A special project for @peppinos-pantry for their Musical Month. This project was started back in January when I initially joined the team. This was such a fun project that Doughpini assigned to me. I wanted to collect a whole bunch of stuff for the project itself for you guys to check out.

Why is Tumblr, the IDES OF MARCH site, the one place we CELBRATE BRUTUS STAB STAB STABING HIS FRIEND, is not talking about the TikTok woman who is planning a Julius César musical adapting the Shakespeare play with a tiny bit of historical realism (is not historical just more than Shakespeare). The songs are sooo good and so clever. Someone give her the Epic treatment asap because she does want to actually cast people and make this a full concept album and we need it.

why have i never seen any batman fics based off epic the musical songs??? like omg i was just listening to the playlist and i was thinking, wtf, why is ruthlessness so jason todd coded??

'we'll be fine' is so tim to literally everyone post jasons death and pre his revival reveal.

really i just want to see a fic series of epic the musical but with batfam members instead but like relate each fic to a song in epic. really, you could just make odysseus jason and then tim can be telemachus. and if you want a romance you can make penelope artemis or rose or roy or bring back rena (jason todd's first girlfriend pre-death), idc. or you can just not include romance and twist the lyrics to be more familial, and make penelope bruce or alfred or literally anyone jason has a familial bond with.

make polities roy, make eurdycice talia or just someone who would try to overrule jason if he was being too reckless. it literally does not matter to me.

so overall i'd love to see a series of fics where jason (i'll also accept damian or tim but i don't know about dick) is basically in odysseus situation and is trying to get back home to gotham OR a series of fics where songs from epic the musical apply to the batfam.

i hope this rant made sense, please PLEASE let me know if a fic like this is in the process of being made or is already made. i'm craving it.

did you watch epic materialize as a project, and hope to experience it again someday? were you late to the party, and wished that you could've been there since the beginning?

musician grace yurchuk on tiktok (also found on instagram and youtube) is in the process of making a julius caesar musical!!!! it's based on the shakespeare play, but supplemented with historical facts. a concept album is in development, after which she plans to get the musical onto the stage!

although it's only halfway written, there is already some fanart and animatics out there, and they're excellent!

This might be on the outer edges of the 'rock' part of a rock opera, but I need people to listen to Janelle Monáe's Metropolis series of concept EPs and eventually her debut album The ArchAndroid, some with dystopian themes of being a robot that falls out of line, in love and starts thinking for itself, and others about being a saviour alien, that was awesome.

Also, Canadian rock band Fucked Up had a great rock opera called David Comes To Life in 2011 that was great.

(If not 'rock', I don't know what else to call Fucked Up lol, they started out as definitely hardcore punks, but they've done so much other interesting work since then that can't really be called punk)

Also obligatory reminder that 'rock opera' =/= 'rock musical'

(That said, I found Quadrophenia on vinyl at a uni sale for $5, which was kinda nice)

Bro my surprise when I listened to Warriors for the first time and a full-blown METAL SONG started playing was off the charts. Kim Dracula’s vocals as Luther are INSANE. They perfectly portrayed the lunatic-high-on-victory vibe Luther has. I also love Cropsy being his little backup.

Types of concept albums:

death (that's it. the concept is death.)

the most complicated and convoluted plotline about life and love and death and war and science and religion and folk mythology and time and politics and existentialism and hope and mental illness and personal responsibility and a dictatorial regime and ai and art and philosophy and the human soul and the apocalypse and the lyrics are all metaphorical and vague and there's like so much expanded lore that can only be found in the notes of a limited edition release in Slovakia from 10 years ago and scattered across 5 different interviews from the digital branch of a french music magazine and try as you might you'll never understand it at all but there's some guy on a niche music review forum that pieced it all together in 2012
