Bruce is... frustrated. His head hurts, and he feels like everything went wrong straight from the beginning, but most importantly, he can't understand why Jason always makes it so hard for him to carry on with a day.

He says something again, something unapologetically blunt, something that makes Bruce face things he doesn't want to think of now. There are very few things that he can retort when his son is correct about something. Nothing, actually — nothing worthy of being said aloud.

So he snarls, almost instinctively, in a way no one else could make him frustrated:

'You know that I do it because I care for you. You know that I love you!'

Jason stares back. His eyes are empty.

'No,' he says slowly. 'No, I don't.'

"I don't know that you love me. Not when you keep hurting me. Not when I am a scapegoat, and when I am not — then I am still stuck in the coffin, doomed to always be the ghost of your favourite soldier, not a beloved son," is left hanging in the air, unsaid, but loud.

Suddenly, all anger leaves Bruce's as it was never here to begin with. He looks straight in his son's eyes, and there is no anger or raw pain. Just acceptance.

Bruce can't believe it — he can't believe that making his stubborn and never giving up son to believe that he was unloved, was easier for him than to make sure to get him back home. But he did it.

And for the first time in a while, he has no idea how to fix this.

At some point, the amount of younger generation heroes in the Justice League gets bigger and bigger every year. It's kind of a bittersweet thing for all the mentors in the League: they are so, so proud of the people their kids and former protegees have grown up to become, but at the same time, it's always a bit hard seeing them grow up.

In any case, they are all a good addition to the League. Many of them have worked together in teams before, and have the whole teamwork-aspect of the League down a lot better than the older members had when they first joined. Batman and Green Arrow especially couldn't seem to contain their pride in their kids, and no one could really blame them for it. After all, both Nightwing and Red Arrow were exceptional fighters with a lot of experience in both teamwork and leadership under their belts, on top of being just really good people. Nightwing and Red Arrow seemed proud of each other as well, after all the hardships they had gotten through during their childhood and early adulthood. One of their oldest and bestest friends, they called each other often, even if the other was not there to hear it.

So it was a bit alarming to see them arguing at the corner of the room in the Watchtower, at least for Hal.

"I was there first!" Nightwing hissed at Red Arrow.

"So what?" Red Arrow hissed back. "This is important to me and you know it!"

"Are they okay?" He quietly asked Wally, who was leaning on the wall. Wally was also their old friend, Hal knew that. He would know if it was something bad.

"Yeah", Wally whispered back. "They just had a run-in with the Red Hood earlier."

The Red Hood? Hal thought that he remembered that name. A Gotham-based Rogue, of that he was pretty sure.

"I guess it didn't go well?"

"I guess not. Nightwing and Red Arrow both had a fight with him recently."

Hal looked at Nightwing and Red Arrow again, who were now hissing something about the other one ruined the whole thing for the other.

"I see." Hal knew how these things went. A rogue or villain wronged you, and you wanted to fight them and bring them to justice by yourself. "Let me guess, both of them wanted to catch the Red Hood, and with the both of them trying to do it, he managed to give both of them the slip?" It happened to even the best of team mates every once in a while.

Wally's face did a series of very rapid expressions, ones that Hal, even with all of his years of dealing with a speedster, could not quite catch.

Still, Hal thought that momentarily, Wally looked like he wanted to laugh.

"Something like that", Wally ended up saying. He definitely sounded like he knew something that Hal didn't.

Hal didn't get the time to ask, because Nightwing and Red Arrow were getting louder with their argument, enough so that Batman and Green Arrow saw it fit to come in and separate the two.

"Can't you two just apologise?" Green Arrow asked.

"I am trying! Nightwing just had to block me with his huge stupid a-"

"Excuse me-!"

Green Arrow and Batman gave each other disturbingly identical tired looks, and that was enough to send Wally laughing, and in the middle of all of it, Hal was trying to decide whether he wanted to know or not.

DC announced several new cartoons in the works, including one called My Adventures with Green Lantern. It's confirmed it set in the same universe/timeline of My Adventures with Superman!!!

As for you filling in as Red Robin later on, it might be better to discuss it chronologically with Batman getting lost in the timestream and the no good very bad follow up conversation about who should wear the cowl that somehow ends up with you filling in as Nightwing.

Hi, love the FD au!! there was something you mentioned in one of the other asks about FD!MC filling in as Nightwing after the battle for the cowl and it’s been rotating in my brain like a microwave lmao

the entire lead up into the red robin series is such a mess, and i know FD!MC ended up helping Steph during her robin run so that probably turned out better than in the comics, but so many things happened and lots of people tim cared about died so i can imagine that she had her hands full…. poor mc

A/n: asdlakjsh a more humourous take on the follow up on Bruce getting lost in the time stream. Battle for the cowl is messy and Does Not Happen like it did here I guess.

So, Bruce is gone.

Exploded, vanished, died, and whatever during the battle with Darksied. Everyone is, for a lack of better words, bouncing off the walls but not quite falling apart at the seams yet. You're pretty sure Bruce is alive (something something timestream?????) and Tim is digging through something for a theory so you're calling a capital E, Emergency meeting.

The topic: Who is going to be the next Batman.

Right off the bat, Tim, Damian and Steph are automatically disqualified on accounts of being too young.

"Cass?"

"No. Would be The Bat, not Batman."

Fair enough.

“Jason?”

He scoffs. “Fuck no.”

“If he became Batman, he’d be an evil gun Batman who kills people,” Tim chimes in.

So that leaves Dick to inherit the world’s worst legacy.

You look at him.

He looks at you.

Everyone else’s eyes flick between the two of you.

“What are you looking at me for?” You raise an eyebrow.

“Well, I just thought that, you know, you might… want…”

“No.”

Why was he looking at you anyways? You’re absolutely the wrong build to pretend to be Batman.

“If Richard is to become Batman-” Damian’s face twists a little. “Then, what is to become of Nightwing?”

There's a mischievous twinkle in Steph's eyes. "Well if we want the net number of vigilantes to be the same-"

"This is an awful idea," you say for the record as you cross your arms, dressed in Nightwing's suit.

"It's this or you become Batman." Dick, in the Batman suit, pats your shoulders and pulls the cowl over his head.

Your hand twitches.

Fuck Darksied and Bruce and the timestream. You are so not getting paid enough for this.

Been thinking about these pics cuz this flight scene was so thrilling!!!

I was so blown away by it when I watched it for the first time. Also Kal's way of flying was different from Superman as he has both hands backwards. I really liked the minor detail of not closing his eyes (if I remember correctly it was Tom's idea.)
