one of my fav parts of s5 is Wukong calling Tang "Jangles". obviously itd probably be uncomfortable to refer to someone with his old masters name (even if its pronounced differently), but also it just sorta solidifies how Wukong is more integrated into the main characters now. in s1 he was more of a mentor side character than a main character (he didnt even help in the final battle!), in s2 he was just doing stuff in the background, in s3, while he was more integrated he still mostly kept to himself outside of MK and was keeping a lot of secrets. s4 he was more familiar with the main cast, but you dont really get to see it until the finale due to the fact he was trapped in the torment nexus. BUT LETS GO S5 BABY Wukong isnt keeping any secrets!! hes not being a weird loner (well, not as much as usual)!!! hes talking with everyone and they all consider him their friend!!!! LETS GOOOO BABY!!!! anyways yeah, Jangles. i think its a fun and silly nickname

i think the main reason why i wasnt the biggest fan of lmk s5's writing (even though i still really enjoyed the season!) is cuz like , when Nuwa was going off about how without the Guardians to protect the stones, the cycle wouldnt be safe etc etc, but like!!! the Guardians didnt do shit!!!! so like, i didnt BELIEVE her yk. and i know thats like half the point, but idk i feel like a little more focus on the Guardians wouldve gone a long way???? like idk all the mythology surrounding them (or if there is any-- are they lmk originals??? IDK i should look into that. anyways!), but im sure there couldve been more done to make them feel important. one of the guardians was THE JADE EMPEROR like???? cmon. cmonnnn gimme something to chew on, make me feel bad that the Guardians are gone now

(unserious joke post ahead) I'm gatekeeping guilt narratives from people who haven't committed atrocities. too many times have I encountered a story with a very promising guilt-ridden character and then we learn what they did and it was something no reasonable person could think was bad and the character just has low self worth about it or it was socially unacceptable in the setting. give me some Nuance to chew on. give me someone struggling to find the stable ground between accountability and self destruction. look me in the eye and tell me just how far your faith in the human power to grow extends. maybe shoot a man in reno just to watch him die then feel really fucked up about it and then your fiction will be better.
