Dont understand or like the whole: "dont talk to me if you like the same character as me. Nobody gets them like I do, i'm the best/only/#1 fan!" crap I see in fandom spaces these days. People who are so possessive over the characters they like and can't bear other people loving the same thing.

Like, don't get me wrong, I used to be like this, (and thanks to that, I still struggle with awful fandom jealousy issues to this day💔) but it was not fun keeping all my thoughts to myself or ignoring/hating genuinely cool people because of my weird possessiveness over characters. I'd see everyone else having so much fun and be pissed off, because how dare they like the same thing as me..... like what???? How is that any fun???

It used to be so bad...couldn't read other people's fanfics for the longest time, I resented innocent people just because they liked the same things as me, I'd get so upset seeing people with more merch than me, would get physically sick (im talking dizzy, heart racing, stomach hurting and everything) with jealousy at the most little things etc etc...For me, it was less that I saw myself as the #1 fan, and more I felt too deeply insecure in myself to even be allowed to like what I liked :(

Then I grew TF up, and also realized how fun it was yapping with other fans and sharing the love for the same things. Now it's like, if you don't talk to me about this character I will EXPLODE!!!! I'm having so much fun these days. There's so much amazing fan content out there and so many passionate people I wanna be friends with. I love my fandom friends dearly too, and I adore seeing people love the things I love...I don't understand why I isolated myself like that for so long.

i still struggle with some of those things but it's definitely to a lesser extent! and im way happier than those old days...So it makes me sad when I see that: "I hate when people like the same thing as me!" / "only I get this character" mentality being pushed and joked about, because I'm trying SO hard to get away from it.... Fandom isn't a competition, it's a community. I just think some of ya'll would be a bit happier and actually enjoy fandom if you got over yourself /nbh

rafe loves your voice. not just the sound of it, but the way you use it. constantly. like you don’t even think before letting the words spill out, like the world around you is just lucky enough to hear whatever is on your mind at any given moment.

sometimes it’s about your day, sometimes it’s about a random fact you read last night at two a.m., sometimes it’s completely pointless—like whether ducks know they’re ducks—but rafe never tells you to shut up. he just listens. sometimes he hums, sometimes he asks questions, sometimes he just watches you talk with that soft little smirk, like he could listen to you forever.

which is why it’s so weird when you stop.

it happens at a party. you’re talking—rambling—about a new tv show you just started watching, waving your hands around while rafe keeps his arm wrapped around your waist, nodding along, totally content.

but then, you catch it. a look.

two girls, standing by the kitchen, eyes flicking over to you. one of them whispers something to the other, and then—a laugh.

not with you. at you.

rafe doesn’t notice. he’s still looking at you. but something about their reaction, about knowing they think you’re annoying, makes your stomach clench.

so you stop talking.

just like that.

rafe doesn’t say anything at first, just gives you a look when you go quiet mid-sentence. but you just shake your head, wave it off, smile even though it feels wrong.

but as the night goes on, he notices more.

he notices the way you stop yourself every time you start rambling. the way you cut your own sentences short. the way you hesitate before saying something, like you’re thinking about whether or not it’s worth saying at all.

it makes something burn in his chest.

when you get back to his place, he doesn’t let you brush it off.

"what’s wrong with you?" he asks, shutting the door behind him, pulling his hat off.

you blink up at him. "what?"

"you’ve been weird all night."

"i’m fine, rafe—"

"bullshit."

your lips press together. you glance away.

he exhales sharply, stepping closer. softer, now.

"baby," he murmurs, brushing a thumb over your cheek. "tell me."

you hesitate. but then, the words slip out before you can stop them.

"some girls at the party were laughing at me."

rafe’s entire demeanor shifts. his jaw tenses, his grip on your waist tightens, his eyes darken.

"who."

"it doesn’t matter." you shake your head, wrapping your arms around yourself. "they just… they thought i was annoying."

rafe actually laughs, but it’s not amused. it’s incredulous.

"are you fucking serious?"

"rafe—"

"no, because that’s the dumbest fucking thing i’ve ever heard."

you don’t say anything. you just look at him, and his face softens, because he realizes—it got to you.

so he tugs you forward, presses you against him, one hand on the back of your head, the other gripping your hip.

"baby," he murmurs, voice so low, so sure, right against your temple. "i love when you talk."

your fingers tighten in his hoodie.

"i could listen to you all day."

your throat tightens.

"fuck those girls, okay?" he pulls back just enough to look at you, blue eyes steady, serious. "don’t ever let some stuck-up bitches make you feel like you need to be less."

and when he kisses you, slow and certain, you believe him.

ok so i used to have HORRIBLE social anxiety and i think that the contrast between me with social anxiety and me now is INSANE. in a good way ofc. so im not going to talk about how i overcame social anxiety, instead im going to talk about how i created a social life ✨

MAKING FRIENDS ;

the science of making friends is simple and im about to explain it. so go to where there are ppl that u can relate to/want to relate to. example being school, clubs, etc.

next, observe who u want to befriend and make sure to start with a compliment. starting off by introducing urself just makes for an awkward conversation but starting with a compliment puts u and the other party at ease.

something thats rly important is ur CHARISMA and ur magnetic energy so be CHARMING ✨ if u find that the other party is not reciprocating its either they're uncomfy, uninterested, or just a weirdo. and in all cases, you should stop.

MAKING FRIENDS THRU FRIENDS ;

make friends with your friends friends -> make friends with their friends -> and so on and so forth. this is how you network and create a friendly status with lots of people.

if ur in a school setting like i am, make friends with people in ur own grade or in a higher up grade, i dont usually make friends with ppl in lower grades but ofc there are always exceptions.

making friends through friends is how u get invited to parties, have more opportunities be available to you, and ofc network for more connections. guys connections are literally EVERYTHING.

MAKE TIME FOR UR FRIENDS ;

make sure to learn who u call friends. when is their birthday? do they have specific preferences? what kind of music do they listen to? knowing ur friends makes them feel special and thats how u learn to be a good friend. i can make a whole POST about being a good friend cuz i've learned and grown so much with that.

THE POWER OF A COMPLIMENT ;

make it ur mission to give a compliment everyday cuz first off, being nice is HOT so pls be nice and second of all, if ur trying to talk to someone and u start with a compliment i promise that it'll go so much better.

if ur thinking "thats so awkward how will i do that" then the category dont be shy is one that u gotta read cuz girl 💀. if u need an example i'll provide one from my own experience so u can see the power of a compliment.

there was this girl in my spanish class and i always thought that she was so pretty and she seemed so nice. one day we bump into each other in the bathroom and i compliment her hair and makeup, she responds well. we continue to have friendly interactions throughout the rest of the school year and now we are good friends on and off campus.

DONT BE SHY ;

when u make friends please please PLEASE work on ur confidence first. you need to be SURE of yourself. if not, when ur being friendly it could come off as desperation and ppl will humiliate, make fun of and take advantage of u. and thats NOT hot.

be CONFIDENT, you literally have nothing to lose. when u shed ur shyness (thru things like exposure therapy etc) a whole new world is opened up for u bcuz sometimes the only thing holding u back is urself and ur limiting beliefs about urself.

MAKE UR PERSONALITY SHINE ;

make sure that know ur own personality and from knowing that u can find ways in which u can make it shine. no matter what ur personality is though, something that i cannot stress enough is BE NICE.

be friendly and amicable with everyone and stay out of drama and if drama comes to you then stay unbothered 😭. dont try and uproot ur own personality to copy someone else's.

ANYWAYS! pls dont take this as me arguing in a mean way or anything, i love Sonic a lot!!! and i like talking about it and i think you bring up a lot of interesting points!!!! so im gonna go over it all in maybe a not super cohesive way???

i wanna start by acknowledging what you said at the start, "the wording of the second bolded point echoes IDW Sonic's wording of his principles in IDW #2 that Amy swoons over" and clarifying that i was referencing It Doesn't Matter from sa1 and sa2,,, (the full lyric is "Don't ask me why; I don't need a reason / I got my way, my own way!), and the reason why i alluded to it is because i was trying to make that connection that Sonic still has the same basic principals that he did during the adventure era, but i guess i wasnt clear enough oops ^^; i honestly completely forgot that theres a reference to that lyric in idw #2 but,, uh, happy accident i guess?

ok now onto my actual thoughts

i actually wanna agree with you on that first part, cuz as i think about it its something that makes a lot of sense and i havent really been able to fully wrap my head around it -- Sonic being reactive to whats in front of him is exactly how he is!!! idk how i didnt realize that before lol

as to what you said to my first point, i think that theres a level of dissonance between the games and comics with the threats theyre dealing with, and it kinda prevents me from explaining myself with examples. this MIGHT be a reach!!!! im sorry if it is BUT im gonna compare satbk and frontiers for a sec, since we're talking about satbk a lot here (as we should. its such a good game)

(and im not sure if youre lumping in Sonic in IDW with Sonic in Frontiers? a lot of people do but. idk maybe you dont lol. for the purposes of my point i will)

i think that there are parallels to be drawn between how Sonic treats Merlina and Sage, vs how he treats King Arthur and The End. he has a lot of patience for Merlina and Sage as he realizes theres a lot more to them besides just wanting to kill him, but he'll still take what they throw at him like he takes anything else. then you compare that to Arthur and The End, and Sonic is like. ready to destroy those guys. and i think that, while Sonic is first and foremost just living in the moment and reacting to what people throw at him, i also think that theres a huge difference between when Sonic is fighting a person and when Sonic is fighting a powerful entity. granted, he didnt know that King Arthur was an illusion, but he did know he was an immortal tyrant associated with hell. i mean. the underworld

i would love to use an example from the comics showing how he does treat similar scaled threats the same way but i. cant! because he doesnt face threats like that in IDW! hes dealing with things like "the dragon is back" and "that girl has psychological issues". the only thing that comes close to the world-ending threat that we see in the games is the metal virus, and it was both a lot more complicated than typical "defeat the bad guy, save the world" that we see in the games. now, that does NOT mean i dont think the games have complex stories but if i delved into every situation Sonic has been put in then we would be here for so long. and i dont wanna do that. so yeag.

basically to sum up my points above, im saying that the reason IDW Sonic has been pretty lax with his enemies, and even tries to help some of them, is because theyre not really the same level of threats as most of the villains he faces in the games. he can deal with them fine without ending them outright, so he doesnt really have an issue with letting them live. hes just kind of easy-going and chill like that. at least thats how i see it, maybe im missing something?

also, to your point that "Sonic doesnt fight for freedom, he fights against oppression" i just. do not agree lol. i mean, hes been associated with the Freedom Fighters since 1993, but theres also some more direct reference to it in reference to specifically Sonic

the Sonic Adventure Stylebook, page 9 (translated) - "He loves freedom and hates crookedness. He is impulsive and short-tempered, but also has a kindness that can't be ignored when someone is in trouble."

Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia, page 13 - "Sonic is usually laid back and cool, but he's driven to fight injustice - not in the name of the law, but for the ideal of freedom."

and then i WAS going to add more examples, but the wayback machine is down right now so. can i just say source: trust me? sorry i wish i could add more examples :( i dont wanna dwell on this "for freedom or against oppression" point too much though, cuz i honestly think its just kinda arguing semantics. as well as the fact that i feel like both things are true, i just kinda didnt phrase it well in my original post

um. and now i kinda wanna go completely off the rails so please be nice to me but im gonna say something that may be controversial,,, i am of the mind that, because IDW is canon material, then it shouldnt be seen as a different character than how Sonic was written in some earlier games, even if it seems like it. because its just as much as source material as anything else! i really just think that most "out of character" things are more akin to different facets of a character. i think that writing off all of Sonic in IDW because some things he does contradicts what he does in the games is just kinda. idk. i dont like how quick people are to do that. i mean like, i got into Sonic because of IDW, and then i went and played the games and it never really felt any different to me -- just Sonic responding different to different situations. maybe i need to do another read through of IDW! but i really dont think that writing off an entire canon comic series is a good thing to do when looking at the facets of a character's personality. that could just be me

A LONG ASS RANT ABOUT VLD

consider me officially triggered. this is my way to let things off my chest.

I’ve been rewatching voltron and honestly I’m slowly getting back into the fandom. but like, the way the fandom babys lance and demonize allura on tiktok is reminding me why I stopped interacting with it all together.

do not get me wrong. lance will always be special to me, but let’s be fucking fr, character wise he is the worst one among all of them. like, besides fanon and post canon headcanons I got nothing nice to say about him. the writers did him so dirty and I get that, but even if they gave him an interesting development, he’ll remain the guy who is bitter and jealous of EVERYBODY. not just keith. when pidge and hunk geek out the way that they do (hella cute btw) he is THE FIRST ONE TO CALL THEM BORING AND MAKE FUN OF THEM TO SHUT THEM UP. he makes fun of shiro after his death arc and is weird around rumelle..it’s..yeah he definitely is not the best character in vld.

even though I think that calling him stupid for 8 fucking seasons is majorly unproductive and a tired thing to do on the writers part. believe me I’m not into it either.

“The paladins make fun of him constantly” BUT ALSO HES BEEN MEAN SINCE EPISODE ONE. no wonder. and I get that him not being book smart and making fun of ppl who are is supposed to be funny to the viewers but it just comes off cringy and hateful and not funny at all and hella insecure. and I wish they gave him skills to tip that scale for me even a little bit but no. nothing. canon lance is on the very bottom of the list for me because of those flaws.

CUZ THERE IS NO WAY you watch the show with a mature mind and still believe allura is the problem.

AND STOP SAYING YOU DONT UNDERSTAND ALLURA HATE. YOU DO. WE KNOW EXACTLY WHY THEY HATE HER BUT IT MAKES US UNCOMFORTABLE TALKING ABOUT IT.

the number one excuse I keep reading from those infants is that they hate her because she treated keith wrongly after finding out that he’s galra and then “dated” lotor immediately after. which NOT ONLY IS NOT TRUE BUT ITS SIMPLIFYING AND UNDERMINING HER SITUATION.

keith’s main thing is his struggle with his identity at that point of the story (before marmora) even HE was stressed putting the puzzle pieces together because he knows how bad all the galra are. (even when he first met *that one marmmoran who helped shiro escape* he didn’t trust him at all given all the information they had)

when the paladins finally know about keith being a galra IMMEDIATELY we see allura putting distance between her and keith. LMAO she hated his ass and he was sad about it. one thing lead to another and now keith insists against all risks on going on a solo mission to infiltrate a galra ship and blah blah..

allura here is reminded of keith’s character and who he truly is, enough to finally push her /JUSTIFIABLE/ hatred aside. before he leaves they have a one on one conversation in which allura RECOGNIZES HER PREJUDICE AND APOLOGIZES and they hug. 10/10 plot line truly one of the few well handled relationships and stories in the whole show.. and yet ppl still use it as an excuse to hate allura. truly a tiny brain thing.

s3 the paladins now work with the marmmora and allura have come to turms that not all galra are bad. INSERT LOTOR. a deeply complex character with heinous acts and somewhat well intentions. lotor deserves his own analysis preferably by someone qualified to analyze and not at all by me bc this is simply an observation and commentary.

allura NEVER trusted lotor, she only started to after he killed zarkon in season 5. that opened a window for him to manipulate her and the rest of the paladins to trust him. HE FOOLED THEM ALL.

now ppl say that they dated but THE EPISODE THEY FIRST KISS IS LITERALLY THE SAME EPISODE SHE YEETS HIM ACROSS THE ROOM. LIKE NOT EVEN MOMENTS AFTER. so hating allura purely because she had an interesting profound story with lotor is BOGUS.

(even though I am a lotora / lotor redemption truther through and through) I’m not being bias when I tell you the build up they had made perfect sense.

so yeah after all of the shit she goes through (and it’s A LOT I didn’t even mention throughout ALL SEASONS) the writers fucking kill her to save humanity and the fandom turns on her so quickly and easy. and that doesn’t sit right with me.

anyway atsushi who keeps his eyes closed around ppl he feels safe with - so mostly the agency

kunikida sees him first and assumes he's napping and 'wakes him up' and atsushi, who doesn't realize yet why he's doing it is a little embarrassed

kunikida notices it again when theyre walking to a case, atsushi squished in between him and dazai, eyes closed, and he knows that he's not napping but he also doesn't get it

dazai realizes whats up but thinks it only happens cuz of kunikida becuz surely not him

but then one day he's telling atsushi about some prank he's pulling on kunikida and atsushi is nodding along, eyes shut and he's like oh

kyouka misses all the times it happens around her just becuz its not strange to see someone lying on the couch at their home, eyes closed, so how is she supposed to know that he's only doing it becuz he feels safe ???

ranpo knows whats going on and is very pleased when atsushi sits next to him on the train to their mission with his eyes closed - until they accidentally missed their stop becuz ranpo didn't know where they were going

when it happens to ranpo, everyone starts picking up that somethings going on

dazai and ranpo know for sure - and through ranpo yosano knows too - and everyone knows atsushi closes his eyes around them for some reason but they arent really sure why

atsushi doesn't close his eyes around yosano - not until theyre hanging out and yosano takes her long white coat off and leaves it behind becuz she doesn't need it and in minutes atsushi is at complete ease around her

junichiro keeps his hand on atsushi's arm when theyre walking or in public so that if atsushi's eyes are closed he doesn't bump into anything or anyone

kenji initially thinks that atsushi is trying to mimic ranpo and yeah fair enough but then when he realizes he closes his eyes around atsushi too which does cause them to bump into each other but also its sweet so

it takes atsushi the longest to do so around fukuzawa - not becuz he has anything against the man - but becuz he's a figure w/ authority over atsushi and atsushi doesn't have the best experience. where he knows yosano well enough and only her long white coat makes him hesitate, and for all of kunikida's scolding - his hands are kind when they ruffle atsushi hair and his eyes are filled with concern as he makes sure atsushi is eating - but atsushi rarely sees the president in comparison

the first time he's in his presence with his eyes closed fukuzawa is touched

anyway

when everyone in the agency finds out what it means its like:

yosano, dazai, ranpo - already knew

kenji - figured it out

kyouka - reevaluating every time atsushi has ever closed his eyes

kunikida - bright red, spluttering remembering how often atsushi does it in his presence

junichiro - pleased and vowing to close his eyes too

haruno and naomi - "atsushi are you actually a cat who turns into a human"

anyway who else

lucy thinks he's not listening to her when he does it and when he tells her she gets flustered calls him an idiot and then gives him a present to show her own appreciation of him and then pretends to not know what he's talking about

i dont know how to describe akutagawa's reaction to his boyfriend, who he had an antagonistic and violent relationship with in the beginning, thinking that akutagawa - violent, kills without thought, weapon more than human - is safe

akutagawa's whos ability has only been a monster is able to use it in front of atsushi w/o atsushi ever thinking its unsafe

all that trust and love atsushi has carefully put out for akutagawa - yeah i cant describe the emotions akutagawa would feel to be this loved, this trusted
