Alicent Hightower, Little Miss Greensleeves

At the wedding of Rhaenyra and Laenor Valeryon Alicent makes a dramatic entrance in a brilliant green gown. A declaration for House Hightower instead of the reds and blacks she used to wear for her husband's House. I know some people love this show-dress but I can't get behind it. It looks too flimsy to be a Queen's show-stopping ensemble. It needed length, or folds of fabric... even just better lining in the bodice would have helped. It's honestly looked better in the cosplays I've seen.

I will give it to the show designers though, it is a hard gown to design. I completed this illustration at least 3 times before I knew for certain what it was going to look like. Hopefully the elements of Hightower fashion/anti-Targaryen fashion i've been mentioning and building to are recognizable.

We were nominated for Best Costume Design for CATS at BROADWAY WORLD! My birthday's tomorrow and it'd mean absolutely everything if you voted and spread the word. It's been a really difficult year. Can we please give a shout out to how not just words, but also Costuming gave us a little extra glimpse at how after the meeting and shy flirting at the dock, and then Bucky spending the evening at Sarah’s and meeting her kids, the next morning Bucky and Sarah are shown both wearing an almost identical shade of blue.

Costuming is intentional.

For a myriad of reasons, the show wasn’t able to include the fully fleshed out Love Story that was written for those two, but we got what they could give us with the iconic First Meet.

We didn’t see how the evening went with Bucky having dinner with the Wilson family, but we saw him waking up on the sofa the next morning, not like the first time we see him awaken in episode 2, which is after after yet another of his Winter Soldier murder nightmares. He wakes up gently, to the sound of children playing: Sarah’s boys, Cass and AJ, playing with Sam’s Shield.

(See the End Credits scene of Black Panther and tell me Malcolm Spellman didn’t do a call back to that in TFATWS, while also reminding us of Bucky telling his doctor about the last place he felt calm.)

That Sarah and Bucky are both wearing almost the same color tells us that a connection was made.

Storytelling happens in what characters are wearing as well as what they say and/or do.

And to think that David himself had input into the costumes as well. He knows what looks good on him.

David's body is very suited to women's clothes. His developed pecs. His insanely small waist. His hourglass figure. His delicate frame. His androgynous nature.

I just had a thought about the costume design for Crowley.

The vests he wears mimic a corset. There's usually talk about Aziraphale's clothing layers, but Crowley has them tightly wrapped and covered. His clothing has a lot of buttons, even though they're usually open. His figure lines often form an hourglass.

And that red snakey print shirt under a black lace vest in the 1800s? *chef's kiss*

Cheers to the Neil Gaiman-jumper easter egg inside of Dead Boy Detectives.

Costume designer Kelli Dunsmore wanted to include a subtle easter egg in the show referencing someone called Neil Gaiman. So she browsed through some of his pictures and came across this jumper that she later chose as the main piece of costume for Dagfinn, the lighthouse keeper.
