#personal#delete later#for context a tweet i made in the middle of the night blew the fuck up and brought the attention of anime fans who've been#harassing and hassling me about my big factual blunder for an entire day straight#“ok i'll apologize” “bro it's not that serious.”#“you're right it's not that serious“ ”why won't you just admit that you're wrong and apologize!“#i'm not going crazy right. i feel like i'm getting manipulated into thinking i must've been wrong#it's crazy how twitter hate will trick you into believing saying something someone else disagrees with is a moral failing#sorry i haven't seen frieren i guess but what's it to you. i wasn't making a claim or statement#also because nobody has gotten this in the original post i wasn't talking about the quality of animation i'm talking about solid drawing#which is a very specific principle of animation. dandandan has really good solid drawing wherein all the characters are animated#with realistic and proportional 3d depth. newsflash but trigger doesn't prioritize solid drawing in their animation and that's fine#it's an aesthetic choice and has ties to production limits. none of this is a big deal. this is all so stupid lol#i've dealt with worse and more annoying weebs though it's fine i'll put on my clown nose twitter needs their stupid guy for the day#oh btw at the end of the day this doesn't matter. it'll be over by tomorrow. all that's happening is petty angry emotions.#so please don't involve yourself by jumping into the argument and prolonging this shit#i'm about to go on a date with tulli after being apart for a month this is the furtherest thing from my mind rn

my initial knee jerk reaction to lucanis/spite saying "family, enemies, contracts" was bad because it felt like an oversimplification but actually thinking on it i really love that lucanis forces himself into this box to make things make sense in his life. family is unconditional, enemies are to be killed, but contracts is so. interesting... man who promises mila that he will find her father because he does not fail contracts. the same man who tells effe that he will kill her slaver because he needs to turn her from a poor young woman that he sympathises with, into someone he can make a deal with. it's not kindness, it's not weakness, he's just fulfilling a contract, and crows don't break contracts. if he kills a bunch of racist blood mages during that process, then he's not breaking the rules, just bending them. a very convenient excuse to be a good man while still being a crow and assassin. and of course when spite is forced into him, he gets out of it with something familiar! by making another deal! something he could work with, something he HAS to work with, because being just an abomination is unthinkable. if he can work himself out of this problem like he's done with every other contract in his life, in his mind maybe there's some tiny chance that this becomes another job that he can claw his life back from.

the thing is...
...it's not even like, a man thing, it's a people thing?
I'm seeing a lot of people not understand there are legions of grey when it comes to tactile communication, and claiming that we're misinterpreting it because buddie shippers are "young women" (which is a lovely, sexist generalization that erases anyone in this fandom who doesn't identify as a woman, which I'm sure is fucking many)
like plenty of people, I have friendships that are extremely tactile, and that touch ranges from soft and grazing to rough-housing that could maybe be interpreted into something else by an outside perspective, but it's never harmful
more importantly, however, is that these two characters we're discussing, touch, all the time, soft and heavy, but more than that constant constant constant
a hand on the shoulder, sudden or not, between these two people who implicitly trust their emotions and bodies with each other...
...well it's not this horrific abusive thing you are twisting it into, it just isn't, and it's demeaning as hell towards portrayals in media that are about abusive/toxic situations

I was watching someone play Undertale for the first time on youtube and the comments were like "I hope the fandom doesnt ruin this for you" Because of how common it is for youtubers to drop Undertale because of the overbearing fandom.
And it got me thinking and I think I know why this happens. Its because the neutral endings arent fun.
If I hadnt known that pacifist was the 'best' route when I first played it and gone for it.........I dont think I would have liked Undertale if I got a neutral route.
Yeah you are told you can replay and get a better ending, but if I had played Undertale and gotten one of the endings thats just a phone call and then was told "replay the whole thing to get a better ending" I wouldnt have done it. I would have felt like I wasted 8 hours.
And I think thats where the toxicity towards new players comes from.
Because even if people dont want to admit it, they know the neutral endings will probably make people go "that was the game everyone hyped up? Thats it?" and think it was ok at best. So people backseat HARD to try and make sure people get the most out of the game.
Because if you went in truly blind to Undertale and got a 'phonecall' ending, why in the world would you work hard for another ending that might just be another phone call. You would only know that the Pacifist ending is really THAT GOOD, if someone tells you.
Undertale is one of my favorite games of all time. But only because I knew to play Pacifist first

thoughts running trough my head: THIS IS NOT A 'BUILD A PERSON' PROJECT! If you DON'T like me the way I AM then LEAVE ME ALONE!!! I'M GOING TO BE EXACTLY AS I AM! Who I am is on purpose! I chose to be this way on purpose because it's what makes me me! I'm not going to change my nature to satisfy whatever you want out of this!

The Helena diaz of it all has me fascinated. I’ve said for a long while that Eddie’s real issues are his mommy issues and this episode just cemented for me that we’re gonna explore that and deal with it.
Because it’s Helena who forced Eddie to grow up to fast - because her husband wasn’t around much - so she pushed Eddie into de facto parent and husband role ls - selfishly filling her needs and ignoring the damage it was doing to her son (it is a form of abuse in my book).
Eddie then had the audacity to fall in love with and marry Shannon and get her pregnant. It’s why Helena was always so off with Shannon - she was punishing her. She is also punishing Eddie for all of this and his refusal to return to El Paso only cemented further her bitterness and resentment.
Now she does have Ramon back she doesn’t need Eddie any longer to fill that role so she is still punishing him and part of that is tied into her glee over now getting to parent Christopher - something she has always been intent on doing the doppelgänger just gave her the opportunity- as well as allowing her to further punish her son and his love of Shannon.
Her barbed comments about building a pool were all about showing what she can provide Christopher - how she is parenting him better than Eddie - it’s part of her mind games - making Eddie feel like more of a failure as a parent to his son.
The reality of course is that the reverse is true - Helena’s parenting is all superficial, flash and showy - it isn’t the hard day to day parenting when things get tough and you have to be the bad guy. While Eddie has made mistakes, there is nothing superficial, flash, or showy about his parenting. It’s why bucks comments about Eddie being a great dad are so important.
Eddie feel like a failure right now and that he is entirely to blame for everything. But in reality, while he does bear a bit of the responsibility, the truth of the matter is that he needs to learn and deal with the fact that all of it actually stems from Helena and her abuse of her young son - Shannon never stood a chance just like Eddie never has.
#genuinely don’t see how she can get any sort of redemption arc#but this is 911 so maybe they’ll find a way 🤷🏻‍♀️#Helena’s treatment of Eddie is a form of child abuse - it has done so much damage to him psychologically#I do really hope we finally get to meet Sophia and adriana as part of this arc beciase I think it might be very revealing#I am also wondering if Ramon had a stache in the past - and that is what Eddie is subconsciously trying to mimic#and that is about him trying to regain his mothers affection - trying to fill that husband role she forced him into#and that shaving it off is a part of his dealing with that and choosing to free himself from her clutches#and in doing that - standing up for himself etc - it will be the trigger that v ring schristopher back#the catholic guilt and Eddie’s queerness is also all tied up in this - the church reinforces and condones Helena and her actions#the Catholic Church has a long history of abuse of children in all it’s horrendous forms#so Eddie seeking solace in that direction think it will help him find away back to Helena’s good books only for it to open a few doors he#has bolted shut#as for the queer aspect - forcing Eddie to grow up too fast and fill this role of husband to his mother and parent to his siblings means#Eddie never got the chance to learn who he actually is - to explore his sexuality and all that goes with that - at the age one normally#would - as a teenager and into your 20’s. it explains so much around his relationship with Shannon and dealing with the helana of it all#and the queerness of his identity - will also allow him to actually let Shannon go#Eddie’s arc is going to be incredible - heartbreaking and gut wrenching - but incredible#Helena diaz it’s on sight - she is evil and cannot be redeemed in my eyes!#911 spoilers#Thinky thoughts#eddie diaz#911 abc

Why did they make such a big deal about Shuichi specifically wearing a hat. Of all the Danganronpa games, V3 had by far the most people wearing hats
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Goodbye Despair, only 2 people wear hats. In Trigger Happy Havoc, NO ONE wears a hat, the closest thing we have to a hat is Celeste's bonnet headband thing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So V3 is increasing Danganronpa's overall hat-wearing by 200%, yet Shuichi is the only one catching strays. Yes, I understand it was to make a point about Shuichi not being confident and not wanting to look at people in the eye, I just think it was so funny to make a big deal about Shuichi in particular wearing a hat when there were SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WEARING HATS

“mondo isn’t fit to be an ultimate. he’s too childish and doesn’t deserve the respect and credit he’s given.” YOU LITERALLY FELL FOR MONDO’S TRAP
the whole bit is that mondo does deserve his place as the gang’s leader. he does deserve that notoriety. he does deserve taka’s respect. because he’s good at what he does. he worked his ass off to get to that level. he literally started at the very bottom of the gang but climbed the ranks to the point that he was considered to be the leader’s equal. all in a very short span of time. that’s impressive as fuck.
daiya didn’t need to choose mondo to be his successor. but he did. because he recognized that mondo more than deserved it. and he was right. mondo went on to make the gang what it was, to the point that it became the largest in the country and mondo himself became the de facto leader of every other biker gang. he really was that popular in that culture.
the one person who thinks mondo doesn’t deserve any of that is mondo himself. and that’s brought to the forefront because junko knew that preying on that insecurity would get her the reaction out of him that she wanted. why do you think she worded his secret that way when mondo didn’t actually kill daiya?
mondo is a good, hardworking person. he just doesn’t think he is because (get this) he hates himself. people from his past made him believe he was worthless. so now he doesn’t listen to the people that tell him he’s worthy.
but at the end of the day. daiya wasn’t the ultimate biker gang leader. mondo was.

Some instances that I feel show how some messages in MHA are detrimental, especially on how victims react to their abuser, can be gauged by responses that tend to be highly prevalent in the fandom.
(Definitely not every fan, but a great majority).
Endeavor is a great example. Whenever you post criticizing his approach to atonement (and ultimately criticizing Horikoshi’s writing), you get BOMBARDED by people either belittling you for not liking his character or essentially forcing you to like his character by frantically writing “at least he tried” arguments.
If I have the CHOICE whether to forgive his character or not, especially given he goes through an atonement arc and not a redemption arc, why is any form of criticism about his abusive behavior and essentially his abuse of power practically ignored by the story unacceptable?
The message was detrimental because people operate on the notion that for victims to be good people, they must forgive and even help their abusers. MHA presents people who choose not to forgive him as either a monster (Toya) or inconvenient (Natsuo). And if they are still unforgiving, they must admire the abuser for doing the bare minimum (taking responsibility; this is also about Natsuo).
Essentially, they are considered "imperfect victims" because they weren't merciful in their approach to their abuser.
The majority of the fandom tends to ignore the lack of actual consequences for Endeavor's actions because he vows to talk to Toya every day. Insisting that doing the bare minimum, which is recognizing his son's existence and suffering, became his "hell" is a wildly fucked up message, in my opinion.
It harps on the issue mentioned above that if a victim isn't receptive to forgiveness or doesn't act "demure," they are seen as an inconvenience—which is how the Todoroki family ultimately views Toya.
On a less critical note, I'll vent, so if you don't like this, just ignore it.
I'm so fucking tired of stories depicting imperfect victims as people who deserve death and torture. Plus, having to be on the brunt of so many people acting like you're morally fucked because you're not impressed with how a writer handled abuse. Horikoshi is not the first writer to try to atone a character who is an abuser (and he isn't the first to fail at that, either).
I'm not about to dick-ride every decision every author makes. Especially if the message convinces some audience members that victims are inherently broken if they can't bring themselves to forgive and/or admire someone who hurt them.

This might sound trivial but sometimes when I hear people talking about America and the foundation it was made on I remember Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood) and when Ed found out that Amestris and specifically central city has been constructed in such a way that they form Nationwide Transmutation Circle to create Philospher's stones. And they, especially someone trying to rule like Roy, have to reckon with the fact that all those incidents those bloody wars and genocides that litter their history that they tried to write off as a fault of the administrations as mistakes their nation made, they have to reckon with the fact that does weren't flaws that was the machine running exactly as it was meant to. They could no longer pretend that Amestris was anything other than what it was built to be: a nation of bloodshed. And only after contending and accepting that this was what their nation was built on could they hope to change it.
