Jon Sundell began performing and recording folk music, mostly for adults, in the 1960's, in his high school and college years, in New York, Michigan and western Europe. He began working with children in 1971, when he served as a camp music director, then, after moving south to east Tennessee, performed in a 4-room country schoolhouse. From that start till 1984 Jon's school programs - in the southeast, mid-west, and New England - focused on folklore, presented through songs, tales and singing games, and demonstrating various stringed instruments. During that early period Jon earned a MS in Education with an emphasis on Appalachian Studies, which enabled him to enrich his school programs.

After completing a Master of Library Science degree in 1984, Jon began working as a public library children's specialist in Forsyth County, North Carolina, incorporating many multicultural themes into his preschool and school- aged storytimes. As Jon became head of Children's Outreach, then Hispanic Services in the 1990's, he learned Spanish and started developing bilingual and Spanish language programs. He used them not only locally, but on many trips to Mexico, Central and South America, mostly during vacations.

In 2006, Jon moved from the public library to public schools, where his programs for elementary grades incorporated nearly all the other themes you see in his offerings. He developed a good knowledge of the school curriculum and often prepared programs in coordination with classroom teachers, particularly in Social Studies and Language Arts.

When Jon retired from librarianship in 2016, he formed the company, "Perfect Storm Edu-tainment," utlilizing his combined experiences as a performer, teacher, and librarian to present programs that support and enhance school curriculum and motivate children to read. In this endeavor, he is utilizing a lot of material that he developed in his library work, but often scaled up for larger audiences.

no but imagine percy who inherited his mom's beachwave brown, shoulder length hair as a kid. and all of his classmates and teachers thinking he's a girl and referring to him as such. and he doesn't correct them because he thinks it means they find him pretty. and he likes feeling pretty like his mom. then gabe makes him cut his hair in the second grade. and finds he likes the short hair and feeling handsome too. but he also really misses feeling pretty sometimes. and it isn't until after gabe mysteriously dissapears that he grows it out again and reconciles switching between both.

i gave it a real try with this tutoring client and we have definitely made some grudging progress but in my heart of hearts i must admit that i find it deeply unpleasant to work with him and i hate the way he talks to me like i'm his servant and should therefore be waiting breathlessly by my inbox 24/7 so I can respond promptly to his many demands. I cannot wait to be done working with him!! I just need to put my head down and power through all of his drafts because the more work I put in now the closer we are to never having to speak again.

Remembering my first time playing oot as a kid and hearing about the heroes of legend, those who had used the master sword before. And because I wasn't part of the larger community, no internet etc, I didn't know I was supposed to think of the other zelda games.

My theory was that every zelda game took place simultaneously across an infinite sea of parallel worlds, and each link could reach out and witness the other adventures alongside their own. I thought of them as different facets of the same soul, which turned out to be true enough, I suppose XD.

But I also thought the master sword was too simple a name and design, too overarching to not, similarly, be a culmination of different aspects, referencing different swords from real world myth and legend.

I remember I believed past heroes referred to people like King Authur, like Odin, like Hercules and Theseus and Achillies, like legendary samurai and kings under hills and travelling swordsmen and ladies lost to time.

And now, this small child, this little backwater kid my age was going to take up that mantle, join the ranks of heroes unsung, perform great feats in forgotten temples and save the suffering kingdom, here and gone, to slip back to home and safety upon journey's end, the kid with a hero's story and a precious, gleeful secret. That was how a lot of stories go, when they're targeted at little kids. Save the fairy kingdom from the bad pixie and run back to your parents before they wonder too long where you've been.

The direction Nintendo ended up going with making a canon timeline and destroying the mystery of how it all began (tho SS is amazing) takes a lot of the fable, the secrecy, the hushed gleam in the eye of it. But I still love it. For older players, it's another turn of the cycle, the new and old mixing into something unrecognisable and yet so familiar.

For new players, for children, the creator truly captured that feeling of stepping into another world behind your own, shifting ivy aside with your dirt scuffed hand, the feeling of wonder welling up inside as you step into the sunbeams of a brand new horizon where everything they told you about magic is true. The feeling of becoming something greater than the sum of your parts, of hearing a thousand silent voices at your back, of meeting equal with the legend, of being good for the sake of it and being rewarded with making a thousand memories, a thousand experiences beyond your wildest dreams.

Of, at the end of it all, being rewarded with the privacy and peace you really wanted, not being forced to perform nice for rude adults and go on stage to accept your little trophies. Something to cradle in your heart and smile secretive smiles, to be true to yourself, to always have that little something extra, something adults will never notice but you know. You know, and you will never breathe a word of that beautiful, magical world, because it's just. For. You.

I suppose that's always why I've liked the epilogue of a zelda game, the Links all choosing to close the loop, to return the master sword and return to their peaceful lives. To fulfil your purpose. To become everything they said you'd be and more. To go home, and your enemies don't follow.

The adults doubt your magic, but you don't. Not anymore.

hiii i love ur blog and i was wondering if i could have some advice. so essentially i am trying to improve my personality to become more likable. sometimes i find myself making rude quips in a way to be funny and i feel like it rly makes the other person feel like shit and i want advice to be nicer in general. i just make everyone feel so bad whenever im trying to make a joke. like im not even mad i just wanna joke but i know i need to stop so i wanna know how. also, whenever im jealous i feel like i minimize their achievements and try to bring myself up out of scaredness that people may view me as inferior. how do i stop putting other ppl down? tysmmm

Learn and practice displaying empathy. Consider the emotions the other person is experiencing based on what they're going through, their words, display of current mood/emotions, and body language. Consider how you would want to be supported and heard if you were going through these same experiences and emotions then respond like the person you would want to talk to you when dealing with a similar situation/feeling

Consider why you feel the need to put others down and make jokes at their expense. Are you looking to feel superior, worthy, heard, and/or validated? Accept and independently work on your own inner wounds, self-criticisms, and self-esteem issues. Don't make them other people's problems. Work through this negative self-talk with a therapist if you can. Understand that people see right through these behaviors and see that you're not comfortable with yourself. Being kind and calm towards others radiates self-assurance & confidence

Replace your scarcity mindset with an abundance mindset. Understand that one person's success does not diminish or remove the possibility of a win or potential accomplishment from another's achievement. There are infinite opportunities to go around that best serve individuals on their own unique journeys. Celebrating others' achievements can only help you become a more positive person encourage you to feel more motivated to work hard to attract accomplishments into your own life
