Narcolepsy is the dumbest chronic health condition from the outside. It's like. Aww, is baby eepy? Are you big eepy, eepy baby? Need a lil nip nap all the time?
Do meth about it, idiot.

[Breaths deeply]
I might not actually be a secondary narcoleptic; it turns out that I might just be really bad at absorbing iron. There is also a chance that I am secretly both.

When your Character is Sleep Deprived
Tumblr media
Sleep Deprivation - occurs when you don’t routinely get sufficient sleep at night.
Seven to eight hours of quality sleep time is the baseline for most adults, yet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that one third of American adults suffer from measurable sleep loss.
This lack of sleep can lead to disruptions in everyday life, from grogginess and delayed reaction times to serious medical conditions.
Causes of Sleep Deprivation
Many factors can prevent you from getting a good night's sleep. These include:
Sleep disorders: Certain conditions like sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome can interfere with healthy sleep.
Mental health conditions: Depression and anxiety can be sources of severe sleep deprivation.
External stimuli: Loud noises, bright lights, and hot temperatures can all prevent you from getting enough sleep.
Work schedules: Shift work at night can clash with your natural circadian rhythms and trigger sleep deprivation.
Physical activity: Exercise can inhibit sleep onset if scheduled too close to bedtime.
Effects of Sleep Deprivation
The consequences of sleep deprivation can be serious. A person operating on insufficient sleep may face increased risk of the following effects.
Daytime drowsiness: A poorly rested person can go through the day feeling groggy. This can lead to drowsy driving, car accidents, mental slip-ups, and poor cognition.
Microsleep: In addition to general drowsiness, a person running on very little sleep can experience microsleep—very short bursts of unconsciousness that feel like blacking out.
Mood swings: A person overcome by sleepiness may be cranky and irritable, and they may also experience headaches that further sour their mood.
Memory issues: Poor sleep patterns that cause a person to get less sleep have the potential to affect memory recall.
Tips for Avoiding Sleep Deprivation
To ensure you get consistent and sufficient sleep duration, consider the following strategies.
Stick to a bedtime routine. Sleep difficulties can stem from inconsistent schedules and routines. Improve your sleep hygiene by creating consistent sleep habits and a bedtime routine. This may involve stretching, an evening shower, or a cup of tea.
Avoid digital screens before bed. The blue light of electronics can mimic the effects of sunlight and prevent your body from entering its natural sleep cycle. Keep digital devices out of the bedroom, and when you must use them before bed, use a blue light filter that keeps the most disruptive light out of your eyes.
Consider a natural sleep remedy. Supplemental melatonin can help you fall asleep when your routine sleep schedule has been disrupted. Take care to not build reliance on sleep medications that may dampen the restorative effects of REM sleep and non-REM sleep.
Lower the temperature of your bedroom. A nighttime room temperature of 60 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit signals to your brain that it’s time to sleep.
Practice mindful relaxation techniques. A bedtime ritual of deep breathing exercises and slow exhales can promote progressive muscle relaxation. Mindfulness can also eliminate tension while allowing your body to drift into drowsiness and get enough hours of sleep.
Monitor your health conditions. Certain medical conditions, like sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome, can impair sleep onset and deprive you of sleep over the course of the night. Seek medical advice for handling such conditions, and work with your healthcare provider to develop treatment and coping strategies.

A/n: I am not a doctor nor have any medical knowledge. I used Google and I hope I did the request justice! Also, the first time I am writing smut! Good luck to us all.
Warnings: narcolepsy and smut
Request by @gregsgoodlookingneighbour : House has a girlfriend with narcolepsy
Masterlist
Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that affects the brain's ability to control sleep-wake cycles. Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that causes an urge to fall asleep suddenly during the daytime that’s almost impossible to resist.
You were diagnosed after a car accident brought you to Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. You fell asleep while driving and got hit by the car behind you, you were prescribed Armodafinil and Modafinil. Stimulants to help keep you awake and alert; and to help with your follow up Dr. House suggested dinner once a week, which turned to early coffee runs, sleepovers, and occasional lunches.
The humble man that he was, Dr. Greg House loved to remind you that he was the one to put the clues together and diagnose you, to remind you what a great partner you have.
When you moved in together, he made sure every morning that you took your meds, which is why he was extra worried when one morning he woke up to see you breathe and move your eyes, but you couldn’t talk or move the rest of your body.
Seeing the panic in your eyes, he sat closer to you and stroked your hair and with his other hand he held yours.
“You’re having sleep paralysis, a temporary inability to move or speak. It should pass on its own in a few minutes.”
You wanted to nod or say something, but you couldn’t.
He stayed home with you that day, he also changed your prescription.
Sometimes, when you’re sleepy all the time, that can affect your sex life. You might not feel like having sex as often, but when you do it’s always mind-blowing.
Greg was a generous lover and as a doctor, he understood that your low sex drive is not in either of your hands. However, when you were in the mood, like when he came home from work one day wearing a red dress shirt, something about it just instantly turned you on.
“Had a mom today, diagnosed with schizophrenia. Turned out to be Wilson’s disease.”
Taking his blazer off he sat down next to you on the couch, “Also had a mom who tried to get me to tell her daughter to diet.”
Taking him in, you slowly folded your legs underneath you to sit on your knees facing him. He leaned his head back, his eyes closed.
“You’re not listening are you?”
You didn’t reply, proving him right. Instead, you straddled his legs and moved to kiss his neck.
Cupping your face he pushed you back so he could crash his lips against yours. Lifting your(his) shirt, he slipped his fingers down to rub against your dampened panties. Tapping his chest, you pulled back, “Off.” you tell him, indicating your and his clothes. Standing you pushed your panties off and carelessly threw them behind you before unbuttoning his pants, not bothering to take them off, just pulled his pants and boxers down enough to expose his hard dick. Sinking to your knees, you wrapped your fingers around the base and slowly licked up the shaft but gasped in surprise he grabbed your hair to pull you away, “I want to be inside you.”
Nodding you giggle at first but the second his fingers dig into your waist you realize it’s no joke so you return to your place on his lap.
Slowly sinking,
“Fuck (Y/N)
you’re so fucking tight,” He mumbled as you waited until you adjusted to his size, leaning your head against his shoulder for comfort. you gasp as you stretch around him, stilling your body as you let it accustom to his girth.
“Gonna make sure you sleep well tonight.” He murmured against your ear.
You slowly lifted yourself, almost pulling away from his dick completely before you let yourself sink back down, clenching around him again as his fingernails dug into the side of your hips. You started to pick up pace, switching between grinding and moving up and down on him, his grunts encouraging you even more. He watched as your tits bounced with each movement, your head thrown back in pleasure as you let soft moans escape, a sight he saw both hot and beautiful at the same time. A strangled whine travels up your throat, and you moan softly, your body shook, trying to force your thighs to do their job and move.
“I’m close,” you whispered.
“I can feel it, let go.”
As your body tensed he felt you clench around him, your moans becoming more and more incoherent as you let your body release itself, your eyes now pricking with tears from pure pleasure. He gritted his teeth together at the feeling of you cumming around his dick, which only pushed him even more to cum inside you. He gave a few more messy thrusts before he let himself cum, letting out a few grunts as he wrapped his arms around your waist and clung to you, hugging you as he rode out his orgasm.
You were both sweating and now panting for air, exhausted from the rough but passionate actions. You felt him rest his head against your shoulder.
You started to lift yourself off him, but he only gripped you harder and let out a grunt, making you pause, “aren’t I hurting your leg?” You asked quietly.
He shook his head “Don’t move yet, just stay for a second,” His voice was still raspy. Even though he would never say it out loud, he loved the way you felt when you just sat there, letting him be inside you as you warmed his cock, especially after you guys were done having a rough session.
After sitting a few more minutes in just the silence, you started to lift yourself again, this time he didn’t stop you. You sat down beside him on the couch, he wrapped his arm around you before turning his head to look at you, “Not that I’m complaining but what was that about?”
Blushing you tucked your head into his shoulder before replying, “It’s your damn shirt.”

A majority of adults showed persistent sleep disturbance or daytime sleepiness up to twelve months after covid infection. "Just a cold."
Objective: To examine the long-term impact of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) on sleep patterns and prevalence of sleep disorders and to increase public health awareness of long COVID. MATERIAL AND
Methods: Using the centralized Massachusetts General Brigham Research Patient Data Registry (RPDR), severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-positive patients were surveyed about their sleep patterns before and after the viral infection. Information related to co-morbid conditions and medications was obtained through chart review.
Results: Two hundred forty-six completed surveys were analyzed. The average age was 53.3 ± 16.3 years, and participants were predominantly non-Hispanic White (84.1%) and female (74.3%). The average BMI (kg/m2 ) was 29.9 ± 6.9, and a greater proportion were non-smokers (63.2%). After COVID-19, there was an increase in the percentage of participants reporting difficulty initiating sleep (39 ± 49% vs 31 ± 46% prior to COVID infection, P = .01). Similarly, the participants reported difficulty maintaining sleep after COVID infection (57% vs 43% prior to infection P < .001). Additionally, there was an increase in the use of sleep aids (30% vs 24% before the infection, P = .003). The participants also reported a decrease in feeling rested and an increase in the need for napping (58% vs. 36%, P < .0001) and (27% vs. 40%, P < .0001), respectively. The sleep symptoms persisted beyond 12 months among 28% of the participants.
Conclusion: Infection by SARS-CoV-2 was shown to have negative effects on sleep, and a significant proportion of adults experienced insomnia and daytime sleepiness beyond 12 months after recovering from the initial infection.

My #1 tip for my fellow Side Effects Georg friends is that if a medication causes daytime fatigue/drowsiness/sleepiness you can usually just switch to taking it at night. I take about half of my medications at night solely because I'm prone to daytime fatigue and sleepiness anyway. If a medication can cause it, it usually does. I've been able to revisit treatments I had previously rejected once I realized this family of side effects was no longer a problem for me. In particular I'm on a medication for my tachycardia that's hugely improved my life, which I was previously taken off of because I fell asleep in class repeatedly and was sent home. The doctor didn't even think to have me take it at night before I suggested it.

Spoilers for S2 Ep11 of Helluva boss MASTERMIND!!
I’ll talk about Satan and Leviathan later but I just need to rant about Belphagor!
Her design is sooo pretty and really unique. She doesn’t have any speaking roles (yet) but her look alone says so much about her!
Tumblr media
The fact that she’s a Sheep really fits her since they’re fluffy and wooly animals used for blankets and people count sheep to go to sleep. (And idk why but her neck and candle makes her look like a Giraffe, which have poor sleep schedules that only last 20-30 minutes per day)
Belphagor being a Candlehead Demon kinda shocked me since Candleheads belong to the demon deity Baphomet, but it makes sense since Candles are known to improve sleep quality. And, with her being asleep and all that, it makes sense that someone else would run Sloth for her.
Talking about the Ring actually. The Sloth Ring produces pills and medicines (drugs) to other demons. The Happy-pills that Stolas have (antidepressants) and the Sleepy pills that we see on Blitzþ’s phone.
Sloth is also the medical ring. Where Barb was placed in Rehab, Stolas got healed when he got kidnapped and tortured, and where Loona got her Shot.
It’s clear that she has Narcolepsy;Chronic daytime sleep disorder as she sleeps though most of the Trial. Sloth being the Medical ring (only ‘PROPER’ one with right actual supplies) may be the cause to her drowsiness actually.

Hmmm... We've done a moth cryptid au... So... what about some bee crytpids or beings or something? I present to you all, a revised/expanded version of my Nectar of the Bees AU!!!
Reader winds up in a mysterious small town in the middle of nowhere, with no recollection of how they got there or what they were doing before they woke up one day in this sleepy town. The only clue they have is a small mark on their palm, a three small hexagons in the shape of honeycomb... Reader tries to find our what they can of this quiet place, with its old buildings and museums, it's sleepy diner and Mom-and-Pop store, the woods that stretch for miles and the road that leads to a valley with high paths and cliffs...
Reader meets some strange characters, from odd, unblinking and blank humans, to the jittery teen who rushes around a lot, to the strange man who seems to stalk into town every few days... Reader doesn't know what to trust, as each night they have such strange, awful dreams, of being in a large place, full of almost alien technology... It looks like a clinic of sorts, with a fountain and pool inside and different waiting rooms, yet... the deeper you go back, the more strange they become... Rooms almost like holding cells, strange chairs with straps, suspicious security and white, tiled rooms...
That's not to mention the area, a bit away from the clinic, with its yawning, black entrance and the strange, shiny black floors and walls. Waiting inside, down the twisting halls, are different cells... One has more chairs with straps, and there are different needles in the room... but farther down the halls, up stairs and then down in a tight spiral, is a warm, dark room, full of soft fluff and warmth...
And the beings in these dreams... almost bee-like, with darker eyes and stingers in their wrists and hands... The blank black beings that do whatever they're told by the more human-appearing ones, who cluck their tongues when Reader runs and who help strap them down, cooing softly and stroking their head... Or the fluffier ones in the dark, warm room, in pale yellows and golds and blacks, who tug Reader into warm hugs and seem to drag them under into sleep...
The dreams end, with Reader wondering who the strange beings they saw were, why they chased Reader and drugged them and held them down, and why after these dreams, Reader woukd wake up in the middle of the field just outside of town where the dirt road to the old medical clinic goes...
Reader visits in the daytime, wanting to see if they're crazy, but all they find is a Gothic girl dressed in green who smiles at them and man with dark blueish-black hair who asks if they're okay...
And so Reader wanders back to town, digging deeper into the mystery of the strange beings in their dreams and the odd going-ons of this sleepy, forgotten town...

Do you have rover lore...? i can't find lore drop on your page...
I'm glad u asked!! ^^ i was planning to drop his information when i finished his char sheet but!
general info ⾜⾜ ‘ROVER’ TEEPAKORN KHAJEERUM ( àž˜àž”àž›àžàžŁ àž‚àžˆàž”àžŁàž±àžĄàžąàčŒ ) ↻
earth's fifth green lantern. a narcoleptic thai boy with unusually low self-esteem for someone his age, who's, frankly — afraid of everything that's out there. and yet constantly ran head into dangers anyway bcuz it’s the right thing to do. he regularly wonders to himself if he's even doing good enough due to excessive daytime sleepiness.
more under the cut!
terrified of hal jordan as parallax, he saw that underlying potential that HE could end up like that too IF he didn't keep himself in check, purposefully going out of his way to barely even try. held himself back out of generally being tired && afraid of the negative outcomes.
he knows what he's capable of, he's wielding one of the most powerful weapon in the entire universe .. and he were to be consumed by grief, god he's so scared.
but other than that?? an average guy, always looks drained out of his mind due to the amount of his parents debt, that, and also his little sister's medical bills. used to live in los angeles but moved to manchester, alabama due to financial reasons. freelance photographer since fifteen years old, kind of close with alex dewitt and regularly asked her for advices on how to improve the qualities of his photos!
he's a wallflower. both as rover and as green lantern, he's really, really shy, quiet and soft-spoken which kinda contrasted with the rest of the yj group's self-assured && energetic personalities. probably tried to be the voice of reason and reasonably gave up after a few days.
i'd say rover is kind and very patient due to constantly having to hold his willpower back && having to practically raise his younger sister because their parents are neglectful ( which probably is the cause of his abandonment && attachment issues. )
magical girls enthusiast, he's a fan of the entire pretty cure franchise, cardcaptor sakura, jewelpet && madoka magica. he loves making constructs inspired by the shows i’ve listed!
the media ( & to some extents, dc editorials ) acknowledge him as ‘kid lantern’ .. rover hated that name with an undying passion. luckily none of his friends called him that unless they want to bully him into not skipping his meals to save money /hj
speaking of friends, he's closest with greta, cissie, cassie && bart. with a particular emphasis on bart because they met in junior highschool! — i hced that rover's first debut would be in kyle's gl run, but he'd actually be a relevant character in impulse 1995, as one of bart's supporting cast w/ preston & carol
i originally planned for rover jst to be bart's friend, because, let's be honest — all flashes has their lantern best friends. alan & jay, hal & barry, kyle & wally, tai & irey, but.. as u can see, everything sorts got out of hands.
and.. pulselantern exists now. boyfriend, yay!! codependency but I'll elaborate bart and rover's relationship another day..
also.. he's kyle's mentee. it's less of a mentor/mentee situation && more of a ‘learning the rope' together tbh. rover viewed kyle as an older brother figure — someone he could run to. considering his parents, kyle is probably the most positive adult influence in his life.
that, and ganthet.
..which is saying something.
tldr; i combined peter parker and mob from mob psycho for my thai-rep semi-self insert oc! 100%

I have become a THESIS MONSTER AAAAAAAAAA
I actually drank too much coffee while sleep deprived and ended up writing 2 pages of my thesis in like 2 hours (which is a lot for me, really) and have lots of ideas of what to add next, so I'll probably write another 2 pages yet today. That's such progress!! I'm really excited seeing the text come to life. A big thank you to my boyfriend who supports me and cheers me up when i send him a text every 30min saying how many words I wrote of my thesis :D
So, let's start from the beginning: I woke up at 6:30 am to go to class, and it hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. I'm managing to go to bed around midnight, which is still late but is good enough to survive 2 hours of class. Hopefully it will continue like this or better! I kinda enjoyed waking up early? Yes, I start feeling sleepy when I get home at 10 am but there's so many hours of sun available when one wakes up early. So even if I take a nap, I still have a lot of daytime to enjoy.
After class, at 9am, I went to a store to pick up a usb hub I bought on the internet for my computer, and only then did I go home. Read a chapter of a philosophy / politics book I got from a professor in the subway. It was quite interesting for my research! Spent the next hours at home doing research and writing my thesis.
Then, I did some medical documentation stuff cus i have some appointments to go to. I then read a couple of chapters of Isaac Asimov's The Naked Sun. Then I went to gym and exercised a little! I am so weak lol I gotta change that... After taking a shower and eating, I played some minecraft, wrote one last paragraph of my thesis, then finished the day watching Seven Samurai with my bf ♡

Ivelle, random question but whats the difference between narcolepsy type 1 and narcolepsy type 2 😇
😈
narcolepsy type one is a more rare type of narcolepsy that involves cataplexy. only about 20% of people who have narcolepsy have type one. cataplexy is a muscle disorder characterized by brief muscle tension or relaxation. this relaxation or tension is caused most commonly by extreme emotions (laughter, fear, anger, ect) which is why people with narcolepsy type one most often try to keep their emotions regulated with therapy or medication. cataplexy can effect specific muscular groups, most commonly facial muscles or the entire body. these episodes can last from 10 seconds to up to a few minutes. the thing so special about cataplexy is the person stays 100% awake and conscious during the episode. this is caused by a lack of the neurotransmitter hypocretin (some call it orexin if i’m not mistaken). this lack of hypocretin confuses your brain into thinking you’re in the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep state, causing excessive sleepiness and said cataplexy attacks. these attacks vary in severity. some might have a brief drop in facial muscles, while other may completely lose all muscular control. in children, though, cataplexy might be presented in episodes that make the child look disgusted or uncomfortable (facial muscular tension) and stick out their tongues (relaxation of the tongue and jaw muscles)
narcolepsy type two is more common with around 80% of people with narcolepsy having it. narcolepsy type two is characterized by extreme daytime fatigue, sluggishness, and sleepiness. like narcolepsy type one, narcolepsy type two is semi dependent on emotion. a person with narcolepsy two may feel tired after extreme emotions are expressed. some think this is due to the adrenaline that comes with extreme emotion, and the coming down from the high that comes alongside it.
(can we tell which type i find more interesting gyus)

ੈ✩ importance of sleep
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello angels 💗🎀 I’ve been struggling with my sleep schedule lately so I’m writing this to remind and help anyone who is in the same dilemma as me~
Sleep is critical for a healthy mind and body, so prioritise your sleep before anything else for a balanced lifestyle !!
Below is information from a Harvard blog:
According to the National Sleep Foundation, high school students (ages 14-17) need about eight to 10 hours of sleep each night. For young adults (ages 18 to 25), the range is need between seven and nine hours. However most don’t follow this expectation and therefore experience many negative consequences.
Signs of chronic sleep deprivation include:
🎀Daytime sleepiness and fatigue
🎀Irritability and short temper
🎀Mood changes
🎀Trouble coping with stress
🎀Difficulty focusing, concentrating, and remembering
🎀Brain fog
🎀Weight gain and obesity
🎀Cardiovascular disease
🎀Type 2 diabetes.
Students who prioritize sleep are better able to cope with the stress that comes with being an active student.
“It’s a vicious circle where the more stressed you get, the less you sleep, and the less you sleep, the more stressed you get. And in the long term, that can lead to serious psychiatric problems,” says Dr. Edward Pace-Schott, Harvard Summer School and Harvard Medical School faculty member and sleep expert.
In the worst case scenario, the combination of lack of sleep and stress can lead to mental health disorders such as depression, general anxiety disorder, and potentially even post-traumatic stress disorder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tips for getting more sleep as a student
The key to getting a good night’s sleep is establishing healthy sleep habits, also known as sleep hygiene.
The first step is deciding to make sleep a priority.
Staying ahead of coursework and avoiding distractions and procrastination while you study is key to avoiding the need for late night study sessions. And prioritizing sleep may mean leaving a party early or choosing your social engagements carefully.
Yet the reward—feeling awake and alert the next morning—will reinforce that positive choice.
The next step is establishing healthy bedtime and daytime patterns to promote good quality sleep.
Pace-Schott offers the following tips on steps you can take to create healthy sleep hygiene:
🎀Limit caffeine in close proximity to bed time. College students should also avoid alcohol intake, which disrupts quality sleep.
🎀Avoid electronic screens (phone, laptop, tablet, desktop) within an hour of bedtime.
🎀Engage in daily physical exercise, but avoid intense exercise within two hours of bedtime.
🎀Establish a sleep schedule. Be as consistent as possible in your bedtime and rise time, and get exposure to morning sunlight.
🎀Establish a “wind-down” routine prior to bedtime.
🎀Limit use of bed for daily activities other than sleep (e.g., TV, work, eating)

Writing Notes: Anxiety & Sleep
Tumblr media
Anxiety - an emotional condition characterized by extreme worry, fear, or discomfort.
Some anxiety is triggered by circumstantial stress, while chronic anxiety disorders may link to long-term mental health issues.
Symptoms may include increased breathing and heart rate, gastrointestinal distress, panic attacks, and sleep disruption.
Potential Effects of Interrupted Sleep
The lack of sleep that comes from interrupted sleep can make it harder for you to function during the day and can have harmful health ramifications in the long term. Common effects of interrupted sleep include:
Drowsiness: Excessive daytime fatigue, which feels similar to jet lag, can decrease mental acuity and memory retention.
Immune system impairment: Normal sleep can strengthen your immune system, and disturbed sleep can weaken your body’s ability to fight infection.
Mood swings: A person overcome by sleepiness may be cranky and irritable, and they may also experience headaches that further sour their mood.
Microsleep: In addition to general drowsiness, a person running on very little sleep can experience microsleep—very short bursts of unconsciousness that feel like blacking out.
Medical conditions: Chronic insomnia can exacerbate medical conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes and lead to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.
How Anxiety Affects Sleep
Chronic anxiety can affect your circadian rhythm and lead to poor sleep quality.
Sleep disorders caused by anxiety can include insomnia and sleep apnea.
A generalized anxiety disorder brought on by mental health conditions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), may lead to elevated sleep disturbances like nocturnal panic attacks and night terrors.
To address anxiety-induced sleep problems, seek advice and treatment options from a medical professional.
Tips for Reducing Stress at Bedtime
Maintaining a regular nighttime routine and practicing sleep hygiene habits can lead to a good night’s sleep. Follow these tips to relax before bedtime:
Develop a bedtime routine. Ritual can lead to better sleep. Try doing the same thing at bedtime every night. This might involve taking a bath, drinking hot tea, or listening to relaxing music. You can train your body to associate bedtime rituals with sleep onset.
Lower the temperature of your bedroom. A nighttime room temperature of 60 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit is optimal for sleep. A lower room temperature leads to a lower body temperature, which signals to your brain that it’s time to sleep.
Play relaxing sounds. Try calming your nervous system by playing tranquil sounds such as soft music or nature sounds in the leadup to bedtime, and use white noise to block outside sounds that might disturb your sleep.
Try aromatherapy. Aromatherapy, the use of aromatic plant extracts and essential oils to promote wellbeing, can lead to feelings of relaxation, which in turn can lead to drowsiness and sleep.
Practice mindful relaxation techniques. A bedtime ritual of deep breathing exercises and slow exhales can promote progressive muscle relaxation. Add to these breathing techniques by visualizing a relaxing scene. Mindfulness and visualization can eliminate tension while allowing the body to drift from wakefulness into unconsciousness.
Consider natural sleep aids. Natural sleep aids such as melatonin are available as an over-the-counter medication in most drug stores. Taking melatonin can hasten the onset of sleep without interfering with the natural processes of REM sleep and non-REM sleep.
Invest in your sleep environment. Create a dark, cool, comfortable space for yourself. You might want to invest in quality sheets, cooling pillows, or even blackout curtains.

i was gonna make a big post abt narcolepsy / excessive daytime sleepiness being brought up so frequently w people around me when i've been dealing with it for nearly a decade w it getting noticeably worse over time and how kind of frustrating it is to hear someone who has just started experiencing it getting instant medical help with stimulants but yknow what? im just fucking complaining. im jealous that the medical system is trying to help this person when it hasnt helped me. i should be happy that people are getting the attention they need for this. it is a plague of the brain to view everything as competing in the Suffering Olympics. we are both going through hard shit. and im happy you are being taken seriously when i never have been. i hope things get better. it would be reassuring to know that it can be treated from someone first-hand.

I kind of want to go back up to 15mg of abilify (the dose I was put on abt eight years ago at the psych hospital) but I'm worried that if I don't lower or get rid of it and/or my wellbutrin (which I may be fine without) before my appt in August then my sleep Dr won't medicate me my daytime sleepiness. but also I've been having problems with insomnia recently that I don't understand so I have no idea what he's gonna say about that. if he tells me to get more exercise again I will lose my shit bc I have been trying.
idk bc I AM feeling a lot better mentally than I have for the past few weeks so maybe it was social/circumstantial stuff that was making me Crazy like I was in college. have not been feeling better physically, tho, bc there were several nights in a row I just could not sleep last week. and also idk if a dose that's 5mg lower would have that much of an impact? but my mental health did get a lot worse around the same time I lowered my abilify dosage.

No idea what that is , but ima just wait and get surprised if you do add that to your fic to see what it is lmao
will do!
to answer your question medically: it’s a chronic sleep disorder involving daytime sleepiness, hallucinations, sleep paralysis, cataplexy, sleep attacks, fragmented sleep and so on and so forth
to provide a media reference: have you seen/read the fight club? while, yes, it’s not exactly narcolepsy that palahniuk’s character has, his symptoms are overlapping with it. idk how accurate that depiction was (feel free to tear me to shreds, i appreciate it since i’m still doing my research), but it’s the first example i could think of at the top of my head, just to give you a general idea of a severe sleeping disorder
