I got someone deeply off-putting in my notes yesterday, so just for the record: anyone who does not love and respect trans people is not welcome on this blog.
#obviously I blocked that person already and I'm not about to start like. doing DNIs#but I do not want fucking terfs in my notes#about Andie

I just fucking realized. Noe learned that Louis was abandoned by the De Sades in the teachers COLLECTION ROOM. Because they're both part of his collection, just like the skulls and bones in the jars. FUCK.
YEP
I really don't have anything to add here. You're just exactly on the money.

Jokes aside, there's something grossly and darkly ironic about seeing Ogier (a human) lusting after Domi (a vampire) one chapter/a few in-universe minutes after he displays such spectacular hatred of and violence toward Dhampirs.
I think there's a reason Mochijun chose to have a Chasseur hit on a vampire he's fighting for the first time at the top of this Dhampir-centric arc. Dhampirs are the children of humans and vampires, yet now we see how the very people who hate them are happy to indulge in interspecies lust when it suits them. It really distills how Ogier's actions are part of this larger cycle of sexual violence and discrimination; his declared attraction is just another weapon to inflict.
The topic of dhampirs' place in this society and the topic of sexual/gendered violence between humans and vampires feel. linked. even if not all or even most dhams result from violence.

This panel is sooo tasty
#the haunting striking-ness of it combined with the hatching and heavy black#makes it look just a bit like something out of an Ishida manga#vnc#vnc spoilers#vnc 64#liveblog#ID in alt text

This chapter's title is scaring me, I cannot lie.
The chapter titles are usually pretty on the nose in referencing/summing up the key event/events in their chapter. You don't have to reach that far to see what Mochijun's going for with the vast majority of them, y'know?
Mémoir 64 is called frapper à la porte—knock on the door. The illustration for the title page features Domi knocking on a door next to the text "knock knock: the signal to begin." There is nothing like literal knocking in this chapter, nor anything involving doors.
However, Domi does fire off a massive signal snowflake in a crowded area of Paris. Big enough for Noé to see it from a different part of the city and come running.
That snowflake is the knock on the door. That's the signal to begin. But who the hell else did Domi unintentionally signal when she did that?
#there's no way she's getting away with something that public without some scary unintended consequences#vanitas no carte#vnc#the case study of vanitas#vnc spoilers#vnc 64#English major hours

The last time Mochijun came back from a yearlong hiatus (mémoire 58), it started with a full color spread and a several-page-long sweeping intro monologue about one of the manga's core themes.
This comeback, after over a year, starts with half a page of fakeout tension so we can joke about Ogier thirsting after Domi.
#this is not a complaint to be clear. it's just really funny#vnc#vanitas no carte#the case study of vanitas#vnc spoilers#vnc 64#liveblog

why do you think Teacher’s preferred endgame in the season 2 finale was vanitas likely broken, noe dead, and dominique hypnotized? what do you think he wanted with vanitas?
I don't think that's what he wanted at all!
I'm keeping this brief in the spirit of speed round, but I don't think he necessarily wanted Misha to succeed at killing Noé that night. I think he just wanted to see what would happen :). "I almost intervened sooner, but you've shown me something very interesting." Etc.
#I'm quoting from memory so IDK if the wording is right#but he says smth to that effect#ask#anon#speed round

OOH FAV THEORY??
or a theory you believe is most likely to be true
I'm a Teacher is Paracelsus truther babeyyy
I'm also a big believer in the "characters named after famously dead people are doomed" train of thought. That goes for Roland, Olivier, Riche, and Jeanne at least. (And Vanitas, but that goes without saying)

Who are you betting Mochijun will kill first? And do you think that death will occur this arc?
Hmmmmm potentially Riche. I hope I'm wrong, but this arc feels like a good potential setup for a Riche death.
Otherwise, I'd guess there's good odds that a Chasseur will be the first to go
Oh also I forgot to say, but I do think we're due for a character death in general sometime this arc. To go with the whole "waking up from the dream" thing Teacher said to Noé at the amusement park, y'know?

who do you hate & who do you hate but still think is interesting / compelling ?
Gano is a very good hateable character. Man specifically engineered to make me look forward to watching him get his face stomped in.
Teacher is awful terrible horrible, but I find him fascinating. There's something wrong with that guy, and his dealings with children unsettle me deeply. And yet.

Hi! I love your analysis posts. I even reference them for my OC AU haha. Thoughts on the chasseurs?
Thank you!!! That's so flattering!
Keeping myself brief in the spirit of speed round:
Roland is a lot of fun and I like him, but I'm not the most deeply invested in him yet y'know? Needs some misery.
Olivier is in love with Roland. Requited or not TBD.
Mira is hot
Astolfo is interesting thematically/for analysis, but I struggle to care about him on a personal level bc he's so very edgy teen
Charles is the exact right type of evil for a catholic. 10/10
