I think itā€™s fairly obvious that mafiosi would have at least some sexism going on. Itā€™s just shown differently, and it's hard to put them all in the same category because their psychology is different. For my freaks who happen to be into a little misogyny/sexism:
Call Guido old fashioned, but he thinks itā€™s wrong to be rough with a girl. It rubs him the wrong way. Yeah, of course girls can do whatever we can, heā€™s all for them working and voting and all the good stuff, but you just shouldnā€™t treat a girl like that. He tends to say ā€˜girlā€™ instead of ā€˜woman,ā€™ even when heā€™s referring to someone thatā€™s implied to be older than he is.Ā
When Guido interrogates Scolippi in the english dub, he says ā€œI should end you for killing a girl,ā€ and ā€œYou killed an innocent girl, psycho,ā€ which could just be intentionally guilt tripping Scolippi, but Guido isnā€™t the guilt type. Heā€™s an immediate physical punishment type. He hates men that harm women, no matter the degree.Ā
If he ends up having a crush on someone who is masculine, you might not notice at all (unless you pick up on his hesitation). Guidoā€™s always been fairly handsy, heā€™ll put his arm around Pannacotta (who normally shoves him off), he picks up Narancia and wonā€™t let him down until he gets his good morning cheek kiss, heā€™ll bother Giorno until he gets a little smoochie-woochie (said like that because he knows Giorno hates that sort of talk), and he sits way too close to his darling. Heā€™s microdosing physical contact until he gets the nerve to actually touch you like he does Panna and Naraā€¦ Guys can play around, too, you know. But itā€™s different with his darling! He psyches himself out most times until he can find excuses to get handsy- like, he was just hugging Panna, heā€™s not gonna leave you out. Come on, man, you know you want one.Ā
With a feminine darling, he tries to be touchy and affectionate in the friend stage too, but heā€™s a little scared. You may notice his hands trembling as he picks you up, or that when he puts his arm around your waist, his hand hovers instead of resting on you. Heā€™s strong enough to hold you up for quite a while, heā€™s just nervous. Poor guy. He gets rather panicky when he sees a girl in distress, if he ever scared you off, he doesn't even know what he'd do.
Narancia copies Bruno, but less in a ā€˜Chivalry is importantā€™ sense and more of a ā€˜Masculine men donā€™t do certain shitā€™ sense. Which is missing the point of Brunoā€™s philosophy entirely. He doesnā€™t really have any women in his life, besides from Trish and she is not a role model for him or a spokesperson for all of womankind, so his only experience with women are the old ladies that pinch his cheeks and girl mags.Ā
He probably has a harder time with a masculine darling. He isnā€™t gay ā€˜cause he thinks youā€™re pretty, or whateverā€¦ Youā€™re just, likeā€¦ pretty, he guesses. Narancia tries to justify it- youā€™re pretty feminine for a dude! You have, like, soft hands. And soft hair. Andā€¦ something else that justifies his crush. Oh! Oh! How you talk! Some people just sound feminine, you know? The words they use, and like, their tone. Like- Like Giorno! Heā€™s a feminine guy, but heā€™s still a guy! Yeah, that justifies it for sure. Never mind the fact that you are not feminine in the slightest, Narancia will find some way to throw it on you so his crush is ā€˜ok.ā€™
Leone surprisingly has nothing going on in the sexism department. Lucky him. He might speak a bit softer to a fem darling, but other than that, the experience is roughly the same.
Pannacottaā€™s distrust of women isnā€™t inherently sexist. Itā€™s not like he thinks less of them, itā€™s just that it takes a significant amount of time for him to trust one. He gets along with men at the ā€˜normal, appropriateā€™ speed, heā€™d say. Never mind the fact that heā€™s distrusting in general and having a crush on a stranger is eating him alive. Strangers are never to be trusted- you just donā€™t know what theyā€™re thinking about or what their intentions are. They could be perverse, orā€¦ just generally ill-willed. Itā€™s unnerving.Ā
Trish is allergic to going fifty-fifty. Itā€™s not that sheā€™s super into gender roles or anything, itā€™s just that, sheā€™s a girl, come on. Really? Youā€™re gonna make her split the bill with you? She could be spending that money on, like, anything else.Ā
She has these expectations of you no matter your gender, donā€™t make her pay, give her your jacket when sheā€™s cold, carry her shopping bags, get her flowers on valentineā€™s day, things like that. Itā€™s less ā€˜Iā€™m the girl in our relationshipā€™ and more ā€˜Iā€™m spoiled and wonā€™t be bending anytime soon,ā€™ but you could argue she has some internalized sexism going on. In fact I am making that argument.Ā  Trish doesnā€™t have ā€˜boyā€™ hobbies, sheā€™s vehemently opposed to doing masculine work. It isnā€™t sexist to have preferences, but it is sexist to scoff at your partner who is struggling with carrying something and go ā€œYouā€™re supposed to be stronger than that, youā€™re a guy.ā€ Poor darling. You donā€™t get out of it if youā€™re feminine, either. Sheā€™s the girl, youā€™re her not-man. Perfect! When she eventually matures, sheā€™ll help out a bit more, but itā€™s probably never equal.

Uhhh okay so this is part of a piece that I donā€™t think it works in, anymore? M proud of it though, so Iā€™m posting it here quick :3
I've hoarded your name in my mouth for months, days gone, roughly 600 words.
The two of you do leave eventually, and the lack of a third feels like a sort of defeat, but that line of thoughtā€™s between you and her photo, pulled out of your wallet and tucked carefully away into your vest. You like to think that youā€™ll get used to that, anyways, right next to, well. Managing to get out of town with Boozer was nothing short of a fuckin miracle, youā€™re not dismissing it, itā€™s just that. Were you too selfish, back at that heli? Too naive? Your last thought before shaking the topic away entirely is that maybe you werenā€™t selfish enough.
Your missing ring glowers at you. Your missing ring burns, somehow.
How dare you think you could save both of them.
You recall the rooftop, Sarahā€™s injury too severe to make getting her out and to medical care anything less than urgent, and a part of you may later mock NERO for bugging out in a world gone to shit, but thereā€™s a MISSING (-not dead, not dead. Not dead. ā€¦ right?) sign and itā€™s plastered all over you and you canā€™t scratch it off because then sheā€™d really have to be dead, and you, in the thousands of faces, thousands of brothers and sons and sisters, daughters, parents, have no proof of anything.
>[what were your other options, again?
a) you didnā€™t have any other options.
b) Sarah and Boozer, both on the helicopter and you on the rooftop, alone, in a burning city
b.1) you lose both of them that night, or the next. See point b.2
b.2) you donā€™t make it out of town. You donā€™t live to know the difference
c) you and sarah fly away and leave Boozer on the rooftop
c.1) it was hell alone getting to the roof, but getting out of town was near impossible even with him. you doubted the possibility of the two of you making it, and as you survive gunfight and fire, youre all the more certain that neither of you wouldā€™ve, on your own.
c.2) itā€™s easy for your brother to talk about riding away from town as though he hadnā€™t been limping for hours, so he soon talks instead about how you wouldā€™ve died as well
c.2.1) heā€™s been there to save your hide more times than you can count, not that you would. heā€™s your brother, after all.
c.2.2) along that note, how could you look at your life, which you could-but-do-not owe your brother, and reject it? how do you look him in the face, after years on the run from creatures and cultists and gangs, after you both have survived long enough that itā€™s stood the end of, hell, everything else; how could you ever admit to him just how keenly you wish youā€™d died with her?
d) you didnā€™t have any other choices.
d.1) you fucking coward. stop thinking about what you could have done. think about what you did.
the thought. doesnā€™t help you sleep. but youve never been one for sugarcoating, so you stay quiet, and you toss and turn. you donā€™t think about it]]]

Me: hm, I want something to put on the TV as background noise... Huh. Looks like YouTube is recommending something called The Last Unicorn. That's perfect, it's probably some old shitty animation that has aged poorly! I can watch it ironically!
Me, 2 hours later as the credits roll: *crying, cheering, buying the book, composing the songs*
Me, 2 weeks later: So I have compiled all of the quotes from the book that I think could make good tattoos, and also, HOW HAVE I NEVER LEARNED ABOUT HOW THE LAST UNICORN FUCKING SLAPS??? This gay-ass little fairytale fed my soul! Watered my crops! Transed my gender! Can't believe I heard of this story from youtube recommendations, of all places!!
#original#the last unicorn#tlu#peter s beagle#molly gru#schmendrick#schmendrick the magician#two of my favorite characters in anything right there in the center of the story! and I'm glad I saw the film first!#my reading ability has diminished due to trauma disability etc. but it seems like having a visual reference actually really helped!#no wonder i only ever want to read fan fic! turns out reading is not actually Superior to other types of Storytelling. it's just different.#to say otherwise is snobbishness I have been eminently guilty of in my life!#but like it is easier for me to consume tv and movies and that is fine actually. also that's why I'm doing a graphic novel lol#because i wanted to make something i would actually be able to read if i found it at a library. altho the audio book IS gonna be bomb#the audiobook is for visually impaired readers and anyone who wants or needs it! accessible stories for everyone! yeah!!#my gender was already transed but now I've gained an ADDITIONAL gender! which one? I'll never tell šŸ˜˜#i am so powerful i have so much fuckin gender. my wife has no gender. and she is equally as powerful.#and also she has STUDIED THE BLADE#mostly zoro's blades from One Piece#normally YouTube recommends me shit movies like idiocracy or smth this is like if every day ur cat brought you a piece of rotten food and#then one day it brings you a BEAUTIFULLY ANIMATED TALE FEATURING MY BELOVED TWINK FUCK-UP WIZARD FRIEND AND MY ALL-TIME HOMEGIRL MOLLY GRU#and also it's soft and beautiful and funny and fucking weird!! i wrote melodies to the songs in the books on my ukulele

In case you guys couldn't tell, Dick Grayson, AKA Nightwing, is my favorite DC character. Specifically because I can just write/imagine him however way I want, within the realm of (fanon) reason, and someone will agree with me/there's already a fic about it.
Want to read about a murderous character? Nightwing has once killed the Joker and (as far as I know) didn't regret it. Not to mention Renegade also exists (along with former Talon AU, secret/resolved "killer" AU, where he kills but doesn't tell anyone, and more minor ones as well) and there are several fics where he takes on that alias in order to deal with some "unfinished business" regarding his family.
Want to read about an undercover character using their looks and flirting to their benefits (and having the attention of everyone at the bar by simply existing and being hot)? I have read so many undercover Dick Grayson that wore the sluttiest outfits just to get info. Even read a few where he did it to make his siblings (mainly Jason) more comfortable since they weren't comfortable with it yet that was his forte (regardless of whether or not he liked doing that as well).
Looking for a rich (kinda spoiled, an act, but still lovable and amazing) Nepo baby that everyone thirsts over in the gala? Richie Wayne is right there and is the eldest Wayne/heir, that's bound to cause some drama at parties/Galas (esp with protective Batfam) and I love that (please give me more fics like that, I can barely find any).
Want a badass vigilante that can beat the absolute life out of criminals and defeat Batman with relative ease? Nightwing is one of the strongest members of the Batfam, if I remember correctly he even defeated Cassandra/an opponent equal to Cassandra before.
Want to read an angst filled story about a character that feels like they're being objectified all the time and just wants a break? Do I even have to say it?
Want a character study about how the annoyed/stubborn/exhausted guy from the comics turned into an "attention whore" on fics? I remember reading (and even writing) character studies where Dick is suffering from stuff such as hypersexuality and anxiety issues where he needs people to see/notice/pay attention to him as a result of his sexual trauma (the assault & other stuff he went through).
And so much more. The duality of that man, when a character has such a variety of interpretations and ways to write about them it just fills that writer/storyteller/reader in me with joy. That complex potential that I seek in characters, like being able to kill someone while also being a hero loved by the hero community, a celebrity loved by the world and a few beyond it, a spoiled rich kid when he likes to indulge himself and a victim that has suffered through so much, it's natural to give them different ways (separation anxiety, exhibitionism, aversion to touch, etc) to cope and deal with the horrible hand that was given to them. It's just something that is very rare to come across in a character, especially one so well known and loved for all of those different things rather than only one or two of them taking over the entire character and its interpretation, and I really love Nightwing for being that character for both writers and readers looking for somethings and finding all they could ask for and more in just a singular tag (ofc I know the other characters have a variety as well, Dick just has such a big variety and his "spectrum" is so big, vast and versatile, he has a piece of the fandom for everything, like a bunch of different characters smacked into one, all sharing the same name, it's why I chose him specifically and why I love reading about him the most specifically).

Read a comment bashing lwj...
This is a very long rant about why I love lan wangji's character and why I think his behavior towards Wei Wuxian pre-sunshot campaign make sense. Some events I talk about might be out of order, because I'm rambling. Spoilers for scenes from Audio drama, cdrama, and the other mdzs canons.
So I accidentally read a comment bashing lwj and it made me so mad. Mostly because I found it incredibly inaccurate in interpreting his actions and his relationship with WWX. I can understand not liking LWJ just because his personality isn't one everyone would click with, but hating on him for inaccurate assessment of his character?! It feels like an injustice. So I'm going to share why his character is so fascinating to me, and why his actions make sense.
LWJ is one of my favorite characters for a reason, and there's a reason WWX likes this guy. Was LWJ's behavior as a teen towards wwx dumb? Yes. He was a teenager, lashing out because he had all these feelings and he was scared of being like his parents and scared of the idea that the things he'd been taught about the world was wrong, and he was angry because he couldn't control anything or make it align with that worldview, and he was so full of attraction and fascination and desire that frightened him, because the world and his clan had taught him it was wrong. And it was all happening because of this beautiful, bright boy, who wouldn't obey any of the rules LWJ had been taught made someone "good", but who was somehow so good anyway (which he learns from the Waterborne Abyss incident, when WWX rescues Su She). LWJ has been thrown into a hormonal, existential chaos.
He's never learned to communicate because he's never had a single friend in his life, and he hadn't had anyone to teach him all the ways love could be good, could be healthy, could be a blessing. Only that it was a sin, and that he was bad to have those feelings. He hadn't had anyone to teach him how to manage his emotions in a healthy way, or how to trust his own sense of right and wrong even over what others told him.
And here's this boy, who laughs at, disregards, disrespects LWJ's home and the wisdom he's been taught to look up to all his life. His clan's history and methods. And he's so beautiful, but it feels like this boy is laughing at him. And this boy is so charming, and every time he flirts or is friendly he must be making fun of LWJ because no one has ever teased him like this, or treated him in such a friendly way. Of course WWX doesn't actually want to be friends, or isn't really flirting. He has so many other friends, why would he want to be friends with LWJ? He just wants to get out of punishment, or be entertained. And he likes girls, so of course his flirting with LWJ is only to make fun.
And LWJ feels so vulnerable when WWX flirts, because he wants WWX to look at him and call him handsome, and maybe he's scared WWX sees that. So of course he's going to ignore him, avoid him. Of course he's going to respond with "Shameless!" and "Boring!" He thinks WWX is making fun of him. He thinks WWX is going to hurt him, if LWJ softens. And these emotions are so strong. What if they grow out of control, to the point his love becomes something that poisons, stifles, or hurts? That's a recipe for textbook anxious avoidant attachment style right there (I would know lol i am also this way).
And No wonder he reacted so strongly to the spring book prank. I think bro felt terrified/furious WWX had perceived, in some way, his own desires. And thought WWX was making fun of him. To me, this hits a lot more strongly in the cdrama, especially as the spring book cdrama!WWX used was of the cut-sleeve variety.
And when WWX knocks him over the wall, so sure LWJ will reveal that he's just like the rest of GusuLan, who just want to have rules to feel morally superior over others, enforcing them selectively but not applying them if it suits them (see: LQR) LWJ is determined to prove him wrong, and takes punishment along WWX for being outside the walls after curfew. And here's where WWX's (more negative) opinion of LWJ's character begins to change. He sees that LWJ is genuine in his desire to do good, to be morally righteous. And that makes LWJ stand out against so much of the rest of the cultivation world.
But LWJ still thinks WWX is teasing him maliciously, even when WWX announces that his opinion of LWJ has changed and he wants to be friends. LWJ is still heavily on guard, and again, WWX is approaching him when LWJ feels very vulnerable, given he's undressed in the cold spring, and WWX is also getting undressed in the cold spring. And then WWX says he'll introduce LWJ to girls. Again: he's vulnerable, feeling wrong, feeling made fun of, so he pulls away.
I don't think LWJ really starts to let down his guard until after WWX brings him the rabbits as a gift. Because WWX brought them, and even if he felt vulnerable and teased during that exchange, they were still a gift, proof that WWX had thought of him outside of just their exchanges during WWX's punishment. It is a much kinder feeling of being perceived than the spring book was.
And then WWX is kicked out of lectures, and LWJ doesn't see him again until indoctrination, but even though he was hoping-not-hoping with WWX gone the feelings would fade, instead he writes a love song because he can't get WWX out of his head. All his pulling away and guarding himself seems to be for naught. In the audio drama (the lotus seed pod extra) he even goes to a lotus pond to pick the seed pods with the stems attached because he missed WWX and was thinking about the things he'd shared about his home. He wanted to know about the things WWX liked, the things WWX experienced in his home, even if he wasn't brave enough to go to Lotus Pier directly. [EDIT: It was pointed out that this extra appeared first in the novel.]
And then there's the Discussion Conference, where WWX pulls off LWJ's forehead ribbon. I imagine this event caused LWJ to feel humiliated, ashamed, angry, (and even more horrifyingly to LWJ, pleased on some level that it was WWX) and exposed in front of the entire cultivation society. It might not "seem like a big deal" to a lot of fans because to us it's just a strip of fabric no matter how symbolic, but in this case it is very important that we imagine the gravity of this to understand where LWJ is coming from. For better understanding I would compare it to a lot of modern spiritual practices that use clothing in similar symbolic ways, and we would never want to disrespect someone by disrespecting that clothing, even if it is not a practice we personally follow. And WWX pulling the ribbon off in front of pretty much everyone (many of whom went to lectures at Cloud Recesses), including LWJ's own clan, who understand perfectly what it meant that WWX did that? Mortifying. And then his own clan reassures him that "it doesn't count" because WWX is a man, which must have been really invalidating to LWJ in its own way. So any progress on the friendship front/ideas of softening his guard on LWJ's part is gone. Toast.
And then his home has been burnt to the ground, his brother in hiding, and his leg broken. It's no surprise he's going to spurn WWX at indoctrination. He's grieving, stressed out more than he's ever been, in so much pain. LWJ probably feels really overwhelmed, overstimulated, and unsafe. He just cannot deal with All the Emotions About Wei Wuxian on top of that, and how would he even begin to tell WWX what had happened? He'd prefer to just avoid, avoid, avoid. (In the cdrama, I think he's also trying to distance himself so WWX won't draw the attention of WC.) And when WWX flirts with Mianmian, LWJ has had it up to here. He has no idea WWX is just trying to get medicine for him. And when WWX wants to carry him, the last thing LWJ probably wants is to be vulnerable with wwx in this very unsafe situation, where the Wens are constantly looking for weakness. So he brushes him off.
Then in the cave, LWJ is one of the first (along with JZX to resist the Wens and protect Mianmian. And then he stays behind with WWX and pushes him out of the way of the Xuanwu to get bitten instead. That speaks volumes about his character.
And then there's the whole debacle where LWJ is furious about the branding scar. I know he's of course jealous about the whole Mianmian thing, and WWX trying to lighten the mood/distract LWJ the way he distracts the Jiang siblings by going on about being a dashing hero protecting a maiden, but that just pisses LWJ off more, and I believe it's because LWJ is mad that WWX is treating the matter so lightly, because to him, love and devotion and self-sacrifically pushing people out of the way of danger is so powerful it feels like he's drowning, and WWX is over here like "haha she'll always remember me isn't that nice" and "it doesn't matter that i got hurt because it would have hurt her worse bc of beauty/reputation/the consequences of a woman losing her beauty" (which, kudos to WWX for understanding the ways women are affected by patriarchy, and beauty as a form of power/a tool for a future)
But LWJ is over here, viciously reminded he's not special and WWX would help and flirt with anyone and (seemingly) not think twice about it. Another thought process he could be having could be: but you got hurt. and that is unacceptable, and I hate that you're trying to say it like it is acceptable, bc it's like you don't care, and I care so much it feels like it could kill me. (I'm extrapolating a bit about this thought process here, but it seems plausible enough to me)
And then there's the whole thing where earlier WWX had made LWJ gay-panic hard enough to spit up blood, and then promptly reassured him he doesn't like guys. LWJ didn't need this on top of all the stress, and WWX just took off his headband to make a splint again, and so its presence isn't there to press him into restraint, and now the Mianmian thing, all the stress and adrenaline just come crashing down and bro just can't take it anymore and bites WWX bc maybe he he's mad that WWX has made the impact of a meteor strike in his life and it seems like WWX doesn't take more than a passing thought to those he impacts so deeply. So in all his deep and torrential emotions, bro is just like "I'll make you remember, even just a little bit, the way I remember you." I think in any other circumstance, LWJ wouldn't have lashed out in this way. It took so much for him to reach this point. Should he have bitten WWX? No. Do I understand why he did? Yeah.
And then LWJ tells WWX about Cloud Recesses and cries, for obvious reasons.
And so to call his behavior "abuse" towards WWX at any point in this timeline makes literally no sense at all (though unfortunately that was what the comment called it), and it tore me up to think about it. This is a very long post, and I have a lot to say about LWJ's actions during and post sunshot, but I'm tired so I'll just leave this here. Feel free to share your insights and what you love about LWJ's character. Also, if you have fic recs for favorite LWJ characterizations, please share! I'd love to read them.
TL;DR - Lwj's behavior and treatment of WWX pre-sunshot makes sense in context of his pov. He's flawed, but that's what makes him such a great character, and I love him for good reason.

Something about Vertin being the black sheep of the foundation is taking over my thoughts.
(I am terribly sorry if this is poorly written at the moment, brain is not functioning wellšŸ‘)
Black sheep in biblical terms are mostly represented as those that have gone astray or have denied the faith and teachings of God. It's used to represent rebelliousness as well, and I think most of those match up on how the Foundation sees Vertin. But, like in Christianity, a black sheep can be found and saved from what it is by God, and that's what Constantine and the Foundation tries to do. They try to "help" Vertin by putting her in Artificial Somnambulism to try and get her trust and faith back to the Foundation(It doesn't work, obviously) but yea.
Vertin has been in the herd of white when she was a student, she used to be just a white lamb as well, but as curiosity grows, she slowly becomes astray. Now she stands along with people in white, wearing a suit and coat with a darkish blue color, her hat with a neat ribbon attached. Vertin is a lamb of the foundation who has gone astray, but she chose this rather than to live as a part of herd whose lives are made to be sacrificed for half-truths and a deception of faith and lies.

Since writing my last post about how Vanitas understands "salvation" as the preservation of one's self, even at the price of death, I've been thinking about how that plays into Vanitas's thoughts on resurrection. It's only two short lines, but I find the view he expresses in this scene absolutely fascinating.
Vanitas tells Misha that the dead "don't come back," and the fact that he phrases it that way stands out to me. He doesn't say that resurrection is impossible on a physical level; he implicitly concedes that maybe Misha could "bring back" something that looks and acts like Luna. He doesn't quibble about the practicalities of reanimating someone whose body turned to ashes or bring up whatever concept of the afterlife he may have.
Instead, Vanitas says that a resurrected Luna would simply be "something else that looked like her." A resurrected Luna would lack some fundamental part of whatever it was that made Luna who they were in their first life.
But what would they lack? I don't think he's implying that a resurrected Luna would lack their soulā€”not really. Setting aside the absence of souls as a conceptual presence in VnC, I think that would be too concrete and specific for what Vanitas is gesturing toward. Rather, he's conceiving of the Self in a somewhat ineffable way. On a metaphysical level, a version of Luna brought back from the dead simply Wouldn't Be Her, and he can't put it in more concrete terms than that.
So why does he think this way?
I think the concept of resurrection is awful enough to Vanitas that he has to reject it outright for his own stability. He cannot even slightly entertain the notion that resurrection might be possible, because that would destroy one of his main coping mechanisms.
Resurrection is nightmarish to a man that relies on death as an escape. Vanitas is suicidal, but beyond his self-hatred, his relationship to death is very particular. He's someone whose body and being has been corrupted and violated several timesā€”through violence, through experiments, and through Luna's bite, and he's desperate to retain control of himself in the aftermath. He's desperate for control in regards to everything in his life, but especially his body and his death.
Vanitas is being slowly transformed into something inhuman, and he plans to die someday to escape that fate. The idea that after he's gone, someone could override that decision and force him back into living a life he doesn't want must be unacceptably horrific to him. He dismisses it out of hand because he has to.
Vanitas says a resurrected Luna would, on some level, not really be Luna. Whatever comes back might look like them, but it would lack some fundamental self that makes Luna "Luna." Thus, if Vanitas himself were ever "resurrected" after his death, it would be the same. Death remains an absolute escape for him, and even if someone contrives to bring back something that looks like him after he's gone, it won't be him. That life won't be his problem.
In addition to whatever beliefs Vanitas might have about death and afterlives the feasibility of resurrection, I think this is a key part of his relationship to the concept. He lives his life knowing that death waits for him as an escape valve. He needs that looming death as his salvation. Thus, faced with the concept of resurrection, his argument basically boils down to "nuh-uh." He shoots down the concept and declares that a resurrected person wouldn't be themselves in some nonspecific way, because the possibility of anything otherwise isn't something safe for him to consider.

Waiting for a Trojan War retelling about Patrochilles but itā€™s differentā€¦
ā€¦but honestly Iā€™m just putting down an AU at this point
Patroclus, kindest of the Acheans, feels sympathy for the captured Trojan women like in Silence of the Girls.
Patroclus, who acts as Achillesā€™ compassionate mentor (since heā€™s 1-2 years older), because King Peleus wants to balance his Achillesā€™ impulsive nature with Patroclusā€™ gentle patience
But! Patroclusā€™ heart is breaking because of Achillesā€™ period accurate misogyny. Achilles emulates the other men in their behaviors, causing their relationship to fracture in their heated arguments on treating women like property or people
Patroclus remembers their childhood and growing up together, and wonders where on earth is the boy that would do anything for him?
Whereā€™s the charming boy that would make him laugh?
The boy that he taught the importance of kindness and compassion to?
He looks deeper, and to his horror, itā€™s the small slivers of light that pop up in the dark war monster that Achilles has become.
The way he looks at him. The way he gently wipes the blood off of Patroclusā€™ armor. The way he holds his hand during an anxiety attack after returning from the battlefield. The way he stays for him.
How could this be the same man? he wonders. Wrathful and horrifying Achilles, both kind and gentle.
Patroclus pines for the good old days, Ć  la Song of Achilles, but he cannot ignore Achillesā€™ war crimes and treatment towards women.
Neither can Patroclus ignore the blood he has shed as a warrior and as Achillesā€™ second in command.
He doesnā€™t even realize his own actions- participating in keeping captured Trojan women (in his attempts to save them from other men)- still perpetuate a cruel systemic practice of enslaving women. Patroclus still remembers stopping Briseis from mourning her dead family.
He remembers the look on her face.
It tears him apart.
Patroclus just wants the past back. But war says otherwise, and shows him the worst sides of men and the worst of Achilles. And worst of allā€¦
It shows the worst in him.
Justā€¦ morally grey Patroclus, my beloved!
Can I see this in a retelling for once?!
