Hi! I'm the Howl's Moving Castle anon and this is my submission for the Melanin Beam Challenge (also happy birthday in advance since is this an early submission!)

(also for some reason Tumblr isn't letting me send you the actual links to the hero forge figures, which kinda sucks bc I think the full view kind of shows the designs better, but I'll try and get the main angles with screenshots and also if you want I can make a post with the links or something)

Howl

I honestly wanted to give him longer hair, I thought HF had that as an option but I guess not? Their options were honestly a little more limited than I had thought so hopefully they'll add more in the future and I can update the design, but I think the idea still kind of carries over. Also I'd add more beads and accessories, maybe some for magic reasons but some just because it's his style to have. I decided to go with a slightly modified version of the diamond patterned coat Howl has early on in the movie since it kind of just added more color & flair than the white shirt/black pants he wears for most of the rest of it.

Sophie:

Her design technically probably ultimately changed the least, but was weirdly hard to settle on I think because her design is, in some ways, a lot simpler in the movie than a lot of the other characters' so there was less to draw from without it just feeling like a lackluster colorswap type deal (that's why I added the spiral patterns to her dress and gave her a basket to carry like she's in the scene where she goes to the market). I'm mostly happy with the hairstyle, it seems like something she would do, but I would, if I'm ever able to, like to give her braids with more design/style/meaning in them.

Calcifer:

He was probably the easiest to do since 1 he was the one I had ideas for first, and 2 there was kind of more room to be creative since he didn't have a preexisting (human) design. I will probably go back at some point and fine-tune it (I just know I'm going to have a busy week and don't want to miss the deadline), but I wanted the vitiligo to invoke the idea of the flames alongside the orange, gold, and red hues of his clothes, hair, and eyes. Probably obvious to mention, but the wheelchair is sort of a reference to the fireplace with simultaneous mobility and immobility. I thought about giving him a cane as a reference to the logs, but tbh the frying pan and egg just seemed funnier

ABOVE AND BEYOND!!!!

You know, when you sent those asks I couldn't really picture what it was you planned on doing, so this is such a delight!!! You went OFF with the Calcifer design!! The idea to dye the tips of the curls?!? Inspired! The wheelchair is baller, too! Old Sophie 🥹 her hair 🥹🥹🥹 really I'm so impressed with the hair work in general on all three of these pieces!! You might have to start selling your stuff for real; these can be made physical??

since it's @creatingblackcharacters' birthday I decided to join the Melanin beam challenge and edit one of my favourite characters of all time (and my specifically favourite two sprites of hers), Franziska Von Karma, to be Blasian :)

ID: Two sprite edits of Franziska Von Karma. Her skin is edited warm brown colour, she has a more visible and wider nose along with two toned lips. Her hair is a darker shade of blue and now in natural curls that she has styled in a side part that points out on one side. Her clothes are also slightly changed, with her vest darker grey, the golden accents more gold rather than yellow and her earrings matching the gold. The first sprite is her smiling mischievously at the viewer with a hand on her hip, whereas the second sprite is her crying while clasping her hands together. /end ID

I'm participating in the @creatingblackcharacters melanin beam challenge today! Since I've been playing so much Mario Kart lately, I picked Princes Peach for my piece, with a little bit of magical girl flair ✨️
