When your Character is Sleep Deprived
Sleep Deprivation - occurs when you donât routinely get sufficient sleep at night.
Seven to eight hours of quality sleep time is the baseline for most adults, yet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that one third of American adults suffer from measurable sleep loss.
This lack of sleep can lead to disruptions in everyday life, from grogginess and delayed reaction times to serious medical conditions.
Causes of Sleep Deprivation
Many factors can prevent you from getting a good night's sleep. These include:
Sleep disorders: Certain conditions like sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome can interfere with healthy sleep.
Mental health conditions: Depression and anxiety can be sources of severe sleep deprivation.
External stimuli: Loud noises, bright lights, and hot temperatures can all prevent you from getting enough sleep.
Work schedules: Shift work at night can clash with your natural circadian rhythms and trigger sleep deprivation.
Physical activity: Exercise can inhibit sleep onset if scheduled too close to bedtime.
Effects of Sleep Deprivation
The consequences of sleep deprivation can be serious. A person operating on insufficient sleep may face increased risk of the following effects.
Daytime drowsiness: A poorly rested person can go through the day feeling groggy. This can lead to drowsy driving, car accidents, mental slip-ups, and poor cognition.
Microsleep: In addition to general drowsiness, a person running on very little sleep can experience microsleepâvery short bursts of unconsciousness that feel like blacking out.
Mood swings: A person overcome by sleepiness may be cranky and irritable, and they may also experience headaches that further sour their mood.
Memory issues: Poor sleep patterns that cause a person to get less sleep have the potential to affect memory recall.
Tips for Avoiding Sleep Deprivation
To ensure you get consistent and sufficient sleep duration, consider the following strategies.
Stick to a bedtime routine. Sleep difficulties can stem from inconsistent schedules and routines. Improve your sleep hygiene by creating consistent sleep habits and a bedtime routine. This may involve stretching, an evening shower, or a cup of tea.
Avoid digital screens before bed. The blue light of electronics can mimic the effects of sunlight and prevent your body from entering its natural sleep cycle. Keep digital devices out of the bedroom, and when you must use them before bed, use a blue light filter that keeps the most disruptive light out of your eyes.
Consider a natural sleep remedy. Supplemental melatonin can help you fall asleep when your routine sleep schedule has been disrupted. Take care to not build reliance on sleep medications that may dampen the restorative effects of REM sleep and non-REM sleep.
Lower the temperature of your bedroom. A nighttime room temperature of 60 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit signals to your brain that itâs time to sleep.
Practice mindful relaxation techniques. A bedtime ritual of deep breathing exercises and slow exhales can promote progressive muscle relaxation. Mindfulness can also eliminate tension while allowing your body to drift into drowsiness and get enough hours of sleep.
Monitor your health conditions. Certain medical conditions, like sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome, can impair sleep onset and deprive you of sleep over the course of the night. Seek medical advice for handling such conditions, and work with your healthcare provider to develop treatment and coping strategies.

Sleepy girl
A/n: I am not a doctor nor have any medical knowledge. I used Google and I hope I did the request justice! Also, the first time I am writing smut! Good luck to us all.
Warnings: narcolepsy and smut
Request by @gregsgoodlookingneighbour : House has a girlfriend with narcolepsy
Masterlist
Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that affects the brain's ability to control sleep-wake cycles. Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that causes an urge to fall asleep suddenly during the daytime thatâs almost impossible to resist.
You were diagnosed after a car accident brought you to Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. You fell asleep while driving and got hit by the car behind you, you were prescribed Armodafinil and Modafinil. Stimulants to help keep you awake and alert; and to help with your follow up Dr. House suggested dinner once a week, which turned to early coffee runs, sleepovers, and occasional lunches.
The humble man that he was, Dr. Greg House loved to remind you that he was the one to put the clues together and diagnose you, to remind you what a great partner you have.
When you moved in together, he made sure every morning that you took your meds, which is why he was extra worried when one morning he woke up to see you breathe and move your eyes, but you couldnât talk or move the rest of your body.
Seeing the panic in your eyes, he sat closer to you and stroked your hair and with his other hand he held yours.
âYouâre having sleep paralysis, a temporary inability to move or speak. It should pass on its own in a few minutes.â
You wanted to nod or say something, but you couldnât.
He stayed home with you that day, he also changed your prescription.
Sometimes, when youâre sleepy all the time, that can affect your sex life. You might not feel like having sex as often, but when you do itâs always mind-blowing.
Greg was a generous lover and as a doctor, he understood that your low sex drive is not in either of your hands. However, when you were in the mood, like when he came home from work one day wearing a red dress shirt, something about it just instantly turned you on.
âHad a mom today, diagnosed with schizophrenia. Turned out to be Wilsonâs disease.â
Taking his blazer off he sat down next to you on the couch, âAlso had a mom who tried to get me to tell her daughter to diet.â
Taking him in, you slowly folded your legs underneath you to sit on your knees facing him. He leaned his head back, his eyes closed.
âYouâre not listening are you?â
You didnât reply, proving him right. Instead, you straddled his legs and moved to kiss his neck.
Cupping your face he pushed you back so he could crash his lips against yours. Lifting your(his) shirt, he slipped his fingers down to rub against your dampened panties. Tapping his chest, you pulled back, âOff.â you tell him, indicating your and his clothes. Standing you pushed your panties off and carelessly threw them behind you before unbuttoning his pants, not bothering to take them off, just pulled his pants and boxers down enough to expose his hard dick. Sinking to your knees, you wrapped your fingers around the base and slowly licked up the shaft but gasped in surprise he grabbed your hair to pull you away, âI want to be inside you.â
Nodding you giggle at first but the second his fingers dig into your waist you realize itâs no joke so you return to your place on his lap.
Slowly sinking,
âFuck (Y/N)⊠youâre so fucking tight,â He mumbled as you waited until you adjusted to his size, leaning your head against his shoulder for comfort. you gasp as you stretch around him, stilling your body as you let it accustom to his girth.
âGonna make sure you sleep well tonight.â He murmured against your ear.
You slowly lifted yourself, almost pulling away from his dick completely before you let yourself sink back down, clenching around him again as his fingernails dug into the side of your hips. You started to pick up pace, switching between grinding and moving up and down on him, his grunts encouraging you even more. He watched as your tits bounced with each movement, your head thrown back in pleasure as you let soft moans escape, a sight he saw both hot and beautiful at the same time. A strangled whine travels up your throat, and you moan softly, your body shook, trying to force your thighs to do their job and move.
âIâm close,â you whispered.
âI can feel it, let go.â
As your body tensed he felt you clench around him, your moans becoming more and more incoherent as you let your body release itself, your eyes now pricking with tears from pure pleasure. He gritted his teeth together at the feeling of you cumming around his dick, which only pushed him even more to cum inside you. He gave a few more messy thrusts before he let himself cum, letting out a few grunts as he wrapped his arms around your waist and clung to you, hugging you as he rode out his orgasm.
You were both sweating and now panting for air, exhausted from the rough but passionate actions. You felt him rest his head against your shoulder.
You started to lift yourself off him, but he only gripped you harder and let out a grunt, making you pause, âarenât I hurting your leg?â You asked quietly.
He shook his head âDonât move yet, just stay for a second,â His voice was still raspy. Even though he would never say it out loud, he loved the way you felt when you just sat there, letting him be inside you as you warmed his cock, especially after you guys were done having a rough session.
After sitting a few more minutes in just the silence, you started to lift yourself again, this time he didnât stop you. You sat down beside him on the couch, he wrapped his arm around you before turning his head to look at you, âNot that Iâm complaining but what was that about?â
Blushing you tucked your head into his shoulder before replying, âItâs your damn shirt.â

Spoilers for S2 Ep11 of Helluva boss MASTERMIND!!
Iâll talk about Satan and Leviathan later but I just need to rant about Belphagor!
Her design is sooo pretty and really unique. She doesnât have any speaking roles (yet) but her look alone says so much about her!
The fact that sheâs a Sheep really fits her since theyâre fluffy and wooly animals used for blankets and people count sheep to go to sleep. (And idk why but her neck and candle makes her look like a Giraffe, which have poor sleep schedules that only last 20-30 minutes per day)
Belphagor being a Candlehead Demon kinda shocked me since Candleheads belong to the demon deity Baphomet, but it makes sense since Candles are known to improve sleep quality. And, with her being asleep and all that, it makes sense that someone else would run Sloth for her.
Talking about the Ring actually. The Sloth Ring produces pills and medicines (drugs) to other demons. The Happy-pills that Stolas have (antidepressants) and the Sleepy pills that we see on BlitzĂžâs phone.
Sloth is also the medical ring. Where Barb was placed in Rehab, Stolas got healed when he got kidnapped and tortured, and where Loona got her Shot.
Itâs clear that she has Narcolepsy;Chronic daytime sleep disorder as she sleeps though most of the Trial. Sloth being the Medical ring (only âPROPERâ one with right actual supplies) may be the cause to her drowsiness actually.

mini hc request: m6 with mc who is always sleepy but can't sleep when its time to actually sleep
The Arcana Mini-HCs: M6 with a sleepy MC who can't sleep
Julian: initially tries to solve the problem by lining up every medical solution he can think of and trying each one. gives up after the fifth and starts begging sleeping soup off of Mazelinka each week
Asra: even more upset about it than you because sleeping is their second favorite thing to do and that sounds awful. Teaches you several spells for falling asleep and staying awake when you need to
Nadia: she can relate more than she would like to from her post-coma insomnia. She is going to supply you with all the cooling pillows, sleepytime, and wakeytime tea you could possibly need
Muriel: so stressed out that you're constantly too sleepy to remain alert to your surroundings in case of attack. Gives you his cloak to use as a weighted blanket for daytime naps while he stands guard
Portia: thinks your sleepy face is the most adorable thing in the world. More than happy to brew the coffee she stole off her brother to help you stay awake. (And Pepi's purrs are magic for combating insomnia)
Lucio: kept trying not to be insulted by the fact that you're too sleepy to pay full attention to his greatness. Now he uses it as an excuse for extra traveling breaks. Loves staying up late with you to gossip

I have become a THESIS MONSTER AAAAAAAAAA
I actually drank too much coffee while sleep deprived and ended up writing 2 pages of my thesis in like 2 hours (which is a lot for me, really) and have lots of ideas of what to add next, so I'll probably write another 2 pages yet today. That's such progress!! I'm really excited seeing the text come to life. A big thank you to my boyfriend who supports me and cheers me up when i send him a text every 30min saying how many words I wrote of my thesis :D
So, let's start from the beginning: I woke up at 6:30 am to go to class, and it hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. I'm managing to go to bed around midnight, which is still late but is good enough to survive 2 hours of class. Hopefully it will continue like this or better! I kinda enjoyed waking up early? Yes, I start feeling sleepy when I get home at 10 am but there's so many hours of sun available when one wakes up early. So even if I take a nap, I still have a lot of daytime to enjoy.
After class, at 9am, I went to a store to pick up a usb hub I bought on the internet for my computer, and only then did I go home. Read a chapter of a philosophy / politics book I got from a professor in the subway. It was quite interesting for my research! Spent the next hours at home doing research and writing my thesis.
Then, I did some medical documentation stuff cus i have some appointments to go to. I then read a couple of chapters of Isaac Asimov's The Naked Sun. Then I went to gym and exercised a little! I am so weak lol I gotta change that... After taking a shower and eating, I played some minecraft, wrote one last paragraph of my thesis, then finished the day watching Seven Samurai with my bf âĄ

Hmmm... We've done a moth cryptid au... So... what about some bee crytpids or beings or something? I present to you all, a revised/expanded version of my Nectar of the Bees AU!!!
Reader winds up in a mysterious small town in the middle of nowhere, with no recollection of how they got there or what they were doing before they woke up one day in this sleepy town. The only clue they have is a small mark on their palm, a three small hexagons in the shape of honeycomb... Reader tries to find our what they can of this quiet place, with its old buildings and museums, it's sleepy diner and Mom-and-Pop store, the woods that stretch for miles and the road that leads to a valley with high paths and cliffs...
Reader meets some strange characters, from odd, unblinking and blank humans, to the jittery teen who rushes around a lot, to the strange man who seems to stalk into town every few days... Reader doesn't know what to trust, as each night they have such strange, awful dreams, of being in a large place, full of almost alien technology... It looks like a clinic of sorts, with a fountain and pool inside and different waiting rooms, yet... the deeper you go back, the more strange they become... Rooms almost like holding cells, strange chairs with straps, suspicious security and white, tiled rooms...
That's not to mention the area, a bit away from the clinic, with its yawning, black entrance and the strange, shiny black floors and walls. Waiting inside, down the twisting halls, are different cells... One has more chairs with straps, and there are different needles in the room... but farther down the halls, up stairs and then down in a tight spiral, is a warm, dark room, full of soft fluff and warmth...
And the beings in these dreams... almost bee-like, with darker eyes and stingers in their wrists and hands... The blank black beings that do whatever they're told by the more human-appearing ones, who cluck their tongues when Reader runs and who help strap them down, cooing softly and stroking their head... Or the fluffier ones in the dark, warm room, in pale yellows and golds and blacks, who tug Reader into warm hugs and seem to drag them under into sleep...
The dreams end, with Reader wondering who the strange beings they saw were, why they chased Reader and drugged them and held them down, and why after these dreams, Reader woukd wake up in the middle of the field just outside of town where the dirt road to the old medical clinic goes...
Reader visits in the daytime, wanting to see if they're crazy, but all they find is a Gothic girl dressed in green who smiles at them and man with dark blueish-black hair who asks if they're okay...
And so Reader wanders back to town, digging deeper into the mystery of the strange beings in their dreams and the odd going-ons of this sleepy, forgotten town...
( @sugar-soda and @c0ld0utside Some insect cryptids/mutants/beings, coming right up!)

A majority of adults showed persistent sleep disturbance or daytime sleepiness up to twelve months after covid infection. "Just a cold."
Objective: To examine the long-term impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) on sleep patterns and prevalence of sleep disorders and to increase public health awareness of long COVID. MATERIAL AND
Methods: Using the centralized Massachusetts General Brigham Research Patient Data Registry (RPDR), severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-positive patients were surveyed about their sleep patterns before and after the viral infection. Information related to co-morbid conditions and medications was obtained through chart review.
Results: Two hundred forty-six completed surveys were analyzed. The average age was 53.3 ± 16.3 years, and participants were predominantly non-Hispanic White (84.1%) and female (74.3%). The average BMI (kg/m2 ) was 29.9 ± 6.9, and a greater proportion were non-smokers (63.2%). After COVID-19, there was an increase in the percentage of participants reporting difficulty initiating sleep (39 ± 49% vs 31 ± 46% prior to COVID infection, P = .01). Similarly, the participants reported difficulty maintaining sleep after COVID infection (57% vs 43% prior to infection P < .001). Additionally, there was an increase in the use of sleep aids (30% vs 24% before the infection, P = .003). The participants also reported a decrease in feeling rested and an increase in the need for napping (58% vs. 36%, P < .0001) and (27% vs. 40%, P < .0001), respectively. The sleep symptoms persisted beyond 12 months among 28% of the participants.
Conclusion: Infection by SARS-CoV-2 was shown to have negative effects on sleep, and a significant proportion of adults experienced insomnia and daytime sleepiness beyond 12 months after recovering from the initial infection.

à©â© importance of sleep
Hello angels đđ Iâve been struggling with my sleep schedule lately so Iâm writing this to remind and help anyone who is in the same dilemma as me~
Sleep is critical for a healthy mind and body, so prioritise your sleep before anything else for a balanced lifestyle !!
Below is information from a Harvard blog:
According to the National Sleep Foundation, high school students (ages 14-17) need about eight to 10 hours of sleep each night. For young adults (ages 18 to 25), the range is need between seven and nine hours. However most donât follow this expectation and therefore experience many negative consequences.
Signs of chronic sleep deprivation include:
đDaytime sleepiness and fatigue
đIrritability and short temper
đMood changes
đTrouble coping with stress
đDifficulty focusing, concentrating, and remembering
đBrain fog
đWeight gain and obesity
đCardiovascular disease
đType 2 diabetes.
Students who prioritize sleep are better able to cope with the stress that comes with being an active student.
âItâs a vicious circle where the more stressed you get, the less you sleep, and the less you sleep, the more stressed you get. And in the long term, that can lead to serious psychiatric problems,â says Dr. Edward Pace-Schott, Harvard Summer School and Harvard Medical School faculty member and sleep expert.
In the worst case scenario, the combination of lack of sleep and stress can lead to mental health disorders such as depression, general anxiety disorder, and potentially even post-traumatic stress disorder.
Tips for getting more sleep as a student
The key to getting a good nightâs sleep is establishing healthy sleep habits, also known as sleep hygiene.
The first step is deciding to make sleep a priority.
Staying ahead of coursework and avoiding distractions and procrastination while you study is key to avoiding the need for late night study sessions. And prioritizing sleep may mean leaving a party early or choosing your social engagements carefully.
Yet the rewardâfeeling awake and alert the next morningâwill reinforce that positive choice.
The next step is establishing healthy bedtime and daytime patterns to promote good quality sleep.
Pace-Schott offers the following tips on steps you can take to create healthy sleep hygiene:
đLimit caffeine in close proximity to bed time. College students should also avoid alcohol intake, which disrupts quality sleep.
đAvoid electronic screens (phone, laptop, tablet, desktop) within an hour of bedtime.
đEngage in daily physical exercise, but avoid intense exercise within two hours of bedtime.
đEstablish a sleep schedule. Be as consistent as possible in your bedtime and rise time, and get exposure to morning sunlight.
đEstablish a âwind-downâ routine prior to bedtime.
đLimit use of bed for daily activities other than sleep (e.g., TV, work, eating)
Good luck angels

Have you considered trying dramamine? Medication usually doesn't put me to sleep but I took dramamine once out of curiosity. A half hour later my girlfriend is straddling me, sliding me inside her while I'm trying desperately to keep my eyes open.
Okay first off. Hot. Second, I've taken dramamine once for actual anti-nausea purposes and it sadly barely worked on me :(( both for the nausea and it didn't really make me sleep either!! I took one dose and waited for like three hours, then took a second dose (after checking to make sure that was safe) and only then did I start to feel slightly better....
My body metabolizes some medications differently than other people, it seems like! I had really bad hypersomnia a few years back and they prescribed me armodafinil, which for people who don't know, is a STROG stimulant, usually used to treat severe daytime sleepiness disorders like narcolepsy, and is also prescribed to people like nurses who work 24+ shifts and cross country truckers. They warned me to take half of one pill at first, and never take it later than 8am so it'd start wearing off by 10pm
I took a full dose and then a five hour nap I the middle of the day. And then slept 12 hours that night
Anyway that's super off topic I'm just saying my body doesn't know what it's doing

medication talk lol
heck yeah, psychologist approved me to try adderall. we've been trying strattera for a good while now, and it just really feels like it's not done much if anything, but we were trying that as it's a non-stimulant adhd med because when I'd tried ritalin, and as we went up dosages to try to get it to work, it shot my anxiety thru the roof. BUT!!! it was my primary who'd prescribed that, since i convinced her under the guise of trying it for my fatigue (which was also an actual reason i wanted to try it to do like that wasn't a lie lol). but being a primary and not a psychologist, the intricacies of more specialized meds aren't what she specializes in, and according to my psych, i was very likely given the immediate release version, which could absolutely be the cause of that extreme level of anxiety it gave me. sooooo the adderall is gonna be extended release, which should ALSO help with my excessive daytime sleepiness, since it'll be replacing my modafinil for that since they are both simulants, just believe adderall is a stronger one (WHICH WOULD BE AMAZING FOR ME TO ACTUALLY FEEL EVEN MORE AWAKE I HOPE bc the modafinil helps a lot!!!! but i absolutely still do feel sleepy like all day lol).

24. November is Non24 Awareness Day
Non24 is a chronic neurological 'circadian rhythm' disorder (like Advanced, Delayed and Irregular Sleep) - primarily affecting the sleep rhythm, but also many other bodily functions, which are all inter-connected, such as appetite and digestion, temperature and immune system, energy and concentration or mood & mental health.
It is a very rare disease and therefore not much is known about it. As a matter of fact, and quite unfortunately, many of the medical professionals still believe it only affects blind people without light perception as the sun is the most important 'zeitgeber', when all evidence proves sighted people can suffer from it as well.
It can also be easily misdiagnosed (e.g. idiopathic insomnia/ hypersomnia or depression etc.), if there is a diagnosis at all and not only prejudiced social judgement, so that you don't even get to a sleep expert. It must be assumed that there is a high number of undetected or unreported cases, especially among sighted people.
There are very few and very limited treatment options. Those available to me, I have tried without success.
At best, they don't really work, at worst, they make me feel worse. Personally, and like most others I know of thanks to our facebook support group, I feel most healthy when free-running (meaning I follow my body's inherent rhythm and sleep when I'm tired), instead of forcing myself to day-walk and try to entrain to a more normal (= the modern average) sleep pattern (sleeping only at night, staying awake throughout the daytimes), which at some point is simply impossible for me either way - after some time of (good or any at all) sleep deprivation, my body crashes due to the lack of sleep.
I have Sighted Non24. My day is about 25 hours long.
This means that instead of having stable wake and sleep times (e.g. a 24 hour day with 8 hours of sleep between 22 and 6 o'clock and 16 hours spent awake), one day I become tired at 22 o'clock, the next at 23, the day after that at 24. If I have to get up at a certain point in time for work or university, it ultimately results in less and less sleep.
I am unable to sleep when my body is not sleepy, I literally just roll around in bed doing nothing, tired but awake. Even after a week or more of this, with the hours of missed sleep adding up, my exhaustion does not put me to sleep.
When it comes to the point where I become sleepy just as I have to get up, for a few days I might even be able to "just work through" my night, until in the end the sleep deprivation - basically the complete lack of healthy rest - literally forces my body to shut down and I fall asleep in my seat during lectures or standing in the bus.
It is an invisible disability. It's well on its way to completely destroy my life, because I am unable to even finish the education needed for jobs I could do at home on my own time.
It was a war, battle after battle to even get this diagnosis. I am still fighting to get actual disability accomoditions.

I always wondered why adhd medication helped my social anxiety so much and why I feel less overwhelmed and scared of being physically seen by others and why it lessens dissociation in/around crowds. But today, with the stress of the serious thing that happened and the attention I was required to give that situation in addition to the incessant barking and the yelling of people around me, I ended up super overstimulated =_= at some point in the middle of the day before I freaked out I took an adderall and when I later on started crying I thought I shouldn't have taken it because it'll make it worse as it kicks in later. But then later when I felt it had started working, I realized it also felt soothing and relieved me of a good portion of the sensory burdens I had stuck to me from the day. I thought it only made me feel less overwhelmed in a social and productive/initiative way but ^_^
I've never been able to find anyone else other than my mother who found that vyvanse helped with anxiety but I did some searching and a lot of autistic people said it helps with sensory overload. Obviously if the dose is too much it does the opposite and makes me very anxious and irritable but wjatever like obviously.. Anyway I think people write off stimulants because they already have severe anxiety and don't want to add more anxiety on top of that but it might not be as much of a contradiction as people assume. My anxiety has always been extremely severe enough to earn a selective mutism diagnosis and I'm just sensitive and easily overwhelmed, and I use stimulants for fatigue, excessive daytime sleepiness, and binge eating instead of adhd which I don't have. psych was hesitant to re-prescribe wellbutrin because kf my anxiety but erm well yeah. but like basically km such a person who people would tell to stay away from stimulants but it's quite the opposite like all those reasons are exactly why I find it useful.. I'm just wondering how many other people might be similar but assumed otherwise. so yeah

Had a sleep neuro appointment today.
Got to report that Sunosi has been the only medication to make a difference in my daytime sleepiness. And that was only at half the dose most people take.
I was at one tablet so only 75mg. Gonna titrate up to 150mg. Taking the second pill closer to the middle of the day (but no later than 1pm if I want to sleep at night).
While I'm significantly less sleepy during the day, I am still very tired. Not fatigued - haven't had a high fatigue day in a while - but just tired. So I'm hoping that upping the Sunosi helps with that a bit.
Hopefully my insurance won't throw a fit about the prescription being for 2 75mg tabs instead of 1 150mg tab.
