to five uses at sally’s beauty supply and various other stores online.
if you want your lashes done, you can either get really, really good at applying a strip lash – my go to affordable brands are ardell and kiss – or you can invest in some bulk lash clusters and the falscara diy eyelash extension kit. figure out what lash placement will best compliment your features, then watch lots and lots of youtube tutorials on how to use it and practice, practice, practice. they take some getting used to.
when it comes to hair care, the very first thing you want to do is figure out your hair type with a quiz like this one and find what it needs to look and feel healthy. I have 2A hair, so I would pretty much always spring for nexxus for something moisturizing and lightweight, but I’ve heard great things about ogx, shea moisture, not your mother’s, maui moisture, l’oreal elvive, and garnier whole blends which are great for other hair types, densities, and textures. all these brands carry a wide variety of products from shampoo, to leave in treatments, to hair masques, to curl cream — you get it. again, read reviews. you can also use a cotton t-shirt to dry and plop your hair instead of spending money on a microfiber towel, and a satin scarf wrapped around your head to protect your hair while sleeping instead of a silk bonnet and pillow case.
if you’re into styling your hair, two of my favorite methods are heatless styling and blowouts. for heatless styling, you may not even need to purchase any new styling tools. I started out using this heatless robe curl method and eventually started doing other heatless styling methods like the ones on this playlist once I started buying more tools, and did styles like these when I didn’t feel like setting my hair at all. for styles that require heat, a highly suggest investing in a dyson airwrap – which can do pretty much everything – so you don’t end up spending even more on an arsenal of hot styling tools.
good luck, sugar
xoxo
My ongoing project to start DIY-ing my skin/body care products again has combined with my fic-writing and now I'm looking into the history of various ingredients so I can reasonably claim they'd have been appropriated by the magical world. I've posted a bit before, but there's this product -- sodium stearate -- that will form a firm gelled bar when melted into something like propanediol, propylene glycol, or...glycerin.
It's the sodium salt of stearic acid and that gel it forms? That's a soap. It's a soap that's often used as the basis for a firm gelled deodorant stick. You can also use it for other cosmetic sticks like cleansers, but I'm currently on the track of getting it to work properly in a home formulating environment.
So now we have two different options for a firm deodorant stick -- one that's oil based with stearic acid and cetyl alcohol and one that's water based with sodium stearate.
Up tomorrow is a first try at a facial lotion for me. Winter is kicking my skin's butt, especially since I started a couch to 5k program last week. And my skin is baseline dry as hell in the winter.
In terms of making Snape teach teenagers how to make personal care items, I'm still trying to figure out emulsification systems. We have access now to what are called complete emulsifiers, which means you add one ingredient and that has all the pieces needed to create the emulsification between the oil phase and the water phase.
We may have to get hand-wavey with magic, to be honest. Early emulsifiers weren't nearly as nice as more modern options.
simple skincare tips!
🌼eat the foods that love you back. your skin is a direct mirror of your internal situation. if your digestive system is being bombarded often by foods that create a lot of wastes and residues, that does more harm than good. and so, the struggle to eliminate them will be reflected in your skin. your diet constitutes the vast majority of your skin health. change your meals to be whole food plant based (still delicious, satisfying, and exciting) & watch your skin glow and your skincare routine simplify.
🌼be conscious of what's going on your skin. the skin layers can be over-cleansed, imbalanced, and aggravated when the skin microbiome and pH are disrupted. if you wipe out the beneficial bacterial populations with harshly formulated products, you may find that you break out (i.e. harmful bacterial populations begin to thrive). use gentle, simple skin formulas such as castile soaps, natural oils & butters (i recommend jojoba oil for mostly everyone), natural soap bars, and clays. most commercial skin care products disturb the skin cells (introduce too much foreign material to the body, unsuitable pH ranges, imbalance the microbiome, etc). they sell because it's convention to buy them, the brands are well-known, and their sales pitches are enticing. but really, no cream or serum will ever be the magic potion your skin was asking for. it will only be a band-aid, at best. truly healthy skin comes from diet, and the products are just for any other necessary maintenance. if you get a pimple, you should look first to why the pimple emerged, not what treatment will remove it.
🌼keep your lymph flowing. simple ways to do this are through good lifestyle habits. things like doing exercise & sports you find fun, breathwork, dry brushing, eating lots of fruit, avoiding wearing bras & other tight clothing items, lymphatic massage/gua sha can all be helpful.
🌼focus on hydration via fresh fruits and veggies. the water within plant foods is more useable to your cells, and your skin will cease being overly oily or dry overtime (especially if you reduce/eliminate your salt & oil intake). it will also help to encourage lymphatic flow, so you can see problems like blemishes, cellulite, old scars diminish after great consistency.
🌼allow your skin to breathe. this is especially good if you spend time in stuffy (poorly ventilated) indoor environments, like offices, hospitals, planes, etc. one great way is via herbal facial steaming (i recommend it 3x a week or so). make a hot infusion of an aromatic tea, cover it and allow it to cool a few minutes, and, with closed eyes, allow the pores to open and receive the herbal medicine (this is a great time to meditate, manifest, and just feel pampered). getting more fresh air, working up a sweat, and going to a sauna are also ways to allow your skin to breathe.
🌼avoid steroid prescriptions creams at all costs. they are very deleterious to health in the long term, and they can be very painful to come off of. it's not a real fix. it's not worth hurting your kidneys & adrenals for. evaluate your diet instead. do you eat dairy? choose plant-based dairy options instead (they're simple to make yourself too). do you eat a lot of fats? try oil-free cooking methods instead (opt for sautéing with a bit of water, baking, steaming, air frying, etc). avoiding eating out as much.
🌼be aware of what you're putting in your hair as well. your shampoos, conditioner, leave-ins, gels, moisturizers, oils, serums, etc all tend to touch your face too, when your hair touches your face. if they wouldn't be good enough to put on your face, don't put them in your hair. a lot of the best skin cleansers are also suitable as shampoos. a lot of oils and butters can be used for both. plant-based gels like aloe vera or flax seed are simple to DIY, and are dual-use once again. basically, this will simplify your life.
🌼understand the water that runs through your pipes. if your shower and tap water are like most people's around the world, they aren't optimal for our skin. for example, they contain added chemicals to sanitize the water but that can prevent the proper microbiomes from developing on your skin. a weak skin microbiome is prone to skin issues. so, try to use distilled water on your face (if you're not able to get a water filter, a gallon jug at a store is affordable. they're about $1.30 USD in my area).
Looking good on a budget - Introduction
I am starting a series about skincare, fashion, and makeup on a budget because I recently taught a bunch of this to my "weed daughter."
M. is a young woman only two months older than my own daughter that I met working at a dispensary. Raven and I kind of adopted her - her grandparents raised her because her birth parents are garbage, and they're... Old. Not... "With it," I guess. But Raven and I are old enough that we could feasibly be her parents, if we'd had her in high school, but young enough that we're not fully Old yet. And we both love makeup.
M. is 24 and living on barely-survivable wages, and they've been fucking with the tips for months now (there's a reason I don't work there anymore). I had to force her to let me buy her dollar store nail polish that she wanted.
M. was one of the witnesses at my recent wedding. The other witness was my own daughter.
Afterwards, we all went window shopping. We went to Ulta, we went to Marshall's, we went to the dollar store. And I had to shout, "LET PEOPLE DO NICE THINGS FOR YOU!" in the middle of a dollar tree. Over a $1.25 pack of mini nail polishes.
On her birthday this year, I custom-blended M. a foundation and a lip gloss, as well as gave her a bunch of new and gently-used (and cleaned!) makeup brushes, applicators, and products (I do makeup restoration for fun and profit, so everything was sterile and/or renewed). She had admitted that she didn't know a lot about makeup but wanted to learn, because she likes feeling pretty.
M. is bisexual, but she's had a string of relationships with lil white cis boys who treat her, a young, innocent-looking Puerto Rican woman, like absolute shit. I told her date a woman next. Trans or cis or nonbinary, it doesn't matter, you'll at least have a higher chance of not winding up with a fucking psychopath.
Anyway, that's left her feeling... Worthless, some of the time.
Anyway.
The TLDR
I want to put together a series of tutorials, tricks, tips, diagrams, and shopping lists about makeup, personal grooming, skincare and haircare, and other things like that, but for... Us poors. People who go grocery shopping at Grocery Outlet with EBT benefits because we have to, not because we want to. (And sometimes, that's after you've hit a food bank or two, because you can fill in the gaps.)
Topics I want to address:
Skincare for different skin types, with products you can get at the dollar store.
Haircare for same.
Makeup tricks for cheap makeup to make it stand out.
Places to find good makeup for cheap.
A ranking of makeup brands.
A ranking of haircare brands.
Managing basic grooming with mental illness.
How to look clean if you can't shower today.
Well-researched at-home DIY skincare and makeup.
Taking care of your brushes, applicators, and other tools on the cheap.
How to acquire said tools on the cheap.
Dealing with moral qualms while being poor (I don't like buying products that use slave labor, so how do I reckon with some of this?).
How to tie a tie.
Different lacing styles for shoes to make your unique style stand out.
How to alter shoes (not in the cobbler way, but just fashionably).
How to adjust clothing with little to no knowledge of sewing or fibercraft.
How to thrift well.
How to clean and care for various fabrics.
How to upcycle thrifted or yard sale goods.
How to dye fabric, on the cheap.
How to dye your hair on the cheap.
How to make a decent budget for all of these things (I am by no means a good budgeter but I am a functional one.)
How to handle impulse spending.
If you have any other topics, specific or general, please comment or message me! I'm planning on trying to do this as a video series with downloads on tiktok or something.
I am very inspired by Dollar Tree Dinners, because she's amazing. I want something similar.
Any help thinking of stuff to cover would be appreciated.
I'm gonna start with how to look good at an interview, on a budget.
Just a little more…
You like that?
So good for me…
Let me hear you…
You wake up with a gasp, sweaty and tangled in your sheets, the heel of your right hand pressed against your center.  You are on the verge of coming from the hottest, filthiest sex dream you’ve ever had… starring one Joel Miller.  You debate what to do about the throbbing between your legs.  Take care of it or hope it goes away?  Your hips grind against your hand of their own accord, your body apparently deciding for you.
Relaxing your legs, you begin circling your clit.  It doesn’t take long until you’re throwing your head back as your pussy pulses around nothing.
“What the fuck?” you pant, lying limp on the bed after.  Joel’s confession seems to have flipped a switch inside you.  It has been an interesting couple of days, to say the least.  A part of you that has lain dormant for a long time has suddenly come back to life.
If your body lights up at just the memory of him kissing your hand, what will it do when he kisses your mouth? Or lower?  You whimper into your pillow as heat pools in your belly once again.
He asked you to take your time to make sure you were ready and you’ve been thinking of little else since that conversation.  On paper, it feels fast.  Your divorce is only a few months old.  But, in reality, your marriage was over long before.
You have lived enough life to know you can trust your gut.  You appreciate that he gave you time, but you know what you want.
You glance at your alarm clock.  You’re due on set in an hour, just enough time for a much needed cold shower before you head out.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
You can hear the voiceover in your head as you watch the B-roll the crew shot last week…
When single dad, Marcus, and his daughter, Missy, aren’t busy with work and school, they love watching movies and cooking dinner together.  Marcus seemingly does it all… but he could use some help on his DIY project.
On the screen, Marcus and Missy throw a frisbee and set the table.  Marcus looks over Missy’s shoulder while she does homework, and she snuggles next to him on the couch.
These two are perfect for Construction Corner.
Their project isn’t a big one – a pretty standard bathroom remodel gone awry – which means the shooting schedule is packed into just two days, with another Austin shoot scheduled for the rest of the week.
Hopefully Marcus is ready for the fan mail that’s about to come his way… there is going to be A LOT of it.  An attractive single dad is HGTV catnip.  God knows Joel gets an astronomical amount.  At first, the network sent it to him, but he quickly asked that they stop.  He just couldn’t handle that much attention.
You wonder what he would think of what you did this morning… waking up to thoughts of him and getting yourself off.  Embarrassment heats your skin, and you fan yourself with your notebook to cool down.  Then another thought occurs to you… what if he liked the idea?  That has you fanning yourself even more.
“Hey, lady!” Your dirty thoughts are interrupted by a friendly voice nearby.
“Marlene! Hi! I didn’t know you were visiting today.”  You wrap your friend up in a big hug.  One of the best parts about shoot days in Austin were that friends often came to set to visit.  Marlene works for the local PBS station that first aired Construction Corner.  Since the show moved to HGTV, you haven’t seen nearly as much of her.
“I thought we would stop by to say hello.” Just then, Marlene’s adopted daughter, Ellie, a precocious 8-year-old, spies Joel near the craft services table.
“Jooooooeeeellll!” She squeals as she runs over to him and leaps into his arms.
“Hello, darlin’,” he laughs as he gives her a hug. “You got a joke for me?”
“Why did the monkey fall out of the tree?” she asks seriously.
“I dunno, why did the monkey fall out of the tree?” he replies, just as seriously.
“Cuz it was dead,” Ellie replies dryly.
“Ellie!” Joel barks out a surprised laugh.  “What’s your mama lettin’ you watch?”  He looks over to Marlene, who smiles and shrugs.  “Want to go look at the tools?”  Ellie nods enthusiastically, and the two of them set off together, but not before Joel looks back at you and winks.
“What was that?” Marlene turns to you in confusion.
“Oh… well…”
“Spill.”
“It’s just that… we might… start seeing each other,” you mumble.
“Lady! That’s great!” She pulls you into another hug.
“You think so?  It’s all very new.”
“Of course, I think so! You deserve the very best, and Joel is one of the best men I know.”
“I’m glad to hear you say that.  It’s a little weird, with work and all… but I really want to,” you admit with a whine.
“It’s not like either of you actually works for the other.  Go for it!”
“I think I will,” you smile to yourself.  Joel and Ellie are making their way back to you.  Ellie is chattering excitedly about something while Joel nods along.
“Well, we’d better take off,” Marlene takes Ellie’s hand.  “It was great to see you both!”
After another round of hugs and whispered promises to tell her everything, Marlene and Ellie make their way back to their car, leaving you and Joel standing together for the first time since your hotel room last week.
“Hi,” he ventures, tentatively.
“Hi,” you reply, biting your lip. “I’ve been thinking about what you said last week.”
“Is that right?” the low rasp of his voice sends a swoop of pleasure to your belly.
“I think I’d like to go on that date you offered.”
Joel’s eyes crinkle as he breaks into a slow grin.  “How about tomorrow?  I’ll pick you up at 7.”
“What we’re gonna do next is caulk around the new countertop,” Joel explains to Marcus and Missy as you listen over the monitor.  “I’m gonna show you a trick to make sure it’s nice and neat, not like what was in here before.”  Marcus looks sheepish.  “It’s ok, it’s trickier than it looks.  The pros do this all day and make it look easy.  But we’re gonna use tape.”  Joel holds up a roll of blue painter's tape and then starts lining it up carefully on either side of where the caulk line will be.
He hands two rolls of tape to Marcus and Missy and lets them do the rest.  Once they’ve finished, he continues, “You’ll lay your line of caulk, smooth it with your finger, then remove the tape and have a straight and even line. Ready?” Joel hands the caulk gun to Marcus.
Marcus takes it from him solemnly and does as Joel explained.  Joel nods his approval as Marcus pulls off the tape, leaving a perfectly caulked vanity.
“See how nice that looks?  Don’t be a hero.  Use the tape,” Joel says, patting Marcus on the back.
“Hear that, Dad?” Missy interjects.
“I heard him,” Marcus laughs and hip-checks his daughter.  Joel smiles at them proudly, another job complete.
You open your door to a very handsome man.
Joel has cleaned up since the shoot this afternoon.  He replaced his worn work jeans with dark, crisp ones that hug his hips.  Instead of a t-shirt, he wears a button-down with the collar open and the sleeves rolled up.  His hair is stylishly mussed.  Knowing him, it probably just does that on its own.
His warm brown eyes skate up your body, “You look beautiful.”
“Thank you,” you reply, shy under his gaze.  You opted for a sundress since the fall evening was still rather warm, the fabric brushing softly over your skin.
Joel reaches for your hand and leads you to his truck, opening the door for you to climb in.  He circles the front and gets in his door as you settle yourself in the seat.
“I made us a reservation at Fonda San Miguel, if that’s alright?”
“Joel, that’s my favorite restaurant!  It sounds wonderful.” You reach over and squeeze his arm.  He smiles happily as he puts the truck into gear.
“Thought I remembered somethin’ like that,” he says casually as he turns out of your parking lot, and your heart squeezes.
Dinner passes in a blur of delicious food and lively conversation.  Fonda San Miguel’s eclectic backdrop is perfect for a relaxed yet special first date.
You and Joel know each other well, so there isn’t the awkwardness of most first dates, but there’s still a lot you don’t know about each other’s histories.
Over bacon wrapped shrimp with jalapeño and cheese, you fill him in on your marriage and divorce, how you’ve realized that you’ve been lonely for a long time.
While digging into Cochinita Pibil, he tells you how he had never dreamed that he would be able to provide a college education for Sarah, how his dreams are so much bigger now, how he wants to do good in the world.
Between bites of a shared Tres Leches Cake, you agree that this feels right and exciting.  Your eyes lock over the table.
On the drive back to your apartment, words begin to fail as anticipation builds between you.
Joel gets out of the truck first and opens your door.  He holds your hand as you lower yourself out of the cab.
You’ve barely touched tonight – only chaste hands over the table – but now your body is just inches away from his, and you sway towards him.  He moves his hand to your waist.
“Can I kiss you?” he rasps with an edge of desperation.
You nod eagerly, and he closes the short distance between you.  His plush lips brush gently against yours – exploring, tasting.  He cradles your jaw in his strong hands as he delves into your mouth, urging you to open for him.  You grasp his hips to hold yourself steady.
The heat of his body warms you through your thin sundress and you can’t get enough.  Your hands roam over his muscled back and down his firm biceps.  His mouth on yours is warm… soft… insistent.  After an eternity, and far too soon, he breaks the kiss.
“Would you like to come inside for a drink?” you blurt out and he nods at you with heavy-lidded eyes.
You lead him into your apartment and into the tiny kitchen.  The door has barely closed behind him when he spins you up against the counter and dives back into your mouth.  His hands roam more freely this time, digging into your hip bones and sliding up your ribs, nudging at the swell of your breasts.
You press into his front and are rewarded with the hard line of his erection against your stomach.  You moan and grind into him even more.
“You’re gonna kill me with the sounds you make, sweetheart,” Joel growls, nipping at your neck, hands moving lower over your ass.  With a hand under each thigh, he hoists you up onto the counter.  Your knees frame his slim hips.  You pull him towards you with your heels, craving friction against your center.
His hands dip under the hem of your skirt.  They skate up your bare thighs until his thumbs brush the edge of your underwear – calloused fingertips on silky skin.
“Please, Joel,” you beg between wet, desperate kisses.  He complies and slips his thumb under, cursing raggedly when he finds your slippery folds.
You rock your hips into his hand as he kisses down your neck and across your collarbone all the while circling your clit.  You come undone with a gasp of his name and slump against his chest.
Joel holds you firmly against him as he drags his mouth across your temple, your forehead, and finally back to your lips for slow, languid kisses as your breathing evens out.
“I should go,” he rumbles against your mouth.
“But… no... what about you?” you look up at him in hazy confusion.
“I’ll be ok,” he assures you before dragging his thumb down your cheek and pulling at your lower lip.  “It’s getting late… and I want to take my time with you.”  A shiver runs up your spine at the promise in his words.
“Don’t go, please,” you whisper, looking up at him.
“Sweetheart, I know, I’m sorry,” he pulls you into his chest, wrapping his strong arms around you, “but we have to be on set so early tomorrow.  We don’t have time tonight for what I have planned for you.”  He pulls back and lifts your chin to look you in the eye.  “I promise, I’ll make it worth the wait.”
You whimper and his eyes flash with want.  But he’s a patient man – a man who does things the right way – so, he helps you down from the counter and kisses you deeply at the door one last time before heading out into the night.
Free skin-care 🍵
hi dolls! today I’m going to show u a few skin care tips/masks which help a lot and cost less ♡
Skin brightening - Cucumber Tomato Face Pack
You can actually make a lot of masks with cucumber but my all time favorite is the brightening one. As I have acne prone skin and tend to get a lot of redness / scars I use this method a lot.
recipe: https://www.vedaoils.com/blogs/news/homemade-cucumber-face-pack-for-glowing-skin#
Hydrated lips - Honey sugar scrub
I mostly use this while doing my make up :) I apply this scrub before doing my make up and then start the process. After I finish with my whole face I just wipe off the scrub and apply my products. In my opinion using it that way is the best (if you’re going to do make up ofc) since your lips look "fresh".
Recipe:
Mix one teaspoon of honey with two teaspoons of sugar.
Massage the mixture into your lips and leave for 10 minutes or so.
Remove with the help of a wet face washer.
Toner - Rice water
for glowy, moisturized skin use rice water as a toner. apply twice a day after cleansing your face. you can also "steam" it , like use the steam from rice water. so good for oily skin works well for me !
Recipe : https://www.herzindagi.com/amp/beauty/rice-water-toner-diy-learn-recipe-and-beauty-benefits-of-using-it-article-164384
Refresher / Cleanser - Clarifying Oat Face Mask
love using this once in a while because my skin feels like baby skin and the redness calms down
Recipe: Combine 3 teaspoons ground oats and ¼ teaspoon apple cider in a bowl until a smooth paste forms. Then add ¼ tablespoon lemon juice and ½ tablespoon brown sugar; stir until the mixture is even. Apply to freshly cleansed skin and let sit for five to 10 minutes, allowing ingredients to penetrate top layers of the skin. Then rub in circular motions to exfoliate and increase blood-flow. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry with a towel.
these are my most used recipes for my face (I have oily skin btw) and I can 100% say that they work well. lmk if u have questions.
love, el <3
DIY Fail - Whipped Coconut Oil Skin Cream
It’s great to talk about our wins all the time however sometimes we need to talk about our fails. Talking about our fails allows us to examine what went wrong and gives us experience. Fails are never a negative thing they are the pathway to our successes.
My husband and I have been slowly moving our family towards a healthier lifestyle. Each day we’ve made small changes to our world that have incorporated healthier foods, products we use on our skin & hair and products we use to clean.
Recently in an attempt to add a cleaner alternative to our family skin care; I attempted to make a homemade coconut oil whip. I failed…miserably! I used an unrefined coconut oil, and about a dropper and a half full of Jojoba oil. I used my emersion blender and commenced to whipping!
What I was left with was short of impressive. It was thick, on the runny side and anything but fluffy. What an utter fail. I even put it in the freezer hoping it would solidify and it did. It is far from whipped, and anything but fluffy.
What did I learn?
After a wee bit of research I learned this is an oil that needs to be worked with cold. You should also use cold instruments. Interesting!
My next attempt I shall try some vitamin E too!
The mixture is still good and I have used it a few times so far with it soaking into my skin thoroughly and leaving my hands in a smooth state.
I did find these great jars on Amazon #ad #commissionsearned that came in a four pack.
While I may have failed my first attempt I have plenty of coconut oil and jars to try again. I will share my updates soon!
One things for sure, I had a blast learning this.
It was fun and entertaining and worth the experience. 😂😊
Sunday reset: a how to 🧖🏽‍♀️
Tumblr media
I just wanna say that whoever coined the idea of a Sunday reset is a genius! It’s the perfect way to end/start a week on the right foot, and it’s extremely beneficial! here’s a checklist that I like to use:
Tumblr media
Skin
steam your face: I just let my steamer run until there’s no more water left but you can steam for as long as you like
face mask/extractions: I use some kind of pore cleansing mask and if needed I’ll use a pore strip to get rid of pesky blackheads
derma planeing: use a small face razor to get rid of peach fuzz, this helps with acne and makes makeup sit smoother!
moisture: after all this do your skincare routine as you normally would and moisturize really well
lips: buy or make a diy lip scrub (coconut oil&sugar works for me) and apply some vaseline or aquaphor to your lips afterwards
Body
exfoliating: I don’t own a dry brush so I use exfoliating scrubs and my sapo to keep my skin baby soft
body hair: (shave only if you want to) I like to use the eos shaving cream, I have really irritable skin and this product hasn’t given me any problems! Use a razor with at least 5 blades and be gentle, always exfoliate first to soften the hairs
body oil/lotion: lotion up your whole body, I recommend cocoa butter or shea butter if you’re melanated since they’re better for our skin. Then top it off with body oil, I use one with essential oils and then one with glitter in it from b&bw
etcetera: I don’t own a body gua sha and I don’t really tan so I won’t be giving tips on those, sorry!
Nails
trim cuticles: Reminder to be careful when doing this! If not you can slice your finger and cause bleeding so be gentle. Clean up your cuticles by evening then out and get rid of any hangnails
buff/file: Use a buffer to even out the tops of your nails, and a file to shape them however you want 💅🏽
cuticle oil/nail strengthener: apply cuticle oil to the nail bed and nail strengthener. If you have weak nails like me this will help a lot in the long run, and if you have trouble with biting your nails there are products you can buy that will help with that
manicure/pedicure: If you really want to feel like that girl, go get your nails done! Or do them yourself, like I do! Get them all cutesy and sparkly or however you want!
Hair
massage your scalp: I have one of those scalp massagers so while I’m washing my hair I use that to help get the shampoo/conditioner really in there. It’s also a great way to stimulate hair growth and cleanliness
apply glycolic acid to scalp: I get my glycolic acid from ulta in the big ordinary one, it helps with a flaky/ dry scalp and soo much more. I basically use it for my whole body.
oiling your hair: There are tons of different hair oils, I use the ones from Mielle specifically the rosemary one. Whatever problems you have you can find the solution with hair oils.
hair masks: I do one every 2 months or just between protective hair styles. You want to get your hair nice and wet and apply it everywhere. On your scalp to your ends and wash it out thoroughly after about 20 minutes or however long it requires
heat protectant: If you’re going to put heat to your hair, use a specific shampoo and conditioner before to help make it easier (ogx has some good ones) and put heat protectant products in your hair. Nobody wants heat damage!
Lash/brows
brows: I get my eyebrows threaded once a month, 2x if needed because my eyebrows get really long and messy sometimes. Before you go in, have a set shape in mind, try and follow the natural shape of your eyebrows. Dear peachie and channels like that are great for finding one kind of shape suits your face for better facial harmony!
lashes: I only just started wearing falsies so I can’t tell you too much. Just make sure to keep your natural eyelashes clean, and moisturized. Use castor oil, vaseline, or coconut oil (or all 3!) on them to keep them thick and healthy. While wearing fake ones keep them clean and don’t leave them in for too long!
That’s it! It may seem like a whole lot, but your body will thank you for taking extra time to really care for it. Don’t forget to properly hydrate and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Your body is the only one you have, so keep it healthy!
xoxo!
Holiday Honey Hacks: Boosting Immunity for a Merry Christmas
It is time to accept the golden, delicious liquid that may keep you healthy and full of festive spirit honey as the holiday season comes near.
For centuries, people have enjoyed this amazing gift of nature for its many health advantages, including its capacity to strengthen immunity.
Together, let's make this Christmas not only joyful but also healthy.
Tumblr media
Understanding the Immune - Boosting Power of Honey
Not only is honey a healthy sweetener, but it also contains minerals, enzymes, and antioxidants that help boost your immune system.
Honey's antioxidants help in the fight against free radicals, which can impair your immune system.
Honey also has antiviral and antibacterial qualities that help prevent illnesses.
Because of this, honey becomes an extremely useful ally during the cold and flu season, keeping you healthy so you can enjoy the seasonal delicious foods.
Honey and Warm Drinks - A Comforting Defense Against Winter Illness
Honey is a must-have for holiday health since a spoonful in tea or warm water helps clear your throat and prevent frequent winter illnesses.
Adding honey to a warm glass of lemon water or a traditional cup of herbal tea can improve its calming properties.
Honey's natural enzymes help soothe sore throats, and its antiviral qualities help your body fight off cold viruses.
Have a warm beverage infused with honey first thing in the morning to gently strengthen your immune system.
DIY Honey Remedies - Simple Recipes to Keep Colds at Bay
This holiday season make effective honey-based medicines to stave off colds and the flu with a few simple ingredients. A typical treatment is a mixture of ginger and honey.
Just combine honey and shredded ginger, then let alone for a few hours. When a cold seems like it could come on, take a teaspoon of this combination.
Because of its antimicrobial qualities, honey and cinnamon paste make an additional potent treatment.
To maintain a strong immune system, combine one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon and take it on a regular basis.
Incorporating Honey into Your Holiday Meals
There are endless ways to include honey into your Christmas recipes, from glazes to desserts, to enhance the flavor and strength of your meals.
Try roasted veggies with a honey balsamic drizzle or ham with a honey glaze for a festive touch.
Honey might be the main ingredient in your Christmas treats if you're in the mood for something sweet.
Honey can be used to make honey cakes, cookies, or even just a honey drizzle over fruit or yogurt.
These recipes are delicious, but they also have the extra benefit of honey's ability to strengthen immunity.
Honey for Skin Care - Protecting Your Skin During the Festivities
Not only is honey edible, but it can also be used as a natural moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and shielded from the cold winter air.
Your skin may become dry and sensitive in the winter. Honey is a great addition to your skincare routine because of its inherent humectant qualities, which help seal in moisture.
How to Prepare;
Applying a small layer of honey to your skin and letting it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing off will make a basic honey face mask. Your skin will feel moisturized, smooth, and ready for the holidays after doing this.
Choosing the Best Honey - What to Look for This Christmas
Discover how to select the highest quality honey so you can maximize its health advantages over the holiday season.
Not all honey is created equal. Look for raw, unfiltered honey when shopping for honey, as it keeps the greatest nutrients and health-promoting enzymes.
Because of its strong antibacterial qualities, Manuka honey is a great option for increasing immunity.
To be sure you are getting the best product possible, always check the label for purity and attempt to get honey from nearby beekeepers.
I have to disagree with some of the writing advice offered by Limyaael from Curiosity Quills-- in particular about writing female characters. In retrospect, I think some of her thoughts about appearance miss the mark.
Take, for example, this line:
If it matters that your readers know your character is blonde (I’m trying to think of a situation where this could matter, and only coming up with a need for disguise by hair dye or bastardy, but there could be other reasons), then tell them.
I feel that other reasons could/very much would include essential bits of characterization. With the blonde example, is she naturally blonde, or is her hair bleached? Does she bleach it to the point of frying with cheap product or does she use something more expensive? Something cheap could point to a lack of care and/or a lack of means, while a more professional job or a more expensive DIY solution points to more means or more care for your appearance. More than that, if your character is obsessing over their hair and keeping it blonde after dyeing it, that's a part of them and their characterization that will become necessary to them, whether it has bearing on a simplified version of the plot or not. It has weight on the character as a person.
For example, while we're talking about hair, the fact that Anne Shirley's hair is red is very important to her. It's a source of insecurity for her; it's something she obsesses over; and it tells you key information not just about Anne, but about the people around her. Comments on her hair, her clothing, and her body tell you how she sees herself and how other people see her.
The details you give about a character-- whether they're the ones you have them repeat in internal monologue about themself or ones they see in others-- are essential to how they, as a person within the fiction, are.
Tumblr media
I disagree. Flat-out, I disagree. Barring this entirely from your fiction means that you lose a very fun method of conveying that the character has changed or is at a point of breakdown. I do it all the time on purpose, and you know why? Because I'm a human being and I look in the mirror a lot.
You notice things about yourself in the mirror-- the blemishes on your forehead, the grease between your eyes, the scar behind your nostril, the flaking skin on your nose. You need a haircut. It's been a few months. There's brown puffing around your neck now, gathering on your collar. The haircut can wait, though; and when did you get sunburned? You don't remember getting sunburned, but there's a pink sheen to those freckles your mother hates now-- pink despite the rosacea-- and all that's staring back at you in those familiar blue eyes is confusion and exhaustion from the heat. Are you even yourself right now?
The earrings. You came in here to find the earrings you took out at the restaurant yesterday when you realized your ear was swollen. They're not even here. Did you even look? Stop picking at your face, you tell yourself. Stop. Stop it. Tearing your hands away from the bloody mess of your grandmother's proud nose, you splash some water on your face and leave.
(I wrote that, for the record; I reference it later, so that bears saying.)
The issue with the trope is not that it exists and has been "done to death," but with execution. Sure, it's stereotypical to have someone list off every detail about themself, but you can get details in there while they're looking in the mirror. If I'm writing about myself like in the above, there's a LOT that I can fit into there: my ear piercing is infected; my nose is large, it has some flaking skin and a scar on it, and I have a habit of picking the skin off of it; my eyes are blue; my hair is brown and growing out; my skin is greasy; I have rosacea; and, importantly, I'm incredibly scatterbrained. It takes a hot minute to pull away from the Narcissus pond of my nose.
Contrast that with her example:
Tumblr media
Which, yes, is stereotypical-- but could be fixed and amended. Those details could be scattered into the internal monologue in other ways. I don't think they should be stripped from the monologue entirely.
Furthermore, why can't you regard yourself? Why does someone else have to regard you?
Details can be put in through that method, of course, but it doesn't have to be "do not ever use the mirror; only have details conveyed through the voice of the love interest or some other character musing on her appearance." It feels much less humanizing to say "you can not think about yourself" than the alternative; meaning it is less feminist as a piece of writing advice.
To go back to the Anne of Green Gables example: the story would not work as well if we didn't get disdain from Anne about her hair alongside comments from people like Gilbert and Rachel Lynde. You can get the comments from both sources. In contrast, only having information conveyed through Gilbert would lessen the impact of the story overall.
It boils down to execution. Saying "no, do not do this" seldom works as writing advice.
